[1. School Board Workshop - 4:30 PM]
GOOD TO SEE YOU ALL.JOHN, I'LL HAND IT OVER TO YOU.
[A. Welcome Back Overview]
GOOD AFTERNOON, EVERYONE.AND SO I JUST WANT TO FIRST OF ALL, THANK YOU ALL, OF COURSE, FOR BEING HERE IN THIS HEAT.
EVEN I'M KIND OF LIKE FEELING THE HEAT.
SO I THINK I'M GETTING USED TO IT UP HERE.
WE'VE HAD JUST A COUPLE OF THINGS BEFORE WE GET STARTED.
WE'VE HAD JUST A WONDERFUL LAST TWO WEEKS HERE IN CAMAS AROUND HERE AT ZAC JUST BRINGING PRINCIPALS AND APS, DEANS OUR COORDINATORS, JUST OUR TEAM BACK TOGETHER CABINET JUST AWESOME TO SEE EVERYBODY.
BUT I WILL TELL YOU, AND THIS IS JUST MY PERSPECTIVE, THERE'S JUST A WONDERFUL VIBE IN THE AIR, I THINK JUST A FRESH START, YOU KNOW, COMING OFF OF A CHALLENGING YEAR AND JUST BRINGING EVERYBODY TOGETHER AROUND THE THEME OF HOPE AND BELONGING AND DOING A BOOK STUDY.
IT WAS SO NEAT TO SEE OUR CFO AND OUR FACILITIES, PEOPLE INVOLVED IN THIS BOOK STUDY AROUND JUST BUILDING A SENSE OF BELONGING IN OUR COMMUNITY WITH ADULTS AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, OUR KIDS, WHICH WILL THEN, I THINK, CONNECT VERY NICELY AND ALIGN TO THE LEARNING.
EACH TRAINING SEEMS TO BE BUILDING ON EACH ON ONE ANOTHER.
WE HAVE OUR NEW STAFF INDUCTION TOMORROW MORNING, SO I'M REALLY EXCITED TO SEE OUR NEW PEOPLE.
AND THEN OF COURSE, AARON PARMAN JOINING BACK TO THE TEAM.
SO WE KNOW WE HAVE A TOUGH WEEK AHEAD OF US.
WE HAVE CEA NEGOTIATIONS THE NEXT TWO DAYS PROBABLY INTO THE NIGHT.
SO THAT'S WHERE I'LL BE SPENDING MY BIRTHDAY, I THINK, ON WEDNESDAY.
BUT WE ARE GETTING CLOSER AND CLOSER EVERY DAY.
I KNOW THAT IF WE'RE STILL IN NEGOTIATIONS, THAT THAT COULD CHANGE THE TONE A LITTLE BIT.
BUT I THINK EITHER WAY, WE'RE GOING INTO THAT VERY HOPEFUL AND MAKING SURE THAT OUR MESSAGE IS NO MATTER HOW THINGS LAND, WE'RE EXCITED AND READY TO START SCHOOL ON THE 28TH AND HOPEFULLY TOGETHER WE CAN GET THROUGH THIS.
AND, YOU KNOW, JUST LIKE WE ALWAYS DO AND HAVE A WONDERFUL START TO THE SCHOOL YEAR.
SO JUST A LITTLE UPDATE ON SOME STUFF THAT'S GOING ON.
TRACEY? LET ME ASK ABOUT THAT WELCOME BACK.
YOU SAID IT WAS AT CAMAS HIGH SCHOOL.
AT WHAT TIME? I KNOW IN YEARS PAST WE'VE BEEN TO SOME OF US HAVE BEEN TO THAT BEFORE.
AND SO I JUST DIDN'T KNOW WHAT THE FORMAT WAS OR WHAT TIME IT WAS OR IF WE COULD GO WHAT TIME.
AND MAYBE THAT'S ON GAIL'S AGENDA.
NO, ACTUALLY, I CAN DO THAT REALLY QUICKLY.
I'D LIKE TO INTRODUCE ANY BOARD MEMBERS WHO ARE THERE SO I KNOW THAT COULD BE A TOUGH TIME OF DAY ON A MONDAY, BUT ANYONE WHO'S THERE, I'LL DEFINITELY MAKE SURE YOU ARE NOTICED AND WELCOMED.
THEN WE HAVE THE CHS CHOIR WILL PERFORM.
WE ALSO HAVE A GRADUATE FROM CAMAS HIGH SCHOOL.
AND THEN OUR KEYNOTE SPEAKER, WHO IS ACTUALLY JEN MCMILLAN, BROUGHT THIS SPEAKER TO US.
AND THEN WE'LL HAVE THE MARCHING BAND AND CHEERLEADERS AND SEND EVERYBODY OFF.
[00:05:08]
BUT REALLY, WE'RE GOING TO TRY TO STICK TO THAT THEME BUT MAKE IT VERY, VERY PERSONALIZED AND MAKE SURE THAT, YOU KNOW, REGARDLESS, WE ARE IN THIS TOGETHER AND WE'RE GOING TO GET THROUGH IT AND WE'LL YOU KNOW, WE'LL STILL HAVE A WEEK TO GO BEFORE SCHOOL STARTS.SO WE'LL SEE HOW THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS GO.
SO. MONDAY THE 21ST, 1:30 OVER AT CAMAS HIGH SCHOOL.
SO I WAS JUST I WAS JUST KIND OF BRINGING THE BOARD UP TO SPEED BEFORE WE GOT TO THE AGENDA ABOUT HOW AD COUNCIL, WHICH BY THE WAY, AD COUNCIL, WE, WE'RE CONVERTING THE NAME TO LEARNING LABS.
SO IT'S REALLY MORE OF A FOCUS I'M SORRY, LEADERSHIP LABS.
REALLY, REALLY CHANGING THE FOCUS A LITTLE BIT TO THE WORK AND TRYING TO KEEP SOME OF THE OPERATIONAL MANAGERIAL TOPICS TO WHAT WE NOW DO AS PRINCIPALS COUNCIL.
AND SO THAT WILL BE AND I THINK I'VE SHARED WITH THE BOARD IN THE PAST THAT WE'D LIKE TO LEAVE THAT TIME WITH OUR PRINCIPALS, MYSELF AND SELECT CABINET MEMBERS TO REALLY DIG INTO SOME MORE OF THE OPERATIONAL PIECES OF THE JOB.
BUT WE DON'T WANT TO LEAVE, YOU KNOW, PRINCIPALS WITH QUESTIONS EITHER.
SO HOPEFULLY BETWEEN THE MEETINGS THAT I HAVE WITH CAP, THE MEETINGS WITH PRINCIPALS COUNCIL AND THEN THE LEADERSHIP LABS, WE'LL HAVE THREE REALLY CLEAN, COMMUNICATIVE WAYS FOR BUILDINGS AND CENTRAL TO REALLY BE ALIGNED.
SO I'M REALLY EXCITED ABOUT THAT, WHICH THEN KIND OF LEADS US INTO THIS AFTERNOON.
I REALLY THINK YOU'LL SEE THAT TODAY'S WORKSHOP IS REALLY FOCUSED ON COMMUNICATION AND ONE OF OUR GOALS THIS YEAR PROACTIVE COMMUNICATION AND REALLY STREAMLINING SOME WAYS, ORGANIZING SOME SYSTEMS IN ORDER TO HAVE BETTER COMMUNICATION, NOT JUST FROM BOARD SUPERINTENDENT, BUT THAT PERMEATES THROUGHOUT THE DISTRICT AND THEN MOST IMPORTANTLY, TO THE KIDS AND THEIR FAMILIES.
SO I THINK I HOPE YOU LIKE WHAT YOU'LL SEE TODAY.
WE HAVE SOME GOOD LITTLE SYSTEMS IN PLACE.
SO THAT'S KIND OF THE THEME FOR THIS AFTERNOON.
THANKS, JOHN. SO, ALL RIGHT, ALONG HERE TO ITEM B, WHICH IS OUR COMMUNICATIONS ITEM.
[B. Communications]
AND WE'LL GET DOREEN IN HERE AND.AND AFTER A YEAR OF WORKING TOGETHER, I KNOW DOREEN IS ALSO EXCITED TO STREAMLINE SOME THINGS AND MAKE SURE THAT, YOU KNOW, WE'RE ALIGNED IN COMMUNICATION, SO I'LL KICK IT OFF TO DOREEN TO KIND OF GET THE BALL ROLLING AND THEN SEE WHAT KIND OF QUESTIONS AND FEEDBACK YOU MIGHT HAVE.
HELLO. SO GAIL IS THE PERSON WHO ORIGINALLY STARTED THIS SPREADSHEET, AND WE ARE HOPING THAT IT IS GOING TO BE LIKE THE GO TO PLACE WHEN WE ARE LOOKING FOR INFORMATION THAT WE MAYBE HAVE ALREADY RESPONDED TO OR NEED TO RESPOND.
AND THE FIRST ITEM THAT'S THERE IS JUST A PLACEHOLDER, BUT THE SECOND ONE.
NO. THE SECOND ONE IS IN RESPONSE TO AN EMAIL THAT WE RECEIVED FROM A TEACHER.
AND WHAT I LINKED THE RECOMMENDED RESPONSE.
SO I DID A DRAFT AND IF YOU SCROLL TO THE RIGHT.
AND I THINK IT'S IMPORTANT TO NOTE THAT WE'LL HAVE A WHO IS GOING TO RESPOND.
SOMETIMES ALL OF OUR LEGISLATORS ARE COPIED.
SO THAT WE'LL KNOW WHAT'S STILL OPEN AND PENDING.
SO IS THIS SOMETHING THAT WE CAN EDIT THEN TO.
AND IT WILL BE LINKED ON YOUR BOARD WEBSITE.
[00:10:02]
AND ARE THESE IN ANY IS THERE A DATE TO THEM OR THEY'RE JUST GOING TO BE PUT IN? THERE'S A THERE'S A DATE AT THE END AS THE VERY LAST SPACE.THE DATE OF THE FINAL RESPONSE.
WHEN WE GOT IT. SO THEN WE WOULD KNOW IF IT'S SITTING THERE FOR TEN DAYS BEFORE WE ASK.
ASK AND YOU SHALL RECEIVE. SO ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS? SO ONE THING. THANKS, DOREEN ONE OF THE THINGS THAT WE ARE HOPING TO DO IS, IS TO AVOID ANY CROSSOVER OR DUPLICATE RESPONSES.
SO DOREEN AND I SPOKE, AND IF YOU'RE COMFORTABLE WITH THIS, IF THE PATRON OR WHOEVER IT COMES TO ADDRESSES IT TO THE BOARD, THEN THE MOST LIKELY IT WOULD COME FROM THE BOARD PRESIDENT.
IF THE RESPONSE OF COREY OR THE BOARD WANTS ME TO FOLLOW UP I'LL DO THAT.
BUT IF I'M ADDRESSED ON IT, MY QUESTION WOULD BE IS, WOULD YOU LIKE WE CAN WORK TOGETHER ON THE RESPONSE, BUT THE RESPONSE WOULD COME FROM ME? OR DO YOU WANT IT TO COME FROM ME AND THE BOARD? SO, OKAY, GREAT.
