>> ALL RIGHT, WE'RE GOING TO GO AHEAD AND GET STARTED HERE.

[1. School Board Workshop - 4:30 PM]

WELCOME TO OUR JANUARY 9TH WORKSHOP.

IT IS 4:30.

WE ARE GOING TO START THINGS OFF WITH OUR MTSS UPDATE FROM SHARI GOMEZ CLARK, UNLESS DR. ANSELON YOU HAD ANYTHING YOU WANT TO SAY AT THE BEGINNING?

>> JUST BRIEFLY. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ALL OF US COMING TOGETHER.

IT'S DEFINITELY BEEN A ROLLER COASTER WEEK AROUND HERE AND AROUND THE COUNTRY.

JUST SO HAPPY TO HAVE SHEREE HERE WITH US.

SHEREE, YOU'VE BEEN JUST AN AMAZING ADDITION TO OUR TEAM HERE, COMING OVER FROM WASHINGTON BRINGING BOTH THE SCHOOL-BASED EXPERIENCE AND NOW THIS WEALTH OF KNOWLEDGE AROUND MTSS.

I FEEL SOMETIMES LIKE WE JUST POINT TO SHEREE, "HEY, WHAT DO WE NEED?" SHEREE IS A JUST A GREAT PERSON TO HAVE.

I THINK THE BOARD, YOU'LL BE VERY EXCITED ABOUT WHAT YOU HEAR TODAY.

SHEREE THANK YOU SO MUCH.

>> ALL RIGHT, AM I GOOD?

>> YEAH.

>> ALL RIGHT. I'M LEARNING.

FIRST OF ALL, I JUST WANTED TO SAY, THANK YOU FOR HAVING ME HERE TONIGHT.

I'M VERY EXCITED TO BE HERE AND BE IN FRONT OF YOU ALL.

I HAVEN'T GOTTEN A CHANCE TO REALLY GET TO KNOW EACH OF YOU YET.

I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO THAT DURING MY TIME.

WE KNOW THAT JANUARY IS SCHOOL BOARD APPRECIATION MONTH.

WE JUST WANT TO GIVE A SHOUT OUT AND SAY THANK YOU FOR SERVING.

THAT'S NOT AN EASY JOB IN THE LAST FEW YEARS HAVE BEEN INCREDIBLY DIFFICULT AND CHALLENGING.

THANK YOU FOR TAKING YOUR TIME AWAY FROM YOUR FAMILIES, YOUR JOBS, AND ALL THE OTHER STUFF YOU DO TO BE HERE TO HELP SERVE OUR COMMUNITY.

THANK YOU FOR THAT. WELL, LET'S DIG INTO IT.

MULTI-TIERED SYSTEM OF SUPPORTS, I'M SHEREE GOMEZ CLARK, AS YOU KNOW, NEW TO CAMAS SCHOOL DISTRICT, BUT VERY EXCITED TO BE HERE AND TELL YOU JUST A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THE WORK THAT WE'RE DOING.

WHAT'S REALLY GREAT ABOUT THESE OPPORTUNITIES TO BE ABLE TO PRESENT IN THIS FASHION IS SOMETIMES, WHEN WE GET INTO THE DAY-TO-DAY, IT'S LIKE, I STILL GOT TO DO THIS.

I STILL GOT TO DO THAT. WE'RE NOT DOING ENOUGH.

WE'VE GOT TO DO THIS. THIS REALLY PROVIDES US THE OPPORTUNITY TO REFLECT AND GO BACK AND BE LIKE, "WOW, WE REALLY DO HAVE A LOT OF PEOPLE THAT ARE DOING A LOT OF REALLY GREAT THINGS, AND WE'RE MOVING THE WORK FORWARD." THIS IS GREAT TIMING.

TONIGHT WE'RE GOING TO DO JUST A SNAPSHOT OF MULTI-TIERED SYSTEMS OF SUPPORT.

THE MTSS CONTINUUM OF SUPPORTS, WHAT WE'VE BEEN UP TO AND WHERE WE'RE GOING.

THE FIRST THING WE'LL START WITH IS OUR PROBLEM OF PRACTICE AND OUR THEORY OF ACTION AROUND MTSS.

WE BELIEVE THAT IF WE BUILD A COMPREHENSIVE MULTI-TIERED SYSTEM OF SUPPORT THAT IS BUILT ON A FOUNDATION OF EVIDENCE-BASED PRACTICES SUCH AS UNIVERSAL DESIGN FOR LEARNING AND CULTURALLY RELEVANT PRACTICES, THEN WE WILL REACH OUR VISION TO SEE AND SERVE EACH STUDENT.

ONE OF THE THINGS THAT WE KNOW ABOUT PUBLIC EDUCATION IS WE CAN HAVE A GAZILLION INITIATIVES GOING AT ONE TIME.

WHENEVER WE HAVE INITIATIVES THAT WE'RE PUSHING FORWARD, THERE'S TYPICALLY A REASON FOR IT.

WE SEE A NEED THAT WE AREN'T ADDRESSING OR HASN'T BEEN ADDRESSED WHERE WE SEE A DEMOGRAPHIC OF STUDENTS THAT ARE NOT AS FAR AS THEIR PEERS.

ALL OF THOSE REASONS LEAD TO THESE INITIATIVES.

I'M HERE IN CAMAS SCHOOL DISTRICT IN WASHINGTON STATE.

WE KNOW THAT SOME OF THOSE INITIATIVES LOOK LIKE A FOCUS ON SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING, PROFESSIONAL LEARNING COMMUNITIES, POSITIVE BEHAVIOR INTERVENTION SYSTEMS, OR PBIS, INCLUSIONARY PRACTICES, RESPONSE TO INTERVENTION, CULTURALLY RESPONSIVE PRACTICES, UNIVERSAL DESIGN FOR LEARNING.

THESE ARE ALL COMPONENTS, AND OF COURSE, THE LITERACY ASPECT.

THESE ARE ALL COMPONENTS AND INITIATIVES AT WASHINGTON STATE HAS SAID, HEY, WE REALLY GOT TO FOCUS ON THIS, IN ORDER FOR US TO MEET EACH OF OUR STUDENTS.

BUT WHAT CAN OFTEN HAPPEN IN EDUCATION THAT WE SEE ARE A LOT OF FALSE STARTS.

WE DO OUR BEST, WE DO OUR VERY BEST TO BE ABLE TO TRAIN OUR FOLKS THAT NEED TO DO IT AND PUT THESE INITIATIVES IN PLACE AND CARRY OUT THE WORK.

BUT IF WE DON'T REALLY HAVE A SOLID FOUNDATION IN A WAY FOR IDENTIFYING IF OUR SYSTEM IS READY OR NOT, THEN WE'RE NOT GOING TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN IT.

SOMETIMES THAT'S WHERE CHANGE CAN BE HARD FOR THOSE OF US WHEN EDUCATION TICKS WERE LIKE, "MY GOSH, ONE MORE THING." WE DIDN'T EVEN FINISH THAT.

THE GOAL IN THIS POSITION WITH THE MTSS POSITION IS TO REALLY BE ABLE TO HELP AND PUT ALL THOSE PIECES TOGETHER AND IDENTIFY A REALLY STRONG FOUNDATION OF A SYSTEM SO THAT WE CAN APPROACH THE WORK AND MAKE ADJUSTMENTS AS WE NEED TO AND HAVE POSITIVE STUDENT OUTCOMES.

THIS IS OUR SNAPSHOT OF MTSS.

SO A LOT OF TIMES WE SAY WE'RE DOING MTSS OR WE'RE GOING TO DO MTSS, OR WHAT DO WE NEED TO DO TO GET THROUGH MTSS? THE REALITY IS, THE MTSS ISN'T A THING THAT WE DO.

[00:05:04]

IT'S A SYSTEM, AND IT'S A WAY FOR US TO SCREEN HOW ARE WE IDENTIFYING THE NEEDS OF OUR STUDENTS WHEN WE'RE NOT SEEING PROGRESS FROM THEM.

IS THERE A WAY FOR US TO IDENTIFY THAT EARLY SO THAT PREVENTATIVE WORK? RATHER THAN BEING ALWAYS IN THAT REACTIVE SPOT.

OUR SYSTEM WILL HELP US SCREEN AND IDENTIFY WHAT THOSE NEEDS ARE EARLIER SO WE CAN CAPTURE STUDENTS EARLIER.

THEN HOW ARE WE GOING TO RESPOND IF WE'RE IDENTIFYING STUDENTS, WHETHER THEY NEED ACADEMIC, SOCIAL, EMOTIONAL, OR OTHER SUPPORTS, WE IDENTIFY A NEED.

HOW ARE WE GOING TO RESPOND? THEN HOW ARE WE GOING TO KNOW THAT WHAT WE'RE DOING IS WORKING? THIS HAS BEEN IN MY EXPERIENCE IN EDUCATION, THIS HAS BEEN WHERE WE STRUGGLED THE MOST.

WE SEE THE NEED.

WE TRIED TO RESPOND TO THE NEED, BUT THEN WHAT? IF IT'S NOT WORKING, DO WE JUST STOP DOING IT, OR DO WE MAKE ADJUSTMENTS? THE MONITOR PART OF MTSS IS REALLY GOING TO ALLOW US TO SEE IF THIS IS WORKING.

THIS IS GREAT. WE'RE GOING TO KEEP MOVING.

OR WAIT, WE'RE STILL NOT SEEING THE PROGRESS WE WANT TO DO.

WE NEED TO ADJUST AND REFINE, AND MAKE SOME CHANGES.

THEN THAT'S GOING TO LEAVE TO THE IMPROVE PORTION OF THE SYSTEM.

THIS ISN'T JUST FOR INTERVENTIONS.

THIS IS FOR ANY INITIATIVE THAT WE WOULD MOVE FORWARD, AS WE'RE LOOKING AT OUR WORK IN EQUITY, AS WE'RE LOOKING AT OUR WORK WITH UNIVERSAL DESIGN FOR LEARNING, AND OUR LITERACY WORK THAT WE'RE DOING AT THE ELEMENTARY LEVEL.

ALL OF THOSE COMPONENTS WILL FALL UNDER THE SAME SYSTEM SO THAT WE CAN IDENTIFY EARLY WHEN THINGS ARE WORKING OR NOT WORKING.

IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS ALONG THE WAY, PLEASE FEEL FREE.

IT'S REALLY HARD TO PUT THIS IN LIKE, 15 MINUTES, AND THERE'S A LOT OF INFORMATION.

[LAUGHTER] NOW, HOW DO WE GO ABOUT DOING THAT WORK? WELL, THERE ARE ESSENTIAL COMPONENTS OF A MULTI-TIERED SYSTEM OF SUPPORT.

I'M TEAM-DRIVEN AND SHARED LEADERSHIP.

EVEN THOUGH I AM THE COORDINATOR, I GET TO SERVE AS A COORDINATOR FOR MTSS.

I DON'T GO IN AND DO THE WORK.

WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT WE'RE BUILDING CAPACITY WITHIN OUR DISTRICT LEVEL LEADERS ARE BUILDING LEADERS, OUR TEACHERS, AND ALL OF OUR STAFF THROUGH THIS WORK.

HOW ARE WE SHARING THAT LEADERSHIP AMONGST US ALL? DATABASE DECISION-MAKING.

IF WE HAVE TO KNOW WHAT WE'RE WORKING WITH IN ORDER TO BE ABLE TO IMPROVE WHAT WE'RE DOING, SO WE NEED TO HAVE THE DATA AND THE INFORMATION TO TELL US THE STORY OF WHAT'S HAPPENING.

ONE OF THE BIGGEST COMPONENTS AS THE FAMILY, STUDENTS, AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT, I CAN THINK ALL DAY LONG ABOUT WHAT I THINK IS GOING TO BE BEST FOR STUDENTS.

BUT IF I'M THE ONLY PERSON MAKING THAT DECISION, OR WE'RE THE ONLY PEOPLE AT DISTRICT OFFICE MAKING THOSE DECISIONS, WE DON'T HAVE FAMILY VOICE, STUDENT VOICE, AND COMMUNITY VOICE, AND THOSE ARE REALLY CRITICAL COMPONENTS TO THIS WORK.

THEN THE CONTINUUM OF SUPPORTS.

IT'S NOT A ONE-AND-DONE WHEN WE PUT INTERVENTIONS IN PLACE.

IT'S NOT LIKE, HEY, TAKE THIS PILL, EVERYTHING, THIS IS THE MAGIC WAND.

EVERYTHING IS GOING TO BE BETTER, THAT WERE THE CASE, I WOULDN'T BE SITTING HERE RIGHT NOW.

WHAT'S THE CONTINUUM OF SUPPORTS THAT WE'RE DOING? ALSO IDENTIFYING THAT IN BUILDINGS THE NEED IS GOING TO BE DIFFERENT.

WHAT THAT NEED MIGHT BE AT HAYES'S FREEDOM COULD LOOK DIFFERENT THAN WHAT IT'S GOING TO LOOK LIKE AT CAMAS HIGH SCHOOL.

IT'S GOING TO LOOK DIFFERENT BETWEEN, HELEN BALLARD, AND PRUNE HILL.

WE HAVE TO MAKE SURE THAT THOSE CONTINUUM OF SUPPORTS FITS THE NEED, THE COMMUNITY AND THE STUDENT DEMOGRAPHIC OF EACH OF OUR SCHOOLS.

THEN EVIDENCE-BASED PRACTICES.

THIS IS WHERE WE REALLY WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT THIS IS A GOOD PLACE FOR US, WHERE WE WOULD SAY LESS IS MORE.

LOOKING AT THOSE EVIDENCE-BASED PRACTICES WERE NOT JUST PULLING A RANDOM LIKE I'VE BEEN DOING THIS LESSON FOR THE LAST 25 YEARS OF MY TEACHING CAREER.

IS THAT EVIDENCE-BASED? IS THAT THE BEST APPROACH TO GO ABOUT THAT? WHAT WE WANT TO DO IS WE WANT OUR TEACHERS AND LEADERS TO BE ABLE TO BE PRESENT AND IN THEIR BUILDING AND WORKING WITH STUDENTS AND FAMILIES.

PART OF WHAT I GET TO DO IN THIS ROLE IS REALLY LOOKING AT WHAT SOME OF THOSE STRATEGIES AND PRACTICES THAT WE'RE DOING DIGGING IN.

IS IT EVIDENCE-BASED? IS IT RESEARCH-BASED? THEN HELPING TO MAKE DECISIONS THROUGH A DECISION-MAKING PROCESS IN THAT WAY.

HOW MUCH TIME DO I HAVE? GREAT. [LAUGHTER] WE'RE GOING TO DO A LITTLE ACTIVITY HERE IN JUST A SECOND, SO I'M SURE YOU'VE ALL AT SOME POINT SEEN THE PYRAMID OF INTERVENTIONS.

WHAT I APPRECIATE ABOUT THIS PYRAMID OF INTERVENTION IS IT REALLY ALLOWS YOU TO SEE THAT THAT TIER 1 SUPPORT.

THOSE ARE SUPPORTS AND STRATEGIES THAT WE USE FOR EVERY SINGLE STUDENT IN OUR BUILDING AND SHOULD HAVE ACCESS TO ALL OF THIS NO MATTER WHAT YOUR DEMOGRAPHIC IS,

[00:10:04]

WHAT TYPE OF LEARNER YOU ARE, YOU SHOULD HAVE ACCESS TO ALL OF THESE TIER-1 SUPPORTS.

WHAT I LIKE ABOUT THIS IS THIS ONE SHOWS YOU HOW IT'S LAYERED.

FOR EXAMPLE, IF WE SEE A STUDENT IN AN ALGEBRA CLASS AND WE'RE LIKE, WELL, THIS KIDDO NEEDS A LITTLE BIT OF SUPPORT.

THEY DIDN'T REALLY QUITE GET THIS CONCEPT OR THIS UNDERSTANDING.

THE TEACHER IS THEN GOING TO MAKE A DECISION TO SAY, HEY, WE NEED TO DO A LITTLE BIT MORE WORK IN THIS AREA.

NOW THAT SAME STUDENT MIGHT RESPOND VERY WELL TO THAT LITTLE BIT OF INTERVENTION THAT'S HAPPENING IN THE CLASSROOM.

HOWEVER, WITH READING, THERE'S STILL REALLY STRUGGLING AND THEY NEED A LOT OF SUPPORT.

THEY'RE RECEIVING TIER 1 SUPPORTS IN MATH.

BUT THEY NEED TO HAVE TIER-3 REALLY INDIVIDUALIZED SUPPORT FOR MAYBE LITERACY.

THOSE THINGS CAN ALL BE HAPPENING AND SHOULD BE HAPPENING TOGETHER.

THIS ISN'T, YOU MOVE FROM ONE LEVEL TO THE OTHER.

THIS IS JUST IN RESPONSE, SO IT'S CYCLICAL.

IF THAT STUDENT THAT NEEDED TO GO TO TIER 2 AND RECEIVE SOME ADDITIONAL SUPPORTS, THE IDEAS THAT THEY'D RECEIVE THOSE MORE TARGETED INTERVENTIONS AND SUPPORTS, AND THEN BE BACK INTO THAT TIER-1 PHASE.

YOU DON'T SIT IN ONE PHASE AND JUST RECEIVE INTERVENTIONS. YEAH?

>> YOU GO FROM TIER-1 TO TIER-2 AND 3 OR YOU NEED TO STOP AT LEAST?

>> IDEALLY, YOU SCAFFOLD UP.

IF YOU'RE IDENTIFYING A PROBLEM, THINK OF IT IN THE HEALTH.

IF YOU'VE GOT A LITTLE BIT OF A SCRATCHY THROAT OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT, YOU'D PROBABLY GO TO YOUR PRIMARY CARE PHYSICIAN, THEY MIGHT SAY, HEY, GAGGLE SOME SALTWATER, WHATEVER, IF IT DOESN'T GET BETTER, CALL ME.

BUT IF YOU'RE HAVING A HARD TIME BREATHING, IF YOUR SYMPTOMS ARE REALLY BAD, THEY MIGHT BE LIKE YOU GOT TO GO TO URGENT CARE.

IT'S VERY SIMILAR IN EDUCATION AND THAT'S WHAT WE ALSO WANT TO COACH OUR TEACHERS ON.

IS THIS A CLASSROOM BASED INTERVENTION OR DO WE NEED TO GET THIS SPECIALISTS TO COME SEE YOU? DID THAT HELP?

>> YEAH.

>> EXCELLENT. HERE'S OUR ACTIVITY.

JUST A PERSONAL REFLECTION.

ALL OF US AND ALL THE THINGS THAT WE DO, WE LIVE IN THESE TIERED SUPPORTS.

FOR ME, YOU'LL SEE IN THERE THAT I PUT SOME PERSONAL THINGS IN THERE.

ON TIER-1 TRAVELING, COOKING, AND PARTY PLANNING.

THOSE ARE THINGS I DON'T NEED HELP WITH.

