[1. REGULAR MEETING CALL TO ORDER - 5:30 PM]

[00:00:04]

>> GOOD EVENING EVERYBODY AND WELCOME TO OUR OCTOBER 24TH REGULAR BOARD MEETING.

WE'RE GOING TO START THINGS OFF WITH THE PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE.

IF YOU PLEASE RISE, CONNIE HENNESSY WILL LEAD US.

>>

>> NEXT WE HAVE OUR LAND ACKNOWLEDGMENT BY A BOARD DIRECTOR, DOUG QUINN?

>> YES. I ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THE GEOGRAPHICAL REGION OF CAMAS IS LOCATED ON THE ANCESTRAL AND TERRITORIAL LANDS OF THE CHINOOK AND COLLATZ PEOPLE.

THAT THE CHINOOK ARE STILL FIGHTING TO BE FEDERALLY RECOGNIZED TRIBE ON THEIR OWN LAND.

>> THANK YOU. DOUG. ITEM 2A ON OUR AGENDA IS THE MILLTOWN PRIDE AWARD.

[2. MILL TOWN PRIDE AWARD(S)]

DR. ANZALONE, I'LL TURN IT OVER TO YOU.

>> GOOD EVENING, EVERYONE.

EVERYONE FOOLED ME WITH THAT WARM WEATHER HALFWAY THROUGH OCTOBER AND YOU GOT ME.

WELL, IT'S GREAT TO SEE EVERYONE OUT THERE.

WE HAVE ONE MILLTOWN PROUD AWARD TONIGHT.

SO EXCITED THAT BILL IS HERE AND SPEAKING ON HIS BEHALF IS JOHN NELSON. JOHN, COME ON UP.

>> I THANK YOU FOR THE OPPORTUNITY TO INTRODUCE MR. BILL SLACKER.

HE WAS NOMINATED FOR THE MILLTOWN AWARD.

IT'S MY HONOR TO TELL YOU A LITTLE BIT ABOUT BILL.

BILL HAS BEEN WITH THE DISTRICT FOR ALMOST 10 YEARS.

HE'S WORKED IN A VARIETY OF CAPACITIES WITHIN THE DISTRICT, CUSTODIAL SECURITY, THESE ARE PARKING TEAM MEMBER FOR THE DARK HARVESTS EVENTS.

IN MOST RECENTLY HE JOINED US THAT AND THE OPERATIONS TEAM AS MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN.

HIS SKILL SET IS VERY DIVERSIFIED.

MECHANICAL, ELECTRICAL, PLUMBING, FACILITIES, LOCK SMITH.

HE BRINGS A TRADE CAPACITY THAT'S UNBELIEVABLE FOR THE TEAM.

BUT OF ALL THAT, HIS MAIN GOAL IN GETTING THINGS DONE IS TO CREATE AN ENVIRONMENT FOR THE STUDENTS AND THE STAFF THAT IS TOP-NOTCH QUALITY.

DELIVERS THE MOST LEARNING ENVIRONMENTAL EXPERIENCE FOR THE STUDENTS, OUR STUDENTS.

HE DOES THAT WITH A COLLABORATING EFFORT.

HE SEES A TEST THAT NEEDS TO BE DONE.

HE RALLIES TEAM MEMBERS, WHETHER IT'S STUDENTS OR FACULTY STAFF OR ADMINISTRATIVE STAFF, TO ACCOMPLISH THE TASK THAT NEEDS TO GET DONE.

HE NEVER HESITATES TO MENTOR TO SOMEBODY.

HE'S ALWAYS DOING IT WITH A SMILE ON HIS FACE.

HE'S JUST A PLEASURE TO WORK WITH.

WHEN I TALKED TO PEOPLE OUT IN THE FIELD, EVERYBODY SAYS, BILL IS THE PLAYER THAT YOU WANT ON YOUR TEAM, IS COWORKERS.

I'M GLAD TO HAVE BILL'S WORKER ON THE CST OPERATION STAFF, BECAUSE WITHOUT HIM, OUR CHALLENGE OF GETTING TO THE SUPER BOWL WOULD BE A LITTLE BIT HARDER [LAUGHTER] BILL WOULD YOU COME UP? [APPLAUSE]

>> I WANT TO THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE AND YOUR QUALITY AND YOUR FORESIGHT OF SEEING WHAT'S MOST IMPORTANT AND THAT IS MAKING THE ENVIRONMENT THE BEST THAT IT CAN BE FOR OUR STUDENTS IN THE DISTRICT.

YOU CERTAINLY CONTRIBUTE TO MAKING THAT HAPPEN.

THANK YOU [APPLAUSE]

>> THANK YOU BILL, VERY MUCH.

[00:05:01]

>> AWESOME JOB.

>> KEEPING OUR STRING OF POSITIVITY GOING RIGHT NOW WE

[3. GRAD ALLIANCE GRADUATION]

HAVE A GRADUATION THAT WE'RE GOING TO TAKE CARE OF RIGHT NOW, OUR GRAD ALLIANCE FOR JAYDEN DAVIS.

KELLY, ARE YOU READY FOR US? GREAT. OKAY.

>> THERE WE GO, HAD A CHANCE TO MEET JAYDEN.

I HAVE BEEN SEARCHING FOR SOMETHING TO SAY AT THIS GRADUATION BECAUSE THIS IS ALL ABOUT YOU.

NORMALLY AT A GRADUATION YOU'RE SURROUNDED BY HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE.

THIS IS ALL ABOUT YOU. WE'RE VERY EXCITED.

I CHOSE A WHIMSICAL FORM AND I HOPE THAT'S OKAY WITH YOU.

IT'S BY BERTON BRALEY, WHO WAS AN AMERICAN POET.

HE WAS BORN IN 1882 AND DIED IN 1966.

IT'S CALLED 1,000 TO ONE.

THERE'S 1,000 CAN'T BE DONE-ERS FOR THE ONE WHO SAYS IT CAN.

BUT THE WHOLE AMOUNT OF DEEDS THAT COUNT IS DONE BY THE LATTER CLAN.

BUT THAT CAN'T BE DONE-ERS GRUMBLE AND HAMPER OPPOSE AND DOUBT.

WHILE THE DARING MAN WHO SAYS, IT CAN PROCEEDS TO WORK IT OUT. THANK YOU.

THERE ISN'T A NEW INVENTION BENEATH THE SHINING SUN THAT WAS EVER WROUGHT BY THE DEED OR THOUGHT OF THE TRIBE.

CAN'T-BE-DONE-ERS MUTTER.

WHILE THE CAN-BE'S COOL, SUBLIME, MAKE THEIR NOTIONS WORK UNTIL THE OTHER SMIRK, WE KNEW IT ALL THE TIME.

THE CAN-BE CLAN IS MEAGER.

ITS MEMBERSHIP IS SMALL.

IT'S MIGHTY FEW WHO SEE THEIR DREAMS COME TRUE.

OR HEAR FAMOUS TRUMPET CALL, THAT IT'S BETTER TO BE A CAN-BE, AND LABOR, AND DREAM, AND DIE THAN ONE WHO RUNS WITH IT CAN'T -BE-DONE'S.

WHO HAVEN'T THE COURAGE TO TRY CONGRATULATION [APPLAUSE]

>> JAYDEN, I WILL TELL YOU THAT I'VE BEEN A PRINCIPAL FOR MANY YEARS.

I WOULD SAY SINGLE-HANDEDLY, THE MOST IMPACTABLE GRADUATIONS, DIPLOMA CEREMONIES ARE IN SITUATIONS SUCH AS YOURS.

YOUNG MEN AND WOMEN WHO TRY VERY HARD, THEY WORK HARD, THEY GIVE A LOT TO THEIR SCHOOL COMMUNITY, AND THEY PERSEVERE.

JAYDEN, I DID NOT GET TO KNOW, THOUGH I'M UNFORTUNATE IN THAT PERSPECTIVE, BUT I WILL TELL YOU THAT HE LEFT AN IMPACT INQUIRE.

HE SPENT FOUR YEARS, INQUIRE AND I BELIEVE MIDDLE-SCHOOL AS WELL.

MIDDLE-SCHOOL? MAYBE? I HAVE WATCHED MANY YOUNG MEN AND WOMEN GET THEIR DIPLOMAS AND GO ON AND DO FANTASTIC THINGS, WHATEVER THE PATH LEADS FOR YOU.

BUT I WILL TELL YOU THE ONE COMMON DENOMINATOR IS JUST THE IMMENSE AMOUNT OF THE PRIDE THAT YOU GIVE TO A COMMUNITY.

CONGRATULATIONS ON THIS ENDEAVOR.

I DON'T KNOW, DID YOU WANT TO. THANK YOU.

WE HAVE A SCRIPT, JAYDEN, JUST SO YOU KNOW [LAUGHTER] THEN THE SCRIPT LET ME HAND THIS ONTO OUR SCHOOL BOARD PRESIDENT, THANK YOU.

>> THANKS, KELLY.

>> ON BEHALF OF THE CAMAS SCHOOL BOARD, I ACCEPT THAT JAYDEN DAVIS HAS FULFILLED ALL THE REQUIREMENTS NECESSARY FOR A DIPLOMA FROM THE CAMAS SCHOOL DISTRICT.

>> JAYDEN DAVIS.

YOU HAVE FULFILLED ALL GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS OF THE CAMAS SCHOOL DISTRICT IN THE STATE OF WASHINGTON.

I WOULD LIKE TO PRESENT THIS WONDERFUL GRADUATE TO YOU, THE BOARD ON BEHALF OF THE CAMAS SCHOOL DISTRICT, THE SCHOOL BOARD AND THE COMMUNITY.

[00:10:02]

CONGRATULATIONS. COME ON UP [APPLAUSE] [BACKGROUND] [APPLAUSE]

>> THAT'S WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT RIGHT THERE.

>> YEAH.

>> CONGRATULATIONS AGAIN, JAYDEN.

>> HOLD ON TO THAT.

>> YES. [LAUGHTER] THANK YOU. NEXT ON OUR AGENDA, WE'RE GOING TO KEEP GOING AFTER THAT, I LOVE IT.

NEXT ON OUR AGENDA ITEM 4,

[4. STUDENT REPORTS]

WE HAVE STUDENT REPORTS.

WE HAVE A COUPLE OF STUDENT REPORTS TONIGHT.

OUR FIRST ONE IS GOING TO BE FROM OUR CAMAS HIGH SCHOOL, ASB PRESIDENT SUSIE GILLESPIE AND SECRETARY CODY CANDAREEN.

>> HI, MY NAME IS SUSANNA.

I'M ASB PRESIDENT AT CAMAS HIGH SCHOOL.

I'LL START OFF WITH THE PAST EVENTS THAT WE'VE DONE.

FIRST, WE DID SOME SENIOR PARKING SPOTS WHERE YOU CAN COME TO THE SCHOOL AND PICK ANY SPOT AND DRAW WITH CHALK, YOUR NAME AND LIKE THE TREND OF PEOPLE WHO WILL PAINT THOSE SPOTS, BUT OBVIOUSLY, WE CAN'T DO THAT.

