[1. REGULAR MEETING CALL TO ORDER - 5:30 PM]

[00:00:08]

>> [NOISE] GOOD EVENING EVERYBODY, AND WELCOME TO OUR JANUARY 23RD REGULAR BOARD MEETING.

WE ARE GOING TO GET THINGS STARTED WITH THE PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE LED BY ERICA COX.

>> THE FLAG OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA AND TO THE REPUBLIC FOR WHICH IT STANDS, ONE NATION UNDER GOD, INDIVISIBLE, WITH LIBERTY AND JUSTICE FOR ALL.

>> THANK YOU, ERICA. NOW OUR LAND ACKNOWLEDGMENT. EXCUSE ME.

I ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THE GEOGRAPHICAL REGION OF CAMAS IS LOCATED ON THE ANCESTRAL AND TERRITORIAL LANDS OF THE CHINOOK AND COWLITZ PEOPLE, AND THAT THE CHINOOK ARE STILL FIGHTING TO BE A FEDERALLY RECOGNIZED TRIBE ON THEIR OWN LAND.

NEXT, WE LOVE THESE.

[2. CAMAS CONNECT ACADEMY GRADUATION]

THIS IS GOING TO BE FUN, IT IS A CAMAS CONNECT ACADEMY GRADUATION CEREMONY.

[APPLAUSE] TONIGHT WE'RE CELEBRATING MIA PARNELL.

[APPLAUSE]

>> [NOISE] MY NAME IS MARILYN BURKE AND I GET TO SERVE THE DISTRICT AND THE COMMUNITY AS A DIRECTOR OF SECONDARY EDUCATION, PRINCIPLE DANCE BOSS TECHNICALLY SPEAKING [LAUGHTER] WHICH I ONCE IN AWHILE REMIND PEOPLE OF, BECAUSE IT MAKES ME FEEL BETTER.

I HAVE JUST A COUPLE OF COMMENTS THAT I WANT TO SHARE WITH YOU.

I WAS THINKING ABOUT WHAT DO YOU SAY AT A GRADUATION FOR ONE, PARTICULARLY A PERSON WHO HAS EXCELLED IN SUCH A WAY THAT IS AMAZING AND WE'LL GET TO HEAR MORE FROM DR.

HOLD ABOUT THAT, SO I JUST HAVE A FEW THOUGHTS I'M GOING TO SHARE WITH YOU NOW.

AS YOU'VE GONE THROUGH YOUR SCHOOLING SO FAR, YOU'VE PROBABLY BEEN TOLD THAT WE'RE TEACHING YOU HOW TO THINK. IS THAT TRUE? TEACHING YOU HOW TO THINK, THAT'S RIGHT.

WHAT WE REALLY HOPE, IS THAT YOU FOCUS ON A MORE SERIOUS IDEA.

THAT LEARNING HOW TO THINK REALLY MEANS LEARNING HOW TO EXERCISE SOME CONTROL OVER HOW AND WHAT YOU THINK.

IT MEANS BEING CONSCIOUS AND AWARE ENOUGH TO CHOOSE WHAT YOU PAY ATTENTION TO AND CHOOSE HOW YOU CONSTRUCT MEANING FROM THAT EXPERIENCE.

LISTEN TO THE DISSENT AND DISAGREEMENT IN YOURSELF, BECAUSE TO GIVE IT A VOICE IS PART OF HOW WE SELF-ACTUALIZE AS HUMANS.

TO ACCEPT MULTIPLE TRUTHS INSIDE YOURSELF IS TO EARN IDENTITY, WHICH CONTINUALLY INVOLVES, FOR ALL OF US.

IT'S NOT JUST WHO YOU ARE, IDENTITY IS A PROCESS IN WHICH YOU MUST ACTIVELY PARTICIPATE.

IT'S NOT JUST PARROTING YOUR PARENTS, NO OFFENSE, THE PARENTS, OR THE THOUGHTS OF YOUR TEACHERS OR PRINCIPAL, NO OFFENSE.

IT'S ABOUT UNDERSTANDING YOURSELF SO YOU CAN BECOME YOURSELF.

WHETHER YOU'VE EXPERIENCED OR FEAR DISAPPOINTMENT OR NOT, DISAPPOINTMENT WILL COME.

THE BEAUTY IS THAT THROUGH DISAPPOINTMENT WE GAIN CLARITY, AND WITH CLARITY COMES CONVICTION AND TRUE ORIGINALITY.

REGARD AND BE KIND AND AMAZING THINGS WILL HAPPEN.

I GOT THAT FROM JAMES AND THE GIANT PEACH.

DO ALL THE THINGS, THE AMBITIOUS THINGS, TRAVEL, GET RICH, GET FAMOUS, INNOVATE, LEAD, FALL IN LOVE, BE CAREFUL WITH CREDIT CARDS, AND AS YOU DO TO THE EXTENT THAT YOU CAN AIR IN THE DIRECTION OF KINDNESS.

YOU RECEIVE EVEN MORE ADVICE FROM THIS, AND I'M SURE YOU PROBABLY ALREADY HAVE, BUT YOU'RE THE ONLY PERSON WHO CAN LIVE THE LIFE THAT WILL WRITE THE STORY YOU ARE MEANT TO TELL.

FIGHT FOR WHAT MAKES YOU OPTIMISTIC ABOUT THE WORLD.

FIND IT, INSIST ON IT, DIG INTO IT, GO AFTER IT, AND AS YOU DO, COME DOWN ON THE SIDE OF BOLDNESS.

IF YOU AIR MAYBE FOR TOO MUCH AUDACITY AND NOT TOO LITTLE. YOU'RE ENOUGH.

YOU HAVE UNTOLD STRENGTHS AND RESOURCES INSIDE.

YOU HAVE YOUR GLORIOUS SELF.

GO MAKE YOUR BIG BEAUTIFUL DENT IN THE WORLD.

CONGRATULATIONS. [APPLAUSE].

>> IT'S MY PRIVILEGE TO SAY A FEW WORDS ABOUT MIA.

[BACKGROUND] [LAUGHTER] THE HEIGHT ISSUE.

IT'S MY PRIVILEGE TO SAY A FEW WORDS ABOUT MIA.

THE STORY GOES LIKE THIS, I THINK HER MOM EMAILED ME THIS FALL AND SAID, "GEE, I THINK MIA IS DOING PRETTY GOOD AT EDGENUITY, CAN SHE FINISH EARLY?" I REFLECTED BACK ON A FEW THINGS, BUT OUR WHOLE MISSION IN THIS DISTRICT IS TO SEE AND SERVE, AND IF THAT'S WHAT THE FAMILY WANTED, I TALKED TO MY COUNSELOR AND MY ADMIN ASSISTANT, I'M LIKE, I THINK WE COULD PULL OFF A LITTLE MINI GRADUATION.

MIA DID THE HARD WORK AND FINISHED HER ENTIRE SENIOR YEAR IN A 107 DAYS.

I KNOW BECAUSE THE FAMILY WAS COUNTING, NOT BECAUSE I WAS COUNTING.

BUT I'M SO PROUD OF HER HOW HARD SHE WORKED BECAUSE IT SHOWS WITH ONLINE TECHNOLOGY OBVIOUSLY, IF YOU HAVE A WILL,

[00:05:04]

THERE'S A WAY, AND SO SHE WORKED REALLY HARD, FINISHED HER CLASSES EARLY, AND WE ACTUALLY HAD A LITTLE MINI GRADUATION CEREMONY RIGHT BEFORE BREAK, AND SO I'M JUST SO PROUD OF HER.

SHE RUSHED THIS HARD AND THIS FAST BECAUSE SHE'S GOING TO JAMES COOK UNIVERSITY IN AUSTRALIA TO BE A MARINE BIOLOGIST.

[APPLAUSE] ALSO I LEARNED THAT SHE'S A FREE DIVER AND THAT'S WHAT INSPIRED HER TO GO TO THIS PROGRAM IN AUSTRALIA.

FREE DIVING IS NO SCUBA GEAR AND SHE HAS DOVE TO A DEPTH OF 50 FEET WITHOUT ANY ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY, IS THAT RIGHT? PRETTY AMAZING. STANDING BEFORE YOU IS SOMEBODY THAT'S GOING TO GO CHANGE THE WORLD, DO AMAZING THINGS AND HELP MARINE ANIMALS.

ANYWAYS, CONGRATULATIONS MIA. [APPLAUSE].

>> NOW THE OFFICIAL PART.

ON BEHALF OF THE CAMAS SCHOOL BOARD, I ACCEPT THAT MIA PARNELL HAS FULFILLED ALL OF THE REQUIREMENTS NECESSARY FOR A DIPLOMA FROM THE CAMAS SCHOOL DISTRICT.

>> HI MIA. CONGRATULATIONS. BOARD, MIA PARNELL HAS FULFILLED ALL GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS OF THE CAMAS SCHOOL DISTRICT AND THE STATE OF WASHINGTON.

I WOULD LIKE TO PRESENT THIS WONDERFUL GRADUATE TO YOU ALL ON BEHALF OF THE CAMAS SCHOOL DISTRICT, THE SCHOOL BOARD, AND THE COMMUNITY. CONGRATULATIONS.

[APPLAUSE].

>> ERICA, I'D LIKE TO SAY ONE THING.

THANK YOU TO DR.

HOLD AND HIS WONDERFUL CAREER.

NONE OF THIS WOULD BE POSSIBLE WITHOUT YOU GUYS DOING YOUR GREAT WORK.

[INAUDIBLE] ALL OF THESE GUYS HAVE BEEN GREAT.

DR. HOLD FIRST WAS ASKED, IS THIS POSSIBLE? I'M IN HIS SHOES AND I ASKED THEM [INAUDIBLE] [APPLAUSE].

>> WELL SAID. COULD NOT SAY IT BETTER MYSELF.

CONGRATULATIONS.

I LOVE STARTING MEETINGS OUT THIS WAY.

IT DOES NOT HURT OUR FEELINGS AT ALL, IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO SIT THROUGH THE REST OF THE MEETING.

[LAUGHTER] IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO GO TAKE PICTURES AND CELEBRATE, YOU'RE TOTALLY FINE.

OTHERWISE, WE'RE GOING TO GET DOWN TO BUSINESS, NOT YOU, YOU'VE GOT TO STAY, EASY.

>> THANK YOU.

>> CONGRATULATIONS.

>> CONGRATS. [APPLAUSE].

>> THE GOOD NEWS JUST KEEPS COMING.

WE'RE GOING TO GO DOWN TO ITEM NUMBER 3,

[3. MILL TOWN PRIDE AWARD]

OUR MILL TOWN PRIDE AWARD, TRACY CROWSTON.

I BELIEVE THAT DR. ANZALONE YOU HAVE SOMETHING TO SHARE.

>> YES. THANK YOU COREY. THANK YOU BOARD.

WE ARE SO EXCITED TO HAVE IN OUR MIDST TONIGHT OUR MILL TOWN PRIDE AWARD, MISS TRACY CROWSTON. TRACY, [APPLAUSE] NOMINATING YOU WITH ANOTHER ONE OF YOUR COLLEAGUES MISS AALIYAH WOLF, AND UNFORTUNATELY, SHE COULD NOT BE HERE THIS EVENING, SO I WILL PRESENT THIS TO YOU ON HER BEHALF.

HI, MY NAME IS AALIYAH WOLF, NOT ME.

I SERVE AS THE TRANSITIONAL KINDERGARTEN TEACHER AT GRASS VALLEY, AND I HAVE THE PLEASURE OF WORKING WITH OUR AMAZING PE TEACHER, TRACY CROWSTON.

TRACY EMBODIES THE SPIRIT OF MILL TOWN PRIDE IN MANY WAYS, AND IS BEING RECOGNIZED SPECIFICALLY FOR A SERVICE PROJECT SHE DREAMED OF AND BROUGHT TO LIFE AT GRASS VALLEY ELEMENTARY CALLED KINDER CAMP.

AT THE BEGINNING OF SCHOOL, TRACY RECOGNIZED THE NEED FOR ADDITIONAL SEL, SOCIAL-EMOTIONAL LEARNING SUPPORT FOR OUR KINDERGARTEN STUDENTS.

SHE WANTED OUR LITTLEST LEARNERS TO FEEL SAFE AND WELCOMED IN THEIR NEW SCHOOL.

SHE ASKED OUR 5TH GRADE STUDENTS TO HELP WITH THIS TASK, AND TOGETHER THEY GENERATED SEVERAL IDEAS.

PUTTING KINDERS AT LUNCH AND RECESS, SHOWING THEM HOW TO PLAY GAMES AND HAVE FUN SAFELY DURING RECESS, AND MONTHLY COLLABORATION PROJECTS THAT INCLUDE CRAFTS, SONGS, GAMES, LEARNING, AND PRACTICING LANGUAGE AND ASL TOGETHER.

ALL OF THESE ACTIVITIES STRENGTHEN THE FEELING OF BELONGING, USEFULNESS,

[00:10:04]

INFLUENCE, AND COMPETENCE FOR ALL INVOLVED, STUDENTS AND STAFF.

WE ARE SO THANKFUL FOR TRACY AND SO PROUD OF HER CREATIVITY AND KINDNESS.

TRACY, COME ON UP. CONGRATULATIONS. [APPLAUSE] [BACKGROUND] COME ON UP TO THE MIC, SEAN.

>> THREE MINUTES. [LAUGHTER] TAKING THIS OFF, I JUST WANTED TO COME UP AND SAY THIS PROJECT HAS BEEN AMAZING AND I'M SO GLAD THAT TRACY HAS TAKEN THIS ON.

IT HAS JUST BLOSSOMED THE RELATIONSHIPS WITH OUR KINDIES AND OUR 5TH GRADERS FROM EXPANDING FROM WHEN THEY'RE WORKING TOGETHER IN THE SPACES THAT SHE HAS.

IF YOU COME INTO THE CAFETERIA, YOU'LL SEE THE 5TH GRADERS GRAVITATE TO THEIR BUDDIES AND AS THE KINDIES ARE WALKING BY, THEY'RE WAVING AT THEIR BUDDIES.

THEY GO OVER AND THEY HELP THEM AT LUNCH, THEY PLAY TOGETHER OUTSIDE AT RECESS.

IT HAS REALLY, REALLY GROWN THE CAPACITY FOR LEADERSHIP WITH OUR 5TH GRADERS AND THAT BOND HAS BEEN JUST ABSOLUTELY AMAZING, SO I'M SO THANKFUL.

THEN TRACY, WE WRAPPED THIS INTO HER TEA PET AND SO IT'S BEEN REALLY FUN WORKING WITH HER ON THIS PROJECT AND I THINK IT'S AMAZING, SO THANK YOU FOR ALL THAT YOU'VE DONE.

[APPLAUSE]

>> I'LL SAY THE SAME THING, YOU'RE MORE THAN WELCOME TO STAY FOR THE ENTIRE MEETING.

BUT IF YOU WANT TO SNEAK OUT AND TAKE PICTURES AND CELEBRATE, WE TOTALLY UNDERSTAND.

[LAUGHTER] YOU GET AN APPLAUSE FOR THAT.

[LAUGHTER] YES. THANK YOU.

MOVING ON, ITEM NUMBER 4A,

[4. STUDENT REPORTS]

WE HAVE SOME STUDENT REPORTS.

FIRST ONE WE'RE GOING TO HEAR FROM IS CAMAS HIGH SCHOOL, SERGEANT AT ARMS, JAMES PUFFER.

YOU HAVE TO JUMP ON THE MIC THERE SO PEOPLE AT HOME CAN HEAR.

>> I GOT A WINGSPAN THAT CAN HELP YOU OUT HERE.

>> SWEET. THANK YOU. CLEARLY WE WEREN'T THE ONLY ONES WHO THOUGHT ABOUT THANKING YOU GUYS SO MUCH FOR ALL THAT YOU DO.

GRASS VALLEY ALSO THOUGHT THAT TOO, BUT IT'S CAMAS SCHOOL BOARD APPRECIATION WEEK, WELL, SCHOOL BOARD APPRECIATION WEEK NOT JUST CAMAS.

ANYWAY, WE JUST WANTED TO SHOW HOW MUCH WE APPRECIATE YOU GUYS.

WE HAD EVERYONE FROM BOTH LUNCHES SIGN THEM, SO OF COURSE.

