GOOD EVENING, EVERYONE.

WELCOME TO OUR MAY 22ND BOARD MEETING.

[1. REGULAR MEETING CALL TO ORDER - 5:30 PM]

WE ARE GOING TO START THINGS OUT WITH THE PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE.

SO IF YOU'D RISE IF YOU'RE ABLE AND JOIN ME.

I PLEDGE ALLEGIANCE TO THE FLAG OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA AND TO THE REPUBLIC FOR WHICH IT STANDS ONE NATION UNDER GOD, INDIVISIBLE, WITH LIBERTY AND JUSTICE FOR ALL.

THANK YOU. NEXT IS OUR LAND ACKNOWLEDGMENT THAT WILL BE READ BY [INAUDIBLE] PATHMANATHAN.

I ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THE GEOGRAPHICAL REGION OF CAMAS IS LOCATED ON THE ANCESTRAL AND TERRITORIAL LANDS OF THE CHINOOK AND COWLITZ PEOPLE, AND THAT THE CHINOOK ARE STILL FIGHTING TO BE A FEDERALLY RECOGNIZED TRIBE ON THEIR OWN LAND.

THANKS [INAUDIBLE].

ALL RIGHT. ITEM TWO A ON THE AGENDA SPOTLIGHT.

[2.A. WASA Student Achievement Award - Erika Wood]

SPOTLIGHT ON STUDENTS AND STAFF.

WE HAVE OUR WASA STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT AWARD.

I'M GOING TO ASK OUR STUDENT ADVISORY COMMITTEE ADVISOR, KATIE SEIDEL TO COME ON UP AND TALK ABOUT OUR NOMINEE.

I'M GOING TO TURN AROUND. SO, YOU KNOW, THIS IS EXCITING.

THIS IS A GOOD THING. THE GOOD NEWS.

SO I'M KATIE SEIDEL AND I SERVE AS OPPORTUNITY FOR ACCESS AND INCLUSION COORDINATOR THIS YEAR FOR THE CAMAS SCHOOL DISTRICT AND HAVE BEEN ABLE TO SERVE OUR STUDENTS, OUR SECONDARY STUDENTS AS THE STUDENT ADVISORY COMMITTEE ADVISOR.

AND THIS YEAR, ONE OF THEIR GOALS WAS TO HAVE A STUDENT LED CONFERENCE.

SO A FULL DAY STUDENT LED CONFERENCE HERE AT ZACH THAT INCLUDED REPRESENTATIVES FROM ALL SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN CAMAS.

AND THIS IDEA WAS BORN AND DEVELOPED AND LED ALMOST PRIMARILY BY ERIKA WOOD.

ERIKA IS A SENIOR AT DISCOVERY THIS YEAR.

SHE'S AN INCREDIBLE LEADER.

SHE BROUGHT ALL OF OUR STUDENTS TOGETHER IN BREAKOUT SESSIONS COMMUNITY BUILDING.

SHE HAD NAN HENDRICKSON HERE AS A AS OUR KEYNOTE SPEAKER, AND IT WAS A REALLY INCREDIBLE, INSPIRING, AWESOME EVENT. AND SHE SET IT UP IN A WAY THAT IT CAN BE REPEATED ANNUALLY WITHOUT HER EVEN.

SO, PLEASE JOIN ME IN THAT INCREDIBLE CELEBRATION OF ERIKA WOOD AND THIS AWARD OF OUR WASA STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT [APPLAUSE].

THANK YOU, KATIE. OH, IT'S GREAT TO BE BACK.

GREAT TO BE BACK HERE IN CAMAS.

MY NAME IS MIKE NOWLAND AND I AM THE ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT FOR TEACHING AND LEARNING AT ESD 112.

AND I ALSO SERVE AS THE WASA, WHICH IS WASHINGTON ASSOCIATION OF SCHOOL ADMINISTRATORS.

I KNOW HOW WE USE [INAUDIBLE] SPEAK ALL THE TIME AS EDUCATORS.

I'M THE STATE CHAIR FOR THAT PROGRAM AND REPRESENT THE ESD 112 REGION AND IT IS MY PLEASURE AND HONOR TO BE HERE TONIGHT.

IT'S ALWAYS GREAT TO HONOR AND RECOGNIZE STUDENT LEADERS.

KATIE DID A NICE JOB OF DESCRIBING JUST SOME OF THE THINGS THAT ERIKA HAS BEEN INVOLVED WITH, AND I JUST WANT TO READ THE DESCRIPTION OF THE CRITERIA FOR WINNING THE WASA STUDENT LEADERSHIP AWARD.

THE WASA STUDENT LEADERSHIP AWARD RECOGNIZES OUTSTANDING STUDENT LEADERS WHO HAVE CREATED OR PLAYED A SIGNIFICANT LEADERSHIP ROLE IN INITIATIVES OR PROGRAMS THAT PROMOTE ACCESS, EQUITY OR SOCIAL JUSTICE IN THEIR SCHOOL AND COMMUNITY.

CONSIDERATION FOR RECOGNITION IS BASED ON THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA.

DEMONSTRATES LEADERSHIP AND SERVES AS A ROLE MODEL BY PARTICIPATING IN AND ORGANIZING EVENTS THAT PROMOTE RESPECT FOR DIVERSITY, EQUITY AND INDIVIDUAL DIFFERENCES THROUGH COLLABORATION AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT.

DEMONSTRATE THE ABILITY TO INSPIRE, MOTIVATE AND IMPACT THE GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT OF OTHERS.

EXEMPLIFIES INTEGRITY IN ALL WORDS AND ACTIONS, AND MAINTAINS A POSITIVE IMAGE AND PRESENCE WITHIN THE SCHOOL AND GREATER COMMUNITY.

EVOKES HOPE AND DEMONSTRATES INITIATIVE BY SEEKING WAYS TO ENRICH THE FUTURE.

AND LAST BUT CERTAINLY NOT LEAST, DISPLAYS A STRONG WORK ETHIC BOTH INSIDE AND OUTSIDE THE CLASSROOM.

SO IT IS MY HONOR TO PRESENT ERIKA WOOD WITH THE WASA STUDENT LEADERSHIP AWARD.

LET'S GIVE HER A BIG ROUND OF APPLAUSE [APPLAUSE].

[00:05:09]

CONGRATULATIONS, ERIKA.

SUPER DESERVED YOUR WE'VE WE'VE SEEN UP ON THE BOARD YOUR LEADERSHIP ON DISPLAY FOR YEARS NOW AND IT'S IT'S PRETTY REMARKABLE YOU'RE GOING TO GO FAR IN LIFE AND WE APPRECIATE EVERYTHING THAT YOU'VE DONE.

SO THANK YOU.

ALL RIGHT. ITEM THREE A, WE'RE GOING TO GO INTO OUR MILL TOWN PRIDE AWARDS NOW.

[3.A. National Security Language Initiative for Youth Scholarship Award Winner - Aran O'Day]

AND FIRST UP, OUR FIRST MILL TOWN PRIDE AWARD IS BEING PRESENTED TO ARAN O'DAY FOR THE NATIONAL SECURITY LANGUAGE INITIATIVE FOR YOUTH SCHOLARSHIP AWARD WINNER. I BELIEVE THAT CAMAS HIGH SCHOOL PRINCIPAL KELLY O'ROURKE IS HERE TO TALK ABOUT THAT.

THANK YOU. WHEREVER YOU WANT.

THERE WE GO. GOOD EVENING.

MY NAME IS KELLY O'ROURKE. I'M THE PRINCIPAL OF CAMAS HIGH SCHOOL AND I AM VERY PLEASED TO BE ABLE TO INTRODUCE OUR FIRST MILL TOWN PRIDE RECIPIENT.

I MET THERE WE GO MY ON.

STILL NO SONGS.

ALL RIGHT. GREAT.

OH, VERY NICE.

I MET ARAN.

HE WAS CURRENTLY A SENIOR AT CAMAS HIGH SCHOOL DURING LUNCH.

MY FAVORITE TIME OF THE DAY IS STUDENTS NATURAL HABITAT, WHICH IS THEIR LUNCH TIME.

SO THAT'S WHERE I GET TO INTERMINGLE WITH THE KIDS AND GET TO KNOW THEM.

SO ARAN AND I GOT TO MEET THROUGH SOME LITTLE CONVERSATIONS DURING LUNCH TIME.

ARAN HAS BEEN PART OF THE CAMAS SCHOOL DISTRICT FOR MOST OF HIS SCHOOLING.

HE STARTED AT GRASS VALLEY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL.

HE WENT TO SKYRIDGE.

HE TRANSITIONED INTO ODYSSEY.

HE WENT TO DISCOVERY HIGH SCHOOL FIRST HE WAS THERE NINTH, 10TH AND 11TH GRADE.

HE WAS MENTORED BY SOME AMAZING TEACHERS.

IN FACT, ARAN MENTIONED SOME PROMINENT MENTORS.

RON WRIGHT, WHO WAS A FORMER CAMAS HIGH SCHOOL TEACHER, TYLER MORGAN, WHO'S A CURRENT HIGH SCHOOL TEACHER.

NATHAN ALONCO, WHO CURRENTLY TEACHES AT DISCOVERY HIGH SCHOOL.

AND THEN, OF COURSE, MISS COS, WHO'S HIS MANDARIN TEACHER.

MISS COS ACTUALLY IS THE ONE WHO MENTORED AND GUIDED ARAN INTO THIS SCHOLARSHIP INITIATIVE PROGRAM.

AND AND I'M GOING TO SPEAK ON THAT FOR JUST A COUPLE OF MINUTES SO THAT, YOU KNOW, REALLY HOW EXCITING IT IS.

BUT FIRST, ARAN IS GOING TO HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO SPEND THE NEXT ACADEMIC SCHOOL YEAR IN NEW TAIPEI CITY IN TAIWAN.

FOR THE WHOLE YEAR.

HE'S GOING TO BE IMMERSED INTO THE LOCAL COMMUNITY.

HE'S GOING TO BE ABLE TO BUILD GREAT RELATIONSHIPS WITH PEERS AND THEN, OF COURSE, STUDY MANDARIN.

HE'LL SPEND THE WHOLE YEAR THERE AND THEN HE'S GOING TO COME BACK TO THE UNITED STATES.

HE'S GOING TO FINISH HIS SCHOOLING AT THE ARIZONA STATE UNIVERSITY OR ARIZONA UNIVERSITY'S FLAGSHIP PROGRAM IN CHINESE LANGUAGE. BUT I WANT TO SPEAK JUST A LITTLE BIT ON THIS, THIS SCHOLARSHIP, BECAUSE I HAD TO DO A LITTLE DIGGING MYSELF.

IT'S QUITE IMPRESSIVE.

SO THE NATIONAL SECURITY LANGUAGE INITIATIVE FOR YOUTH IS A PROGRAM OF THE UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF STATE'S BUREAU OF EDUCATIONAL AND CULTURAL AFFAIRS.

IT'S ADMINISTERED BY AMERICAN COUNCILS FOR INTERNATIONAL EDUCATION.

IT PROMOTES THE STUDY OF CRITICAL LANGUAGES LIKE CHINESE, SPECIFICALLY MANDARIN, ARABIC, HINDI, INDONESIAN, KOREAN, PARISIAN, PERSIAN, RUSSIAN OR TURKISH.

IT LAUNCHED IN 2006 AS PART OF A MULTI-AGENCY US GOVERNMENT INITIATIVE.

IT INCREASES THE NUMBER OF YOUNG AMERICANS WITH THE LANGUAGE SKILLS NECESSARY TO ADVANCE INTERNATIONAL DIALOG, PROMOTE ECONOMIC PROSPERITY, INNOVATION WORLDWIDE, AND CONTRIBUTE TO NATIONAL SECURITY BY BUILDING UNDERSTANDING ACROSS CULTURES.

MANY ALUMNI CREDIT THE PROGRAM EXPERIENCE WITH HELPING THEM IMPROVE THEIR ACADEMIC LEADERSHIP AND CROSS-CULTURAL COMMUNICATION SKILLS.

[00:10:04]

IT'S A VERY COMPETITIVE APPLICATION PROCESS.

THOUSANDS OF STUDENTS PUT THEIR APPLICATIONS IN AND THEY CHOOSE 35.

SO, ARAN, WE'RE VERY PLEASED THAT YOU HAVE BEEN GIVEN THIS HONOR.

WE'RE PROUD.

AND I THINK WE'LL PRESENT THE.

ARE WE? YEAH.

YEAH. IS IT UP HERE? ARAN, COME ON UP AND COME ON UP [APPLAUSE].

NO.

SORRY. I WAS JUST SAYING TO ASKING ARAN IF HE WANTED TO, TO PUT HIS OWN SPIN ON ALL OF THE WORK THAT WENT INTO THIS THIS ACCOMPLISHMENT.

SO, YEAH.

ARAN IF YOU DON'T MIND JUST SHARING A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOUR EXPERIENCES, YOUR THOUGHTS ON THIS GREAT ACCOMPLISHMENT.

THANK YOU. YEAH, WELL, I'M VERY HONORED TO GET THIS AWARD.

I DID THE SAME PROGRAM LAST SUMMER.

THIS PROGRAM DOES AN ACADEMIC YEAR AND A SUMMER PROGRAM, SO THIS WILL BE MY SECOND TIME GOING OVER.

BUT I REALLY JUST WANT TO THANK MS. COS BECAUSE I WOULDN'T BE WHERE I'M AT WITHOUT HER SUPPORT AND HER GUIDANCE THROUGHOUT HIGH SCHOOL.

SO THANK YOU.

MS. COS [APPLAUSE]. AND THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE AWARD.

ALL RIGHT. CONGRATULATIONS ONCE AGAIN, ARAN.

NEXT, OUR NEXT MILL TOWN PRIDE AWARD.

[3.B. 2023 Music Teacher of Excellence - Ethan Chessin]

IT'S A TWOFER TONIGHT.

ALL RIGHT. NEXT, MILL TOWN PRIDE AWARD.

WE HAVE STEVEN BARANOWSKI HERE TO TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT MR. CHESSIN. YEAH, SO WE'RE WE'RE EXCITED TO BE HERE TO TALK ABOUT ETHAN CHESSIN, WHO'S AN AMAZING CHOIR DIRECTOR WE HAVE UP AT CHS.

FOR YEARS I'VE HEARD ABOUT ETHAN WORKING AT LIBERTY, BUT BECAUSE MY MOTHER IN LAW WAS THE CHOIR DIRECTOR AT MOUNTAIN VIEW HIGH SCHOOL AND WANTED TO TELL ME ABOUT THE GREAT CHOIR TEACHER WE HAD UP AT CHS OFTEN THE CONNECTIONS HE HAS WITH STUDENTS, WHAT HE DOES IN HIS CLASSROOM.

IT'S MAGIC. IT'S AWESOME TO SEE THESE KIDS COME OUT AND PERFORM.

I LOVE THE IMPROMPTU SESSIONS.

WE'LL EVEN GET IN THE MORNING DURING ZERO PERIOD, SOMETIMES BRINGING THE KIDS DOWN, JUST MAKING IT PART OF OUR SCHOOL AND OUR BUILDING.

AND SO THANK YOU FOR THAT.

WE'RE NOT THE ONLY ONES WHO'VE NOTICED.

THE CMA FOUNDATION, THE COUNTRY MUSIC ASSOCIATION FOUNDATION ACTUALLY RECOGNIZED ETHAN RECENTLY, AND I WANT TO SHARE A LITTLE BIT ABOUT WHAT THEY ARE CHOOSING TO RECOGNIZE IN HIM. SO OVER THE LAST DECADE, THE CMA FOUNDATION HAS BEEN COMMITTED TO INVESTING IN QUALITY MUSIC EDUCATION THROUGHOUT THE COUNTRY AS THEIR WORK PROGRESSED, AND THEY'VE LEARNED MORE ABOUT THE OVERWHELMING CHALLENGES THAT FACE MUSIC, EDUCATION AND ITS EDUCATORS, THEY FELT MOTIVATED TO GO BEYOND SIMPLY SUPPORTING THE EDUCATION SYSTEM, BUT ALSO TO CHAMPION INCREDIBLE HUMAN BEINGS THAT GO WELL ABOVE AND BEYOND THEIR ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES IN THE CLASSROOM AND WHO ARE VITAL TO TO THEIR STUDENTS AND COMMUNITIES.

HONOREES FOR THIS RECOGNITION WERE SELECTED FOR THEIR COMMITMENT TO BRING HIGH QUALITY MUSIC PROGRAMS TO THEIR STUDENTS AND THE IMPACT THEY HAVE ON THEIR SCHOOL COMMUNITY THROUGH MUSIC. ETHAN HAS BEEN INVITED TO NASHVILLE, WHERE HE'LL GET TO TAKE PART IN SOME GREAT PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT, MEET SOME OF THE COUNTRY'S MUSIC'S BIGGEST STARS AND BE RECOGNIZED ON STAGE.

LAST YEAR, THE US SECRETARY OF EDUCATION, MIGUEL CARDONA, ACTUALLY WAS THE ONE HANDING OUT THOSE AWARDS.

AND SO THIS IS A PRETTY PRESTIGIOUS HONOR.

IN ADDITION TO THAT RECOGNITION, ETHAN IS GOING TO RECEIVE A $5,000 CHECK TO SUPPORT CLASSROOM NEEDS AND HIS OWN PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT.

THIS IS AN AWESOME HONOR AND WE'RE SO PROUD OF YOU, ETHAN.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR WHAT YOU DO [APPLAUSE].

[00:15:01]

I'LL JUST SAY REALLY FAST.

EVERY YEAR I FEEL MORE AND MORE SUPPORTED BY THE ADMINISTRATORS AND THE SCHOOL BOARD AND THE DISTRICT ADMINISTRATORS IN CAMAS SCHOOL DISTRICT.

SO THANK YOU GUYS SO MUCH FOR YOUR SUPPORT.

WE COULDN'T THIS IS A TEAM PROJECT AND WE COULDN'T DO IT WITHOUT WITHOUT EVERYBODY IN THE COMMUNITY INVESTING IN MUSIC AND MUSIC EDUCATION.

THANK YOU SO MUCH [APPLAUSE]. THANK YOU.

CAN I SAY ONE MORE THING? AS HE'S SHAKING HANDS.

I JUST WANT TO SAY ONE MORE THING TO RECOGNIZE HIM.

HE HAS GOTTEN OFF THE GROUND A CAMAS MUSIC BOOSTERS GROUP, ALONG WITH SOME PARENTS AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS.

AND THAT'S GOING TO CHANGE THE GAME FOR MUSIC IN THE CITY OF CAMAS AND OUR DISTRICT FOR A WHILE TO COME.

AND THAT'S BEEN AN AMAZING EFFORT THAT ALSO NEEDS TO BE RECOGNIZED.

SO THANK YOU, ETHAN [APPLAUSE].

WHILE ETHAN IS FINISHING UP AT THE OTHER END.

I HAD THE THE COFFEE TALK WHERE YOU WALK INTO A COFFEE SHOP AND BEGIN TALKING TO SOMEONE WHO'S WORKING THERE AND THEN FIND OUT THAT THEY WERE A PREVIOUS STUDENT OF THIS DISTRICT AND IT WAS A STUDENT.

AND ETHAN, I THINK YOU'LL REMEMBER HER, HER NAME IS MARY, AND SHE TRANSFERRED IN AS A SOPHOMORE TO CAMAS HIGH SCHOOL.

DO YOU REMEMBER MARY? AND SO AS WE WERE TALKING THERE, SHE SAID, THE REASON THAT I WAS SUCCESSFUL WAS MR. CHESSIN, AND SHE SAID SHE CAME IN DURING COVID, ALSO AS A SOPHOMORE IN A HIGH SCHOOL, COMPREHENSIVE HIGH SCHOOL, AND THAT HE WAS THE SOLE REASON WHY SHE WAS ABLE TO MAKE A CONNECTION WITH THE GROUP AND FIND BELONGING THERE.

SO FOR ALL OF THE NATIONAL AWARDS YOU GET, YOU ARE SO CLOSE TO STUDENTS HEARTS WITH WHAT YOU GIVE EACH OF THEM.

SO THANK YOU.

ALL RIGHT. ITEM FOUR A ON OUR AGENDA IS ITEM FOUR STUDENT REPORTS AND FOUR A ON THE AGENDA IS A REPORT FROM OUR STUDENT ADVISORY COMMITTEE.

SO MADI WILLIAMS, TEGAN SIMS AND ELLA ZIESEMER, PLEASE.

[4.A. Student Advisory Committee - Madi Williams, Tegan Sims and Ella Ziesemer]

YEAH, THAT'D BE GREAT. YEAH.

COULD YOU FACE US ACTUALLY, IF YOU DON'T MIND.

YEAH. YOU GO OVER THERE, THOUGH.

WOW. CLICK IT, CLICK IT ON, PULL IT UP.

OH, OKAY.

I THINK WE'RE GOING WITHOUT THE MIC. ALL RIGHT, WELL, YOU'RE GOING TO HAVE TO.

HELLO? OKAY.

THERE WE GO. OKAY.