SO PROCESS IS LIKE IF WE SEE AN EMAIL, DOES SOMEBODY PUT IT IN LIKE, WHO'S THE SOMEBODY? LIKE, DO WE NEED TO BE CHECKING AND GOING TO THAT SITE TO ENTER IT? LIKE IF AN EMAIL CAME JUST TO ME, I WOULD LOOK AT THAT AND I WOULD THINK I IMMEDIATELY GO UP, ENTER IT INTO THE SITE, AND THEN I WOULD SEE IF OTHER PEOPLE HAD RECEIVED IT AS WELL.
BUT THEN LIKE AN ALERT, LIKE, HEY, I ENTERED THIS INTO THE SITE, LIKE, WHAT ARE WE THINKING PROCESS WISE? I HONESTLY, I THINK A TEXT MESSAGE IS THE EASIEST FOR ME.
IT DOESN'T END UP IN THE BOTTOM OF A LONG EMAIL STRING.
YEAH, THAT'S A GOOD QUESTION. I THINK THAT IN GENERAL, MOST OF THOSE COMMUNICATIONS COME TO THE WHOLE SCHOOL BOARD, RIGHT? IT'S VERY FEW THAT ARE THE ONE OFFS.
BUT IF SO, I IMAGINE THAT THE ENTERED BY IS GOING TO BE LARGELY THE PRESIDENT AND THE SUPERINTENDENT AND THEN THAT WILL LET ME KNOW THAT I'M GOING TO START FOLLOWING UP WITH IT.
OKAY. AND CAN YOU TELL ME AGAIN IT'S GOING TO BE LINKED ON THIS PAGE, GAIL? BECAUSE I HAVE TROUBLE WITH THIS PAGE.
THIS IS OUR BOARD PAGE THAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT.
I WASN'T THERE WHEN WE STARTED THIS CONVERSATION.
SO OUR BOARD PAGE AND WHERE ARE WE GOING TO, TO FIND THIS THIS DOCUMENT? OH, SHE'S GOING TO.
BUT IT'LL BE UNDER PROGRESS MONITORING.
THAT'S COMING UP. [INAUDIBLE].
I'M JUST LEAVING IT ON ALL THE TIME.
DID WE SAY WE WERE GOING TO LEAVE IT ON ALL THE TIME? LET'S TRY IT AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS. SO DO IT.
ALL RIGHT. ANYTHING ELSE ON COMMUNICATIONS, GAIL?
[C. Board Follow-up/Action Items]
DID WE WANT TO GO INTO THE OTHER SPREADSHEET, WHICH DOES THAT MATCH UP NOW? SURE. OKAY. OH.SORRY. SO WHEN WE HAD THE BOARD PLANNING SESSION, THERE WERE A LOT OF NOTES THAT I TOOK AND I TRIED TO ORGANIZE THESE BY COLUMN A.
OKAY. SORRY ABOUT THAT. SOME OF THESE THINGS DID COME OUT OF BOARD BRIEFINGS.
THAT'S WHY THEY'RE TITLED THAT WAY IN BOARD.
AND I LISTED A COLUMN WHO'S IN CHARGE? THE DATE IT WAS ASSIGNED.
AND THEN WHERE WE ARE IN THE PROCESS AND THE DATE IT'S COMPLETED.
AND WE'LL JUST KEEP THIS RUNNING THROUGHOUT THE YEAR.
YOU'RE ALL YOU ALL HAVE ACCESS TO THIS.
AND THAT WILL ALSO BE LINKED ON OUR AND I'M GOING TO SHOW YOU THAT REAL QUICK SO THAT IT MAKES SENSE TO YOU WHILE YOU'RE THINKING ABOUT IT.
[00:15:01]
IT WAS IN THAT. IT WAS IN HERE.OKAY. FOR KIND OF TO DO THINGS.
ALL RIGHT. SO ON THE BOARD SITE.
HERE'S THE TOP. COME DOWN TO RESOURCES.
I HAVE COMMUNICATION TRACKING.
IS WHAT I HAD LABELED IT HERE AND THEN I WILL PUT THIS OTHER ONE IN THERE AS WELL.
BUT WHAT I WANT TO SHOW YOU IS HOW, YOU'RE GOING TO FIND THIS DOCUMENT.
AND I'LL LET YOU SEE MY SECRET AVENUES TO HOW TO GET TO ALL MY FILES HERE.
BECAUSE WHEN I TRY TO GET TO ANY OF THESE THROUGH.
IF I GO TO MY GOOGLE DRIVE, MY CAMAS GOOGLE DRIVE.
YES. I THINK IT HAS TO HAVE A SHARED.
DO WE HAVE A SHARED DRIVE NOW? NO. NO. YOU KNOW HOW TO GET.
BUT THIS IS THE START OF THE WEEKLY UPDATES AND UNDER RESOURCES, I'VE ADDED A SECTION THERE AND THE FIRST ONE WILL ALWAYS BE BOARD WEBSITE. AND YOU'LL BE GETTING THIS EVERY FRIDAY.
OKAY. AND OTHER THINGS LIKE I'VE DONE IN THE PAST, ACTION ITEMS THAT I'VE KEPT HERE.
DID I MISS THE SHORTCUT TO HOW TO GET TO THESE DOCUMENTS OR YOU HAVEN'T TOLD US YET.
IT'LL BE IN YOUR WEEKLY UPDATES EVERY WEEK.
BUT IF WE DON'T HAVE THAT WEEKLY UPDATE, HOW DO WE FIND THIS STUFF? I WILL RESHARE IT WITH YOU.
AND WHAT I WOULD DO IS SAVE THE LINK ON YOUR IN YOUR FAVORITES.
OKAY. SO IT'LL ALWAYS BE IN THE SHARED WITH ME.
SO THINKING IF WE HAD A SHARED GOOGLE FILE CALLED SCHOOL BOARD.
RIGHT? YEAH, BUT I HAVE MY DRIVE SHARE DRIVES AND THERE'S NOTHING IN THE SHARED DRIVE.
SO YOU CAN'T REALLY FIND WEBSITES FROM YOUR GOOGLE DRIVE.
SO WHEN YOU GET THE LINK TO THIS, THEN YOU JUST WOULD FAVORITE IT AND SAVE IT.
WHILE THEY'RE WORKING ON THAT, I'M ON OUR SCHOOL BOARD WEBSITE RIGHT NOW.
AND MINE LOOKS DIFFERENT THAN WHAT YOU WERE JUST SHOWING.
SO DID IT NOT GET PUBLISHED OR SOMETHING? NOT YET. OKAY.
OKAY. YEAH, I DIDN'T HAVE COMMUNICATIONS TRACKING WHEN I OPENED IT UP, SO.
ALL RIGHT. I WILL GET THAT SENT OUT TO YOU.
SO WHEN YOU SEE THE LINK THAT GIVES.
LIKE YOU WOULD ANY OTHER WEBSITE.
AND, SO I NEVER NEED TO GO TO MY GOOGLE DRIVE BECAUSE I CAN GET TO EVERYTHING FROM THERE.
IF YOU REFRESH, YOU CAN SEE IT NOW.
COREY IS FOLLOWING. THANK YOU.
YEP. WAIT, NO, I HAVE BOARD DIRECTORS FIRST, BUT THAT'S GOING TO CHANGE.
THE TITLE OF THAT'S GOING TO CHANGE.
I THINK MINE WAS ALREADY IN MY FAVORITES.
I DON'T HAVE THE PARENT LEADERSHIP GENERAL MEETING SCHEDULE LINKED YET.
I DON'T HAVE THAT DEVELOPED FROM THEM AND WE HAVE NOT SIGNED OFF ON A NEW SCHOOL BOARD PROTOCOL.
BUT I'VE CLEANED THIS UP A BIT.
SO WHAT'S ALL THIS STUFF ON THE RIGHT HAND SIDE? ALL THAT. STUFF LIKE THAT OVER MORE.
WHY DOES. WHY DO I HAVE TO SEE THAT? BECAUSE YOU DON'T SEE IT.
MINE IS. HOW DO YOU NO, SHE HASN'T.
HOW DO I MAKE IT? EDITING IT? I DON'T KNOW. WHAT IS THIS? CAN YOU DO THAT? I DON'T KNOW. OH, THAT'S JUST THE BAR THAT GOES UP.
I DON'T WANT TO EVER EDIT THIS THING.
I JUST WANT TO. WE DON'T WANT YOU TO EDIT.
WHO GAVE HER CONTROL? NO. OKAY, SO WHAT YOU NEED TO DO? NO. WHAT YOU NEED TO DO IS THERE IS A WAY YOU CAN HIT A BUTTON TO EDIT IT.
GO TO THE THE TOP RIGHT BUTTON.
THERE'S A DROPDOWN ARROW AND GO TO VIEW PUBLISH SITE.
IF YOU HIT THE PENCIL IN THE BOTTOM RIGHT.
I WANT TO SEE. OH THIS IS ALL I EVER.
THANK YOU. SOMETHING HAPPENED.
GREAT. SO, YEAH, SO COREY THAT WILL BE KIND OF AN ONGOING PROGRESS MONITORING.
IT'LL HELP KEEP ME ORGANIZED AS WELL.
BUT ALSO JUST FEEL FREE TO ADD AND, I'M EXCITED TO CLOSE SOME OF THOSE ITEMS BECAUSE HAVING SO MANY OF THOSE OPEN MAKES ME A LITTLE NERVOUS.
[00:20:09]
SO HOPEFULLY THOSE TWO SPREADSHEETS HELP AS WE, YOU KNOW, IMPROVE OUR COMMUNICATION.I DON'T IS IT NOT LINKED HERE YET? IS THAT WHAT THAT ONE MIGHT NOT BE? OKAY. YEAH, THAT ONE ISN'T IN YET.
I JUST WANT TO MAKE SURE I KNOW.
NO, THIS IS GOOD. THIS IS WHY WE NEED TO ALL BE IN ONE PLACE TO DO ALL OF THIS STUFF.
THIS IS GOOD. YEAH, YEAH, YEAH. AND I'M LIKE, I DON'T KNOW WHERE TO FIND IT.
GOOD THAT SO? SO, CONNIE, YOU'RE ON OUR WEBSITE RIGHT NOW.
RIGHT? THE VERY FIRST THING ON RESOURCES, IT SAYS BOARD DIRECTIVES.
SO IF YOU REFRESH, IT'LL, HAVE THAT.
UNDER RESOURCES BOARD DIRECTIVE.
THERE IT IS. YEAH. THINK IF I THINK ABOUT IT, I COULD JUST CHECK IT EVERY SO OFTEN.
YEAH. NOW, THAT'S SO EASY, RIGHT? YEAH. HE'S LIKE, NO.
EVERY FRIDAY I'M SORRY. AND I GOT TO BE HONEST WITH YOU, WHEN GAIL AND I WERE TALKING ABOUT THIS, ABOUT WHERE TO LINK THINGS, I TOLD HER TO USE THIS BECAUSE I CHECK IT ALL THE TIME. BECAUSE THIS IS ALWAYS LIKE THE LINK THAT WE GET WHEN IT'S COMING OUT TO LIKE A BOARD MEETING.
IT'S COMING OUT. SO THAT WAS I THOUGHT EVERYBODY WAS GOING THERE.
SO I'M, SORRY FOR ASSUMING THAT.