WE WERE LIKE, WHY DON'T WE JUST DO CHALK BECAUSE THERE'S NO HARM IN THAT.

THEN AFTER THAT WE DID SENIOR SUNRISE ON THE THURSDAY OF THE FIRST WEEK OF SCHOOL, AND THAT WAS REALLY FUN.

WE WENT TO THE WASH YOU GO WATERFRONT, I THINK.

THEN WE HAD THE FIRST WEEK OF SCHOOL ASSEMBLY AND IT WAS THE FIRST SCHOOL-WIDE ASSEMBLY THAT WE'VE HAD IN A LONG TIME.

THAT WENT REALLY WELL.

WE INTRODUCED THE NEW PRINCIPAL AND WE HAD A BUNCH OF GAMES WHERE WE HAD PEOPLE PARTICIPATE.

THEN I THINK IT WAS THE NEXT WEEK WE HAD A MOVIE NIGHT OR SOMETIME IN SEPTEMBER, I CAN'T REMEMBER AND WE WATCHED MONSTERS UNIVERSITY.

WE HAD ABOUT 250 PEOPLE SHOW UP ON A FRIDAY, WHICH WAS REALLY GREAT.

NOW I'LL GO ON TO THE CURRENT EVENTS THAT ARE GOING ON.

WE'RE CURRENTLY DEALING WITH HOMECOMING, WHICH IS THIS SATURDAY, AND THIS PAST SATURDAY, WE HAD THE ASB KIDS DECORATE THE HALLWAYS, THE LOCKER BASE, AND WE HAD THEM DO A HARRY POTTER THEME, SO LIKE GRINGOTTS, HUFFLEPUFF, SLYTHERIN, AND RAVENCLAW.

WE ARE NOW DOING SPIRIT DAYS, WHICH IS WHY I'M WEARING PAJAMAS RIGHT NOW.

I WOULDN'T NORMALLY WEAR THIS.

I'LL LET CODY GO OVER THE OTHER SPIRIT DAYS.

>> I'M CODY, I'M THE ASB SECRETARY.

FOR OUR HOMECOMING THIS SATURDAY, THE THEME IS GOLDEN GALA.

WE'RE GOING TO, ON SATURDAY DECORATE THE WHOLE OR THE MAIN COMMENTS IN GOLD.

THEN FOR THIS FRIDAY'S FOOTBALL GAME, IT'S A PINK THEME FOR BREAST CANCER AWARENESS.

THEN WE'RE PLANNING AN ASSEMBLY OR WE HAVE BEEN FOR THE PAST TWO WEEKS FOR THIS FRIDAY FOR THE GAME.

THEN IN THE FUTURE, WE'RE GOING TO DO ANOTHER MOVIE NIGHT.

THEN WE'RE ALSO MAKING A TIKTOK ACCOUNT TO INCORPORATE OTHER STUDENTS AND MAKE FUNNY VIDEOS.

THEN WE'RE ALSO GOING TO HAVE A WINTER DANCE IN THE FUTURE.

THANK YOU.

>> THANK YOU. [APPLAUSE] WE HAVE ONE ADDITIONAL STUDENT REPORT ON BEHALF OF LIBERTY MIDDLE SCHOOL.

WE HAVE JAYDEN COMING UP.

[APPLAUSE]

>> I'M A LITTLE SHORT FOR THIS THING.

I'M COMING TO YOU FROM LIBERTY AND I'M GOING TO TELL YOU A LITTLE BIT ABOUT WHAT WE'VE BEEN DOING FOR THE PAST COUPLE OF WEEKS.

LAST WEEK, WE WANTED TO INCORPORATE OUR THEME FOR THIS YEAR, WHICH IS BE THE DIFFERENCE.

WE HAD A UNITY WEEK WHERE WE INCLUDED

[00:15:01]

THE ENTIRE SCHOOL IN SOME FUN ACTIVITIES AND SPIRIT DAYS.

ON MONDAY, OUR THEME WAS WE ARE ALL A PART OF THE PRIDE.

WE HAD EVERYONE GET BRACELETS.

THEY ALL HAVE LIBERTY MIDDLE SCHOOL ON THEM AND OUR THEME, WHICH IS BE THE DIFFERENCE.

EVERYONE GOT MATCHING BRACELETS AND WE MADE SURE TO GIVE EVERYONE SOME BRACELETS SO THAT EVERYONE FELT INCLUDED.

ON TUESDAY OUR THEME WAS BE COMFORTABLE IN YOUR OWN SKIN.

KIDS WERE ASKED TO WEAR CLOTHES THEY WERE COMFORTABLE IN.

WE MADE SURE THAT IT WAS ALL-INCLUSIVE SO THAT IF PEOPLE DIDN'T WANT TO WEAR THEIR PAJAMAS TO SCHOOL, THEY WERE FREE TO WEAR SWEATPANTS OR THEIR REGULAR CLOTHES, ANYTHING THEY WERE COMFORTABLE IN.

WE ALSO HAD HOT COCOA IN THE COMMONS BEFORE SCHOOL.

OUR JAZZ BAND PERFORMED FOR US.

ON WEDNESDAY, WE CHOOSE TO INCLUDE AT LIBERTY AND STUDENTS WORE DIFFERENT CLOTHES THAT WERE MIXED IN THROUGHOUT THE TEAMS. WE CREATED TEAMS THAT HAVE ALL THREE GRADE LEVELS INCLUDED IN THEM SO THAT WE CAN MIX IT UP AND NOT JUST HAVE IT BASED ON GRADE LEVEL.

ON THURSDAY IT WAS TURNING YOUR BACK ON BULLYING SO KIDS COULD EITHER WEAR THEIR CLOTHES BACKWARD OR WEAR ORANGE.

WE HAD A LOT OF PEOPLE WEARING ORANGE.

DURING LUNCH THAT DAY, WE HAD PAPER STRIPS AND SO WE MADE A PAPER CHAIN WITH OUR WHOLE SCHOOL'S NAMES ON THEM.

WE HANG THAT UP IN THE CAFETERIA AND NOW EVERY DAY THEY CAN SEE THEIR NAME HANGING UP ON THE WALL.

THEN ON OUR LAST DAY WAS FRIDAY AND WE DID BE THE POP IN YOUR COMMUNITY.

EVERYONE WEAR THEIR FAVORITE COLOR AND WE GAVE AWAY POPCORN AT LUNCH AND PLAYED SOME MUSIC.

WE'VE BEEN WORKING ON INCLUDING MORE PEOPLE.

WE ACTUALLY HAD 67.43 PERCENT OF OUR SCHOOL PARTICIPATE, WHICH IS A LOT COMPARED TO OTHER STATISTICS.

OUR VOLLEYBALL SEASON HAS BEGUN AND WE HAVE ABOUT 60 STUDENTS TRYING OUT.

BOYS SOCCER HAS ALSO BEGUN.

WE HAD A COUPLE OF PRACTICES THAT WERE CANCELED DURING THE AIR QUALITY, BUT WE DID MOVE SOME OF THEM INSIDE SO THEY COULD STILL PRACTICE.

RIGHT NOW WE'RE HONORING DISABILITY AWARENESS MONTH AND ON OUR ROARING NEWS CHANNEL EVERY MORNING KIDS CAN LEARN ABOUT A DIFFERENT INFLUENTIAL MEMBER IN OUR COMMUNITY WHO HAS A DISABILITY OR A UNIQUE ABILITY.

KIDS ARE LEARNING SOME NEW THINGS.

WE'RE ALSO RUNNING A SOCKTOBER FUNDRAISER RIGHT NOW, WHICH IS RAISING WARM WINTER CLOTHES AND SOCKS, AND UNDERWEAR FOR OUR COMMUNITY AND THE PEOPLE THAT ARE LESS FORTUNATE AND SO FAR WE'VE RAISED AROUND 171 ITEMS OF CLOTHING.

THEY'RE HIGHLY REQUESTED.

IT ENDS NEXT MONDAY.

THEN WE'RE ALSO DOING THE POPCORN FUNDRAISER WITH RIP CITY POPCORN.

STUDENTS WILL GO AROUND AND THEY'LL GIVE OUT POPCORN.

WE'LL SEND ORDERS IN AND THEN EVENTUALLY WE'LL GET THOSE POPCORN ORDERS IN AND WE CAN GIVE THEM OUT TO MEMBERS OF OUR COMMUNITY THAT HAVE PURCHASED THEM.

THAT'S ALL.

>> FANTASTIC. [APPLAUSE] JAY I'M SORRY, ARE YOU AN ASB OFFICER.

NO, JUST A STUDENT. I JUST WANT TO MAKE SURE I DIDN'T MISS A TITLE THERE.

>> [BACKGROUND].

>> GREAT. WELL, YOU DID WONDERFUL.

THANK YOU FOR THAT REPORT.

I ALWAYS LOVE HEARING FROM LIBERTY MIDDLE SCHOOL. GO LIONS.

>> I ADD TWO CENTS REALLY QUICK.

WILL YOU SHARE WITH YOUR TEAM, I AM SO IMPRESSED AT YOUR CREATIVITY THAT YOU ALL COME UP WITH AND JUST THE INCLUSIVITY THAT YOU PROVIDE STUDENTS AT YOUR SCHOOL.

I'M JUST THE NAMES AND THE DAYS THAT YOU HAD.

WOW, I WISH I WAS A LIBERTY LION.

THAT'S AWESOME.

IT'S REALLY AWESOME.

BRAVO TO ALL OF YOU. THANK YOU. KEEP IT UP.

>> ABSOLUTELY. ITEM NUMBER 5 ON

[5. BOARD COMMUNICATION]

OUR AGENDA IS BOARD COMMUNICATIONS SO OPEN IT UP FOR ANYBODY THAT HAS ANYTHING THEY WANT TO REPORT BACK ON OR SHARE.

>> I WILL JUST SHARE THAT THE JBB UNION 21-12 [LAUGHTER] I CAME IN AT THE LAST MINUTE SO THAT'S MY UPDATE.

>> AWESOME.

[00:20:01]

>> DOUG AND I WE'RE GOING TO BE ABLE TO GIVE AN UPDATE ON THE CITY SCHOOLS COMMITTEE, BUT THE MEETING, BUT IT GOT CANCELED TODAY SO STAY TUNED.

>> I JUST WANT TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE REALLY DIFFICULT WEEK THAT OUR COMMUNITY HAD LAST WEEK AND JUST APPRECIATION FOR THE STAFF THAT CHECKED ON FAMILIES AND WORKED WITH OUR CITY OFFICIALS TO BE ABLE TO HAVE A PLACE FOR OUR FAMILIES TO GO TO AND TO MONITOR THE HEALTH OF THE INSIDES OF OUR SCHOOLS AND OUR STUDENTS, KNOWING THAT WE HAD TO CANCEL OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES.

BUT I'M THANKFUL SO MUCH FOR HOW THIS TERMINOLOGY HAS BEEN USED, THERE'S NO OTHER WORDING BUT TO RALLY AROUND EACH OTHER AND WORK TOGETHER.