HI, EVERYONE. MY NAME IS SOPHIA WADE.

I AM THE CHAIRWOMAN OF THE STUDENT ADVISORY COMMITTEE.

OR I'M MADDIE WILLIAMS. I'M A MEMBER OF THE STUDENT ADVISORY COMMITTEE.

I'M TEGAN SIMS. I'M ALSO A MEMBER.

I'M VINCENT LEE. I'M ALSO A MEMBER.

I'M FIONA XU.

I'M ALSO A MEMBER.

I'M ERIKA WOOD AND I'M ALSO A MEMBER.

MY NAME IS JUSTIN FISHER AND I'M A CO-CHAIR.

AND I'M [INAUDIBLE].

I'M ALSO A MEMBER, SO I KNOW WHAT WE USUALLY DO WHENEVER WE COME HERE IS KIND OF TALK ABOUT THE HAPPENINGS OF STUDENT ADVISORY COMMITTEE.

BUT BEFORE THAT, WE WOULD LIKE TO INVITE MISS SEIDEL TO COME UP HERE REAL QUICK.

WE HAVE A LITTLE SURPRISE FOR HER.

SO WE JUST WANT TO TAKE THIS TIME TO HONOR MISS SEIDEL FOR ALL OF THE AMAZING WORK SHE'S DONE FOR US THIS YEAR.

SHE HAS STEPPED INTO THIS NEW LEADERSHIP ROLE AND JUST DOVE IN HEADFIRST AND DONE A FANTASTIC JOB OF IT.

AND SO STUDENT ADVISORY COMMITTEE WOULD JUST KIND OF LIKE TO THANK YOU FOR ALL THE AMAZING THINGS YOU'VE DONE AND SAY THAT WE WILL MISS YOU NEXT YEAR [APPLAUSE].

OKAY. ADDING TWO.

ADDING TO WHAT SOPHIA SAID.

OH, MY GOSH. THANK YOU.

MRS. SEIDEL HAS BEEN SUCH AN AMAZING MENTOR TO EACH OF US INDIVIDUALLY.

SHE'S MADE TIME FOR EVERYBODY.

SHE'S MADE TIME FOR CONVERSATIONS AT THE BEGINNING AND END, AS WELL AS BEING OUR LEADER.

SHE'S MADE EVERYONE FEEL CONNECTED, WELCOME.

OUR IDEAS ARE RESPECTED, AND SHE'S REALLY LET US WORK AND DO WHAT WE NEED TO DO THIS YEAR WHILE ALSO ALWAYS BEING THERE TO SUPPORT US AND STEP IN AND WHATEVER SHE NEEDS TO DO.

AND WE ARE SO GRATEFUL FOR MRS. SEIDEL AND WE'RE GOING TO MISS HER INCREDIBLY NEXT YEAR AS A MENTOR AND AS A FRIEND.

YEAH [APPLAUSE]. YEAH.

JUST TO ADD ON TO THAT, WE'VE GONE THROUGH A LOT OF DIFFERENT LEADERS FOR OUR CAC IN THE PAST FEW YEARS, BUT MRS. SEIDELS' JUST BROUGHT A LOT OF STABILITY TO OUR CLUB IN THE LAST YEAR AND JUST TAKING EACH OF OUR VISIONS AND HELPED MAKE IT A REALITY.

AND SHE'S SUPER PASSIONATE ABOUT EVERYTHING WE'RE PASSIONATE ABOUT AND HAS BEEN THERE TO SUPPORT US FOR EACH OF OUR INDIVIDUAL PROJECTS.

UM, THIS IS MY FIRST YEAR DOING THE CLUB AND MRS. SEIDEL JUST DID AN AMAZING JOB MAKING ME FEEL WELCOMED AND MAKING ME FEEL LIKE I BELONG THERE.

AND SHE ALSO HELPED ME FIND MY ROLE TO MAKE THIS THE BEST CLUB THAT WE COULD, WE COULD HAVE.

SO WE'RE GOING TO REALLY MISS HER AND HER AMAZING CONTRIBUTIONS.

UM, LIKE VINCENT, THIS IS ALSO MY FIRST YEAR DOING IT, AND WE HAD THAT LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE EARLIER THIS YEAR, AND WITHOUT HER HELP, IT WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN AS SUCCESSFUL

[00:20:05]

AS IT WAS. THANK YOU FOR ALWAYS BEING SUCH A BIG BRAINSTORM, BUDDY.

I MEAN, MOST OF THE TIME WE WERE JUST YAMMERING AWAY, TRYING TO FIGURE OUT LOGISTICS.

I REALLY DO MEAN THERE WAS A LOT OF HITTING OUR HEADS AGAINST THE WALL.

BUT THANK YOU.

I CANNOT EXPRESS MY GRATITUDE.

I DO HAVE TO SAY, YOU'VE BEEN A GREAT MENTOR AND I'M SURE YOU'RE A GREAT MENTOR FOR OTHER PEOPLE IN YOUR LIFE.

I MEAN, YOU WOULD ALWAYS KEEP US ORGANIZED THROUGH NO MATTER OF WHAT IT WAS, WHETHER IT WAS FROM THE CONFERENCE OR WAS IT JUST A LITTLE GOOGLE FORM WE HAD, YOU WOULD ALWAYS JUST MAKE SURE WE WERE ORGANIZED.

YES. THANK YOU SO MUCH. YOU HAVE REALLY MADE OUR STUDENT ADVISORY COMMITTEE SO COLORFUL AND EXCITING.

AND EVERY SINGLE TIME WE HAVE A MEETING OR WE HAVE A PRESENTATION, EVERYONE IS JUST SO EXCITED TO BE THERE.

AND YOU REALLY JUST BRING SO MUCH JOY INTO IT.

YEAH. THANK YOU, MISS SEIDEL.

YES. [APPLAUSE].

ALL RIGHT.

OUR NEXT STUDENT REPORT COMES FROM DISCOVERY HIGH SCHOOL.

[4.B. Student Report - DHS - Erika Wood & Simone Callan]

WE HAVE ERIKA WOOD AGAIN AND SIMONE CALLAN.

YOU'RE GOING TO GET SICK OF ME BY THE END OF TONIGHT.

ALL RIGHT. SO HELLO, EVERYONE.

MY NAME IS ERIKA WOOD. I AM THE PRESIDENT OF DISCOVERY HIGH SCHOOL'S ASB.

AND TODAY WE HAVE TO TALK ABOUT A LITTLE BIT ABOUT WHAT DISCOVERY ASB HAS BEEN DOING.

HI, I'M SIMONE.

I'M JUNIOR CLASS TREASURER ON DISCOVERY ASB.

SO SOME OF THE THINGS WE'VE BEEN DOING THIS YEAR ARE FUNDRAISERS.

WE DO A LOT OF DIFFERENT TYPES OF FUNDRAISERS.

ONE BEING OUR DINE ROUNDS.

SO DIFFERENT RESTAURANTS WILL PARTNER WITH US AND GIVE US SOME KICKBACK FROM PARTICIPATION FROM OUR STUDENTS.

WE ALSO HAD A MARCH MADNESS TOURNAMENT IN MARCH, WHICH WAS A STUDENT CHOSEN TO BE DODGEBALL, AND THAT WAS A DONATION PER TEAM.

AND THEN COMING UP, WE HAVE A FUNDRAISER FOR STEAM NIGHT, WHICH IS MY SPECIAL PROJECT, AND I'LL TALK ABOUT IT A LITTLE BIT MORE IN DEPTH IN A MINUTE.

SO LIKE SIMONE WAS SAYING, SOME THINGS WE'VE BEEN DOING TO BUILD COMMUNITY INCLUDE OUR BIG CHALKBOARD WALLS HONORING DIVERSITY MONTHS WITHIN DISCOVERY HIGH SCHOOL THROUGH THOSE CHALKBOARD WALLS, WE'VE BEEN ALSO DOING HOOPS OF FIRE BASKETBALL TOURNAMENTS, DRIVE UP MOVIE NIGHTS AND A PLETHORA OF OTHER FUN ACTIVITIES TO HELP BRING LIGHT TO ALL THE DIFFERENT IMMINUTE COMMUNITIES WITHIN DISCOVERY HIGH SCHOOL.

WE'VE ALSO DONE A LOT OF FUN DANCES THIS YEAR, INCLUDING OUR FALL FEST, OUR AURORA BOREALIS BALL AND OUR MOST RECENT DANCE, OUR ONE NIGHT IN WONDERLAND PROM.

LEADING UP TO THOSE DANCES, WE ALWAYS INCLUDE A SPIRIT WEEK THAT SOMEHOW RELATES BACK TO THE THEME THAT WAY WE'RE BUILDING UP ANTICIPATION THROUGHOUT THE WEEK TO MAKE THE BIG NIGHT EVEN MORE SPECIAL.

ALL RIGHT. AND FINALLY, KIND OF TOUCHING BACK ON TO DRIVE UP MOVIE NIGHTS.

AND WHAT WE HAVE COMING UP AT THE END OF JUNE.

RIGHT NOW, WE HAVE A HUGE FIELD DAY THAT'S BEING PLANNED BY OUR FRESHMAN ASB, WHICH IS GOING TO BE QUITE A FUN TIME.

AND WE ALSO HAVE ANOTHER DRIVE UP MOVIE NIGHT COMING ON ON JULY.

NO, NOT JULY.

WE'RE NOT IN SCHOOL IN JULY.

IN JUNE 3RD, WE'RE GOING TO BE SHOWING THE KARATE KID AND HOPEFULLY GOING TO BE HAVING A BLAST WITH ALL OF US IN OUR CARS HANGING OUT AND HAVING A GREAT TIME WATCHING A MOVIE. OKAY.

SO TOO TALL FOR THIS STAND.

BACK TO STEAM NIGHT, WHICH IS MY SPECIAL LITTLE CHILD.

IT IS A NIGHT FOR ELEMENTARY SCHOOLERS FROM SECOND TO FIFTH GRADE TO COME TO DISCOVERY AND LEARN NOT ONLY ABOUT THE STEAM FIELD SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, ENGINEERING, ART AND MATHEMATICS, BUT ALSO LEARN ABOUT WHAT WE DO IN A PROJECT BASED PROGRAM.

AND IT'S ALL THROUGH THE FUN THEME OF THE THE THE SPHERES OF THE EARTH.

SO THE ATMOSPHERE HYDROSPHERE, LITHOSPHERE AND BIOSPHERE.

AND THAT'S GOING TO BE HAPPENING MAY 30TH.

SO IT'S COMING UP VERY QUICK AND IT'S A GREAT WAY TO BUILD EXCITEMENT FOR YOUNGER STUDENTS TO COME TO DISCOVERY AND SEE IF IT'S A RIGHT FIT FOR THEM.

SOMETHING ELSE FUN WE'VE DONE RECENTLY WAS WE HAD A PRETTY COOL EVENT WE DID FOR OUR STUDENT APPRECIATION TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK.

WE MADE A CUSTOM PARKING TICKETS THAT WE PUT ON ALL OF THE TEACHERS CARS AND THEY BASICALLY SAID, YOU KNOW, PARKING VIOLATION FOR BEING SUCH A GOOD TEACHER.

AND THE FINE WAS TAKE A DAY OFF OR, YOU KNOW, SHOW YOURSELF SOME SELF LOVE.

AND THAT WAS A REALLY FUN WAY TO BUILD UP COMMUNITY.

SO THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR LISTENING TO OUR UPDATE REPORT AND RISE PHENIX [APPLAUSE].

[00:25:05]

THANK YOU.

[4.C. Student Report - LMS - Ilam Anbazhagan]

ALL RIGHT. OUR NEXT STUDENT REPORT COMES FROM THE STUDENTS AT LIBERTY MIDDLE SCHOOL.

YEP. THAT'S IT. THANK YOU [APPLAUSE].

ANY QUESTIONS? ANYTHING. THANK YOU SO MUCH.

YOU'VE BEEN YOU'VE HAD A BUSY YEAR.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

I APPRECIATE THAT. ALL RIGHT.

MOVING ON TO OUR LAST REPORT HERE FROM OUR WE HAVE PRESENTATIONS FROM OUR DECA TEAM.

[4.D. DECA Presentations]

SO I'M GOING TO ASK THEIR ADVISOR, SUSIE DOWNS TO COME UP AND BRING THE WHOLE CREW IN.

THERE SHE IS. COME ON UP TO THE PODIUM HERE.

SO THANK YOU FOR LETTING US COME TONIGHT.

WE WANTED TO HIGHLIGHT OUR ICDC QUALIFIERS THAT WENT TO ORLANDO, FLORIDA, BACK AT THE END OF APRIL.

CAMAS DECA HAS ABOUT 140 MEMBERS IN OUR CHAPTER.

WE QUALIFIED 92 FOR STATE THIS YEAR, WHICH IS A RECORD, AND WE QUALIFIED 31 FOR INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION.

AND SO WE KEEP RAISING THE BAR AND WE KEEP WORKING HARDER, DON'T WE MR. [INAUDIBLE]. ANYWAY, WE SOME OTHER GREAT THINGS OUR PROGRAM HAS DONE THIS YEAR IS WE RAISED $10,000 FOR ALL PAWS ON DECK, WHICH IS GOING TO THE WEST COLUMBIA GORGE.

SO AND WE ALSO DONATED MONEY THROUGH OUR COFFEE PROJECT AND WE RAISED $1,500.

SO WE'VE DONATED ALMOST $12,000 TO CHARITIES.

SO THE KIDS ARE LEARNING A LOT ABOUT COMMUNITY SERVICE.

SO IT'S NOT ALL COMPETITION, BUT IT'S ABOUT BEING A PART OF A COMMUNITY AND A CLUB, BUT ALSO GIVING BACK TO THE COMMUNITY.

AND WE TOOK 19 WRITTEN PROJECTS AND 12 ROLE PLAYERS TO INTERNATIONALS THIS YEAR.

WE HAD TEN MAKE FINALS, WHICH IS I MEAN, JUST GETTING OUT OF WASHINGTON DECA IS A HUGE FEAT IN ITSELF BECAUSE THEY'RE ONE OF THE TOP THREE IN THE NATION FOR COMPETITION.

SO I TELL THE KIDS WHEN WE GET THERE, I GO.

YOU MADE IT. YOU ARE A ROCK STAR, SO JUST GO GIVE IT YOUR BEST.

AND WE ENDED UP HAVING TEN FINALISTS AND TWO MEDALISTS, AND WE ENDED UP WITH 10 TWO PIECES OF GLASS, WHICH IS IT'S ACTUALLY ACRYLIC, BUT WE CALL IT GLASS ANYWAY.

SO WE'RE PRETTY PROUD OF OUR KIDS.

THIS IS A HUGE ACCOMPLISHMENT.

AND THEN WE ALSO HAD A TOP FIVE FOR OUR ALL PAWS ON DECK CAMPAIGN, WHICH I REALLY FELT LIKE IT SHOULD HAVE HAD ONE OF THESE TOO, BUT IT DIDN'T.

[00:35:01]

BUT THAT'S MY THOUGHTS ANYWAY, SO JUST WANTED TO LET MY KIDS SHARE A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THEIR EXPERIENCE.

I HAVE SEVERAL SENIORS.

SORRY IF THEY WERE REALLY LOUD OUT THERE.

THEY ARE READY TO GRADUATE.

WE'RE KIND OF READY FOR THEM TO GRADUATE NOW.

ANYWAY, SO I'M GOING TO LET THEM TAKE IT OVER FROM HERE.

AGAIN, I'M SUSIE DOWNS AND THIS IS BRADY [INAUDIBLE] AND WE ARE THE CRAZIES THAT PUT UP WITH THESE GUYS.

OKAY. MY NAME IS MADDIE, AND I, ALONG WITH [INAUDIBLE], RAN A CAMPAIGN CALLED TREE TO CUP, WHICH IS THE COFFEE PROJECT MRS. DOWNS WAS REFERRING TO.

AND TO COMPLETE THIS PROJECT, WE USED THE PROJECT MANAGEMENT PROCESS TO DO IT, AND SO THAT WAS THE EVENT CATEGORY WE WERE IN.

AND WE ESSENTIALLY WROTE A REPORT ABOUT HOW WE USED PROJECT MANAGEMENT TOOLS TO COMPLETE THE CAMPAIGN AND WHAT THE CAMPAIGN WAS.

IT TAUGHT STUDENTS BRANDING AND SELLING SKILLS, AND THOSE SKILLS THEN ENABLED THEM TO CREATE THEIR OWN COFFEE BRANDS.

AND SOME OF YOU MAY BE AWARE OF THOSE BRANDS THAT WE SOLD BACK IN DECEMBER, AND WE THEN SOLD THOSE AND RAISED MONEY TO OFFSET COMPETITION COSTS FOR OUR STUDENTS SO WE CAN ATTEND TRIPS LIKE ORLANDO.

SO THAT WAS THE COFFEE PROJECT AND IT ENDED UP PLACING THIRD INTERNATIONALLY [APPLAUSE].

HI, I'M [INAUDIBLE].

AND ON MY PROJECT, WHICH I DID WITH MY PARTNER AT TRINITY, WAS AN OPERATIONS RESEARCH PROJECT.

SO EVERY YEAR THEY HAVE A DIFFERENT PROMPT.

AND THIS YEAR'S WAS ABOUT ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE AND HYPER PERSONALIZATION AND INCORPORATING IT INTO BUSINESSES.

SO MY PARTNER AND I CHOSE THE YOGA STUDIO, WHICH IS LIKE A LOCAL COMPANY, PARALLEL 45, AND WE PROPOSED LIKE AN APP AND A DIGITAL LIBRARY THAT'S PERSONALIZED TO EACH CUSTOMER. AND WE PRESENTED THIS AT THE COMPETITION AT BOTH STATE AND INTERNATIONAL LEVEL.

AND THROUGH THIS WE WERE ABLE TO LEARN REALLY GOOD PUBLIC SPEAKING SKILLS, HOW TO APPLY BUSINESS TO REAL WORLD WORLDS.

AND WE LEARNED A REALLY VALUABLE LESSON IN WORKING TOGETHER AS A TEAM.

AND WE ALSO WROTE A REPORT CONDUCTING FOCUS GROUPS AND CONDUCTING RESEARCH TO REALLY UNDERSTAND HOW WE CAN BENEFIT CUSTOMERS IN THE COMPANY [APPLAUSE].

HELLO, MY NAME IS SOPHIA RUNDLE AND I COMPETED INDIVIDUALLY IN A ROLE PLAY.

THIS IS A LITTLE BIT DIFFERENT THAN THE PREVIOUS PROJECTS THAT MY FRIENDS HERE AT DECA KIND OF EXPLAINED TO YOU GUYS.

THIS CATEGORY IS MORE ON THE SPOT THINKING.

YOU'RE ESSENTIALLY GIVEN A CASE STUDY WHERE YOU'RE TO ASSUME THE ROLE OF A MANAGER, A PROMOTIONAL DIRECTOR, AND THEN EACH CASE STUDY HAS A PROBLEM THAT KIND OF IS IN REGARDS TO BUSINESS. SINCE I WAS IN THE CATEGORY QUICK SERVE RESTAURANT MANAGEMENT, IT ALL KIND OF PERTAINED TO LIKE FAST FOOD RESTAURANTS, CHAIN RESTAURANTS, AND YOU HAVE SOME TYPE OF PROBLEM AND YOU HAVE TO COME UP WITH SOLUTION IN TEN MINUTES.

SO YOU READ THIS ENTIRE PROMPT, COME UP WITH A SOLUTION, HIT ALL OF THE KEY INDICATORS, AND THEN OBVIOUSLY USE PRESENTATION AND PROBLEM SOLVING SKILLS AFTER YOU HAVE THOSE TEN MINUTES TO KIND OF OUTLINE YOUR PRESENTATION, YOU GIVE A TEN MINUTE PRESENTATION TO A JUDGE AND THIS HELPS YOU COME UP WITH CREATIVE SOLUTIONS.

THERE'S DIFFERENT CATEGORIES OBVIOUSLY, THAT AREN'T QUICK SERVE RESTAURANT MANAGEMENT, BUT THEN YOU ALSO HAVE TO GARNER THE BEST SCORE POSSIBLE, HIT ALL OF THE INDICATORS, TRY TO COME UP WITH THE MOST CREATIVE SOLUTION POSSIBLE.

AND YEAH, THIS HAS DEFINITELY HELPED ME A LOT WITH ON THE SPOT THINKING AND JUST CREATIVELY THINKING AND ALSO FURTHERING, YOU KNOW, MY LOVE FOR BUSINESS AND THINGS LIKE THAT. IT'S BEEN REALLY GOOD AND I GOT FIRST PLACE IN MY CATEGORY [APPLAUSE].

SO THAT WAS JUST A LITTLE SCENARIO OF THE THREE DIFFERENT CATEGORIES WE COMPETED IN THAT WE PLACED IN.

BUT I JUST WANTED TO BRING THE KIDS IN AND LET THEM SHOW OFF THEIR GREAT SKILLS TO MAKE IT TO INTERNATIONALS THIS YEAR [APPLAUSE].