I MIGHT NEED TO REACH OUT AND GET SOME ADVICE ON THIS OR THAT, OR I MIGHT NEED TO LOOK UP A RECIPE.

THAT DOESN'T MEAN I'M A GREAT COOK.

IT JUST MEANS I LOVED DOING IT AND I'LL TRY AND FIGURE IT OUT ON MY OWN.

ANYBODY'S GUESS WHAT MIGHT COME OUT OF BAND? WHO KNOWS? BUT WITH TRAVEL, LIKE STATE TRAVEL, I DON'T NEED A WHOLE LOT OF HELP WITH THAT.

IF I'M TRAVELING WITHIN THE STATES, ESPECIALLY STATES I'VE VISITED BEFORE, I USED TO BE A TRAVEL AGENT, SO I FEEL REAL COMFORTABLE WITH THIS.

HOWEVER, TIER-2 FOR ME, I'M REALLY TRYING MEDITATION AND YOGA, BUT MY BRAIN GOES A LITTLE SIDE LIKE I START THINKING ABOUT THINGS.

I HAVE A REAL HARD TIME JUST FOCUSING IN.

SOMETIMES I GET A LITTLE BORED WITH YOGA AND I'M LIKE I JUST WANT TO GO TO SLEEP.

THAT MIGHT BE SOMETHING IF THAT'S SOMETHING THAT I REALLY WANT TO DO, I'M CONNECTING WITH OTHER PEOPLE.

I NEED A LITTLE MORE HELP.

YOU DO THIS ALL THE TIME.

GIVE ME SOME STRATEGIES WITH THAT.

FOR TRAVEL, I MIGHT NOT FEEL AS COMFORTABLE WITH INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL.

I MIGHT NEED TO SEEK OUT A TRAVEL AGENT TO HELP ME WITH THAT JUST BECAUSE I'M NOT AS FAMILIAR WITH THE AREA, EVEN THOUGH I FEEL PRETTY CONFIDENT IN PLANNING TRAVEL, AND THEN AT TIER 3, I CANNOT BACKUP A TRAILER TO SAVE MY LIFE.

IN FACT, WE HAD TO GET RID OF OUR BOAT AT ONE TIME BECAUSE MY HUSBAND NOR I COULD FIGURE OUT HOW TO BACK IT UP.

WE NEED THE PEOPLE AT THE RAMP TO COME AND HELP US AND THEY GET GRUMPY TOO.

THEY ARE NOT VERY KIND ABOUT IT.

THEN WE GO TO THE FINE, WE'RE JUST GOING TO, I GIVE UP.

JUST GOING TO GET RID OF THE BOAT AND WE'RE GOING TO BE FINE.

IMAGINE HOW SOMETIMES OUR STUDENTS CAN FEEL LIKE THAT TOO.

I'VE GOT MEAN, I'VE LITERALLY KILLED A DEAD PLANT OR A FAKE PLANT BEFORE.

LIKE IT'S JUST NOT MY THING.

LIKE I NEED ALL SORTS OF SUPPORT WITH THAT AND A MULTI-COUNTRY TRAVEL.

IF I WERE TO GO TO SEVERAL DIFFERENT COUNTRIES, I'D NEED A LOT OF SUPPORT WITH THAT.

AGAIN, IT'S SOMETHING I'VE GOT A GOOD FOUNDATIONAL SKILL FOR, BUT I'M GOING TO NEED A LOT OF SUPPORT IN SOMETHING LIKE THAT.

THIS JUST GIVES YOU A REAL PERSONAL REFLECTION ON WHAT THOSE TIERS LOOKED LIKE.

FOR JUST A SECOND WE'RE GOING TO TAKE A MINUTE AND I WANT YOU TO JOT DOWN SOMETHING THAT WOULD BE A TIER-1 FOR YOU, A TIER-2 FOR YOU AND A TIER-3, SO JUST TAKE A FEW MINUTES TO DO THAT REAL QUICK.

[00:15:12]

WE'VE GOT ABOUT 10 MORE SECONDS.

WILL SOMEBODY LIKE TO SHARE WHAT THEY WROTE DOWN?

>> I HAVE A DOG THEME, WHICH WORKS WELL WITH THIS GROUP, TIER-1, WALKING MY DOG.

I CAN WALK MY DOG THE BEST OF THEM.

GENERAL DOG TRAINING I NEED A LITTLE HELP, TRAINING MY DOG TO BE A SERVICE DOG I WOULD NEED TIER-3 SUPPORT.

>> EXCELLENT. [LAUGHTER] VERY SOLID.

[LAUGHTER] [BACKGROUND]

>> ERIKA, TELL US WHAT THEME YOU WENT WITH.

[BACKGROUND]

>> I WENT WITH A SPORTS THEME, TIER-1, MY GOLF KNOWLEDGE AND WHAT I KNOW WHAT TO DO.

I CAN HELP OUT WITH THAT. WHAT IS GOING ON TODAY? [BACKGROUND] TEST, TEST 1, 2, 3. CHECK. [LAUGHTER] STILL?

>> YOU'RE OKAY.

>> I LIKE IT.

>> YOU'RE OKAY.

>> IT'S SUPER BAD THOUGH.

>> [BACKGROUND].

>> JUST TALK AGAIN.

>> WELL, TIER 2, I DIDN'T GET TO BECAUSE I WASN'T LIKE, WHAT'S MY, THERE WE GO, WHAT WAS MY IN-BETWEEN HER THAT I KNOW, MAYBE BASKETBALL, I KNOW THOSE POSITIONS BUT I CAN'T AND GUESS WHAT? I KNOW HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE SUPPOSED TO BE ON THE FIELD AND THAT'S IT.

I COUNT THEM REALLY QUICK.

WELL, THERE'S A FLAG, 11 BECAUSE WE'RE THE 12TH MAN.

>> YEAH.

>> THANK YOU, SEAHAWKS.

[LAUGHTER]

>> WELL, THANK YOU FOR DOING THAT EXERCISE WITH ME.

AS YOU CAN IMAGINE FOR TEACHERS, IF THEY'RE 15-35 THAT MIGHT BE IN THEIR CLASS, THEN AS YOU GET THOSE IN THE SECONDARY LEVEL, THE MORE STUDENTS THEY HAVE, THE HARDER IT MIGHT BE FOR THEM TO BE ABLE TO IDENTIFY EXACTLY WHERE STUDENTS ARE AT.

IT'S NOT THE SOLE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE TEACHER, IT'S THE WHOLE SYSTEM'S RESPONSIBILITY AND TO BE ABLE TO IDENTIFY THAT.

THE HOPE IS THAT, I SHOULDN'T SAY THE HOPE, BUT THE RESEARCH TELLS US THAT HAVING THOSE SYSTEMS IN PLACE WHERE WE CAN SCREEN AND IDENTIFY STUDENTS EARLY ON, THAT'S GOING TO HELP OUR TEACHERS BECAUSE THEN OUR STUDENTS AREN'T GETTING SO FAR BEHIND THAT THERE'S A LOT MORE CATCH UP, AND THAT GAP JUST CONTINUES TO GET WIDER AND WIDER.

BEING ABLE TO LOOK AT THIS AND TEACHERS, AND BEING ABLE TO HAVE THE SKILLS AND THE TOOLS AND THE RESOURCES AND THE SYSTEM TO BE ABLE TO HELP IDENTIFY WHERE OUR STUDENTS ARE AT AND THEIR NEEDS ARE AT CAN HELP US LIVE IN THAT GREEN TIER 1 SUPPORT AREA FOR THE MAJORITY OF THE TIME.

HOW ARE WE GOING TO DO THAT? THAT'S THE BIG QUESTION.

I'M EXCITED TO SHARE THAT WE HAVE BEEN SLOWLY WORKING ON WHAT OUR MTSS IMPLEMENTATION PLAN WILL LOOK LIKE.

NOW, IT'S BEEN A LITTLE BIT OF MESSY WORK.

THIS IS A NEW POSITION, I'M LEARNING THE NEW DISTRICT, I'M LEARNING ALL OF OUR FOLKS WITHIN THE DISTRICT.

WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT WE'RE SETTING GOALS THAT ARE ACHIEVABLE AND THAT ARE NEEDED BUT WE'RE ALSO ADDRESSING NEEDS BECAUSE WE CAN SAY WE'VE GOT A FIVE-YEAR PLAN FOR THIS.

HOWEVER, OUR STUDENTS, WE CAN'T GO TELL OUR LITTLE THIRD GRADER, GIVE US FIVE YEARS, WE'LL GET THERE.

WE HAVE NEEDS THAT WE NEED TO ALSO ADDRESS RIGHT NOW.

WE HAVE A COUPLE OF GOALS THAT WE'RE WORKING ON FOR THIS YEAR.

REALLY THE FIRST ONE WAS TO ASSEMBLE A DISTRICT IMPLEMENTATION TEAM, AND THAT TEAM HAS ALREADY COMPLETED WHAT WE CALL OUR DISTRICT CAPACITY ASSESSMENT AND WE'LL TALK ABOUT THAT IN JUST A FEW MINUTES.

WE NEED OUR BUILDING LEADERS TO HAVE A CLEAR UNDERSTANDING OF WHAT MTSS IS AND ITS COMPONENTS.

WE HAVE A LOT OF DIFFERENT UNDERSTANDING, SOME MISCONCEPTIONS SOME GAPS JUST WITHIN THE ADULTS IN THE SYSTEM AND THAT'S VERY, VERY TYPICAL FOR EDUCATION.

WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT WE'RE USING THE COMMON KNOWLEDGE OR THAT WE HAVE COMMON TERMS,

[00:20:02]

COMMON TERMINOLOGY, AND BET THE SAME UNDERSTANDING OF WHAT THE SYSTEMS ARE GOING TO LOOK LIKE TEAMING PROCESSES, THOSE TYPES OF THINGS.

THAT'S A LOT OF THE WORK THAT WE'RE DOING RIGHT NOW AS WELL.

COMPLETE OR BE READY TO COMPLETE OUR TIERED FIDELITY INVENTORIES FOR TIER 1 TEAMS WITHIN OUR BUILDINGS, AND WHAT WE REALLY WANT TO HAVE IS THAT EACH SCHOOL HAS A TIER 1 TEAM BY THE END OF THIS YEAR READY TO GO NEXT YEAR.

NOW THE REALITY IS, IS THAT ALL OF OUR SCHOOLS DO HAVE SOME TEAMING PROCESS FOR IDENTIFYING STUDENTS NEEDS.

THEY'RE ALREADY DOING ALL THIS WORK, AND SO WHAT WE WANT TO DO IS WE WANT TO BE ABLE TO SAY, IT'S NOT ONE MORE THING.

WE'RE GOING TO LOOK AT YOUR STRENGTHS, WE'RE GOING TO LOOK AT WHAT YOU'RE ALREADY DOING AND THEN WE'RE GOING TO BUILD AND REFINE FROM THAT.

BECAUSE THAT HAS BEEN THE BIGGEST FEEDBACK IS THAT I CAN'T DO ONE MORE THING AND THAT'S A VERY, VERY VALID AND VERY FAIR.

WE WANT TO TAKE OFF THE THINGS THAT WE DON'T NEED TO BE DOING ANYMORE, AND WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT WE REFINING THE THINGS THAT ARE GOING WELL. YEAH.

>> DOES THE INVENTORY LOOK THE SAME FOR EACH SCHOOL? THAT WHAT WE WANT TO HAVE IT BE SIMILAR ACROSS THE BOARD OR BECAUSE OF DIFFERENT NEEDS AND DIFFERENT THINGS THAT THEY'VE BEEN DOING SINCE THAT CAN BE DIFFERENT?

>> THAT'S A REALLY GREAT QUESTION.

THE ANSWER IS THAT THE TIERED FIDELITY INVENTORY, WHEN WE'RE LOOKING AT THOSE INTERVENTION INVENTORY OR THE TFI WHICH WILL TELL US HOW WE'RE TEAMING AND DOING THOSE THINGS, THAT IN OF ITSELF IS THE SAME.

THE TFI OR THE INVENTORY IS THE SAME ACROSS THE BUILDING OR ACROSS THE DISTRICT, ACTUALLY ACROSS THE STATE.

THE REASON FOR THAT IS BECAUSE THAT TELLS US THE COMPONENTS AND THE MAKE-UPS AND THE THINGS THAT WE SHOULD BE DOING WITHIN OUR TEAMS. WHAT IS DIFFERENT AND WHERE THE DIFFERENTIATION COMES IN IS, FOR EXAMPLE HAYES FREEDOM, THEY HAVE A SMALLER GROUP OF TEACHERS, THEY'RE TEAMING ITSELF MIGHT LOOK A LITTLE BIT DIFFERENT, BUT THEY'RE STILL GOING TO HAVE A WAY FOR IDENTIFYING STUDENTS, THEY'RE STILL GOING TO HAVE A WAY FOR MAKING SURE THAT THEY'RE USING DATA TO INFORM THEIR DECISION-MAKING, THOSE COMPONENTS ARE GOING TO BE THE SAME IN IT.

BUT THEY CAN BUILD THAT TEAM, HOWEVER, THE NEEDS ARE IN THEIR BUILDING.

DOES THAT MAKE SENSE? OKAY. THEN THE TIERED FIDELITY INVENTORY, WHEN WE TALK ABOUT THAT, THAT'S NOT SO MUCH ABOUT THE STUDENTS, IT'S MORE ABOUT THE ADULTS IN THE SYSTEM AND MAKING SURE THAT WE'RE HOLDING OURSELVES ACCOUNTABLE TO THE PROCESS AND THE SYSTEM.

OUR BIG THING THAT WE WANTED TO GET DONE THIS YEAR WAS OUR DISTRICT IMPLEMENTATION TEAM, AND YOU'LL SEE ON THE NEXT COUPLE OF SLIDES SOME OF THE WORK THAT WE'VE BEEN DOING THAT.

WE HAVE DEVELOPED OUR DISTRICT IMPLEMENTATION TEAM.

WE WILL ALSO BE BUILDING OUR BUILDING IMPLEMENTATION TEAMS, PROVIDING SOME LEADERSHIP AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AROUND THAT.

SORRY, THE WORDS ARE GETTING HARD NOW.

[LAUGHTER] WE HAVE COMPLETED THE DISTRICT CAPACITY ASSESSMENT, WE'RE GOING TO IDENTIFY AREAS OF STRENGTH AND OPPORTUNITIES FOR GROWTH.

I DEVELOP THAT IMPLEMENTATION PLAN AND ALIGNMENT WITH OUR STRATEGIC PLAN, WHICH I KNOW DR. ANSELON IS WORKING ON WITH YOU-ALL AND ANOTHER TEAM.

THEN WE ALSO NEED TO REVIEW OUR CURRENT POLICIES AND ALIGN THOSE TO OUR NEXT STEPS.

ARE TIERED FIDELITY INVENTORY? WE'VE DONE THIS IN A COUPLE OF OUR SCHOOLS.

HELEN BALLARD JUST COMPLETED THE READING TFI BECAUSE THEY HAVE BEEN BOOTS ON THE GROUND WITH THE READING TFI AND IT WAS SUCH A FANTASTIC PROCESS TO WORK WITH THAT TEAM AND SEE WHERE THEY'RE AT AS FAR AS THE READING FIDELITY IS GOING AND HOW THAT'S GOING THERE.

THAT'S BEEN AN EXTREMELY AWESOME THING.

WE'RE GOING TO BE MEETING WITH THEM AGAIN SOON.

LIBERTY MIDDLE-SCHOOL BACK IN AUGUST.

ACTUALLY, THEY'RE LIKE, LET'S DO THE POSITIVE BEHAVIOR INTERVENTION SYSTEM, TIER 1, TFI, LET'S JUST JUMP IN AND GET IT DONE.

WE'VE BEEN WORKING WITH THEM AND THAT REALLY HELPED THEM ALIGN WHAT THEIR NEXT STEPS ARE DOING WITH THE TFI IN THAT SENSE.

THEN REALLY, PERSONALLY, I'VE BEEN JUST TRYING TO CONNECT WITH BUILDING LEADERS, WITH BUILDINGS, GETTING INTO THE BUILDINGS, GETTING TO KNOW SOME OF OUR STUDENTS.

I HAVE BEEN WORKING WITH SOME OF OUR FAMILIES ALREADY WHERE SOME NEEDS HAVE COME UP BECAUSE I GET TO SERVE AS THE 504 COORDINATOR, REALLY JUST LEARNING THE CULTURE AND THE COMMUNITY.

THAT'S BEEN ONE OF MY PERSONAL GOALS FOR THIS YEAR SO FAR.

I'M CONTINUING PD ACROSS SEVERAL BUILDINGS AND DISTRICT-WIDE.

HOPE TO ACTION HAS BEEN OR FROM HOPE TO ACTION.

OUR SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING DAY THAT WE HAD IN OCTOBER WAS JUST FANTASTIC AND WE GOT TO DO THAT.

SO THE SOCIAL EMOTIONAL COMPONENT COMING THERE.

[00:25:02]

THEN JUST CONTINUING THE WORK ACROSS OUR AD COUNCIL, OUR TEACHING AND LEARNING TEAM WORK REAL CLOSELY WITH KATY'S TITLE AND OUR EQUITY BECAUSE OUR JOBS JUST CONTINUED TO OVERLAPPING CONNECT.

THOSE ARE SOME OF THE BIG COMPONENTS THAT WE'VE BEEN WORKING ON.

THIS IS OUR DISTRICT IMPLEMENTATION TEAM AND THIS GRAPHIC IS FROM OSPI IN COLLABORATION WITH THE NATIONAL RESEARCH NETWORK WHO HAS PROVIDED AND DONE ALL OF THE RESEARCH AROUND OUR DISTRICT CAPACITY ASSESSMENT.

REALLY THAT JUST TELLS US WHETHER OR NOT WE'RE READY FOR IMPLEMENTATION.

WE KNOW THAT WE HAVE TO WORK WITH THE DISTRICT LEADERSHIP TEAM, BUILD CAPACITY, BUILD THAT DISTRICT IMPLEMENTATION TEAM, AND THEN WE'LL WORK WITH SCHOOL LEADERSHIP TEAMS, SCHOOL STAFF, AND THEN OUR STUDENTS ARE THE ONES THAT ARE GOING TO HAVE THOSE IMPROVED OUTCOMES THAT WE WANT TO SEE FROM THEM.

IT'S VERY SCAFFOLDED AND ALIGNED.

WE WANTED TO MAKE SURE THAT WE HAD A DIVERSE GROUP OF FOLKS ON OUR TEAM, BOTH ELEMENTARY, SECONDARY, DIFFERENT LEVELS OF EXPERIENCE BECAUSE EACH OF THEM BRINGS SOME GREAT EXPERIENCE TO THE TEAM.

THESE ARE THE FOLKS THAT HELPED US GET TO OUR DISTRICT CAPACITY ASSESSMENT BACK IN DECEMBER, LIKE IT WAS SO LONG AGO, LAST MONTH.

>> LAST YEAR.