GOSH, AREN'T WE JUST THE BEST WHEN WE ALL WORK TOGETHER? I'M SO THANKFUL FOR OUR CITY OFFICIALS AND FOR OUR DISTRICT OFFICIALS WORKING TOGETHER.

JUST WANTED TO SAY THAT REALLY HARD WEEK AND HOPE I HAVEN'T HEARD OF ANY CATASTROPHE TO ANY OF OUR FAMILIES HOMES, SO I HOPE THAT, THAT IS TRUE AND I HOPE THAT ALL OF OUR FAMILIES ARE WELL.

>> WELL SAID. I CAN'T ADD ANYTHING ELSE TO THAT.

ERICA AND I DID GET A CHANCE TO ATTEND OUR FIRST BUDGET COMMITTEE MEETING THAT WE HAD LAST THURSDAY WITH JASON AND DR. ANZALONE A LOT OF NEW FACES ON THE BUDGET COMMITTEE, AND IT WAS A GREAT TURNOUT, PROBABLY ONE OF THE BEST TURNOUTS I'VE SEEN FOR BUDGET COMMITTEE IN A LONG TIME, SO IT WAS A GREAT GROUP, DID OUR INTRODUCTION TO BUDGETING AND SCHOOL FINANCE AND WE'RE GOING TO DO A COUPLE OF EMAIL UPDATES IN THE NEXT COUPLE OF MONTHS AND THEN I THINK RECONVENE IN JANUARY WE'LL RECONVENE IN-PERSON AND LOOK AT SOME UPDATES FROM THE LEGISLATURE AND WHATNOT SO IT'S GOING TO BE AN IMPORTANT BUDGET COMMITTEE YEAR BUT IT'S A GREAT TEAM.

REALLY HAPPY DR. ANZALONE THAT YOU'RE KEEPING THAT COMMITTEE GOING BECAUSE I THINK IT'S BEEN VERY VALUABLE FOR US.

ALSO I THINK YOU'RE GOING TO TOUCH ON IT IN YOUR PRESENTATION, BUT THANKS TO OUR DISTRICT STAFF AND EVERYBODY WHO ATTENDED THE GARVER THEATER REOPENING LAST WEEK.

IT WAS VERY WELL ATTENDED.

IT WAS REALLY EXCITING TO SEE EVERYBODY WALKING AROUND.

I SAW QUITE A FEW PEOPLE.

I WENT TO HIGH SCHOOL WITH WALKING AROUND THE OLD CAMAS HIGH SCHOOL AND IT WAS EXCITING TO SEE NEW LIFE IN THAT BUILDING AND ESPECIALLY BEING THE LAST PROJECT IN OUR 2016 BOND, IT WAS REALLY NICE TO BUTTON THAT ALL UP, BUT LOTS OF NEW AND STATE-OF-THE-ART STUFF RIGHT ALONG, A LOT OF HISTORY IN THERE AND SO I'M REALLY EXCITING AND SO ALL THE DISTRICT STAFF IN ADORING YOU HAD A LOT TO DO WITH THAT CEREMONY AS WELL, SO THANKS FOR PULLING THAT TOGETHER AND EVERYBODY FOR COMING OUT.

NOW ON WITH THE SHOW, CAN'T WAIT TO START SEEING SOME STUFF IN THERE. ANYTHING ELSE? NEXT ON OUR AGENDA IS ITEM 6,

[6. PUBLIC COMMENTS]

PUBLIC COMMENTS [NOISE] THE BOARD VALUES PUBLIC INPUT.

THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE BOARD IS TO ACTIVELY LISTEN AND REFLECT ON THE PUBLIC COMMENTS.

THE BOARD MAY ONLY DISCUSS AND ACT UPON ITEMS INCLUDED ON THE WRITTEN AGENDA.

THE BELL WILL RING AT THREE MINUTES TO REMIND YOU THAT YOUR TIME IS UP.

WE DID HAVE A SIGN-IN SHEET GOING AND IT LOOKS LIKE WE HAVE TWO NAMES FOR PUBLIC COMMENT.

I APOLOGIZE IF I MISSTATE NAMES OR MISREAD.

FIRST ONE UP HERE IS SUMMER LIVERMORE.

>> GOOD EVENING BOARD AND SUPERINTENDENT AND FELLOW COMMUNITY MEMBERS.

MY NAME IS SUMMER LIVERMORE.

THIS IS NORMA DAM, [LAUGHTER] KELLY LONGJAE AND STACEY ADAMS MOHAMMEDI.

WE ARE HERE TO ANNOUNCE THE FORMATION OF A CHEMIST SCHOOL DISTRICT, SPECIAL EDUCATION PARENT TEACHER AND STUDENT ASSOCIATION.

IN THAT SAME BREATH, WE ASKED FOR THE BOARD'S SUPPORT AS WE ESTABLISH AND GROW A PTSA ORGANIZATION THAT COLLABORATES, CELEBRATES, ENCOURAGES, AND SUPPORTS EACH AND EVERY STUDENT, NAVIGATING UNIQUE AND SPECIAL NEEDS IN THE CAMAS SCHOOL DISTRICT.

WE ARE INTENTIONAL ABOUT ALIGNING OURSELVES WITH THE DISTRICT

[00:25:01]

IN THEIR DRIVE FOR EVERY STUDENT TO BE SEEN AND SERVED.

WE ARE EAGER TO BEGIN THIS JOURNEY TO FIND WAYS TO SUPPORT INCLUSION AND AID AND ACCESS TO AN EXCEPTIONAL EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCE.

WE WILL STRIVE TO EQUALIZE OPPORTUNITIES FOR ALL STUDENTS, BE CHEERLEADERS FOR OUR PHENOMENAL SPECIAL EDUCATION STAFF, AND DEVELOP RESOURCES AND INFORMATION FOR PARENTS THAT WILL ULTIMATELY CONNECT THEM TO A BIGGER COMMUNITY.

THANK YOU FOR THIS OPPORTUNITY AND YOUR TIME.

>> THANK YOU SUMMER. OUR NEXT PUBLIC COMMENT IS FROM AUSTIN REIGNS.

>> HI, MY NAME IS AUSTIN REIGNS.

I'M THE 8TH GRADE SCIENCE TEACHER OVER ODYSSEY MIDDLE SCHOOL.

I HAD BEEN PLANNING A TRIP TO THE OREGON ZOO FOR MY STUDENTS ON THE 14TH OF NOVEMBER.

IT'S A MONDAY AND BY MISTAKE, I HAD SUBMITTED A REQUEST TO THE BOARD TOO LATE, EARLY LAST WEEK AND IT WAS DENIED.

I WAS COMING HERE TO REQUEST FOR YOU TO CONSIDER A TRAVEL REQUEST TO GO TO THE OREGON ZOO ON THE 14TH AND I DIDN'T WANT MY STUDENTS TO MISS OUT ON THE OPPORTUNITY TO GO SO THAT'S IT.

>> THANK YOU. SINCE THAT IS ON THE AGENDA, I'LL GO AHEAD AND COMMENT ON THAT.

THAT HAS BEEN ADDED TO THE AGENDA SO WE WILL BE VOTING ON THAT AS PART OF THE CONSENT AGENDA.

CHANGE MY PAPERS HERE. THAT BRINGS US TO THE END OF PUBLIC COMMENTS OUR NEXT ITEM,

[7. ITEMS ADDED TO THE AGENDA]

ITEM 7 ARE OUR ITEMS THAT HAVE BEEN ADDED TO THE AGENDA BOARD MEMBERS, YOU'LL SEE THAT WE HAVE TWO ITEMS ADDED TO THE CONSENT AGENDA, ONE OF THOSE BEING THE TRIP TO THE ZOO FOR ODYSSEY.

YOU'LL ALSO SEE THAT WE ARE CANCELING THE EXECUTIVE SESSION TONIGHT.

THERE'S NO NEED FOR IT TONIGHT, SO WE WILL BE ADJOURNING AT THE END OF OUR REGULAR SESSION HERE.

[8. CONSENT AGENDA]

WITH THAT, I WOULD ENTERTAIN A MOTION AND A SECOND FOR THE CONSENT AGENDA.

>> A MOTION TO APPROVE THE CONSENT AGENDA.

>> I SECOND THAT.

>> IT'S MOVED BY ERICA, SECONDED BY CONNIE.

ANY FURTHER DISCUSSION? ALL THOSE IN FAVOR?

>> [OVERLAPPING] AYE.

>> ANY OPPOSED? IT'S UNANIMOUS MOTION CARRIES.

NOW YOU'RE READY FOR THE ZOO [LAUGHTER] THANK YOU FOR COMING. I APPRECIATE IT.

NEXT ITEM ON OUR AGENDA,

[9. REPORTS]

WE HAVE A COUPLE OF REPORTS.

OUR FIRST REPORT IS OUR MONTHLY SUPERINTENDENT'S REPORT FROM DR. ANZALONE.

>> THANKS, COREY AND THANK YOU ALL.

JUST AGAIN, CONGRATULATIONS TO BILL.

I KNOW HE LEFT, BUT TREMENDOUS WHEN WE CAN HEAR SUCH AMAZING THINGS ABOUT OUR STAFF.

WE HAD OUR INAUGURAL EMPLOYEE ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEETING, WHICH WENT REALLY WELL.

WE WERE REPRESENTED BY SEVERAL OF OUR EMPLOYEES, VERY DIVERSE GROUP, CLASSIFIED AND CERTIFIED, AND JUST HAD A REALLY GOOD CONVERSATION ABOUT SOME THINGS THAT ARE HAPPENING IN THEIR VARIOUS NECKS OF THE WOODS.

WE DON'T ALWAYS GET TO HEAR THAT.

A FEW CELEBRATIONS WHICH WAS GREAT TO HEAR, AND THEN, OF COURSE, SOME CHALLENGES THAT THEY'RE FACING.

THIS GROUP WILL MEET QUARTERLY, SO THIS WAS ONE OF FOUR MEETINGS.

ULTIMATELY, IT'S NOT A COMPLAINT SESSION OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT.

IT REALLY IS, HEY, HOW COULD WE MAKE THE SYSTEMS IN WHICH YOU FUNCTION UNDER A LITTLE BIT TIGHTER AND A LITTLE BIT BETTER? YOU CAN SEE SOME NOTES HERE.

SOME OF THE CELEBRATIONS THAT REALLY STOOD OUT ARE THAT OPERATIONS IS REALLY SUCCESSFUL.

THERE'S JUST A LOT OF GOOD HARDWORKING PEOPLE IN THIS DISTRICT, AS YOU KNOW, AND IT CAME THROUGH LOUDLY AND CLEARLY DURING THIS FIRST MEETING.

THE BUS DRIVERS ARE CONSTANTLY COMPLEMENTED IN THE WORK THAT THEY DO EACH AND EVERY DAY AND THEIR COMMITMENT.

OUR EMPLOYEES APPRECIATE OUR COUNSELORS AND THE FACT THAT OUR COUNSELORS REALLY SEEM TO KNOW OUR KIDS AND KNOW THEIR STORIES, WHICH IS HUGE IN ORDER TO WORK AND GUIDE THEM.