SO JUST BEFORE WE GO HERE, SO JUST PHENOMENAL WORK.

IT'S IT SEEMS TO BE A YEAR AFTER YEAR THING THAT WE SEE THIS AND WE SEE THIS COMING AND IT'S GREAT.

WE LOVE IT EVERY YEAR. JUST CONGRATULATIONS AND THANK YOU TO YOUR ADVISORS AND INSTRUCTORS TOO, FOR FOR KEEPING THIS GOING.

HOW HOW MANY OF YOU ARE GRADUATING AGAIN? OH, WELL, THEY ALL EVEN THEY ALL EVEN, LIKE, CLUMP OVER HERE ON THIS SIDE, TOO.

OKAY. ALL RIGHT. WELL, CONGRATULATIONS.

HOW MANY OF YOU HAVE BEEN DOING IT FOR MULTIPLE YEARS, THEN? YEAH. ALL RIGHT.

WELL, THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

AND AND CONGRATULATIONS.

AND ALL THE BEST TO ALL OF YOU.

THANKS AGAIN [APPLAUSE].

ALL RIGHT.

OUR NEXT ITEM ON THE AGENDA IS BOARD COMMUNICATION.

[5.A. Board Communication]

[00:40:01]

JUST TIME FOR US TO UPDATE EACH OTHER ON STUFF.

FIRST OF ALL, BEFORE I TURN IT OVER TO ALL OF YOU, I FORGOT TO MENTION AT THE TOP OF THE MEETING THAT CONNIE HENNESSEY HAS TAKEN ILL TODAY AND WASN'T ABLE TO BE AT THE MEETING.

SO WE SEND CONNIE OUR BEST AND ALSO LISA GRIFFITH IS PINCH HITTING FOR DR.

ANZALONE TODAY. DR. ANZALONE WAS OUT OF TOWN AND FOR A WEDDING AND HAD A MEDICAL EMERGENCY WITH HIS FAMILY MEMBER.

AND THAT'S KEEPING HIM OUT OF TOWN.

SO THOUGHTS GOING OUT TO HIM AND HIS AND HIS FAMILY FOR A QUICK RECOVERY THERE.

BUT HE'LL BE BACK SOON.

SO THANK YOU FOR STEPPING IN LAST MINUTE FOR THAT LISA.

ANYTHING THAT ANYBODY WANTS TO SHARE OR UPDATE THE BOARD ON FOR BOARD COMMUNICATION? YEAH, IT'S BEEN A BUSY COUPLE OF WEEKS.

SO ALL OF US ATTENDED THE WSSDA REGIONAL MEETING WAS THE WASHINGTON STATE SCHOOL DIRECTORS ASSOCIATION DISTRICT AREA SIX. WE DO THIS ABOUT MAYBE TWICE A YEAR, GET TOGETHER WITH FELLOW BOARD MEMBERS AND SUPERINTENDENTS FROM OUR DISTRICT, WHICH REACHES AS EAST OF SKAMANIA, GOLDENDALE AND NORTH UP TO KELSO.

SO IT'S OH, AND YES, AND WEST ALL THE WAY TO THE TO THE COAST.

THAT'S RIGHT. AND SO WE HAD DINNER HERE.

I WANT TO THANK AGAIN LAURA WITH SODEXO.

SHE PROVIDED A BEAUTIFUL AND VERY YUMMY MEAL.

WE HAD THE MEETING HERE.

WE WERE ABLE TO SHARE WITH OUR OUR PEERS AROUND DISTRICT SIX, BEAUTIFUL BOARD MEETING AREA.

AND WE TALKED ABOUT FAMILY COMMUNICATION, FAMILY AND STUDENT VOICE.

AND WE ALL DIVVY UP INTO INDIVIDUAL TABLES WHERE WE NONE OF US SIT TOGETHER.

SO WE'RE ABLE TO HEAR AND SHARE WITH VARIOUS FOLKS FROM ACROSS OUR AREA THINGS THAT WE'RE DOING.

AND, AND AND I'M REALLY PROUD OF WHAT WE GET TO SHARE.

AND I LOVE IT WHEN I HEAR FROM SUPERINTENDENTS.

WE BORROWED THAT IDEA FROM YOU LAST YEAR WHEN WE HEARD THAT FROM YOU, THINGS SUCH AS OUR STUDENT ADVISORY COMMITTEE, OUR CITIZENS ADVISORY COMMITTEE, OUR COFFEE TALKS THAT WE HAVE, BECAUSE WHEN WE RECEIVE PUBLIC COMMENT AT THESE BOARD MEETINGS, IT'S NOT A TIME FOR DISCUSSION. IT'S IT'S A TIME TO LISTEN.

SO WE GET TO HAVE COFFEE TALKS AND WE'VE HAD A COUPLE ALREADY THIS YEAR.

I KNOW DURING THE PANDEMIC WE REALLY MISSED THAT OPPORTUNITY.

BUT HOW WE INCORPORATE HEARING AND LISTENING AND INCORPORATING THAT VOICE INTO WHAT WE DO.

SO WHAT A GREAT TIME AND WE'LL SEE EVERYBODY AGAIN AT OUR YEARLY EVENT IN THE FALL.

I ATTENDED A CAREGIVER SUPPORT GROUP FOR STUDENTS WHO IDENTIFY AS LGBTQIA+2 AND AS WE KNOW.

PAST COUPLE OF YEARS HAVE BEEN HARD ON ALL OF US.

ESPECIALLY STUDENTS.

ANY TIME THAT WE CAN SUPPORT OUR FAMILIES, SUPPORT OUR STUDENTS AND THE PEOPLE THAT LOVE THEM AND TAKE CARE OF THEM AND SHOW THAT WE SEE YOU, WE ARE HERE FOR YOU.

YOU HAVE A PLACE HERE IN OUR COMMUNITY.

I REALLY APPRECIATE THAT.

AND I KNOW THE FAMILIES THAT CAME REALLY APPRECIATED THAT AND APPRECIATED THAT TIME TO HAVE COMMUNITY AND JUST TALK WITH ONE ANOTHER AND FEEL SUPPORTED WITH ONE ANOTHER. MANY OF US HERE SUPPORTED A STUDENT THIS WEEKEND, MICAH SNELL AND MICAH'S MILES FOUNDATION.

IT WAS A FUNDRAISER OVER THE WEEKEND FOR RAISING FUNDS FOR CREATING INCLUSIVE PLAYGROUNDS, AND IT WAS A PERFECT DAY FOR THAT.

SO WHEN I HEAR THAT PBL IS DOING [INAUDIBLE] ROUNDS OR DODGEBALL, MAN, YOU TELL US ABOUT IT BECAUSE WE WOULD LOVE TO GET IN ON THAT. AND WE LOVE SUPPORTING OUR STUDENTS AND OUR FAMILIES.

AND SO MAYBE DO THAT DODGEBALL AGAIN, MAYBE NEXT YEAR BECAUSE WE'D LOVE TO BE AT THAT.

SO AND THAT'S IT FOR ME.

I THAT'S A LOT IN THE LAST TWO WEEKS.

YEAH. SO.

YOU'VE BEEN BUSY, ERIKA.

THAT'S A LOT. A FEW THINGS THAT I'VE BEEN DOING.

IT'S BEEN A BUSY MONTH. THIS END OF THE SCHOOL YEAR.

I THINK EVERYTHING JUST IS HAPPENING ALL AT ONCE.

DR. ANZALONE AND ALLEN FLECK AND I DID SOME OF THE HAYES CAPSTONE PRESENTATIONS, WHICH IS LIKE SIMILAR TO THE CAMAS HIGH SCHOOL SENIOR PROJECT EVENT.

AND SO WE SAT IN ON SOME STUDENTS LAST WEEK AND DID THAT.

MAYBE IT WAS TWO WEEKS AGO.

I ALSO WENT TO THE LIBERTY MIDDLE SCHOOL ANNUAL PRODUCTION AT GARVER THEATER.

IF YOU HAVEN'T BEEN IN GARVER, IT'S BEAUTIFUL.

THE PRODUCTION WAS GREAT, SO I ATTENDED THAT.

I'M ALSO ON THE BOARD OF CASCADIA TECH FOUNDATION, THE CASCADIA TECH ACADEMY.

SO I WENT TO THEIR FUNDRAISING AUCTION THAT THEY HAD.

[00:45:02]

I KNOW MARILYN WAS ALSO THERE, AND DEREK JAQUES AND DOUG QUINN WAS THE EMCEE.

SO THAT WAS A GREAT NIGHT RAISING MONEY FOR CASCADIA TECH.

ANOTHER FUN THING I DID WAS MR. MARSHALL INVITED US TO HIS BIOLOGY CLASS AND LISA'S GOING TO TALK ABOUT THIS IN THE SUPERINTENDENT BOERKE REPORT, BUT THEY HAVE PARTNERED WITH THE BURKE MUSEUM IN MONTANA WITH A FOSSIL DIG.

AND SO THE KIDS ON DAY THREE, THEY GOT THESE SAMPLES FROM MONTANA WITH SOME SOIL AND THEY GOT TO GO THROUGH THAT AND FIND THESE LITTLE MINI MICROFOSSILS THAT ARE IN THERE.

AND IT WAS REALLY AMAZING TO SEE THE KIDS DO THAT.

I MEAN, THERE WAS LIKE LITTLE TINY SKULLS OF INSECTS OR LITTLE WINGS OR IT WAS A REALLY COOL PROJECT.

SO THEY REALLY SIFT THROUGH ALL THESE FOSSILS AND THEN THEY SEND THEM BACK TO THE TO MONTANA AND TO THE MUSEUM.

SO IT'S A GREAT PARTNERSHIP THAT MR. MARSHALL HAS WITH THAT, I BELIEVE THE SITE VISITS.

WE ALL DO. WE YOU'LL PROBABLY TOUCH ON THAT.

BUT COREY AND I AND BONNIE DID SOME SITE VISITS EARLIER THIS WEEK TOO, SO IT'S A BUSY TIME OF YEAR.

YEAH. IF THERE'S ANYTHING YOU WANT TO SHARE ABOUT THE SITE VISITS, I WAS JUST GOING TO SAY, YEAH, WE GOT TO.

OR I'M SORRY. DID YOU WANT TO? I WASN'T GOING TO PUT YOU THROUGH REPEATING EVERYTHING THAT WAS JUST SAID, BUT I WAS GOING TO TOP IT OFF WITH THAT SITE VISIT TO PRUNE HILL, WHICH HAPPENED TO BE MY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, NOT MY ELEMENTARY, BUT THE ONE MY KIDS WENT TO.

SO IT WAS REALLY NICE TO GO BACK AND VISIT AND JUST ALWAYS IN AWE OF WHAT THE TEACHERS CAN DO.

IT'S AMAZING HOW MUCH THEY CAN, I GUESS, PROVIDE FOR ALL THOSE KIDS AND HOW ENGAGED THOSE KIDS WERE.

IT WAS A GREAT MORNING FOR ME TO SEE THAT.

YEAH, THAT WAS GREAT. WE GOT TO BE PART OF SOME OF THE MORNING MEETINGS.

I KNOW. TRACEY AND I GOT TO SIT IN ON A COUPLE OF THOSE AND SEE SOME OF OUR SCIENCE OF READING CURRICULUM THAT WE'VE BEEN LEARNING SO MUCH ABOUT THE LAST COUPLE OF YEARS.

REALLY SEEING THAT IN ACTION WAS GREAT TO SEE FROM THE SOUND WALL AND ALL OF THEM GOING THROUGH, YOU KNOW, A LOT OF VISUAL CUES.

IT WAS INTERESTING. DEFINITELY NOT THE WAY I LEARNED TO READ.

WE WENT TO WENT TO OUR PROJECT BASED LEARNING CAMPUS AND GOT TO SEE ODYSSEY MIDDLE SCHOOL, DISCOVERY HIGH SCHOOL.

WE SPENT A LOT OF TIME LEARNING ABOUT PINHOLE CAMERAS, AND THAT WAS GREAT.

WE LEARNED ABOUT PINHOLE CAMERAS AND HOW TO MAKE THOSE AND THE EXPOSURE TIME OF INDOOR VERSUS OUTDOOR.

GOT TO SEE THE MAKERSPACE A LITTLE BIT AND SEE SOME OF THE PROJECTS GOING ON IN THERE.

SO THE DISCO SALES AND DISCO SALES.

YES, WE GOT TO DO THAT. YES, WE GOT TO EXPERIENCE THAT AS WELL AS THEIR COMPETITION ACROSS THE WAY AT CAFE ODD.

SO YEAH, BUT YEAH JUST GREAT THINGS GOING ON THERE.

SO, YOU KNOW, WE ALWAYS LOOK FORWARD TO WE TRY AND HIT EVERY BUILDING IN THE DISTRICT AT LEAST ONCE A YEAR.

AND SO IT WAS THAT WAS JUST, IT WAS GREAT WEATHER, SUCH A BEAUTIFUL CAMPUS UP THERE.

THE VIEWS OUT OF SOME OF THOSE ROOMS WERE BETTER THAN WHAT I HAVE IN MY HOUSE, THAT'S FOR SURE.

SO VERY COOL.

ALSO, I KNOW THAT MR. BARANOWSKI TOUCHED ON THIS WHEN ETHAN WAS GETTING HIS MOST DESERVED AWARD, BUT I'VE BEEN FORTUNATE THE LAST COUPLE OF WEEKS TO BE ABLE TO SIT IN ON SOME OF THE FOUNDING MEETINGS FOR THE CAMAS MUSIC BOOSTER CLUB.

AND LIKE STEPHEN WAS SAYING, I THINK THAT'S SUCH A GREAT TOOL, SUCH A GREAT TOOL FOR THE DISTRICT TO THE WAY THAT THE SCOPE OF IT'S A K 12 THING.

IT'S NOT JUST AT ONE SCHOOL OR JUST FOR CHOIR OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT.

IT'S ALL MUSIC AND THE LEVEL OF SUPPORT AND THE LEVEL OF COMMITMENT THAT I'VE SEEN FROM PARENTS AND FAMILY MEMBERS AND ESPECIALLY MR. CHESSON, WHO IS REALLY KIND OF SPEARHEADED THE WHOLE THING.

IT'S JUST IT'S FANTASTIC FROM A FUNDRAISING ASPECT, FROM AN ADVOCACY, VOLUNTEERING.

IT'S JUST IT'S GOING TO REALLY PAY DIVIDENDS ALL AROUND.

AND IT'S GREAT TO SEE MUSIC EDUCATION ALIVE AND WELL AND GROWING IN CAMAS.

SO YEAH.

ANYTHING ELSE? WELL, SPEAKING OF MUSIC EDUCATION, I SAW LIBERTY MIDDLE SCHOOL AT THE HAZEL DELL PARADE THIS WEEKEND.

TOP NOTCH. SO YEAH.

ANYTHING ELSE FROM BOARD? COMMUNICATION. OKAY, GREAT.

ALL RIGHT. THAT MOVES US ON TO ITEM FIVE A ON THE AGENDA, WHICH IS PUBLIC COMMENT.

[6.A. Public Comments Instructions]

SO FIRST, I DO HAVE MY LIST HERE THAT I'LL GO THROUGH THE BOARD VALUES PUBLIC INPUT.

THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE BOARD IS TO ACTIVELY LISTEN AND REFLECT ON PUBLIC COMMENTS THE BOARD MAY ONLY DISCUSS AND ACT UPON ITEMS INCLUDED IN THE WRITTEN AGENDA.

FOR THAT REASON, BOARD MEMBERS CANNOT RESPOND TO ANY COMMENTS OR QUESTIONS DURING PUBLIC COMMENT, BUT CAN ASK THE SUPERINTENDENT TO FOLLOW UP ON ISSUES RELATED OR ISSUES RAISED DURING PUBLIC TESTIMONY.

GUIDELINES FOR PUBLIC INPUT EMPHASIZE THE RESPECT AND CONSIDERATION OF OTHERS.

BOISTEROUS CONDUCT WILL NOT BE PERMITTED AT ANY MEETING OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS, NOR WILL ANY HARASSING OR THREATENING REMARKS BE TOLERATED.

COMPLAINTS ABOUT INDIVIDUAL EMPLOYEES SHOULD BE DIRECTED TO THE SUPERINTENDENTS OFFICE AS A PERSONNEL MATTER.

THE BOARD REQUESTS THAT ANYONE WHO HAS SUBMITTED WRITTEN PUBLIC COMMENT REFRAIN FROM READING THOSE COMMENTS DURING THIS PORTION OF OUR MEETING TO GIVE OTHER COMMUNITY MEMBERS

[00:50:02]

AN OPPORTUNITY TO SHARE THEIR COMMENTS.

EACH PERSON PROVIDING PUBLIC COMMENT WILL HAVE A TOTAL OF THREE MINUTES.

ONCE CALLED UPON, PLEASE STEP UP TO THE MICROPHONE, FACE THE BOARD AND STATE YOUR NAME FOR THE RECORD.

THE BELL WILL RING AT THREE MINUTES TO REMIND YOU THAT YOUR TIME IS UP.

LOOKS LIKE WE HAVE ABOUT NINE PUBLIC COMMENTS, SO I'LL GO AHEAD AND GO IN ORDER HERE.

OUR FIRST ONE IS JOHN HAHN.

MY NAME IS JOHN HAHN.

I'M A LICENSED MARRIAGE AND FAMILY THERAPIST.

MY MOST IMPORTANT ROLE IS BEING THE FATHER OF A NINE YEAR OLD LITTLE BOY.

UNTIL THREE WEEKS AGO.

HE ATTENDED LACAMAS LAKE ELEMENTARY, BUT WE HAVE MOVED HIM TO ANOTHER SCHOOL DUE TO A DEATH THREAT HE RECEIVED FROM ANOTHER STUDENT.

THE DECISION TO REMOVE HIM WAS EVERY BIT ABOUT KEEPING HIM SAFE, AS WELL AS THE REVELATION THAT THIS TYPE OF OCCURRENCE AND OTHER DISPLAYS OF VIOLENCE AT LACAMAS LAKE HAVE BEEN COMMONPLACE FOR YEARS.

IN THE LAST THREE WEEKS, WE HAVE DISCOVERED, TO OUR SURPRISE, THAT WE ARE NOT THE ONLY FAMILY WHO HAD A CHILD BE THREATENED BY ANOTHER STUDENT.

ROUGHLY THREE DOZEN OTHER FAMILIES HAVE TOLD US THAT THEY, TOO, HAVE HAD EXPERIENCED THEIR CHILD BEING BULLIED, THREATENED OR PHYSICALLY INJURED AT.

PARENTS SPOKE OF CLASSROOMS BEING CLEARED DUE TO STUDENTS BECOMING OUT OF CONTROL AND THE TEACHERS ONLY OPTION WAS TO REMOVE THE OTHER STUDENTS FROM THE CHAOS IN THE CLASSROOM.

KIDS WOULD HIDE UNDER THEIR DESKS WHEN CHAOS ERUPTED, ONLY TO HAVE TO BE PULLED OUT IN ORDER TO EVACUATE.

THESE ARE NOT ONE TIME EVENTS.

WE WERE TOLD THEY HAPPENED WITH REGULARITY.

THIS VIOLENCE PREDATES COVID 19.

IT HAS OCCURRED IN GRADES OTHER THAN MY SON'S THIRD GRADE CLASS.

IT INVOLVES VARIOUS STUDENTS AND HAS BEEN WITNESSED OR INVOLVED PARENTS WHOSE SOLE COMMONALITY WAS THEY ATTENDED.

LEE. AS WE HEARD FROM THESE OTHER FAMILIES, THREE COMMON THEMES EMERGED.

NUMBER ONE. THIS VIOLENCE HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR MANY YEARS.

NUMBER TWO, THERE'S A LACK OF FOLLOW THROUGH AND CONSEQUENCES FROM THE STAFF.

IN ALMOST ALL CASES, THE PARENTS SPOKE OF ADMINISTRATORS REPORTING OR THEY REPORTED THAT THE ADMINISTRATORS.

THEY WERE THERE, CONCERNS WERE GLOSSED OVER.

DESPITE PREVIOUS VIOLENCE AT LACAMAS LAKE AND NO ACTION WAS TAKEN.

NUMBER THREE, THERE'S A LACK OF COMMUNICATION FROM THE SCHOOL TO THE FAMILY WHEN A VIOLENT, THREATENING OR UNSAFE SITUATION HAD OCCURRED.

BEING BULLIED, HARASSED, INJURED BY OTHER STUDENTS AT SCHOOL.

BEING PHYSICALLY THREATENED CAN BE TERRIFYING.

WHAT IS EQUALLY DAMAGING TO STUDENTS IS THE FEELING THAT ADULTS ARE NOT PROTECTING THEM.

THAT IS A THEME.

NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE.

WHAT WILL YOU SAY TO THE CHILDREN AT LEA WHO HAVE ENDURED VIOLENCE THAT THREE DOZEN PARENTS SPOKE OF? SPARE ME PLATITUDES OF KIDS ARE RESILIENT.

VIOLENCE AT LARGE IS NOT NEW.

THE SCHOOL ADMINISTRATION.