>> [LAUGHTER] LAST YEAR, RIGHT. I'M GOING TO SHARE WITH YOU SOME OF THE RESULTS FROM OUR DISTRICT CAPACITY ASSESSMENT.

AGAIN, THIS IS REALLY TELLING US IF WE'RE READY FOR IMPLEMENTATION OF MULTI-TIERED SYSTEMS OF SUPPORT.

NOW YOU CAN SEE WE'RE SITTING RIGHT AT ABOUT 16, 17 PERCENT OF READINESS FOR DISTRICT CAPACITY, OR WE HAVE THE CAPACITY TO BE ABLE TO MOVE FORWARD WITH IMPLEMENTATION.

NOW THAT FEELS REALLY LOW.

IT'S NOT ACTUALLY THAT LOW.

WHAT IT TELLS US IS THESE ARE THE THINGS THAT WE HAVE IN PLACE ALREADY, AND IT HELPS US TO BE ABLE TO IDENTIFY WHERE WE NEED TO GO.

YOU'LL SEE TWO LINES THERE THAT ARE ACQUISITION AND FLUENCY.

OUR GOAL WOULD BE BETWEEN YEAR 1 AND YEAR 2 TO HIT THAT 60 PERCENT MARK AND OUR DISTRICT AND OUR DCA WILL DO THIS AGAIN DOWN THE ROAD IN A COUPLE OF MONTHS TO SEE WHERE WE'RE AT.

BUT OUR GOAL IS TO TRY TO HIT THAT MARK.

I DON'T THINK WE'RE GOING TO HAVE A PROBLEM IN SOME OF THE DIFFERENT AREAS TO BE ABLE TO HIT THAT 60 PERCENT, AND THEN BY FULL IMPLEMENTATION.

AFTER YEAR 3, WE SHOULD BE HITTING AROUND THAT 80 PERCENT. YEAH?

>> WHAT EXACTLY IS ON THE DECA.

IS IT LIKE A SURVEY OR IS IT LIKE AN EVALUATION OF A PROGRAM OR SOMETHING?

>> A GREAT QUESTION.

OH MY GOSH. I'M SO TERRIBLE WITH THIS MICROPHONE.

THIS NEXT SLIDE WILL ANSWER SOME OF THAT QUESTION.

IT'S GOING TO LOOK AT THREE FACTORS, SO ORGANIZATIONAL LEADERSHIP, COMPETENCY AND DATA SYSTEMS FOR DECISION MAKING.

WHEN WE LOOK AT THIS, YOU CAN SEE HOW OUR SCORES ARE BROKEN DOWN.

IT'S A SERIES OF QUESTIONS THAT I'M SAYS THINGS LIKE, DO YOU HAVE A TEAM COMPRISED OF FOLKS THAT REPRESENT DISTRICT LEADERSHIP BUILDING LEADERSHIP, AND CLASSROOM TEACHERS.

GREAT. YOU SCORE YOURSELF A ZERO, ONE OR TWO.

YOUR TWO, WE'RE HITTING IT.

WE'VE GOT THAT IN PLAY.

WE DON'T REALLY NEED TO WORRY ABOUT THAT ZERO, WE DON'T HAVE THAT YET.

THE TEAM GOES THROUGH AND SCORES TO SEE WHERE WE THINK WE'RE AT WITH THAT.

PART OF THOSE QUESTIONS ARE DO WE HAVE THE RESOURCES FOR IT? WHETHER THEY'RE ALREADY IN PLACE OR BUDGETING DOWN THE ROAD IN ORDER TO PUT SOME OF THESE THINGS IN PLACE, FOR EXAMPLE, LIKE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT FOR OUR STAFF.

IT'S GOING TO LOOK AT ALL OF THOSE COMPONENTS.

BECAUSE THE REALITY IS, IS WHENEVER WE DO IMPLEMENT SOMETHING, IT IS GOING TO COST MONEY.

WE ARE GOING TO NEED PEOPLE TO BE ABLE TO LEAD THAT WORK AND WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT WE HAVE THE FULL CAPACITY TO BE ABLE TO DO THAT OR WE'RE GOING TO HAVE A FALSE START AND IT'S JUST GOING TO BE THAT ONE MORE THING.

BUT THEN THE NEXT PART OF IT IS DATA SYSTEMS FOR DECISION MAKING.

ORGANIZATIONAL LEADERSHIP, THIS WAS AN AREA OF STRENGTH FOR US.

WE HAVE A DISTRICT LEADERSHIP THAT PHILOSOPHICALLY BELIEVES IN THE WORK DOING THIS.

WE HAVE PEOPLE ON THE TEAM WHO CAN MAKE DISTRICT DECISIONS, WHETHER THAT'S STAFFING OR YES, WE CAN DO PV ON THAT DAY AND WE'RE READY FOR THAT MOVE.

THAT WAS AN AREA OF STRENGTH, SO THAT MOST LIKELY WON'T BE AN AREA OR A GOAL AREA THAT WE LOOK AT.

NOW, COMPETENCY WAS ONE OF OUR BIGGEST AREAS OF OPPORTUNITY FOR GROWTH AND THE COMPETENCY PIECE IT DOESN'T MEAN THAT ANYBODY'S BAD AT THEIR JOB, IT JUST MEANS WHERE OUR SKILL SET AND OUR KNOWLEDGE.

LIKE I EXPLAINED EARLIER, WE HAVE DIFFERENT BELIEF SYSTEMS AROUND MTSS.

WE HAVE DIFFERENT IDEAS AROUND WHAT IT MEANS, AND THAT'S A GREAT THING FOR US TO KNOW GOING IN

[00:30:01]

BECAUSE THAT TELLS US WHERE WE NEED TO DO THE WORK.

THEN DATA SYSTEMS FOR DECISION-MAKING.

ONE OF THE THINGS THAT WE KNOW IS WE HAVE REALLY SOLID WAYS.

WE'LL LOOK AT SCREENERS, FOR EXAMPLE.

WE HAVE REALLY SOLID SCREENERS, ESPECIALLY FOR ELEMENTARY, MORE AT OUR MIDDLE SCHOOL, BUT OUR HIGH SCHOOLS, THAT'S AN AREA FOR US TO LOOK AT.

OUR SCREENERS AREN'T AS STRONG THERE.

IT'S A LITTLE BIT HARDER TO NAVIGATE ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU'RE GETTING INTO THE HIGH SCHOOL STAGES, SO WE KNOW THAT THAT'S AN OPPORTUNITY FOR GROWTH.

HOW ARE WE GOING TO ADDRESS THOSE THINGS MOVING FORWARD? THOSE ARE THE BIG THREE COMPONENTS THAT THE DISTRICT CAPACITY ASSESSMENT WILL TELL US. DID THAT ANSWER? EXCELLENT. WITH OUR DECA AND OUR NEXT STEPS, WE HAVE A MEETING COMING UP IN ANOTHER FEW WEEKS.

WE'LL REVIEW THOSE DECA RESULTS AND IDENTIFY WHAT OUR GOALS ARE MOVING FORWARD.

WE'LL CONTINUE TO PROVIDE ONGOING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AROUND SOCIAL-EMOTIONAL LEARNING, UNIVERSAL DESIGN FOR LEARNING, MULTI-TIERED SYSTEMS OF SUPPORT, AND OUR EQUITY WORK.

ALL OF THOSE COMPONENTS, ALL OF OUR INITIATIVES ACTUALLY FALL UNDER THE MTSS UMBRELLA, AND SO HELPING OUR STAFF AND OUR COMMUNITY UNDERSTAND THAT PROCESS WOULD BE A PART OF THAT AS WELL.

THEN WE'LL COMPLETE OUR MTSS-SPECIFIC READINESS INVENTORY.

THIS IS A LITTLE BIT DIFFERENT THAN JUST THE DISTRICT CAPACITY ASSESSMENT.

THIS IS LOOKING SOLELY AT MTSS.

WHAT BUILDINGS MIGHT NEED A LITTLE BIT MORE SUPPORT THAN OTHER BUILDINGS? WHAT ARE THE SPECIFIC NEEDS WITHIN EACH OF THOSE BUILDINGS? WHAT ARE WE ALREADY DOING? AGAIN, LIKE I HAD TALKED ABOUT, WHAT CAN WE TAKE OFF THE PLATE? JUST MOVING FORWARD WITH THAT.

THEN DEVELOPING OUR STRATEGIC PLAN AND MAKING SURE THAT'S ALIGNED WITH OUR DISTRICT STRATEGIC PLAN.

THAT WAS SO MUCH INFORMATION FOR YOU ALL.

AGAIN, I JUST WANT TO SAY THANK YOU FOR THE TIME TO BE HERE.

I'M HAPPY TO ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS AND GO FROM THERE.

>> I HAVE A QUICK QUESTION.

YOU SAID FIGURING OUT WHAT TO TAKE OFF OUR PLATES.

DO YOU HAVE AN EXAMPLE OF SOMETHING THAT WE'RE LOOKING AT THE [OVERLAPPING]?

>> YEAH. I'LL GIVE A GENERAL EXAMPLE.

ONE OF THE EXAMPLES MIGHT BE WHEN WE'RE LOOKING AT OUR POSITIVE BEHAVIOR INTERVENTION SYSTEMS WE MIGHT HAVE A BUILDING THAT IS STILL DOING VERY TRADITIONAL REFERRAL PROCESSES.

THEIR HANDWRITING THEM AND THEN THEY HAVE TO GO SOMEWHERE ELSE AND THEN THEY HAVE TO GO SOMEWHERE ELSE AND BY THAT TIME, IT'S REALLY A LONG TIME AFTER THAT BEHAVIOR HAS HAPPENED WITH THAT STUDENT.

IT'S MORE WORK FOR TEACHERS BECAUSE OF THEIR HANDWRITING SOMETHING, THEN IT'S GOT TO GO THROUGH THIS PROCESS.

ONE OF THE THINGS THAT WE CAN DO IS SAY, HEY SCHOOL YOU HAVE SUISSE, WHICH IS WE'RE REPORTING SOME OF THE BEHAVIOR INCIDENCES AT THE ELEMENTARY LEVEL.

WHY ARE WE DOING BOTH THINGS? WHAT NEED IS A PAPER REFERRAL? WHAT NEED IS THAT SERVING? ALSO WHAT NEED IS THAT PURPOSE SERVING? CAN WE LOOK AT THOSE TWO THINGS AND FIND A WAY THAT IS NOT AS CUMBERSOME.

IT'S NOT TWO WAYS OF DOING THINGS.

LET'S TAKE AWAY THE PAPER REFERRALS AND LET'S JUST FOCUS ON THIS ONE THING AND SAVING TIME WITH TEACHERS HAVING TO HANDWRITE A REFERRAL OR, OR PAIRS WHOEVER'S DOING THE REFERRAL FOR THAT.

THAT'S JUST AN EXAMPLE OF A BEHAVIOR ONE OFF THE TOP OF MY HEAD.

[LAUGHTER]

>> ALSO TELL ME, I'M TRYING TO WRAP MY BRAIN AROUND, SO MTSS IS LIKE THE UMBRELLA AND UDL IS UNDER THAT UMBRELLA.

I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT MY QUESTION IS RELATED TO THE UDL IS LIKE WE NEED CRYSTAL CLEAR GOALS AND THEN MULTIPLE WAYS TO MEET THOSE GOALS.

BUT THEN WITHIN THAT, YOU HAVE OPEN YOU HAVE MORE STRUCTURE FOR SOME KIDS AND VERY-

>> YES. WHAT MTSS IS THE SYSTEM PART OF IT IS GOING TO TELL US, WE'RE READY TO START INCORPORATING SOME UNIVERSAL DESIGN FOR LEARNING STRATEGIES.

HOW ARE WE GOING TO DO THAT? WE KNOW WE HAVE TO PROVIDE TRAINING TO TEACHERS.

WE KNOW WE NEED TO PROVIDE A WAY FOR TEACHERS TO GIVE US FEEDBACK ON WHETHER OR NOT IT'S WORKING.

WE NEED TO BE ABLE TO LOOK AT STUDENT DATA TO SEE IF IT'S WORKING OR NOT AND THEN IF IT'S NOT, HOW ARE WE GOING TO RESPOND? IF IT IS, HOW ARE WE GOING TO RESPOND? IT'S MORE ABOUT MAKING SURE THAT WE'RE FOLLOWING A PROCESS THROUGH THE UDL SYSTEM ITSELF, AND WE DO THE SAME THING WITH SOCIAL, EMOTIONAL.

IF WE'RE USING A WIDE TRY PROGRAM OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT, WE WOULD MAKE SURE THAT WE'RE USING OUR SYSTEM TO MAKE SURE THAT IT'S WORKING.

YEAH. IT'S BIG.

[00:35:03]

[LAUGHTER] IT CAN BE VERY BROAD AND VERY DETAILED ALL AT THE SAME TIME.

>> [BACKGROUND].

>> YES.

THANK YOU. DO YOU HAVE ANY OTHER QUESTIONS? JUST REACH OUT.

I'M HAPPY TO ANSWER THEM. THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME.

>> THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

>> ALL RIGHT. THAT'S GOING TO MOVE US ALONG TO ITEM B ON OUR AGENDA, WHICH IS AN UPDATE FROM COMMUNITY EDUCATION, AND MARY WEBSTER.

CAN WE GO BACK TO THE JUST VERY BEGINNING? THERE WE GO.

THANKS. PERFECT. LET'S MAKE SURE I GOT THIS DOWN.

THIS IS NEW. OKAY, PERFECT.

[BACKGROUND] I KNOW AND I'M DONE.

[LAUGHTER] SORRY, GAIL.

HERE, HOW ABOUT WE DO THAT ONE? THANK YOU.

IT'S BEEN FIVE YEARS SINCE I'VE BEEN HERE, AND WITH THE PANDEMIC AND EVERYTHING, IT'S BEEN, WHAT A LEARNING EXPERIENCE.

I REMEMBER JUST THINKING ABOUT GOING BACK AND WHAT I WANTED TO TELL YOU GUYS AND WHERE WE'RE AT AND WHAT WE'VE LEARNED AND IT'S BEEN A GREAT RIDE.

JUST GETTING THROUGH THAT PANDEMIC HAS BEEN SO GOOD FOR US TOO AS LEARNING AND KEEPING SOME THINGS AND I'LL TALK ABOUT THAT THROUGH THE PRESENTATION ABOUT WHAT WE'VE KEPT AND WHAT WE DIDN'T KEEP.

WITH THAT, LET'S GO AHEAD AND GET STARTED.

FIFTEEN YEARS, IT'S BEEN SINCE I STARTED THIS JOB AND IT'S BEEN A CRAZY RIDE WITH KAREN RUDOLPH AND MY TEAM.

COREY'S MOM WAS PART OF THAT AND I HAVE JUST AN AMAZING TEAM THAT MAKES THIS ALL HAPPEN.

YOU CAN HAVE VISIONS AND YOU CAN THINK ABOUT ALL THE DIFFERENT THINGS THAT YOU WANT TO DO, BUT AS YOU LOOK AT THESE PICTURES, THIS IS SCIENCE OLYMPIAD.

I MEAN, WE GOT SO MUCH SCIENCE AND THEN I GOT PRE-SCHOOL TOO.

I PICKED A COUPLE OF THOSE PICTURES TO TALK ABOUT WHERE WE'VE COME AND I'M GOING TO TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT EACH OF MY CATEGORIES THAT I OVERSEE, WHICH WE'LL COVER EACH OF THOSE CATEGORIES.

THAT'LL BE FOUR OF THEM THAT I HAVE.

THE FIRST ONE I WANT TO START WITH IS THE COMMUNITY AND CLASSES.

KAREN RUDOLPH IS THE COORDINATOR, SHE OVERSEES IT WITH KAREN LACAVEAT.

WE HAVE TWO KARENS MANAGING IT, AND THEY DO AN AMAZING JOB.

I PRETTY MUCH HAVE NOW TURNED IT OVER, THEY KEEP ME IN THE LOOP, WE BRAINSTORM, AND WE DO ALL WONDERFUL THINGS, BUT WHEN WE COME UP WITH NEW PEOPLE AND BUSINESS PEOPLE THAT JOIN OUR TEAM.

AS YOU CAN SEE, WE HAVE 103 FALL CLASSES WE HAD.

WE HAD IT LOCATED AT 10 DIFFERENT OF OUR 13 BUILDINGS THAT WE HAVE HERE.

KAREN UPDATED ME THIS MORNING, SHE'S LIKE MARY, I READ YOU THE NUMBER IS REALLY OVER 3,800 STUDENTS.

WHEN I TURNED IT IN TO GAIL, I DIDN'T CHANGE IT.

I JUST THOUGHT I TALK TO YOU GUYS.

BUT OVER 3,800 STUDENTS PARTICIPATED LAST FALL IN OUR COMMUNITY AND CLASSES.

JUST FALL. IT WAS AMAZING.

WE'RE BACK IN BUSINESS AND I KNOW I'VE TALKED WITH JASON AND TERESA AND MATTHEW AND HIS WHOLE TEAM, AND OUR NUMBERS, IT'S AMAZING, WE'RE ALREADY AT $1 MILLION FOR FOUR MONTHS.

THAT TELLS YOU A LOT OF JUST THE FOUR MONTHS THAT WE'RE BACK IN BUSINESS FULL SWING.

THOSE TWO YEARS WERE A LITTLE TOUGH ON US, BUT WE MADE IT THROUGH IT AND WE KEPT OPEN, AND WE KEPT EVERYTHING GOING.

BACK TO BASIC, CULINARY SEWING.

THESE ARE JUST SOME OF THE CLASSES THAT WE HAVE EXPANDED.

WE'VE REALLY GROWN SINCE THE LAST TIME I'VE BEEN HERE.

SCIENCE AND STEM, ISTEM THAT WE HAVE, AND THEN THE WORLD LANGUAGE TESTS THAT WE WORK WITH, WE STARTED WITH ALICE ANDERSON, BUT NOW WE WORK WITH LISA AND TEAM.

KAREN WORKS WITH HER AND WE DO THE WORLD LANGUAGE TESTING WHERE THE KIDS GET CREDIT IF THEY'RE PROFICIENT AND DEPENDING ON HOW MUCH THEY PASS IT THEY EARN CREDIT AND CAN BYPASS THEIR FOREIGN LANGUAGE CLASSES.

WE HAVE CHESS, WE'VE ART, WE HAVE DRAMA, WE HAVE EARLY LEARNING CLASSES THAT HAS JUST EXPLODED.

OUR EARLY LEARNING CLASSES IN THE LAST THREE YEARS THROUGH THE PANDEMIC BECAUSE STILL THERE WERE SOME PARENTS THAT STILL WANTED TO HAVE SOME LEARNING THAT WE DID, SO WE DID HAVE SOME OF THAT DURING THE PANDEMIC, BUT WE DID IT IN SMALLER CLASS SIZES AND SMALLER SETTINGS.

THEN WE KEPT UP OPEN THE EMERGENCY,

[00:40:02]

OBVIOUSLY CHILDCARE DURING THOSE TIMES TOO, SO WE WERE ABLE TO INCORPORATE SOME THINGS THAT PEOPLE WANTED TO SEE.