A LOT OF GOOD COMPLIMENTS ABOUT OUR COUNSELORS.

THEN COMPLIMENTS ABOUT COLLEGE AND THE HIGH SCHOOL, WHICH AS YOU KNOW, AS A BOARD, WE'RE WORKING ON, AS A STATE, WE ARE WORKING TO IMPROVE.

SOME STAFF MEMBERS WHO HAVE CHILDREN IN THE DISTRICT STATED THAT THERE'S JUST SO MANY GOOD THINGS THAT HAPPEN WHEN THE KIDS COULD STAY IN THEIR SCHOOL BUT ALSO GET SOME OF THAT COLLEGE EXPERIENCE AT THE SAME TIME.

A FEW CHALLENGES THAT WE'RE WORKING ON.

I'M SURE THEY'RE NOT GONNA BE TOO MUCH OF A SURPRISE TO YOU.

[00:30:01]

OF COURSE, WE LOVE OUR PARENTS AND WE WANT MORE.

SO WE'LL BE WORKING ON THAT WITH THIS NEXT LEGISLATIVE SESSION.

OUR BUS DRIVERS, AGAIN, WE LOVE THEM AND WE WANT MORE.

I THINK COMPLIMENTS TO THE TRANSPORTATION TEAM HERE BECAUSE THEY GO ABOUT THEIR BUSINESS AND FILL THOSE VOIDS SOMETIMES WITHOUT US EVEN MISSING A BEAT, WHICH IS INCREDIBLE.

OUR CLASSIFIED STAFF, THIS IS A GREAT CONVERSATION AROUND TRAININGS.

THEY REALLY APPRECIATE HOW MUCH TRAINING WE OFFER TO, NOT JUST OUR CERTIFICATED STAFF, BUT ALSO CLASSIFIED. THEY LIKE TO HAVE MORE.

THEY WANT TO LEARN AND GROW WITHIN THEIR OWN JOBS.

THEN, OF COURSE, SUBSTITUTE TEACHERS WHICH NATIONWIDE ISSUE THAT WE'RE NOT ALONE ON THAT.

AGAIN, THESE ARE STAFFING CONCERNS.

WE ALWAYS NEED MORE PEOPLE AND EVEN THOUGH WE HAVE GREAT PEOPLE, SOMETIMES THEY'RE STRETCHED PRETTY THINLY.

WE'RE GOING TO WORK ON THESE THINGS AND EACH QUARTER I'LL COME BACK AND REPORT OUT AND LET YOU KNOW THAT MOST OF THE TIME WE CAN PREDICT THESE THINGS, BUT IT'S ALSO GOOD TO HEAR RIGHT FROM THE STAFF ON SOME OF THOSE THINGS ARE HAPPENING.

STUDENT ADVISORY COMMITTEE WAS SCHEDULED FOR THE 19TH, BUT AS ERICA SAID, WE HAD A ROUGH WEEK AND SO THE STUDENTS WEREN'T ABLE TO MEET.

BUT WE'RE EXCITED TO GET THAT BACK GOING.

WE'LL HEAR FROM KATIE TONIGHT TOO WHO'S GOING TO DO SOME REALLY GREAT WORK WITH THAT AMAZING COMMITTEE AS WELL.

THE BUDGET COMMITTEE, AS COREY SAID, WAS THURSDAY, THE 20TH.

REALLY GOOD MEETING. IT WAS MY FIRST, BUT I DIDN'T KNOW WHAT TO EXPECT.

I DID WANT TO THANK JASON FOR YOUR LEADERSHIP, MATT AS WELL, AND COREY AND ERICA.

THANK YOU FOR BEING THERE.

AGAIN, VERY DIVERSE GROUP.

FULL ROOM IN THIS ROOM HERE WITH SOME GREAT IDEAS, SMART PEOPLE.

I WAS IN AWE SOME OF THE QUESTIONS THAT I HEARD AND I THINK WE'RE GOING TO DO SOME GOOD WORK.

WHAT I LOVE ABOUT THAT COMMITTEE, IT WAS A REALLY VISIONARY THING TO DO TO MAKE SURE THAT THE COMMUNITY UNDERSTANDS THE BUDGET, BUT ALSO WE'RE VERY OPEN AND TRANSPARENT.

I THINK THAT'S GOING TO HELP US IN THE LONG RUN WITH OUR COMMUNITY KNOWING THAT WE HAVE NOTHING TO HIDE, IT'S ALL OUT THERE, AND THE COMMUNITY HAS A LOT TO SAY AND WHERE WE SPEND THE FUNDS.

AGAIN, KUDOS JASON AND YOUR TEAM.

CITY SCHOOLS COMMITTEE, AS YOU SAID, IT WAS CANCELED TODAY, BUT WE'RE GOING TO KEEP PLUGGING ALONG.

I KNOW THE MAYOR AND HIS TEAM, THEY'RE FEVERISHLY TRYING TO HIRE SOME KEY STAFF.

WE'LL JUST KIND OF WORK ON THEIR SCHEDULE.

WE DO HAVE ONE PLANNED FOR RIGHT BEFORE THE NOVEMBER BOARD MEETING, SO HOPEFULLY REPORT BACK OUT.

THEN, OF COURSE, GAYLE AND DOREEN, THANK YOU BOTH SO MUCH FOR ATTENDING THE BALANCED CALENDAR SUMMIT IN YAKIMA, AND WE'RE GOING TO HEAR A LITTLE BIT OF THAT IN JUST A MOMENT.

I WANT TO GIVE YOU AN UPDATE ON THAT.

WITH THE BALANCED CALENDAR, I KNOW ERICA AND OTHERS HAVE BEEN TALKING ABOUT THIS FOR A LONG TIME AND GIVING OUR STUDENTS SOME OPPORTUNITIES FOR SOME SUMMER LEARNING, SOME EXTENDED OPPORTUNITIES, AND POTENTIALLY EVEN AN EXTENDED SCHOOL YEAR OF SOME SORT.

THERE'S SO MANY DIFFERENT PLACES THAT WE CAN START AND FINISH WITH THAT.

IT WAS SO NICE TO HEAR THAT THE STATE IS ON BOARD AND IS DOING SOME GREAT WORK.

YOU CAN SEE HERE FROM THE SLIDE THAT OUR STATE SUPERINTENDENT WAS AT THIS WORKSHOP.

THERE'S SOME REALLY GOOD LANGUAGE THAT CAME OUT OF IT WITH THE PRIMARY OBJECTIVE IS TO ADDRESS UNFINISHED LEARNING DURING COVID AND LEARNING LOSS DURING SUMMER BREAK.

THE BALANCED CALENDAR IS ESSENTIALLY INSTEAD OF CONCENTRATING ON THE 180-DAY TRADITIONAL CALENDAR, A BALANCED CALENDAR SPREADS THEM THROUGHOUT THE YEAR.

SCHOOLS MAY USE THE BREAKS TO HOST "INTERCESSIONS" WHERE THEY CAN PROVIDE ADDITIONAL LEARNING EXPERIENCES IF NEEDED.

JUST SOMETHING WE'RE EXPLORING AND I WANTED TO PROVIDE THAT FEEDBACK AND C AND GAYLE AND DOREEN ARE BOTH HERE.

IF THERE'S ANY QUESTIONS OR MORE CONVERSATION, I KNOW THEY'RE HERE.

DID YOU LADIES WANT TO SHARE ANYTHING THAT I MAY HAVE MISSED? I KNOW THERE'S ANOTHER SLIDE HERE AS WELL THAT TALKS ABOUT SOME GRANT MONEY THAT'S OUT THERE, AS WELL AS WORKING ON THIS WITH OUR CITIZENS ADVISORY COMMITTEE.

REALLY EXCITED TO KIND OF PASS THE TORCH IN A WAY TO ASK OUR CITIZEN ADVISORY TO DO SOME RESEARCH AND SOME HOMEWORK ON THIS AND THEN REPORT BACK.

GAYLE, DOREEN, ANYTHING THAT I MISSED? TOO MANY BUTTONS.

>> WE WERE JUST REALLY PLEASED TO LEARN THAT WHILE WE DIDN'T GET A GRANT, WE WEREN'T REALLY AWARE THAT THE GRANTS ARE BEING OFFERED.

MANY SCHOOL DISTRICTS RECEIVED 1, 2, AND 3-YEAR GRANTS.

ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT JOHN MISHRA WAS THERE AND INDICATED THAT THERE IS STILL MORE MONEY TO GO AROUND,

[00:35:01]

SO WE'RE EXCITED ABOUT THAT OPPORTUNITY.

THEY'RE GOING TO LET US KNOW WHEN THE NEXT GRANT CYCLE COMES UP FOR THAT.

THAT WILL ALLOW US TO DEVELOP HOPEFULLY SOME INTERSESSIONS DURING SOME BREAKS FOR ADDITIONAL SUPPORT FOR STUDENTS WHO NEED IT.

IT WAS VERY COOL. ANY QUESTIONS?

>> GAYLE, ANYTHING?

>> DID YOU HAVE REPRESENTATIVES FROM ANY OF THE OTHER DISTRICTS IN CLARK COUNTY THAT WERE THERE ATTENDING WITH YOU?

>> NOT IN CLARK COUNTY, BUT THERE WERE DISTRICTS FROM ALL OVER THE STATE WORKING.

>> YEAH. NICE. GOOD.

>> I THINK I SAW ON THE SCHEDULE, THERE'S A CLASS OR TWO A BREAKOUT SESSION WHY WE'RE UP IN WAZDA.

I JUST SAW THE LIST OF THEM, SO I'M SURE IT WILL BE HITTING SOME OF THOSE WHILE WE'RE UP THERE TOO.

>> I MISSED HAVING THEM HERE WITH ME, I'LL TELL YOU THAT, BUT I KNOW IT WAS PRODUCTIVE. GREAT JOB.

THANK YOU, AGAIN, BOTH OF YOU AND WE'RE EXCITED JUST KEEP SHARING TO THE BOARD WHAT THE PROGRESS IS, ESPECIALLY AFTER WE SPEAK WITH THE CITIZEN ADVISORY COMMITTEE ON THIS.

ENROLLMENT. WE SAW AN UPTICK OF 31 STUDENTS.

EVERYONE COUNTS.

AS OF OCTOBER 15TH, OUR DISTRICT WAS JUST UNDER 7,100 STUDENTS; 4,154 IN SECONDARY, AND WE SAW THE MOST GROWTH IN ELEMENTARY AT 2,956.

REALLY DO WANT TO GIVE A SHOUT-OUT TO DAN AND HIS TEAM OVER AT CAMAS CONNECTIONS FOR SEEING 22 OF THOSE STUDENTS ALONE IN HIS PROGRAM.

HE IS DOING A GREAT JOB.

JASON, I KNOW YOU AND I TALKED ABOUT THAT.

WE'RE VERY PROUD OF THAT WORK.

YOU CAN ALSO SEE THE BREAKDOWN HERE IN HIGH SCHOOL, MIDDLE, AND ELEMENTARY.

I THINK THE MORAL OF THE STORY HERE IS THAT WE'RE REALLY RIGHT ON TRACK WITH WHERE OUR PROJECTIONS WERE AND ARE GOING.