I'VE HAD THEIR POSITION FOR MANY YEARS.

WE EXPECT THE SCHOOL DISTRICT TO DO IS TO HOLD THE ACTIONS.

ALL THESE ADMINISTRATORS.

ACCOUNTABLE IF THEY AREN'T ABLE TO IMPLEMENT THE POLICIES AND PROCEDURES.

THAT ARE AIMED TO KEEP OUR KIDS SAFE.

REMOVE THEM AND FIND THOSE WHO CAN.

THANK YOU. OUR NEXT PUBLIC COMMENT IS JENNIFER CHESHIRE.

MY NAME IS JENNIFER CHESHIRE.

SOME OF US HERE ARE WEARING PURPLE TO SHOW OUR LOVE FOR LACAMAS LAKE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL KIDS.

ON WEDNESDAY, MAY 3RD, A CHILD AT LACAMAS LAKE ELEMENTARY SCREAMED AT MY EIGHT YEAR OLD SON, I'M GOING TO KILL YOU.

I'M GOING TO KILL YOUR FAMILY.

I'M GOING TO PUT YOU IN A BOX.

I WANT YOU TO IMAGINE FOR A SECOND THAT SOMEONE HAD JUST SCREAMED THOSE WORDS AT YOU.

HOW MUCH LEARNING DO YOU THINK YOU WOULD BE CAPABLE OF FOR THE REST OF THE DAY? NOW IMAGINE THAT YOU HAVE BEEN BULLIED, HARASSED, PUBLICLY, HUMILIATED, PHYSICALLY INJURED AND TRAUMATIZED AT SCHOOL.

IMAGINE THIS IS THE ATMOSPHERE THERE.

HOW MUCH LEARNING IS GETTING DONE? YOU CAN'T LEARN WHEN YOU'RE SCARED.

I COULD SPEND HOURS TALKING ABOUT OUR SON AND EVERYTHING WE TRIED TO DO TO ADDRESS HIS SAFETY.

LACAMAS LAKE. I'LL SUMMARIZE BY SAYING THAT DESPITE OUR EFFORTS, ABSOLUTELY NO SERVICES HAVE BEEN OFFERED TO OUR SON.

NO SAFETY PLAN OTHER THAN THAT THE SCHOOL STAFF WILL TRY TO KEEP THE OFFENDING CHILD AWAY FROM HIM.

[00:55:04]

AFTER YEARS OF BULLYING, HARASSMENT, PHYSICAL INJURY, HUMILIATION AND TRAUMA, THIS DEATH THREAT WAS THE FINAL STRAW.

WE WITHDREW HIM FROM THE SCHOOL.

HE WOULD NEVER FEEL SAFE THERE.

AFTER THIS HAPPENED, I STARTED TALKING TO OTHER LACAMAS LAKE PARENTS, AND WHAT I FOUND WAS SHOCKING.

WHAT HAPPENED TO OUR SON ISN'T UNUSUAL FOR LEE.

IT'S THE NORM.

I'VE RECEIVED A TIDAL WAVE OF EMAILS, FACEBOOK MESSAGES, TEXTS AND OTHER PHONE CALLS FROM PARENTS TELLING ME WHAT HAPPENED TO THEIR CHILDREN THERE.

I'LL NAME OFF A FEW INCIDENTS THAT HAVE HAPPENED BROKEN COLLARBONE, THROWN DOWN THE STAIRS, DRAGGED THROUGH THE MUD, BROKEN WRIST, BROKEN ANKLE, FACIAL CONTUSION, BRUISES, SCRAPES, PINCH MARKS, DEATH THREATS, SCREAMING CHAIR THROWING, THREATS OF BEING BEATEN UP, THREATS OF BEING STABBED, HIDING UNDER DESKS OUT OF FEAR, PUNCHED IN THE FACE AND STOMACH, SO SCARED THAT THEY PEED THEIR PANTS, HIT IN THE FACE BY THROWN OBJECTS.

AND THE LIST GOES ON.

AND I'LL ASK AGAIN HOW MUCH LEARNING IS GOING ON THERE? I WAS SHOCKED THAT THE SITUATION WAS FAR WORSE THAN I REALIZED, AND I KNEW I HAD TO DO SOMETHING.

SO I STARTED WRITING DOWN THE STORIES FROM PARENTS.

I HAVE COMMUNICATED WITH OVER 40 PARENTS AND GENERATED 12 PAGES OF FAMILY ACCOUNTS OF PHYSICAL AND PSYCHOLOGICAL HARM AT LEE, WHICH IS IN FRONT OF YOU HERE. A PATTERN EMERGED LACK OF SCHOOL COMMUNICATION WITH PARENTS, LACK OF SCHOOL STAFF, RESPONSE TO INCIDENTS, SWEEPING INCIDENTS UNDER THE RUG, GLOSSING OVER AND ALLOWING PHYSICAL AND PSYCHOLOGICAL TRAUMA TO PERSIST.

PLEASE. THANK YOU.

NEXT IS MARCY ZABEL.

HELLO, MY NAME IS MARCY ZABEL AND I'M THE CAMAS EDUCATION ASSOCIATION PRESIDENT.

FOR THE PAST MONTH, A COUPLE OF MONTHS, MY MEMBERS HAVE HAD TO ENDURE THIS GRUELING PROCESS OF REDUCTION IN STAFF.

THE ALARM SET OFF BY THE DISTRICT IN JANUARY WAS CONFUSING BUT EXPECTED SINCE WE WERE HEADING INTO A BARGAINING YEAR.

I SAY CONFUSING BECAUSE OVER THE YEARS, LOOKING AT NUMBERS AND TRENDS, CSG FUND BALANCE HAS BEEN NEARLY 6 MILLION OFF FROM PROJECTED.

FOR EXAMPLE, IN 2018 TO 2019, THE ACTUAL FUND BALANCE WAS APPROXIMATELY 2.8 MORE THAN PROJECTED.

IN 2019 2020, THE ACTUAL FUND BALANCE WAS APPROXIMATELY 6.6 MILLION MORE THAN BUDGETED.

IN 2020, 2021, THE ACTUAL FUND BALANCE WAS APPROXIMATELY 6.4 MILLION MORE.

IN 2021, 2022, THE ACTUAL FUND BALANCE WAS APPROXIMATELY 6 MILLION MORE THAN BUDGETED.

AND AT THIS TIME WE ARE PROJECTED TO BE 2.5 MILLION MORE THAN BUDGETED ACCORDING TO THE RECENT BUDGET REPORT.

SO MY THOUGHT IS WHAT IS THE PLAN FOR THIS 2 MILLION? OUR STAFF, STUDENTS AND COMMUNITY DESERVE TO KNOW HOW THESE FUNDS WILL BE USED TO SUPPORT OUR STAFF, OUR STUDENTS MOVING FORWARD.

AS SAID, THIS PROCESS WAS VERY HARD ON ALL INVOLVED AND I HOPE WE CAN REFLECT ON THIS PROCESS AND ENSURE THAT WE DO BETTER SHOULD WE FACE THIS AGAIN.

I ALSO WANT TO THANK THE CSD BARGAINING TEAM FOR MEETING WITH US.

I LOOK FORWARD TO FURTHER DISCUSSIONS ON HOW WE CAN BEST SERVE AND SUPPORT ALL STUDENTS IN OUR DISTRICT.

THANK YOU. NEXT IS DAN ARE.

THANK YOU FOR THE OPPORTUNITY TO ADDRESS YOU THIS EVENING.

IF SOMEONE WALKS INTO A CROWDED ROOM WITH A SIGN THAT SAYS DON'T BE A CRAPPY PERSON AND YOU IMMEDIATELY JUMP OUT OF THE CROWD AND SAY, HOW DARE YOU SAY THAT ABOUT ME, IT MIGHT BE TIME TO REEXAMINE YOUR LIFE.

EARLIER TODAY, I HELD A SIGN THAT SAID, DON'T BE A SELF-IMPORTANT HYPOCRITE WITHOUT ANY MORE WORDS BEING SAID.

A GROUP OF ATTENDEES AT THIS MEETING IMMEDIATELY TOOK OFFENSE.

I THINK THAT SPEAKS VOLUMES.

THIS GROUP DOES NOT LIVE HERE IN THE FEW THAT DO DON'T HAVE KIDS IN OUR SCHOOLS.

I DO.

ONE OF OUR MIDDLE SCHOOLS IS NAMED DISCOVERY.

AND I THINK THAT'S IMPORTANT FOR A REASON, BECAUSE MIDDLE SCHOOL IS A TIME OF DISCOVERY.

ALL SCHOOL IS.

WE FIND OUT WHO WE ARE.

WE ALSO FIND OUT WHO WE AREN'T.

AND WE FIND SOMEONE WHO INSPIRES US.

AS A WHITE, CIS, HETEROSEXUAL, ENGLISH SPEAKING MAN, I STILL MANAGE TO FEEL LIKE AN OUTSIDER IN MIDDLE SCHOOL.

AND I'M GUESSING THAT A LOT OF THE OTHER PEOPLE IN HERE HAVE THE SAME EXPERIENCE.

UNTIL I FOUND THE THEATER TEACHER WHO SHOUT OUT TO MR. HANEY, WHO HAS THE BEST NAME EVER.

MR. HANEY SHOWED ME THAT IT WAS OKAY TO BE A LITTLE BIT DIFFERENT THAN EVERYONE ELSE AROUND ME.

NOW WE HAVE LGBTQIA TWO PLUS PEOPLE ALL OVER THE SCHOOL DISTRICT.

AND AT THE END OF THE DAY, I THINK THE PEOPLE WHO ARE SPEAKING ARE AFRAID OF KNOWLEDGE.

THEY'RE AFRAID BECAUSE THEY WANT CHILDREN TO SEE AS FEW REALITIES AS POSSIBLE.

[01:00:04]

THEIR WORLD IS CHANGING AND THAT'S SCARY FOR THEM.

AND IF THEY CAN MAKE THE WORLD SMALLER, THEY CAN HOPE TO UNDERSTAND IT AGAIN.

BUT THERE'S ONE OTHER POSSIBILITY.

THE OTHER POSSIBILITY IS THAT THEY THINK EXPOSURE TO THESE IDEAS, EXPOSURE TO DIVERSITY, EQUITY AND INCLUSION WILL CAUSE CHILDREN WHO OTHERWISE WOULD BE LIKE ME, STRAIGHT, HETEROSEXUAL, CISGENDER TO CHANGE.

AND I THINK THAT SPEAKS VOLUMES, JUST LIKE WALKING INTO THAT ROOM WITH THAT SIGN.

I THINK PERHAPS WHAT IT IS, IS THAT SOME OF THESE PEOPLE DID HAVE A CHOICE.

BUT THEY DIDN'T KNOW IT AT THE TIME AND THEY REGRET HAVING NOT MADE IT.

SO I DON'T KNOW ABOUT YOU.

I NEVER HAD THAT CHOICE.

I KNEW WHO I WAS.

IF THAT IS THE CASE.

I HOPE THAT THIS BOARD CONTINUES.

TO SEE A CLEAR PATH.

TO ENCOURAGE MORE INCLUSIVITY.

TO ENCOURAGE.

MORE CONSIDERATION TO.

TO MAKE SURE THAT THESE SAD, LONELY, REGRETFUL PEOPLE WHO ARE SAD WHEN THEY LOOK DOWN BETWEEN THEIR LEGS FOR SOME REASON, DON'T TAKE IT OUT ON OUR KIDS. WHO ARE JUST TRYING TO GET THROUGH WHAT IS AN INCREDIBLY DIFFICULT TIME OF THEIR LIFE.

NAMELY FINDING OUT WHO THEY ARE.

AND THERE'S NO REASON FOR A WHOLE BUNCH OF OUTSIDERS TO SHOW UP AND TELL US THAT OUR KIDS DON'T DESERVE TO BE THE AMAZING, THOUGHTFUL, BEAUTIFUL GOING TO BE MEMBERS OF SOCIETY.

YOU TAKE CARE OF US IN OUR OLD AGE THAT WE'RE TRAINING THEM TO BE.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR HARD WORK.

NEXT IS JENNIFER LOWERY.

HELLO. THANK YOU FOR MAKING TIME FOR PUBLIC COMMENTS.

MY NAME IS JENNIFER LOWERY AND I HAVE TWO KIDS IN THE DISTRICT.

I'M A LONGTIME SCHOOL VOLUNTEER AND AN ARDENT SUPPORTER OF LEARNING.

I SAW SOME ONLINE ACTIVITY TODAY THAT INSPIRED ME TO SPEAK TONIGHT IN SUPPORT OF SEEING AND SERVING EVERY STUDENT.

THIS INCLUDES STUDENTS OF ALL RACES, ALL GENDERS AND ALL ABILITIES, ALL.

THAT'S WHAT PUBLIC SCHOOL MEANS FOR THE PUBLIC.

IT MEANS MEETING THE STUDENT WHERE THEY ARE AT.

IT MEANS HIRING QUALIFIED STAFF AND TEACHERS THAT REPRESENT THE DIVERSITY OF OUR COMMUNITY.

PUBLIC EDUCATION IS A VITAL PART OF WHAT MAKES HIGHER EDUCATION AND CAREER OPPORTUNITIES ACCESSIBLE TO ALL OF OUR STUDENTS.

TO THOSE THAT WANT TO DENY OR PRETEND DIVERSITY OF RACE OR GENDER OR LEARNING DIFFERENCES DO NOT EXIST.

I INVITE YOU TO START PUTTING SOME TIME IN WITH THE STUDENTS THEMSELVES.

START UNDERSTANDING HOW MUCH WEALTH WE HAVE IN THIS DISTRICT.

SO MUCH HEART, CREATIVITY, PERSEVERANCE AND TENACITY.

TO THOSE THAT CLAIM YOU NEED TO PROTECT OUR KIDS FROM OURSELVES AND OUR COMMUNITY, I INVITE YOU TO VOLUNTEER.

GET TO KNOW US.

WE SEE YOU AND WE SERVE YOUR KIDS ANYWAYS.

THANK YOU. NEXT IS SHAWNA POSEY.

GOOD EVENING. MY NAME IS SHAWNA POSEY.

I'M A 1998 GRADUATE OF CAMAS HIGH SCHOOL, A FORMER DISTRICT EMPLOYEE, A CURRENT RESIDENT OF THE DISTRICT, AND THE MOTHER TO TWO BOYS.

MY OLDEST IS AN EIGHTH GRADER AT LIBERTY AND MY YOUNGEST IS IN FIFTH AT LACAMAS LAKE.

AS A FORMER PUBLIC SCHOOL EDUCATOR IN THE NEIGHBORING DISTRICT FOR NEARLY 20 YEARS, I'VE ALWAYS HOPED TO MAKE MY WAY BACK TO CAMAS TO CONTINUE MY CAREER.

BUT OVER THE PAST FEW YEARS, I HAVE THANKED GOD THAT HAS NEVER HAPPENED.

WHY, MIGHT YOU ASK? BECAUSE I'M ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTED WITH THE CAMAS SCHOOL DISTRICT AND HONESTLY, WITH THE ENTIRE PUBLIC EDUCATION SYSTEM.

THE INDOCTRINATION, THE PLANNED AGENDAS, THE PROPAGANDA AND THE PROPAGANDA THAT IS TAKING OVER OUR SCHOOLS AND CLASSROOMS IS SICKENING.

OVER THE PAST TWO YEARS, MY YOUNGEST SON HAS ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS BEEN ASKED TO TURN HIS 1776 AMERICAN FLAG.

LETS GO BRANDON SHIRT INSIDE OUT BECAUSE IT'S OFFENSIVE TO OTHERS.

AND LAST YEAR HIS TEACHER EVEN USED A SHARPIE TO BLACK OUT THE LETTERS LGB HE HAD DRAWN NEXT TO AN AMERICAN FLAG WITH THE USA.

BUT YET IT IS ACCEPTABLE FOR OTHER STUDENTS TO WEAR VARIOUS RAINBOW GOT PRIDE IN BLM SHIRTS AND OKAY FOR TEACHERS AND STAFF TO DISPLAY PRIDE, FLAGS AND BLM SIGNS IN OUR SCHOOLS AND IN THEIR CLASSROOMS. IF A 1776 AMERICAN FLAG LGB SHIRT OFFENDS PEOPLE AND MY SON IS ASKED TO TURN IT INSIDE OUT, WHEN WILL THE STUDENTS WEARING RAINBOW GOT PRIDE AND BLM SHIRTS BE ASKED TO TURN THEIRS INSIDE OUT? OR THE TEACHERS AND STAFF ASKED TO REMOVE THE FLAGS AND SIGNS FROM THEIR CLASSROOMS BECAUSE THOSE SHIRTS, FLAGS AND SIGNS ARE JUST AS OFFENSIVE.

ON MAY 2ND, VIA PARENT SQUARE, I RECEIVED A NOTIFICATION ABOUT A WORKSHOP THE DISTRICT WAS HOSTING TITLED STUDENT WELLNESS WORKSHOP FOR FAMILIES WITH LGBTQ TWO PLUS STUDENTS.

THIS WORKSHOP WAS BEING HOSTED AND HELD IN A SCHOOL DISTRICT FACILITY AND WAS FACILITATED BY A DOCTOR WHO IDENTIFIES AS AN OUT QUEER, CISGENDER WHITE WOMAN FROM THE PACIFIC

[01:05:04]

NORTHWEST. IF YOU'RE GOING TO PROVIDE THE FAMILIES OF THE LGBTQ TWO PLUS STUDENTS A WORKSHOP WITH A DOCTOR PRESENTING, THEN MAYBE YOU NEED TO BE EQUITABLE TO ALL FAMILIES AND HOST A WORKSHOP FOR DIVORCED FAMILIES ON HOW TO HELP THEIR CHILDREN NAVIGATE LIFE AND DIVORCED PARENTS, OR A WORKSHOP ON CO-PARENTING STRATEGIES.

CURRENTLY, THE NATIONAL DIVORCE RATE FOR ADULTS AGES 25 TO 49 IS 24 PER 1000 PEOPLE, WHICH MEANS THAT OF THE APPROXIMATELY 7000 STUDENTS IN YOUR DISTRICT, 168 HAVE DIVORCED PARENTS.

NATIONALLY, IT'S ESTIMATED THAT ONE INCH 10,000 BABIES WHO ARE BORN BIOLOGICALLY AS A MALE AND THREE AND 100,000 BABIES THAT ARE BORN BIOLOGICALLY AS A FEMALE ARE SOMEDAY DIAGNOSED WITH GENDER DYSPHORIA, MEANING APPROXIMATELY 7000 STUDENTS.

APPROXIMATELY OF YOUR 7000 STUDENTS, THAT THE LIKELIHOOD THAT A STUDENT WOULD TRULY BE SUFFERING FROM GENDER DYSPHORIA IS PRETTY MINIMAL.

SO PLEASE TELL ME WHERE YOUR WORKSHOP NEED REALLY IS.

PEOPLE QUESTION WHY MY CHILDREN ARE STILL IN PUBLIC EDUCATION WHEN I FEEL SO STRONGLY ABOUT THE INDOCTRINATION AND I HAVE PERSONALLY MOVED ON TO TEACH IN PRIVATE SCHOOLS.

OTHERS ASK WHY I WORRY ABOUT MY CHILDREN BEING INDOCTRINATED IN THE SCHOOL SYSTEM.

I MOST CERTAINLY DO. BUT I KNOW I AM RAISING MY BOYS TO ADVOCATE AND SPEAK FOR THEMSELVES, TO QUESTION THE INDOCTRINATION BEING FORCED UPON THEM AND TO STAND UP FOR HIS RIGHTS. CRAIG AMANDA, WHEN DOREEN.

ERIC MAYBE THOSE NAMES MEAN SOMETHING TO YOU IF I ATTACH PETE ROSENKRANZ TO THEM, YES, THOSE ARE THE SCHOOL BOARD MEMBERS AND SUPERINTENDENT FROM LE CENTER.

BE MORE LIKE LE CENTER.

BE CHANGE. MAKE THE DIFFERENCE.

DO BETTER. CAMAS. NEXT IS GAIL POSEY.

HI, MY NAME IS GAIL POSEY.

WE HAVE HAD PROPERTY OR LIVED IN THE CAMAS DISTRICT FOR OVER 45 YEARS.

I HAVE FOUR GRANDCHILDREN AND CAMAS SCHOOLS AND BOTH OUR CHILDREN GRADUATED FROM CAMAS.

WHAT'S HAPPENED TO THE SCHOOL DISTRICT AND COMMITMENT TO EDUCATION? I'M COMPLETELY DISMAYED.

I REMEMBER CAMAS AS BEING A SMALL COMMUNITY WITH SMALL TOWN VALUES.

WHY ARE YOU NOT FIGHTING FOR ALL OUR KIDS? JUST THE MINORITY.

IT STARTS WITH TAKING A GOOD, HARD, LONG LOOK AT WHAT WE ARE TEACHING OUR CHILDREN AND BE WILLING TO BE THE CHANGE.

LET'S START WITH COMMON CORE.