OUR SPORTS LEAGUES, THROUGH THE ROOF.

WE HAVE OVER 600 KIDDOS THAT JUST STARTED BASKETBALL GAMES THIS WEEKEND.

WE HAD OUR FIRST AND SECOND GRADERS THAT STARTED BACK IN NOVEMBER.

JOHN'S DAUGHTER WAS PART OF THAT, AND I THINK HE WAS EXCITED.

HE SAID IT WENT REALLY WELL.

THEN WE STARTED OUR THIRD THROUGH EIGHTH LEAGUES THIS WEEKEND.

YOU HAVE FOUR GYMS AT FOUR BUILDINGS, SKYBRIDGE, LIBERTY, GRASS VALLEY, AND PRUNE HILL, ALL RUNNING WITH GAMES GOING.

IT'S BEEN REALLY FUN AND JUST TOTALLY BACK UP AND ABOVE.

I'LL GIVE YOU A PERCENTAGE IN JUST A MINUTE AFTER I TALK ABOUT THIS.

THEN WE HAVE OUR FITNESS CLASSES THAT WE'VE ADDED.

WE HAVE OUR KIDS' FITNESS CLASSES, WE HAVE ADULT FITNESS CLASSES.

WE HAVE ADULT BASKETBALL EVERY WEEK.

WE HAVE ADULT VOLLEYBALL EVERY WEEK.

THAT'S AT LIBERTY.

BOTH OF THOSE ARE AT LIBERTY AND FITNESS IS AT ZACK AND UP AT HLC, WHICH IS AMAZING TO WATCH.

IT'S FUN TO SEE HOW MANY KIDDOS SIGN UP FOR THOSE FITNESS CLASSES.

JUST COMMUNITY AT ITSELF AND CLASSES IS UP 16 PERCENT FROM IF I WAS TO TAKE THE DOLLAR AMOUNT WHERE WE WERE AT IN BEFORE WE STARTED THE PANDEMIC, WE DIDN'T QUITE FINISH THAT YEAR, BUT WE'RE PROJECTED TO BE AT 13 PERCENT UP, AND NOW WE'RE ABOVE THAT AND WE'RE UP 16 PERCENT.

SO AMAZING.

YOU CAN SEE THE SEWING CLASSES AND YOU CAN SEE THE CHESS, AND THEN THAT'S A SCIENCE, IT'S A SUMMER CLASS UP ON THE RIGHT CORNER THAT WE DO.

IT'S THIS BIG ISTEM CLASS, AND THAT WAS PRETTY FUN.

THE NEXT THING THAT I REALLY WANTED TO SHOW YOU GUYS, I JUST WANTED TO SHOW YOU SOMETHING UP ON THE SCREEN.

[INAUDIBLE] HELLO.

IT'S THE CAMAS COMMUNITY AND CLASSES, AND THEN SHE DESIGNED THIS WEBSITE.

WE DID THIS A WHILE AGO, IT'S BEEN PROBABLY SIX YEARS THAT WE REDID OUR WEBSITE.

BUT IT'S SO AMAZING YOU GUYS, BECAUSE WE'VE WORKED WITH BUSINESS SERVICES OVER THE LAST 12 YEARS OF REALLY GETTING IT NEAT AND STREAMED FOR PARENTS TO BE ABLE TO GO ONLINE AT NIGHTTIME AT MIDNIGHT LIKE WHEN WE SHOP, OR WHATEVER WE DO, AND THEY CAN GO ON AND PURCHASE THE CLASSES.

HERE'S THE REALLY THING, THESE ARE ALL THE CATEGORIES THAT I WENT OVER WITH YOU.

ALSO SAFETY, WE DO A BIG THING ON SAFETY WITH BABYSITTING AND SAFE ON MY OWN CLASSES.

THOSE ARE PACKED OUT BECAUSE PARENTS ARE REALLY, ESPECIALLY IN OUR DAY-TO-DAY WITH EVERYTHING, THEY TALK ABOUT SOCIAL MEDIA, THEY GET FIRST AID CPR CERTIFIED, THESE YOUNG KIDDOS THAT WANT TO BABYSIT.

I JUST WANTED YOU TO SEE THIS BECAUSE IT'S REALLY COOL.

THEN EACH OF MY GIRLS, BRENDA, IS THE PRESCHOOL AND EXTENDED DAY THAT I'LL TALK ABOUT MORE, AND FACILITY RENTAL IS RACHEL AND SHE ALSO OVERSEES MY AFTER-SCHOOL CARE.

BUT THIS IS JUST A LITTLE SNIPPET OF OUR WEBSITE, SO I REALLY WANTED YOU TO SEE THAT.

[BACKGROUND] IT'S SO FUNNY BECAUSE WE JUST HAVE BEEN PURGING.

WE FINALLY ARE AT THAT SEVEN-YEAR MARK OF PAPER FORMS AND SO WE'VE BEEN GETTING RID OF ALL THOSE, SO IT'S SO NICE.

IT'S REALLY GROWN.

LIKE I SAID, THE TEAM I HAVE THE FIVE OF US.

THEY JUST WORK REALLY HARD.

THAT'S A LITTLE SNIPPET OF COMMUNITY IN AND THEN HERE'S PRESCHOOL.

NOW, THIS IS OUR 10TH YEAR STARTING.

EIGHT YEARS AGO I ADDED 18-MONTH-OLD TODDLERS BECAUSE I HAD MY LOVELY DAUGHTER WHO KEPT SAYING I'M COMING BACK, I'M GOING TO BE COMING BACK.

YOU'VE GOT TO START PROGRAM WHEN I HAVE A BABY.

I'M LIKE, OKAY BECAUSE I KEPT SAYING I WANT TO START AT BIRTH PROGRAM.

BUT THE MORE I LOOKED INTO BIRTH TO FIVE-YEAR-OLDS THE BIRTH TO ONE-YEAR-OLD IS SO MUCH MORE CHALLENGING THAN THE 12-MONTH AND OLDER, SO THERE'S SO MUCH MORE REQUIREMENTS STATEWIDE; EVERYTHING: THE AMOUNT OF CRIBS, THE AMOUNT OF SQUARE FOOTAGE.

EVERYTHING THAT YOU DO, IT JUST WAS SO MUCH.

THEN I STARTED WITH 12 MONTHS.

WE LEARNED QUICKLY AFTER ONE YEAR THAT ACTUALLY TWO YEARS WE DID IT.

WE DID TWO YEARS AND THEN WE CHANGED IT TO

[00:45:02]

18 MONTHS AND WE FIND THAT IT'S BEEN JUST WORKING REALLY WELL.

IT WORKS LIKE A CHARM.

THE NICE THING THAT WORKS WELL IS, WE HAVE 18 MONTHS-2-AND-1/2-YEAR-OLD CLASS.

WE HAVE 31 STUDENTS TWO DAYS A WEEK, BUT IN THE 2-AND-1/2-YEAR-OLD PROGRAM, THE NEXT IN LINE THERE'S 21 STUDENTS.

NOT ALL OF THE STUDENTS THAT ARE IN THE 18 MONTHS TO THE 2 AND 1/2 GO TO THE 2 AND 1/2 YEAR OLD PROGRAM.

YOU HAVE TO BE A CERTAIN AGE TO BE ABLE TO GET INTO THAT PROGRAM.

BETWEEN THOSE TWO PROGRAMS, WE HAVE APPROXIMATELY OVER 50 KIDS PARTICIPATING IN THAT, AND SO THAT REALLY WARMS MY HEART.

AS WE APPROACH REGISTRATION, DIANE AND I ARE DOING OUR INFORMATION NIGHT ON THURSDAY NIGHT ALREADY FOR 23, 24.

WE'RE NOT EVEN HALFWAY THROUGH THE YEAR AND WE'RE ALREADY TALKING ABOUT REGISTRATION FOR 23, 24.

THEN WE HAVE A MORNING AND AFTERNOON EVENING SESSION FOR THE INFORMATION NIGHT.

IT IS JUST THE WORD OF MOUTH BETWEEN ALL THREE OF OUR PRESCHOOL PROGRAMS INTEGRATED AND PAPER MAKER AND MYSELF.

COMMUNITY PRESCHOOL HAS BEEN AWESOME.

THE NICE THING WITH THIS, WHEN WE MOVE TO HLC IT'S JUST THE SPACE AND THE AMOUNT THAT WE'VE BEEN ABLE TO GROW.

AS YOU CAN SEE, I HAVE A 2 AND 1/2 YEAR OLD PROGRAM WITH 21 STUDENTS TWO DAYS A WEEK.

I HAVE A THREES AND FOURS.

I HAVE AM AND PM, AND WE HAVE 141 STUDENTS PARTICIPATING IN THAT PROGRAM FOUR DAYS A WEEK.

WE ALSO HAVE CHILDCARE AVAILABLE ONSITE FOR THREES AND FOURS, AND WE HAVE 61 STUDENTS PARTICIPATING IN THAT, THAT ARE FULL-TIME CARE THAT COME ANYWHERE FROM 7:00 IN THE MORNING UNTIL 5:30 AT NIGHT.

>> THEY GET TO GET CHILDCARE AND NOT PRE SCHOOL?

>> NOPE. THEY GET TO GO TO BOTH.

IN THAT 193 FAMILIES COREY 61 STUDENTS PARTICIPATE IN THE CHILDCARE, SO 1/3.

THAT'S BASICALLY A LITTLE BIT.

IT JUST WORKS REALLY WELL BECAUSE THEN THE KIDS CAN COME OUT THE DOOR, THEN THEY GO TO 2 AND-1/2 HOURS OF PRESCHOOL, AND THEN THEY COME BACK.

THEY HAVE LUNCH, THEY HAVE REST TIME, THEY HAVE SNACK, AND THEN THEY PLAY AND THEN WE BUILT IT ALL AROUND.

EVERYTHING HAS BEEN BUILT AROUND IN OUR TIMES BETWEEN DIANE AND I WORKING WITH OUR TIMES THAT AT GYM TIME, GOING ON THE TRACK, OR GOING ON WHEREVER.

ON THE BUILDING WE ALWAYS HAVE A BIG SCHEDULE.

IT'S REALLY NICE SO IT WORKS OUT WELL.

YOU CAN SEE ALL THE PICTURES.

IF YOU LOOK UP IN THE LEFT-HAND CORNER, THE GIRLS DO A UNIT, WHOLE COMMUNITY.

IF YOU KNOW BRANDY READ, THAT'S GARY READ.

HE'S OUR GARBAGE MAN.

IT IS THE BEST PRESENTATION.

HE WAS JUST WITH US [LAUGHTER] JUST AFTER THANKSGIVING.

IT WAS SO HILARIOUS. I'M NOT SURE STEPHEN BARRENASCII IF YOUR DAUGHTER CAME HOME.

>> [BACKGROUND].

>> I WAS HOPING. IT'S JUST AWESOME BECAUSE WE HAVE THE FIRE GUYS, WE HAVE THE POLICE, WE HAVE GARBAGE.

WE HAVE EVERYTHING THAT THE GIRLS ARE SO AMAZING AT WHO THEY HAVE COME IN AND TALK TO OUR LITTLE KIDS.

THAT'S COMMUNITY PRESCHOOL AT HLC AND IT'S REALLY AWESOME.

THEY JUST DO A GREAT JOB.

I'M REALLY PROUD OF ALL THOSE GIRLS, WHAT THEY DO.

BEFORE AND AFTER SCHOOL CARE, BACK UP FOR A MINUTE ON PRESCHOOL.

PRESCHOOL IS UP ALMOST EIGHT PERCENT FROM WHERE OUR NUMBERS WERE, WE'RE NOW ALMOST AT CAPACITY IN OUR ROOMS. I WILL HAVE TO PRETTY MUCH EITHER KICK OUT TRANSITION OR WORK WITH JOHN.

WE JUST HAVE TO FIGURE OUT SOMETHING TO START EXPANDING INTO OTHER ROOMS BECAUSE ALL OF MY 200 POD IS COMPLETELY FULL.

DIANE HAS A LITTLE BIT OF ROOM THAT WE COULD GROW IN ONE ROOM, AND HER AND I'VE BEEN TALKING ABOUT IT A LITTLE BIT.

IF IT'S ONE OF US OFFERING AND GETTING ANOTHER CLASSROOM POSSIBLY THAT'S SOMETHING TO LOOK AT TOO. THAT'S A GOOD THING.

BRENDA SHALL MANAGES PRESCHOOL AND THEN HELPS ME WITH BEFORE AND AFTER-SCHOOL CARE, ALONG WITH RACHEL BEST HELPS ME MANAGE THE ACTUAL LOCATION, THE TWO SITES WHICH I'LL GO INTO.

WE HAVE BEFORE SCHOOL CARE, THAT NUMBER HAS GROWN.

BEFORE THE PANDEMIC WE ONLY HAD 41 KIDS, SO IT HAS GROWN.

THERE'S NOT QUITE THE NEED AS WHAT WE USED TO SEE.

BACK IN THE DAY, WE HAD MUCH MORE OF A NEED BEFORE SCHOOL.

BECAUSE OF THE EARLIEST START TIMES THAT CHANGED THAT NUMBER SIGNIFICANTLY BECAUSE IF YOU REMEMBER MY NUMBER WAS OVER 300 KIDS THAT I WOULD SEE IN THE MORNING TIME BECAUSE PARENTS HAD TO GET TO WORK BEFORE 8:00 O'CLOCK OR WHATEVER, BUT NOW THAT THE KIDS CAN BE DROPPED OFF AT 7:45 THAT HAS MADE A HUGE DIFFERENCE.

>> BEFORE AFTERCARE?

>> YEAH. OUR AFTERCARE IS UP 16 PERCENT AND 16.8 PERCENT, ALMOST 17 ACTUALLY.

WE SEE ALMOST 400 STUDENTS A DAY IN BOTH LOCATIONS.

WE OPENED BACK UP AGAIN.

THIS YEAR REMEMBER WE SHUT DOWN AND WE NARROWED IT DOWN AND WE HAD A CERTAIN GROUP.

[00:50:02]

BEFORE DURING THE PANDEMIC AT ZAC, WE HAD ABOUT 30 SOME KIDS THAT JEFF AND I WORKED ON WITH THE TEACHERS AND EMERGENCY CHILDCARE FOR THOSE HEALTHCARE WORKERS ON THAT.

WE CLOSED THIS BUILDING DOWN AND JUST HAD IT FOR THAT AND THEN WE ALSO HAD JACQUELINE AND ROB OPEN FOR CERTAIN KIDS WHEN WE DID IN-PERSON OUR ONLINE LEARNING THAN WE HAVE THOSE TWO PROGRAMS OPEN.

NOW WE'RE OPENED FULL SWING. EVERYTHING IS OPEN.

AT ZAC, WE HAVE KINDERGARTNERS AND FIRST WHICH IS RIGHT UP HERE AT THE 300 POD, AND WE SEE ABOUT 187 KIDS IN A DAY THAT PARTICIPATE.

THEN JWR, THERE'S 164 STUDENTS THAT IS SECOND THROUGH FIFTH GRADE.

>> [BACKGROUND]?

>> NO, I CAN TAKE A FEW MORE.

MY PROBLEM IS COREY RIGHT NOW IS STARVING.

I HAVE A JOB POSTED RIGHT NOW.

IF I CAN GET TWO MORE STAFF MEMBERS AT JACQUELINE AND ROB, I COULD INCREASE IT BASICALLY TO 25 TO 30 AND I DO HAVE A WAITING LIST. I DO.

I'M HOPING PEOPLE WILL APPLY.

THAT'S BEEN ONE OF THE BIGGEST PROBLEMS THROUGH THIS WHOLE PROGRAM, THROUGH AFTER-SCHOOL CARE.

I USED TO SEE MOMS OR PEOPLE WHO ARE THE PLAYGROUND, PEOPLE WHO ARE WORKING AT THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS, AND THEN THEY WOULD STACK THE JOB BECAUSE THEY HAD 4.25 ON MONDAY, TUESDAY, THURSDAY, FRIDAY, AND THEN ONLY THREE HOURS ON WEDNESDAY.

IT WAS PERFECT BECAUSE THEY COULD COME AND GET FIVE FOR ME AND WEDNESDAY AND THEN THEY COULD GET ANOTHER ADDITIONAL THREE HOURS PER AFTER-SCHOOL.

BUT EVER SINCE THE PANDEMIC, I DON'T KNOW.

I JUST TOTALLY CHANGED MY WHOLE THOUGHT PROCESS.

I HAVE A WHOLE STAFF UP HERE OF RUNNING START STUDENTS AND I HAVE COLLEGE STUDENTS, SO I WENT TO CLARK AND WSU.

THEY HELPED ME PIN IT ON THEIR BOARDS.

THEN I WENT TO ELIZABETH AT ROLLING AT CHS AND SHE HELPED ME AND WE PUT A RUNNING START STUDENTS.

IN THE SUMMERTIME WE SAID JOBS ARE OPEN.

I HAVE EIGHT OF THEM UP THERE AND I HAVE FOUR OF THEM DOWN AT JACQUELINE ROB.

UNFORTUNATELY, THAT WAS ALL I COULD GET.

NOW I HAVE TWO OTHER MOMS WHO ARE WITH US AND ONE OF THEM HAPPENS TO BE FROM UKRAINE WHO JUST CAME FROM UKRAINE TWO MONTHS AGO.

SHE'S APPLYING FOR ONE OF THE JOBS AND SO HOPEFULLY I CAN GET HER ON AND GET HER WORKING TOO.

I NEED A COUPLE MORE STAFF MEMBERS ESPECIALLY AT JACQUELINE ROB.

ZAC, I WOULDN'T PROBABLY GO MORE THAN 200 EVEN THOUGH MY FIRE MARSHAL CODE IS 240.

IT JUST SEEMS A LOT WITH THOSE LITTLES, WITH THE KINDERGARTNERS AND FIRST GRADERS.

THERE'S A LOT MORE ROOMS, IT'S NOT AS OPEN AS JACQUELINE ROB IS.

JACQUELINE ROB IS MUCH MORE OPEN.

WE CAN SEE A LOT MORE THINGS WHEREAS IF YOU GO UP HERE IT'S LIKE YOUR PODS.

IF YOU REMEMBER BEING IN THE CLASSROOMS UP THERE, IT'S JUST LIKE A LITTLE MAZE.

YOU CAN GET LOST. YOU GO UP THERE AND EVERYONE'S LIKE, WHAT'S GOING ON UP HERE?

>> I HAVE A QUESTION REAL QUICK BUST BECAUSE IT'S BEEN A LITTLE WHILE.

IT'S ON, I'M RIGHT HERE.

[LAUGHTER] BECAUSE IT'S BEEN A LITTLE WHILE CAN YOU REMIND ME A LITTLE BIT, JUST HOW YOUR PROGRAM IS FUNDED? IS IT PRETTY MUCH DRIVEN BY TUITION FEES IN THAT OR WHAT'S THE DISTRICT? IS IT JUST FACILITIES THAT DISTRICT PROVIDES? CAN YOU REFER ON THAT ONE?