ANYWAY, I HAVE A LIST OF STUFF THAT WE'VE BEEN DOING, STUFF THAT WE HAVE DONE, AND STUFF THAT WE WILL BE DOING.

LET ME JUST GET OUT MY NOTES.

LAST TIME WE CAME HERE, WE TALKED ABOUT WE WERE DOING HOMECOMING, I BELIEVE WE WERE PLANNING IT AND STUFF.

WE DID THAT, EVERYTHING WENT WELL, WE HAD A LOT OF VISITING STUDENTS AND IT WAS A GREAT TURNOUT.

PROBLEM WAS DJ, HE WAS NOT A GOOD CHOICE.

HE LEFT AN HOUR BEFORE IT STARTED, WHICH IS AWFUL BECAUSE HE LIVED IN PORTLAND AND HE HAD TO GO TO HIS HOUSE BECAUSE HE FORGOT EVERYTHING THAT HE NEEDED.

WE'RE LIKE, OH SHOOT. WE HAD TO WAIT A LITTLE BIT AND THE LINE WAS SUPER LONG, BUT OTHER THAN THAT, EVERYTHING WENT REALLY WELL, EXCEPT HE DIDN'T EVEN PLAY OUR PLAYLIST, SO THAT'S ANNOYING.

BUT THEN WE HAD A HOMECOMING ASSEMBLY THE NIGHT BEFORE, I BELIEVE, AND NO, THE DAY BEFORE, AND THAT WENT WELL. IT WAS GOOD.

WAIT, NO, IT DIDN'T, FIRE ALARM WENT OFF, SO THAT WAS PRETTY AWFUL.

AS SOON AS OUR STUDENT BODY PRESIDENT, SUZIE STARTED TALKING AND IT JUST WENT OFF, SO THAT WAS NOT GOOD.

THEN WE'VE DONE BASKETBALL THEMES, WE'RE CONTINUING TO DO BASKETBALL THEMES FOR BOTH BOYS AND GIRLS AND IT'S A GREAT TURNOUT.

[00:15:02]

I'VE HAD A LOT OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THEM THOUGH, SO WE'RE TRYING TO LISTEN TO THEM AND GET STUDENTS TO REALLY BE HYPED ABOUT THE THEMES.

BUT IT'S PRETTY HARD.

THEN WE DID STUFF THE BUS, THAT WAS IN NOVEMBER.

WE GOT I THINK $3,400 ABOUT WE RAISED, WHICH WAS PRETTY GOOD AND A LOT OF FOOD.

THEN FOR MARTIN LUTHER KING JUNIOR DAY, WE DID A VIDEO THAT WE PRESENTED TO EVERY SINGLE ADVISORY CLASS.

SOME ADVISORY CLASSES DIDN'T PLAY IT, I HEARD, WHICH IS TOUGH, BUT I THINK WE PAID LIKE 250 BUCKS TO HAVE THIS VIDEO SENT OUT TO EVERY CLASS AND IT WAS PRETTY GOOD.

IT WAS A GOOD VIDEO. THERE WAS A LOT OF MAKING FUN OF THE VIDEO, A LOT OF PEOPLE DIDN'T TAKE IT SERIOUSLY, BUT THAT'S WHAT'S GOING TO HAPPEN NO MATTER WHAT.

THEN WHAT ELSE DID WE DO? WE'VE DONE HOT COCOA MORNINGS, WHICH HAS BEEN REALLY NICE AND EVERYONE'S REALLY ENJOYED THAT.

THEN STUFF THAT WE'VE BEEN DOING, WE'RE DOING A CITY HAWKINS DANCE. WHEN IS IT? IT'S IN LIKE, I'M GOING TO DO MATH REAL QUICK, IT'S IN 10, 11 DAYS, I THINK.

IT'S THE SATURDAY AFTER THIS ONE AND IT'S GOING ALONG PRETTY WELL.

WE HAVE TWO TEACHERS WHO ARE GOING TO DJ AT IT, WHICH IS GOING TO BE REALLY FUN.

WE'RE GIVING THEM A PLAYLIST AND THEY CAN PLAY THAT AND FALL BACK ON THAT, BUT THEY ALSO WANT TO DO THEIR OWN THING, SO WE'RE JUST TRYING THAT OUT.

WE'RE PAYING TWO CLUBS, WE'RE PAYING CAM TECH CLUB AND SPORTS MEDICINE CLUB, THOSE ARE THE TWO TEACHERS WHO ARE DEEJAYING, THEY'RE IN CHARGE OF CAM TECH AND SPORTS MEDS.

THEY'RE DOING IT AS A FUNDRAISER TYPE OF THING AND THEY'RE ALSO GETTING THEIR STUDENTS INVOLVED, SO THAT'S PRETTY FUN.

IT'S BEEN HARD TO DO CITY HAWKINS BECAUSE IT'S PRIMARILY GIRLS AS GUYS BUT WE DON'T WANT TO PUSH THAT OUT THERE BECAUSE THERE WILL BE SOME PROBLEMS WITH THAT.

BUT IT'S BEEN PRETTY GOOD AND I THINK WE JUST OPENED TICKET SALES TODAY, $10 PER STUDENT AND WE'RE DEFINITELY ADVERTISING THE GUEST PASS, SO TRYING TO GET AS MANY PEOPLE INVOLVED FROM ALL SCHOOLS AS POSSIBLE.

THEN WE'RE ALSO DOING SPIRIT WEEK, I THINK, AND RANDOM ACTS OF KINDNESS IS SOMETHING THAT WE'VE BEEN DOING.

WE'RE JUST LIKE THE HOT COCOA MORNINGS, BUT WE'VE JUST BEEN HANDING OUT TULIPS AND WE HANDED OUT TULIPS ONE MORNING, FAKE TULIPS, THEY WEREN'T REAL, BUT THEY SMELLED LIKE SPRAY PAINT, SO THAT WAS TOUGH.

THEN WE HAVE BATHROOM QUOTES, WHICH ARE FUNNY.

THEN FOR THE FUTURE, WE MIGHT DO ANOTHER DANCE AFTER PROM WE'RE TALKING ABOUT AND THEN MAYBE ANOTHER MOVIE NIGHT.

WE DID ONE IN SEPTEMBER, I THINK, IT WAS REALLY NICE, BUT WE'RE PROBABLY GOING TO HAVE WAIT A LITTLE WHILE FOR IT TO FINALLY BE GOOD WEATHER AGAIN.

THEN SENIOR STUFF IS COMING UP, THAT'S ALL WE'VE GOT RIGHT NOW, SO THAT'S IT. ANY QUESTIONS?

>> JAMES, QUERY, IF I CAN.

JAMES I JUST WANTED TO COMPLIMENT YOU AND YOUR PEERS ON THE HOMECOMING ASSEMBLY.

I WAS THERE AND THE FIRE ALARM DID GO OFF, BUT I WILL TELL YOU THAT THE STUDENTS COULD NOT HAVE HANDLED IT BETTER.

GREAT LEADERSHIP FROM KELLY AND YOUR TEAM, BUT THE STUDENTS LEFT IMMEDIATELY.

I WAS THINKING, OH NO, THEY'RE NOT COMING BACK, THEY ALL CAME BACK, WENT RIGHT TO THEIR SEATS AND IT WAS ALMOST LIKE IT WAS JUST PERFECTLY DONE.

THANK YOU TO YOU, ALL YOUR FRIENDS, ALL YOUR PEERS THAT WERE SO RESPECTFUL DURING THAT TIME, THAT WAS VERY IMPRESSIVE.

>> THANK YOU FOR THAT. ANYTHING ELSE? THAT'S GOOD.

>> THANK YOU. [APPLAUSE]

>> IN OUR NEXT REPORT WE'RE GOING TO HEAR FROM OUR STUDENT ADVISORY COMMITTEE REPS, JUSTIN FISHER AND SOPHIA JOHNSON. COME ON UP.

>> GOOD EVENING, EVERYONE. MY NAME IS SOPHIA JOHNSON AND THIS IS JUSTIN FISHER.

TONIGHT WE'RE GOING TO BE SPEAKING ON BEHALF OF THE STUDENT ADVISORY COMMITTEE, ALSO KNOWN AS THE S-A-C OR SAC, AND WE'RE GOING TO BE SHARING SOME UPDATES ON THE WORK OF OUR VARIOUS SUBCOMMITTEES.

FIRST STEP IS THE UNITY COMMITTEE, THIS GROUP IS PLANNING A CONFERENCE FOR ASB LEADERS AND MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOLS IN CAMAS ON MARCH 22, 2023 AT THE ZELLA BAPTISM ADMINISTRATION CENTER.

THE GROUP HAS SECURED THEN HENDRICKSON AS THE KEYNOTE SPEAKER WHO WILL SHARE WAYS TO CREATE COMMUNITY UNITY AND CAMAS SCHOOLS.

THE CONFERENCE WILL ALSO INCLUDE BREAKOUT SESSIONS FOR STUDENTS TO COLLABORATE ON STRATEGIES AND OPPORTUNITIES WITHIN ASB GROUPS.

>> WE HAVE ANOTHER GROUP THAT'S WORKING ON A WINDOWS AND MIRRORS PROJECT AND THAT'S GOING TO BE HELPING WITH ELEMENTARY EQUALITY.

THIS GROUP HAS SET UP A MEETING WITH PRINCIPAL BRIAN GRAHAM TO ESTABLISH DATES FOR STUDENT LEADERS TO TEACH LESSONS THEY'VE DEVELOPED TO FIFTH GRADERS WOODBURN.

[00:20:05]

THERE'S A POTENTIAL FOR WOODBURN STUDENTS, LEADERS, SO LEADERS AND THEIR SCHOOL THAT WILL HELP WITH THIS PROCESS AND HELM-BOUGH WILL BE UP NEXT.

OUR NEXT GROUP THAT'S HELPING WITH STUDENT EXPERIENCE, WE HAVE BEEN WORKING ON THE SURVEY TO COLLECT STUDENT VOICES ABOUT THEIR EXPERIENCE IN THE CAMAS SCHOOL DISTRICT BECAUSE WE REALLY LIKE HOW CAN WE HELP AND WE DON'T KNOW THE PROBLEM, SO REALLY TRYING TO GET THAT PROBLEM SO WE CAN HELP SOLVE IT.

RIGHT NOW, WE'RE REALLY FOCUSING ON HISTORICALLY UNREPRESENTATIVE GROUPS AND COLLECTING IDEAS TO IMPROVE SCHOOL CULTURE.

AFTER WE'VE COLLECTED THE RESPONSES, WE'RE GOING TO SYNTHESIZE AND SHARE THE RESULTS WITH TEACHERS AND STAFF TO BRING AWARENESS TO HOW STUDENTS FEEL AT SCHOOL.

THANK YOU. ANY QUESTIONS?

>> YEAH. COULD YOU SAY THE DATE AND TIME ONE MORE TIME FOR THE CONFERENCE YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT WITH NAN?

>> MARCH 22, 2023.

>> THAT'S GOING TO BE HERE, WHAT WAS THE TIME AGAIN OR DID YOU HAVE THE TIME? [OVERLAPPING] THAT'S OKAY.

THAT JUST SOUNDS REALLY INTERESTING AND I WOULD LOVE TO PEAK IN IF I CAN.

FANTASTIC WORK, ANYBODY ELSE HAS QUESTIONS?

>> THANK YOU.

>> WE ABSOLUTELY LOVE WHAT YOU AND THE REST OF THE COMMITTEE ARE DOING RUNNING WITH THE STUDENT ADVISORY COMMITTEE.

I THINK THIS HAS BEEN LIKE WHAT WERE IN YEAR TWO OR THREE OF IT NOW AND TWO, AND JUST THE WORK THAT YOU'RE DOING IS PHENOMENAL, SO PLEASE PASS ON OUR THANKS TO THE REST OF THE GROUP AND KEEP IT UP.

>> THANK YOU.

>> THANK YOU. [APPLAUSE]

>> THAT BRINGS US DOWN TO ITEM 5, HERE WE GO.

[5. CELEBRATION OF SCHOOL BOARD MEMBERS]

DR. ANGELA, GO AHEAD AND I'LL JUST TURN IT OVER TO YOU.

>> WELL, FIRST OF ALL, THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING YOU DO ON BEHALF OF THE SCHOOL DISTRICT, AS A BOARD, YOU'RE AN ABSOLUTE DELIGHT TO WORK WITH, I'M NOT JUST SAYING THAT BECAUSE YOU'RE NEXT TO ME.

BUT I HAVEN'T MET ONE PERSON IN MY TIME HERE THAT HASN'T SAID THE SAME, THAT THEY'RE VERY PROUD TO BE REPRESENTED BY YOU, SO THANK YOU FOR WHAT YOU DO.

BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY, GOVERNOR ENSLEY, I THINK AGREES, GOVERNOR ENSLEY SENT A PROCLAMATION THAT HE LIKED ME TO READ TO YOU.

IF YOU'LL INDULGE ME FOR A MOMENT, I'LL DO THE BEST I CAN, IT'S A LITTLE LENGTHY, BUT I'LL GO AS FAST AS I CAN.

WHEREAS THE MISSION OF WASHINGTON'S PUBLIC SCHOOL SYSTEM IS TO ENSURE THAT ALL STUDENTS ACHIEVE AT HIGH LEVELS AND POSSESS THE KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS TO BE RESPONSIBLE MEMBERS OF A DEMOCRATIC SOCIETY AND ENJOY PRODUCTIVE AND SATISFYING LIVES, AND WHEREAS WASHINGTON'S 295 LOCALLY ELECTED SCHOOL BOARDS OF DIRECTORS AND NINE ELECTED EDUCATIONAL SERVICE DISTRICT BOARDS ARE THE CORE OF THE PUBLIC EDUCATION GOVERNANCE SYSTEM IN OUR STATE, SERVING MORE THAN 1.1 MILLION STUDENTS HAVE A COMBINED ANNUAL BUDGET OF OVER $15 BILLION AND EMPLOY APPROXIMATELY 120,000 PEOPLE.

WHEREAS SCHOOL BOARDS PLAY A CRUCIAL ROLE IN PROMOTING STUDENT LEARNING AND ACHIEVEMENT BY CREATING A VISION, ESTABLISHING POLICIES AND BUDGETS, AND SETTING CLEAR STANDARDS OF ACCOUNTABILITY FOR ALL INVOLVED.

WHEREAS SCHOOL BOARD DIRECTORS ARE DIRECTLY ACCOUNTABLE TO RESIDENTS AND THEIR DISTRICTS AND REGIONS, SERVING AS A VITAL LINK BETWEEN MEMBERS OF THE COMMUNITY AND THEIR SCHOOLS, AND WHEREAS SCHOOL BOARDS AND ELDS PROVIDE A PASSIONATE VOICE OF ADVOCACY FOR PUBLIC SCHOOLS AND THE WELFARE OF SCHOOLCHILDREN, AND WHEREAS IT IS APPROPRIATE TO RECOGNIZE SCHOOL BOARD DIRECTORS AS OUTSTANDING PUBLIC SERVANTS AND CHAMPIONS FOR PUBLIC EDUCATION.

NOW THEREFORE, I J ENSLEY, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON, DO HEREBY PROCLAIM JANUARY 2023 AS SCHOOL BOARD RECOGNITION MONTH IN WASHINGTON, AND I ENCOURAGE ALL PEOPLE IN OUR STATE TO JOIN ME IN THIS SPECIAL OBSERVANT, OR AT LEAST ALL PEOPLE HERE IN FRONT OF US, SO CONGRATULATIONS AND THANK YOU FOR ALL YOU DO.

[APPLAUSE]

>> WELL, [LAUGHTER] THIS IS ALWAYS SUCH A AN AWKWARD MEETING FOR THIS, BUT THANK YOU SO MUCH, WE DO APPRECIATE, THERE'S MORE, I DON'T HAVE ANYTHING ON THE LIST, SO I GUESS SCALES IN CHARGE FOR A SECOND.

>> OUR SCHOOL ALSO MADE A POSTER FOR YOU GUYS, BUT WE DECIDED TO TRY YOU.

[LAUGHTER] WE JUST WANTED TO THANK YOU GUYS FOR GIVING US THE OPPORTUNITY TO HAVE PRIVILEGES AT OUR SCHOOL AND ALL THESE FUN CLUBS FOR US TO ATTEND.