HAVE YOU RESEARCHED IT? COMMON CORE IS A FEDERAL INITIATIVE HAVING BEEN CREATED BY A SMALL GROUP OF PEOPLE, INCLUDING A FEW TEACHERS.

COMMON CORE SETS GOALS AND STANDARDS, BUT LEAVES THE CURRICULUM MATERIALS IN THE CONTROL OF THE STATES AND THE SCHOOL BOARDS.

HOW ABOUT WE SET OUR CHILDREN UP FOR SUCCESS, NOT FAILURE.

FOR EXAMPLE, COMMON CORE MATH DOES NOT INCLUDE HAVING KIDS MEMORIZE MULTIPLICATION TABLES.

THEY SAY IT'S JUST NOT AS USEFUL.

IT TEACHES THEM TO PUT DOTS IN MULTIPLE CIRCLES AND THEN COUNT THE DOTS.

HOW DO YOU GET THROUGH LIFE? COUNTING ON YOUR FINGERS OR COUNTING DOTS IN CIRCLES? OH, THAT'S RIGHT. WE JUST GET OUT OUR PHONES AND USE OUR CALCULATOR APP.

IF YOU TESTED KIDS ABOVE FIFTH GRADE, YOU WOULD FIND THAT MOST COULD NOT DO A SIMPLE MULTIPLICATION PROBLEM IN THEIR HEAD.

YET WE FORCED THEM TO TAKE YEARS OF ALGEBRA AND GEOMETRY TO GRADUATE.

AND LET'S SPEND TWO YEARS LEARNING A FOREIGN LANGUAGE.

I KNOW THE COLLEGE REQUIRES TWO YEARS OF EACH, BUT HOW MANY GRADUATES ARE GOING ON TO A FOUR YEAR COLLEGE? LET THE PARENTS HELP THEIR CHILD DECIDE IF THEY'RE GOING TO COLLEGE.

THEN TAKE THE TWO YEARS OF EACH.

RECENT STATISTICS SHOW THAT 55% OF HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATES HAVE NO PLANS TO ATTEND COLLEGE OR ARE UNCERTAIN IF THEY WERE EVER ATTEND, LET ALONE THE FACT THAT MOST FAMILIES CAN'T EVEN AFFORD A COLLEGE EDUCATION.

HOW ABOUT THEIR HIGH SCHOOL ELECTIVES? MY GRANDSON TOLD ME HIS ELECTIVES FOR NEXT YEAR ARE A YEAR OF BAND OR CHOIR OR A SPLIT CLASS OF DRUMMING AND TECHNOLOGY.

MUSIC IS GREAT, BUT NOT FOR EVERYONE.

IT'S TIME TO OFFERS THE STUDENTS SOME CHOICES OF LIFE SKILLS CLASSES LIKE FINANCE, CIVICS, COOKING MECHANICS, BOTANY, COMMUNICATIONS SKILLS THEY WILL USE AS THEY LEARN TO SURVIVE BEYOND HIGH SCHOOL.

RECENTLY, I WAS DOING SOME BAKING WITH MY GRANDCHILDREN.

THEY DIDN'T KNOW WHAT MEASUREMENTS WERE.

THEY DIDN'T KNOW THAT TWO CUPS EQUAL A PINT OR THAT THREE TEASPOONS EQUAL A TABLESPOON.

WHEN THEY TRIED TO READ THE INGREDIENTS ON MY OLD RECIPE CARDS, THEY COULDN'T THEY CAN'T READ CURSIVE.

THEY ARE NOT TAUGHT TO READ OR WRITE CURSIVE IN SCHOOL.

WHAT A DISSERVICE THIS IS TO OUR CHILDREN.

ALL OF OUR ORIGINAL FOUNDING DOCUMENTS WERE WRITTEN IN CURSIVE THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE, THE BILL OF RIGHTS, ALL WRITTEN IN CURSIVE.

AT SOME POINT, THE GENERATIONS WE LEAVE BEHIND WILL NOT EVEN BE ABLE TO READ THE ORIGINAL DOCUMENTS OUR COUNTRY WAS FOUNDED ON.

WE'RE WASTING PRECIOUS LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES.

DON'T ASSUME THAT EVERY STUDENT IS GOING ON TO COLLEGE.

TEACH OUR KIDS WHAT THEY NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN LIFE AFTER HIGH SCHOOL.

DO THE JOB YOU'RE ELECTED TO DO FOR THE PEOPLE WHO ELECTED YOU TO DO IT.

SELECT CURRICULUM AND STAFF THAT ARE DEDICATED TO EDUCATING OUR YOUTH.

NEXT IS [INAUDIBLE].

HELLO, MY NAME IS [INAUDIBLE].

I'M A JUNIOR AT SACHSE AND FOR THE LAST YEAR I'VE BEEN IN THE CHINESE PROGRAM AT SACHSE WITH MISS COX,

[01:10:05]

AND I'D JUST LIKE TO SAY THANK YOU.

I'VE HEARD THAT THEY RENEWED CHINESE FOR NEXT YEAR, AND I THINK A LOT OF STUDENTS IN THAT PROGRAM HAVE FORGED REALLY GOOD RELATIONSHIPS WITH EVERYONE ELSE IN THE PROGRAM.

AND WITH MISS COX, LIKE YOU SAW THE EXAMPLE OF AARON, AND THERE'S ALSO ME AND EVERYONE IN THAT CLASS.

SO I GUESS JUST THANK YOU FOR THAT.

AND I HOPE THAT CHINESE CAN CONTINUE FOR MORE YEARS AND THAT WE CAN GET MORE PERIODS NEXT YEAR FOR MORE KIDS TO LEARN CHINESE.

THANK YOU. NEXT IS [INAUDIBLE].

I'M SORRY. HELLO AGAIN.

MY NAME IS JAQUES GERTSON AND I'M A JUNIOR AT DISCOVERY HIGH SCHOOL.

FIRST OFF, I WANT TO SAY THANK YOU FOR ALLOWING OUR PTO AND STUDENTS TO BE A PART OF THE HIRING PROCESS FOR OUR NEW PRINCIPAL.

HAVING OUR STUDENTS INVITED TO INTERVIEW THE CANDIDATES WAS A GREAT EXPERIENCE, WE THINK.

DR. DAN HOOD IS AN AMAZING PRINCIPAL OF CCR AND WE ARE EXCITED TO HAVE HIM ON OUR CAMPUS.

HOWEVER, AS OUR PRINCIPAL, WE ASKED TO GET SOMEONE NEW, SOMEONE WHO WOULD BE IMPARTIAL, SOMEONE WHO WOULD NOT FAVOR DISCOVERY HIGH SCHOOL OR THE CAMAS CONNECT ACADEMY.

THAT WAS OUR ONE REQUEST.

DR. HOOD HAD OVER 15 YEARS OF ONLINE SCHOOLING EXPERIENCE, AND NOW HE'LL ALSO BE THE PRINCIPAL OF PROJECT BASED LEARNING, WHICH IS THE POLAR OPPOSITE.

WE ARE PROMISED THAT DISCOVERY HIGH SCHOOL WILL NOT BE FORCED TO BECOME A PART OF THE CCR, BUT THAT INSTEAD WE WERE UNIFYING.

HOW CAN WE UNIFY WHEN THERE WILL ALWAYS BE AN UNDENIABLE BIAS? WE WILL BOUNCE BACK FROM THIS, BUT WE ARE ALL BURNT OUT.

WE PROVE AGAIN AND AGAIN THAT YOU DO NOT LISTEN, THAT YOU DON'T CARE.

AND I ASK MYSELF IF IT'S WORTH IT.

WHAT AM I EVEN FIGHTING FOR? A SCHOOL FILLED WITH TEACHERS AND A CCR PRINCIPAL, ALL WHO AREN'T TRAINED IN PROJECT BASED LEARNING? IF I WANTED TO GO TO A TRADITIONAL SCHOOL, I WOULD BE THERE.

DON'T BRING IT TO US.

SCHOOL BOARD. AS A MEMBER OF THE SAVE OUR STAFF TEAM, WE'VE SPOKEN QUITE OFTEN OVER THE PAST THREE MONTHS, SO SOMETHING YOU MUST HAVE LEARNED ABOUT ME RIGHT NOW.

SOMETHING YOU MUST HAVE LEARNED ABOUT ME BY NOW.

JUST LIKE THE REST OF MY SCHOOL.

I'M NOT A QUITTER. WE HEAR WHAT IS HAPPENING IN OUR COMMUNITY AND WE FIGHT FOR CHANGE.

SO WE WILL KEEP CALLING YOU OUT.

I MOVED HERE OVER THE SUMMER FOR DISCOVERY HIGH SCHOOL BECAUSE I'M SO INVESTED IN PROJECT BASED LEARNING, AND NOW A PART OF ME WANTS TO LEAVE, GO TO AN ENTIRE DISTRICT, ANOTHER DISTRICT ENTIRELY SO MANY PEOPLE HAVE TALKED TO FEEL THE SAME.

I'VE TRIED MY BEST FOR THREE MONTHS STRAIGHT TO MAKE YOU LISTEN, TO MAKE YOU UNDERSTAND.

AND I'M SO TIRED OF FIGHTING.

I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO FIGHT FOR MY EDUCATION.

YOU'VE ASKED US OVER AND OVER TO CONVINCE PEOPLE TO COME TO THE DISTRICT, AND I ASK YOU RIGHT BACK, WHO WOULD WANT TO WHEN SO MANY OF US WHO ARE ALREADY HERE WANT TO LEAVE? YOU SAY EVERYONE IS BEING AFFECTED, SO WHY AM I HERE FOR THE THIRD BOARD MEETING IN A ROW STANDING IN FRONT OF YOU TO BEG FOR MY SCHOOL? WHY IS NOBODY FROM THE OTHER SCHOOLS HERE FIGHTING FOR THEIR TEACHERS? THANK YOU. ALL RIGHT.

THAT WAS OUR FINAL PUBLIC COMMENT.

WE'RE NOW GOING TO MOVE ON TO THE BUSINESS PORTION OF OUR MEETING.

YOU'RE WELCOME TO STAY AND LISTEN AS WE CONDUCT OUR BUSINESS OR WELCOME TO LEAVE AT ANY TIME.

LET'S SEE. WE ARE DOWN TO WE SEE ITEM SEVEN A, WE HAD HUMAN RESOURCES ITEM ADDED TO THE CONSENT AGENDA.

SO WITH THAT, I'LL GO DOWN TO ITEM EIGHT CONSENT AGENDA AND LOOK FOR A MOTION IN A SECOND.

[8. CONSENT AGENDA]

I MAKE A MOVE TO APPROVE THE CONSENT AGENDA? I'LL SECOND THAT. MOVE BY ERIKA.

SECONDED BY TRACEY. ANY FURTHER DISCUSSION? ALL THOSE IN FAVOR? AYE. OPPOSED.

MOTION CARRIES. ALL RIGHT.

THAT MOVES DOWN TO ITEM NINE.

[9.A. Superintendent's Report]

OUR SUPERINTENDENTS REPORT.

NINE A AND LISA GRIFFITH, OUR ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT.

THANK YOU.

AGAIN. I KNOW DR.

ANZALONE WOULD PREFER TO BE HERE TO SHARE HIS SLIDES WITH YOU, AND I WILL DO MY LEVEL BEST TO BE ABLE TO DESCRIBE THE THINGS THAT HE'S INCLUDED IN THESE SLIDES FOR YOU. SO FIRST, AS HE DOES, AS YOU DO WITH THE COMMUNITY OUTREACH THAT YOU DO AND TO OUR DISTRICT.

THIS LIST, THE COMMUNITY OUTREACH THAT HE'S BEEN DOING THIS PAST MONTH.

AND I KNOW THAT WHEN HE SPEAKS TO YOU, THIS IS ONE OF HIS VERY FAVORITE PARTS OF THE JOB IS TO BE OUT AND MEETING OUR STUDENTS AND OUR STAFF AND OUR FAMILIES. AND SO YOU SEE MANY OF THE REGULAR ITEMS THAT APPEAR, SUCH AS THE CITIZENS ADVISORY AND SO ON.

AND AS WELL, THE BOARD SITE VISITS, WHICH YOU'VE ALREADY SPOKEN TO.

AND THE ONE OF THE NEW THINGS THAT'S ON THERE IS THAT YOU HEARD OUR STUDENT ADVISORY COMMITTEE STUDENTS

[01:15:08]

SPEAK ELOQUENTLY ABOUT KATIE SEIDEL AND WHAT SHE HAS BROUGHT AND HOW SHE HAS LED THEM.

AND DR.

ANZALONE IS VERY EXCITED THAT HE IS THE NEXT ADVISOR FOR THE STUDENT ADVISORY COMMITTEE AND HAS ALREADY BEEN WITH STUDENTS FOR THE LAST TWO MEETINGS AND LOOKS FORWARD TO BRINGING THAT VOICE INTO THE DECISIONS THAT WE MAKE AND THE PLANNING THAT WE DO.

AS ALWAYS, A CURRENT ENROLLMENT UPDATE AND THIS IS AS OF MAY 15TH, 2023, AND YOU SEE THAT WE ARE DOWN SIX STUDENTS, UP ONE AT ELEMENTARY AND DOWN SEVEN AT SECONDARY.

THIS IS A TIME OF YEAR THAT WE TEND TO SEE MORE MOVEMENT IN FAMILIES AS THE SCHOOL YEAR ENDS.

BUT WE'RE ALSO LOOKING INTO THIS TO MAKE SURE THAT WE KNOW WHERE OUR STUDENTS ARE LANDING.

AND THEN I HAVE THE PRIVILEGE OF SPEAKING WITH YOU TONIGHT ABOUT OUR ALL STUDENT WELLNESS PROGRAM AND THE REASON THAT IT'S CALLED ALL STUDENT.

AND WE MEAN EVERY STUDENT AND EACH STUDENT IS MOSTLY SO THAT IT APPEARS FIRST IN THE LIST OF RESOURCES THAT WE HAVE ON THE WEBSITE FOR FAMILIES.

SO THIS WAY ALPHABETICALLY, YOU WILL ALWAYS SEE IT THERE I AM PRESENTING TO YOU TONIGHT ON THIS PROGRAM, IN PART BECAUSE THIS TIME OF YEAR IS USUALLY WHEN WE COME BACK TO YOU, YOU HAVE SHOWN A DEDICATION AND A RESPONSIBILITY TO NURTURING THE SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL LEARNING OF OUR STUDENTS, FAMILIES AND STAFF.

AND THIS IS ONE OF THE PRODUCTS THAT WE ARE ABLE TO PROVIDE FOR OUR FAMILIES AND THE ON THE WEBSITE. SO RATHER THAN NAVIGATE THE WEBSITE, I HAVE A COUPLE SCREENSHOTS HERE FROM IT, BUT THIS IS UNDER THE STUDENT LEARNING RESOURCES AND AGAIN, IT'S THE FIRST ONE THAT'S LISTED THERE BECAUSE IT'S ALL STUDENT WELLNESS.

BUT ONE OF THE THINGS THAT IT DOES IS IT PROVIDES SOME BACKGROUND FOR US ABOUT WHAT REALLY IS SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING.

WHAT DO WE MEAN BY SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING, AND THEN SOME ADDITIONAL RESOURCES SO THAT OUR STAFF AND FAMILIES CAN ALSO READ, WATCH, LISTEN AND LEARN MORE ABOUT THAT.

IN ADDITION, THE WEBSITE HAS GROWN SINCE IT WAS BEGUN A NUMBER OF YEARS AGO, AND SO THAT THERE ARE ALWAYS RESOURCES BEING ADDED SO THAT OUR FAMILIES CAN FIND WHAT THEY NEED EASILY THERE.

SO YOU SEE THE RESOURCES AND READING LIST AT THE RIGHT THERE AND YOU SEE SOME OF THE CATEGORIES THAT ARE LISTED.

THERE ARE CRISIS AND COUNSELING KIDS AND SCREENS, WHICH IS A BIG CONCERN THAT WE HEAR FROM OUR PARENTS THESE DAYS.

GET MOVING FOR ALL AGES, FOR ELEMENTARY AGED CHILDREN, TEENAGE CHILDREN, ONLINE CLASSES AND ADDICTION, DRUGS, ALCOHOL AND SMOKING.

SO IT'S REALLY MEANT TO RESPOND TO WHAT OUR PARENTS HAVE ASKED FOR OUR JENNIFER MCMILLAN, WHO I'M A POOR STAND IN FOR HER, AS YOU KNOW, YOU KNOW, THE WHIRLWIND OF ALL GOODNESS.

BUT SHE IS THE ONE WHO REALLY HAS MASTERMINDED MUCH OF THE WAYS IN WHICH WE ARE ABLE TO MEET OUR FAMILY'S NEEDS.

SHE LISTENS TO STUDENTS.

SHE LISTENS TO PARENTS.

AND IT'S RARE TO HAVE A PARENT, A PARENT WORKSHOP THAT ISN'T WELL ATTENDED AND WELL APPRECIATED, BUT ALSO WHERE PARENTS OPEN UP THE CONVERSATION ABOUT WHAT ELSE THEY NEED THAT CAN HELP US TRULY HONOR WHAT WE BELIEVE IS A CORE VALUE, WHICH IS THAT PARENTS ARE PARTNERS AND THAT WHEN WE WORK TOGETHER, WE PROVIDE THE RESOURCES, THE CARE, THE STABILITY THAT ALL OF OUR STUDENTS NEED.

SO I WENT BACK A BIT JUST TO SEE WHEN DID WE START OFFERING SOME OF THE WORKSHOPS THAT WE'VE HAD AND ALSO WHAT, ARE SOME OF THOSE WORKSHOPS? SO WHAT YOU CAN SEE IS THAT 2017-18 WAS THE FIRST YEAR THAT WE OFFERED WORKSHOPS.

AND WHAT I HAVE THERE ARE THEY ARE NON REPETITIVE BECAUSE SOME OF THE RESOURCES ARE LISTED IN MULTIPLE YEARS.

BUT JUST TO GIVE A SENSE OF THESE ARE THE DISTINCTLY DIFFERENT PRESENTATIONS THAT HAVE BEEN OFFERED.

SO FROM 8 IN 2017-18 TO A HIGH OF 11 AND 20 2021 AND SIX SO FAR THIS YEAR WITH MORE THAT ARE PLANNED.

THESE WERE ALSO SO WELL APPRECIATED AND RECEIVED BY PARENTS DURING COVID AS A WAY TO SUPPORT IN TIME WHAT WAS HAPPENING RIGHT THEN.

AND SO THAT'S BEEN ONE OF THE GREATEST THINGS ABOUT THIS PROGRAM IS THAT IT ALLOWS US TO BE RESPONSIVE IN THE MOMENT.

AS NEW NEEDS COME UP, WE'RE ABLE TO REACH OUT TO SEE WHAT EXPERTS EXIST IN OUR COMMUNITY OR BEYOND OUR COMMUNITY, TO BE ABLE TO BRING THE BEST

[01:20:05]

OF WHAT WE KNOW ABOUT RAISING AND SUPPORTING CHILDREN INTO OUR RELATIONSHIP WITH PARENTS.

SO SOME OF THE TITLES THAT ARE LISTED HERE ARE JUST, AGAIN, A FEW OF THOSE THAT WE'VE PROVIDED.

SO TEENS IN THEIR SCREENS.

THE ADOLESCENT BRAIN UNDERSTANDING TEEN ANXIETY, TEEN ANXIETY, ANXIETY COMES UP A LOT IN CAMAS.

AND SO WE'VE HAD MULTIPLE WORKSHOPS THAT ADDRESS ANXIETY, ALL ABOUT BOYS, WHAT MAKES BOYS TICK.

WE'VE HAD ANOTHER ONE THAT WAS CALLED I THINK IT'S UNTANGLED.

THAT WAS A BOOK STUDY ABOUT GIRLS HELPING WITH TRANSITIONS.

SO LOOKING AT TRANSITIONS AS A STUDENT MOVING FROM PRESCHOOL TO KINDERGARTEN, FIFTH TO SIXTH GRADE, EIGHTH TO NINTH GRADE, AND THEN ONCE PAST 12TH GRADE, WHAT HAPPENS THEN? ONE WAS CALLED YOU MATTER.

HELPING CHILDREN RECOGNIZE THE VALUE OF THEIR LIVES.

AS WE SEE CHILDREN WITH INCREASED STRESS AND MENTAL ILLNESS AND HOW, AGAIN TO SUPPORT THEM, THE BIRDS AND THE BEES.

FOR PARENTS OF MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS, AGAIN, ONE THAT WAS REQUESTED BY PARENTS.

HOW DO I TALK TO MY CHILD ABOUT PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT, PUBERTY AND RELATIONSHIPS, THE UNIQUE SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL DEVELOPMENT OF STUDENTS WHO ARE HIGHLY CAPABLE AND HELP? MY KID HAS ADHD BEST PARENTING TIPS.

AND AGAIN, THERE ARE SO MANY MORE, BUT IT GIVES YOU A RANGE OF THE VARIETY OF REQUESTS THAT WE HAVE FROM OUR PARENTS AND FAMILIES ABOUT THINGS THAT WE ALL WANT TO LEARN TOGETHER IN ORDER TO BEST SUPPORT OUR STUDENTS.