>> I WAS GOING TO TALK A LITTLE BIT AT THE END, BUT I'LL GO AHEAD.

[OVERLAPPING] NO, I'LL DO IT NOW FOR YOU.

IT'S ACTUALLY GREAT. AS I TOLD YOU NOW, I'M FOUR MONTHS IN. I HAVE MY NUMBERS.

I KNOW I'M JUST UNDER A MILLION DOLLARS AND MY EXPENSES RIGHT NOW ARE AT 780.

I PRETTY MUCH DON'T TAKE ANYTHING OTHER THAN THE LAST TWO YEARS.

YOU GUYS REALLY HELPED US OUT AND THAT WAS A BIG THING.

I WENT TO JEFF ABOUT, HE WAS WHAT SHOULD I DO? DO I NEED TO GET RID OF SOME OF MY COORDINATORS? DO I NEED TO LAY OFF ANYONE? WHAT DO WE NEED TO DO. THEY'RE LIKE, MARY, YOU'VE GIVEN SO MUCH THROUGH THE YEARS ON THE GENERAL FUND.

A LOT OF TIMES I DIDN'T USE IT.

JASON AND I OR DON AND I WOULD MAKE WOULD MAKE OUR [INAUDIBLE], WE'D MAKE DEALS.

I HAD A PLAYGROUND JUST BEFORE THE PANDEMIC HAPPENED, WE WERE GOING TO DO IT.

HEIDI AND I WE HAD IT ALREADY SCOPED OUT AND EVERYTHING, BUT PRETTY MUCH COREY I ANSWER YOUR QUESTION 13TH OF THE 15 YEARS, I'VE BEEN PRETTY MUCH SELF-SUFFICIENT OTHER THAN DURING THE PANDEMIC?

>> [BACKGROUND].

>> YEAH.

LET ME PREFACE THAT, SOMEONE SAYS, OH, WHAT ARE YOU CHARGED RENT? NO. BUT DO I BRING IN, DO I COVER MY COSTS WITH MY SALARIES? I HELP OUT WITH CERTAIN THINGS.

I PAID FOR MY CUSTODIAN, I PAY FOR MY MAINTENANCE, I PAY FOR ALL THAT IN MY BILL, ALL OF MY FACILITIES.

I JUST GOT AN EMAIL FROM OUR TRANSITION.

HEY, MARY, WE NEED LOCK BLOCKS. WILL YOU PAY FOR THAT?

[00:55:01]

YES. IF THAT'S THE GOOD IS THAT, IT'S DONE A GREAT JOB, WE'VE DONE OTHER THAN THE TWO YEARS DURING THE PANDEMIC, BUT THAT WE DIDN'T FORESEE THAT RIGHT.

BUT WE WERE ABLE TO KEEP EVERYONE ON FOR THE MOST PART, OTHER THAN MY AFTER-SCHOOL CARE, WE DID. WE WEREN'T SURE.

THAT HAPPENED IN MARCH 13TH AND THEN BEFORE MAY 15TH, WE DID LET EVERYONE GO BECAUSE I JUST DIDN'T KNOW WHAT IT LOOKED LIKE.

I CAN ALWAYS HIRE THOSE BACK.

I WASN'T REALLY WORRIED ABOUT MY COORDINATORS AND ABOUT CERTAIN PEOPLE I WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO KEEP.

BUT JEFF AND JASON, WE WORKED AS A TEAM AND WE KEPT THEM SO THAT WORKED OUT GREAT. YEAH, YOU'RE WELCOME.

FACILITIES AND FIELDS RENTALS.

WOW. I SHOULD HAVE STEPHEN UP HERE WITH ME ON THIS [LAUGHTER] BECAUSE ONE OF THEM IS A HOT TOPIC, OR TWO OF THEM ACTUALLY ARE HOT TOPICS.

GARVER, AS YOU KNOW, IF YOU'VE BEEN IN THERE, I THINK I'M GOING TO BE GIVING A TOUR TO DAVE RIP AND I'LL MAKE SURE YOU GUYS ARE INVITED TO.

BUT A GROUP OF THE PORT AND SOME OF THE CITY PEOPLE STILL HAVEN'T GOTTEN TO SEE IT BECAUSE THEY WEREN'T ABLE TO COME ON THE TWO TIMES THAT WE HAD IT.

I'M GOING TO GIVE SOME MORE TOURS HERE IN THE NEXT WEEK OR SO.

I'LL LET YOU GUYS KNOW IF YOU WANT TO COME AND SEE IT.

WE'D LOVE TO HAVE YOU. GARVER HAS BEEN AWESOME.

WE HAD A SOFT START LAST YEAR.

WE HAD CHOIR AND BAND AND DRAMA FROM LIBERTY AND FROM SKYBRIDGE A LITTLE BIT.

LIBERTY DID OLIVER, THEY DID THEIR MUSICAL THERE THIS LAST YEAR AND IT WAS AWESOME, AND THEY WERE ABLE TO TALK TO THE CABINET TEAM AND JUST SAY, HEY, WE'RE JUST GOING TO DO A SOFT START BECAUSE WE NEED TO WORK OUT THE BUGS AND KINGS.

WE STILL DON'T HAVE ALL OF OUR TECHNOLOGY TODAY.

DELTA IV WAS THERE AND STILL TWO THINGS THEY THOUGHT WERE SHIPPED, WEREN'T SHIPPED.

IT'S JUST TAKING A LONG TIME.

WE ORDERED CURTAINS, WE'RE GOING TO GET NEW CURTAINS, KATHLEEN JUST SAID TO ME TODAY, HEY, I PUT A CALL INTO STAGECRAFT.

WE'RE GOING TO SEE WHERE THEY'RE AT.

IT'S BEEN REALLY FUN TO BE ABLE TO DO A SOFT START.

FRIDAY, I HAVE INTERVIEWS FOR THE TECHNICAL DIRECTOR MANAGERS, LAST MANAGER, SO I'VE GOT FOUR CANDIDATES THAT WE'RE GOING TO INTERVIEW. I HAVE A TEAM OF THREE.

THREE OF US WILL INTERVIEW THEM OVER AT GARVER SO THAT WE CAN GIVE TOURS TO AS WELL AND LOOK AT THINGS AND TALK ABOUT THINGS, HAVE MORE OF A HANDS-ON EXPERIENCE WITH THAT PLACE JUST SO THEY CAN SEE WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT.

VEGA, DALEY DANCE.

WE HAVE A SYMPHONY AND I WILL MAKE SURE EVERY ONE OF YOU IN THIS ROOM IS INVITED BECAUSE THEY ARE AT SKY VIEW AUDITORIUM.

AND WE WENT AND KEIM, KEIM HE'S ONE OF OUR ENGINEERS FOR OUR MAINTENANCE GUYS.

HE DRESSES AS HE DOES A DARTH VADER.

AND I'M TELLING YOU THIS BECAUSE HE WAS AT THE LAST SYMPHONY AT CHRISTMAS AND DID THIS, AND HE WAS THERE A PART OF THE SHOW OR WENT AND VISITED IN THAT.

BUT HE CAME BACK AND HE DIDN'T KNOW THAT WE WERE WORKING WITH HIS NAME IS IGOR, WITH IGOR AND HIS SYMPHONY, THEY ARE LIKE UNBELIEVABLE, EVERYONE JUST RAVES ABOUT THEM AND THEY PACK OUT A HOUSE.

THE SKY VIEWS, AUDITORIUMS, 1,200 PEOPLE.

OURS IS 700. HE'S LIKE, I REALLY WANT TO GET ON THE EAST SIDE.

WOULD YOU GUYS BE WILLING TO WORK WITH US A LITTLE BIT SO WE'RE REALLY EXCITED BECAUSE WE'RE JUST FINALIZING THAT CONTRACT RIGHT NOW AND THAT'S GOING TO COME IN MARCH, SO I'LL MAKE SURE EVERYONE HEARS ABOUT IT BECAUSE IT'LL ROCK THE HOUSE.

WE GOT TO MAKE SURE IT'S JUST GOING TO BE AWESOME.

I'M REALLY EXCITED. WE'RE WORKING WITH JOURNEY THEATER.

WE'RE JUST TRYING TO NETWORK AND TRYING TO GET SOME MORE PEOPLE IN THERE, AND AS WE'RE GETTING MORE OF OUR ITEMS AND THINGS, WE'RE TRYING TO MAKE SURE THAT WE MAKE SURE PEOPLE KNOW IT'S OPEN.

I'M REALLY EXCITED ABOUT GETTING THIS DIRECTOR ON BOARD BECAUSE THAT'S PART OF THE JOB DESCRIPTION IS REALLY GETTING OUT THERE AND NETWORKING WITH BLUE PARROT WITH OUR CITS JUST OUR YOUTH THEATERS AND ALL THE DIFFERENT THINGS.

THE VEGAS, THE DANCES, THE DANCE PLACES, AND EVERGREEN DAY, THEY COME TO US.

THEY RESERVE US WELL IN ADVANCE.

>> MISSOULA CHILDREN'S THEATER.

>> SO WE HAVE THEM IN THE SUMMERTIME AND THEY GOT TO BE IN THERE AND THEY WERE BLOWN AWAY.

THEY GOT TO HAVE THEIR PERFORMANCE IN THERE. IT WAS REALLY AWESOME.

INSTEAD OF THAT CHS THEATER, THEY GOT TO BE AT GARVER AND IT'S REALLY AWESOME.

THAT'S NOW THROUGH COMMUNITY AT NOT HAVING AND WE'RE BACK IN THE DAY.

STEPHEN WAS THE VERY FIRST PIPER AND SECOND GRADE.

IT WAS FUNNY WHEN I THINK ABOUT THAT.

>> HAS THAT REALLY ALLEVIATED A LOT OF THE PRESSURE ON THE CHS.

>> YEAH. I THINK IT'S NICE FOR SEAN AND FOR RICHARD AND FOR ETHAN, ALTHOUGH EVEN REALLY WANTS TO BE MORE AT, HIM AND I HAVE BEEN TALKING A LOT AND DOING MORE AT GARVER, WHICH IS GREAT.

BECAUSE WE WANT TO GET PEOPLE IN THERE.

JOHN AND I HAVE TALKED ABOUT WE WANT TO GET PEOPLE IN THERE, AND THEY SHOULD BE IN THERE.

IT'S A BEAUTIFUL THEATER AND WE WERE ABLE TO RE-ESTABLISH,

[01:00:01]

REDO IT AND GET IT'S JUST GORGEOUS AND TO SEE HOW IT SITS UP THERE ON THE CORNER THAT HILL, YOU KNOW EVERYONE, THE PARKING AND IT'S NOT THAT BAD.

YOU HAVE TO WALK A LITTLE BIT, BUT IT'S NOT THAT BAD.

>> WE'VE HEARD FROM SO MANY COMMUNITY MEMBERS AND A BUNCH OF LIKE SKY VIEW EVERY HAD CHOIR AND CHRISTMAS PERFORMANCES THERE.

AND THEY WERE JUST SO MANY PEOPLE WERE LIKE, THIS PLACE IS AMAZING AND THANK YOU AND SO WE LOVE THAT.

>> SO WE'RE GOING TO HAVE OUR FIRST WEDDING THERE IN MAY.

[APPLAUSE] [LAUGHTER] YES. YOU DO.

IT'S SHERMAN'S DAUGHTER. SHERMAN'S DAUGHTER WORKED FOR ME FOR MANY YEARS, FOR SIX YEARS.

AND SHE JUST WANTS A VERY SIMPLE WEDDING.

AND I SAID, SYDNEY, THERE'S NO ALCOHOL AND SHE GOES, I DON'T CARE, I DON'T WANT ALCOHOL.

I JUST WANT THIS BEAUTIFUL VENUE.

I JUST THINK IT'S GORGEOUS.

SHERMAN AND ANGELA ARE VERY EXCITED TOO, BECAUSE SHE FELT THAT HER AND HER FIANCE FELL IN LOVE WITH IT.

THAT'S OUR FIRST ONE. I THINK IT'S A GREAT VENUE FOR THAT AS WELL.

THERE'S A LOT OF OPPORTUNITY THERE FOR DIFFERENT THINGS.

YOU CAN DO WITH YOUR WEDDING IN THE AUDITORIUM AREA AND THEN HAVE YOUR RECEPTION.

ANYWAYS, IT'LL BE GOOD. THIS IS THE ONE FIELD HOUSE.

I'M GOING TO MOVE IT UP A LITTLE BIT. THIS IS MY LAST SLIDE.

THE FIELD HOUSE, STEPHEN AND I HAVE WORKED CLOSELY WITH ACTUALLY RACHEL AND STEPHEN HAVE WORKED MORE CLOSELY THAN I HAVE LATELY, BUT THAT IS A HOT TOPIC THEN MY OFFICE.

WHY CAN'T WE HAVE THAT I WANT THAT.

STEPHEN HAS BEEN AWESOME AND GRACIOUS AND WORK WITH US AND GIVING US TIME WHEN HE HAS TIME.

BUT OBVIOUSLY, IT'S JUST STEPHEN I TALKED TO JUST RECENTLY BEFORE THE HOLIDAY, IT'S GOING TO GET BUSIER AND BUSIER AS THE SPORTS AND AS DIFFERENT HIGH-SCHOOL SPORTS, MIDDLE SCHOOL SPORTS, WHATEVER WE NEED IN THERE, THAT COMES FIRST.

AND THAT'S WHAT WE TELL THESE GROUPS, THAT THEY COME FIRST AND WE MIGHT HAVE SOME TIME ON SUNDAY OR WE MIGHT HAVE SOME OR SATURDAY EVENING OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT.

IT BASICALLY COULD BE A 24/7 BUILDING.

JUST LIKE CHS IS.

THAT'S WHY I DON'T TOUCH CHS, GETTING PEOPLE IN THERE BECAUSE THAT'S PRETTY MUCH ANYTIME THEY'LL ALWAYS BE SOMEONE THERE.

>> SO YOU AND STEPHEN COORDINATE THAT LIKE HE COORDINATES IF IT'S BASEBALL OR SOCCER FOR CAMAS HIGH SCHOOL AND THEN EVERYTHING ELSE YOU FILTER IN?

>> YEP. AND RACHEL MANAGES IT FOR ME, BUT YES, WE WORK TOGETHER.

A LOT OF TIMES IF WE HAVE ISSUES BECAUSE EVEN HAD TO CALL ME BECAUSE WE HAD AN ISSUE WITH SOME KIDS, CRIME IN THE NETS OR DOING SOMETHING.

THAT'S WHAT WE WANT.

THAT COMMUNICATION. WE DID THE SAME THING AND BUILDINGS.

WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THE PRINCIPALS KNOW AND TALK TO US ABOUT WHEN THERE'S ISSUES.

WE WANT OUR BUILDINGS USED.

THAT WAS MY TASK AT HAND, I REMEMBER 15 YEARS AGO WAS TO GET PEOPLE BACK IN OUR BUILDINGS AND TO USE THEM, AND I PROBABLY CAN SAY THAT BETWEEN DEBBIE AND RACHEL, WE'VE ROCKED IT AND WE HAVE NOW SO MANY GROUPS REALLY RENTING OUR FACILITIES AND OUR FIELDS, WHICH LEADS ME TO THE NEXT ONE, BASEBALL AND SOFTBALL TURF.

DURING THE ESPECIALLY THE SPRING AND SUMMER, IT'S JUST UNBELIEVABLE.

PEOPLE ARE JUST LIKE CLIMBING DOWN, THEY'RE LIKE, CAN WE PLEASE GET IT? BUT THEN WE'VE GOT TO WORK WITH THE COACHES THAT USE IT.

MANDY AND STEPHEN THAT WORK, THAT THERE ARE VARSITY COACHES.

WE WORK REALLY CLOSELY WITH STEPHEN'S OFFICE AFTER RORY LEFT.

THAT WAS ONE OF THE THINGS. IT'S BEEN GREAT WITH THAT TRANSITION WITH STEPHEN.

HE'S BEEN EASY AND FUN TO WORK WITH TWO AND WE HAVE A GOOD RELATIONSHIP AS FAR AS WHAT WE CAN USE AND WHAT WE NEED TO DO AND HOW TO TAKE CARE OF THINGS.

AND I THINK THAT'S THE BIGGEST THING IS I KEEP TELLING ALL OF OURS.

I KEEP DRIVING IT WITH RACHEL IS JUST MAKING SURE THAT SHE KNOWS THAT THE MORE THAT PEOPLE TAKE CARE AND HELP TAKE CARE OF OUR FACILITIES AND OUR FIELDS AND OUR TURF AND FIELD HOUSE AND GARVER, THE BETTER THE MORE WE'RE GOING TO BE ABLE TO RENT IT AND THAT KIND OF STUFF.

THERE'S STILL AT ME A LITTLE BIT ABOUT INDOOR OUTDOOR SPORTS ENDURE.

BUT YEARS AGO, THE BOARD JUST AFTER I STARTED, SO IT'S BEEN ABOUT 14 YEARS AGO WITH THE OLD REGIME OF SOME OF THEM JUST MAKING THAT DECISION BECAUSE BRYAN MAGEE, GK NOON, HE SAID, WE CAN'T AFFORD.

THAT WAS '08, '09 WHEN WE HIT AND WE HAD EXPENSES OF MAINTAINING THE GYMS BY BASEBALLS BEING IN THERE AND SO THAT STUFF AND SOCCER'S.

THEY WERE BRAKING LIGHTS CONSTANTLY AND BRIAN JUST CAME IN.

I'LL NEVER FORGET HE WALKED INTO MY ROOM OFFICE AND HE'S LIKE, MARY, WE'RE GOING TO GO OUT, I CAN'T DO THIS ANYMORE.

I'M LIKE, WELL, LET'S GO BACK TO THE SCHOOL BOARD ABOUT THAT ONE.

ANYWAYS, GRASS FIELDS.

WE HAVE EVERY GROUP OUT THERE AND MORE AND MORE GROUPS.

I FINALLY SAID TO SOMEONE, YOU GUYS, WE CAN'T KEEP MAKING CLUBS.

WE DON'T HAVE ENOUGH SPACE. STEPHEN AND I TALKED ABOUT IT.

I'M LIKE, I DON'T KNOW HOW WE'RE GOING TO DO THIS BECAUSE WE DON'T HAVE ENOUGH SPACE, BUT WE TRY TO BE EQUITABLE.

WE TRY TO MAKE SURE EVERYONE GETS SOME TIME ON FIELDS, THAT OUR FIELDS ARE USED.

JOE VOTE AND I WORKED VERY CLOSELY MORE SO THAN RACHEL.

AND THEN I TELL RACHEL BECAUSE OF THE WINTER AND THE SPRING AND THE SUMMER WITH RAINY WEATHER OR NOT RAINY OR THAT KIND OF STUFF.

WE WORKED REALLY CLOSELY ON THAT. OUR CSD BUILDINGS.