WELL I USE THE LINKS WHEN SHE SENDS THE WEEKLY UPDATE.
THAT'S WHAT I USE. BUT THEN I CAN NEVER FIND THEM AGAIN IF I USE THE WEEKLY UPDATES.
AND SO BECAUSE I'M LIKE, I DID WHAT I.
NOW, THERE'S TWO PLACES. I DELETED IT.
I JUST YEAH, I JUST KEEP THIS PAGE BOOKMARKED AND JUST CHECK IT PERIODICALLY.
AND I KNOW WE TALKED ABOUT USING BOARD DOCS FOR THIS TYPE OF INFORMATION, BUT WE ARE SO RESTRICTED IN BOARD DOCS THAT I WAS UNCOMFORTABLE DOING THAT. WE HAVE A LOT MORE LATITUDE WITH GOOGLE DOCS TO SHIFT THINGS, ADD THINGS, UPDATE THEM AS WE GO.
EXCELLENT. SO I DIDN'T MEAN TO SKIP AHEAD, BUT I THINK WAS THIS CONSIDERED C THEN GAIL.
I DIDN'T KNOW IF THERE WAS THERE ANYTHING ELSE ON ON THAT ITEM GAIL? OKAY. ARE THERE ANY OTHER QUESTIONS OR.
ANY SPECIFIC QUESTIONS AS FAR AS THE ACTION ITEMS. OR IS THERE. YEAH. OR ANY FEEDBACK THAT WE NEED TO THAT NEEDS TO BE ADJUSTED.
NO, I THINK I WANT TO PLAY WITH THIS FOR A LITTLE BIT BEFORE I HAVE ANY FEEDBACK OR ANYTHING, YOU KNOW? BUT THIS IS GREAT.
I JUST WANT TO PLAY WITH IT AND SEE.
OKAY. OKAY, WELL, THEN WE CAN MOVE ON TO ITEM D, THE PROGRESS, MONITORING AND CALENDARING.
[D. Progress Monitoring / Calendaring]
SO IN BOARD DOCS, YOU HAVE AVAILABLE BOTH THE SCHOOL BOARD PROGRESS MONITORING SCHEDULE, AND I ALSO ATTACHED A CALENDAR DESIGN WITH THE SAME INFORMATION.WHICH IS SOMETHING THAT YOU HAD ASKED AT THE PLANNING SESSION.
AND THAT'S IN BOARD DOCS, BUT NOT ON OUR CAMAS BOARD PAGE.
NOT UNTIL I UNDERSTAND WHICH ONE YOU WANT.
SO RIGHT NOW WE'RE GOING TO GET TO CHOOSE WHICH FORMAT YOU WANT.
THE FIRST ONE IS THE NORMAL ONE THAT WE'VE BEEN USING THE DOCUMENT.
THAT'S JUST IT'S THAT ONE RIGHT THERE.
IS THAT YOU GOT TO KEEP CLICKING ON THINGS TO SEE WHAT IS.
YEAH. AGAIN, I NEED TO BOOKMARK THIS ONE.
BUT SHE'S GOING TO PUT THAT ON OUR BOARD PAGE.
SO SHE DID A MOCK UP OF BOTH AND SHE'S SAYING, WHICH ONE, WHICH ONE DO YOU GUYS PREFER? BECAUSE WE DON'T WANT TO KEEP TWO SETS OF THE SAME.
FIRST ONE, I VOTE FOR THE FIRST ONE TOO.
AND I THINK AND I DON'T KNOW IF THIS IS THE SAME COMMENT THAT WE'RE TALKING ABOUT, BUT WHEN WE WERE WHEN PATTI WOOD WAS HERE AND SHE WAS SAYING, OH, WELL, WHEN THIS DATA GETS RELEASED, YOU KNOW, YOU GUYS CAN PUT THAT ON YOUR NEXT AGENDA.
IT WAS THAT KIND OF STUFF LIKE, THIS IS WHEN WE RECEIVE THIS, YOU KNOW, LIKE.
AND THAT'S ALL IN THIS DOCUMENT.
COUNT DAY IS OCTOBER 1ST FOR ENROLLMENT AND THAT KIND OF THING.
WHEN WE GET VITAL DATA, WHEN REPORTS COME IN WHEN STUFF IS ABLE FOR US TO ACCESS BECAUSE THAT MIGHT DRIVE WHERE WE WHERE AND WHEN WE PUT IT ON OUR AGENDA.
WE MIGHT NOT HAVE BEEN THERE AT THAT MOMENT.
THAT'S NOT ON THE PROGRESS MONITORING SCHEDULE.
WHAT'S ON THERE ARE JUST DATES THAT YOU HAVE TO BE SOMEWHERE.
SO MAYBE IT'S NOT PROGRESS MONITORING.
MAYBE IT'S JUST MAYBE WE NEED TO RENAME IT.
BUT IT WAS PROGRESS MONITORING.
[00:25:07]
I THINK.THIS IS, WHERE WE NEED TO BE WHEN.
YEAH, THAT'S JUST YOU WANT TO MOVE IT TO AN ACTUAL ACTION TO BEING AT A MEETING.
IT'S ANOTHER RESOURCE THAT YOU WANT.
IT'S DATA RESOURCES AND WHEN THEY COME UP LIKE WHEN DO WE GET, YOU KNOW, THE, STATE TESTING RESULTS WHEN YOU KNOW ANYTIME SOMETHING THAT IS GOING TO BE ON OUR DASHBOARD TO MONITOR INFORMATION COMES, YOU KNOW, HOW DO WE KNOW WHICH AGENDA TO PUT THAT ON? SO THIS IS RELEASED NOVEMBER 15TH EVERY YEAR.
WHICH IF YOU LOOK AT THE PROGRESS MONITORING SCHEDULE, YOU'LL SEE THAT I DO TRY TO PUT IN THERE.
OKAY. LIKE TODAY I LISTED ALL THE ITEMS THAT ARE COMING UP AND IN THE FUTURE, THINGS THAT ARE HIGHLIGHTED WE STILL NEED TO FLESH OUT BECAUSE DURING THE PLANNING SESSION YOU ALL SAID YOU'RE NOT SURE IF CONTINUOUS GROWTH IS STILL THE RIGHT DIRECTION.
SO THAT'S WHY I HAVE IT HIGHLIGHTED TO FLESH THAT OUT.
IN TERMS OF THE FORMAT ON HOW WE DO THAT.
RIGHT. BUT I HAVE THIS BUT IT'S NOT THE DATA RESOURCE THAT YOU'RE LOOKING FOR.
WHEN WE GET DATA AND IT IS SOMETHING THAT IS IN OUR IS SOMETHING THAT WE MONITOR THAT WILL DRIVE WHEN WE PUT IT, WHEN WE PUT IT ON OUR AGENDA. RIGHT.
WHEN DO WE REVIEW THE STATE TESTING RESULTS.
SO THAT'S SOMETHING THAT I'LL SHARE WITH YOU.
AND THEN WHAT WOULD BE HELPFUL MOST LIKELY IS THAT YOU SEE THE FULL RANGE OF THE DATA WE CAN BRING WITH SOME SUGGESTIONS ABOUT WHERE WOULD WE FOCUS THIS YEAR, WHICH LIKE STATE ASSESSMENT, IS ALWAYS GOING TO BE SOMETHING THAT YOU WANT TO HEAR ABOUT.
AND THEN DO WE FOCUS ON THE ELEMENTARY LITERACY DATA? DO WE CONTINUE TO BRING TO YOU THE PANORAMA DATA, LIKE WHICH ARE THOSE, THOSE HIGH LEVERAGE DATA POINTS THAT HELP YOU FEEL INFORMED ABOUT WHAT WE'RE DOING AND HOW IT'S CONNECTED TO WHAT WE'RE EXPECTING TO SEE IN ASSESSMENT RESULTS.
SO MAYBE. WHAT YOU'RE LOOKING MORE FOR, THAT'S WHAT I'M CURIOUS.
SO YOU'RE LOOKING MORE FOR JUST WHEN ARE THEY GOING TO HAPPEN THROUGHOUT THE YEAR? I GUESS SO, YEAH.
LIKE, WELL, YOU KNOW, WHEN THIS INFORMATION COMES IN AND THAT INFORMATION COMES IN.
SO THAT SO IN THEORY, THAT WOULD BE IN THIS DOCUMENT.
AND WHAT YOU'RE ASKING FOR IS THE SAME THING.
SO YOU'RE ASKING FOR THAT SAME SCOPE AND SEQUENCE THAT WOULD BE HERE.
YOU KNOW, DIGGING INTO A LITTLE MORE DEEPLY.
BECAUSE I DON'T NEED TO KNOW WHEN THE TESTING WINDOW IS, BUT I WANT TO KNOW.
WHEN WE'RE GOING TO BE DISCUSSING IT.
WE'RE GOING TO WHEN IT'S GOING TO BE PRESENTED TO US.
SO THAT'S WHY I'M THINKING IT'S ALL GOING TO BE IN THIS DOCUMENT.
SO I THINK WHAT THEN WE CAN DO IS JUST REVIEW THIS.
SO THEN WE KNOW AND, AND THINKING BACK, WE HAVE ALL THAT STUFF PROBABLY IN HERE.
YES. AND YOU DRIVE IT AND THAT'S FINE.
I JUST HAD TO THINK THROUGH THAT OUT LOUD.
NO, THIS IS WHY TODAY WE'RE DOING THIS.
THAT'S WHAT I'VE LEARNED TOO, IS THAT MY TIME BEING THE CHAIR TOO, IS THAT GAIL DOES HAVE THIS RUNNING AGENDA, LIKE THIS YEAR ROUND THING THAT WE KNOW WHAT'S COMING UP ON EACH MONTH. IT'S JUST NOW WE'RE GOING TO BE NOW WE'RE GOING TO BE ABLE TO SEE IT.
SO THE PROGRESS MONITORING SCHEDULE IS ON THE BOARD WEB PAGE AND IT'S RIGHT HERE TO THE RIGHT OF THE IT'S THIS TITLE WHICH I.
[00:30:06]
OKAY. AND I STILL THE NAME PROGRESS MONITORING SCHEDULE.IT'S WHAT WE'RE TALKING ABOUT.
WHEN IT'S WHAT'S HAPPENING WHEN, IT'S SO.
YEAH, IT'S PROGRESS MONITORING, BUT IT'S.
IT'S BASICALLY OUR BOARD CALENDAR.
YEAH. YOU WANT TO JUST CALL IT THAT? CALL IT. I MEAN, THE OTHER DOCUMENT THAT I SHOWED YOU PREVIOUSLY IS MORE OF A PROGRESS MONITORING, CORRECT? WHERE OUR PROJECTS THAT WE'RE KEEPING TABS ON, WHERE WE'RE AT, THAT IS MORE PROGRESS MONITORING.
THIS MORE. THIS IS MORE OF A CALENDAR.
THIS STARTED OUT AS PROGRESS MONITORING, BUT I THINK THE CALENDAR SCHOOL BOARD CALENDAR.
LESS CONFUSING. IT'S A LITTLE. YEAH.
OH, MY LIFE IS JUST A [INAUDIBLE] MINUTE.
[LAUGHTER] YEAH. BE ABLE TO FIND ALL THE DOCUMENTS WITHOUT ANY.