EVEN THOUGH IT'S A STEADY RISE, IT'S MOVING IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION AND I THINK WE'RE AT A GOOD PLACE RIGHT NOW. COREY?

>> JUST TO CALL ATTENTION TO ONE OF THOSE NUMBERS UP THERE, I SEE A PRETTY BIG DECLINE ON CAMAS HIGH SCHOOL, 121.

CAN I ASSUME THAT'S THE RUNNING START NUMBERS? IS THAT CORRECT?

>> JASON, YEAH.

THAT'S WHAT WE'RE SEEING IS THE RUNNING START STUDENTS WERE.

THAT'S WHY THE BIG DROP FROM THE LAST TIME I REPORTED IN SEPTEMBER.

WE SAW THAT COMING ALL RIGHT.

>> ALSO WHY THE COLLEGE AND THE HIGH SCHOOL PUSH IS IMPORTANT FOR US.

>> WE ACTUALLY HAD A NICE TALK ABOUT THAT AT THE BUDGET COMMITTEE.

IT WAS REALLY ENLIGHTENING TO TALK TO THE BUDGET COMMITTEE ABOUT THAT.

I THINK A LOT OF PEOPLE HAVE MISCONCEPTIONS ON HOW THAT FUNDING WORKS.

IT WAS NEW TO ME AS WELL. I AGREE, COREY.

I THINK THAT'LL BE A BIG JUMP TO OUR DISTRICT IF WE CAN REALLY MANAGE THAT.

>> BACK AT THAT SIDE BECAUSE IT DOESN'T SPEAK FOR ITSELF IF PEOPLE ARE LOOKING AT THIS.

THE PLUS OR MINUS NUMBERS IN PARENTHESES ARE AS OF THE START OF THE SCHOOL YEAR.

THIS IS PLUS OR MINUS FROM THE START OF THE SCHOOL YEAR TILL OCTOBER 15TH, CORRECT?

>> THAT'S CORRECT.

>> THANK YOU.

>> THE FIRST OFFICIAL COUNT, SEPTEMBER 15TH, NOT AUGUST 29TH.

A COUPLE OF WEEKS IN. THANKS, GAYLE.

ANYTHING ELSE ON THE ENROLLMENT SLIDE? WE'RE REALLY EXCITED. I SEE DIANE IN THE BACK THERE ABOUT THIS PROGRAM THAT IS GETTING UNDERWAY.

THIS IS A NEW PROGRAM FOR KIDS WHO WILL BE FIVE YEARS OLD BY AUGUST 31ST.

THEY LIVE WITHIN THE HELEN BALLER OR GRASS VALLEY ATTENDANCE ZONE.

WE'VE HAD DIFFICULTY ASSESSING OR AFFORDING PRESCHOOL.

THAT'S A NATIONWIDE PROBLEM AS WELL.

THIS MAY HELP PROVIDE THAT NEED TO GET KIDS READY FOR KINDERGARTEN.

I'M REALLY EXCITED ABOUT OCTOBER 27TH, FROM 6-7 AT GRASS VALLEY.

PARENTS WILL HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO LEARN IF THEIR CHILD QUALIFIES.

DIANE, DID YOU WANT TO ADD ANYTHING TO THAT? FOR THOSE OF YOU AT HOME NOVEMBER 1ST OBLIGATIONS, THE 27TH IS INFORMATIONAL IN A NUTSHELL.

ANYTHING ELSE ON THIS ONE? THIS IS EXCITING.

>> CONGRATULATIONS. I KNOW IT WAS TOUGH WORK GETTING THAT GRANT AND EVERYTHING.

I THINK THE MORE RESOURCES WE CAN PUT INTO EARLY LEARNING, WE KNOW THAT, THAT'S GOING TO PAY DIVIDENDS FOR OUR STUDENTS IN THE FUTURE, SO CONGRATULATIONS TO YOU.

[APPLAUSE]

[00:40:02]

>> PROBABLY THIS HAS GOT A LITTLE BIT OF LOVE FOR DIANA AND HER TEAM, SO IT'S A GREAT LEGACY.

ALSO I WANT TO TAKE ANOTHER MOMENT TO RECOGNIZE OUR BUS DRIVERS AND ALL OF THOSE THAT WORK WITHIN TRANSPORTATION HERE IN OUR DISTRICT THIS WEEK WAS NATIONAL BUS SAFETY WEEKS SO WE WERE EXCITED TO GO OVER AND SEE THE TEAM.

CHAIRMAN AND I WENT OVER AND BOUGHT LUNCH FOR THE DRIVERS AND FORGOT TO TAKE PICTURES OF COURSE BECAUSE WE'RE EATING.

[LAUGHTER] CHAIRMAN THANK YOU TO AND YOUR TEAM; YOUR LEADERSHIP AGAIN.

A VERY DIFFICULT WEEK, BUT OUR BUS DRIVERS DIDN'T MISS A BIT.

IT'S PERFECT WEEK TO CELEBRATE OUR DRIVERS.

I ALSO WANTED TO TAKE A MOMENT TO RECOGNIZE JOSIAH HUANG.

JOSIAH WAS RECOGNIZED AS THE SOPHOMORE OF THE MONTH AT ROTARY LAST WEEK AND HE COULDN'T MAKE IT TONIGHT; I WAS TELLING DOUG EARLIER, IT'S BECAUSE HE'S SO BUSY AND THAT'S WHY HE'S STUDENT OF THE MONTH BUT EACH MONTH THE ROTARY CLUB RECOGNIZES A DIFFERENT SOPHOMORE.

I LOVE THAT TOO BECAUSE SOMETIMES THOSE SOPHOMORES ARE LIKE THE MIDDLE CHILD.

MY SON IS ONE AS WE SPEAK, I GET IT.

I THINK IT'S WONDERFUL THAT ROTARY DOES THAT AND THEN AT THE END OF THE YEAR THEY'LL PICK THE SOPHOMORE OF THE YEAR, SO LET'S CROSS OUR FINGERS FOR JOSIAH AND I JUST WANTED TO MAKE SURE WE RECOGNIZE HIM.

IF YOU SEE HIM AROUND, GIVE HIM A PAT ON THE BACK, HE'S DOING GREAT WORK.

AS COREY MENTIONED, WE HAD THE GARVER RE-OPENING GREAT TURNOUT.

THIS IS A PICTURE THAT WE WERE ABLE TO CAPTURE OF THE PLAQUE THAT WAS MADE IN JOYCE'S HONOR.

WE HAD HER DAUGHTER JULIE THERE AND SON I CAN'T REMEMBER HIS NAME, THE SON'S NAME.

REX MET SEVERAL OTHER FAMILY MEMBERS, BUT I'LL TELL YOU.

WE HAD SUCH NEAT HIGHLIGHTS, WE HAD THE CHOIR THERE FROM CAMAS HIGH SCHOOL, BUT I THOUGHT THEIR ALUMNI CHOIR JUST KNOCKED IT OUT OF THE PARK.

THEY LITERALLY HAD A 10-MINUTE REHEARSAL.

THEY GOT UP THERE AND KNOCKED IT OUT OF THE PARK AND IT WAS SO GREAT.

I THINK WE NEED TO SEE MORE OF THAT ALUMNI CHOIR, BUT I DO WANT TO THANK THE GARVER FAMILY.

IT IS PLEASURE MEETING AND WORKING WITH THEM.

COREY SAID IT EARLIER BUT DOREEN, AMAZING WORK.

MARY AND HER TEAM THIS IS REALLY ANOTHER LABOR OF LOVE THAT TOOK A LONG TIME TO PUT TOGETHER, BUT I REALLY THINK THAT THIS IS GOING TO BE A GREAT COMMUNITY GATHERING PLACE FOR MANY YEARS TO COME AND SO NEAT THAT THIS WAS A HIGH SCHOOL.

THIS WAS THE ORIGINAL HIGH SCHOOL AND SOME OF THE ALUMNI COMING BACK AND LOOKING AROUND GOING, WOW I NEVER EXPECTED THIS TO HAPPEN SO INCREDIBLE.

ALSO A GREAT PLACE FOR OUR STUDENTS SOMETIME VERY SOON TO START CELEBRATING THEIR EVENTS THERE, SO LOOKING FORWARD TO THAT AS WE MOVE FORWARD.

THEN LASTLY I JUST WANTED TO SEND MY THANK YOU PERSONALLY AS WELL AS THE SUPERINTENDENT.

OUR FIRST RESPONDERS, INCREDIBLE WORK.

IT WAS A COLLABORATIVE EFFORT AS YOU KNOW FROM ALL AROUND THE STATE AND MULTIPLE STATES THAT CAME IN AND WORK TOGETHER.

WE ACTUALLY RECEIVE THIS HONOR THIS AFTERNOON.

THIS IS AN APPRECIATION FROM THE OREGON DEPARTMENT OF FORESTRY FOR THE SUPPORT THAT WE GAVE AS A SCHOOL DISTRICT FOR THE NAKIA CREEK FIRE AND THIS WAS GIVEN TO US BY MATT HOWARD, AN INCIDENT COMMANDER.

THIS ARTWORK ON HERE IS BY LILY FROM FREUND HILL ELEMENTARY.

THIS IS MY FIRST LITTLE PIECE OF HARDWARE AS SUPERINTENDENT, SO I'M EXCITED ALTHOUGH THIS IS FOR THE COMMUNITY AND THE BOARD.

AGAIN, THANK YOU THE ENTIRE CAMAS SCHOOL DISTRICT STAFF.

IT WAS A TOUGH WEEK, BUT EVERYBODY CAME TOGETHER.

SOME TOUGH DECISIONS HAD TO BE MADE.

WE WERE ABLE TO STAY OPEN AND GET THE KIDS IN SCHOOL AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE.

MOST IMPORTANTLY WE WERE ABLE TO REALLY PROVIDE GRACE TO OUR STAFF WHO COULDN'T MAKE IT IN.

WE HAVE SO MANY STUDIOUS STUDENTS WHO WERE JUST SO NERVOUS ABOUT MISSING AND WE MADE SURE THAT OUR TEACHERS AND OUR PRINCIPALS SHOWED THAT GRACE TO THEM.

OUR FIRST RESPONDERS WERE INCREDIBLE.

THEY CAME OUT TO THE FOOTBALL GAME.

FRIDAY NIGHT WE HAD COACHES THAT PUT TOGETHER A BIG BARBEQUE AND A BASH FOR THEM AND MANY WERE ABLE TO MAKE IT EVEN IN THAT COLD, RAINY WEATHER.

THIS WAS JUST ONE PICTURE OF MANY THAT WE WERE ABLE TO TAKE WITH THEM, AND SO ULTIMATELY THANK YOU FOR EVERYONE INVOLVED; THE WASHOUGAL CAMAS FIRE DEPARTMENT, OUR NEWLY APPOINTED CHIEF FREE WAS INCREDIBLE.

HIS GUIDANCE WAS JUST PERFECT THROUGHOUT THE WEEK.