AND SO THIS MONTH, AS SOME OF US HAVE NOTED HERE, WE HAVE ALREADY HELD ONE SESSION THAT WAS ON CARING CARETAKER WORKSHOP FOR FAMILIES WITH LGBTQ TWO PLUS STUDENTS.

AND AS ERIKA YOU SPOKE TO ALREADY AND I HAD ALSO THE PRIVILEGE TO ATTEND THAT ONE.

THE RECEPTION FROM OUR PARENTS WHO WERE THERE WAS VERY POSITIVE IN FORMING A COMMUNITY IN ORDER TO BE ABLE TO SUPPORT THEIR STUDENTS.

AND THIS WAS ONE THAT HAS BEEN REQUESTED FOR A NUMBER OF YEARS.

SO THIS WAS THE FIRST THAT WE COULD BE ABLE TO OFFER THAT.

BUT IT'S ONE THAT PARENTS HAVE REQUESTED MULTIPLE TIMES.

AND THEN WHAT'S COMING UP IS READY FOR KINDERGARTEN.

SO JENNIFER MCMILLAN AND DIANE LOWRY ARE GOING TO LEAD THIS EVENT.

AND THIS IS ONE THAT WE TRY TO DO EVERY YEAR.

AND IT'S, AGAIN, ONE THAT OUR PARENTS REPORT THAT THEY LOVE, THAT THRESHOLD INTO KINDERGARTEN IS CAN BE SCARY FOR KIDS.

AND IT IS ALSO SCARY FOR PARENTS.

IT'S WHY SOMETIMES WE HAVE TISSUES AND DONUTS FOR PARENTS ON THE FIRST DAY OF KINDERGARTEN.

AND THERE ARE SO MANY WAYS, AGAIN, THAT WE CAN WORK TOGETHER TO SUPPORT OUR PARENTS.

SO THIS IS BOTH A REPORT TO YOU, BUT ALSO A WAY TO SAY TO OUR PUBLIC, PLEASE CONTINUE TO LET US KNOW WHAT YOU NEED SO THAT WE CAN DO OUR BEST TO BE ABLE TO PROVIDE THAT IN HONOR OF AND IN THE DEEP BELIEF THAT OUR STUDENTS FEEL THEY BELONG, OUR BEST SEEN AND BEST SERVED WHEN WE CAN WRAP AROUND THEM IN EVERY POSSIBLE WAY.

AND THEN DR.

ANZALONE HAS INCLUDED SOME PICTURES HERE FROM SOME OF THE RECENT SITE VISITS.

AND SO ON THE LEFT YOU SEE TRACEY.

AND THIS ONE WAS A DISCOVERY IN THE LEARNING EXPERIENCE WE WERE TALKING ABOUT, WHICH WAS A INTERDISCIPLINARY UNIT THAT WAS ON BUILDING A CAMERA.

SO STUDENTS WERE IN WOODSHOP USING TOOLS THERE.

THEY WERE ALSO IN CHEMISTRY, LEARNING ABOUT THE CHEMICALS THAT ARE USED TO DEVELOP PHOTOGRAPHS AND SO ON.

AND ON THE RIGHT HAND SIDE, YOU SEE TRACEY SON.

AND YEAH, HE AND THIS IS IN COREY MARSHALL'S CLASS.

SO AGAIN, TRACEY SPOKE SOME ABOUT THIS AND I HAD A CHANCE TO TALK TO COREY WHEN HE WAS HERE EARLIER THIS EVENING.

THIS IS A PARTNERSHIP WITH UW U-DUB AND THE BURKE MUSEUM AND THEY ARE RECEIVING BOXES OF AS JOHN SAID, BOXES OF DIRT.

I THINK THAT COREY EXPLAINED IT A DIFFERENT WAY, BUT NONETHELESS, IT'S A BOX AND IT HAS SOIL AND DIRT IN IT.

AND THEY'RE COMING FROM A PLACE CALLED HELL CREEK, MONTANA.

AND THIS IS WHERE THE BURKE MUSEUM HELPS IN ARCHEOLOGICAL DIGS, WHERE THERE ARE NOT THERE SIMPLY ARE NOT ENOUGH RESEARCHERS TO BE ABLE TO HELP EXCAVATE ALL THESE AREAS.

AND SO THE BOXES OF SOIL THAT STUDENTS RECEIVE ARE BOXES THAT NO ONE ELSE HAS SEEN.

AND SO THEY ARE DOING THE AUTHENTIC AND ORIGINAL RESEARCH AFTER THEY LEARN, AS HE SAID, THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A ROCK AND A FOSSIL, WHICH I THINK I WOULD NEED THAT LESSON TOO.

[01:25:05]

BUT THEY ARE ACTUALLY SEPARATING AND SIFTING THE MATERIALS AND IDENTIFYING THOSE.

AND YOU SEE NEXT TO THE STUDENT, THAT'S AN IDENTIFICATION SHEET TO HELP THAT STUDENT IDENTIFY WHAT IT IS THAT'S THAT MIGHT BE SHOWING UP IN THAT SAMPLE.

AND THEN THEY SEND THE SAMPLES IN THEIR REPORTS BACK TO THE BURKE MUSEUM.

SO IT BECOMES PART OF AN ORIGINAL RESEARCH PROJECT.

I'LL JUST SAY IT WAS SO INTERESTING TO SEE WHAT THE KIDS WERE FINDING AND IT LITERALLY LOOKED LIKE JUST A PILE OF DIRT UNTIL YOU PUT IT UNDER THAT MICROSCOPE TO SEE WHAT WAS IN THERE. AND ONE KID IN THE CLASS FOUND A SHELL LIKE A SEA SHELL.

AND IT WAS LIKE WE WERE LIKE, HOW DID A SEASHELL GET INTO DIRT IN MONTANA? RIGHT. AND BUT YOU COULDN'T TELL WHAT IT WAS UNTIL YOU PUT IT UNDER THAT MICROSCOPE.

SO IT WAS REALLY INTERESTING AND FUN TO BE THERE.

SO IT WAS COOL LEARNING THAT THEY HAVE THEIR BIOLOGY AND BIERI.

AND I WOULD SAY IT'S INDICATIVE OF THE KIND OF LEARNING WE'RE INCREASINGLY TRYING TO PROVIDE, WHICH IS THAT'S VERY RELEVANT, RIGHT? LIKE THIS IS A REAL PROJECT.

STUDENTS ARE APPLYING WHAT THEY'RE LEARNING AND THEY'RE ALSO HELPING OUT IN THE WORLD.

ON THE LEFT HERE YOU SEE COREY AND A STUDENT FROM DISCOVERY, AGAIN WORKING ON THE PINHOLE CAMERA.

AND PART OF WHAT THE STUDENT WAS EXPLAINING WAS THE NUMBER OF TIMES THAT THEY NEED TO ADJUST AND CALIBRATE BEFORE THESE CAMERAS ARE FINISHED.

AND THE STUDENT WAS EXPLAINING HOW.

THAT'S VERY MUCH LIKE THE REAL WORLD, EXCEPT THAT ALL OF THAT ADJUSTMENT IS DONE PRIOR TO THE POINT THAT WE AS CONSUMERS PURCHASE THE CAMERA.

SO THEY'RE LEARNING SO MUCH IN THIS PROCESS.

ON THE RIGHT HAND SIDE, WE GO FROM THE BIGS TO THE LITTLES AND THIS IS AT PRUNE HILL, AND THIS CLASS WAS DOING PART OF WHAT IS THE SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING AND IDENTIFYING THEIR MOOD.

SO A MOOD METER ACTIVITY AND THEN ENGAGING WHAT WE KNOW TO BE A BEST PRACTICE IN LEARNING, WHICH IS MOVEMENT.

AND SO THEY WERE DANCING, MOVING, CRAWLING AND ALL SORTS OF WAYS OF MOVING THOSE BODIES.

HEY. AND THEN THAT PREPARED THEM NEXT FOR A LESSON THAT YOU SEE ON THE LEFT WHERE THEY WERE FOCUSING ON LEARNING HOW TO WRITE, WHICH IS A FOCUS AREA AT PRUNE HILL.

AND SO EACH GRADE LEVEL IS CONSECUTIVELY AND PROGRESSIVELY BUILDING THOSE WRITING SKILLS THAT STUDENTS WILL NEED THROUGHOUT THEIR EDUCATION AND BEYOND. AND THEN ON THE RIGHT, WE WITH JEANNE MOSS, WHO I WILL MENTION IS AN INSTRUCTIONAL FACILITATOR WHO HAS BEEN BUILDING OUR ELEMENTARY ROBOTICS PROGRAM THAT ALLOW EVERY STUDENT IN SECOND AND FIFTH GRADE AND EXPERIENCE WITH ROBOTICS AND CODING.

AND THE INTENTION IS THAT EVERY STUDENT GETS THAT CHANCE TO UNDERSTAND WHAT ROBOTICS AND CODING IS LIKE IN CASE IT MIGHT BE SOMETHING THAT THEY ARE INTERESTED IN WHEN THEY GET TO MIDDLE SCHOOL TO STUDY EVEN FURTHER.

AND SO WE HAVE A COMPETITION EACH YEAR FOR ELEMENTARY AND MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS.

AND SO YOU SEE SOME OF THE PRACTICE HERE OF GETTING READY FOR THAT COMPETITION.

ONE OF THE THINGS DR.

ANZALONE SPOKE ABOUT WHEN HE WAS LETTING ME KNOW ABOUT THESE PICTURES IS JUST HOW WONDERFUL IT WAS TO SEE DISCOVERY STUDENTS COACHING AND SUPPORTING THE ELEMENTARY AND MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS.

AND SO IT'S A CROSS GRADE LEVEL EXPERIENCE AS WELL.

YOU SEE MORE EXAMPLES, MORE PHOTOS FROM THAT EXPERIENCE OF ROBOTICS THERE AS WELL.

I'M ALSO A CALL OUT TO OUR GOLF TEAMS. SO OUR GIRLS WHO TOOK THAT WERE CHAMPIONS IT BY DISTRICT AND OUR BOYS WHO ARE WERE THIRD PLACE AND I BELIEVE THEY ARE CURRENTLY AT THE STATE TOURNAMENT.

SO WE'LL HAVE THE RESULTS OF THAT VERY SOON AS WELL.

AND THANK YOU TO PARTNERS.

SO CAMAS ATHLETIC BOOSTERS HOSTED THEIR BLACK AND RED RENDEZVOUS THIS PAST WEEKEND.

IT WAS ALSO SPONSORED BY WESLEY FORD DEALERSHIP AND I BELIEVE IT WAS AT THE DEALERSHIP.

AND ONE OF THE THINGS THAT DR.

ANZALONE WAS TALKING ABOUT, AGAIN, IS JUST THE OPPORTUNITIES THAT WE HAVE FOR STUDENTS.

THE FASHION CLUB WAS CONNECTED WITH THIS AS WELL.

SO THE FASHION CLUB AT CAMAS HIGH SCHOOL CREATED MOOD BOARDS FOR DR.

ANZALONE AND HIS WIFE SARAH, TO HELP THEM CHOOSE THEIR OUTFITS FOR THE EVENT.

AND AS DR.

ANZALONE SAYS, SARAH, HIS WIFE, NEEDS NO HELP, BUT HE NEEDS A LOT OF HELP.

SO HE WAS ABLE TO PURCHASE OFF OF AMAZON FROM THE BOARD THAT STUDENTS HAD SUGGESTED AN OUTFIT THAT WOULD BE APPROPRIATE FOR THIS EVENT.

BUT JUST A HUGE SHOUT OUT TO OUR BOOSTERS WHO SUPPORT ATHLETICS IN CAMAS.

AND THEN ALSO, AS YOU HAVE NOTED, THE NEW MUSIC BOOSTERS WHO WILL BE DOING THE SAME TO PROVIDE SO MANY OPPORTUNITIES FOR OUR

[01:30:07]

STUDENTS. AND THEN FINALLY, ANOTHER WASA AWARD THAT WAS PRESENTED LAST FRIDAY AT THE ISD 112 TO OUR OWN DOUG QUINN AND IT IS A COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIP AWARD.

SO JUST RECOGNIZING DOUG'S ROLE NOT ONLY HERE AS A FORMER BOARD MEMBER, BUT ALSO WITH THE CITY OF CAMAS AND JUST THE VALUE IN THAT RELATIONSHIP THAT HE HAS BROUGHT AND CONTINUES TO BRING.

AND AS DR.

ANZALONE, THANK YOU.

ANY OTHER QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS FOR LISA? PUT HER ON THE SPOT.

OKAY. ALL RIGHT.

THANKS, LISA. APPRECIATE THAT.

[9.B. Monthly Budget Report]

NEXT IS OUR MONTHLY BUDGET REPORT WITH JASON MCEATHROM.

ALL RIGHT. GOOD EVENING.

THANK YOU, GAIL. SO I'M JUST GOING TO COME UP HERE.

PAST. ALL RIGHT.

SO FOR THE BUDGET STATUS REPORT, I WANT TO CATCH YOU UP WITH APRIL'S.

BUDGET REPORT.

BUT BEFORE I GET THERE, I WANT TO GIVE KIND OF AN UPDATE, JUST KIND OF A GENERAL.

BUSINESS UPDATE. SO WE DID START COLLECTIVE BARGAINING THIS PAST WEEK WITH OUR TEACHERS.

UM, WE WILL ALSO BE STARTING BARGAINING WITH THREE OTHER GROUPS AS OUR CLASSIFIED OUR SECRETARIES.

AS WELL AS OUR PRINCIPALS.

SO BUSY YEAR FOR THAT.

KEEP IN MIND, THIS WILL SHAPE BASICALLY 90% OF OUR COSTS FOR THE COMING YEARS.

SO VERY IMPORTANT BARGAINING.

REPLACEMENT LEVIES.

SO IN FEBRUARY 2024, WE'RE ANTICIPATING REPLACEMENT LEVIES.

AND WE'VE KIND OF STARTED SOME OF OUR PLANNING IN THIS DIRECTION.

KEEP IN MIND, LIKE OUR IPAD OR OUR OPERATIONS LEVY THAT GOES INTO OUR GENERAL FUND, THAT'S 15% OF OUR REVENUES.

SO IT'S AN IMPORTANT PIECE WHEN YOU LOOK AT LIKE OUR TECHNOLOGY LEVY OR CAPITAL LEVY, THAT'S 95% OF OUR INVESTMENT IS COVERED BY THOSE LEVY FUNDS.

AND SO THEY'RE REALLY IMPORTANT.

THESE ARE BUILT INTO THE FABRIC OF THE ORGANIZATION AND SO IMPORTANT THAT WE PLAN FOR THOSE EARLY AND OFTEN OVER THE COMING MONTHS.

SO, UM, AS I MENTIONED, IT'S WOVEN KIND OF INTO THE THESE ARE WOVEN INTO THE FABRIC.

IT PAYS FOR, YOU KNOW, PART OF OUR TEACHERS AND OUR FOOD SERVICE BUS DRIVERS, UM, DOWN TO THESE COMPUTERS AND WONDERFUL TECHNOLOGY THAT, YOU KNOW, OUR STUDENTS AND STAFF HAVE.

SO, UM, VERY IMPORTANT YEAR FOR US BETWEEN THE COLLECTIVE BARGAINING AND LEVY HERE.

UM, WE'VE.

I'M ALSO HAPPY TO REPORT THAT THE CAPITAL FACILITIES PLAN, THANKFULLY IS FINALLY APPROVED BY ALL THE JURISDICTIONS.

WE HAVE THREE CITIES AS WELL AS CLARK COUNTY THAT HAVE TO APPROVE OUR SIX YEAR CAPITAL FACILITIES PLAN.

AND BECAUSE OF COVID, IT'S ACTUALLY BEEN EIGHT YEARS SINCE WE'VE UPDATED THIS.

AND SO IT WAS TIME.

AND THIS PLAN SETS AND ESTABLISHES OUR IMPACT FEES THAT WE COLLECT FOR NEW DEVELOPMENT IN OUR COMMUNITY.

KEEP IN MIND THESE IMPACT FEES ARE IMPORTANT SOURCE TO HELP US OFFSET THE COSTS OF OF GROWTH IN OUR COMMUNITIES.

SO THESE MONIES CAN'T BE USED FOR OPERATIONAL, YOU KNOW, OPERATIONAL EXPENSES OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT, VERY CLEARLY EARMARKED FOR GROWTH.

SO OFTEN WE'RE DOING LAND ACQUISITION OR OCCASIONALLY A PORTABLE.

23-24 BUDGET.

NOT MUCH TO REPORT SINCE OUR SESSION.

SINCE THE SESSION ENDED, WE'VE BEEN IN THIS HOLDING PATTERN, WAITING FOR THE STATE TO ISSUE THE REVENUE MODEL AND BUDGETING MODELS.

WE'VE BEEN PROMISED THOSE IN THE NEXT TWO WEEKS, SO THAT'S WHEN THINGS START TO RAMP UP PRETTY FAST.

YOU KNOW, WE'RE EXECUTING OUR PLAN.

RIGHT. KIND OF A THREE PHASE PLAN.

THE SCHOOL BOARD INVESTMENT OF FUND BALANCE WAS KIND OF THAT FIRST PHASE.

SECOND PHASE WAS OUR BUDGET REDUCTIONS THIS PAST SPRING THAT WILL IMPACT THE NEXT FISCAL YEAR.

AND THEN WE'RE IN THIS MODE OF COST CONTAINMENT.

UM, AND, AND THAT STARTED IMMEDIATELY AND WE'LL WORK ITS WAY INTO THE FUTURE UNTIL WE GET ON A PATH THAT WE FEEL IS SUSTAINABLE.

[01:35:04]

SO. UM.

ALSO REMINDER OUR NEXT MEETING WILL HAVE A BUDGET WORKSHOP, I THINK, ON JUNE.

YEAH, JUNE 12TH.

SO. HEY, JASON, I HAVE A QUESTION REALLY QUICK ABOUT THAT.

ON JUNE 12TH, JUST SO THAT I CAN KIND OF HAVE A HEADS UP OR MAYBE YOU GUYS ARE WONDERING, TOO, WHAT I MEAN, WHAT EXACTLY WOULD BE PRESENTING TO US AT THAT POINT? ARE YOU THAT'S NOT THE DRAFT BUDGET WON'T BE PRESENTED UNTIL A REGULAR MEETING, CORRECT OR IS.

YEAH, WE ANTICIPATE.

SO THERE'S A STATUTORY DEADLINE WHERE WE HAVE TO HAVE OUR FIRST DRAFT OF A PRELIMINARY BUDGET THAT'S POSTED TO OUR WEBSITE BY JULY 10TH EVERY YEAR.

AND SO TYPICALLY THE LAST MEETING IN JUNE IS WHEN WE PRESENT THAT PRELIMINARY OR FIRST DRAFT.

THIS BUDGET WORKSHOP IS KIND OF IT'S A PRE MEETING TO THAT BUDGET.

UM, GIVES STAFF AN OPPORTUNITY TO PROVIDE THE SCHOOL BOARD WITH SOME INFORMATION AROUND WHAT DIRECTION WE THINK THINGS ARE GOING.

THE RESULTS OF THE LEGISLATIVE SESSION, WE HOPE TO PROVIDE MORE DETAIL ALONG THAT AND THEN THAT GIVES THAT, YOU KNOW, THE SCHOOL BOARD THAT OPPORTUNITY TO KIND OF.

YOU KNOW, PUSH THINGS IN A CERTAIN DIRECTION SO WE CAN REFLECT IN OUR BUDGET THE PRIORITIES OF THE BOARD, THE ORGANIZATION AND WHAT HAVE YOU.

SO THAT'S THE PURPOSE OF THE WORKSHOP.

IT'S NOT THE ONLY OPPORTUNITY.

YOU KNOW WE DON'T FINISH THE BUDGET UNTIL AUGUST, BUT THAT'S WHAT IT'S INTENDED FOR.

SO I THINK I DON'T KNOW IF THIS IS POSSIBLE.

I'M SORRY TO PUT YOU ON THE SPOT LIKE THIS, BUT WHEN WE WERE GOING THROUGH DEVELOPING OUR PHASE ONE, TWO, THREE PLAN, ONE OF THE TOOLS THAT I THINK WAS REALLY HELPFUL TO US WAS THE, WHAT WAS IT, THE FOUR YEAR BUDGET OUTLOOK WHERE WE COULD KIND OF PLAY WITH THE DIFFERENT LEVERS.

IS THERE A WAY THAT CAN BE UPDATED FOR THAT MEETING? THAT WE CAN YOU KNOW, NOW THAT BECAUSE WHAT THAT WAS BUILT, WHAT, TWO YEARS AGO OR AND NOW THAT WE'RE A LITTLE MORE INTO THE FUTURE WE HAVE A LITTLE MORE CERTAINTY.

I JUST IT HELPED ME TO VISUALIZE A LOT OF STUFF.