NOW WE JUST HAVE TO KEEP FOLLOWING THROUGH AND USING THESE, RIGHT? YEAH, THAT'S THE KEY. JUST GONE FROM FILING IN A CABINET TO COMPUTERS.
YES. WE HAD THAT SAME CONVERSATION WITH OUR CUMULATIVE TEAM TODAY.
WE'RE MOVING INTO THE 21ST CENTURY, SO WE'RE EXCITED.
ALL RIGHT. SO LETTER E, CAC RESEARCH TOPICS.
[E. CAC Research Topics]
SO THIS IS JUST A CHANCE FOR US TO KIND OF THROW SOME THINGS OUT THAT WE THINK MAYBE WE MIGHT WANT TO HAVE CAC DIVE INTO.AND I DON'T KNOW IF NECESSARILY I WAS THINKING ABOUT THIS, TOO.
I DON'T KNOW IF IT NECESSARILY NEEDS TO BE SOMETHING THAT THEY'RE WORKING ON THE ENTIRE YEAR.
RIGHT. THESE CAN BE THESE CAN BE SOME LIKE ONE OFF TOPICS AND THAT KIND OF STUFF.
SO YEAH, SO SO WE'RE PRETTY WIDE OPEN RIGHT NOW.
SO WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT OUR NEW PEOPLE COMING ON ALSO HAVE SOME SAY IN THAT.
SO WE DEFINITELY HAVE A STARTING POINT.
AND SO GAIL, IS IS THAT YOU OR IS LISA GOING TO GET THE BALL ROLLING ON THIS OR HOW DID WE WANT TO? ON THE BOARD DOCS.
GUESS WHAT? I WASN'T LOGGED IN.
CAN. SO JUST A FEW COMMENTS CONNECTED TO THIS.
SO EVERY YEAR THE THE CAC MEMBERS ARE SURVEYED.
THIS IS AWKWARD, ISN'T IT? I KNOW. I WAS THINKING, WHY DON'T YOU GUYS SIT OVER.
EVERY YEAR CAC MEMBERS ARE SURVEYED.
THERE YOU GO. TO FIND OUT THE TOPICS THAT ARE OF MOST INTEREST TO THEM IN LEARNING.
AND THEN AS A TEAM, WHAT WE DO, TOO, IS DETERMINE SOME OF THE PLACES WHERE WE REALLY NEED INPUT AND FEEDBACK IN ORDER TO HELP MOVE OUR WORK.
AND SO WHEN YOU LOOK AT THIS LIST THAT'S HERE, YOU SEE A PERCENTAGE AFTER EACH OF THE STATEMENTS, AND THE PERCENTAGE IS THE NUMBER OF CAC MEMBERS WHO SAID THEY WANTED TO BE ABLE TO LEARN MORE ABOUT THAT TOPIC.
AND SO ONE OF THE TOPICS, ONE OF THE TWO STRATEGIC AREAS.
SO WE HAVE ONE THAT'S CONNECTED TO EQUITABLE OUTCOMES FOR ALL LEARNERS, RIGHT? THAT'S THE MTSS.
AND THEN THE OTHER STRATEGIC PLAN AREA IS RESPONSIVE PATHWAYS, AND THAT'S THE ONE WHERE WE'RE TALKING ABOUT ALL OF THE THINGS WE CAN DO FOR STUDENTS AND WHAT DO WE NEED TO DO? SO WHERE DO WE PRIORITIZE WHEN WE HEAR MORE ARTS OR STEM, OR HOW DO WE ACTUALLY REVIEW THAT TO KNOW WHAT IS BEST FOR OUR STUDENTS RIGHT NOW? AND SO THERE WERE TWO OF THE THINGS THAT THAT CAC MEMBERS INDICATED INTEREST IN THAT THAT FALL DIRECTLY IN WITH THAT.
AND SO ONE OF THE THINGS WE WERE RECOMMENDING WAS THAT ONE OF THOSE AREAS IS THAT STRATEGIC PLAN, PRIORITY AREA, RESPONSIVE PATHWAYS AND REALLY ENGAGING OUR CAC MEMBERS AND HELPING US TO LEARN MORE, UNDERSTAND MORE ABOUT NOT JUST WHAT IT IS OUR STUDENTS NEED, BUT THE PROCESS BY WHICH WE NEED TO CONSIDER NEW OPPORTUNITIES FOR STUDENTS.
[00:35:03]
AND THE TWO THINGS THAT FELL UNDER THAT WERE THE CONTENT STANDARDS AND STATE ASSESSMENTS, RIGHT? LIKE EVERYTHING CONNECTS TO STANDARDS, WHETHER IT'S MORE ART OR MORE WHATEVER THOSE ARE MORE CTE, MORE TRADES.SO HOW IS IT THAT WE'RE OFFERING WITHIN OUR K 12 PATHWAYS THOSE THAT ARE FOR OUR STUDENTS WHO BELIEVE THEMSELVES ON A PATHWAY TO GO TO COLLEGE AND THOSE WHO BELIEVE THEMSELVES TO BE ON A PATHWAY TO A TRADE.
SO THAT'S WHY THE THE AREAS ARE SEPARATED OUT WHERE THE STRATEGIC PLAN PRIORITY AREAS IS AT THE TOP.
WHAT YOU SEE IN THE ASTERISK FOR RESPONSIVE PATHWAYS IS WHAT THE LANGUAGE THAT IS AROUND THAT DEVELOPING STRATEGIC GOAL AREA. SO EACH OF OUR STUDENTS HAS UNIQUE EXPERIENCES, TALENTS AND DREAMS GUIDED BY STUDENT VOICE.
SO PART OF OUR RECOMMENDATION WOULD BE THAT CAC BE A PARTNER IN HELPING US TO LEARN HOW TO DO THAT AND HOW TO DO IT ON A REGULAR BASIS.
SO HOW DO YOU ENVISION THIS LOOKING IN CAC? IS IT LIKE A MEETING WHERE YOU TEAR THE SCIENCE STANDARDS APART? NO, I THINK MORE WHAT IT'S AROUND IS LOOKING AT THE PATHWAYS THAT WE HAVE NOW AND HOW THEY ALIGN WITH HELPING STUDENTS TO MEET STANDARDS AND THEN WHAT ELSE IS BEING ASKED FOR AND WHAT ELSE ARE WE SEEING IN THE RESEARCH THAT COMES OUT OF THE CORPORATE WORLD TOO, ABOUT WHAT CAREERS DO WE NEED TO BE PREPARING STUDENTS FOR? SO I THINK IT WOULD BE A LOT AROUND THAT AND THAT ALIGNMENT TO THE STANDARDS THAT WE HAVE.
SO WHEN YOU SAY PATHWAYS, YOU'RE TALKING LIKE OUR GRADUATION PATHWAYS AND THEN TAKING THOSE BACK.
I'M JUST TRYING TO THINK SO IT WON'T JUST BE SECONDARY.
SO WHEN LIKE AN EXAMPLE WOULD BE YEARS AGO KNOWING THAT STEM CAREERS WERE SOME THAT OFFER SOME OF THE MOST EXPANSIVE OPPORTUNITIES FOR ALL OF OUR STUDENTS AND THAT SOME STUDENTS DIDN'T HAVE ACCESS TO THAT EXPERIENCE.
THAT WAS WHEN THE SECOND GRADE AND FIFTH GRADE ROBOTICS EXPERIENCES WERE PUT IN SO THAT EVERY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENT HAD AN EXPERIENCE WITH ROBOTICS THAT COULD HELP THEM DETERMINE WHEN THEY GOT TO MIDDLE SCHOOL, IF THEY WANTED TO CONTINUE OR GO DEEPER IN IT.
SOME OF OUR PATHWAYS START IN MIDDLE SCHOOL AND CONTINUE THROUGH HIGH SCHOOL.
BUT TO REALLY LOOK AT THAT IDEA OF NOT JUST A RANDOM OFFERING, RIGHT, BUT HOW ARE THESE CONNECTED TO PATHWAYS THAT HELP OUR STUDENTS CONNECT THAT PATH TO THEIR HOPE, THEIR GOAL FOR THEMSELVES? YEAH. OKAY.
AND THE OTHER THING I'D LIKE TO POINT OUT IS YOU SEE A PRETTY LARGE AMOUNT OF OUR COMMUNITY WHO ARE INTERESTED IN HELPING US AND SUPPORTING US, MARKETING OUR CHOICE SCHOOLS. SO KIND OF TO LISA'S POINT, THOSE PATHWAYS AND I WAS REALLY EXCITED ABOUT THIS BECAUSE I THINK OUR COMMUNITY SEES THAT THIS IS NOT JUST ONE PERSON OR ONE PRINCIPAL JOB OR SUPERINTENDENT OR CABINET.
THIS IS REALLY A CAMAS COMMUNITY AND REALLY A SOUTHWEST WASHINGTON EFFORT TO MAKE SURE THAT OUR SCHOOLS ARE NOT JUST MARKETED BUT ARE GETTING FILLED AND WITH STUDENTS WHO FIT THAT.
SO I'M WONDERING IF THAT'S A PROJECT THAT WE WANT TO TO LOOK AT TASKING OUR COMMUNITY WITH OR AT LEAST GOING BACK TO THEM AND SAYING THIS IS WHAT OUR BOARD WOULD RECOMMEND.
RIGHT. I LIKE THAT. AND IN THE MARKETING OF THE CHOICE SCHOOL IS REALLY WHAT I ENVISION IS LIKE A PICTURE OF THESE ARE ALL THE OPTIONS YOU HAVE IN CAMAS.
AND SO IT'S MARKETING ALL OF THE DIFFERENT OPTIONS.
ONE OF THOSE IS FOR HIGH SCHOOL.
ONE OF THOSE IS CAMAS HIGH SCHOOL, ONE IS DISCOVERY, ONE IS THE CCA.
AND THEN ONE IS HAYES FREEDOM.
[00:40:04]
YOU KNOW. ONE THING AND THEN WE, YOU KNOW, BLAST THAT OUT SO PEOPLE CAN LOOK AND SAY, OH, WHERE DOES MY STUDENT FIT? THIS LOOKS GOOD. SO YOU'RE THINKING CAC ACTUALLY HELP DEVELOP, FOR LACK OF A BETTER TERM, LIKE A MARKETING PLAN, THEN? YEAH, DIFFERENTIATE, YOU KNOW, DIG INTO, YOU KNOW, I DON'T KNOW, LEARNING WHAT ALL THOSE THINGS ARE AT EACH OF THOSE SCHOOLS AND PUTTING IT INTO LIKE A STUDENT'S INTEREST AND I DON'T KNOW, I GUESS MAYBE JUST STUDENT INTEREST.I DON'T KNOW IF STUDENT SKILLS PERSPECTIVE.
SO WHEN A KID IS THINKING, OH, WHAT DO I WANT TO DO FOR HIGH SCHOOL? WELL, HERE'S HOW THE SCHOOLS ARE DIFFERENT AND WHAT'S UNIQUE ABOUT THEM AND WHAT THEY HAVE TO OFFER SO THAT THEN THEY CAN MAKE INFORMED DECISIONS RATHER THAN JUST GO THIS SCHOOL.