IT'S REALLY NEAT TO BE ABLE TO REACH OUT AND TALK TO THE CHIEF DIRECTLY AND HE CALLS YOU RIGHT BACK.

PRETTY NEAT. WITH THAT SAID, I THINK THAT'S IT FOR MY REPORT.

ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS?

>> I JUST WANT TO SAY I THINK I SAW ON SOCIAL MEDIA THAT THE CAMAS BOOSTERS PROVIDED A BIG DINNER BEFORE THE FOOTBALL GAME AND THEY WERE BUSSING FIRST-RESPONDERS AND FIRE PERSONNEL?

[00:45:01]

NO, IT WASN'T THE CAMAS BOOSTERS.

[BACKGROUND] GOT YOU.

I APPRECIATE CAMAS BOOSTERS FOR EXTENDING THAT APPRECIATION AND JUST REPRESENTING THE ENTIRE DISTRICT WITH THAT.

THANK YOU TO ALL THE VOLUNTEERS WITH THE CAMAS BOOSTERS.

WE SEE YOU, APPRECIATE YOU.

>> CAN I JUST GET ONE MORE SHOUT OUT TO THE FIRST-RESPONDERS AND EVERYONE WHO WAS THERE.

IF YOU LIVED IN FROM PRAIRIE AND YOU DROVE BY GROWTH FIELD AND SAW THE COMMAND CENTER AND THE FIRE CAMP, I NEVER WANT TO LIVE THROUGH THAT AGAIN IN MY LIFE, BUT IT WAS IMPRESSIVE.

THE AIRCRAFT THAT WAS THERE, THE TENTS, THE BATHROOMS, I DRIVE THROUGH IT EVERY DAY TAKING LOGAN TO SCHOOL AND BECAUSE I LIVE OUT FROM THE PRAIRIE AREA.

THE SUPPORT THAT YOU GOT AND TO SEE EVERYONE COME TOGETHER WAS AMAZING, AND SO IT'S A LITTLE BIT EMOTIONAL THAT ALL THAT HAPPENED BUT THANK YOU TO ALL THAT AND THE COMMUNITY WAS GREAT.

>> ANYTHING ELSE? WE'RE GOOD HERE.

OUR NEXT REPORT, OUR MONTHLY BUDGET REPORT WITH JASON MCETHAN.

>> GOOD EVENING. I WANT TO GIVE AN UPDATE TO OUR EFFORTS TO CLOSE LAST FISCAL YEAR.

WE'VE MADE SOME REFINEMENTS SINCE I REPORTED AT THE LAST BOARD MEETING.

IT'S REALLY HONED IN NOW THAT THE NET CHANGE IS A COUPLE $100,000 THE FUND BALANCE, SO NOT A GREAT DEAL OF MOVEMENT.

IT IS A GOOD STORY FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF, WE INTEGRATED THIS PROJECTION INTO OUR BUDGET FOR THE 22, 23 YEARS, AND SO WHEN YOU START TO SEE PROJECTIONS BECOME REALITY IT HELPS WITH THAT BUDGET MESSAGE AND SO WE'RE NOT SEEING ANY MAJOR MUSCLE MOVEMENTS AS IT RELATES TO OUR FUND BALANCE SO WE'RE GOING TO START THE [INAUDIBLE] SCHOOL YEAR.

JOHN STOLE MY THUNDER ON THE WHOLE ENROLLMENT THING, I'M GOING TO SKIP OVER THAT BUT BASICALLY THAT CAME IN AS PROJECTED AS WELL.

AGAIN, THAT WAS PRETTY REMARKABLE ACTUALLY, THE WAY THAT THAT TURNED OUT FOR AS IN THE SIX BUDGETS THAT I'VE PREPARED SINCE BEING HERE WE'VE NEVER BEEN THAT CLOSE TO OUR PROJECTION.

THAT'S GOOD, LET'S THROW SOME MORE CONSISTENCY IN OUR ANNUAL BUDGET THAT WE TRY SO HARD TO GET INFORMATION OUT TO PUBLIC AND IT'S NICE THAT IT'S FALLING IN LINE WITH THAT.

RIGHT NOW OUR PROJECTION FOR THIS YEAR IT'S WITHIN 200,000 NET CHANGE FROM OUR ANNUAL BUDGETS.

AS I MENTIONED, ENROLLMENT IS PART OF THAT.

WE'RE EXECUTING OUR STAFFING PLAN AS WE HAD ANTICIPATED WHICH IS ANOTHER IMPORTANT PIECE.

THAT'S MAJOR DRIVER.

WE WILL NOT END THE YEAR BUT I WOULD BE VERY SHOCKED.

THERE'S ALWAYS SOMETHING THAT COMES UP DURING THE COURSE OF THE YEAR, BUT AT LEAST ON THE OUTSET I DON'T SEE ANY NEED FOR ANY MAJOR MUSCLE MOVEMENTS JUST TO MAKE SURE THAT WE ACHIEVE THE ENDING FUND BALANCE THAT WE HAD HOPED FOR.

WHEN YOU LOOK AT THE REVENUE SIDE OF THE HOUSE, THERE'S A SLIGHT OR A STATE GENERAL-PURPOSE; GPS, GENERAL PURPOSE THOUGH GENERAL APPORTIONMENT.

REALLY IT'S PRETTY CLOSE. WE'RE ON A $71 MILLION LINE ITEM AND WE ARE WITHIN 400,000, SO THAT'S PRETTY CLOSE.

IN THE STATE SP IS SPECIAL PURPOSE.

THAT'S LIKE OUR SPECIAL ED, THERE'S A BUMP IN THERE AND ALL OF THOSE CHANGES ARE OUR ENROLLMENT TRIP.

THE NET CHANGE WE'RE LOOKING AT ABOUT THREE OVERALL.

THERE'S SOME ROUNDING IN THERE, SO THAT'S WHY THERE'S ZEROS BUT THAT'S PRETTY CLOSE.

EXPENDITURES. AGAIN, PRETTY CLOSE.

[00:50:03]

WE'RE SEEING A LITTLE BIT MORE ON EXPENDITURES AND MAYBE WHAT WE HAD INITIALLY BUDGETED.

KEEP IN MIND, THIS DOESN'T INCLUDE CONTINGENCY.

WE FEEL THIS BACK THAT REALLY SHOW THE REAL TEXTURE OF THE ONION IF YOU WILL.

THIS REALLY HONES IN ON BEING VERY CLOSE, SO JUST OVER 800,000 ON THE EXPENDITURE SIDE THEN A COUPLE OF HUNDRED ON THE RED.

WE ALSO PROVIDED UNDER THE TRADITIONAL GRAPHS HERE AS WELL THAT WE PROVIDE ON A MONTHLY BASIS AND THEN STARTING NEXT MONTH WE'LL REPEAT THE CYCLE, SO WE'LL BE PROVIDING SEPTEMBER REPORT AND PROBABLY AN OCTOBER REPORT TOO.

RIGHT NOW WE'RE FOCUSED ON CLOSING YEAR AND SEPTEMBER IS STILL PRELIMINARY, SO EXPECT TO CATCH UP NEXT MONTH.

WE'LL DO SEPTEMBER ENOUGH. ANY QUESTIONS ON THAT?

>> WHAT ARE TRANSFERS ON THE LAST SLIDE?

>> WE BUDGET TRANSFERS TO EITHER DEBT SERVICE OR CAPITAL PROJECTS,.

>> OH CAPITAL PROJECTS.

>> THOSE ARE TRANSFERS IN BETWEEN.

>> THANK YOU.

>> ANY OTHER QUESTIONS FOR JASON? I THINK WE'RE GOOD.

>> WELL, THANK YOU.

>> THANK YOU JASON.

>> NEXT UP, 9C, WE HAVE OUR QUARTERLY EQUITY REPORT FROM OUR NEW OPPORTUNITY ACCESS AND INCLUSION COORDINATOR. DID I GET THAT TITLE RIGHT.

>> YOU GOT IT.

>> KATIE SEIDEL COMING UP. THANK YOU.

>> THANKS, CORY. WHILE KATIE'S COMING UP, JUST REALLY EXCITED TO FINALLY HAVE KATIE FULL-TIME.

SHE'S BEEN WORKING BACK-AND-FORTH AS SHE DIDN'T WANT TO LEAVE ANY STONE UNTURNED AT HER SCHOOL.

AGAIN, A GREAT TALENT IN OUR DISTRICT AND SOMEONE THAT WE'VE HAD OUR EYE ON FOR AWHILE AND WE HAVE NOTHING BUT GREAT HOPE FOR WHAT SHE'LL DO AND LEADING THE EQUITY WORK AND THE WORK THAT IS HAPPENING, NOT JUST WITH THE ADULTS BUT PRIMARILY WITH OUR STUDENTS.

WITH THAT SAID, KATIE, THANK YOU.

I THINK SHE'S BEEN ON THE JOB ABOUT A WEEK, SO SHE GETS TO COME SPEAK TO THE BOARD AND TRIAL BY FIRE.

I KNOW SHE'S GOING TO DO WELL.

>> NOW IT IS. CAN YOU HEAR ME? I'M KATIE SEIDEL. THANK YOU FOR THAT LOVELY INTRODUCTION.

I'M OUR NEW OPPORTUNITIES FOR ACCESS AND INCLUSION COORDINATOR.

WITH THAT, I WOULD LOVE TO SAY THANK YOU TO OUR SCHOOL BOARD.

THOUGH, I PULLED THIS BOARD POLICY FROM ALL OF OUR POLICIES AND THIS IS ABOUT WHAT EQUITY MEANS TO CAMAS SCHOOL DISTRICT AND I LOVED IT.

AS I'M DIGGING INTO JUST WHO WE ARE, WHERE WE'VE BEEN, WHERE WE'RE HEADED. ALL THAT STUFF.

I WAS REALLY EXCITED TO SEE THE BOLD PART THAT THIS IS A COLLECTIVE RESPONSIBILITY AND REQUIRES ACCOUNTABILITY, SO IT SOUNDS GOOD TO SEE AND SERVE EVERY STUDENT.

IT SOUNDS GOOD TO KNOW THEM BY NAME AND STRENGTH THE NEED, BUT THERE'S A RESPONSIBILITY THERE TO MAKE SURE THAT WE'RE DOING THAT FOR ALL OF OUR LEARNERS.

I'M EXCITED ABOUT THIS WORK, I'M EXCITED ABOUT THIS POSITION.

I LOVE THAT WE HAVE A LEADERSHIP ROLE THAT'S DESIGNATED FOR EQUITY ESSENTIALLY AND ACCESS FOR ALL OF OUR LEARNERS.

I'M STOKED, THIS IS MY LIFE'S WORK, SO I'M READY.

AS A DISTRICT, WE HAVE TALKED A LOT THIS YEAR ABOUT HOPE AND THE SCIENCE OF HOPE BEING COLLECTIVE EXPERIENCES AND COMMON GOALS AND REALLY FOSTERING AND ENCOURAGING GROWTH IN THE PEOPLE THAT WE SERVE, SO OUR STUDENTS AND OUR STAFF.