[01:05:03]

YOU GUYS WE HAVE MULTIPLE BUSINESSES.

HOAS, BIRTHDAYS, DANCES, GYMNASTICS, PEOPLE WHO RENT THEM, AND FIELDS AND FACILITIES IS UP SEVEN PERCENT.

OVERALL, IT'S GOING PRETTY WELL.

I'M PRETTY HAPPY WE'RE BACK IN BUSINESS. IT'S NICE.

>> YOU HAVE A SENSE FOR THIS, DOES THE RENTAL AND USE OF OUR FIELDS, DOES THE RENTAL COVER THE MAINTENANCE OF THE HIGHER USE? NO. OKAY.

>> NO. BUT WE TRY, I WORKED WITH SHERMAN VERY CLOSELY ON A LOT OF THINGS AND JOHN NOW, NELSON, AND TROY, WE'RE ON SPEED DIAL, I SWEAR TODAY JUST ON ANYTHING.

DURING CHRISTMAS BREAK WITH THAT RAIN AND NOW THIS LAST WEEK WE'VE HAD A LOT OF LEAKS AND DIFFERENT THINGS IN PART OF OUR BUILDINGS THOUGH.

NO CHAIRMAN'S DEPARTMENT REALLY MANAGES A LOT OF THAT.

IT GOES INTO THE FUN.

I DON'T SEE ANY OF THE MONEY FOR MY FIELDS.

THE FIELDS MONEY GOES DIRECTLY TO JASON AND CHAIRMAN [INAUDIBLE].

THOSE GUYS MANAGE IT WITH THE GROUNDS AND STUFF, BUT I JUST TAKE THE MONEY IN AND I COVER RACHEL FOR MANAGING JUST LIKE I DID WITH THEM.

THAT'S ALWAYS BEEN THE WAY FOR THE LAST 13 YEARS.

WE WERE ABLE TO COVER IT AND IT MIGHT AS WELL GO TO JOE AND THOSE GUYS TO BE ABLE TO WORK ON THE FIELDS AND THAT KIND OF STUFF.

WHAT ELSE? GLAD WE'RE BACK.

[LAUGHTER] THANKS FOR HAVING ME.

>> IT'S GREAT.

>> I APPRECIATE ALL YOUR GUYS, THE SUPPORT TOO.

>> THANK YOU FOR ALL YOU'VE DONE.

FOR THE LAST 15 YEARS, YOU'VE TAKEN THIS TINY LITTLE PROGRAM AND IT'S JUST EXPLODED.

I KNOW IT'S TAKEN A LOT OF BLOOD, SWEAT, AND TEARS FROM YOU AND YOUR STAFF AND YOU ARE ALL ROCK STARS.

>> AN AMAZING TEAM AND THEY'RE REALLY ARE.

THEY'RE AWESOME AND THEY GET VISION AND WE SIT AROUND AND WE BRAINSTORM TOO, JUST SO WE MAKE IT HALF BOUND.

THANK YOU. WHAT'S THE NEXT SCORE? WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE? ANYWAYS, THANK YOU FOR HAVING ME.

>> MR. BARON ASCII, I BELIEVE WE ARE READY FOR YOU AND OUR UPDATE ON CAMAS H.E.A.R.T AND UPSTANDER TRAINING.

>> COOL IF I MAY WHILE STEPHEN IS PREPPING.

THANK YOU, MARY ALSO IT'S INCREDIBLE. I DON'T KNOW.

ONE DAY I HOPE WE NEVER HAVE TO REPLACE HER, BUT SHE'S ONE OF THOSE IRREPLACEABLE PEOPLE I THINK.

LOOKING TO THE FUTURE.

SOMETIMES I LOSE SLEEP WONDERING WHAT WE'RE GOING TO DO.

BUT THANK YOU, STEPHEN AND JACK FOR COMING.

KELLY'S HERE AS WELL, IF THERE'S ANY QUESTIONS FOR MR. WALLACE.

BUT WE'VE BEEN REALLY PLEASED, KNOCK ON WOOD, WITH THE START OF THE SCHOOL YEAR.

UNDER STEPHEN'S LEADERSHIP AND, OF COURSE, KELLY.

WE REALLY FEEL AND WE'VE BEEN HEARING LOUDLY AND CLEARLY FROM THE COMMUNITY THAT THEY'RE PLEASED WITH OUR STUDENTS, OUR STUDENT ATHLETES, AND HOW THE RESPECT LEVEL, THE PRIDE HAS REALLY RISEN.

I THINK IT'S BECAUSE OF THE EXPECTATIONS BEING RISEN IS ONE OF THE MANY COMPONENTS.

AGAIN, IT'S REALLY LEADERS LIKE YOU HAVE HERE AND AGAIN, KELLY, BECAUSE THE STUDENTS WILL FOLLOW THAT.

IN TURN, I BELIEVE, THE PARENTS AND THE COMMUNITY WILL FOLLOW THOSE EXPECTATIONS AS WELL.

JUST THE SUPERVISION, THE VISIBILITY ALONE, I THINK HAS PAID DIVIDENDS.

AS WE WENT THROUGH FOOTBALL SEASON AND OUR FALL SPORTS AND NOW INTO OUR WINTER SPORTS.

IT'S AN ABSOLUTE PLEASURE.

I DON'T HAVE A LOT TO GO ON OTHER THAN WHAT I'VE HEARD.

BUT IT'S JUST AN ABSOLUTE PLEASURE TO GO INTO CHS AND OUR OTHER EVENTS AROUND TOWN AND KNOW THAT OUR KIDS ARE GOING TO BE THE LEADERS.

AGAIN, I JUST THANK YOU, GENTLEMEN AND MS. [INAUDIBLE] FOR YOUR LEADERSHIP ON THAT.

THAT'S WHY WE WANTED ON COREY AND THE BOARD TO HAVE AN UPDATE ON HOW THIS IS HAPPENING IN A LITTLE BIT MORE DETAIL SO WITH THAT.

>> THERE IT IS. IT'S BEEN GREAT JUST GET TO KNOW OUR STUDENT ATHLETES AND GET TO KNOW CHS FOR ME AND GET IN THERE AND GET TO WORK.

WHAT I WANTED TO DO TODAY IS IF YOU LOOK AT THIS SHEET WITH THE RED ON IT, THAT'S THE EXACT SAME AGENDA I CAME IN AND TALKED TO

[01:10:01]

AN AUGUST WITH THE RED JUST BEING THE UPDATES.

JUST REALLY GOING POINT-BY-POINT AND JUST TALKING TO YOU ABOUT WHERE WE ARE RIGHT NOW, HOW THE YEAR IS GO ON, AND THEN THERE'S SOME OTHER ODDS AND ENDS THAT WE JUST WANTED TO TALK TO YOU ABOUT A LITTLE BIT TOO.

I GOT JACK HERE AS A VOICE, SOMEONE WHO'S LENDING SOME LEADERSHIP TO OUR PROGRAM IN THE ATHLETIC OFFICE AS WELL AS HAS THE EXPERIENCE AS A COACH. I CAN TALK TO YOU ABOUT THAT.

HE'S GOING TO BE CHIMING IN AS WE GO AS WELL.

WHEN WE TALK ABOUT H.E.A.R.T AND WE TALKED ABOUT THAT ACRONYM AND TRYING TO INVEST MORE ON THAT ACRONYM.

I LOOK AT IT AND RIGHT OFF THE BAT I GO, WE STILL HAVE SO MUCH WORK TO DO BUT WE'VE GOT SOME GREAT THINGS GOING.

ONE OF THE PIECES THAT'S BEEN REALLY FUN IS THE ADMIN VISITS TO PROGRAMS, NOBODY'S GOT INJURED YET THAT'S BEEN A PLUS.

WE WANT A FREE THROW COMPETITION AGAINST THE BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM THE OTHER DAY WE TOOK A LOT OF PRIDE IN THAT.

SHE SCORED BOTH OF HER FREE THROWS TO CLENCH IT, WHICH WAS KEY.

[LAUGHTER] IT IS OUT THERE NOW.

BUT IT'S BEEN A LOT OF FUN AND IT'S BEEN A WAY TO JUST ENGAGE IN CONVERSATION RIGHT OFF THE BAT WITH TEAMS AND WE CONTINUE TO DO THAT THROUGHOUT THE YEAR.

I'M GOING INTO GIRLS BASKETBALL THIS WEEK AND EVEN GOT TO GO OUT TO A BOWL FULL OF FUN WITH OUR BOWLING TEAM AND GET TO BOWL WITH OUR ATHLETES OUT THERE.

IT'S BEEN A LOT OF FUN AND IT'S ALSO BEEN A WAY TO SET THAT TONE THAT THIS IS WHAT WE STAND FOR.

THIS IS WHO CAMAS IS.

WHEN YOU LOOK AT PROGRAMS, YOU LOOK AT WHO'S REALLY TAKEN TO THIS.

IT'S SOMEWHAT ALL OVER THE BOARD RIGHT NOW.

WE CAME IN IN THE FALL. WE'RE TALKING TO THEM ABOUT TWO WEEKS BEFORE THE SEASON STARTS.

SOME COACHES WERE ABLE TO TAKE THAT AND RUN WITH IT.

SOME WERE TRYING TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO INCORPORATE IT INTO THEIR CONVERSATIONS.

THAT'S WHY I REALLY LOOK AT, WELL THIS IS OUR FIRST RUN WITH EVERY COACH AND THEN NEXT YEAR WE NEED TO GET BIGGER AND BETTER WITH IT.

WHEN I LOOK AT THAT WORK WE SOUGHT TO DO IS REALLY CREATING RESOURCES FOR OUR COACHES TO BE ABLE TO IMPLEMENT.

I THINK CREATING TRADITIONS WITHIN OUR PROGRAMS OF HOW WE GIVE AWAY HARD AWARDS AND THINGS LIKE THAT, THAT BECOME CORNERSTONES OF HAVING THESE CONVERSATIONS ON A MORE REGULAR BASIS.

BUT I WILL SAY THAT THERE ARE COACHES WHO WERE ABSOLUTELY RUNNING WITH THIS ALREADY.

IT'S GREAT WHEN YOU GO INTO A PROGRAM, THE FIRST WEEK OF PRACTICE AND YOU'RE TALKING TO THEM ABOUT H. E. A. R. T AND YOU SAY, WHAT IS H.E.A.R.T MEAN AND THEY KNOW ALREADY.

WE'RE GOING INTO THE THIRD DAY OF PRACTICE AND THEY CAN TELL YOU THAT.

AWESOME. THOSE CONVERSATIONS ARE HAPPENING.

I'LL ALSO SAY THERE'S JUST A LOT OF POSITIVITY AROUND THE PROGRAMS RIGHT NOW.

YES, WE'VE HAD A LOT OF SUCCESS BUT I JUST FEEL LIKE THERE'S THIS SPIRIT ABOUT OUR COMMUNITY AT CHS RIGHT NOW.

THAT'S PRETTY COOL.

I HEAR THAT FROM STAFF MEMBERS WHO'VE BEEN THERE MUCH LONGER THAN I HAVE, THAT THERE'S FEELS LIKE WE'RE COMING OUT OF COVID AND IT'S BECOME THAT POSITIVE MOMENTUM GOING.

THAT'S BEEN REALLY COOL TO SEE.

FROM COACH'S PERSPECTIVE, WE WANT TO TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT WHAT YOU DID WITH HEART OVER THE FIRST COUPLE WEEKS OF PRACTICE?

>> HELLO. OKAY. MINE WORKS.

>> WE TALK THROUGHOUT OUR FALL CAMP.

WE GET TO START BEFORE ALL THE OTHER TEAMS AND WE'RE OUT FOR FIVE HOURS A DAY, BUT WE HAVE A MESSAGE EVERY DAY AND WE STARTED WITH HEART AND ALL THE WORDS AND ALL THE MEANINGS BEHIND IT.

BUT I BROUGHT IN OTHER COACHES.

I HAVE A LOT OF OLD COACHES, OLD VETERAN COACHES ON STAFF THAT HAVE BEEN AROUND THE BLOCK.

JUST TO SHARE THEIR EXPERIENCES AS TO WHAT HONESTY MEANS TO THEM.

NOT ALWAYS JUST COMING FROM ME AND THAT'S WHAT I LOVE ABOUT CAMAS AND STEPHEN AND EVERYBODY THAT'S BEEN AROUND OUR PROGRAMS IN SHOWING UP AND BEING VISIBLE AND SEEN ADULTS THAT ARE LEADERS IN OUR SCHOOL AND OUR COMMUNITIES.

THEY'RE AT OUR PRACTICES AND STUFF LIKE THAT.

WE TALKED ABOUT THAT EVERY SINGLE DAY OF OUR FIRST FALL CAMP AND LITTLE LESSONS FROM A COUPLE OF COACHES.

THEN I ASKED SENIORS TO TALK AS WELL AS TO WHAT THIS EMBODIES IN OUR PROGRAMS AND WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE IN THE LOCKER ROOM AFTER A GAME, WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE PRE-GAME, WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE IN THE COMMUNITY WHEN YOU'RE WEARING YOUR CAMAS FOOTBALL.

NO SWEATSHIRTS, SO I JUST THINK THAT'S REALLY IMPORTANT TO NOT ONLY TALKED ABOUT IT, SAY IT, BUT LIVE IT.

>> I'LL SAY HERE'S A LITTLE MEAN TO US DURING OUR CHALLENGE FOR THAT ONE, WE HAD TO DO A HUMAN PYRAMID AT WRESTLING PRACTICE WITH ALL OF US TRYING TO STACK ON TOP OF EACH OTHER.

>> RATHER THAN THE SLIP AND SLIDE.

[LAUGHTER] WE'LL TAKE.

THE NEXT FOCUS THAT WE HAD GOING ON THIS YEAR WAS BUILDING OUR RELATIONSHIPS BACKWARD.

THE COMMUNITY WITH OUR STAKEHOLDERS.

ONE BIG PIECE OF THAT HAS BEEN OUR RELATIONSHIP WITH CAMAS BOOSTERS.

THEY'VE GIVEN SO MUCH TIME AND EFFORT TO OUR COMMUNITY.

IT'S BEEN REALLY COOL TO GET IN THERE, GET TO KNOW THAT GROUP EVEN MORE DEEPLY THAN WHAT I DID BEFORE.

WE'VE HAD A TONE OF NEW PEOPLE JOIN, TO THE POINT WHERE THERE'S 15 VOTING MEMBERS, AND NOW THERE ARE PEOPLE LEAVING OR STEPPING DOWN FROM THEIR VOTING MEMBERSHIP TO GIVE IT TO SOMEBODY NEW COMING IN BECAUSE WE'VE MAXED OUT THE 15 AND NOW WE'RE TURNING IT OVER.

THAT'S REFRESHING FOR SOME FOLKS WHO HAVE BEEN IT FOREVER AND WANTED TO STEP BACK A LITTLE BIT.

BUT THEN THERE'S ALSO THIS ENERGY THAT I THINK SOME OF THEM ARE GOING TO STICK AROUND FOR A LITTLE BIT LONGER THAN THEY THOUGHT THEY WERE GOING TO, WHICH IS ALSO COOL TO SEE.

I THINK THAT THEY'RE SEEING THE NEW ENERGY IN IT, AND EXCITED ABOUT IT.

WE WERE NEGOTIATING RIGHT NOW TO TRY

[01:15:01]

TO GET OUR GOLF TOURNAMENT BACKUP AND RUNNING IN THE FALL, WHICH HAS BEEN A CORNERSTONE OF THAT GROUP.

HOPEFULLY WE'LL GET THAT ROLLING.

BUT GOOD ENERGY THERE.

THE CONNECTIONS TO OTHER SCHOOLS AS WELL WITH HAYES, DISCOVERY, CCA JUST REALLY TRYING TO MAKE SURE WE'RE HAVING THOSE CONVERSATIONS.

I WAS DOWN AT HAYES ON FRIDAY TALKING ABOUT SPRING SPORTS COMING UP HOW YOU SIGN UP.

EVERYBODY WHO WAS INTERESTED IN THAT CAME DOWN TO A ROOM, WE GOT TO TALK WITH THEM.

THEN THERE'S ONE KID INTERESTED IN BASEBALL, COMMUNITY BASEBALL COACH ARE GOING TOMORROW AT LUNCH TIME.

WE'RE GOING TO GO TALK TO HIM TO MAKE SURE HE HAS ALL THE INFORMATION HE NEEDS AS GETTING IT.

JUST WORKING WITH THE PRINCIPALS, WORKING WITH THEM AT HOME TO SAY, "HEY, WHAT WORKS BEST AT HAYES? AND WE'RE TRYING THIS ONE OUT.

WE MIGHT TRY SOMETHING ELSE, SO NEXT TIME THEN THAT'S HER AND I JUST TALKING TOGETHER AND MAKING SURE THAT KIDS GET THE INFORMATION THEY NEED, COME TO DO THAT DISCOVERY TOO.

I'LL BE HONEST STRUGGLING A LITTLE BIT WITH CCA AND TRYING TO FIGURE OUT THAT PATHWAY.

BUT WE'RE TALKING ABOUT DOING A ZOOM SESSION OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT FOR THAT GROUP.

SEASONAL PARENT MEETINGS, THAT HAS BEEN GREAT EXPERIENCES.

WE'VE HAD TWO OF THEM SO FAR, WITH FALL AND WINTER.

JUST THE WAIT OF RAIN, SO WHAT WE'VE DONE IS EXACTLY WHAT WE HAD TALKED ABOUT IN AUGUST IS BRINGING THE ENTIRE PROGRAM TOGETHER FOR ONE NIGHT.

I TALKED TO HIM FOR ABOUT 15–20 MINUTES.

WE TALKED ABOUT H. E. A. R. T, WE TALK ABOUT EXPECTATIONS OF PLAYERS AND PARENTS AND SPECTATORS AND TRY TO GET ALL OF THAT UPFRONT.

THEN WE BREAK THEM OUT TO THEIR TEAM MEETINGS IN DIFFERENT CLASSROOMS. THEN THEY GO, EACH HAVE THEIR OWN DIRECTIONS, TO TALK TO THE VARSITY COACHES AND JB COACHES THAT THEIR KIDS PLAN ON TEAM WITH.

POSITIVE FEEDBACK FROM THAT, THAT'S ALSO MET A BIG RECRUITING GROUND FOR BOOSTER.

WE TRIED TO BRING SOME OF THESE TOGETHER.

THE FIRST AMOUNT, I THINK WE HAD 20-SOMETHING PEOPLE PUT THEIR NAMES AND INFORMATION AND TO GET INVOLVED WITH BOOSTERS, THAT WAS GOOD.

THEN THE LAST PIECE HERE.

HAVING GOTTEN TO THIS IS I THINK PLACES WHERE WE STILL HAVE MORE WORK TO DO IS PARENTS SEMINARS AND THINGS LIKE THAT.

I'LL BE HONEST, BEEN FOCUSING MORE ON THE JUST GETTING EVERYTHING ELSE GOING IN THIS JOB IN UNDERSTANDING IT ALL, AND MAKE SURE WE'RE CONNECTING WITH FAMILIES.