IN GETTING ITS NAME. YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN? LIKE, THE REASON WE HAVE ALL THESE OPTIONS IS FOR DIFFERENT LEARNING STYLES AND DIFFERENT INTERESTS FOR KIDS.
AND SO THAT'S WHAT WE NEED TO MARKET, I FEEL LIKE.
BUT I DO BELIEVE THAT THAT IS THE CORE GROUP THAT NEEDS TO UNDERSTAND AND HAVE THE EDUCATION OF ALL THOSE OPTIONS TO BE ABLE TO HELP US. HOW WOULD YOU LIKE TO HEAR ABOUT THESE THINGS? HOW WOULD YOU HOW WOULD YOUR STUDENT BE ABLE TO RECEIVE THIS INFORMATION AND MAKE A VALUABLE CHOICE IN THEIR DIRECTION? SO I THINK IT'S SUPER IMPORTANT FOR THEM.
I REMEMBER MY TIME ON CAC AND BEING ABLE TO LEARN ABOUT DIFFERENT OPPORTUNITIES AT THE SECONDARY LEVEL WHEN I DIDN'T HAVE A SECONDARY STUDENT AND HOW VALUABLE IT WAS FOR ME TO HEAR SO THAT I COULD SHARE THAT WITH OTHER PEOPLE.
SO I THINK THAT'S THE VALUE IN THAT HOW THEY HELP US WITH MARKETING PER SE, I'M NOT SURE, BUT I THINK WE'LL BE ABLE TO GET A LOT OF VALUABLE FEEDBACK IN OUR COMMUNICATIONS, MAYBE AT A HIGH LEVEL OF HOW THEY FEEL THEIR FRIENDS, NEIGHBORS, THEIR OWN STUDENTS CAN RECEIVE THIS TYPE OF INFORMATION.
WHAT DID YOU NOT KNOW ABOUT BEFORE? AND WHAT ARE YOU WHAT DO YOU HEAR WHAT DO YOU KNOW ABOUT THAT? SO WHAT DO WE NEED TO CLARIFY OR ADD TO.
MIGHT BE GREAT LISTENING SESSIONS FOR PEOPLE.
MAYBE. MAYBE WE HAVE AN ESD MARKETING TYPE OF PERSON, NOT A COMMUNICATIONS PERSON, LIKE MORE OF A MARKETING PERSON TO HEAR IF THERE ARE KEY WORDS OR KEY STATEMENTS THAT THESE FAMILIES OR THESE CITIZENS SHARE WITH US.
ONCE WE GET TO THAT POINT, IT'LL BE FULL EDUCATION FOR THAT, RIGHT? BUT THAT'LL BE A LOT.
WE HAVE SO MANY GREAT OPTIONS.
LIKE AT ONE POINT I KNOW THE CAC DID THE RESEARCH ON AN IMMERSION PROGRAM IN CAMAS.
GREAT RESEARCH, GREAT RECOMMENDATION.
BUT WE WERE NOT IN A PLACE TO BE ABLE TO IMPLEMENT THAT AT THAT TIME.
WE HAVEN'T BEEN ABLE TO THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX LIKE THAT FOR A WHILE, TO SAY, HEY, WE'RE THINKING ABOUT THIS THING, WHY DON'T YOU GUYS DIG INTO IT A LITTLE BIT LIKE THEY DID LAST YEAR WITH THE BALANCE CALENDAR? I CAN'T THINK RIGHT OFF THE TOP OF MY HEAD OF A PROJECT LIKE THAT THAT IS STEWING IN THE BACK OF OUR MINDS.
SOMEHOW WE NEED TO START GETTING SOME MORE CITIZEN VOICE ON THAT.
BUT. AND YES, AND I MEAN, IT MIGHT BE THEM AND OUR FACILITIES GROUP THAT IS SOLELY FOCUSED ON THAT.
AND MAYBE WE LET THE FACILITIES GROUP BRING IT TO CAC.
RATHER THAN BECAUSE OF THE AMOUNT OF INFORMATION THAT THE FACILITIES GROUP WILL NEED TO KNOW ABOUT, YOU KNOW, I JUST FOR ME PERSONALLY, I WANT TO KEEP THAT PROJECT.
I WANT TO KEEP THAT AT THE FOREFRONT OF A LOT OF THINGS THAT WE DO BECAUSE I THINK WE NEED TO HAVE A CLEAR VISION WITH THAT SOONER RATHER THAN LATER. SO ONE OF THE THINGS COREY THAT CAME OUT OF LAST YEAR CAC WAS, IS THE FACT THAT NOT ALL MEMBERS MAY HAVE HAD A THE BALANCED CALENDAR AT THE TOP OF THEIR PRIORITY LIST.
[00:45:10]
CERTAIN MONTHS BECAUSE THEY WEREN'T AS INTERESTED.SO I LIKE THE IDEA OF POTENTIALLY HAVING A COUPLE PROJECTS WHERE OUR CAC CAN BREAK UP INTO GROUPS AND THEN COME BACK TOGETHER OR HOWEVER THEY WANT TO FORMAT THAT. SO I WOULDN'T BE OPPOSED TO I THINK I THINK TO LISA'S POINT THOUGH, IS HAVING THINGS CONSISTENTLY ALIGNED TO OUR STRATEGIC PLAN IS IMPORTANT, BUT ALL OF THAT DOES. I THINK.
SO I'M EVEN I'M EVEN THINKING ALONG.
I MEAN, YOU KNOW, THIS MIGHT BE TAKING IT TO THE EXTREME A LITTLE BIT.
BUT EVEN WITH, YOU KNOW, WHEN WE LOOK AT OUR PATHWAYS AND WE LOOK AT THINGS THAT WE OFFER, THINGS THAT WE COULD OFFER, ALL ROADS COULD LEAD TO THE UL CAMPUS THAT WAY TO HELP US THINK LIKE, OKAY, WELL, IS THIS SOMETHING THAT WE COULD WE COULD UTILIZE THAT, YOU KNOW, THE FACILITIES THERE OR THAT PROPERTY FOR JUST.
I STEPPED OUT FOR A FEW MINUTES, BUT.
BUT I DO LIKE THAT IDEA OF THEM NOT HAVING TO HAVE ONE TOPIC THE WHOLE YEAR BECAUSE IT KIND OF MAKES I MEAN, THERE COULD BE ONE OVERARCHING TOPIC THAT THEY TALK ABOUT A LOT, BUT I LOVE THEM LOOKING AT THE CAMPUS AND MAYBE ONE DAY THEY TOUR THE CAMPUS, RIGHT? OR MAYBE ONE DAY THEY TOUR OUR CTE PROGRAMS AND SEE ALL THE STUFF THAT'S HAPPENING IN DIFFERENT SCHOOLS.
IF WE'RE THINKING ABOUT HOW CAN WE INCORPORATE THAT THERE, WHAT HAVE YOU? WELL THAT. THERE'S LOTS OF THINGS, LIKE THINGS WE GIVE THEM ACCESS TO THAT WOULD MAKE IT VALUABLE FOR THEM TO SHOW UP AND BE THERE.
I MEAN, THEY WOULD MISS A MEETING, BUT IF IT WAS LIKE, HEY, WE'RE GOING TO TOUR UL TODAY.
AND THESE ARE, YOU KNOW, I DON'T KNOW, JUST AND THAT'S WHY I'M LIKE YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT LIKE HAVING AN OVERARCHING I COULD VERY WELL SEE THAT THAT STRATEGIC PLAN PRIORITY AREA THAT IS OUR OVERARCHING THING AND THAT WOULD FIT IN THERE.
I WAS LITERALLY WRITING DOWN OVERARCHING THEME BEING PATHWAYS HERE.
SO THAT'S WHAT HAPPENS AFTER A YEAR BECAUSE THE CITIZENS ADVISORY COMMITTEE IS FORMED TO ADVISE, YOU KNOW, GATHER INFORMATION AND ADVISE THE BOARD ON BIG DECISIONS WE NEED TO MAKE, RIGHT? AND SO IF WE DON'T HAVE A, YOU KNOW, SOMETHING BURNING, WE DON'T HAVE TO MAKE STUFF UP.
SO THAT WHEN SOMETHING COMES ALONG THEY'RE MORE VERSED IN THAT.
BUT I LIKE YOU KNOW, SO WE NEED TO FIGURE OUT UL AND THERE COULD BE OTHER THINGS COMING UP.
THEY COULD STILL CONTINUE A LITTLE BIT ON THE BALANCED CALENDAR.
WHAT DOES IMPLEMENTATION LOOK LIKE? AND YOU KNOW, WE HAVEN'T SURVEYED THE COMMUNITY YET.
AND I THINK THERE'S LOTS OF LITTLE PROJECTS THAT WE COULD DO WITH THAT OVERARCHING.
WHAT WE'RE GOING TO NEED IS SOME PUBLIC INPUT ON OUR PLANS FOR THAT CAMPUS.
AND THEN IN BETWEEN TIMES, WE GO INTO LEARNING MODE.
MY TIME ON CAC IT WAS AND WE DID THE REDISTRICTING OF THE BOUNDARY.
THAT WAS INTENSE, BUT WE DIDN'T DO THAT EVERY MEETING A FULL YEAR AND THAT'S WHERE WE DID PEPPER IT IN WITH EDUCATION ABOUT DIFFERENT PROGRAMS OR DIFFERENT OPPORTUNITIES FOR STUDENTS.
BECAUSE I DO, I DON'T WANT IT ALL TO BE ADVISING.
I WANT THEM TO ALSO GET A GREAT SENSE OF A FOUNDATION OF ALL THE THINGS THAT THEY DON'T KNOW ABOUT, MERELY JUST THROUGH THEIR OWN EXPERIENCE, THROUGH THEIR STUDENT.
HOW ABOUT JUST SOME INPUT OR JUST SOME? THAT WAS ACTUALLY SOMETHING I WAS GOING TO ASK BECAUSE I KNOW IN MY PRE BOARD TIME, I DIDN'T SIT ON CITIZENS ADVISORY COMMITTEE, BUT I KNOW THAT A FEW OF YOU HAVE.
AND SO LIKE WHAT WERE SOME OF FOR YOU AS A CITIZEN ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEMBER? WHAT WERE THE THINGS THAT YOU FELT THAT YOU GUYS TACKLED THAT YOU FELT WAS THE MOST WORTHWHILE OR THAT STILL? I DON'T WANT TO SAY IT STILL STICKS.
I'LL NEVER FORGET WHEN CHIEF LACKEY CAME AND OUR HEAD OF OPERATIONS AT THAT TIME CAME AND THEY SHOWED US MAPS AND TALKED ABOUT AND I WALKED OUT OF THERE GOING, ALL RIGHT, OKAY, I FEEL SECURE ABOUT LIKE, I GET IT.
I UNDERSTAND NOW WHAT WOULD BE HAPPENING.
AND I'LL TELL YOU, I THINK THINGS HAVE CHANGED SINCE THAT EDUCATION AND THEN SITTING HERE AND GETTING AN ALERT WHERE WE GOT TO WITNESS IT, LIKE THERE'S SO MUCH THAT HAS CHANGED. I THINK A REFRESHER ON THAT.
I'LL NEVER FORGET LEARNING ABOUT SUPPORT FOR A DRUG AND ALCOHOL FOR OUR SECONDARY STUDENTS.