WE JUST MADE A POST THERE TO CELEBRATE YOU GUYS BECAUSE YOU GUYS ARE ALL AWESOME.

[BACKGROUND]

[00:25:19]

[APPLAUSE]

>> TAKE A PICTURE, COME HERE WE LOVE IT.

[BACKGROUND] [LAUGHTER]

>> THANK YOU SO MUCH.

>> THANK YOU.

>> WE'RE TRULY APPRECIATIVE OF ALL OF THE LITTLE TOKENS OF APPRECIATION WE'VE SEEN BEFORE THE MEETING, DURING THE MEETING, I THINK THEY'LL PROBABLY BE SOME MORE AFTER.

IT'S VERY HUMBLING AND THANK YOU.

WE DON'T DO IT FOR THE TREATS, BUT THEY ARE APPRECIATED.

SO THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

>> THANK YOU CHAIRMAN.

PLEASE GO AHEAD.

>> AGAIN. LIKE COREY SAID, THIS IS ALWAYS AWKWARD.

USED TO BE, WE GET T-SHIRTS AND SWEATSHIRTS AND IT WAS JUST REALLY UNCOMFORTABLE.

BUT THE BEST THINGS WE GET NOW ARE THESE POSTERS AND THE KIDS HAVE SIGNED AND THINGS LIKE THIS.

THAT JUST WARMS MY HEART.

I MEAN, WE DON'T NEED SWAG, ALL THAT OTHER STUFF.

THIS JUST IN SEEING KIDS FACES AT OUR MEETINGS, IT'S JUST AWESOME.

THAT'S WHY WE DO THIS. SO THANK YOU.

>> WELL, THAT BRINGS US DOWN TO ITEM SIX,

[6. BOARD COMMUNICATION]

WHICH IS BOARD COMMUNICATION.

DO ANYBODY HAVE ANYTHING THAT THEY WANTED TO SHARE? GO AHEAD.

>> COREY AND I ATTENDED A LIBRARY FOUNDATION EVENT THIS WEEKEND AT GARVER, FEATURING FOUR WOMEN WHO HAVE HELPED SHAPE CAMAS HISTORY.

IT WAS SO WELL DONE AND AMAZING AND MARYLAND I DON'T KNOW IF YOU WERE THERE IT WAS A FULL THEATER, AND SO I DIDN'T GET TO SEE EVERYBODY THAT WAS THERE.

IT WAS AMAZING.

I DON'T KNOW IF IT WAS VIDEOTAPED, BUT THE LIBRARY SAID IT'S THE FIRST EVENT THAT THEY'RE HAVING TO HELP KICK-OFF AND CELEBRATE THEIR HUNDRED-YEAR ANNIVERSARY, SO THERE'S MORE ACTIVITIES TO COME.

BUT IT WAS REALLY WELL DONE EVENT THAT GAVE A REALLY BEAUTIFUL HISTORY.

THEN EACH ONE OF THESE WOMEN'S STORIES AND HOW THEY'VE CONTRIBUTED TO CAMAS.

THEN HENDRICKSON WAS ONE OF THEM THAT ALONG WITH THREE OTHER GIRLS, SO IT WAS REALLY GREAT.

>> IT WAS. IT WAS FANTASTIC AND WHAT A PERFECT PLACE FOR IT TO BE AT THE GARVER THEATER.

THAT WAS SO MUCH HISTORY THERE AND HEARING STORIES ABOUT VIRGINIA WAR AND OUR CAMAS HISTORIAN LEAVING SCHOOL AND RUNNING DOWN THE HILL TO GO AND WORK AT THE DRUGSTORE DOWN TO.

I MEAN, IT WAS IT WAS FANTASTIC.

I COULD I COULD PICTURE EVERYTHING AND THE SOFTY AND ME OF THE BEING THE CAMAS LIFE ARE HERE.

I'M TEARING UP A LITTLE BIT THINKING ABOUT SOME OF THIS STUFF.

I MEAN, IT'S IT WAS VERY WELL DONE.

IT WAS FANTASTIC.

SO I DEFINITELY ENDORSE ALL OF THESE LIBRARIES EVENTS COMING UP BECAUSE IF THAT WAS THE STANDARD, THEY SAID IT WAS REALLY GREAT.

>> WE HAD OUR FIRST BUT OUR LATEST BUDGET SUPERINTENDENT'S BUDGET COMMITTEE MEETING.

I THINK JASON HAD SOME MORE ACTIVITIES PLANNED FOR US TO DO.

BUT THERE WERE SUCH A RICH DISCUSSION AMONGST EVERYBODY TALKING ABOUT WE'RE GOING TO HAVE TO MAKE SOME REALLY TOUGH DECISIONS AT THE END OF THIS YEAR.

LOTS OF QUESTIONS, LOTS OF CLARIFICATIONS.

IT WAS REALLY A GREAT MEETING.

WE HAD ALL OF OUR UNION HEADS THERE, COMMUNITY MEMBERS, COREY AND I, JOHN, JASON.

AM I MISSING ANYBODY? MATT CAMPBELL. BUT I JUST THOUGHT IT WAS LIKE A REALLY RICH DISCUSSION.

[00:30:04]

GIVEN THAT BEGINNING, I THINK THAT WE'RE GOING TO END UP IN A GOOD PLACE, A GOOD DECISION THAT I TRUST EVERYBODY'S INPUT AND EVERYBODY'S REALLY DIGGING IN AND ASKING HARD QUESTIONS.

IS GREAT. I DON'T KNOW IF YOU'VE WALKED AWAY THINKING, OKAY, THAT WAS REALLY HEAVY AND IT WAS REALLY GREAT.

>> IT WAS GOOD DISCUSSION AND LOTS OF QUESTIONS ANSWERED AND THINGS TO BE LOOKING FOR IN THE UPCOMING LEGISLATIVE SESSION.

WHICH SPEAKING OF THAT, [NOISE] ERICA AND JOHN AND I HAVE A CALL TOMORROW MORNING WITH OUR REPRESENTATIVES IN THE 17TH LEGISLATIVE DISTRICTS, SO REPRESENTATIVE HARRISON WATERS AND SENATOR WILSON WILL BE ON A CALL.

SO WE'RE GOING TO BE FOCUSING ON OUR LEGISLATIVE PRIORITIES THAT WE HASHED OUT AT OUR DECEMBER WORKSHOPS.

SO WE FOCUSING ON OUR PRIORITIES OF SPECIAL EDUCATION, MENTAL HEALTH, AND THEN THE FUNDING FACTORS THAT GO INTO THE STATE FUNDING MODEL FOR OUR DISTRICTS.

SO IF YOU HAVE ANYTHING THAT YOU WANT US TO ADD TO THAT WE ONLY HAVE 30 MINUTES WITH THEM.

ERICA AND I HAVE TRIED TO KEEP IT PRETTY TARGETED AND STICKING TO OUR MAIN POINTS.

BUT IF YOU HAVE ANYTHING THAT YOU WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT WE INCLUDE, JUST LET US KNOW AND WE'LL BE TALKING WITH THEM AT 08:00 TOMORROW MORNING.

ALL OF THEM ARE BRAND NEW TO REPRESENTING THE CAMAS SCHOOL DISTRICT WITH THE REDISTRICTING AND WITH REPRESENTATIVE WATERS BEING NEWLY ELECTED.

SO I THINK IT'S GOOD FOR US TO GET TO GET SOME TIME WITH THEM, START BUILDING THOSE RELATIONSHIPS.

SO WE'RE LOOKING FORWARD TO THAT.

ALSO WANTED TO MAKE SURE THAT WE UPDATE THE COMMITTEE OR THE COMMUNITY ON OUR SEARCH FOR A REPLACEMENT FOR DISTRICT FOUR SEAT THAT WAS VACATED BY DOUG QUINN.

OUR DEADLINE FOR APPLICATIONS DID PASS AND WE RECEIVED THREE COMPLETED APPLICATIONS FROM FOLKS THAT WE VET IT OUT, THAT THEY LIVED IN THE DISTRICT AND ALL OF THAT.

SO WE WILL BE INTERVIEWING THOSE CANDIDATES ON FEBRUARY 13TH AT A SPECIAL BOARD MEETING.

SO IT'LL BE OPEN PUBLIC MEETING, AND THEN WE'LL BE TAKING A ROLL CALL VOTE AT THAT TIME TO APPOINT SOMEBODY TO FINISH OUT THE REMAINDER OF THAT TERM WHICH GOES THROUGH THE END OF THIS YEAR.

SO AGAIN, FEBRUARY 13TH, WE WILL BE INTERVIEWING CANDIDATES INTO A SPECIAL MEETING.

ALSO WANTED TO MAKE SURE THAT THE COMMUNITY AND STAFF KNOW, SINCE WE ARE KEEP EMERGING AND KEEP BRINGING BACK SOME OF OUR PRE-COVID TRADITIONS AND ROUTINES.

WE ARE INITIATING OUR STAFF AND COMMUNITY TALKS WITH THE SCHOOL BOARD, SO WE DO HAVE SOME IN-PERSON OPPORTUNITIES FOR PEOPLE TO COME AND JUST SHARE THOUGHTS WITH US.

HAVE A LOOSE BUT STRUCTURED CONVERSATION.

SO FOR STAFF WILL BE HOLDING OURS ON WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 1ST, FROM 6:00-8:00.

I DID CONFIRM THAT'LL BE HERE AT ZACK.

THEN FOR ANY COMMUNITY MEMBERS WHO WOULD LIKE TO SPEAK WITH US, IT'LL BE ON SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 4TH, FROM 9:00-11:00, AND AGAIN, HERE AT ZACK AT THE DISTRICT OFFICE.

SO IF YOU'RE INTERESTED IN COMING AND SPEAKING WITH US, WE WILL BE THERE AND READY TO LISTEN.

SO OTHER THAN THAT, I DON'T THINK I HAVE ANYTHING ELSE IF THERE'S ANYTHING ELSE ANYONE WANTS TO SHARE.

BUSY BOARD COMMUNICATION, I LIKE IT.

WE DID NOT RECEIVE ANY PUBLIC COMMENTS FOR THIS EVENING, SO WE WILL PASS ITEM 7A,

[8. ITEMS ADDED TO THE AGENDA]

WE'LL MOVE RIGHT ON TO ITEM 8.

YOU'LL SEE THAT THERE WERE TWO ITEMS ADDED TO THE AGENDA, I'M AN ADDENDUM TO OPEN AN EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION FOR THE SCHOOL CALENDAR FOR NEXT YEAR, AS WELL AS AN ADDENDUM TO THE CONSENT AGENDA FOR HR, AND SO WITH THAT I WOULD ENTERTAIN A MOTION AND A SECOND TO APPROVE THE CONSENT AGENDA.

[9. CONSENT AGENDA]

>> I MAKE A MOTION TO APPROVE THE CONSENT AGENDA.

>> I WILL SECOND THAT.

>> IT WAS MOVED BY ERICA, SECONDED BY TRACI. ANY DISCUSSION?

>> ALL IN FAVOR?

>> AYE.

>> OPPOSE. MOTION CARRIES.

THAT MOVES US ON TO ITEM 10 REPORTS,

[10. REPORTS]

SO OUR FIRST REPORT WILL COME FROM DR. ANGELA AND THE SUPERINTENDENT'S REPORT.

>> THANK YOU ALL. THEY'LL BRING IT UP HERE IN JUST A SECOND, JUST WANTED TO REITERATE A THANK YOU AND CONGRATULATIONS TO TRACI, BUT ALSO WE ADDED A PICTURE OF HER KINDER CAMP JANUARY PROJECTS, SO IF YOU WANT TO TAKE A PEEK AT THAT, SOME OF THE WORK FROM OUR LITTLE ONES, AND AGAIN, CONGRATS, WELL-DESERVED AWARD.

[00:35:04]

WANTED TO REMIND THE BOARD THAT THE COMMUNITY OUTREACH ON MY BEHALF HAS BEEN CONTINUING AND I'M ENJOYING IT VERY MUCH.

HAD A WONDERFUL SIT-DOWN MEETING WITH AMY CAMPBELL, WHO AS YOU KNOW, IS A TREMENDOUS EDUCATOR OF THE YEAR IN OUR DISTRICT, AND IT WAS REALLY NICE TO GET HER PERSPECTIVE, SOMEONE WHO IS SO DEEPLY ROOTED IN OUR COMMUNITY AND IN OUR SCHOOLS, REALLY AS WE GEAR UP FOR OUR STRATEGIC PLANNING AND OUR ULTIMATE PLAN, THOSE ARE SOME OF THE CONVERSATIONS THAT I'VE STARTED TO HAVE.

WE CAN GET NOT JUST THE GLOBAL PERSPECTIVE, BUT THOSE INDIVIDUAL STORIES AND PARTICIPATION, SO WANTED TO MENTION THAT.

ALSO THANK YOU GAIL FOR SETTING UP OUR CAC, WE HAD TO SHIFT THAT BECAUSE OF OUR EQUIVALENT WEATHER DAY, BUT HAD A MAKEUP MEETING ON JANUARY 3RD.

AGAIN, I THOUGHT IT WENT VERY WELL, HAD A RICH CONVERSATION WITH OUR COMMITTEE AND WE'RE JUST GOING TO CONTINUE THAT ON.

BUT JUST WANTED TO MAKE SURE THE BOARD KNEW THAT WE DIDN'T MISS A MEETING OR CATCHING UP.

WE ALSO JUST CONCLUDED OUR SECOND DISCOVERY HIGH-SCHOOL VISIONING MEETING ON JANUARY 11TH.

AGAIN, A VERY ROBUST CONVERSATION, THIS TIME WE ACTUALLY INCLUDED A LOT MORE STAFF, SOME PARENTS, COUPLE OF STUDENTS, REALLY LOOKING AT DISCOVERY FROM A DIFFERENT LIGHT.

IT'S BEEN ABOUT 10 YEARS SINCE THE ORIGINAL GROUP REALLY GOT TOGETHER TO VISION THAT OUT.

REALLY FROM START TO FINISH, AND WE THOUGHT IT WAS A GOOD IDEA TO MEET WITH THE ADMINISTRATION AND STAKEHOLDERS TO RE-LOOK AT.

ARE THE PROGRAMS THAT ARE BEING OFFERED, ARE THEY STILL IN LINE WITH WHAT OUR STUDENTS NEED AND WHAT OUR COMMUNITY NEEDS, ESPECIALLY OVER THE LAST 10 YEARS AND CORRECT ME IF I'M WRONG, BEING KNEW WE'RE BECOMING SO MUCH MORE OF A TECH BASED COMMUNITY.

WE WANTED TO MAKE SURE THAT WE'RE PROVIDING THOSE RESOURCES AND THOSE OPPORTUNITIES FOR OUR STUDENTS.

AGAIN, GREAT DISCUSSION, I KNOW THE ADMINISTRATION AND THE TEACHERS ESPECIALLY ARE SO COMMITTED TO THE PROJECT BASED LEARNING MODEL, AND MAKING SURE THAT AS WE MOVE INTO THE FUTURE, WE'RE KEEPING THOSE ORIGINAL VISIONS AND IDEALS IN MIND.

GREAT MEETING. THEN CONGRATS TO MY COLLEAGUE DOREEN, I GUESS INTO MYSELF, WE'RE BOTH RECEIVING OUR BLUE BADGES, WE HAD A COMPETITION GOING, BUT WE'RE BOTH RECEIVING ON THE SAME DAY, ALTHOUGH I THINK PHYSICALLY, YOU HAVE YOURS ALREADY, TECHNICALLY, SHE HAS IT.

BUT THE REASON I BRING THIS UP ISN'T FOR SELF-CONGRATULATORY, BUT REALLY BECAUSE OF THE COMMITMENT THAT ALL OF US HAVE WITH ROTARY IN THE PARTNERSHIP, I'M LOOKING AT MARILYN AND MARY AND OTHERS THAT CONSISTENTLY ATTEND AND REALLY SHOW THE ROTARY THAT WHAT WE'RE DOING.