AND I THINK IT'S PROBABLY IMPORTANT TO WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT WE'RE STICKING THE LANDING AS BEST WE CAN AS WE GET CLOSER HERE.

YEAH, CERTAINLY WE WOULD, YOU KNOW, HAPPY TO PROVIDE AN UPDATE TO THAT.

OKAY. UM, I WILL SAY WITH AND I'LL REMIND FOLKS, OUR BARGAINING SETTING 90% OF OUR OPERATING COSTS GOING FORWARD IS GOING TO HAVE A MAJOR IMPACT WHEN YOU START LOOKING INTO THOSE OUT YEARS THAT IT'S WAY TOO EARLY TO PREDICT AN OUTCOME.

WE'VE HAD ONE BARGAINING SESSION WITH ONE GROUP, SO.

OKAY, VERY EARLY.

UM, AND SO, YOU KNOW, I WOULD WE WOULD CERTAINLY HAVE THAT CAVEAT, BUT THAT DOESN'T MEAN THAT WE SHOULDN'T BE LOOKING THAT FAR IN ADVANCE BECAUSE THERE'S THINGS THAT WE DO TODAY THAT IMPACT TOMORROW IN THE YEARS TO COME.

I JUST THINK IT WOULD HELP ME TO PROCESS A LOT OF THIS IF I CAN KNOW THAT EVEN IF THERE ARE STILL A LOT OF THINGS THAT WE DON'T KNOW, WHAT ARE SOME THINGS THAT SOME ASSUMPTIONS THAT WE MADE TWO YEARS AGO THAT NOW WE DO KNOW, EVEN IF WE DON'T KNOW EVERYTHING AND I KNOW WE'RE NOT GOING TO KNOW EVERYTHING, BUT THAT WOULD JUST HELP ME TO KIND OF PROCESS THROUGH. YOU BET. OKAY.

THANK YOU. SO LOOKING AT APRIL.

APRIL IS THAT MONTH WHERE THERE'S PROPERTY TAX COLLECTIONS THAT HIT THREE OF OUR FUNDS, GENERAL FUND CAPITAL PROJECTS AND DEBT SERVICE.

AND IT'S KIND OF, IF YOU WILL, KIND OF THAT HIGH WATER MARK FOR REVENUES, IF YOU WILL, AT LEAST THE LOCAL TAX REVENUES.

UM, AND THEN, YOU KNOW, LOOKING AT THE REST OF OUR REVENUES AND EXPENDITURES ARE PRETTY WELL LINING UP WITH FORECAST.

WE SEE THE ANNUAL DEFICIT STARTING TO KIND OF SHRINK DOWN A LITTLE BIT.

WE WERE PROJECTING ABOUT 5 MILLION SPEND SOME ADDITIONAL REVENUES THAT WE ANTICIPATE IN PART DUE TO THE LEGISLATURE.

SO THE LEGISLATURE IS.

BACKFILLING SOME OF THE LGA OR STATE FUNDING THAT WE USED TO RECEIVE.

AND THEY'RE PROVIDING THAT FUNDING THIS YEAR, WHICH AGAIN, AS WE'VE TALKED ABOUT BEFORE.

WE APPRECIATE IT. BUT IT'S VERY DIFFICULT WHEN IT COMES IN AT THE END OF THE FISCAL YEAR.

SO IT ENDS UP TYPICALLY BEING USED FOR FUTURE COSTS AND EXPENSES.

UM, TRANSPORTATION VEHICLE FUND.

I'M VERY PLEASED TO ANNOUNCE THAT WE RECEIVED ANOTHER BUS.

THIS IS IMPORTANT BECAUSE WE'VE BEEN TRYING TO REPLACE OUR FLEET ALONG THE WAY, AND WE'VE HAD SOME TROUBLES GETTING SOME OF OUR ORDERS FILLED TIMELY.

AND THIS IS PART OF THAT SUPPLY CHAIN ISSUE THAT, YOU KNOW, OBVIOUSLY WAS A GLOBAL IMPACT, BUT IT IMPACTED US HERE LOCALLY, MOST NOTABLY WITH OUR SCHOOL BUSSES.

SO, UM, I AM HAPPY, THOUGH, THAT WE'RE PAYING THE PRICES OF WHAT WE ORDERED AT 150,000 BECAUSE THAT SAME BUS IS OVER 200

[01:40:07]

GRAND TODAY. SO, UM, YOU KNOW, THAT'S ONE THING THAT THEY'RE HONORING THAT PRICE WHEN WE ORDERED THE BUS.

I THINK WE HAVE 2 MAYBE THREE OUTSTANDING ON THAT ORDER THAT I BELIEVE I'M TOLD WILL RECEIVE IN TIME FOR NEXT SCHOOL YEAR.

SO THAT'S GOOD.

SO OUR STUDENTS WILL BE RIDING AROUND IN A FEW MORE NEW BUSSES.

LOOKING AT THE PROJECTION AS OF APRIL, AS I MENTIONED, HERE'S KIND OF A GRAPHICAL DISPLAY OF OUR REVENUES ON THE LEFT, EXPENDITURES ON THE RIGHT.

YOU CAN SEE THE STATE IS A LARGE LARGEST PORTION OF OUR REVENUES, FEDERAL, VERY SMALL PORTION LOCAL.

KEEP IN MIND ABOUT 15% OF WHAT IS LOCAL IS OUR LEVY.

WE ALSO COLLECT MONIES LOCALLY FOR, YOU KNOW, MEALS THAT WE SELL OR FINES, FEES AND WHAT HAVE YOU ON THE EXPENDITURE SIDE.

VAST MAJORITY IS OUR PERSONNEL.

SO WHEN YOU ADD OUR BENEFITS AND OUR SALARY COSTS, THAT'S THE LION'S SHARE OF OUR COSTS THAT WE'RE LOOKING AT.

RIGHT? ABOUT 88% HERE.

THAT, AND THAT'S PRETTY TYPICAL FOR US.

SO WE'LL CONTINUE TO MONITOR AND I'M VERY INTERESTED TO SEE WHAT THE REAL OUTCOME IS OF THIS YEAR SESSION GOING AHEAD AND LOOKING AT REVENUES.

WE AS I MENTIONED, WE DID GET A LITTLE BUMP FROM THIS SESSION.

IN THE CURRENT YEAR, REVENUES ABOUT 568,000, WHICH CLOSED THAT GAP.

UH. AND THAT IS ABOUT IT FOR THIS EVENING.

ANY OTHER QUESTIONS? OKAY. THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

THANK YOU, JASON.

ALL RIGHT. MOVING ON TO EXCELLENCE IN ACADEMIC, SOCIAL AND LIFELONG LEARNING.

OUR FIRST AGENDA ITEM THERE, TEN A IS APPROVAL OF A NEW AP WORLD HISTORY CURRICULUM.

AND LISA, I'LL GO AHEAD AND TURN IT OVER TO YOU AGAIN.

THANK YOU. AND WE'RE ACTUALLY DOING THEM IN REVERSE ORDER THAT THEY ARE LISTED ON THE AGENDA.

[10.B. Placeholder - Second Step SEL Core Curriculum Adoption from K-5 t K-8]

SO IT WILL BE. THAT'S NO, THAT'S MY MISTAKE.

SO WE HAVE TWO CORE ADOPTIONS THAT WE'RE RECOMMENDING TO YOU THIS EVENING.

AND. THIS.

WE ALWAYS LIKE TO START WITH THE POLICY CONNECTION OF WHAT GUIDES US AS WE SELECT NEW RESOURCES AND MATERIALS.

SO THIS IS FROM BOARD POLICY AND PROCEDURE 2020.

IT'S THE ONLY ONE THAT I CAN REMEMBER BY ITS NUMBER BECAUSE, YOU KNOW, 2020, SO THAT'S GOOD.

BUT THERE ARE THIS PROCEDURE IS VERY LONG.

SO THIS IS JUST THREE BULLETS FROM IT THAT SPEAK TO CORE INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS.

SO FIRST, INITIALLY CORE MATERIALS ARE SELECTED BY CERTIFICATED STAFF AS THE SUPERINTENDENT OR DESIGNEE MAY ASSIGN.

AND SO FOR SMALL ADOPTIONS LIKE ONE YOU'LL HAVE TONIGHT, AP WORLD HISTORY.

WE HAVE TWO TEACHERS WHO TEACH THAT.

SO THEY ARE, IN FACT, THE SELECTION COMMITTEE FOR LARGER ADOPTIONS, SUCH AS THE MIDDLE SCHOOL ELA, ONE THAT WE'RE WORKING THROUGH RIGHT NOW, NOT FOR THIS EVENING.

WE MAKE SURE THAT THERE'S A REPRESENTATION ACROSS SCHOOLS GRADE LEVELS AND BOTH GENERAL EDUCATION AND SPECIAL EDUCATION, SPECIAL LISTS IN THAT.

THEN THE RECOMMENDATION OF CORE INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS HAPPENS AT THE INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS COMMITTEE AND THE INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS COMMITTEE, WHICH I ALSO SIT ON, RECEIVES THE RECOMMENDED DISTRICT MATERIAL PROPOSALS THROUGH THE STAFF.

SO STAFF COME AND PRESENT THAT AND THEN THE COMMITTEE ASKS QUESTIONS, DIGS INTO ANYTHING THAT NEEDS TO BE ANSWERED.

AND THEN AT THE POINT THAT IT'S VOTED ON AS A RECOMMENDATION, THAT'S WHEN IT COMES TO YOU.

SO SOMETIMES SOMETHING MIGHT HAPPEN WHERE THE COMMITTEE WANTS MORE INFORMATION.

IN OTHER CASES IT COMES STRAIGHT THROUGH BECAUSE EVERY DOT, EVERY I'S BEEN DOTTED AND T'S BEEN CROSSED AS WE GO.

AND THEN FINALLY WE BRING THOSE TO YOU FOR ADOPTION OF THOSE MATERIALS.

OKAY. SO THE FIRST ONE WE'RE GOING TO LOOK AT IS SECOND STEP SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING PROGRAM AT THE MIDDLE SCHOOL LEVEL.

AND AS A TIMELINE, LAST JUNE, YOU APPROVED THE SECOND STEP K-5 PROGRAM AS A CORE SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING CURRICULUM.

[01:45:01]

AND IN SEPTEMBER THROUGH APRIL, WE FIELD TESTED THE MIDDLE SCHOOL SECOND STEP PROGRAM.

AND THEN ON MAY 18TH, MIDDLE, THE MIDDLE SCHOOL COMMITTEE PRESENTED TO THE INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS COMMITTEE AND THE COMMITTEE RECOMMENDED THAT FOR ADOPTION, WHICH IS WHY WE'RE HERE TONIGHT WITH THIS AS AN ADOPTION.

SO AS A REMINDER ABOUT THE ELEMENTARY, WHAT YOU SEE HERE IS THE ELEMENTARY AND MIDDLE SCHOOL ARE FORMATTED VERY SIMILARLY. SO ONE OF THE ADVANTAGES AND WE ALWAYS TRY TO LOOK AT PROGRAMS THAT CAN STRETCH BEYOND A SINGLE LEVEL, BECAUSE THEN THE PROGRESSION OF LEARNING BUILDS FROM YEAR TO YEAR RATHER THAN HAVING SOMETHING COMPLETELY AND DISCRETELY DIFFERENT.

SO AT ELEMENTARY, THERE'S FOUR UNITS GROWTH MINDSET AND GOAL SETTING EMOTION MANAGEMENT.

I SHOULD READ THIS ONE BECAUSE IT'S CLOSER.

EMPATHY AND KINDNESS AND PROBLEM SOLVING.

SO AT AN ELEMENTARY LEVEL, THERE'S THE FOUR UNITS AND THERE ARE WEEKLY LESSONS.

AND THEN EACH OF THE LESSONS ALSO HAS ADDITIONAL ACTIVITIES THAT CAN BE USED TO SUPPORT THE LEARNING THROUGHOUT THE WEEK.

AND THE LESSONS ARE APPROXIMATELY 15 TO 30 MINUTES LONG.

SO AT MIDDLE SCHOOL, THE UNITS ARE MINDSETS AND GOALS, RECOGNIZING BULLYING AND HARASSMENT, THOUGHTS, EMOTIONS AND DECISIONS AND MANAGING RELATIONSHIPS AND SOCIAL CONFLICT.

SO YOU SEE SOME OF THE SAME CONCEPTS THAT ARE CONTINUING TO PROGRESS, BUT THEY'RE JUST GETTING TO A DEEPER LEVEL AS WE MOVE UP IN OUR GRADE LEVELS. AGAIN, THERE ARE WEEKLY LESSONS AND THESE ARE APPROXIMATELY 25 MINUTES LONG.

SO DURING THE FIELD TEST AND THIS WAS FIELD TESTED AT ALL THREE OF OUR MIDDLE SCHOOLS WITH SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT MODELS OF EACH.

AND SO WHAT THE PRINCIPALS, ASSOCIATE PRINCIPALS PRESENTED TO THE IMC WERE SOME OF THE THINGS THAT THEY LEARNED DURING THE FIELD TEST SO THAT YOU SEE THOSE ON THIS SCREEN AND THEN WHAT YOU'LL SEE ON THE NEXT ARE CHANGES THAT THEY'RE RECOMMENDING WITH THE ADOPTION AS WELL.

SO SOME OF THE THINGS THAT YOU NOTE HERE, IT COVERS TWO OF THE FIVE AREAS OF PERSONAL HEALTH, WHICH IS EMOTIONAL AND SOCIAL AND CONNECTS TO THE OTHER THREE AREAS OF OF PERSONAL HEALTH.

AND THEN YOU SEE SOME OF THE AREAS OF FOCUS LIKE HOW TO BE GENUINELY CARING AND HONEST, HOW TO APPROACH LIFE'S MANY OBSTACLES WITH A GROWTH MINDSET AND SO ON.

SOME OF THE THINGS THAT WERE NOTED AS BEING REALLY HELPFUL WAS THAT THE CURRICULUM WAS READY TO GO.

IT ADDRESSED IMPORTANT TOPICS, IT WAS TRANSFERABLE AND IT INITIATED GOOD CONVERSATION.

SO ONE OF THE REASONS THAT SECOND STEP WAS CHOSEN FOR ELEMENTARY ALSO WAS THAT THERE WAS MUCH LESS WORK THAT A TEACHER NEEDED TO DO TO GATHER MATERIALS TO FIGURE OUT WHAT THE LESSON WAS GOING TO BE ABOUT AND SO ON.

AND SO THAT SEEMS TO BE ONE OF THE THINGS THAT SECOND STEP REALLY PROVIDES IS THAT EASE OF HOW TO INSTRUCT IN THIS THAT ONE OF THE OTHER COMMENTS WAS THAT THEY'VE HEARD STUDENTS REFLECT ON THE LESSONS WHEN THEY'RE NAVIGATING RESTORATIVE JUSTICE AND BULLYING WITH ADMINISTRATORS AND COUNSELORS.

THIS IS THE PART WE REALLY LOOK FOR, WHICH IS THE TRANSFER OF LEARNING INTO PRACTICE.

SO WHEN YOU START TO HEAR THOSE LESSONS COMING INTO REAL LIFE SITUATIONS, YOU KNOW THAT IT'S STARTING TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE.

THE IT'S OPENED THE DOOR FOR TEACHERS TO START CHALLENGING CONVERSATIONS WITH STUDENTS ABOUT BULLYING AND OTHER MIDDLE SCHOOL TOPICS.

AND THEN ONE OF THE THINGS THEY NOTED WAS THAT SOME PARTS OF SOME OF THE LESSONS SEEMED TOO ELEMENTARY AND MOVED TOO SLOW, ESPECIALLY AT THE EIGHTH GRADE LEVEL. OKAY.

SO SOME OF THE CHANGES, THEY'RE LOOKING AT WAYS TO USE THE LESSONS MORE IN A COMMUNITY CIRCLE AND TO SUPPLEMENT AND ENHANCE THE LESSONS THAT CAN REALLY BRING THAT ENGAGEMENT.

BECAUSE WHAT WE KNOW AND I'VE ALWAYS SAID THIS IS A CURRICULUM DOES NOT CHANGE AN OUTCOME FOR A STUDENT.

A TEACHER CHANGES AN OUTCOME AND THE BEST WE DO IS PUT THE EXCELLENT RESOURCES IN THEIR HANDS SO THAT CAN HAPPEN.

SO WITH ANY CURRICULUM, WE KNOW THERE ARE GOING TO BE THOSE MOMENTS OF, OH, I DID IT THIS WAY THIS TIME, BUT I KNOW WHAT I DO THE NEXT TIME.

IS THIS MULTIPLE OF THE THREE SCHOOLS SAID THEY'D LOVE TO HAVE EXPERT TEACHERS BE ABLE TO HELP WITH THE PROFESSIONAL LEARNING IN THE SCHOOL. SO WE HAVE SOME TEACHERS WHO THEY LOVE THAT SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING.

THEY'RE VERY COMFORTABLE IN THAT CONTEXT.

SO HOW CAN WE LEAN ON THEIR EXPERTISE IN ALSO SUPPORTING COLLEAGUES? THEY'RE LOOKING AT TEACHING LESSONS IN OTHER CONTEXTS.

SO, FOR EXAMPLE, IN AT ODYSSEY MIDDLE SCHOOL, THE LESSONS WERE TAUGHT BY HEALTH TEACHERS IN IT, SKY AND LIBERTY.

THEY WERE TAUGHT IN ADVISORY.

SO JUST CONSIDERING WHERE DOES THIS IDEALLY HAPPEN THAT SUPPORTS THE LEARNING IN A WAY THAT STAFF ARE ALSO INFORMED ABOUT IT AND CAN USE THE

[01:50:08]

SAME STRATEGIES AND LANGUAGE AND SO ON THROUGH THE DAY.

THE ACTIVITIES ARE SOMETIMES NOT AS IN-DEPTH AND SO THAT WAS THE PART ABOUT THE EIGHTH GRADE PIECE.

SO WITH THE ADOPTION AND THE RECOMMENDATION WAS THAT SAME CONCERN DIDN'T SEEM TO BE THERE AT ODYSSEY.

AND SO WHAT WE'RE GOING TO DO IS GET THE EIGHTH GRADE TEAMS TOGETHER TO BE ABLE TO SHARE HOW DO WE MAKE THIS EVEN MORE ENGAGING.

AND IT INCREASED DEPTH FOR OUR EIGHTH GRADERS, ESPECIALLY GOING INTO NINTH GRADE WHEN WE KNOW THAT WE NEED THEM TO HAVE THOSE SKILLS. SO THE COST PROJECTION, A ONE YEAR LICENSE FOR OUR THREE MIDDLE SCHOOLS IS $6,317.31.

AND IT INCLUDES ALL OF THE LESSONS AND RESOURCES AND PROFESSIONAL LEARNING RESOURCES AND SUPPORT.

AND SO AGAIN, TONIGHT, WE'RE ASKING FOR YOUR ADOPTION OF THIS AS THE CORE CURRICULUM FOR OUR MIDDLE SCHOOL PROGRAMS. AND THIS IS FOR JUST FOR ONE YEAR.

IS THERE A REASON WHY IT'S NOT ON MULTI-YEAR? THERE IS. WELL, THEY DON'T YET.

THEY HAVE A ONE, THREE AND FIVE.

AND RIGHT NOW WE HAVE A THREE YEAR LICENSE FOR OUR ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS.

AND SO WE WANT TO GET THEM ON THE SAME SCHEDULE SO THAT WE REVIEW THEM AT THE SAME TIME IN THAT THREE YEAR TO ALSO SAY, IS THERE SOMETHING DIFFERENT, BETTER THAT WE WANT TO DO OR DO WE JUST GO FORWARD AND BUNDLE THEM ALL INTO ONE? AND THERE WAS NO BRAKE ON LIKE THE ONE, THREE AND FIVE WERE LIKE, OH, YOU MULTIPLIED BY THREE AND FIVE.

SO THERE WASN'T ANY DISCOUNT FROM THE MULTIPLE YEAR.

AND AGAIN, THESE ARE STANDARDS MANDATED BY THE STATE LEGISLATURE, CORRECT? THEY ARE THE STATE'S ADOPTED SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL LEARNING STANDARDS.

OKAY. ANY OTHER.

THEN I'LL MOVE TO APPROVE THE CORE CURRICULUM ADOPTION OF SECOND STEP COMMITTEE FOR CHILDREN AS A CORE MATERIAL FOR SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL LEARNING IN GRADES SIX THROUGH EIGHT FUNDING COMING OUT OF BASIC.

A SECOND. OKAY.

SO IT WAS MOVED BY ERIKA, SECONDED BY BAMNI.

ANY FURTHER DISCUSSION? ALL THOSE IN FAVOR? OPPOSED.

OKAY. MOTION CARRIES.

THERE. THANK YOU.

NOW WE'LL GO BACK TO THE AP.

[10.A. Approval of New AP World History Curriculum]

NOW WE WILL. OKAY. AP WORLD HISTORY MODERN IS THE NAME OF THE COURSE AND THE TEAM IS RECOMMENDING STRAYER AND NELSON WAYS OF THE WORLD.