[00:50:05]
HEARING ABOUT THAT WAS VALUABLE TO ME, KNOWING THAT WE HAVE THOSE RESOURCES FOR FAMILIES AND STUDENTS.SCHEDULE FLIP. YEAH, THAT WAS INTENSE.
YEAH. SO IT'S DEFINITELY LIKE A PLACE TO DO A LOT OF LEARNING AND RESEARCHING AND COMING UP WITH PLANS LIKE ESPECIALLY WITH THAT VARIOUS SCHOOL OPTIONS LIKE, YOU KNOW, THEY COULD DO A LOT OF RESEARCH WITH ELEMENTARY AND MIDDLE AND I MEAN FROM AS A PARENT BACK IN THE ELEMENTARY DAY, I WAS LIKE, YOU JUST FIGURED YOU JUST WENT FROM THIS SCHOOL TO THAT SCHOOL BECAUSE THAT'S HOW THE BOUNDARY WAS.
LIKE THERE WAS NO THINKING OUTSIDE OF THAT.
AND THAT'S NOT I MEAN, WE HAVE OPTIONS NOW.
AND SO I DON'T KNOW IF EVERYBODY'S EDUCATED ON WHAT THOSE OPTIONS ARE.
WE ALSO WERE JUST RECENTLY LOOKING AT ALL OF THE CAPACITY NUMBERS AND LOOKING AT WE HAVE CAPACITY IN OUR DISTRICT, BUT IT'S NOT ALLOCATED. IN A WAY, SOME SCHOOLS ARE FULL AND SOME SCHOOLS HAVE MORE ROOM.
AND WE WERE LIKE DREADING WELL THAT LOOKS LIKE A BOUNDARY CHANGE SOMETIME IN THE FUTURE.
AND SO WHENEVER THAT IS, AGAIN, CAC IS ALWAYS VERY VALUABLE FOR.
I ALSO LOOK AT CAC IS LIKE TENTACLES THAT GO OUT INTO THE COMMUNITY, RIGHT? BECAUSE IT'S LIKE WE HAVE SO MUCH INFORMATION THAT GETS OUT THERE AND MISINFORMATION AND LIKE SO SOMETIMES CAC IS USED JUST FOR THAT.
LIKE LET'S TALK ABOUT CAPACITY TODAY BECAUSE THE WAY WE HAVE CAC STRUCTURED IS LIKE PEOPLE FROM DIFFERENT AREAS AND DISTRICTS, RIGHT? SO YOU SHOULD HAVE LIKE SOME ELEMENTARY AND SOME FROM ALL OVER.
RIGHT. BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT HAPPENS.
AND SO WE HAVE TO MAKE SURE THAT WE'RE GIVING THEM INFORMATION THAT'S LIKE HELPFUL FOR THEM.
AND SO I'M THINKING, AS I HAVE AN ENTERING SENIOR THIS YEAR, THAT IF I WERE TO BE A CAC MEMBER AND RECEIVE ALL THIS INFORMATION ABOUT ALL THESE DIFFERENT OPTIONS AT THE SECONDARY LEVEL, I THINK A PREEMPTIVE THAT IS TO HAVE OUR GUIDANCE COUNSELORS TALK ABOUT ALL THE CHANGES THAT ARE HAPPENING BECAUSE, YOU KNOW, TO SEE A, YOU KNOW, ALL THE DIFFERENT PLACES THAT PEOPLE ARE GOING AND THE OPTIONS OF, YOU KNOW, OF COLLEGE OF OTHER OPTIONS BESIDES THAT.
BUT TO SEE RESULTS FROM EVERY SCHOOL AS WE HAVE SEEN IN THE PAST OF WHERE STUDENTS ARE GOING AND WHAT THEY ARE DOING, I THINK KNOWING THOSE CHANGES AS A PARENT, WE DON'T KNOW WHAT WE DON'T KNOW.
RIGHT. I THINK THAT'S REALLY IMPORTANT.
WHAT IS THE CORRECT TERMINOLOGY? PROFESSIONAL SCHOOL COUNSELOR.
PROFESSIONAL SCHOOL COUNSELORS.
THEY GUIDE ME. THERE ARE IMPORTANT THINGS.
SO EVERY DAY I'M GETTING EMAILS FROM TO HARVARD AND WELLESLEY SAYING, OKAY, HERE ARE SOME CHANGES.
YOU KNOW, THEY IF YOU'RE GOING TO FOR HARVARD, FOR EXAMPLE, IF YOU SUBMIT THEIR TEST OPTIONAL, IF YOU SUBMIT TEST SCORES, THAT WILL BE SUPPRESSED TO THE COMMITTEE THAT'S EVALUATING YOUR APPLICATION.
SO WHAT'S THE POINT? AND IF YOU SUBMIT IT, IT BETTER BE A 1550 TO 1600.
YOU KNOW, SO THERE'S LITTLE BITS OF THAT THAT THEY'RE GETTING EVERY SINGLE DAY FROM OTHER.
COLLEGES THAT HELP PAINT THIS PICTURE THAT WE THEN TALK WITH KIDS.
YOU KNOW, CAN ADVISE ALL THE DIFFERENT LEVELS AND EVERYTHING.
THE LANDSCAPE IS CHANGING ON WHAT WHAT ADMISSIONS OFFICES ARE LOOKING FOR AND IF WE CAN GET THAT TO PARENTS WHO THEN WHO ARE OFTEN YOU HAVE TO DO THIS, YOU HAVE TO DO THIS BECAUSE THAT'S HOW IT'S ALWAYS BEEN.
OH, ACTUALLY, YOU DON'T HAVE TO DO THAT.
AND YOU SPARKED THE OUR GRADING STANDARDS.
SO I THINK THERE'S SOME PREEMPTIVE THINGS THAT CAN HELP, WHICH THEN WILL TURN AROUND AND HELP SELL SOME OF OUR SPECIAL PROGRAMS. TO HAVE DIFFERENT THINGS FOR THEM TO WORK ON.
[00:55:09]
TALENTS THAT MIGHT BE IN THERE FOR SOMETHING ELSE.SO LIKE DIVIDE AND CONQUER, KIND OF A CONCEPT FOR CAC.
THE PRIORITY AREA AND EVEN WHAT YOU WERE JUST MENTIONING NOW TO KNOW WHAT'S CHANGING IN THE WORLD OF COLLEGE AND ALSO CAREERS AS THE BASIS FOR FILTERING, WHAT PATHWAYS DO WE HAVE CURRENTLY AND WHAT MIGHT NOW START TO BECOME ONE THAT MORE STUDENTS AND FAMILIES WOULD WANT BECAUSE THEY KNOW THAT THESE OTHER OUTSIDE OF 12TH GRADE THINGS ARE CHANGING AND BEYOND? WHAT DO WE NEED TO BE THINKING ABOUT FOR THAT UL BUILDING TO GET AHEAD OF THAT? WELL, BECAUSE SO MUCH OF WHAT WE OFFER SORRY, SO MUCH OF WHAT WE OFFER IS FOR COLLEGE BOUND STUDENTS, OUR COMMUNITY IS VERY FOCUSED ON THEIR KIDS GOING TO COLLEGE.
AND I THINK THAT OFTEN THEN THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT ANY OTHER OPTIONS ARE.
RIGHT? I HAVE TO GO TO COLLEGE.
WHAT DO YOU WANT TO MAJOR IN? I DON'T KNOW.
IT'S VERY, YOU KNOW, SO SO LAYING OUT MORE CLEARLY WHAT THE OPTIONS ARE.
TRADE SCHOOL, GO TO WORK, JOIN THE MILITARY.
YOU KNOW, THERE'S LOTS OF DIFFERENT PATHWAYS.
SO AND I LIKE THAT, YOU KNOW, FINDING OUT ARE WE OFFERING PATHWAYS THAT ARE NO LONGER RELEVANT OR HIRING OR, YOU KNOW, LIKE THE CTE ADVISORY BOARD. THEY MEET WITH INDUSTRY EVERY YEAR TO KIND OF CALIBRATE AND MAKE SURE.
RIGHT, AT LEAST WITH OUR LOCAL ECONOMY IS NEEDED.
WELL, IF IT'S I KNOW WE'RE GETTING OFF TOPIC HERE, BUT IF IT'S LIKE CASCADIA TECH IS FULL, RIGHT.
THEY HAVE WAITING LISTS FOR ALMOST ALL THEIR PROGRAMS. SO THAT JUST GOES TO SHOW THAT LIKE THOSE KIDS ARE GETTING INTO THAT BECAUSE THERE'S ALL KINDS OF TRADES AND DIFFERENT THINGS BESIDES COLLEGE, AND THEY DON'T HAVE ENOUGH ROOM FOR ANYBODY WHO WANTS TO GO. SO THAT'S A PROBLEM, RIGHT, THAT OUR SCHOOLS ARE TRYING TO HELP ADDRESS.
RIGHT. SO AND LETTING PARENTS AND FAMILIES KNOW THERE ARE ALL KINDS OF OPTIONS FOR KIDS.
SO I THINK THAT'D BE GREAT TO TELL THE CAC.
AND LIKE I SAID, THE MORE INFORMATION WE CAN GET TO THEM THAT THEY CAN HELP US GET TO THE COMMUNITY.
TO REALLY SEE HOW WE'RE LAYING THE GROUNDWORK FOR THAT IN THE EARLIER ELEMENTARY.
AND LIKE YOU SAID, EVEN PRE-K IS IMPORTANT.
IT DEFINITELY GIVES US SOME GREAT FEEDBACK AND DIRECTION.
THANKS, LISA. WANDER OFF [INAUDIBLE] YOUR WALK.
OKAY, SO THAT MOVES US ON TO ITEM F.
[F. Board Site Visits 2023/24]
SO JUST TALKING ABOUT HOW WE WANT TO STRUCTURE OUR SITE VISITS THIS YEAR SO THAT WE GET MAXIMUM PARTICIPATION FROM THE BOARD, BUT ALSO MAKE THEM WORTH NOT ONLY WORTH OUR TIME, BUT WORTH THE TIME OF THE BUILDINGS WE GO TO.SO I WOULD SAY THAT MY SCHEDULE IS THE MOST FLEXIBLE.
GAIL, DID YOU WAS THERE JUST I DIDN'T WANT TO JUMP THE GUN HERE.
IS THERE SOMETHING DID YOU WANT TO LEAD US THROUGH ANYTHING OR IS THIS JUST KIND OF AN OPEN ENDED DISCUSSION HERE? WELL, THE ONLY THING THAT I WANTED TO MENTION WAS THAT I GET A LITTLE TOO CLOSE WHEN I YELL AT ALL, IS THAT BAMINI CAN MAKE IT ON TUESDAYS, BUT CAN'T ON THURSDAYS.
SO I WOULD LIKE TO SUGGEST THAT WE SWITCH TO TUESDAYS.
YEAH. AND THEN DO YOU WANT THEM HALF DAYS? DO YOU WANT THEM FULL DAYS? THESE ARE TOUGH. THESE ARE WAY TOO TOUGH FOR ME.
HALF DAYS? YEAH. DO YOU PREFER MORNINGS OR AFTERNOONS? MHM. OR DO YOU WANT.
AFTERNOONS FOR ME. YOU WANT ME TO ALTERNATE THEM.