I ACTUALLY ATTACH THE PRESIDENT OF ROTARY, I COPY HIM ON ALMOST ALL OF MY CORRESPONDENCE THAT I SEND TO THE COMMUNITY, AND THEY JUST BECOME AND CONTINUE TO BE A WONDERFUL PARTNER, AND SO DOREEN, AND I THINK IT'S JUST BEEN A PLEASURE TO BECOME BLUE BADGES AND WILL RECEIVE THOSE AT 07:00 A.M. THURSDAY MORNING.

WE STILL NEED TO WORK ON A NEAT TIME WITH THEM.

07:00 A.M PRETTY BRUTAL. WHAT'S THAT? THE BLUE BADGE IS YOU GO THROUGH A CHECKLIST, IT IS REALLY LIKE AN INITIATION, YOU GO THROUGH A CHECKLIST OF THINGS LIKE YOU WORK WITH A MENTOR HAPPENS TO BE MILT DENNISON WHO WAS JUST WONDERFUL, WE'RE SITTING IN HIS NAMESAKE TODAY.

WE NEED TO GO TO ANOTHER ROTARY MEETING IN THE COMMUNITY.

WHAT ELSE DOREEN IS ON THEIR COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECT? GO TO A COMMITTEE MEETING OR A BOARD MEETING, SO JUST GETTING ENTRENCHED IN THE WORK.

DID I MISS ANYTHING, A HIGHLIGHT? THE GREETER IN THE MORNING, SO YOU HAVE TO GET THERE EVEN EARLIER, WHICH IS A WONDERFUL AND HANDOUT THE DOGS, WHICH WE COULD TALK ABOUT ANOTHER TIME.

THERE'S A LOT OF LITTLE THINGS THERE, AND THEN THE DUCKY DERBY HELPING PREPARE FOR THAT.

THEY START PREPARING FOR THAT NOW BELIEVE IT OR NOT.

I'M EXCITED WHEN I GOT HERE IT WAS HAPPENING AND I'M LIKE, WHAT IS THIS? NOW I WOULD ACTUALLY BE ANY PART OF IT.

ANYWAY. I JUST WANTED TO BRING THAT UP, CONGRATS TO DOREEN YOU BETTER BE THERE WITH ME ON THURSDAY MORNING, [LAUGHTER] SHE'LL BE THERE BEFORE ME.

JUST AN UPDATE ON ENROLLMENT, WE'RE MOVING IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION, A STEADY PROGRESS.

AS YOU CAN SEE, OUR HEAD COUNT IS 7111 AS OF JANUARY 15TH.

THE ONE ANOMALY YOU'LL SEE IS FOR GRASS VALLEY BECAUSE OF THE ITK, THE TRANSITIONAL KINDERGARTEN PROGRAM THAT'S BEING HOUSED AT GRASS VALLEY, SO THAT'S WHY THERE'S A PLUS 19, IT'S REALLY 18 FOUR-YEAR-OLDS, BUT THEN ONE ADDITIONAL STUDENT.

I'M NOT SURE WHAT GRADE LEVEL, BUT THE REST ARE HOLDING PRETTY STEADY.

MOST OF THOSE ARE REALLY JUST MOVEMENT WITHIN THE DISTRICT,

[00:40:03]

BUT THERE HAS BEEN SOME NEW COMERS AS WELL.

YOU CAN SEE A PLUS 12 FOR ELEMENTARY AND A MINUS EIGHT IN SECONDARY, SO REALLY JUST BALANCING OUT AROUND 7111 QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS THERE.

STRATEGIC PLANNING UPDATE, I'LL PASS IT OFF TO DOREEN AND JUST A MOMENT, BUT I JUST WANTED TO LET THE BOARD KNOW THAT WE'RE MOVING FAST AND FURIOUSLY ON OUR STRATEGIC PLAN.

THANK YOU TO LISA AND YOUR TEAM AND YOUR LEADERSHIP FOR PUTTING TOGETHER SOME FOCUS GROUPS THAT WILL BE HAPPENING VERY SOON.

OUR FIRST THOUGHT EXCHANGE WITH DOREEN, WE'LL TALK ABOUT IN JUST A MOMENT, BUT OUR NEXT GOAL IS TO REALLY GET THE BOARD MORE INVOLVED WITH THAT PROCESS, SO IT ISN'T JUST A RUBBER STAMP AT THE END, WE WANT YOU TO BE ALL THE WAY THROUGH THAT WITH US UNTIL OCTOBER AND BEYOND DURING THAT PLANNING PROCESS.

I'M EXCITED, THE FEEDBACK HAS BEEN REALLY GOOD, I THINK YOU'LL SEE IN THE SLIDES THAT THERE'S SOME TRUE CONSISTENCY AND THE THEMES AND THE PILLARS THAT OUR COMMUNITY, OUR STAKEHOLDERS WANT TO SEE, WHICH IS GREAT, IT'S GREAT GIVING US A REALLY SOLID FOUNDATION TO BUILD THIS PLAN ON.

I THINK THAT THE TIMING OF THIS, EVEN THOUGH IT'S A LOT, WILL REALLY HELP TO INFORM SOME OF OUR BUDGET DECISIONS AS WE MOVE FORWARD.

DOREEN, WOULD YOU WANT TO CHIME IN FROM HERE? TAKE US THROUGH THE TIMELINE.

>> YOU HEAR ME BECAUSE I NEED TO DO THIS.

YOU CAN SEE THAT WE ARE WELL UNDERWAY WITH OUR STRATEGIC PLANNING TIMELINE, AND WE DID LAUNCH A THOUGHT EXCHANGE AT THE END OF NOVEMBER OR EARLY DECEMBER.

THE CORE TEAM MET DURING WINTER BREAK SO THAT WE COULD DETERMINE OUR FOCUS GROUPS LIKE WHO WE'RE GOING TO TALK TO AND WHAT WE'RE GOING TO ASK THEM AND WHAT THOSE PROTOCOLS ARE GOING TO BE.

HERE WE ARE IN JANUARY AND WE'VE SHARED OUR HIGH-LEVEL SUMMARY WITH THE CABINET AND TONIGHT WITH THE BOARD, AND THEN OUT TO OUR GREATER COMMUNITY THIS WEEK, AND SO IN FEBRUARY AND MARCH WE'RE HAVING WHAT WE CALL WILD ENGAGEMENT, AND SO WE HAVE A LONG, LONG LIST OF FOCUS GROUPS THAT WE WILL BE DOING.

EITHER NOTE-TAKING FOCUS GROUPS OR A SWAT ANALYSIS DEPENDING ON WHO THE GROUP IS.

WE'LL SPEND APRIL AND MAY MAKING SENSE OF THAT DATA AND DRAFTING OUR PRIORITIES.

IN JUNE, WE'LL BUILD OUR ACTION PLANS, IDENTIFY OUR TEAM LEADS AND OUR BUDGET NEEDS, AND CREATE OUR DRAFT IN JULY.

OUR BOARD GETS TO GET THEIR HANDS DEEP INTO IT DURING YOUR PLANNING SESSION, AND THEN WE WILL BE PUTTING ALL OF THE FINISHING TOUCHES ON IT AND HOPEFULLY ADOPTING AND ROLLING IT OUT IN OCTOBER.

GOING ON FROM THAT, WE PLAN TO DO QUARTERLY UPDATES AND REVIEWS JUST TO MAKE SURE THAT WE'RE ON TRACK AND WE'RE HITTING OUR TARGETS, AND WE'LL BE REPORTING THAT OUT ON OUR WEBSITE.

THIS IS JUST A VERY BRIEF EXCHANGE SUMMARY.

THESE ARE THE QUESTIONS THAT WE ASKED OUR COMMUNITY.

THEY ONLY HAD ABOUT FOUR DAYS, THREE-AND-A-HALF OR FOUR DAYS TO RESPOND, AND WE HAD A GOOD 300 PLUS PARTICIPANTS SHARING ALMOST AS MANY THOUGHTS AND WITH THREE TIMES THAT FOR THEIR STAR RATINGS TO DETERMINE WHAT THE VALUES ARE.

THESE ARE OUR FOUR THEMES, STUDENT SUCCESS, COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT, EMPLOYEE EXCELLENCE, AND EFFECTIVE RESOURCE MANAGEMENT.

THEY LOOK AND SOUND FAIRLY SIMILAR TO THE ONES THAT WE HAVE HAD IN PLACE FOR DECADES, AND YOU CAN SEE THAT BY THE NUMBER OF THOUGHTS STUDENT SUCCESS WAS THE OVERARCHING THEME.

BUT TOP THEMES BY STAR SCORE, IT REALLY LEVELS OUT.

WE HAD A LOT OF PEOPLE ENGAGED IN ALL OF THE THOUGHTS.

THEY REALLY, ON AVERAGE, EACH PERSON WHO PARTICIPATED RATED AT LEAST 30 THOUGHTS. THAT WAS REALLY GREAT.

STUDENT SUCCESS CONTINUES TO BE AMONG THE TOP, AND I WON'T READ THE ENTIRE SLIDE TO YOU, BUT THEY REALLY APPRECIATED THE ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE.

LOT OF TALKING ABOUT SEEING LANGUAGE TAUGHT EARLIER AND PROVIDING OPPORTUNITIES FOR KIDS TO BE EXPOSED TO TRADE.

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT WAS DEFINITELY VALUED.

BEING ABLE TO BE AT SCHOOL AND BE INVOLVED IN THEIR CHILDREN'S EDUCATION.

THEN THIS IS AN INTERESTING THING THAT THOUGHT EXCHANGE DOES.

WE DON'T HAVE ANY INFLUENCE IN THIS ANALOGY, BUT THESE ARE OUR COMMUNITY DIFFERENCES, AND THEY JUST CALL IT SIDE A AND SIDE B, AND YOU CAN SEE THAT THEY HAVE THERE IN OPPOSITION TO EACH OTHER,

[00:45:03]

AND THEN IN THE CENTER ARE THE THOUGHTS THAT WERE THE COMMON GROUND.

I'LL LET YOU READ THAT FOR A SECOND.

THAT IS THE END OF THAT UPDATE.

ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT THE STRATEGIC PLAN PROCESS, THE TIMELINE, OR WHAT WE'RE COVERING?

>> I HAVE A QUICK QUESTION.

IT LOOKS LIKE WE'RE JUST GOING TO BE MISSING THE BUDGET CYCLE.

WILL WE HAVE ENOUGH INFORMATION TO INFORM THE BUDGET DECISIONS THAT WE NEED TO MAKE?

>> I THINK WE'LL DEFINITELY BE SEEING THE THINGS THAT ARE IMPORTANT TO OUR COMMUNITY AS WE'RE HAVING THOSE DIFFICULT CONVERSATIONS ABOUT WHAT WE ARE GOING TO BE TAKING AWAY FROM WHAT WE CURRENTLY HAVE IN OUR MODEL.

>> AWESOME. THANK YOU.

>> YEAH CONNIE. THAT'S A GREAT QUESTION, AND I THINK EVEN IN OUR CABINET DISCUSSIONS WE'RE LEANING ON THIS THOUGHT EXCHANGE AND OTHERS AS WE TALK THROUGH THINGS AT THE CABINET LEVEL.

I THINK ULTIMATELY THE GOAL IS TO FOLLOW THAT TIMELINE AND HAVE SOMETHING TO YOU IN OCTOBER.

BUT JUST AS IMPORTANTLY, REALLY SOMETHING TANGIBLE THAT WE CAN SEND OUT TO ALL OF OUR STAKEHOLDERS, OUR ENTIRE COMMUNITY WITH THE ULTIMATE GOAL OF ALL OF US TALKING THE SAME LANGUAGE, AND JUST AS IMPORTANTLY, HAVING AN ACTION PLAN TIED TO THIS.

WE CAN SET SOME GOALS, WE KNOW HOW WE WANT TO REACH THEM, AND THEN MAKE CHANGES TO THE OUTCOMES AS WE GO.

ULTIMATELY, I WOULD LOVE TO HEAR ALL OF US CONSTANTLY SAYING THOSE THEMES.

EVEN JUST AT OUR SCHOOL SITES, OUR STUDENTS, OUR TEACHERS, OUR STAFF KNOWING EXACTLY WHAT OUR GOALS ARE, WHERE WE'RE HEADED, I THINK THAT JUST MAKES US CLOSER AS A COMMUNITY.

GREAT WORK. THANK YOU BOTH LISA AND GALE.

ACTUALLY GALE, YOU WERE ON THAT WINTER BREAK COMMITTEE TOO. THANK YOU.

MOVING FORWARD. REALLY EXCITED ABOUT THIS.

I WAS ABLE TO ATTEND THE BOOK BOWL, THE CHAMPIONSHIP, ACTUALLY, THANK YOU.

AT THE PUBLIC LIBRARY THE OTHER NIGHT, AND THIS IS A COUPLE OF PICTURES OF SOME OF OUR KIDDOS.

THE FINALE WAS GRASS VALLEY VERSUS DOROTHY FOX, AND IT LITERALLY DID COME DOWN TO THE VERY LAST QUESTION.

THE KIDS HAD THEIR HANDS LIKE TINGLING OVER THAT LITTLE SENSOR.

IT WAS INTENSE, IT WAS GREAT.

BUT WHAT STOOD OUT TO ME THE MOST WAS PROBABLY THE COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION.

THE PLACE WAS PACKED.

IT WAS AUNTS AND UNCLES AND AUNTS, GRANDMAS AND GRANDPAS, AND JUST TRUSTED ADULTS THROUGHOUT THAT WHOLE ROOM, AND THE PRINCIPLES WERE THERE, AND ONE OF OUR APS, HANNAH HARTMANN, WHO SERVES AS AN API FOR BOTH SCHOOLS, WAS HOSTING AND GOT TO SEE HER IN A DIFFERENT LIGHT, JUST AN AWESOME EVENT.

BUT I ALSO WANT TO MAKE SURE WE RECOGNIZE OUR LIBRARIANS FOR REALLY PUTTING TOGETHER THE WORK IN THIS AND BEING THERE AND SUPPORTED THE KIDS.

THAT WAS A GREAT NIGHT, AND THEN WE ATE TOMATOES AFTERWARDS, WHICH IS ALWAYS A PLUS TWO.

ITK. AGAIN, I CAN'T SAY ENOUGH GOOD THINGS ABOUT OUR TRANSITIONAL KINDERGARTEN PROGRAM.

THIS WEEK, REALLY LAST WEEK, WE WELCOMED OUR FOUR-YEAR-OLDS AND IT COULDN'T HAVE GONE BETTER TO KNOW THAT OUR FOUR-YEAR OLD KIDDOS, WHO MANY HAVE NEVER BEEN IN A CLASSROOM AT ALL, EVEN A PRE-K CLASSROOM ARE GETTING THIS OPPORTUNITY, AND WE'RE ABLE TO SEE THEM SO EARLY ON SO THAT WE KNOW HOW TO SERVE THEM BEST AS THEY GET INTO KINDERGARTEN AND BEYOND IS INCREDIBLE AND IT TRULY WOULD BE A GOAL TO EXPAND THIS PROGRAM, AND I KNOW THAT STATE SUPERINTENDENT RAG DOLL IS FULLY BEHIND THAT, AND I'M HAPPY TO HEAR THAT THAT'S BEING TALKED ABOUT HEAVILY AT THE LEGISLATIVE SESSION.

JUST A COUPLE OF SHOTS HERE.

THOSE LITTLE GUYS, I LOVE THE CHEFS THERE.

PRETTY NEAT PROGRAM.

I CAN'T SAY ENOUGH ABOUT THAT AND ALSO I WANTED TO GIVE A SHOUT OUT TO DISCOVERY.

THEY'VE BEEN DOING THEIR INTERCESSIONS THIS LAST WEEK OR TWO, WHERE OUR STUDENTS ARE ABLE TO TAKE ON PROJECTS THAT ARE STANDARD ALIGNED BUT ALSO VERY REAL-WORLD, WHICH IS EXACTLY IN LINE WITH WHAT YOU SAW ON THE PREVIOUS SLIDE FROM THE THOUGHT EXCHANGE AND THEY WILL BE HAVING THEIR EXHIBITION ON WEDNESDAY AT JANUARY 25TH.

JUST IN A COUPLE OF DAYS, YOU CAN SEE SOME OF THE TOPICS LIKE PUBLIC SPEAKING, PROJECT MANAGEMENT, ELECTRICITY, COOKING, AND MANY MORE.

KUDOS TO DISCOVERY AND THE TEAM THEY'RE PUTTING THIS TOGETHER.