THAT'S A PROCESS, HOPE IS A PROCESS BUT THAT'S OUR BIG THEME FOR THE YEAR, WHAT WE'VE BEEN TALKING ABOUT AT EVERY MEETING.

ONE OF OUR OTHER MAJOR PIECES IS A SENSE OF BELONGING.

I FOUND THIS DATA POINT FROM THE SPRING OF 2022.

THIS IS A PANORAMA SUMMARY DATA POINT, SO IF YOU WERE TO DIVE IN A LITTLE DEEPER, YOU'D SEE THE QUESTIONS THAT CONTRIBUTED TO THESE SCORES, BUT THE CURRENT PANORAMA SURVEY IS OPEN UNTIL THIS FRIDAY, I BELIEVE, AND SO WE DON'T HAVE NEW RESULTS YET FOR THE FALL.

THIS IS FROM THE SPRING AND YOU CAN SEE THAT GRADES THREE THROUGH FIVE HAVE

[00:55:04]

A 63 PERCENT OF OUR STUDENTS IN GRADES THREE THROUGH FIVE SAID THAT THEY DO HAVE A STRONG SENSE OF BELONGING IN OUR SCHOOLS.

THE LITTLE GREEN DOT IS OUR NATIONAL PERCENTILE, HOW WE COMPARE TO OTHER SCHOOLS AND DISTRICTS ACROSS THE NATION.

THEN THE BOTTOM ONE IS 44 PERCENT FOR GRADE 6 THROUGH 12 AND YOU CAN SEE THAT THAT'S A MUCH LOWER.

EVEN THOUGH OUR ELEMENTARY IS AT 63, THAT WAS A SIX PERCENT DROP, I THINK THAT THE PREVIOUS SURVEY WAS 69 PERCENT.

WHAT THIS TELLS ME IS THAT ALL OF OUR STUDENTS DON'T FEEL LIKE THEY BELONG IN OUR SCHOOLS AND THAT'S CONCERNING REGARDLESS OF HOW WE COMPARE, THERE'S REASONS WHY AND WE ALL KNOW AS HUMANS THAT WE HAVE TO HAVE A SENSE OF BELONGING IN ORDER TO SUCCEED WHEREVER WE'RE AT.

IF YOU DON'T FEEL LIKE YOU BELONG YOU'RE NOT GOING TO EXPERIENCE SUCCESS.

I SAW THOSE AS ONE OF OUR FOCUS POINTS FOR THE YEAR AND IN THINKING ABOUT EQUITY, JUST WHO ARE THOSE KIDS.

WHO ARE THE KIDS IN THE GRAY PART OF THAT BAR AND HOW DO I HELP ALL OF OUR STAFF REACH THOSE KIDS? THE QUESTION AT THE TOP IS IN WHAT WAYS CAN WE IMPACT OUR LEARNERS SENSE OF BELONGING BY INCREASING THEIR ACCESS TO OUR SYSTEMS, SO WHO'S NOT ABLE TO ACCESS OUR SYSTEMS? WHO FEELS LIKE THEY DON'T BELONG IN OUR SCHOOLS.

ITS NOT MOST UPLIFTING BUT IT'S A GREAT PLACE TO START FOR US.

IN REVIEWING OUR EQUITY WORK AS A DISTRICT, FOR A LITTLE BIT OF CONTEXT I'VE BEEN WORKING ON OUR DISTRICT EQUITY COMMITTEE AND OUR WORK FOR THE LAST FIVE YEARS OR WHENEVER THE DISTRICT COMMITTEE STARTED.

LAST FALL, WE PUT OUT EQUITY MODULE 1, SO WE'VE HAD A TOTAL OF THREE MODULES.

EQUITY MODULE 1 WAS OUR EQUITY FOUNDATIONS AROUND AWARENESS AND ANTI-RACISM.

THIS WAS LAST FALL AND WE EXPLORED THE COURAGEOUS CONVERSATIONS COMPASS, WHICH IS SOMETHING THAT IS VERY COMMON IN ORGANIZATIONS AND SCHOOL SYSTEMS LIKE HAVING CONVERSATIONS AROUND RACE.

WE EXPERIENCED A GALLERY WALK OF HISTORICAL FACTS OF SYSTEMIC RACISM AND THAT EXPERIENCE BROUGHT FORWARD A LOT OF QUESTIONS ABOUT WHAT NOW? WHAT DO I DO ABOUT THIS? I SEE THAT THERE ARE SYSTEMIC RACISM HAPPENING AND IT FEELS REALLY BIG TO ME.

THAT WAS GREAT, THAT WE HAD THAT WONDERING OR THAT QUESTIONING AND THE CARE FROM OUR STAFF ABOUT WHAT WE CAN DO NOW.

THEN WE ALSO LEARNED ABOUT DISCOURSES 1 AND 2 AND DISCOURSE 0 AS WELL, WHICH IS BASICALLY HOW WE FRAME THE WAY WE TALK ABOUT OTHERS.

WHAT TYPES OF LANGUAGE AND ATTITUDES WE USE WHEN WE TALK ABOUT OTHERS.

EQUITY MODULE 2 WAS IN THE SPRING.

THIS WAS AROUND UNDERSTANDING LGBTQIA PLUS COMMUNITY, STUDENTS AND STAFF.

WE DEFINED GENDER IDENTITIES.

WE HEARD STUDENT VOICE AROUND THEIR EXPERIENCES IN OUR SCHOOLS. THIS WAS REALLY POWERFUL.

WE HAD STUDENTS THAT SHARED ON VIDEO AND IN WRITING THEIR EXPERIENCES IN OUR SCHOOLS WHICH WERE SOMEWHAT POSITIVE AND NOT ALL POSITIVE THAT'S WHY WE DO THIS WORK.

WE LEARNED STRATEGIES FOR INTERRUPTING HARMFUL STATEMENTS AND INTERACTIONS.

THEN JUST THIS FALL, THIS IS OUR MOST RECENT ONES SO THIS IS FOR THIS QUARTER, SINCE WE'RE DOING THE QUARTERLY EQUITY REVIEW.

WE DID BELIEFS AND ACCEPTANCE, SO BIAS, MICROAGGRESSIONS AND CULTURALLY RESPONSIVE PRACTICES.

WE TALKED ABOUT THE WAY WE THINK ABOUT THINGS AND HOW WE MAKE DECISIONS, SO THIS FOCUSED MORE ON OUR BRAIN SCIENCE WITH THE AUTOMATIC VERSUS REFLECTIVE MINDSETS AND THEN WE EXPLORED VARIOUS TYPES OF RACIAL AGGRESSION THROUGH REFLECTION.

WE USED EXAMPLES FROM THE MEDIA THAT MAY HAVE MAYBE COMMON KNOWLEDGE AND SOME OF THEM WEREN'T COMMON KNOWLEDGE.

WITH OUR STAFF, WE HAD A PRETTY LARGE SPECTRUM OF DIFFERENT VOICES THAT WERE REPRESENTED, COMMENTS FROM PEOPLE YOU WOULDN'T EXPECT THEM TO BE FROM IN OUR MEDIA.

THAT WAS REALLY POWERFUL.

THIS MODULE, THIS MOST RECENT MODULE, WE GOT THE, I WOULD SAY THE MOST POSITIVE FEEDBACK FROM OUR STAFF BECAUSE THIS IS REQUIRED FOR ALL OF OUR STAFF HERE IN OUR DISTRICT.

BECAUSE IT FELT ACCESSIBLE, IT FELT LIKE THEY CAME AWAY WITH TOOLS AND IDEAS FOR THE FUTURE AND SO THAT'S SOMETHING THAT I LOVE TO BUILD ON.

THE OTHER FEEDBACK WE GOT FROM THIS MOST RECENT EQUITY MODULE.

YOU CAN SEE THE BACKGROUND IS MESSY DIGITAL DOCUMENT.

[01:00:02]

THAT'S A JAMBOARD WHICH IS WHERE YOU CAN PUT LITTLE STICKY NOTES.

WE ASKED FOR FEEDBACK IN THIS PRETTY CASUAL WAY FROM OUR PRINCIPALS, OUR BUILDING LEADERS, AND I READ THROUGH IT.

THERE WAS MORE THAN JUST THIS ONE SLIDE BUT I READ THROUGH IT AND CAME OUT WITH THOSE THREE MAIN THEMES THAT ARE THE BULLET POINTS.

ONE OF THOSE BEING THAT OUR LEADERS WOULD LIKE TO KNOW HOW TO EMPOWER STUDENTS TO INTERRUPT AND REPORT HARMFUL STATEMENTS THAT THEY HEAR OR ACTIONS THAT THEY SEE.

THAT IS PROBABLY WHERE YOU WOULD GET THE MOST POWER FROM IS WHEN STUDENTS ARE CARING FOR THEIR OWN COMMUNITY FROM WITHIN.

THAT WAS AWESOME FOR ME TO SEE THAT THEY WOULD LIKE TO EMPOWER STUDENTS.

THE SECOND ONE WAS CELEBRATING AND ACKNOWLEDGING ALL HOLIDAYS.

THAT WAS LIKE OUR MAINSTREAM CHRISTIAN HOLIDAYS THAT WE CELEBRATE IN THE GROCERY STORES AND THEN OTHER HOLIDAYS THAT EXIST THAT MAYBE AREN'T AS PUBLICIZED OR POPULAR AND SO THAT WAS EXCITING TO FOUR OR FOR ME TO SEE THAT OUR STAFF WANTS TO BE MORE INCLUSIVE REGARDING HOW OUR STUDENTS CELEBRATE THEIR CULTURE.

THEN THE LAST PIECE WAS AND THIS IS TOUGH NO MATTER BUT IT WAS ADDRESSING STAFF WHOSE PERSONAL VALUES MAY NOT ALIGN WITH DISTRICT AND COMMUNITY GOALS AND SO REALLY REMEMBERING THAT WE ARE ALL HERE FOR KIDS AND SO HOW CAN WE CENTER THIS WORK AROUND KIDS, REGARDLESS OF OUR PERSONAL VALUES THAT WE BRING WITH US TO SCHOOL AS ADULTS.

THAT WAS THE LAST ONE THAT SCHOOL LEADERS WOULD LIKE SUPPORT WITH.

THOSE ARE SOME AREAS TO HELP GUIDE WHERE WE'RE MOVING, BUT WE DON'T HAVE EQUITY MODULE 4 PLANNED YET.

OBVIOUSLY I JUST STARTED, SO WE'LL SEE WHAT THAT LOOKS LIKE.

MORE TO COME, MAYBE AT THE NEXT QUARTERLY REVIEW WE'LL HAVE SOME MORE INFORMATION FOR YOU.

EVERYBODY OKAY OVER THERE? [LAUGHTER] MOVING FORWARD WITH THAT IN MIND, WHERE WE'VE BEEN.

IN MY JUST INITIAL AUDITS OF WHAT I'M HEARING AROUND FROM OUR LEADERS, OUR STUDENTS, SOME PLACES THAT I'M HEADED HERE ARE ANALYZING OUR STUDENT ACADEMIC, SOCIAL, EMOTIONAL, AND DISCIPLINE DATA TO IDENTIFY AREAS IN NEED OF ACCESS AND GROWTH.