YEAH, SOME COULD MAKE IT AND SOME.
YEAH. YEAH, LIKE MORNINGS WOULD BE GREAT IF WE'RE DONE BY 10:30 OR SOMETHING, YOU KNOW? MORNING. YOU KNOW, SO MUCH OF MY SCHOOL DAY IS DONE BY NOON.
YOU KNOW, I ONLY HAVE 2.5 HOURS OF KIDS LEFT, AND SO.
AND. AND I REALLY LIKED WHEN WE WOULD GO TO A SCHOOL AND MEET WITH AN ADMINISTRATOR AND THEY'RE LIKE, OKAY, WE'RE WORKING ON THIS PROBLEM OF PRACTICE, OR THIS IS THE THING WE'RE REALLY FOCUSED ON.
[01:00:01]
AND THEN WE'D GO TO THE CLASSROOMS TO SEE THAT HAPPENING.AND SO THIS IS HOW WE DECIDE WHO NEEDS MORE INTERVENTION AND YOU KNOW THIS.
IT REALLY HELPED ME UNDERSTAND WHAT THEY'RE FOCUS ON.
AND WHAT DOES THAT LOOK LIKE TO A STUDENT? TELL US.
IT DOESN'T ALWAYS HAVE TO BE GOOD.
LIKE HERE'S SOME CHALLENGES THAT WE HAVE.
YOU KNOW, AND I WOULD SAY IT DOESN'T EVEN ALWAYS HAVE TO BE THAT.
RIGHT? WAS THAT YOU AND ME COREY? YEAH, SOMETIMES IT'S JUST WAY LESS FORMAL.
AND ACTUALLY, SOMEONE ELSE JOINED US.
SO IT'S KIND OF, I LOVE THE LEARNING ONES LIKE THAT.
I ALSO LOVE WHEN IT'S LIKE, JUST SHOW US YOUR SCHOOL AND WHAT'S.
AND I THINK I REALLY LIKE THAT.
AND THEN THE ONES THAT LIKE ALL OF US OR MOST OF US CAN ATTEND, WE CAN DO A BIGGER THING.
IT JUST NEEDS TO BE REALLY EASY.
SO THAT'S WHAT WE'VE BEEN TALKING ABOUT, OTHER WAYS TO IMPLEMENT OUR INTERNS AND GET THEM INVOLVED.
SO THAT MIGHT BE A GOOD, GOOD OPTION.
SO IT DOESN'T HAVE TO BE THE PRINCIPAL, RIGHT? BE WHOEVER THEY WHOEVER ELSE THEY WANT TO HAVE THAT EXPOSURE.
AND ALSO, I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO SEE WE HAVE DIFFERENT PROGRAMS AT LOCATED AT DIFFERENT SCHOOLS.
I WOULD LIKE TO SEE THOSE SO I CAN.
ARE YOU TALKING LIKE OUR SPECIAL SERVICES PROGRAMS? YEAH. OR WE'LL HAVE A BEHAVIORAL PROGRAM OR YOU KNOW, WE HAVE A I DON'T KNOW.
I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT THEY ALL ARE.
YEAH. AND TO SEE WHAT THAT LOOKS LIKE IN A SCHOOL.
I REMEMBER SEEING IT UP AT FOX.
I DON'T KNOW. BUT IT'D BE NICE TO SEE.
OKAY. WHERE ARE THOSE PROGRAMS? HOW ARE THEY HOUSED? WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE? JUST SO WHEN WE TALK ABOUT IT IN MEETINGS, WE.
GAIL, HOW LONG I'M TRYING TO REMEMBER HOW LONG ARE OUR SITE VISITS USUALLY LIKE PER SCHOOL? IS IT LIKE AN HOUR? OKAY. WITH A LITTLE BIT OF COMMUTE TIME.
A LITTLE BIT OF TIME IN BETWEEN, BUT WE TRY TO GROUP THEM.
AND IF WE DO HALF DAYS, ARE WE TALKING LIKE HOW MANY THAT WILL TAKE US? NO, BUT I MEAN THE SCHOOL YEAR.
HOW MANY OF THOSE SITE VISITS WILL WE HAVE THEN? LIKE WE USUALLY? WELL, WHAT WE USUALLY TRY AND HIT EVERY SCHOOL ONCE, SOMETIMES CAMAS HIGH SCHOOL WE TRY AND DO TWICE.
AND IT JUST REALLY DEPENDS ON IF SOMETHING HAS TO BE CANCELED.
WE'LL SHIFT EVERYBODY. WE ARE ALL COUNTING ON OUR FINGERS.
SO IF WE HAD 12 SCHOOLS THAT TAKE US FORWARD, I'M JUST TRYING TO THINK, IS IT EVERY MONTH? IS IT EVERY QUARTER? LIKE HOW DO WE? ON THE PROGRESS MONITORING? SO OCTOBER, NOVEMBER.
OCTOBER, NOVEMBER, FEBRUARY, MARCH AND MAY.
YEAH 5. SO WE SHOULD BE ABLE TO HIT EVERY SCHOOL IN THE YEAR.
I MEAN. DO THE SCHOOLS DO THE SCHOOLS HAVE ANY INPUT ON WHEN THEY GO? IS THERE LIKE, IT'S JUST WE'RE JUST GOING TO BE HERE, SHOW US SOMETHING.
OKAY. BECAUSE IT'S REALLY YOUR SCHEDULE THAT'S THE HARDEST ONE TO PUT TOGETHER.
OKAY. AND I'M JUST THINKING LIKE IF A SCHOOL WOULD WANT TO GO AT A CERTAIN TIME OF I DON'T KNOW IF MAYBE THIS IS GETTING TOO NITPICKY, BUT LIKE IF A SCHOOL WOULD WANT TO GO AT A CERTAIN TIME OF YEAR BECAUSE OF SOMETHING GOING ON.
BUT. YEAH, LIKE NOT, INTERRUPTING CERTAIN SCHOOLS LIKE IN DURING THEIR TESTING WINDOW AND THAT KIND OF STUFF BECAUSE I FEEL LIKE WE DID THAT ONCE ON ACCIDENT AND LIKE WE COULDN'T SEE CERTAIN GRADES.
[01:05:05]
AND ARE THERE PROGRAMS HERE THAT WE SHOULD SEE? WHAT ABOUT ONCE WE GET.YEAH, WE MAY WANT TO SEE THE PROGRAM HERE.
BUT THAT'S REALLY, REALLY EARLY.
YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT THE ONE HERE AT ZAC.
OH, JUST THE YEAH. WE USUALLY HAVE HLC ON OUR.
AND THEN WE HAVE THE [INAUDIBLE] CENTER STARTING HERE.
AND WHAT ABOUT THE JACQUELINE ROB CENTER? DO WE EVER TOUR THAT? WE USED TO? SOMETIMES WE'VE YEAH, SOMETIMES WE'VE TACKED THAT ON TO LIKE BALLER IF WE'RE IN THE DOWNTOWN AREA.
JUST EVEN TO SEE THE BUILDING.
IT'S RIGHT NOW, IT'S USED MORE AS A BEFORE OR AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM.
SO. AND I'LL ALTERNATE THE MORNINGS AND AFTERNOONS.
THANKS. ONE YEAR WE VISITED THE TRANSPORTATION DEPARTMENT.
I WAS JUST THINKING THAT. AND THE MAINTENANCE.
THAT WAS MEMORABLE AND IT WAS HELPFUL WHEN WE STARTED BUDGETING FOR NEW BUSSES.
YEAH. SO MAYBE IT COULD BE BEFORE A WORKSHOP THAT WHERE THEY'RE STILL THERE.
THAT'S TRUE. COULD DO A WALK AROUND OR WALK THROUGH.
YEAH, JUST SOME OF OUR FACILITIES DOWN HERE IF WE WANT TO TACK THOSE ON.
YEAH. I WAS ALSO THINKING FOOD SERVICE WITH US.
WITH US BRINGING CHARTWELLS ON.
YOU KNOW THAT YOU CAN JUST GO IN AND IT'LL ONCE THAT INFORMATION IS ALL IN THERE, THAT'S GREAT.
I MEAN OBVIOUSLY THAT'S A NEW.
[G. Coffee Talks]
SO THAT MOVES US ON TO ITEM G, WHICH IS OUR COFFEE TALKS.AND AGAIN, JUST KIND OF TALKING ABOUT.
HOW YOU KNOW HOW WE WANT TO DO THESE.
WE'VE I KNOW THAT I KIND OF I LIKE DOING THEM.
I LIKE, HAVING THAT, THAT OPPORTUNITY FOR SOME BACK AND FORTH DISCUSSION.
I DO FEEL LIKE SOMETIMES WE GET THE SAME PEOPLE OVER AND OVER.
JUST THIS IS JUST KIND OF OUR.
AND DO WE WANT TO DO IT BY TOPIC SOMETIMES? LIKE, YOU KNOW, HEY, THIS MONTH WE'RE GOING TO BE TALKING ABOUT LEDBETTER NEXT MONTH WE'RE GOING TO BE TALKING ABOUT.
SO ALMOST LIKE A LITTLE MINI CAC THEN THERE'S LIKE A TOPIC.
ALMOST BUT YEAH. A TOPIC, AND THEN LIKE WORD ON THE STREET.
I DON'T KNOW. SOMETIMES I FEEL LIKE THAT'S LIKE.
THAT'S WHAT PEOPLE WANT TO COME TO.
IT'S LIKE THEY HAVE SOMETHING PERSONAL THAT THEY WANT.
MAYBE THAT'S WHERE WE DERIVE THE TOPICS FROM.
WE DON'T WANT THAT. DURING A NORMAL YEAR.
WHAT IS THAT? YOU KNOW, JUST KIND OF, HEY, WE'RE GOING TO BE TALKING ABOUT CURRICULUM.
AND THAT'S THAT'LL BE IT FOR THE FIRST HOUR.
AND THEN THE LAST HALF HOUR IS WHATEVER WORD ON THE STREET.
YOU KNOW, FOR EXAMPLE, BLAH, BLAH, BLAH, AND MAYBE THE WHOLE BUNCH WILL COME UP.
BUT THERE MIGHT BE SOME INTEREST IN CERTAIN TOPICS.
THERE WAS ALSO TALK ABOUT CONTINUING IN PERSON OR DO YOU WANT TO TRY? WOULD WE TRY SOME ON ZOOM? I DON'T KNOW. JUST WE WERE THINKING LIKE WHEN WE'VE DONE THOSE VIRTUAL TOWN HALL MEETINGS, THOSE ARE ALWAYS REALLY WELL ATTENDED, BUT BE ABLE TO HAVE SOME ACTUAL DIALOG AS OPPOSED TO.
WOULD BE GOOD. BECAUSE I DO LOVE OUR ZOOM.
WHEN YOU'VE DONE THE TOWN HALLS OR THE BUDGET THING.
WE WERE PLANNING ONE FOR THE UPCOMING LEVY, LIKE A FINANCIAL 101.
YES. THEN YOU GUYS ANSWER QUESTIONS IN THE BACKGROUND ABOUT.
[01:10:02]
BUT I THINK FOR US, HAVING A COFFEE TALK ON ZOOM WOULD BE HARD BECAUSE SOMEONE WOULD HAVE TO MUTE AND UNMUTE OR IT WOULD BE VERY AWKWARD.I'M FINE. YEAH, I'M FINE WITH IT WAS JUST AN IDEA.