I BELIEVE THIS IS THEIR SECOND YEAR, IF I'M NOT MISTAKEN, MARILYN, IS THIS YEAR 2 OF THAT?

>> [BACKGROUND].

>> VERY ROBUST.

AWESOME. THANK YOU.

THEN A SHOUT OUT SPEAKING OF ROTARY, AS YOU KNOW, EVERY MONTH, THEY ANNOUNCED THE SOPHOMORE THE MONTH AND ON THE LEFT YOU SEE

[00:50:01]

ARI SECURITY THEN SHE IS ONE OF OUR STUDENTS FROM FREEDOM HAYS HIGH SCHOOL, AND SHE WAS RECOGNIZED SCHOLAR SOPHOMORE OF THE MONTH.

SHE WAS AT THE LAST MEETING AND WAS RECOGNIZED WITH A CERTIFICATE AND A SCHOLARSHIP.

PRETTY NEAT, AND I THINK THAT IS LET'S SEE. I THINK THAT'S ALL I HAVE.

>> ANY OTHER QUESTIONS?

>> NO.

>> ALL RIGHT. THANK YOU, JOHN.

NEXT REPORT IS OUR MONTHLY BUDGET REPORT WITH JASON MCKTHRONE.

>> IS THAT OKAY? WELL, THIS IS GETTING PULLED UP BUT I DIDN'T WANT TO GIVE AN UPDATE, LOOKING AHEAD FOR THIS YEAR WE'VE GOT A FEW THINGS THAT ARE GOING TO HAVE A PRETTY SIGNIFICANT FINANCIAL IMPACT, OBVIOUSLY ON THE DISTRICT.

WE'VE KICKED OFF THE BUDGET PROCESS FOR '23/'24, WITH THE BUDGET COMMITTEE, AND I APPRECIATE CONNIE AND CORY'S COMMENTS ON THAT.

IT WAS A [NOISE] GOOD MEETING, I THINK WE STARTED TO KICK THAT OFF WITH THE LEGISLATIVE SESSION THAT PARALLELS OUR EFFORTS HERE LOCALLY.

WE ALSO HAVE OUR STATE AUDIT WHICH STARTED THIS MONTH ON THE 17TH, AND WILL GO THROUGH FEBRUARY 17TH, SO A MONTH-LONG, STAYED ON FINANCIAL STATEMENTS, SINGLE AUDIT ACCOUNTABILITY.

ALSO, THIS SPRING WE'LL BE VERY BUSY IN COLLECTIVE BARGAINING WITH FOUR GROUPS.

THESE WOULD BE OUR TEACHERS, OUR CLASSIFIED STAFF, OUR SECRETARIES, AND THEN OUR PRINCIPALS.

ALL FOUR OF THOSE CONTRACTS ARE THIS YEAR, AND STEFAN, OUR NEW DIRECTOR OF HR, HE'S GOING TO GET TO JUMP INTO THE DEEP END OF THE POOL RIGHT AWAY SO THAT'S GOOD.

BUT THAT HAS OBVIOUSLY FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS INTO THE FUTURE AND SO A GREAT DEAL OF TIME AND EFFORT WILL BE PUT INTO THOSE.

I MENTIONED THE STATE AUDIT.

WE ALSO HAVE A CAPITAL PROGRAM UPDATE I WANT TO LET YOU KNOW WITH THE CAPITAL LEVY WE COMMITTED TO ROOF IMPROVEMENTS, FIRE PROTECTION SYSTEMS, AND BOILERS.

WE'RE HITTING THAT NEXT CONSTRUCTION PHASE AND SO ALL OF THAT WORK WE'RE GETTING INTO QUEUES SO WE CAN CONTINUE TO DEPLOY THOSE CAPITAL LEVY DOLLARS AND SO OUR COMMUNITY WILL SEE SOME NEW ROOF IMPROVEMENTS AND NEW BOILERS, I SHOULD SAY AT SKYRIDGE MIDDLE SCHOOL.

THEN OUR CAPITAL FACILITIES PLAN ABOUT A YEAR AGO, I THINK WE STARTED THAT PROCESS AND AGAIN, THIS IS A SIX-YEAR UPDATE AND WE GO AROUND AND WE PRESENT THIS PLAN THAT YOU APPROVED IN MAY OF LAST YEAR TO THE DIFFERENT MUNICIPALITIES THAT COLLECT IMPACT FEES ON OUR BEHALF.

I'M HAPPY TO SAY THAT ALL THE CITIES HAVE APPROVED CAMAS, WASHOUGAL, VANCOUVER, AND NOW THE FOURTH ONE IS CLARK COUNTY.

NOW THEIR CYCLE FOR UPDATING THEIR OWN COMPREHENSIVE PLAN WILL BE THIS SUMMER.

WE'VE GOT ONE LAST JURISDICTION BUT I'M HAPPY TO AT LEAST HAVE GOTTEN THROUGH THEIR PLANNING COMMISSIONS AND THEN THEIR RESPECTIVE GOVERNING BOARDS OR COUNCILS, I SHOULD SAY.

LOOKING AHEAD AT THE CAPITAL PROGRAM AS A WHOLE, WE SHOULD PROBABLY HAVE A BIT OF A WORKSHOP ON THAT TO TALK ABOUT THE CAPITAL NEEDS GOING FORWARD AND THERE'S NOT AN IMMEDIATE RUSH, BUT PROBABLY IN THIS NEXT SIX MONTHS TIME-FRAME, I KNOW THAT SOMETIMES WE TALK ABOUT IT IN THE BOARD OR TREAT IN THE SUMMER AND STUFF LIKE THAT.

BUT I'M JUST WANTING TO BRING THAT UP FOR THE SCHOOL BOARD THAT'S SOMETHING THAT WE SHOULD PLAN AHEAD TO DO.

THEN THE REPLACEMENT LEVIES, IN ABOUT 12 MONTHS ROUGHLY FROM NOW WE WILL BE RUNNING OUR REPLACEMENT LEVIES FOR OUR OPERATIONS AND CAPITAL ON TECH LEVIES SO THAT PLANNING WILL PROBABLY START HERE PRETTY SOON.

WE'RE USUALLY ABOUT 12 MONTHS IN ADVANCE.

[00:55:03]

WE WILL BE PAYING CLOSE ATTENTION TO THE OTHER LOCAL LEVIES THAT'LL BE ON THE BALLOT THIS NEXT MONTH AND ANY OF THOSE THAT WILL BE ON THE BALLOT IN THE COMING MONTHS.

ANY QUESTIONS ON THIS? BUDGET STATUS REPORT.

WE'RE GOING TO GET YOU CAUGHT UP BECAUSE WITH THE HOLIDAY WE SKIPPED A MONTH THERE, SO WE HAD NOVEMBER AND DECEMBER.

IN THOSE TWO MONTHS, GENERAL FUND PRETTY MUCH TRACKING AS YOU WOULD EXPECT.

ONE OF THE THINGS YOU'LL SEE IN NOVEMBER, THERE WAS A LARGE DEFICIT AND THAT'S BECAUSE OUR STATE APPORTIONMENT IS REALLY LOW THAT MONTH AND WE ONLY GET FIVE PERCENT OF OUR ANNUAL REVENUES THAT PARTICULAR MONTH FROM THE STATE SO THAT HAS AN IMPACT ON OUR CASH FLOW WE HAVE TO COVER THAT LOCALLY.

THEN ON THE DEBT SERVICE, IT'S ALSO WORTH NOTING THAT WE MAKE SEMIANNUAL DEBT SERVICE PAYMENTS IN DECEMBER, AND JUNE SO WE'VE MADE OUR PRINCIPAL AND INTEREST PAYMENT AS REQUIRED IN DECEMBER.

THE CAPITAL PROJECTS, TRANSPORTATION, ASB, PRETTY NORMAL ACTIVITY, NOT A LOT TO REPORT IN ANY OF THOSE PARTICULAR FUNDS.

AFTER THIS, I'VE GOT OTHER SLIDES THAT SPEAK TO OUR PROJECTION OF WHERE I THINK WE'RE GOING TO LAND.

RIGHT NOW WE'RE PROJECTING ABOUT A $5.2 MILLION DEFICIT, WHICH WE HAD PLANNED TO USE FUND BALANCE FOR AND THERE'S A FEW OTHER SLIDES THAT GO INTO SOME FURTHER DETAIL ON REVENUES AND EXPENDITURES, I WON'T GO INTO THAT BECAUSE I SHARED THAT BACK IN I THINK NOVEMBER, THIS IS REALLY JUST AN UPDATE TO THOSE.

THE ONLY REAL THING THAT I WOULD EXPECT THAT MAY AFFECT THIS PROJECTION GOING AHEAD, YOU COULD SEE EXPENDITURES EITHER THROTTLE UP OR THROTTLE DOWN BASED UPON MAYBE VACANT POSITIONS OR STUDENT NEEDS.

THE OTHER THING IS THAT EVEN MIND THAT THE STATE OF WASHINGTON WILL DO A FUNDING TRUE UP TO OUR ACTUAL ENROLLMENT AND THAT STARTS THIS MONTH AND THEN BASICALLY THEY SPREAD THAT OVER THE REMAINDER OF THE FISCAL YEAR.

THAT COULD MODIFY THIS A LITTLE BIT OTHERWISE, WE TEND TO SETTLE IN ENROLLMENT-WISE FOR THE YEAR AND THERE TENDS TO BE FAIRLY NOMINAL CHANGES THE REST OF THE WAY THROUGH.

>> JUST ONE QUESTION ON THAT.

JOHN TALKED ABOUT ENROLLMENT A COUPLE OF MINUTES AGO AND I KNOW A LOT OF THAT TRIP HAS TO DO WITH ENROLLMENT.

ARE YOU EXPECTING THAT TRUE-UP TO BE PRETTY MINIMAL OR IS THAT SOMETHING YOU CAN PROJECT?

>> WE TRY TO PROJECT BUT KEEP IN MIND THAT FUNDING FORMULA IS VERY COMPLEX AND IT'S ACROSS SEVERAL DIFFERENT PROGRAMS. THEY'RE GOING TO TRUE UP SPECIAL ED, BASIC ED, AND ALL OF OUR LAP FUNDING AND STUFF LIKE THAT.

WE FEEL PRETTY GOOD BUT IT COULD BE WITHIN A COUPLE OF 100,000 WOULD BE MY REASONABLE EXPECTATION.

ANY OTHER QUESTIONS ON THAT?

>> THE ONLY OTHER THING I WOULD JUST ASK IS JUST IN TERMS OF WITH OUR PLAN, WE KNEW OF LEADING INTO THESE NEXT COUPLE OF YEARS, ONE OF OUR TARGETS WAS KEEPING OUR EXPENSE GROWTH TO A TWO PERCENT.

ARE WE DOING PRETTY WELL ON THAT?

>> THAT WAS ASSOCIATED REALLY WITH THE FUTURE YEARS TO ONE AND ONE, I THINK THAT'S GOING TO BE VERY CHALLENGING GIVEN THIS HISTORIC INFLATION PERIOD THAT WE'VE BEEN GOING THROUGH.

THAT'S REALLY LOOKING AT THE '23, '24 YEAR WE WERE LOOKING AT GAP AND THINGS.

THE OTHER SIDE TO THAT THOUGH IS BECAUSE OF INFLATION BEING SO HIGH, THERE IS AN INFLATIONARY FACTOR WITHIN THE FUNDING FORMULA FOR THE STATE OF WASHINGTON.

OUR STATE FUNDING THEORETICALLY SHOULD GO UP A TICK BECAUSE OF THE HIGHER INFLATION.

NOW THE TRICK FOR US IS TO MAKE SURE THAT OUR EXPENDITURES DON'T OUTPACE THOSE REVENUES IN THE FUTURE BECAUSE WE HAVE TO FIX THIS DEFICIT MODEL THAT WE'VE GOT.

>> BUT YOU STILL FEEL LIKE THOSE TARGET GOALS ARE DIFFICULT BUT ATTAINABLE?

>> IT'S GOING TO BE A HIGHER PERCENTAGE THAN TWO, FOR SURE.

CPI HAS BEEN RUNNING NINE PERCENT AND CONSUMER PRICE INDEX LETS SAY AND THE IPD, WHICH IS THE OTHER INFLATION INDEX, IS PREDICTED TO BE AROUND 5.5 PERCENT ROUGHLY.

[01:00:02]

THAT'S REALLY WHAT DRIVES OUR FUNDING SIDE OF THE HOUSE.

WE HAVE TO BE REALLY COGNIZANT OF THOSE.

BUT BACK WHEN WE DID OUR BUDGET THERE WAS SPECULATION OF INFLATION BUT CERTAINLY NOT 12 MONTHS OF WHAT WE'VE SEEN THAT'S CERTAINLY UNUSUAL. THAT'S ALL I HAVE.

>> ANY OTHER QUESTIONS FOR JASON?

>> THANK YOU. OUR THIRD REPORT IS OUR ANNUAL CCA ALTERNATIVE LEARNING EXPERIENCE COURSE REPORT FROM DR. DAN HOLD.

>> WELL, SHE'S GETTING OUT LOADED.

I WANTED TO PERSONALLY SAY THANK YOU TO YOU GUYS.

I CAME ON IN THE MIDDLE OF COVID, THOSE WERE DEFINITELY SOME INTERESTING TIMES FOR BOARD MEMBERS.

I SAW YOU ALL KEEP YOUR HEART IN THE RIGHT PLACE AND IT WAS AWESOME TO SEE CONNIE CHEER UP A LITTLE BIT.

I KNOW ALL YOU HAVE THAT HEART.

THANK YOU FOR ALL YOU DO FOR US AND YOU'VE BEEN SO SUPPORTIVE AT CCA, IN LISTENING TO MY REPORTS AND EVERYTHING.

THANK YOU. APPRECIATE YOU GUYS.

PART OF THE REASON THAT I'M HERE TONIGHT IS WE'VE BEEN TAKING A DEEP DIVE INTO THE ALE POLICIES, THAT'S THE ALTERNATIVE LEARNING EXPERIENCE POLICY WITH WASHINGTON STATE.

ONE OF THE REQUIREMENTS IS TO HAVE AN ANNUAL UPDATE TO THE BOARD SO YOU ALL CAN HAVE THE INFORMATION ABOUT HOW THE PROGRAM IS GOING.

THESE ARE THE ELEMENTS THAT ARE REQUIRED.

I THINK I DID MOST OF THIS LAST YEAR, BUT I'LL DOUBLE CHECK JUST TO MAKE SURE THAT WE ARE IN COMPLIANCE WITH EVERYTHING.

BUT THE FIRST THING I WANTED TO TALK ABOUT WITH CCA IS THAT I'M REALLY TRYING TO MAKE IT MORE THAN COMPUTERS.

WE DO HAVE MONTHLY ACTIVITIES THAT ARE HAPPENING EVERY SINGLE MONTH.

I'VE BEEN THE DRIVING FORCE BEHIND THAT BECAUSE I KNOW WHAT'S SO IMPORTANT FOR STUDENTS' HEALTH AND JUST CREATING A VIBRANT COMMUNITY.

WE'VE GONE HIKING, WE'VE GONE TO THE PUMPKIN PATCH, WE'VE GONE TO [INAUDIBLE].

WE ACTUALLY HAD, THAT SOUNDS SCARY BUT A MURDER HORNETS EXPERIENCE FOR ONE OF THE SCIENTISTS OR BEEKEEPERS WHO DISCOVERED THE MURDER HORNETS.

I DON'T KNOW IF YOU REMEMBER THAT, IT WAS LIKE COVID HAPPENED AND THEN LOCUS AND THE MURDER HORNETS AND YOU'RE LIKE, WHAT'S NEXT? ANYWAY SHE CAME AND SHARED WITH OUR MIDDLE SCHOOL KIDS AND ALSO I PARTNERED WITH ODYSSEY ON THAT EXPERIENCE.

THEY BROUGHT THE BEE SUIT THAT THEY USE TO GO AND CAPTURE THE MURDER HORNETS.

LOTS OF FUN STUFF THAT WE'RE TRYING TO DO HERE OUTSIDE OF JUST EDGENUITY BECAUSE I KNOW IS A LONG TIME ONLINE EDUCATOR.