WE KNOW THAT THOSE ARE ALL MARKERS OF STUDENT ACCESS IN OUR BUILDINGS.

MEETING WITH INDIVIDUAL BUILDING LEADERS.

IN PARTICULAR, OUR PRINCIPALS WHO WE ARE TRYING TO EMPOWER ALSO TO BE THE EQUITY LEADERS OF EVERY BUILDING; WHEN THAT'S TRUE, THEY WOULD BE ABLE TO TELL ME WHAT FEEDBACK OR NEEDS THEIR BUILDING HAS, INCLUDING SUPPORTING THEIR BUILDING EQUITY TEAMS. I THINK WE HAVE A BUILDING EQUITY TEAM AT EVERY SCHOOL EXCEPT FOR CCA, WHICH WE JUST TALKED ABOUT IT THIS MORNING BECAUSE THEIR STAFF WANTS TO START A BUILDING EQUITY TEAM, WHICH IS GREAT.

THAT'S SO EXCITING. I THINK THEY'LL HAVE ONE HERE SHORTLY.

WE ALSO ARE WORKING TOWARDS OUR STATE EXPECTATIONS AROUND GENDER-INCLUSIVE SCHOOL POLICIES AND PRACTICES.

THIS IS OUT OF NEED FOR WHAT OUR STUDENTS ARE TELLING US THEY NEED, WHAT STAFF ARE TELLING US THEY NEED, AND WHAT THE STATE ALSO SAYS WE SHOULD BE DOING.

THAT'S AN AREA OF FOCUS FOR THIS YEAR AS WELL.

THEN FINALLY, AS I MENTIONED, OUR DEVELOPMENT OF EQUITY MODULE 4.

IN RESPONSE TO THOSE BUILDING AUDITS AND STUDENT AND ADULT FEEDBACK, OUR POTENTIAL TOPICS, ARE THOSE CULTURALLY RESPONSIVE CELEBRATIONS, INTERSECTIONALITY, AND STUDENT EMPOWERMENT AROUND EQUITY.

I WOULD LOVE TO ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS THAT AROSE FOR YOU. YEAH, DOUG?

>> DISCOURSE 1, DISCOURSE 2 I'M FAMILIAR WITH IT.

>> YEAH.

>> DISCOURSE 0, I HAVEN'T HEARD.

IS THAT JUST THE ABSENCE OF ANY?

>> THAT'S THE MOST NEGATIVE, THE WORST. YEAH.

>> LIKE?

>> HATE SPEECH [LAUGHTER].

>> THANK YOU.

>> THESE PRIORITIES ARE BEAUTIFUL.

I DON'T KNOW HOW YOU PRIORITIZE THE PRIORITIES [LAUGHTER] BECAUSE ALL FOUR OF THESE ARE AMAZING.

THANK YOU. GOOD LUCK.

WE'RE BEHIND YOU.

THESE ARE GREAT. THANK YOU.

>> THANK YOU.

>> ANY OTHER QUESTIONS? THANK YOU.

>> I'M HERE IF YOU NEED ANYTHING.

>> YOU CAN CHECK BACK IN WITH US OTHER THAN EVERY QUARTER [LAUGHTER].

>> OKAY.

>> YOU'RE GOOD.

>> THANKS.

>> OPEN INVITATION.

>> THANK YOU, KATIE AND CORY, JUST A COUPLE OF POINTS THERE TOO.

I THINK AS YOU SEE, KATIE IS THE RIGHT PERSON AT THE RIGHT TIME.

[01:05:02]

SHE'S VERY PASSIONATE ABOUT THIS WORK.

A LOT OF WHAT SHE SAID THERE REALLY CORRESPONDS TO OUR MTSS OR ACADEMIC SEL BEHAVIOR TRIAD.

WORKING UNDER LISA, BUT ALONGSIDE OF ALAN AND SHUREY AND OTHERS IN THAT DEPARTMENT, IT REALLY IS CREATING THIS COHESIVE TEAM.

SHE WAS REALLY JUST A PIECE OF THAT PUZZLE THAT WE'VE BEEN MISSING.

THANK YOU TO THE BOARD FOR YOUR SUPPORT IN THAT POSITION.

I THINK IT'S VERY PROGRESSIVE, BUT I ALSO THINK IT'S AGAIN, THE RIGHT WORK AT THE RIGHT TIME.

>> I APPRECIATE THE FOCUS OF IT JUST STAYING STUDENT-CENTERED BECAUSE IN THE END THAT'S WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT.

>> I JUST LIKE TO CHALLENGE THAT I DON'T THINK INCLUSIVITY IS PROGRESSIVE.

THAT'S WHAT WE'RE HERE TO DO. THANK YOU.

>> MOVING ON TO ITEM 10 ON OUR AGENDA.

[10. STRONG COMMUNITY, FAMILY AND BUSINESS PARTNERSHIPS]

A STRONG COMMUNITY, FAMILY, AND BUSINESS PARTNERSHIPS, 10A ARE ONLY ITEM IN THAT CATEGORY.

WE NEED TO APPROVE A NEW SLATE OF VOLUNTEERS WHO ARE SITTING ON OUR CITIZENS ADVISORY COMMITTEE.

THESE NEW FOLKS ARE GOING TO BE PART OF A THREE-YEAR TERM, DR. ANZALONE, AND I DON'T KNOW IF YOU HAVE ANYTHING YOU WANT TO TALK ABOUT MAYBE THE PROCESS BEHIND THIS, HOW WE GOT TO THIS SLATE OF CANDIDATES?

>> SURE. THE PROCESS WAS REALLY WELL ORGANIZED.

GAYLE REALLY LED THAT PROCESS.

WE HAD MYSELF, GAYLE, DOREEN, AS WELL AS OUR CHAIR AND CO-CHAIR, QUINN AND KEVIN.

IT'S A VERY OPEN PROCESS.

WE MET TO LOOK AT ALL THE APPLICANTS.

WE HAD 12 OPENINGS, IF I'M NOT MISTAKEN; 11 OPENINGS AND OVER 50 CANDIDATES.

IT WAS A PRETTY IMPRESSIVE GROUP.

WE REALLY PROBABLY COULDN'T HAVE GONE WRONG WITH ANY OF THOSE SELECTIONS.

BUT WHAT WE WERE DOING IS LOOKING AT DIVERSITY AND A LOT OF DIFFERENT WAYS, BUT ALSO MAKING SURE THAT EACH OF OUR BOARD TRUSTEE DISTRICTS WERE REPRESENTED.

WE WERE ABLE TO ACCOMPLISH THAT AND I'M REALLY EXCITED ABOUT THESE NEW MEMBERS.

HOPEFULLY, YOU'LL HAVE YOUR SUPPORT ON THIS.

>> WITH THAT, THE BOARD HAS THE SLATE OF CANDIDATES IN FRONT OF YOU.

I WOULD ENTERTAIN A MOTION TO ACCEPT THESE FOLKS FOR A THREE-YEAR TERM ON CITIZENS ADVISORY COMMITTEE.

>> I WOULD MOVE FOR APPROVAL OF THIS SLATE AS PRESENTED.

>> I'LL SECOND.

>> IT WAS MOVED BY DOUG, AND SECONDED BY TRACEY.

ANY FURTHER DISCUSSION? ALL THOSE IN FAVOR?

>> AYE.

>> ANY OPPOSED? IT'S UNANIMOUS.

MOVING RIGHT ALONG HERE TO ITEM 11,

[11. QUALITY FACILITIES AND RESOURCES]

QUALITY FACILITIES AND RESOURCES.

A COUPLE OF ITEMS UNDER HERE.

FIRST OF ALL, ITEM A ARE SECURITY SOFTWARE PURCHASE REQUEST.

THIS IS A REQUEST FROM OUR TECHNOLOGY DEPARTMENT FOR UPDATING OUR FIREWALL SOFTWARE.

I KNOW SHERMAN IS HERE IF THERE ARE ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT IT.

OTHERWISE, I'D ENTERTAIN A MOTION FOR APPROVAL.

>> I'LL MAKE THE MOTION TO APPROVE THE PURCHASE OF THE SOPHOS FIREWALL SOFTWARE FOR $238,805.20 INCLUDING TAX, AND THAT WILL COME FROM THE TECHNOLOGY LEVY FUNDS.

>> I'LL SECOND THAT.

>> IT'S MOVED BY TRACEY AND SECONDED BY ERICA.

ANY FURTHER DISCUSSION? ALL THOSE IN FAVOR?

>> AYE.

>> MOTION CARRIES THERE. WE'VE BEEN DOWN TO ITEM B HERE.

WE HAVE A PROPOSAL FOR TRANSPORTATION FUELS SOFTWARE SYSTEM UPGRADE.

IT LOOKS THIS IS A FIVE-YEAR AGREEMENT TOTALING 9,690.

LOOKING FOR A MOTION AND A SECOND.

>> I WOULD MOVE TO APPROVE THE FIVE-YEAR AGREEMENT WITH THE EKOS SOFTWARE IN THE VALUE OF 9,690, AND THAT INCLUDES THAT $1,200 ANNUAL CLOUD SUBSCRIPTION AND A ONE-TIME SETUP OF $3,000.

THANK YOU, CHAIRMAN, FOR THE DETAILED INFORMATION IN THAT PACKET.

>> I WOULD SECOND THAT DETAILED MOTION.

>> IT WAS MOVED BY DOUG AND SECONDED BY CONNIE.

ANY OTHER DISCUSSION? ALL THOSE IN FAVOR?

>> AYE.

>> ANY OPPOSED? CARRIES THERE. SHERMAN, THANK YOU.

OUR FINAL ITEM ON QUALITY FACILITIES AND RESOURCES IS A PROPOSAL TO ENTER INTO A THREE-YEAR AGREEMENT FOR SOME NEWS SOFTWARE TO HELP WITH PUBLIC RECORDS REQUESTS.

[01:10:04]

WE KNOW THAT WHEN WE GET, ESPECIALLY SOME OF THOSE BIGGER PUBLIC RECORDS REQUEST THAT TAKES A LOT OF STAFF TIME.

THIS WILL JUST HELP TO MAKE THAT PROCESS MORE EFFICIENT.

DOREEN, I DON'T KNOW IF THERE'S ANYTHING ELSE YOU WANTED TO ADD TO THAT. THANK YOU.

>> I'LL MOVE TO APPROVE THE GRACIOUS GOVERNMENT QA THREE-YEAR AGREEMENT FOR A TOTAL OF $14,501.50.

>> I WILL SECOND THAT.

>> IT WAS MOVED BY ERICA, AND SECONDED BY TRACEY.

ANY FURTHER DISCUSSION? ALL THOSE IN FAVOR?

>> AYE.

>> ANY OPPOSED? MOTION CARRIES THERE.

THAT BRINGS US TO THE END OF OUR REGULAR MEETING.

WE WILL NOT BE MEETING IN EXECUTIVE SESSION, SO I WILL ADJOURN OUR REGULAR MEETING AT 06:41 PM.

THANK YOU, AND HAVE A GOOD NIGHT [NOISE].