BUT I WILL SAY THERE'S AN OPENNESS AND TRYING TO CONNECT WITH FAMILIES THAT HAVE CONCERNS OR QUESTIONS AS THEY HAVE THEM.

TRYING TO DO THAT WITH SOME IMMEDIACY AND MAKING SURE THEY'RE GETTING FEEDBACK WHEN THEY NEED IT.

I KNEW THAT WAS A PIECE OF THE JOB.

THIS HAS BEEN A PIECE OF MY JOB AS AN ASSOCIATE PRINCIPAL OF LIBERTY PRIOR TO THIS, IS JUST MAKING SURE THAT WE'RE BEING COMMUNICATIVE WITH PARENTS.

LAST ONE, OUR FOCUS AREA WITH SUPPORTING OUR COACHES AND THIS GOES INTO THAT FALL, ALL COACHES MEETING.

I HOPE THIS GOT SHARED WITH YOU IN A DIGITAL FORMAT.

I ACTUALLY PROBABLY NEED TO EMAIL IT TO YOU ALL.

IF YOU CAN CLICK ON THAT, YOU CAN GO THROUGH THE ACTUAL SLIDESHOW OF OUR COACHES' MEETING AND EXACTLY WHAT WE TALKED ABOUT.

THERE'S TWO MAJOR COMPONENTS.

I'LL SAY THAT I GUESS THERE'S A THIRD, THAT WAS SPORTS MED RELATED.

BUT THE TWO BIGGER PARTS WAS TALKING ABOUT HEART, AND WHAT WE NEED TO DO TO INVEST IN THAT, AND TALKING TO ALL OF OUR COACHES ABOUT THAT IN AUGUST BEFORE SEASON START.

THEN THE SECOND PIECE OF THAT WAS OUR UPSTANDER TRAINING.

THE UPSTANDER TRAINING LED TO SOME GREAT CONVERSATION IN THE ROOM THAT DAY, TO BE HONEST, JUST BE ABLE TO UNPACK SOME THINGS THAT POPPED UP FOR THE LAST COUPLE OF YEARS AND HOW WE RESPOND IN THOSE SITUATIONS AND WHY WE RESPOND IN THAT WAY, AND HOW WE SHOW LEADERSHIP IN THOSE MOMENTS.

THEN, THE OTHER PIECE OF THAT BEING THE HEART PIECE, IT WAS JUST GOOD TO GET A REINFORCEMENT OF WHICH WE TALKED ABOUT THIS A FEW YEARS AGO.

WE KNOW YOU HAVEN'T TALKED ABOUT IT MUCH SINCE COVID HAS HAPPENED, SOMETIMES GONE BY WE ARE GOING TO REINVEST IN THIS AREA.

FROM YOUR PERSPECTIVE, IF THERE'S ANYTHING FROM THE COACH'S SIDE ON THAT TRAIN THAT YOU WOULD WANT TO TALK ABOUT?

>> WITH WHAT NOW? I WAS RIGHT [OVERLAPPING] AT SKY VIEW?

>> WELL, THAT'S ANOTHER PIECE, MAYBE TALK ABOUT THAT.

THAT LED TO OUR CONVERSATIONS THAT IS LEE TALKING ABOUT.

AS A COUNTY, WE REALLY NEED TO HAVE THESE CONVERSATIONS ABOUT CULTURE RESPONSIVE ATHLETICS.

WHILE YOU FILL IN A LITTLE BIT OF WHAT HAPPENED AT SKY VIEW?

>> I THINK JUST HAVING THE CONVERSATIONS AS AMONGST COMPETITORS AND JUST BEING ABLE TO SIT DOWN AND SEE WHERE THEY'RE COMING FROM, AND HAVING A COLLECTIVE EFFORT ON THAT IS REALLY IMPORTANT.

THEN, JUST MOVE FORWARD WITH, IF SOMETHING'S HAPPENING, OR THROUGH SOCIAL MEDIA OR AT A GAME, OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT, JUST TO HAVE THOSE CONVERSATIONS RIGHT AWAY.

WE COULD UNDERSTAND EACH OTHER AND MOVE FORWARD, AND CONTINUE TO PLAY, BUT LEARN AND GROW.

I THINK THAT'S OUR MAIN GOAL.

>> IT'S PRETTY POWERFUL TO SEE, 500 PEOPLE, PROBABLY IN AUDITORIUM AT SKY VIEW THAT DAY.

HEAD COACH AND A CAPTAIN FROM EVERY SPORT AND EVERY SCHOOL AND OUR COUNTY COMING TOGETHER AND HAVING THIS CONVERSATION AND DR. WILLIAMS WAS A SPEAKER AT THAT WITH CLARISSA HIGH-TOWER FROM EVERGREEN.

THEY TOOK ONE PIECE OF IT WITH THE CULTURE-RESPONSIVE ATHLETICS, THEN REFEREES GOT UP AND THEY GOT TO SHARE THEIR EXPERIENCE, WHICH DOESN'T EVER GET TO HAPPEN.

REFEREES SAYING, "THIS IS WHAT WE SEE." THEY FIRST GOT TO TALK ABOUT, "HERE'S WHERE I AM, HERE'S WHAT I DO IN MY LIFE." JUST TRYING TO MAKE THEMSELVES SEEM LIKE A PERSON.

[01:20:02]

THEN GETTING INTO LIKE HERE'S THE UGLY THAT WE SEE.

HERE'S WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU AS CAPTAINS AND LEADERS IN YOUR PROGRAMS. THEN THE FINAL PART WAS SCHOOL STORES, AND THAT WAS FOUR DIFFERENT SCHOOLS, I BELIEVE UP THERE.

JACK AND I GOT TO BE A REPRESENTATIVE UP THERE FOR CAMAS, AND WE TALKED ABOUT OUR FULL TRAINING AND THE UPSTANDER TRAINING, AND JUST TRYING TO BE RESPONSIVE IN THOSE MOMENTS.

IT WAS GREAT TO HEAR FROM DIFFERENT SCHOOLS ABOUT THINGS THAT THEY'RE WORKING ON AND INITIATIVES THAT THEY'VE GOTTEN FRONT OF THEM.

ONE PIECE THAT POPPED UP THIS POLLS WHILE I WAS TRYING TO DO SOME RIVALRY WORK WITH SKY VIEW WHICH I THINK IS A GREAT STARTING POINT FOR FURTHER CONVERSATIONS.

BUT WHAT WE DID IS BROUGHT IN SEVEN STUDENTS FROM DEVENS HIGH SCHOOL, SOME STUDENTS FROM SKY VIEW.

WE GOT A BAND KIT, ASB KIT, AND THEN SOME ATHLETES FROM DIFFERENT FALL SPORTS WITH SPECTATORS.

TALKED ABOUT WHAT DO WE WANT THIS EXPERIENCE TO LOOK LIKE AT GAMES? SPECIFICALLY, WHEN CAMAS AND SKY VIEW ARE PLAYING, WHAT DO WE WANT THAT TO BE? THEN AT ANY POINT, WHAT DO WE WANT THAT TO BE? THE KIDS, IT WAS AWESOME.

WHAT I THINK IT DID MORE THAN ANYTHING ELSE IS ON THE VOLLEYBALL COURT, THERE IS A PLAYER THAT DAY THAT MATTER PLAYER FROM SKY VIEW.

FORGED A RELATIONSHIP, AND IF ANYTHING WERE TO COME UP IN THAT GAME, YOU HAD TWO PEOPLE WHO KNEW EACH OTHER, WE COULD HAVE A CONVERSATION.

AS A LEAGUE, WHAT WE'VE TALKED ABOUT, WE'VE GOT A MEETING THIS WEDNESDAY, IS HOW DO WE DO THAT IN A MORE FORMAL AND ROUTINE MANNER FOR ALL SCHOOLS BECAUSE WE'RE A 14 LEAGUE, IT'S NOT LIKE IT'S A HUGE LEAGUE.

HOW DO WE JUST HAVE THAT CONVERSATION WITH A UNION BATTLEGROUND SKY VIEW AND CAMAS TOGETHER? THAT'S THE NEXT STEP FORWARD, AND WE'VE HAD THE CONVERSATION OF LOOKING INTO NEXT YEAR, AND REALLY, THIS FALL SPORTS ARE HIGH SPECTATOR SPORTS, ALONG WITH THE WINTER WITH BASKETBALL.

WE DON'T GET AS MUCH GOING ON IN THE SPRING WITH TRACK AND FIELD AND BASEBALL.

ALTHOUGH THERE ARE FOLKS WHO SHOW UP TO THAT, BUT REALLY WANTED TO HAVE THOSE CONVERSATIONS SEASON TO SEASON AND SPORT TO SPORT.

ONE OF THE OTHER PIECES WE WORKED ON IN THAT MEETING WAS LOOKING AT OUR STUDENT HANDBOOK.

WE HAVE SOME IDEAS OF WHAT WE WANT TO DO TO CHANGE GOING INTO NEXT YEAR.

WE HAD TALKED ABOUT THAT FOR SOCIAL MEDIA AND THINGS LIKE THAT, THAT'S ON THE DOCKET TO GET IN THERE FOR NEXT YEAR.

I GOT SOME GREAT FEEDBACK FROM COACHES.

I THINK WE'RE EXCITED TO SEE SOME STUFF AROUND SOCIAL MEDIA PUT IN TO THE HANDBOOK, AS WELL AS SOME JUST HAD EXPECTATIONS OF HOW WE REPRESENT OUR PROGRAM.

AS WE LOOK AT THOSE PIECES, ANY QUESTIONS YOU ALL HAVE ON THOSE PIECES BEFORE WE GET INTO SOME RANDOM ODDS AND ENDS THAT I WANTED TO SHARE IF WE COULD? [BACKGROUND]

>> STEPHEN, IF I CAN JUST CHIME IN, AND WHAT I LOVE ABOUT THIS PRESENTATION, ESPECIALLY THE TIMELINESS OF THIS WEEK, WE SAW HOW SPORTS COULD REALLY BRING ALL OF US TOGETHER.

WHAT HAPPENED WITH THE BILLS PLAYER? GOING ALONG WITH THAT, I THINK ONE OF THE KEY WORDS HERE, STEPHEN IS UPSTANDING AND WE CAN'T DROP OUR GUARD.

I THINK THAT'S WHEN WE START GETTING COMFORTABLE AS ADULTS.

THAT'S WHEN WE SEE OUR STUDENT ATHLETES DROP THEIR GUARD AS WELL.

AS STEPHEN AND JACK TALK ABOUT THE VISIBILITY AND THE CONVERSATIONS JACK, WE ALSO NEED TO KEEP IN MIND THE ACCOUNTABILITY AND MAKING SURE THAT WE'RE HOLDING, NOT JUST THE KIDS ACCOUNTABLE, BUT OURSELVES ACCOUNTABLE AND CONTINUE TO STOP AT THAT MOMENT AND HAVE THOSE CONVERSATIONS EXACTLY WHAT COACH HATHAWAY SAID.

HAVE THOSE CONVERSATIONS IN THE MOMENT OR AS CLOSE TO THE MOMENT AS POSSIBLE.

I CAN SEE THAT YOU'RE DOING THAT, SO THANK YOU BOTH AGAIN.

>> I WILL QUICKLY ADD A COMMENT.

I THINK IT'S SO IMPORTANT THAT ALL OF OUR ATHLETES AND FANS, WE NEED TO KNOW HOW TO WIN AND WE NEED TO KNOW HOW TO LOSE.

THEN ALSO TO BE, WE WANT TEAMS THAT COME TO OUR SCHOOLS AND OUR CITY TO BE LIKE, OH MY GOD, THAT WAS THE BEST EXPERIENCE.

THEY WERE SO GRACIOUS FROM WHEN THEY ARRIVED AND THE DIRECTIONS WE GIVE THEIR BUS DRIVERS AND THEIR LOCKER ROOM EXPERIENCE.

WE WANT OUR COACH AT UNION 1 TOUTING THE SCHOOL UP NORTH ABOUT HOW, OH MY GOD, THEY'RE JUST THE GOLD STANDARD.

THEY TREAT YOU LIKE ROYALTY.

IT ALWAYS STUCK WITH ME THAT THIS SCHOOL HAS A REPUTATION OF TREATING THEIR VISITORS LIKE FAMILY AND LIKE YOU WOULD TREAT A GUEST.

THAT'S OUR GOAL HERE.

>> I THINK WE WANT TO COMPETE AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL, BUT WE'RE GOOD HUMANS ABOUT IT. WE GOT AN EMAIL.

I DON'T KNOW IF YOU'VE GOT IT FROM THE GLACIER PEAK COACH AFTER THEY WERE WALKING, THEY BEAT US.

WE COULD BE INTENSE AND IT'S A BIG THING, A FOOTBALL GAME OR ANY COMPETITION, BUT THERE WAS JUST SOME RANDOM FANS SAYING HEY, GOOD LUCK, DRY SAFE ON THEIR WAY AS THEY'RE WALKING OUT OF THE STADIUM AND THEY FELT THAT THAT WAS SO COOL THAT THEY EMAILED US.

THEY SAID, I JUST WANT TO LET YOU GUYS KNOW THAT CLASS ACT AND WE WERE STRIVING TO BE LIKE YOU GUYS.

[01:25:05]

SOMETIMES YOU LOSE SIGHT OF THINGS, BUT I THINK WE'RE DEFINITELY MOVING IN A GOOD DIRECTION AND THAT'S GOOD THINGS.

>> HERE'S ODDS AND ENDS AND JUST SOME THINGS THAT WE'RE THINKING ABOUT RIGHT NOW.

FIRST THING IS JUST CELEBRATION.

IF YOU LOOK AT OUR FALL SPORTS, IT WAS PRETTY AMAZING WHAT OUR STUDENT ATHLETES LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIPS AND NEARLY EVERY SINGLE SPORT IN OUR LEAGUE, WHICH WAS PRETTY COOL TO SEE A LOT OF STUDENT ATHLETES PLAYING OUT A REALLY HIGH LEVEL, AND WE'VE GOT SOME OF THOSE CONTINUING ON INTO SPRING.

TENNIS AND GOLF ATHLETES WILL ACTUALLY COMPETE AT STATE IN THE SPRING.

EXCITED ABOUT THAT, IF YOU HAVEN'T BEEN OUT TO WINTER SPORTS GAMES YET, GO WATCH OUR GIRLS' BASKETBALL TEAM PLAY A GAME GOING RIGHT THERE AFTER THIS.

THERE'S SOMETHING ELSE AND THEY'VE GOT SOME REALLY HIGH-LEVEL PLAYERS, BUT ONE THING I'LL SAY ABOUT THEM IS THEY PROBABLY REPRESENT HEART BETTER THAN ANYBODY ELSE IN OUR PROGRAM.

NOT ONLY ARE THEY PLAYING AT A HIGH LEVEL, BUT THERE ARE ALSO KIDS OF A GREAT CHARACTER AND GREAT EXAMPLES OUT THERE.

THAT'S BEEN REALLY COOL TO SEE A TEAM HAVE SUCCESS LIKE THAT AND THEN ALSO CARRY THEMSELVES THE WAY THEY DO OFFER THE COURT.

HERE'S SOME THINGS THAT WE JUST KNOW ARE COMING DOWN AND THIS IS A PIECE I TALKED TO JASON ABOUT AS WELL.

TURF WE ARE COMING UP ON THE END OF LIFE FOR SOME OF OUR TURF HERE.

I JUST WANT TO MAKE SURE YOU GUYS ARE IN THE LOOP WITH THAT.

CARTON IS IN WORSE SHAPE RIGHT NOW THAN DOCK, PROBABLY CLOSER TO END OF LIFE THAN DOCK IS.

BUT BOTH ARE COMING UP HERE PRETTY QUICK AND THAT'S A BIG EXPENSE.

I WILL SAY THE OTHER PIECES THE TRACK YOU'RE AT DOCK SAY, YOU WALKED ON THE 100 PART THAT GOES IN FRONT OF THE STANDS.

IT GETS A TON OF WEAR AND TEAR.

NOT NECESSARILY FROM TRACK, JUST FROM PEOPLE ON CLEATS ON SOCCER OR SITTING ON A BENCH OR FOOTBALL GOING ACROSS.

THERE'S LITERALLY PARTS WHERE THERE'S NOT TRACK ANYMORE.

IT'S JUST DOWN TO THE DIRT.

THOSE ARE THE PIECES THAT JUST THERE'S PROBABLY GOING TO NEED REPLACEMENT FOR SOON.

TALKING TO JASON JUST WANTED TO MAKE SURE THAT WE KEEP THAT FRONT OF MIND FOR OUR NEXT OPERATIONS, LEVY COMES OUT THAT THAT SHOULD BE SOMETHING LIKE KEEP ATHLETICS AND THE LOOP WITH THAT ONE.

>> WHAT'S THE LIFESPAN OF THE TURF GENERALLY?

>> THE WHOLE FULL LIFESPAN IS SOMEWHERE BETWEEN 15 AND 20 YEARS, AND THIS IS MY OWN NOT KNOWING, BUT I THINK WE'RE AT 15 RIGHT NOW WITH CARTON AND DOCKS NOT FAR BEHIND.

>> HERE'S BALD SPOTS CURRENTLY. THERE'S NO TURF RIGHT HERE.

>> THERE'S THE MACHINE THEY RUN ON IT AND IT PULLS UP THE PELLETS AND PUTS THEM BACK DOWN AND WE'RE AT THE PLACE WHERE WE CAN HARDLY RUN THAT ON CARTON ANYMORE BECAUSE IT PULLS THE FIBERS, THE GRASS ITSELF OUT.

THAT RECONDITIONING THE FIELD IS REALLY GOING TO TEAR WHERE IT WORKS.

WE'RE GOING TO NEED TO PAY ATTENTION TO THAT ONE.

>> I THINK BOTH DOCKS AND THOSE ARE ONE OF THE FIRST TURF FIELDS IN THE AREA I WANT TO SAY AND SO I THINK THE TURF NOW IS A LOT BETTER.

THAT'S 15-20 YEARS.

>> EVEN LOOKING TO SAY I FEEL LIKE THE ORIGINAL STUFF IS MORE LIKE 8-10 OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT.

>> YEAH. THAT'S WHAT I THOUGHT. I REMEMBERED THAT WHEN MY SON WAS IN HIGH SCHOOL HAVING TO STITCH UP AT CARTON TO KEEP THAT FIELD AND THEN THAT GOT REPLACED.

BUT THAT GETS THE DAILY PRACTICE TO WHERE DOCK DOESN'T GET USED QUITE AS MUCH ABSOLUTELY LONGER.

>> THE OTHER PIECES WE'VE GOT WINTER.

ALL WINTER LONG WE'RE RUNNING MIDDLE-SCHOOL SOCCER FOR THE FIRST TIME.

WE'VE GOT MORE TEAMS AND MORE, AND IT'S GREAT.

THEY'RE OUT THERE PLAYING, THEY'RE HAVING A GREAT TIME.