YOU CAN'T JUST SURVIVE ON THE ONLINE CURRICULUM.

IT'S ABOUT THE RELATIONSHIPS.

I'M STARTING TO GET THOSE REPORTS FROM PEOPLE LIKE, WELL, EDGENUITY IS OKAY, BUT CCH STAFF IS WHAT MAKES IT MEANINGFUL FOR US.

THAT'S WHAT WE'RE TRYING TO DO HERE.

THERE'S THE POLICY HERE, WHY I'M SUPPOSED TO GO INTO THE REPORT, THEN I WAS ALSO SUPPOSED TO CHECK SO YOU GUYS WERE IN COMPLIANCE AND YOU HAVE YOUR POLICY IN PLACE THAT REFERS TO OUR PROGRAM AND WHAT WE'RE SUPPOSED TO DO.

THAT WAS ONE OF THE THINGS ON THE STATE AUDIT THAT I'M GETTING READY FOR.

THEN OUR POPTOA, I ALWAYS LIKE TO HAVE A BIT OF A 3-DIMENSIONAL POPTOA.

IT'S NOT ALWAYS JUST FOCUSED ON ACHIEVEMENT, BUT I KNOW THAT IT'S GOING TO TAKE YEARS TO BUILD CCA.

THE FIRST GOAL WAS REALLY REFINING WHAT WE DID LAST YEAR.

WE'VE BEEN SPENDING A LOT OF TIME IN COMPLIANCE AND TRYING TO MAKE SURE THAT WHAT WE'RE DOING IS IN ALIGNMENT WITH THE STATE.

WE HAVE A MOCK AUDITS SCHEDULED FOR MARCH.

SOMEBODY IS COMING FROM OSPI JUST TO TEST THIS OUT AND SEE HOW WE DO.

WE DID THAT JUST TO MAKE SURE THAT WE'RE READY FOR WHENEVER THE REAL AUDIT COMES.

ENROLLMENT UPDATE, THIS IS PROBABLY WHERE GOOD INFORMATION AND CONVERSATION WILL OCCUR.

AGAIN, I'M WANTING TO MAKE SURE THAT YOU ALL HAVE GOOD ACCURATE INFORMATION ABOUT CCA.

YOU CAN SEE THERE'S THIS LOTS OF MOVEMENT WITHIN OUR ENROLLMENT OVER THE COURSE OF TIME.

I CAN WALK YOU THROUGH THE DIFFERENT EVENTS HERE.

IF YOU GO BACK TO THE VERY 1ST AUGUST, WE STARTED WITH ABOUT 68 STUDENTS.

THEN WE HAD A BIT OF A SPIKE WHEN EVERYONE WAS TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHAT'S GOING TO HAPPEN WITH MASS? ARE PEOPLE GOING TO COME BACK TO SCHOOL? ET CETERA.

OUR PEAK, AT LEAST AS LONG AS I'VE BEEN HERE IN ELEMENTARY WAS ABOUT 91.

THEN WHEN THE VACCINE WAS APPROVED FOR YOUNGER STUDENTS, I HAD THAT DIP AT THE END OF DECEMBER LAST YEAR.

WE HOVERED AROUND 70 FOR THE REST OF THE YEAR.

THEN OVER THE SUMMER, THE DATA THAT I HAD, I THOUGHT THAT WE WOULD HAVE ABOUT 50 ELEMENTARY STUDENTS COMING BACK, BUT YOU CAN SEE THAT NUMBER HAS CHANGED.

[01:05:02]

I HAVE LOTS OF IDEAS ABOUT THIS, BUT I THINK AS A PERSON WHO'S BEEN IN SCHOOL CHOICE FOR A LONG TIME, YOU HAVE TO HAVE A PROGRAM THAT FITS IN.

I THINK THAT JUST BEING CLEAR WITH YOU, THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL PROGRAMS HERE ARE REALLY STRONG.

I THINK ESPECIALLY AFTER COVID, A LOT OF PARENTS WANT TO HAVE THEIR ELEMENTARY KIDS IN SCHOOL BUILDINGS.

I HAVE A TEEN ELEMENTARY PROGRAM.

WE SCALED BACK TO TWO TEACHERS WHO ARE TEACHING K1, 2, 3, 4, AND 5, ON ZOOM.

THEY DO 45 MINUTES WITH ONE GROUP, 45 MINUTES WITH THE NEXT GROUP, AND GO ALL THE WAY THROUGH MATH AND ENGLISH, THAT'S THEIR DAY EVERY DAY.

THEY'RE ON ZOOM A LOT.

BUT YES, I HAVE 27 KIDS IN MY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, THAT'S IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR YOU TO HAVE.

SECONDARY, WE CAME INTO THIS YEAR WITH A LOT OF STUDENTS TRANSITIONING BACK TO BRICK AND MORTAR SETTINGS.

WE ACTUALLY CAME INTO THIS YEAR WITH 91 STUDENTS.

RIGHT NOW WE'RE SERVING 206.

BUT THE HEAD COUNT IS 188 BECAUSE WE DO HAVE A LOT OF SPLITS WITH OTHER SCHOOLS FOR VARIOUS REASONS, RUNNING START, CASCADIA TECH, ET CETERA.

THE OVERALL FTE OF CCA IS 188, WHICH IS WHAT YOU JUST SAW IN DR. JOHN'S REPORT.

WE HAD A LOT OF KIDS GO BACK TO IN PERSON, THAT'S KIND OF A DIP THERE.

THEN YOU CAN SEE WE'RE GRADUALLY FINDING OUR PLACE LIKE POST-COVID.

AT THE SECONDARY STUDENTS THAT ARE ENROLLING IN CCA, EVEN LAST YEAR IT WASN'T REALLY RELATED TO COVID, WHERE USUALLY ALL THE ELEMENTARY KIDS THAT WERE COMING IN, AND IT'S LIKE, HEY, TO JUST KEEP MY KIDS SAFE AND THAT KIND OF STUFF.

I THINK WE FOUND OUR NICHE WITHIN THE SECONDARY SYSTEM WITHIN CAMAS, AND I THINK WE'RE STILL TRYING TO FIND THE ELEMENTARY ONE.

I'VE HAD SOME MEETINGS WITH DOUG AND JOHN, AND WE'RE TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHAT THE PLAN IS FOR THAT.

ANY QUESTIONS ON ENROLLMENT? YEAH.

>> I'M JUST CURIOUS BECAUSE THIS HAS BEEN SOMETHING WE'VE TALKED ABOUT IN OTHER BUILDINGS, FROM SECONDARY IS THERE ANY OPPORTUNITY WITH CCA TO BE BUILDING IN COLLEGE CREDIT INTO ANY OF THE SECONDARY CLASSES? IS THAT SOMETHING THAT THEY CAN DO?

>> I THINK WE CAN.

I THINK THAT GOES BACK TO ME SAYING LIKE, EVENTUALLY CCA HAS TO GET OUT OF THE BOX BECAUSE IF WE DO THAT, THEN THE TEACHERS HAVE TO DESIGN THEIR OWN CURRICULUM AND USUALLY HAVE TO HAVE AN ARTICULATION AGREEMENT.

BUT IF WE'RE JUST USING EDGENUITY, THEY DO HAVE AP CLASSES, BUT THEY ARE REALLY DIFFICULT.

THERE IS SOME POTENTIAL, BUT I THINK FIRST WE HAVE TO GET A LMS THAT'S NOT GOOGLE CLASSROOM, THAT'S A BIG LIFT.

I THINK THAT'S LIKE PROBABLY A YEAR TO THREE BECAUSE COMING UP WITH YOUR OWN CLASSES IS A WHOLE OTHER AREA WE HAVEN'T GOTTEN INTO YET.

BUT YEAH, THERE'S POTENTIAL. GOOD QUESTION.

BUT WE DO HAVE AP AND WE DO HAVE RUNNING START.

AT LEAST OUR STUDENTS HAVE ACCESS TO THAT.

ANY MORE QUESTIONS ON ENROLLMENT?

>> I APPRECIATE THE DATA AND LOOKING INTO THE DATA AND I KNOW THAT WE'RE TRYING TO FIND THAT NICHE STILL.

YOU'RE GOING TO WORK ON IT WITH THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, BUT I THINK FOR THE HIGH SCHOOL WERE NOT HOW THEY'RE ABLE TO DO THE RUNNING START AND THE CASCADIA TECH.

DO YOU HAVE A LOT OF STUDENTS DOING THAT? I THINK THAT'S SOMETHING THAT A GOOD NICHE FOR US TO FILL, IS LIKE THEY DON'T WANT TO GO TO THE CAMAS HIGH SCHOOL OR THEY CAN DO IT ONLINE AND THEN THEY CAN GO TO RUNNING START TO GET THOSE CLASSES THAT THEY'RE MISSING OR TO CASCADIA TECH.

IT'S JUST FIND THAT NICHE WITH ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENTS AND HOW TO GET MORE THERE.

>> YEAH. THAT'S BEEN THE STRUGGLE BECAUSE THE ELEMENTARY PROGRAM THAT WAS AT CCA WAS SO STRONG WHEN I GOT HERE AND IT WAS SO DIFFERENT THAN WHAT I HAD IN OREGON.

DIFFERENT THAN OUR SECONDARY PROGRAM AND IT'S A TREASURE THAT I WANT TO HANG ONTO, BUT I ALSO KNOW IT'S NOT REALLY TAILORED TO HOME SCHOOL FAMILIES, AND THAT'S WHAT YOU FIND IN ELEMENTARY.

I'M DEBATING REALLY AND I NEED TO HAVE MORE MEETINGS WITH DOUG AND JOHN.

I MEAN CLEARLY WE'VE GOT TO DO SOMETHING.

RIGHT NOW IT IS SOMEWHAT SELF-SUFFICIENT BECAUSE WE HAVE 19 KIDS IN MY 3, 5 CLASS, BUT THE K12, IS THE REAL STRUGGLE.

I THINK WHEN YOU SEE A LOT OF ONLINE PROGRAMS, THERE'S A REASON THAT THERE ARE 3, 3, 12, BECAUSE K12 IT'S DIFFICULT TO FIND STUDENTS OR FAMILIES THAT WANT TO DO THAT.

THE FAMILIES THAT WE HAVE IN CCA, K12 ARE VERY LOYAL TO US.

A LOT OF THEM ARE RETURNING.

I DON'T KNOW IF THEY WOULD GO TO THE NEIGHBORHOOD SCHOOLS, BUT ANYWAYS.

>> ONE MORE QUESTION. WHAT IS YOUR GOAL ENROLLMENT? I MEAN YOU SAY YOU'RE 188 FTE RIGHT NOW.

WHAT ARE YOU TRYING TO GET TO?

>> MY GOAL THIS YEAR WAS 300. I'M NOT THERE.

BUT WE ARE GRADUALLY GROWING AND WE DEFINITELY HAVE STUDENTS COMING IN AT SEMESTER, WHICH IS PRETTY COMMON FOR ONLINE SCHOOLS.

I THINK BY THE END OF THIS YEAR,

[01:10:01]

WE'LL PROBABLY GET CLOSE TO 250, WHICH IS WHERE WE ARE AT LAST YEAR.

I THINK WHAT WE HAD HAPPENED WAS WE HAD A LOT OF STUDENTS GO BACK TO BRICK AND MORTAR, THEN WE'VE HAD PROBABLY AT LEAST 15 OR 20 COME BACK.

WE DO HAVE SOME KIDS THAT GO BACK AND FORTH.

IF A STUDENT HAS GONE THROUGH A PARTICULAR HEALTH SITUATION AND THEY NEED CCA FOR A BIT, SO WE DO HAVE SOME BACK AND FORTH THAT HAPPENS.

BUT YEAH, MY GOAL THIS YEAR WAS 300 AND WE'RE LIKELY GOING TO GET TO ABOUT 250.

OBVIOUSLY THE BIG CHANGE THERE IS I HAD ASSUMED WE'D HAVE MORE ELEMENTARY KIDS, BUT OUR SECONDARY, YOU CAN SEE IT'S CONSISTENTLY GROWING.

>> NEXT IS A STAFFING.

IT'S KIND OF INTERESTING.

WE HAVE NINE FULL TIME STAFF AND 31 STAFF OVERALL.

IT'S A LOT OF PART TIME STAFF THAT EITHER WORK AT ANOTHER SCHOOL OR JUST PART TIME WITH US.

K-5 WE REALLY SLIMMED DOWN.

WE JUST HAVE 3.3 FTE, TWO CLASSROOM TEACHERS, AND THE REST IS IN SPECIALISTS.

AGAIN, JUST GIVING INFORMATION THAT SPECIALISTS LIKE IF WE DO HAVE TO SHRINK CCA ANYMORE.

THAT MIGHT BE AN AREA THAT WE ALIGNED BECAUSE YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO HAVE 0.1 FOR EVERY CLASS.

THAT'S SOMETHING I ALREADY TALKED TO DR. JOHN AND DOUG ABOUT.

THAT'S SOMETHING THAT'S OUT THERE.

I GUESS I SHOULDN'T ADVERTISE THAT, BUT I LIKE TO BE HONEST, THERE YOU GO.

SECONDARY STAFFING IS PRETTY GOOD.

THE OVERALL STAFFING RATIO IS 1 TO 20.

WE'RE ABOUT 92 PERCENT FULL.

WHAT I LIKED ABOUT THIS MODELS, WE STAFFED UP FOR THAT 230-250 NUMBER, AND THEN WE WERE ABLE TO GET THEIR AND STAY THERE AND NOT HAVE TO HIRE ANY STAFFS.

NOW WE HAVE SOME MORE CONSISTENCY WITHIN OUR STAFFING BECAUSE IT DOES TAKE A LOT TO LEARN OUR SYSTEM AND ALL OF OUR SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS.

THERE YOU GO, SO 250 IS WHERE I THINK WE WILL GET THIS YEAR. THAT'S MY HOPE.

I AM A STRANGE PRINCIPAL THAT LOVES TO LOOK AT THE BUDGET AND SO I'VE CHECKED WITH MATT AND JASON AS I'VE BEEN BUILDING CCA, I ALWAYS TRY TO DO MY BEST AROUND A BALANCE FOR PROFITABLE SEEMS LIKE A FUNNY WORD.

BUT I TRY TO KEEP AN EYE ON THAT, AND SO RIGHT NOW I CHECKED WHAT WE'RE BRINGING IN FOR CCA WE'RE SPENDING.

EVEN IF WE'RE A LITTLE BIT LESS EFFICIENT IN OUR ELEMENTARY, THE SECONDARY IS MAKING UP FOR IT, AND I THINK THE OTHER THING THAT'S IMPORTANT FOR BOARD MEMBERS TO KNOW IS WE'RE SERVING THOSE 206 KIDS IN A VARIETY OF WAYS, 188 HEADCOUNT AND ONLY USING 2,000 SQUARE FEET.

THEY'RE USING JUST A SLICE OF ODYSSEY, AND I THINK THAT'S WHERE YOU GET SOME OF THE EFFICIENCIES AND ONLINE SCHOOLS AS WE DON'T USE AS MUCH SPACE.

FOR THE MONTHLY ACTIVITIES WE NEED SOME SPACE, BUT WE CAN WORK THAT OUT WITH WHAT WE HAVE.

THERE'S INEFFICIENCY THERE, AND THEN WE DEFINITELY HAVE SOME CAPACITY THIS YEAR TO GROW SOME MORE AND THEN WE CAN SCALE UP.

THE OTHER THING THAT I THINK IS GREAT IS WE HAVE 33 STUDENTS THAT ARE FROM OUT OF THE DISTRICT.

THEN EVERGREEN, THEIR ONLINE PROGRAM IS FULL AND THEIR HOME CHOICE ACADEMY IS ONLY K-8.

I THINK THERE'S 14 ONLINE SCHOOLS IN SOUTHWEST WASHINGTON.

SEVEN OF THEM HAVE K-12, AND SO I WANT TO FIGHT TO STAY IN THAT NICHE BECAUSE SOME OF THEM ARE ONLY IN K-8.

BUT WHEN WE HAVE THE K-12, WE HAVE SIBLINGS.

WE HAVE SEVERAL FAMILIES THAT HAVE STUDENTS IN MULTIPLE GRADES, AND SOME OF THEM ACTUALLY DO THAT SO THEY CAN TRAVEL.