AND I DO HAVE TO TELL YOU THAT I HAD TO CHANGE A COUPLE OF SLIDES BECAUSE IT GOES FROM AP WORLD HISTORY TO WHAP.

WORLD HISTORY. AP AND I'M LIKE, YEAH, WE CAN'T BE CALLING THINGS WHAP, SO WE'RE GOING TO HAVE TO GO.

AP WORLD HISTORY. SO HERE WE ARE.

OKAY, SO TIMELINE FOR THIS IS DURING THIS SCHOOL YEAR.

OUR AP WORLD HISTORY TEAM HAS REVIEWED DIFFERENT TEXTS AND PROGRAMS. THEY CAME TO THE INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS COMMITTEE ON APRIL 20TH AND THE INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS COMMITTEE REVIEWED FOR BOARD APPROVAL THAT RECOMMENDATION.

AND THAT IS WHY WE'RE HERE TONIGHT ON MAY 22ND.

OKAY. SO THESE ARE THE TEXTS THAT THEY REVIEWED AND THIS IS IN A SLIDE LATER.

BUT JUST TO KNOW, COLLEGE BOARD ACTUALLY SETS THE STANDARDS FOR THE CLASSES AND GIVES LISTS OF RECOMMENDED TEXTS.

SO ALL OF THESE TEXTS ARE RECOMMENDED.

AND SO THE TEAM LOOKED AT WHAT IS THE TEXT THAT IS GOING TO BEST SERVE THE STUDENTS HERE IN CAMAS.

AND OF THE THREE THEY ARE RECOMMENDING THE THIRD THAT'S LISTED THERE, STRAYER, NELSON, WAYS OF THE WORLD FOR THE AP WORLD HISTORY MODERN COURSE FIVE E.

OKAY. SO ON THIS SLIDE, AGAIN, JUST A REMINDER THAT THERE IS ALWAYS A PROCESS THAT WE GO THROUGH.

AND SO THIS ONE GIVES YOU THE INFORMATION TOO, ABOUT HOW RUBRICS ARE USED IN GUIDING THE SELECTION.

SO ONE OF THE TOOLS THAT'S USED IS OSP SCREENING FOR BIASED CONTENT AND INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS AND ALSO THE ALIGNMENT WITH OUR STANDARDS AND THE ALIGNMENT WITH BOARD POLICY AND PROCEDURE 2020 AND SO ON.

SO AS PART OF OUR AP PROCESS, THE TEAM IDENTIFIES CORE RESOURCES TO REVIEW.

THEY EVALUATE THOSE RESOURCES AND SCORE THEM THROUGH RUBRICS.

AND THEN WE ALSO ASK THAT THEY INCLUDE STUDENT VOICE IN THE SELECTION PROCESS.

SO THIS WAS DONE A FEW YEARS AGO FOR ANOTHER AP COURSE AND WE NEED TO DO THE STUDENT VOICE PART BECAUSE PART OF WHAT WE DID WAS THE ADULTS WERE LIKE, WELL, KIDS ARE USED TO TECHNOLOGY.

[01:55:03]

WE'LL JUST GET THE DIGITAL VERSION AND THEN WE BRING IT TO KIDS AND THEY'RE LIKE, NOPE, WE LIKE THE DIGITAL PART, BUT WE REALLY NEED TEXTS STILL FOR SOME OF THE READING THAT WE DO. SO THAT STUDENT VOICE PART IS REALLY IMPORTANT AND THEN CHOOSE THE CORE RESOURCE FOR RECOMMENDATION.

SO THIS IS THE RECOMMENDATION.

THE LAST FORMAL ADOPTION WAS 2004 AND SO THIS ONE WAS OUT OF DATE.

NORMALLY, AP LIKES THEIR TEXTS UPDATED EVERY TEN YEARS.

SO THE RECOMMENDATION IS FOR STRAYER AND NELSON WAYS OF THE WORLD AND SOME OF THE RATIONALE, IN ADDITION TO THE THINGS THAT YOU SAW, THE RUBRICS THAT WERE USED, THIS TEAM REALLY LOOKED AT ACCESSIBILITY.

SO ONE OF THE THINGS WE'VE TALKED ABOUT WITH AP CLASSES IS WHO'S IN OUR CLASSES AND WHO'S NOT IN OUR CLASSES AND HOW DO WE MAKE THEM MORE ACCESSIBLE FOR ALL.

SO REALLY LOOKING AT WHAT OUR ACCESSIBILITY FEATURES.

SO THIS ONE HAS AN ACCESSIBLE LEXILE, MEANING THAT QUANTITATIVELY IT IS NOT HARD TO DECODE.

IT'S HIGHLY READABLE.

IT ALSO HAS LOTS OF TOOLS CONNECTED TO THE DIGITAL PLATFORM LIKE VOICE TO TEXT, TEXT TO VOICE, TEXT TO VOICE SO THAT STUDENTS CAN CHOOSE TO LISTEN OR TO READ AND HAVE THAT REINFORCED AS WELL.

ANOTHER REASON WAS THAT IT WAS IT.

IT'S BEEN UPDATED AS MOST OF THE AP WORLD HISTORY TEXTS HAVE TO REPRESENT DIVERSE AND HISTORICAL VIEWPOINTS AND PARTICULARLY LOOKING AT UNDERREPRESENTED VOICES.

AND IT'S ALSO THE DOMINANT TEXT THAT'S USED BY AP WORLD HISTORY CLASSES THROUGHOUT THE THE US.

OKAY THIS IS NOT SO YOU CAN READ IT HERE BECAUSE IT'S REALLY HARD TO READ THAT SMALL WRITING.

BUT THIS IS THE RUBRIC, ONE OF THE RUBRICS THAT THE TEAM USED AS THEY WERE LOOKING AT THE THE DIFFERENT MATERIALS.

THIS ONE HAPPENS TO BE FOR STRAYER AND NELSON.

SO WHAT YOU SEE IS AN A RUBRIC OF 1 TO 4.

THE ALMOST ALL THE SCORES ARE FOURS, WHICH IS SURPASSES EXPECTATIONS FOR THIS CRITERIA WITH ONE THAT'S A THREE.

AND SOME OF THE THINGS THAT YOU SEE ON HERE ARE THAT THAT IT WILL BE APPROPRIATE FOR OUR MULTILINGUAL LEARNERS, THAT IT REPRESENTS DIVERSE VIEWPOINTS AND SO ON. AND SO THE COST FOR THIS PROGRAM, STUDENT TAX PLUS DIGITAL ACCESS AND TEACHER MATERIALS, IS $30,737.70, EXCLUDING TAX.

AND THAT BREAKS DOWN TO THEY HAVE 132, 150 STUDENTS IN THE SOPHOMORE LEVEL CLASS EACH YEAR.

AND SO IT BREAKS DOWN TO A COST OF ABOUT $20.50 PER STUDENT PER YEAR FOR 150 STUDENTS.

ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS.

OKAY. OTHERWISE, I'D ENTERTAIN A MOTION AND A SECOND.

I'LL MAKE THE MOTION TO APPROVE THE NEW AP WORLD HISTORY CURRICULUM, WAYS OF THE WORLD AS PRESENTED, AND THE BUDGET SOURCE IS BASIC ED.

I'LL SECOND IT. MOVE BY TRACEY.

SECONDED BY ERIKA.

ANY FURTHER DISCUSSION? ALL THOSE IN FAVOR? OPPOSED. MOTION CARRIES.

THANK YOU. THANK YOU.

ALL RIGHT. THAT MOVES US DOWN TO ITEM 11.

[11.A. Out of Field Teaching Assignments]

A UNDER OPEN AND EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION ARE OUT OF FIELD TEACHING ASSIGNMENTS.

I ASKED MARILYN JUST TO GIVE A QUICK LITTLE PUBLIC EXPLANATION OF WHAT THIS IS.

I KNOW IT'S A PRETTY PRO FORMA THING THAT WE DO EACH YEAR, BUT I THINK IT'S SOME PEOPLE LOOK AT IT AND GO, WHAT'S THAT MEAN? WE HAVEN'T TALKED ABOUT THIS FOR SEVERAL YEARS.

ACTUALLY, I THINK SO.

THERE'S A WHACKING PLACE THAT IS HAVE IT RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME.

HERE IT IS.

WHACK ONE 8282 110, WHICH SPEAKS TO CERTIFICATED ENDORSEMENTS AND WHICH ARE ACCEPTABLE BASED ON THE LAW.

AND THEN 28, A 405 TO 10 ALLOWS US TO ASSIGN TEACHERS TO ASSIGNMENTS FOR WHICH THEY'RE NOT ENDORSED.

NOW, THIS IS SOMETHING THAT WE DEFINITELY TRY TO AVOID.

EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE, THOUGH, WE HAVE THESE THINGS HAPPEN.

SOMETIMES IT'S BECAUSE A CLASS IS FORMED AND WE HAVE A TEACHER THAT'S AVAILABLE TO TEACH IT, AND SO WE PUT THEM THERE.

WE DON'T ALWAYS AS AN ADMINISTRATOR, I DIDN'T NECESSARILY ATTEND TO ENDORSEMENTS, TO BE HONEST.

AND NOW THAT I KNOW MORE ABOUT H.R.

I KNOW WE SHOULD REALLY ATTEND TO ENDORSEMENTS.

WE HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO REQUEST BOARD APPROVAL FOR THESE TYPES OF THINGS.

SO YOU SEE IN THE MEMO BEFORE YOU, ALLISON BENJAMIN, ONE OF OUR CENTRAL REGISTRAR, DID A FANTASTIC JOB OF GOING THROUGH THAT REPORT, WHICH IS MASSIVE.

EVERY SINGLE TEACHER IN OUR DISTRICT IS ON THE REPORT AND DETERMINING WHY PEOPLE WERE KICKING OUT AS BEING OUT OF ENDORSEMENT.

LAPTOP JUST DIED.

THAT IS SO UNFORTUNATE.

AND WHY? SO, FOR EXAMPLE, YOU'LL SEE FROM SOME OF OUR CHOICE SCHOOLS, I DON'T HAVE THAT MEMO IN FRONT OF ME ANYMORE.

[02:00:03]

SO WE MIGHT HAVE, FOR EXAMPLE, AT HAYES FREEDOM HIGH SCHOOL, WE MIGHT HAVE A STUDENT OR A TEACHER BECAUSE WE WANT TO OFFER SOME ELECTIVES THAT THE TEACHER MIGHT NOT BE ENDORSED FOR. WE GO AHEAD AND DO THAT AND THEN WE REQUEST YOUR APPROVAL TO DO THAT.

SO KIDS HAVE CHOICES.

THAT'S TYPICALLY WHAT IT IS.

SOMETIMES A PERSON MIGHT TEACH.

FOR EXAMPLE, AT OUR PBL CAMPUS, WE HAD A FITNESS TEACHER WHO WAS ENDORSED IN FITNESS FOR K-8, BUT ALSO TAUGHT TO DISCOVERY HIGH SCHOOL CLASSES.

THE STAFF IS SMALL.

SOMETIMES WE NEED TO DO THOSE THINGS.

SO THAT'S WHAT YOU SEE BEFORE YOU AND WE'RE JUST REQUESTING BOARD APPROVAL.

THANK YOU FOR THAT EXPLANATION.

YEAH, YOU CAN DEFINITELY SEE WHEN YOU LOOK AT THE MEMO, IT'S IN THE BUDGET OR IN THE AGENDA THAT IT'S PREDOMINANTLY ONE OFF SINGLETON CLASSES AT A HIGH SCHOOL.

SO ANYWAYS, THANK YOU FOR THAT EXPLANATION MARILYN I APPRECIATE IT.

WITH THAT I'D ENTERTAIN A MOTION AND A SECOND TO ACCEPT THIS RECOMMENDATION FOR OUT OF FIELD TEACHING ASSIGNMENTS.

I MOVE TO APPROVE THE OUT-OF-FIELD TEACHING ASSIGNMENTS AS SUBMITTED.

SECOND IT SO MOVED BY [INAUDIBLE], SECONDED BY ERIKA.

ANY FURTHER DISCUSSION? ALL THOSE IN FAVOR. OPPOSED.

MOTION CARRIES.

THANK YOU. MOVING RIGHT ALONG HERE.

[12. POLICY REVIEW - Second Reading and Adoption]

ITEM 12 POLICY REVIEW.

YOU CAN SEE POLICIES, PROPOSED POLICY CHANGES TO A THROUGH N ON YOUR AGENDA.

THIS IS SECOND READING OF THESE POLICIES.

SO YOU APPROVE FIRST READING AT THE LAST THE LAST BOARD MEETING IN APRIL.

SO THE SAME POLICIES ARE BROUGHT TO YOU AGAIN, IF THERE'S NO FURTHER DISCUSSION OR PROPOSED CHANGES TO THE POLICIES, THEN I'D ENTERTAIN A MOTION FOR SECOND READING TO APPROVE SECOND READING AND ADOPTION OF THE POLICIES LISTED.

I MOVE TO APPROVE THE POLICIES AS PRESENTED FOR SECOND READING AND ADOPTION.

SECOND. ALL RIGHT.

MOVE BY TRACEY.

SECONDED BY BOMANI.

ANY FURTHER DISCUSSION ON THAT? ALL THOSE IN FAVOR? OPPOSED? OKAY. THANK YOU. ALL RIGHT.

MOTION CARRIES. SO THOSE POLICIES ARE ADOPTED.

MOVING ALONG TO 13 A QUALITY FACILITIES AND RESOURCES.

[13.A. Board Resolution 22-06 - Surplus of Property]

WE DO HAVE A BOARD RESOLUTION FOR SURPLUS OF PROPERTY.

THIS THIS RESOLUTION WHICH YOU CAN FIND IN YOUR AGENDA, I THINK WE'VE ALL GONE OVER IT.

BUT JUST FOR THE FOLKS WATCHING HERE AND AT HOME, THIS IS JUST AN AGENDA, AN ITEM, A RESOLUTION TO SURPLUS.

A COUPLE OF CLASSROOMS HERE ON THE ZELLERBACH CAMPUS TO POTENTIALLY BE USED FOR THINGS OUTSIDE OF THE SCHOOL DAY.

SO I DON'T KNOW.

JASON, IS THERE ANYTHING WE NEED TO ANY CONTEXT? WE NEED TO PROVIDE ON THAT.

YEAH. THE PURPOSE OF THIS RESOLUTION IS REALLY JUST DICTATED BY STATE LAW.

SO OUR INTENT IS TO LEASE A COUPLE OF CLASSROOMS, MAYBE SOME COMMON SPACE TO 112 FOR SOME, YOU KNOW, EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMING AND SUPPORTS THAT.

THEY PROVIDE IT.

IT'LL HELP OUR STUDENTS AS WELL.

AND SO IT'S BUT IT'S WE'VE GONE THROUGH A PROCESS TO ENSURE THAT THIS WOULD NOT INTERFERE WITH ANY OF OUR EXISTING PROGRAMS THROUGH COMMUNITY.

ED AND SO IT'S ODD BECAUSE WE'RE SUCH A SMALL PORTION.

IT'S JUST PART OF THE WAY THE STATUTE IS STRUCTURED.

IN ORDER FOR US TO LEASE PART OF A BUILDING, WE HAVE TO GO THROUGH THIS PROCESS OF DECLARING IT SURPLUS.

AND AND THAT'S ONLY A FUNCTION THAT THE SCHOOL BOARD CAN DO.

AND THEN THE DIRECTION ESSENTIALLY IS THEN TO FOR STAFF TO GO AHEAD AND THEN LEASE THIS THESE CLASSROOMS WHEN THEY'RE NOT IN USE FOR OTHER PURPOSES.

SO IT'S VERY SPECIFIC, VERY NARROW RESOLUTION AND PURPOSE HERE.

THANK YOU. SO YEAH, SO FOR CLARITY, WE'RE JUST WE'RE NOT LEASING ANYTHING OUT.

WE'RE JUST SAYING WE HAVE THE SPACE.

SO I WOULD ENTERTAIN A MOTION TO APPROVE THIS RESOLUTION, WHICH IS 20 2 06.

I MOVE TO APPROVE BOARD RESOLUTION 20 2-06 SURPLUS AND LEASE OF PROPERTY.

I WILL SECOND THAT.

OKAY. MOVE BY ERIKA.

SECONDED BY TRACEY.

ANY FURTHER DISCUSSION? ALL THOSE IN FAVOR? OPPOSED MOTION CARRIES THEIR ITEM B BACK TO MY NOTES HERE.

[13.B. Approval of 2 Year License Renewal of Moby Max]

ITEM B IS A TWO YEAR RENEWAL OF MOBY MAX.

THIS IS A AS YOU CAN SEE, A VERY A VERY SMALL, A VERY SMALL APPROVAL HERE.

THE ONLY REASON THAT THIS IS IN FRONT OF US FOR AN EXISTING CURRICULUM WE ALREADY HAVE IS THAT IT'S A TWO YEAR LICENSE INSTEAD OF A ONE YEAR LICENSE.

AND SO BY POLICY, THE BOARD NEEDS TO APPROVE TWO YEARS.

[02:05:02]

BUT THIS, AGAIN, IS A CURRICULUM THAT WE'VE BEEN USING AT GRASS VALLEY FOR QUITE A WHILE NOW.

SO ENTERTAIN A MOTION IN A SECOND TO APPROVE THIS TWO YEAR LICENSE.

I MOVE TO APPROVE GRASS VALLEY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL'S RENEWAL FOR A TWO YEAR LICENSE OF THE PRACTICE SKILL BUILDING PROGRAM, MOBY MAX FOR A TOTAL OF $7,411.64. AND FUNDING FOR THIS LICENSE IS FROM GRASS VALLEY ELEMENTARY BUILDING BUDGET AND THE GRASS VALLEY PTA.

GREAT. I'LL SECOND THAT.

MOVE BY BOMANI, SECONDED BY TRACEY.

ANY FURTHER DISCUSSION ON THAT? ALL THOSE IN FAVOR. ALL RIGHT.

MOTION CARRIES. ITEM 13 C IS THE SKY MIDDLE SCHOOL GRASS VALLEY AND DOROTHY FOX ELEMENTARY SCHOOL PORTABLE

[13.C. Skyridge MS, Grass Valley and Dorothy Fox ES Portable Roof Replacement Project Final Acceptance]

ROOF REPLACEMENT PROJECT FINAL ACCEPTANCE.

WE'RE JUST SAYING IT'S ALL DONE.

AND THE WORK THE WORK IS COMPLETED.

WE CAN RELEASE THAT.

RETAINAGE. SO ANY COMMENTS? QUESTIONS? I MOVE TO ACCEPT THE SKYRIDGE MIDDLE SCHOOL GRASS VALLEY.

DOROTHY FOX ELEMENTARY SCHOOL'S ROOF REPLACEMENT PROJECT WITH GARLAND DBS INC AS COMPLETE.

OKAY. IT WAS MOVED BY ERIKA.

SHE DIDN'T HEAR. IT WAS SECONDED BY BOMANI.

THAT'S OKAY. ANY FURTHER DISCUSSION? ALL THOSE IN FAVOR? OPPOSED? ALL RIGHT. MOTION CARRIES THERE.

THAT BRINGS US TO THE END OF OUR REGULAR MEETING WITH DR.

[14. RECESS OF REGULAR MEETING]

ANZALONE BEING GONE TODAY.

KIND OF LAST SECOND. THERE WAS A COUPLE OF THINGS THAT GOT MISSED, SO I'M GOING TO ASK YOU GUYS IF IT'S OKAY IF WE CAN DO SOMETHING THAT'S A LITTLE OUT OF THE ORDINARY.

WE DO NEED TO AMEND OUR AGENDA FOR EXECUTIVE SESSION.

IT SAYS WE'RE GOING TO DISCUSS NEGOTIATIONS AND PROPERTY.

WE ALSO NEED TO DISCUSS PERSONNEL.

SO IF I COULD GET A MOTION AND A SECOND TO ADD PERSONNEL TO OUR EXECUTIVE SESSION, THAT WOULD BE GREAT.

I WILL MAKE THE MOTION TO ADD PERSONNEL TO OUR EXECUTIVE SESSION.

I'LL SECOND IT. OKAY.

MOVE BY TRACEY. SECOND BY ERIKA.

ALL THOSE IN FAVOR? OKAY. JUST MAKING SURE I'M CROSSING ALL MY T'S, DOTTING MY EYES.

THAT'S THE ONE I WANT. AND THANK YOU.

ALL RIGHT. SO WE WILL GO INTO EXECUTIVE EXECUTIVE SESSION TO DISCUSS NEGOTIATIONS, PROPERTY AND PERSONNEL.

[15. EXECUTIVE SESSION]

I'M GOING TO GIVE US ABOUT 40 ABOUT.

I'LL GO 30 MINUTES. 35 MINUTES SO THAT I'M BACK HERE.

LET'S JUST SAY I'LL BE BACK AT 8:15.

WE MAY TAKE ACTION.

AND SO I'LL BE BACK AT 8:15 TO EITHER TAKE THAT FINAL ACTION OR ADJOURN THE MEETING.

WE ARE IN RECESS.