THEY'RE ALSO USED IN THE FIELD MORE AND MORE.

MARY SAID THEY'RE HOT COMMODITIES IN OUR AREA TO BE ON THOSE TURF FIELDS AND USING THAT.

I THINK AS WE LOOK LONG TERM, WE'RE JUST LOOKING AT WHAT OTHER OPPORTUNITIES DO WE HAVE AROUND TURF IN OUR COMMUNITY TO PROVIDE SOME RESOURCES TO OUR COMMUNITY AS WELL AS OUR TEAMS. I LOOK AT THAT BIG GRASS FIELD NEXT TO DOCK HARRISON, LOOKS LIKE IT'S PRIMED AND READY AS MUCH AS JACK MIGHT NOT WANT TO LIVE IN ACROSS THE STREET WITH THE LIGHTS THAT I WANT TO PUT ON IT.

[LAUGHTER] BUT IT'D BE A GREAT SPOT FOR MORTAR.

JUST KEEPING THAT IN MIND, ONE OTHER PIECE THAT WE'VE TALKED ABOUT AND WE'VE GOT SOME GROUPS THAT ARE STRONG PRESENCE IN OUR COMMUNITY AND WE'RE TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WAYS TO PARTNER WITH THEM.

WE'VE BEEN GOING BACK AND FORTH AND TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHAT AVENUE CAN WE CREATE SOME AFFILIATION WITH SOME GROUPS.

WHEN YOU THINK OF THE TWO BIG ONES IN OUR COMMUNITY AS LACROSSE AND RUGBY, THEY ARE BIG PIECES OF OUR COMMUNITY.

THEY HAVE GOT A TON OF KIDS UP PARTICIPATE.

HOW DO WE CREATE SOME CONNECTION THERE IN A WAY AND WHAT THEY WANT? THEY WANT SOME RECOGNITION AT OUR BUILDING.

THEY WANT TO BE ABLE TO BE INVOLVED IN OUR SOCIAL MEDIA.

THEY WANT TO BE ABLE TO RENT OUR FIELDS AND USE OUR FIELDS.

WE'RE TRYING TO CREATE AN AVENUE WHERE THAT MIGHT HAPPEN.

I JUST WANT YOU TO KNOW WE'LL BE COMING TO YOU SOON TALKING ABOUT AN AFFILIATED GROUP SECTION THAT WE THINK WE CAN CREATE.

IT'S NOT A CLUB, BUT IT'S AN AFFILIATED GROUP AND THAT'S WHERE WE HAVE SOME TYPE OF RELATIONSHIP OR CONNECTION TO THEM.

IT'S NOT SOMETHING THAT'S DONE WIDELY.

WE'RE TRYING TO INVESTIGATE THAT AND HONESTLY, THERE'S A LITTLE PIECE WE'RE WORKING WITH ESD RISK ASSESSMENT

[01:30:02]

ON IT BECAUSE WE NEED TO MAKE SURE WE'RE DOING THE RIGHT THINGS.

BUT WE WANT TO COME TO YOU AND TALKED ABOUT WHAT CAN WE DO TO BUILD CONNECTION WITH ORGANIZATIONS IN OUR COMMUNITY.

>> DOES IT LOOK LIKE WIA MIGHT ADD THOSE AS HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS AT SOME POINT?

>> WELL, LET'S SAY AN OREGON IS GOING TO ADD.

THE RUMOR IS IT'S GOING TO ADD THE CROSS IN THE NEXT COUPLE OF YEARS.

IF THAT HAPPENS, I THINK THAT PUTS PRESSURE ON WIA.

>> THERE WAS ACTUALLY SOME TALK OF THE WIA SESSION I WENT TO IT THAT WAS ABOUT THAT AND ABOUT THE GIRLS' LACROSSE AND BOYS' LACROSSE AREN'T NECESSARILY ON THE SAME PAGE ABOUT WANTING TO GO UNDER THAT UMBRELLA.

>> I THINK IT'LL BE AN INTERESTING NEXT FIVE YEARS WITH THAT.

I THINK THERE MIGHT BE SOME MOVEMENT.

USER FEES, THIS IS SOMETHING WE'RE JUST WANTING TO PAY ATTENTION TO.

THE USER FEES VARY SO WIDELY INTERSTATE.

IT DOES AFTER DOING SOME INVESTIGATION ANYWHERE FROM $60-300 DEPENDING ON WHICH SCHOOL YOU GO TO.

I JUST WANTED TO SPEND SOME TIME ON THAT AND REALLY LOOKING AT WHAT THAT LOOKS LIKE AROUND THE STATE.

I CAN TELL YOU EVERYTHING IS GETTING MORE EXPENSIVE AND NOTHING'S GETTING CHEAPER.

FOR US, IT'S JUST A MATTER OF LOOKING AT WHAT'S SUSTAINABLE FOR OUR PROGRAMS TO MAKE SURE THAT WE HAVE THE SUPPORT WE NEED AND THEN THAT WE DO IT RESPONSIBLY AND WE'RE NOT OVERCHARGING OUR COMMUNITY.

WE WANT KIDS TO PARTICIPATE.

I THINK THE NICE THING WE HAVE FOR US NOW IS WITHIN THE NEW LAWS IS IT REALLY PROTECTS THE KID WHOSE NEEDS RESOURCES.

WE WILL GET THEM THOSE RESOURCES AND THEY'RE GUARANTEED THOSE RESOURCES.

IF WE NEED TO BE LOOKING AT WHAT OUR USER FEES ARE, I THINK WE PROBABLY SHOULD SPEND SOME TIME DOING THAT ALONG THOSE SAME LINES I THINK WITH MEAL MONEY.

IT'S NOT GOING SO FAR ANYMORE, FIVE AND SEVEN.

IF YOU COULD FIND SOMETHING FOR FIVE BUCKS AT A RESTAURANT, YOU'RE DOING PRETTY GOOD.

I CAN'T SEEM TO FIND ANYTHING FOR FIVE BUCKS.

[LAUGHTER] WE REALLY JUST NEED HONESTLY, I WENT TO BURGERVILLE YESTERDAY AND IT WAS 15 BUCKS.

WE'VE GOT A DOUBLE THOSE AMOUNTS TO BE ABLE TO.

WHAT'S HAPPENING RIGHT NOW IS KIDS ARE PAYING OUT OF CASH ON THEIR OWN POCKETS, WHICH IS SOMEWHAT OKAY.

BUT WHAT WE WANT TO DO IS GIVE THEM THE EXPERIENCE AND IF THEY NEED THAT MONEY, WE PROVIDE THAT MONEY.

THAT'S SOMETHING WE NEED TO REALLY TAKE A LOOK AT AS WELL.

THEN YOU WANT TO TALK TO THAT LAST PIECE.

WE WERE TALKING ABOUT IT TODAY IN MY OFFICE AND I ADDED ON HERE DEVELOPING THE MULTI-SPORT ATHLETES.

>> OH YEAH. I JUST THINK IT'S IMPORTANT TO YOU AS WE GET COMPETITIVE, DON'T LOSE SIGHT OF THE WHOLE EXPERIENCE.

I THINK A LOT OF TIMES, I DON'T KNOW IF IT'S JUST THE NEW GENERATION OR WHATEVER, BUT IT'S BEING SOLD THAT THIS IS YOUR TICKET OR THIS SPORT OR I THINK IT'S REALLY IMPORTANT TO BE REAL WELL-ROUNDED AND BE INVOLVED IN MANY DIFFERENT THINGS, WHETHER IT'S BAND, CHOIR, DECA, OR MULTIPLE SPORTS.

I THINK IT'S JUST REALLY IMPORTANT.

JUST TO HIGHLIGHT THAT AND GIVE SOME IMPORTANCE TO IT AND CELEBRATE A LITTLE BIT.

I THINK IT'S IMPORTANT TO TALK WITH COACHES AND UNDERSTAND THAT WE'RE ALL ON THE SAME PAGE.

ATHLETES ARE ATHLETES.

>> I THINK SOMETIMES IT'S SOME ATHLETES FEEL PRESSURE FROM A COACH THAT, HEY, I SHOULD ONLY PLAY THE SPORT AND THE THING IS, I'VE HAD THE CONVERSATIONS AND I THINK ALL OF OUR COACHES WOULD AGREE THAT THEY'D PREFER YOU NOT, THEY PREFER YOU TO GO TO DO MULTIPLE THINGS.

I THINK FOR THE ATHLETES THAT WE HAVE THAT ARE MULTI-SPORT ATHLETES RIGHT NOW, THEY LEARN DIFFERENT LESSONS IN DIFFERENT SPORTS.

I THINK FOR A KID WHO'S IN THE ALL-WORLD PLAYER IN ONE SPORT WHEN THEY HAVE TO BE A ROLE-PLAYER IN ANOTHER SPORT, THEY LEARN A LOT ABOUT THEIR TEAMMATES AND HOW TO BE A TEAMMATE.

JUST REALLY WANT THEM TO GAIN THOSE SKILLS AND BUILD THEMSELVES UP AS ATHLETES AS WELL.

>> I'VE SEEN THAT ACTUALLY A LOT.

I'VE HEARD IT FROM YOU AND FROM COACH RULE ALL THE TIME ABOUT PLAY MORE THAN ONE SPORT, DO MORE THAN ONE ACTIVITY.

I'VE ALWAYS TOLD MY KIDS THAT TOO.

YOU NEED TO BE INVOLVED IN SCHOOL, WHETHER IT'S IN THE BAND OR IN THE FOOTBALL AND DO MORE THAN ONE THING BECAUSE THAT MAKES YOU A BETTER, WELL-ROUNDED PERSON.

YOU MAY BE THE STAR OF BAND AND THEN PLAY IN THE FOOTBALL TEAM WELL, YOU CAN DO THAT.

BUT YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN.

I JUST THINK IT MAKES WELL-ROUNDED KIDS TO HAVE THEM INVOLVED IN MORE THAN ONE ACTIVITY.

I'VE SEEN IT PUSHED OUT FROM CAMAS FOR SURE.

YOU GUYS ARE DOING A GOOD JOB WITH THAT.

>> THAT'S THE ODDS AND ENDS LIST THERE.

ANY OTHER QUESTIONS OR THOUGHTS YOU HAVE, ANYTHING YOU'D LIKE TO PASS ON?

>> JUST THAT I CAN FEEL A JUST A WHOLE MOMENTUM CHANGE IN ATHLETICS THIS YEAR.

I REALLY APPRECIATE ALL THE WORK THAT YOU'VE DONE, ALL THE WORK THAT YOUR COACHES HAVE BEEN DOING, THE PLAYERS, THE PARENTS, EVERYTHING.

IT JUST FEELS WE'RE IN A BETTER PLACE ALREADY.

I LIKE THAT YOU SHOW WHAT YOU'VE ALREADY DONE AND THAT WE'RE NOT DONE AND THAT THERE'S STILL A LOT OF THINGS TO KEEP DOING, TO KEEP REFINING, TO KEEP TRIAL AND ERROR STUFF.

I REALLY APPRECIATE THE DIRECTION THAT WE'RE GOING.

>> SORRY. GO AHEAD NOW.

>> I WOULD AGREE WITH THAT ALSO AND YOU'RE DOING THE THINGS THAT YOU SAID.

YOU CAME IN HERE IN THE BEGINNING OF THE SCHOOL YEAR TELLING US WHAT YOUR PLAN WAS AND WE'RE SEEING THOSE THINGS.

[01:35:01]

THE VISIBILITY OF STAFF AT ALL OF OUR EVENTS.

I SEE THAT EVERYWHERE AND SO I APPRECIATE ALL THE HARD WORK THAT YOU GUYS ARE DOING AND YOU'RE DOING THE THINGS THAT YOU'RE TELLING US AND IT'S MAKING A DIFFERENCE IN OUR COMMUNITY AND ALL OF OUR EVENTS. THANK YOU FOR THAT.

>> WELL, WE'VE FELT THE SUPPORT AND I DON'T KNOW.

YOU TALKED A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THE INJURY IN BUFFALO.

EVERY SINGLE COACH IS CPR CERTIFIED.

STEPHEN PUSHED US REALLY HARD TO DO ALL OF OUR CLASSES.

WE'RE ALL TRAINED AND WE HAVE A SECOND ATHLETIC TRAINER, WE'RE DOING ALL THE RIGHT THINGS AND WE DID A TACKLING CIRCUIT OR A TACKLING SEMINAR THIS SUMMER AND WE HAD 22 COACHES THERE AND EVERY OTHER SCHOOL IN OUR AREA HAD ONE.

IT JUST SPEAKS TO THE VOLUME OF WHAT WE'RE TRYING TO DO.

ANYWAY, A GOOD SUPPORT.

>> I APPRECIATE.

IT'S PAINFUL WHEN YOU HEAR PEOPLE SAY, OH, CAMAS, YOU'RE ALL ABOUT SPORTS OR IT'S ALL ABOUT WINNING.

AT GRADUATION, YOU HEAR YOU'RE THE CLASS OF 20 WHATEVER WHEN YOU WIN SO MANY OF THESE SPORTS AND EVERYTHING, AND WE'RE ALL REALLY PROUD OF IT.

BUT IT'S SO IMPORTANT THAT IT'S NOT ABOUT THAT, IT'S ABOUT HEART AND IT'S ABOUT BEING INVOLVED IN LEARNING TO BE A TEAM MEMBER AND ALL THAT AND NOT GETTING BACK TO THAT, BUT MAKING SURE THAT THAT'S WHAT WE EMANATE, THAT'S WHAT WE REFLECT OUT.

THAT IT'S NOT LIKE, OH, WE'RE AWESOME BECAUSE WE WIN AT STUFF.

YEAH, WE HAVE REALLY SUCCESSFUL TEAMS AND THERE'S BEEN A LOT OF HARD WORK BEHIND THEM.

BUT WE HAVE TO BE GRACIOUS ABOUT IT.

FOCUSING ON THIS STUFF I THINK IS THE MEAT THAT WE WANT TO SEND OUR ATHLETES AWAY WITH. SO GOOD JOB.

>> WE GOT ONE MORE ITEM ON OUR AGENDA, JUST REAL QUICK AND THAT IS TURN IT OVER TO GAIL TO MAKE SURE THAT WE ARE ON TASK WITH ALL OF OUR UPCOMING EVENTS BETWEEN NOW AND OUR NEXT WORKSHOP.

>> I'LL GIVE YOU A FEW MINUTES JUST TO LOOK THIS OVER AND IF ANY OF YOU KNOW THAT YOU'RE NOT ABLE TO MAKE ANY OF THESE EVENTS THAT I HAVE UP, LET ME KNOW.

>> THAT DISCOVERY HIGH-SCHOOL MEETING ON THE 11TH, CONNIE, ARE YOU GOING TO THAT OR IS THAT THE FACTS COMMITTEE THING AGAIN?

>> WELL, ORIGINALLY I THINK DOCK WAS OUR PERSON AND THEN YOU GO TO IT.

[BACKGROUND]

>> IT IS AND WE'RE ALSO INCLUDING MORE STAFF THIS TIME, WE'VE HAD SOME STAFF THAT SAID THAT THEY WANTED TO BE A PART OF THE DISCUSSION SO.

>> WE SHOULD HAVE A BOARD REPRESENTATIVE.

>> THAT'D BE WONDERFUL IF SOMEONE'S AVAILABLE.

>> I UNFORTUNATELY, I HAVE A GAME THAT NIGHT.

>> I'LL REPORT BACK.

[LAUGHTER]

>> WE NEED THAT FIFTH BOARD MEMBER.

ANYTHING ELSE UP THERE?

>> SOUPS BUDGET COMMITTEE ON THE 19TH, I HAVE CONNIE AND COREY.

YOU'RE UP FOR THAT ONE.

>> I'M GOOD FOR THAT.

>> JANUARY 23RD, SORRY.

AT 04:00 P.M, WE HAVE CITY SCHOOLS 4-5 WITH TRACY AND CONNIE.

WE WILL BE CELEBRATING BOARD APPRECIATION THAT EVENING.

AS TYPICAL, OUR ELEMENTARY PRINCIPALS WOULD LIKE TO BRING IN SOME TREATS FOR EACH OF YOU, FOR CAFE YAM.

WOULD YOU LIKE THEM TO BRING THOSE IN AT 05:00?

>> YEAH, THAT'S FINE.

>> THAT'S WHAT I THOUGHT I WANTED TO CHECK IN WITH YOU ON THAT.

WE WILL HAVE AN EXECUTIVE SESSION AFTER THE JANUARY 23RD BOARD MEETING.

THE 26TH THERE'S THE LEGISLATIVE CONFERENCE THAT ALL FOUR OF YOU WERE SLATED TO GO TO THE DAY OFF.

>> IT'S JUST A DAY.

THE CONFERENCE ITSELF IS AT THE COMMUNITY COLLEGE THERE.

I DON'T THINK WE NEED OVERNIGHT ACCOMMODATIONS BECAUSE FOR OUR PORTION FOR THE BOARD DOESN'T START UNTIL ONE O'CLOCK I BELIEVE.

THE STUFF AT THE BEGINNING IS FOR WAUSAU.

IN THE PAST, LIKE WHEN CONNIE AND I WENT UP THE LAST TIME, WE WENT UP IN THE MORNING, AND THEN IT WAS JUST AN AFTERNOON SESSION. THAT'S RIGHT.

>> THE QUESTION I HAVE IS HOW DO YOU WANT TO TRAVEL UP?

[01:40:02]

DO YOU WANT TO JUST TAKE ONE OF YOUR OWN CARS, DO A MILEAGE REPORT WHEN YOU GET BACK, DO YOU WANT ME TO RESERVE A DISTRICT VAN?

>> I THINK WE ALL WENT AT THE SAME TIME. I JUST DON'T KNOW.

I GUESS LET US KNOW, ARE YOU GOING TO BE GOING TO THIS 8:30-10:00 STUFF?

>> I WAS JUST PLANNING TO GO WITH YOU.

>> OKAY.

>> THE ONLY REASON I ASK IS IF I NEED TO RESERVE ANYTHING.

>> YEAH. WE'LL JUST GO AHEAD AND WE'LL JUST DO A MILEAGE.

WE CAN DO ONE OF OUR VEHICLES NEW MILEAGE AND THAT'S FINE.

>> THAT'S EVERYTHING I HAVE THROUGH THE 26TH.

>> THE ONLY OTHER THING I WOULD JUST MENTION IN CLOSING IS THAT OUR BOARD APPLICATIONS FOR VACANT DISTRICT FOUR ARE DUE ON THE 15TH FOR ANYBODY WHO'S OUT THERE WATCHING AND WE'RE LOOKING FOR FOLKS TO APPLY THERE AND YES.

TO TURN THOSE INTO GAIL BY THE 15TH.

MORE INFORMATION ON THE WEBSITE OTHER THAN THAT, THAT IS THE LAST ITEM ON OUR WORKSHOP AGENDA.

I WILL GO AHEAD AND ADJOURN US AT 06:12 PM.