WE HAVE ONE FAMILY THAT'S IN AUSTRALIA RIGHT NOW AND SO IT IS NICE IF WE CAN KEEP THE K-12.

I'M GIVING YOU DATA AND THEN ALSO SAYING I REALLY WANT TO FIGHT TO KEEP IT.

CURRICULUM I MENTIONED THE POPTOA.

THIS IS JUST A QUICK LOOK AT OUR POPTOA.

THE FIRST ONE IS REALLY REFINING OUR SYSTEM.

WE'VE WORKED REALLY HARD THIS YEAR ON THE MTSS, WHICH I THINK YOU GUYS HAVE HEARD ABOUT THAT.

IT'S THE MULTI-TIERED SYSTEMS OF SUPPORT.

WE FOCUSED A LOT ON ATTENDANCE AND PROGRESS.

THOSE ARE THE TWO IMPORTANT THINGS IN ONLINE SCHOOL.

WE'RE TRYING TO DO UNIVERSAL DESIGN FOR LEARNING.

AGAIN, THAT'S HARD AS LONG AS WE'RE STICKING WITH EDGENUITY.

BUT WE'RE USING ALL THE BACK-END PARTS OF EDGENUITY TO TRY TO MEET THOSE INDIVIDUAL STUDENT NEEDS.

BECAUSE UDL IS ABOUT WHEN YOU ARE DEMONSTRATING YOUR LEARNING YOU HAVE MULTIPLE WAYS TO DO THAT, AND SO WE DO HAVE SOME TEACHERS, AND I'VE SEEN THIS BEFORE.

IT'S LIKE YOUR FIRST-YEAR TEACHING, YOU LEAN A LITTLE BIT ON THE TEXTBOOK, BUT THEN YOU TALK TO OTHER TEACHERS, YOU GET SOME REALLY COOL ASSIGNMENTS FOR ME AS A SCIENCE TEACHER, I WAS GETTING LABS, AND BY YEAR 3 OR 4 YOU HAVE A REALLY RICH MIX OF THINGS THAT YOU'VE FOUND AND THINGS THAT YOU GOT FROM THE TEXTBOOK,

[01:15:04]

AND THAT'S WHAT HAPPENS WITH AN ONLINE SCHOOL.

I HAVE TEACHERS THAT ARE LINKING GOOGLE CLASSROOM, PUTTING IN ALTERNATIVE ASSIGNMENTS, MEETING WITH STUDENTS AND DOING ASSESSMENTS VERBALLY.

INSTEAD OF JUST TAKING A LONG, NASTY MULTIPLE CHOICE, WE'LL MEET WITH STUDENTS AND JUST LIKE, HEY, CAN YOU WALK ME THROUGH, WHAT DO YOU UNDERSTAND? WE'RE TRYING TO USE THOSE STRATEGIES.

WE'RE WORKING ON THE AUDIT, OUR COUNSELING TEAM ACROSS THE DISTRICT IS ADOPTING THE ASCO MODEL.

THAT'S SOME PERFORMANCE STANDARDS AND IT'S BASICALLY A COMPREHENSIVE COUNSELING MODEL, AND THE WHOLE DISTRICT IS WORKING ON THAT AND WE ARE TOO.

OUR GOAL 2 IS ALL AROUND ACADEMIC GROWTH.

IN AN ONLINE SCHOOL OVER THE YEARS I'VE LEARNED TO FOCUS ON GROWTH.

LAST YEAR WE HAD 70 PERCENT GROWTH SO 70 PERCENT OF THE STUDENTS IN CCA GREW BY A YEAR OR MORE, AND THAT'S WHAT I PREFER TO SEE MY STUDENTS THAT ARE WELL BELOW HAVE LIKE A YEAR OR A YEAR-AND-A-HALF OF GROWTH.

BUT SOMETIMES THAT'S HARD TO ACHIEVE.

BUT I STARTED AT 70 PERCENT BECAUSE EVERY YEAR I RATCHET IT UP.

THIS YEAR IT'S 72 PERCENT, AND WE ARE DOING IT A LOT AND APPLYING A LOT OF INTERVENTIONS TO MAKE THAT HAPPEN.

THEN IN 6-12 WE'RE FOCUSING ON COURSE COMPLETION, AND THAT'S RELATED TO THE SECONDARY POPTOA OF GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS.

BASICALLY WHAT THAT GOAL SAYS IS, OF ALL THE CLASSES TAKEN AT CCA, 6-12, 85 PERCENT OF THEM WILL BE A PASSING GRADE.

>> SIRI. HI, WELCOME TO THE MEETING.

[LAUGHTER]

>> IT TAKES AWHILE TO REFINE AN ONLINE SCHOOL.

THE SCHOOL I WAS WORKING OUT IN OREGON WE HAD WORKED ON THAT OVER THE YEARS AND WE HAD ABOUT A 93 PERCENT COURSE COMPLETION RATE, AND SO THAT'S WHAT I'M TRYING TO DO WITH CCA IS ALL THOSE THINGS THAT YOU'VE HEARD ME TALK ABOUT.

GETTING OUTSIDE THE TEXTBOOK, USING UDL, USING MTSS TO SUPPORT THE KIDS THAT ARE STRUGGLING AND OVERTIME THAT COURSE COMPLETION RATE WILL BE HIGHER AND HIGHER AS WE MOVE FORWARD.

THEN THE BIG THING WE'RE TRYING TO DO AS WELL AS BUILD COMMUNITY, AND SO GETTING OUTSIDE OF THE COMPUTER, HAVING THOSE EVENTS AND CREATING CONNECTEDNESS.

OUR PANORAMA DATA IS INTERESTING.

IT'S VERY SIMILAR TO ELEMENTARY AND SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN CAMAS.

BUT WHEN YOU LOOK AT OUR SCORES, OUR KIDS OBVIOUSLY DON'T FEEL CONNECTED TO EACH OTHER AS MUCH BECAUSE THEY NEVER SEE EACH OTHER EXCEPT FOR LIKE ONCE A MONTH OR IF THEY COME TO THE LEARNING LAB.

THAT'S WHERE WE'LL CONTINUE TO USE DATA TO DRIVE WHAT WE'RE DOING.

WHICH IS THE LAST SECTION, WHERE I'VE ALWAYS BEEN A BIG BELIEVER IN FEEDBACK LOOPS, AND SO WE HAD LOTS OF DIFFERENT SURVEYS THAT I DID LAST YEAR.

FIRST OF ALL I HEARD FROM MY PARENTS AND THE FIRST COUPLE OF WEEKS THAT LIKE, OH MY GOSH, THREE HOURS IS A REALLY LONG TIME TO BE ONLINE FOR KINDERGARTEN, AND THE REASON I WAS DOING THAT IS UNDER THE STATE GUIDANCE LAST YEAR, IF YOU WERE ONLINE FOR THREE HOURS YOU WOULD GET FULL FUNDING FOR THE KIDS.

DOUG AND I WERE TRYING TO DO THAT, BUT THEN SEE AND SERVE, WELL, THAT WAS TOO LONG.

WE ADJUSTED OUR KINDERGARTEN TIME-BASED ON PARENT FEEDBACK DOWN TO 90 MINUTES.

THAT'S WHAT WE WOULD DO IS I'D BE CURIOUS ABOUT AN IDEA.

I'D SURVEY THE FAMILIES, LISTEN TO THEM AND MAKE ANY CHANGES THAT WE WOULD NEED.

WE HEARD THAT STUDENTS WERE GOING TO BE GOING BACK IN PERSON WITH THE YOUNGER VACCINES.

WE PAID ATTENTION TO THAT SO WE COULD DEVELOP TRANSITION PLANS.

WE DID END OF THE YEAR SURVEY, AND ON THAT END OF THE YEAR SURVEY WE HAD 57 PERCENT SATISFACTION, WHICH YOU CAN ONLY GO UP FROM THERE.

I PREFER TO BE IN THE 90S WITH ALL OF THESE AND WE'LL GET THERE OVER TIME.

BUT WHAT I HEARD FROM THAT IS THAT EDGENUITY IS A LOT OF WORK AND STRESS, AND SO WE'RE TRYING TO WORK WITH FAMILIES, WORK WITH STUDENTS.

I MET WITH A STUDENT TODAY THAT WAS HAVING A REALLY HARD TIME IN AP LANGUAGE ARTS, AND SO JUST LIKE LISTENING TO THEM, TRYING TO AGAIN, USE UDL.

WHAT DO THEY UNDERSTAND? WHAT DO THEY KNOW? IT DOESN'T ALWAYS COME OUT AND TAKING A MULTIPLE CHOICE TEST.

WE'RE WORKING ON THAT. WE STARTED COMMITTEES THIS YEAR.

I HAVE A BUILDING LEADERSHIP TEAM AND THEY ARE GOING TO BE LAUNCHING AND HELPING ME CRAFT OUR SURVEYS FOR BOTH STAFF, STUDENTS, AND PARENTS, AND THEN I LISTENED TO THEM.

I WASN'T GOING TO TRY TO SEND IT OUT BEFORE SEMESTER, BUT THEY'RE LIKE YOU SHOULD WAIT UNTIL FEBRUARY SO I'M GOING TO DO THAT.

WE'LL ANALYZE THAT DATA AND SEE WHAT WE NEED TO CHANGE WITH CCA.

THERE YOU GO. THAT'S IT. ANY QUESTIONS?

>> YOU WERE MENTIONING IN THE SLIDE BEFORE

[01:20:04]

THAT FAMILIES FELT LIKE EDGENUITY WAS A LOT OF WORK AND STRESS.

YOU FEEL LIKE THAT'S STILL THE PROGRAM FOR OUR PROGRAM?

>> I DO.

SPORTS ANALOGY. BASKETBALL TEAMS, I PLAYED A LOT OF BASKETBALL.

THERE'S A STATEMENT YOU CAN LIVE AND DIE BY THREE.

IT'S THE SAME WITH AN ONLINE SCHOOL.

YOU CAN LIVE AND DIE BY CHOICE, AND SO WE ADD 40 DIFFERENT PROGRAMS IN MY SCHOOL IN OREGON, DIFFERENT CURRICULUM PROGRAMS. BUT IT WAS SO MUCH THAT OUR PARENTS LOVED IT, BUT IT WAS HARD TO BECOME PERFECTIONIST, AND OUT OF ALL THE ONES THAT I'VE USED, I FEEL LIKE EDGE ANNUITY MEETS THE BIGGEST BANDWIDTH OF STUDENTS.

I FEEL IT'S A GOOD FOUNDATION, BUT I THINK EVENTUALLY WE NEED TO GET AN LMS THAT'S NOT GOOGLE CLASSROOM BECAUSE I DON'T KNOW IF YOU'VE TALKED TO PARENTS ABOUT GOOGLE CLASSROOM, BUT ON THE PARENT SIDE, IT'S PRETTY FRUSTRATING TO USE AND DISORGANIZED.

I WOULD LEAN TOWARDS CANVAS, BUT I KNOW THAT'S A HEAVY LIFT, AND SO I'M TRYING TO BE SENSITIVE OF WHERE MY STUDENTS ARE, WHERE MY TEACHERS ARE, AND WHERE I CAN PUSH AND GO.

BUT I DO THINK AGENUITY RIGHT NOW FOR SECONDARIES A GOOD THING I CAN BUILD AROUND, BUT EVENTUALLY I NEED SOME MORE, AND SO WE'VE BEEN EXPERIMENTING WITH SOME OTHER ONES LIKE WE HAVE IXL OR SOME INTERVENTION.

EVENTUALLY, WE PROBABLY NEED TO GET TO THE POINT OF TWO OR THREE.

BUT THAT JUST TAKES TIME.

>> YOU FEEL THE DISCONNECT FOR LACK OF A BETTER TERM IS MORE ABOUT THE LMS AND NOT NECESSARILY ABOUT THE CURRICULUM THEN.

>> I THINK AGENUITY ITSELF IS HARD.

WE AS STAFF HAVE TO LEARN HOW TO LISTEN AND THEN MAKE ADJUSTMENTS BECAUSE THERE IS A LOT OF POWER THAT WE HAVE ON THE BACKEND TO MOVE THINGS AROUND OR CHANGE THE WAY THAT KIDS SEE THEM, AND IF WE CAN DO THAT, I THINK THAT'LL BIAS TIME WHILE THEY BUILD CAPACITY WITH THE TEACHERS.

ONE THING I'VE STARTED DOING THIS YEAR IS ON THE 4TH WEDNESDAY, I HAVE AN OPTIONAL PD SESSION THAT THEY CAN COME TO AND I TALK ALL ABOUT ONLINE LEARNING, AND SO I'M TRYING TO BUILD THEM UP BECAUSE THEY'VE ONLY BEEN AT IT FOR A COUPLE OF YEARS, AND SO TO DESIGN, A REALLY GOOD ONLINE CLASS IS A SPECIALTY THAT TAKES A LONG TIME, WHICH IS WHY EVERYONE AROUND THE COUNTRY SUFFERED WHEN COVID HAPPENED, BECAUSE IT TAKES YEARS TO MAKE A GOOD ONLINE CLASS AND PEOPLE HAVE TO DO IT AND WEEKS, AND SO SAME THING WITH US, LIKE I'M TRYING TO BUILD THAT CAPACITY.

THEY'RE GETTING THERE A LITTLE BIT ON THEIR OWN, AND THEN I JUST NEED TO GET THEM THE TOOLS WHICH WILL LIKELY BE CANVAS.

>> ARE WE LOOKING AT GOING INTO CANVAS AS A DISTRICT AT ALL I KNOW EVERGREEN WE JUST MOVED TO THAT THIS YEAR.

>> THAT'S OVER MY SITUATION.

[LAUGHTER]

>> LET ME BACK THAT UP A LITTLE BIT.

WOULD WE BE LOOKING FOR AN OVERALL LMS FOR THE WHOLE DISTRICT THAT WOULD WORK FOR ALL OUR MODES OF SCHOOLS.

>> I WOULD BE HAPPY TO HELP US GET THERE, BUT I ALSO KNOW THERE'S A COST RELATED TO CANVAS.

I THINK IN OREGON IT WAS THREE DOLLARS A STUDENT BECAUSE THE STATE HOW TO ADD A BUDGET FOR THAT.

I DON'T KNOW IF WE WOULD WANT TO DO IT FOR ALL BECAUSE OBVIOUSLY GOOGLE IS FREE AND IT'S AVAILABLE.

IT WOULD HAVE TO BE A CONVERSATION IF WE'RE LOOKING AT BUDGET CUTS LIKE $3 TIMES 7,000 WOULD BE A HEAVY LIFT.

BUT THE OTHER THING TOO IS SORRY, I'M GETTING ABOVE MY SITUATION.

BUT WHEN YOU'RE BARGAINING WITH FOUR GROUPS, I KNOW.

[LAUGHTER] SORRY.

[BACKGROUND] WHEN YOU'RE BARGAINING WITH FOUR GROUPS AND THEN ASKING TEACHERS TO LEARN SOMETHING LIKE CANVAS, I THINK THAT'S A BIG ASK THAT YOU'D WANT TO BE SENSITIVE WITH.

>> YEAH, IF I CAN CHIME IN DAN, THAT WAS A PERFECT RESPONSE AND AS MOST OF YOU KNOW, WE'RE LOOKING AS SKYWARD LOOKS TO I GUESS, MODIFY AND MIGRATE.

WE KNOW THAT THERE'S A LOT ON OUR TEACHERS PLATES OUR STAFFS PLATES RIGHT NOW.

WE WANT TO BE AS EFFICIENT AS POSSIBLE, BUT I THINK THE EFFICIENCY NEEDS TO COME FROM THE SIS AND THE PAYROLL AND HR SOFTWARE FIRST.

BUT WE DEFINITELY HAVE TALKED BRIEFLY ABOUT THAT PLATFORM CHANGE AS WELL.

BUT TO DAN'S POINT, I AGREE.

I THINK IT'S ONE STEP AT A TIME, ESPECIALLY AS WE'RE GOING THROUGH BUDGET AND THINGS LIKE THAT.

LISA, DID YOU WANT TO CHIME IN?

>> YEAH. I'M JUST BEING SENSITIVE TOO LIKE HAVING A COMMON PLATFORM RATHER THAN THIS WORKS FOR THIS, THIS WORKS FOR THAT, EVENTUALLY MOVING TOWARDS THAT.

THAT'S ONE OF THE FILTERS WE'RE USING AS WE LOOK THROUGH ALL OF OUR PROGRAMS. WHAT'S AT ELEMENTARY, MIDDLE, HIGH, FOR EXAMPLE ONE OF THE THINGS WE KNOW WE NEED IS A SCREENER AT THE HIGH-SCHOOL LEVEL.

WE'RE LOOKING AT MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL TOGETHER BECAUSE

[01:25:03]

WHAT WE DON'T NEED IS THREE SEPARATE SYSTEMS. BUT YOU MAY RECALL THAT AS SCHOOLS WERE OUT DURING THE PANDEMIC, THAT THERE WAS A WORK COMMITTEE PUT TOGETHER WITH TEACHERS AND OTHERS TO LOOK AT LEARNING MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS TO SEE WHAT WOULD SERVE US BEST.

AT THAT TIME, THE COMMITTEE DETERMINED THAT GOOGLE CLASSROOM WAS SUFFICIENT, AND SO NOW AS DR. DAN IS TALKING ABOUT, THAT, IT'S TIME TO REVISIT THOSE AFTER WE HAVE THAT STUDENT'S SYSTEM IN PLACE SO THAT WE KNOW THAT IT CAN BUILD ON THERE.

>> DAN ONE MORE QUESTION FOR YOU.

I'M JUST CURIOUS ABOUT THINKING ABOUT MY DAD WHO WAS A REALTOR IS LIKE YOU CAN'T JUST PUT A FOR SALE SIGN IN THE YARD AND EXPECT TO SELL THE HOUSE.

HOW ARE YOU MARKETING CCA? ARE YOU GETTING IN FRONT OF STUDENTS? ARE YOU PUTTING THINGS OUT TO THE COMMUNITY OR OUTSIDE THE DISTRICT?

>> YEAH. I'VE TRIED A COUPLE OF FACEBOOK CAMPAIGNS ARE LIKE PROMOTING AN EVENT JUST USING MY BUILDING BUDGET, AND I'VE GOT A LOT OF EXPOSURE THAT WAY, BUT IT HASN'T MATERIALIZED IN A LOT OF STUDENTS, SO I'M RE-EVALUATING THE VALUE OF FACEBOOK, BUT I WILL TRY AGAIN.

THIS FORECASTING SEASON TO SAY PROMOTE OUR OPEN HOUSE EVENTS THAT ARE GOING TO HAPPEN AND PUT THOSE OUT ON FACEBOOK.

THE OTHER THING IS WITH THE WHOLE FORECASTING SCENARIO WITH SECONDARY SCHOOLS TRYING TO GET MORE INVOLVED IN THAT AND JUST MAKING SURE THAT THE STUDENTS KNOW THAT CCA IS THERE AND THAT IT'S AN OPTION.

I HAVE PLANS TO VISIT WITH THE 5TH GRADERS, THE 8TH GRADERS, BECAUSE THOSE ARE TWO BIG TRANSITION YEARS AND JUST MAKING SURE THAT THEY KNOW THAT CCA IS THERE.

THE OTHER THING IS, WHEN WE FIRST CAME WE GOT A NICE ARTICLE ON THE COLOMBIAN, SO YOU TRY TO GET THAT FREE PRESS IF YOU CAN, AND THEN I'VE WORKED A LOT ON OUR WEBSITE BECAUSE YOU HAVE TO HAVE THE ONLINE PRESENCE, BEING IN-PERSON WITH PEOPLE PRESENCE, AND THEN ANY OF THAT PRINT STUFF.

I AM FINALIZING A BROCHURE.

THAT SOUNDS FUNNY, BUT WHEN I GO TO THESE FORECASTING EVENTS I WANT TO BE ABLE TO HAND STUDENTS A BROCHURE THAT THEY CAN TAKE BACK AND TALK TO THEIR PARENTS LIKE, HEY, DID YOU KNOW THIS IS AN OPTION? THAT'S MY APPROACH.

>> TO ADD ONTO THAT AS THOSE OF YOU WHO HAVE COME TO THE LAST DISCOVERY VISIONING MEETING, THAT'S SOMETHING THAT CAME UP, AND I DO WANT TO GIVE KUDOS TO MARILYN, TO AND HER LEADERSHIP BECAUSE THEY HAVE FOUND A WAY WORKING WITH CAMAS HIGH SCHOOL AS WELL AS OUR OTHER OPTIONS TO REALLY SEPARATE SO WE CAN HIGHLIGHT OUR OTHER OPTIONS WHERE CAMAS HIGH SCHOOL DOESN'T NECESSARILY ALWAYS NEED THAT, EVEN THOUGH WE WANT TO GIVE OUR MIDDLE SCHOOLERS, EVEN OUR ELEMENTARY STUDENTS, SOME EXPOSURE TO CAMAS HIGH SCHOOL AT AN EARLY AGE.

WE KNOW THAT OUR OTHER PROGRAMS NEED THAT EXTRA BOOST.

WOULD YOU AGREE, MARILYN? THANK YOU FOR THAT.

>> I THINK THAT'S SOMETHING THAT WE AS A BOARD OF TALKED ABOUT A LOT AND I'D LOVE TO SEE SOMETHING MAYBE AS WE'RE GETTING INTO FORECASTING SEASON AND STUFF, MAYBE SEE HOW WE ARE NOT JUST WITH CCA, BUT WITH ALL OF OUR ART, ESPECIALLY OUR SECONDARY OPTIONS, HOW WE ARE REALLY BEING INNOVATIVE AND GETTING OUT THERE AND GETTING IN FRONT OF GROUPS.

WHETHER THAT IS YOU SAID, SOCIAL MEDIA CAMPAIGNS OR VIDEOS, OR PRESENTATIONS OR WHATNOT THROUGH PARENTS SQUARE, WHATEVER IT IS, I'D REALLY LOVE TO SEE.

I DON'T KNOW IF ANYBODY ELSE FEELS THAT WAY, BUT I'D REALLY LOVE TO SEE HOW WE ARE DOING THAT BECAUSE I THINK WE'VE SAID IT SO OFTEN THAT IN A DISTRICT OUR SIZE, WE'RE SO FORTUNATE THAT WE HAVE SO MANY OPTIONS AND SO MANY PERSONALIZED PATHWAYS FOR STUDENTS THAT I REALLY WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT OUR COMMUNITY REALLY KNOWS ABOUT THESE SO THAT THEY DON'T JUST GO OFF OF, WELL, THIS IS JUST WHAT I ASSUMED AN ONLINE SCHOOL WOULD LOOK LIKE BECAUSE MY KID WAS DOING REMOTE SCHOOL FROM HOME FOR A COUPLE OF YEARS OR WITH DISCOVERY ANYWAYS, I KEEP.

>> COREY THAT'S A GREAT POINT AND IF YOU LIFT THE BOARD, I CAN ADD THAT TO THE NEXT MONTH SUPERINTENDENT REPORT AND MAYBE MARILYN WE CAN WORK TOGETHER ON HOW THAT'S HAPPENING.

WE'VE BEEN LISTENING TO STUDENTS, OUR PRINCIPLES, OUR PARENTS LOUD AND CLEAR.

MANY STORIES OF OH, I COULD HAVE, SHOULD HAVE WOULD HAVE IF WE ONLY HAD KNOWN AND SOMETIMES THAT'S TOO LATE.

I THINK THERE WAS A TRUE UNDERSTANDING THAT ELEMENTARY SCHOOL IS NOT TOO EARLY TO START THINKING ABOUT SOME OF OUR HIGH SCHOOL OPTIONS.

WE'LL WORK ON THAT IF THAT'S WHAT THE BOARD LIKES.

>> ABSOLUTELY. THANK YOU.

>> ANYTHING ELSE FOR DR. HOLD?

>> ALL RIGHT. DAN, THANK YOU.

>> THANK YOU.

>> THANKS, DAN. MOVING ON TO ITEM 11A,

[11. OPEN AND EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATIONS]

[01:30:06]

WE HAVE APPROVAL OF THE 23 24 DISTRICT CALENDAR.

I WOULD ENTERTAIN A MOTION AND A SECOND FOR THAT.

>> CAN I MAKE A COMMENT?

>> YEAH. GO AHEAD.

>> I COULD JUST MAKE A COMMENT REALLY QUICK BEFORE WE VOTE ON THIS.

TO MY FRIENDS ON THE BOARD, I REALLY APPRECIATE ALL THE STAKEHOLDERS EYES THAT HAVE BEEN ON THIS CALENDAR.

I KNOW THAT WE'LL APPROVE THIS TONIGHT BUT I WILL NOT BE A BARRIER TO THE PASSAGE OF THIS CALENDAR, BUT AS IN YEARS PAST, I HAVE A STRONG POSITION ON THE FUTURE OF OUR CALENDAR.

I JUST WANTED TO STATE IT UPFRONT OF MY POSITION IS.

>> THAT'S WHAT CAC IS WORKING ON?

>> THAT'S WHAT CAC IS WORKING ON.

>> I WOULD ECHO THAT TOO.

I KNOW WE'RE LOOKING AT THE BALANCED CALENDAR AND WE HAVE TO APPROVE THIS SO FAR IN ADVANCE.

I KNOW THERE'S WAYS WE'RE TRYING TO PLUG IN DIFFERENT DAYS THERE, BUT WE'RE NOT THERE YET UNTIL. I'M WITH YOU ON THAT.

>> ERICA, JUST QUICKLY. COREY TO ADD TO THAT.

I THINK WE WANT TO TAKE INTO ACCOUNT THE PLANNING THAT COMES IN PLAY, NOT JUST FOR THE COMMITTEE, BUT FOR OUR FAMILIES.

I COULD FORESEE SOME GREAT CREATIVITY IN THE FUTURE BUT TO TRACY'S POINT, I THINK IT'S IMPORTANT THAT WE GIVE TIME TO OUR FAMILIES TO PLAN AHEAD.

I'M EXCITED ABOUT THAT THOUGH.

>> WAS THERE MORE COMMENTS? I'LL MAKE A MOTION TO APPROVE THE 23, 24 CALENDAR AS PRESENTED.

>> I'LL SECOND THAT.

>> IT WAS MOVED BY TRACY, SECONDED BY CONNIE.

ANY FURTHER DISCUSSION? ALL THOSE IN FAVOR?

>> AYE.

>> OPPOSED?

>> NAY.

>> MOTION CARRIES. MOVING ON TO ITEM 12A,

[12. QUALITY FACILITIES AND RESOURCES]

WE HAVE OUR LACAMAS LAKE ELEMENTARY WETLAND AND HABITAT MAINTENANCE AND MONITORING SERVICE EXPENDITURE FOR 6-10 YEARS.

THERE IS A MOUTHFUL. [LAUGHTER] YOU HAVE THE INFORMATION IN FRONT OF YOU TO APPROVE A FIVE-YEAR CONTRACT WITH ECOLOGICAL LAND SERVICES FOR REQUIRED WETLAND MAINTENANCE AND MONITORING SERVICES AT LACAMAS LAKE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL OVER THE NEXT FIVE YEARS.

>> IF THERE'S NO CONVERSATION, I'LL MOVE TO APPROVE THE FIVE-YEAR CONTRACT WITH THE ECOLOGICAL LAND SERVICES FOR ACQUIRED WETLAND MAINTENANCE AND MONITORING SERVICES AT LACAMAS LAKE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL FOR A GRAND TOTAL OF FIVE YEARS OF $59,620, WHICH WILL BE PAID FROM THE OPERATIONS DEPARTMENT BUDGET.

>> A QUESTION.

DO WE HAVE ONE OF THESE AGREEMENTS WITH ANY OTHER OF OUR SCHOOLS? DO WE HAVE TO DO WETLAND MANAGEMENT TO THIS DEGREE AT ANY OTHER SCHOOL?

>> I THOUGHT IT'S JUST LACAMAS LAKE.

>> JUST LIKE LACAMAS?

>> YES.

>> JUST LACAMAS.

>> THANK YOU. OVER TO YOU. THERE'S WHO I'M LOOKING FOR.

>> [BACKGROUND].

>> RIGHT.

>> [BACKGROUND].

>> THANK YOU. I'LL SECOND THE MOTION.

>> IT WAS MOVED BY ERICA AND SECONDED BY CONNIE.

ANY FURTHER DISCUSSION? ALL THOSE IN FAVOR?

>> AYE.

>> OPPOSED? MOTION CARRIES.

NEXT UNDER QUALITY FACILITIES AND RESOURCES, WE HAVE AN ASSET PRESERVATION PROGRAM REPORT.

GALE, DO WE NEED TO APPROVE SOMETHING HERE OR ARE WE JUST RECEIVING THE REPORT?

>> JUST RECEIVING.

>> THERE'S NO VOTE THAT I NEED TO DO OR?

>> [BACKGROUND].

>> WE NEED TO VOTE ON THIS?. JUST MAKING SURE.

YOU'VE RECEIVED THIS REPORT.

WE'VE ALL REVIEWED. WE DO NEED TO VOTE TO APPROVE THE ACCEPTANCE OF IT.

>> IT'S MULTIPLE REPORTS?

>> YES.

>> NO. I THINK WE DO THEM ALL AT ONCE.

>> YEAH. IT'S FOR EACH BUILDING SO WE CAN DO THEM TO APPROVE.

>> WITH THAT, I MOVE TO APPROVE THE ANNUAL OSPI ASSET PREVENTION PROGRAM REPORT AS SUBMITTED FOR CAMAS DISCOVERY, HAYE'S FREEDOM HIGH SCHOOL, LIBERTY MIDDLE-SCHOOL, COVERED PLAY AREA, GRASS VALLEY, AND HELEN BALLER ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS [BACKGROUND] RESERVATION.

[LAUGHTER] I DIDN'T HAVE MY READERS ON.

>> DO I HAVE A SECOND?

>> PLEASE SECOND ME.

>> I'LL SECOND IT.

>> OKAY. IT WAS MOVED BY TRACY, SECONDED BY ERICA.

ANY FURTHER DISCUSSION? ALL THOSE IN FAVOR.

>> AYE.

>> AYE.

>> OPPOSED? MOTION CARRIES THERE.

FINALLY, 12C ARE OUR CONTRACT WITH ZOOM COMMUNICATIONS.

[01:35:07]

I'M JUST UPDATING OUR CONTRACT WITH ZOOM.

>> I MOVE TO APPROVE THE CONTRACT WITH ZOOM COMMUNICATIONS FOR A TOTAL OF $237,270.93, WHICH INCLUDES SALES TAX FOR A NEW CLOUD BASED SYSTEM ACROSS THE DISTRICT.

>> I HAVE A QUICK QUESTION. [OVERLAPPING]

>> YES.

>> IS THIS THE SAME LEVEL OF ZOOM CONTRACT THAT WE ENGAGED IN DURING COVID?

>> THIS IS TOTALLY SEPARATE ZOOM.

>> USE THE MIC.

>> ZOOM DOES VIDEOCONFERENCING.

>> YEAH.

>> THIS IS THE PHONE SYSTEM.

>> OH, SORRY. [OVERLAPPING]

>> OUR PHONE SYSTEM IS NO LONGER.

IT'S AT THE END OF LIFE.

>> GOT YOU.

>> WE LOOKED AT DIFFERENT SYSTEMS. ZOOM HAD THE BEST MIX FOR WHAT WE WOULD USE.

WE WERE ABLE TO PAY FOR TWO YEARS OF ZOOM AND THEY GAVE US A YEAR FOR FREE.

>> I REMEMBER WHEN I READ THROUGH THAT BUT THEN WE JUST SAID ZOOM AND I WENT STRAIGHT TO VIDEO [LAUGHTER] CONFERENCES.

SORRY. [OVERLAPPING] THANK YOU.

>> SORRY. THIS IS A TWO YEAR CONTRACT THEN.

>> THIS FOR THE PHONE SYSTEM?

>> YES.

>> I WILL SECOND THAT MOTION.

>> IT WAS MOVED BY ERICA, SECONDED BY CONNIE.

ANY FURTHER DISCUSSION? ALL THOSE IN FAVOR.

>> AYE.

>> OPPOSED? MOTION CARRIES.

THAT BRINGS US TO THE END OF OUR REGULAR MEETING.