I'M FINE WITH KEEPING IT IN PERSON THOUGH.
SOMETHING ELSE THAT CAME UP WAS I CAN'T REMEMBER IF IT WAS ERIC OR SOMEONE AT ONE POINT ASKED ABOUT PROVIDING FEEDBACK OR FOLLOW UP, BUT WE DIDN'T HAVE SIGN IN SHEETS, SO WE HAD TALKED ABOUT DO WE WANT TO KEEP THEM INFORMAL WHERE PEOPLE FEEL MORE SAFE FOR NOT PUTTING THEIR NAME DOWN? OR IS THAT IS THERE A WAY FOR THAT TO HAPPEN? I THINK LISA AND I WERE TALKING ABOUT THIS A WEEK AGO WHERE I THINK WE'VE OFFERED COMMENT CARDS WHERE IF YOU DO HAVE A QUESTION OR WOULD LIKE SOME FEEDBACK OR FOLLOW UP, YOU CAN FILL THE CARD OUT OR YOU CAN JUST BE COMPLETELY ANONYMOUS.
SO I JUST WANTED TO GET YOUR THOUGHTS ON THAT.
RIGHT. RIGHT. YEAH I THINK I THINK YEAH.
WRAPPING UP AT THE END TOO OF WE'D LIKE TO FOLLOW UP WITH SEVERAL OF YOU BROUGHT UP GOOD POINTS TODAY IF YOU'D BE SO INCLINED WE COULD EVEN HAVE OUR BUSINESS CARDS THERE THAT YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN? THEN THEY COULD TAKE IT. DOESN'T IT HAVE OUR EMAIL ADDRESS ON IT.
YEAH, THEY COULD TAKE IF THEY WANTED TO HAVE IT.
I HAVE A WHOLE BOX OF THEM WE NEED TO START USING I GUESS.
WHAT ABOUT FREQUENCY? LIKE, HOW OFTEN DO WE DO THEM? I FEEL LIKE WE KIND OF.
SO I DON'T KNOW. WE NEVER REALLY GOT INTO A REAL GOOD RHYTHM WITH THEM.
SO WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK? LIKE A QUARTERLY KIND OF THING? QUARTERLY. UNLESS WE HAVE SOME.
A LARGER TOPIC THAT WE WANT TO ADD.
ANOTHER ONE TO SPECIFICALLY TALK ABOUT.
THAT'S JUST BECAUSE SEPTEMBER IS RIGHT BACK TO SCHOOL.
YEAH. AND THEN YOU GET TO THE HOLIDAYS.
SO I WOULD JUST IF I'M THROWING OUT A MONTH TO START, I WOULD SAY OCTOBER.
OTHERWISE, I FEEL LIKE IT ALMOST HAVE TO BE AFTER THE FIRST OF THE YEAR.
I WOULD SUGGEST OCTOBER AND FEBRUARY.
AND DEPENDING ON THE LEVEE AND WHERE WE ARE WITH ALL OF THAT OR ANYTHING ELSE THAT COMES UP.
HAVE ANOTHER ONE, MAYBE LATE MAY.
YEAH, I WAS GOING TO SAY END OF APRIL OR MAY.
NOT THE BEGINNING OF MAY. AND WHEN WE'RE TALKING OCTOBER AND FEBRUARY, ARE WE SAYING BACK TO BACK WITH EDUCATORS OR, YOU KNOW, STAFF AND COMMUNITY.
BECAUSE I'D LIKE TO KIND OF LIKE SPREAD THEM OUT.
I FELT LIKE WE KIND OF CONDENSED THEM A BIT IF WE COULD SPREAD THEM OUT.
I MEAN, STILL HAVE ONE FOR COMMUNITY AND ONE FOR STAFF.
YEAH, I THINK WE DID THEM LIKE WEDNESDAY.
I THINK THEY WERE CLOSE TOGETHER IN TIME.
OH, YOU'RE SAYING SPREAD THEM OUT.
SPREAD THEM OUT, BUT STILL DO ONE.
WAS THERE ADVANTAGE TO HAVING THEM ON WEDNESDAY AND SATURDAY? WAS THERE SOME LIKE IS THERE.
LIKE, I THINK THAT WAS WHY WE WERE KIND OF DOING THAT.
SO I LIKE SEPARATING IT STILL BECAUSE THE ISSUES ARE A LITTLE BIT DIFFERENT.
AND I THINK ONE OF THE REASONS THAT WE DID THEM CLOSER TOGETHER BEFORE IS BECAUSE WE WERE ADDRESSING AN ISSUE, RIGHT? WE WERE TALKING A LOT ABOUT BUDGETING.
IT WAS ALL ABOUT BUDGETING. IT WAS TIMELY.
BUT IF IF THEY'RE JUST OPEN TOPICS, THEN WE CAN SPREAD THEM OUT AND JUST SAY, HEY, WHAT'S THE WORD ON THE STREET? I ALSO THINK FOR COMMUNICATION WISE, THOUGH, IT MIGHT BE EASIER TO DO THEM CLOSE TOGETHER BECAUSE IT'S LIKE, HEY, SCHOOL BOARDS ARE IN COFFEE TALKS IF YOU'RE AN EDUCATOR COME WEDNESDAY, I MEAN, IF YOU'RE A STAFF COME WEDNESDAY, IF YOUR COMMUNITY COMES SATURDAY, OTHERWISE IT'D BE MORE COMMUNITY.
IT'D BE LIKE ONE THE FIRST WEEK OF OCTOBER.
IF YOUR STAFF MEMBER THIS DAY COMMUNITY THIS DAY.
WE'VE ALSO AND THIS IS I MEAN IT'S LONGER FOR US, BUT WE ALSO USED TO DO IT WHERE WE'D DO LIKE 10 TO 12 WAS THE COMMUNITY ONE, AND THEN 1 TO 3 WAS THE LIKE IT WAS ON THE SAME DAY.
I DO REMEMBER THAT BECAUSE I FEEL LIKE WE TOOK A LITTLE BREAK IN THE MIDDLE AND THEN WE CAME BACK.
YEAH. THEN YOU WOULDN'T MIGHT NOT GET THE DOUBLE.
YOU MIGHT NOT GET THE BLEED OVER AS MUCH.
YEAH. OR PEOPLE OR. YEAH. ARE PEOPLE SHOWING UP TO DOUBLE.
YEAH. THAT WOULD THEN HAVE TO MEAN THAT WE WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO DO THAT ON A WEEKNIGHT NECESSARILY.
THEN THAT WOULD BE LIKE A SATURDAY KIND OF THING.
I THINK WE DID IT AT HAYES FREEDOM AND IT WAS LIKE SOCCER TIME AND FAMILIES.
PEOPLE CAME OVER BECAUSE EVERYONE WAS PLAYING SOCCER RIGHT THERE.
[01:15:03]
RIGHT. SO IT WAS EASY.THAT'S NOT WHY WE DID IT. BUT IT WORKED OUT OKAY.
AWESOME. THAT'S GREAT FEEDBACK.
DO WE WANT TO I MEAN, DO WE WANT TO TRY AND SCHEDULE THESE OR? WE CAN.
THAT'S WHAT I'M WONDERING. SO, I MEAN, IS THAT WHAT WE'RE THINKING LIKE LIKE TRY AND DO A SATURDAY IN OCTOBER? I DIDN'T WANT TO FORCE YOU GUYS TO GO ONE WAY OR ANOTHER.
I JUST KNOW WE DID THAT ONE TIME AND.
WOULD YOU PREFER TO DO THAT? I DON'T KNOW. YEAH.
OR KIDS SPORTS SCHEDULES AND THAT KIND OF STUFF.
I DON'T KNOW WHAT'S UP, BAMINI.
I KNOW. I MEAN, DO YOU WANT TO DO THAT NOW OR DO WE WANT TO DO IT LATER? I MEAN, I DON'T KNOW. DOES EVERYBODY HAVE THE SCHEDULES THEY ARE GOING TO NEED? I ALSO THINK, THOUGH, IF WE DO A WHOLE DAY ON SATURDAY, IF LIKE I COULD ONLY MAKE THE MORNING AND NOT THE AFTERNOON, YOU DON'T HAVE TO STAY THE WHOLE DAY.
OKAY, SO YOU'RE SUGGESTING HAVING TWO ON ONE SATURDAY IN OCTOBER? YEAH. IF IT DOESN'T WORK, THEN THE NEXT IN FEBRUARY, WE SWITCH IT TO SOMETHING ELSE, RIGHT? YEAH. YEAH.
`O, LIKE. YEAH. JUST TRY IT LIKE 10 TO 12 FOR COMMUNITY AND 1 TO 3 FOR STAFF.
OKAY. THAT GIVES US A LITTLE BREAK IN BETWEEN.
OR NINE. THEN WE'D HAVE LIKE AN HOUR AND A HALF BREAK.
I WOULD LOVE TO GET LUNCH OR SOMETHING.
THAT DOESN'T MATTER TO ME. I'M OPEN.
AND THEN, THOUGHTS ON THE LOCATION.
WE JUST KIND OF IS IT EASIER ON STAFF IF WE IF WE KEEP IT HERE AT ZAC? OR I DON'T KNOW. IT'S EASIER ON ME BECAUSE I HAVE TO PREPARE EVERYTHING, THE COFFEE AND SO FORTH HERE AND EITHER TAKE IT WHERE WE GO.
I LIKE IT HERE. AND I LIKE THAT ROOM.
BUT WITH THE EXTERIOR ACCESS AND ALL.
AND ESPECIALLY IF WE KEEP IT COMING TO THE SAME PLACE THAT WE WANT TO GET ACROSS, IS THAT THIS IS WELCOMING AND THIS IS WELCOMING AND IT'S ALL RIGHT HERE.
WELL, WHY ELSE WOULD THEY BE ABLE TO WOULD THEY COME HERE IN ANY OTHER TIME? RIGHT. IF WE'RE EXPECTING A LOT MORE PEOPLE.
OKAY. SO WE'LL TRY IT FOR WE'LL TRY FOR SOME SATURDAY DOUBLE DUTY AND WE'LL KEEP IT HERE.
OKAY. DO WE WANT TO? DO WE WANT TO JUST KEEP THEM OPEN ENDED OR DO WE WANT TO DO TOPICS? JUST KEEP IT OPEN ENDED FOR NOW.
AND MAYBE IN THE FIRST ONE WE CAN SOLICIT TOPICS.
HEY, IS THERE SOMETHING THAT YOU REALLY WANT TO BECAUSE AND I WAS THINKING HOW TO HANDLE THIS BECAUSE YOU COULD HAVE, YOU KNOW, A COUPLE PEOPLE COME AND THEN THAT TOPIC DOMINATES THE WHOLE THING AND THEN PEOPLE LEAVE AND IT'S LIKE, WELL, I NEVER GOT TO TALK, BUT I WANT TO TALK ABOUT MAYBE THERE'S SOME SORT OF SIGN IN, LIKE, WHAT TOPIC ARE YOU INTERESTED IN TALKING ABOUT? OR ANY, YOU KNOW, KIND OF LIKE WE DO WITH PUBLIC COMMENTS.
SO WE'RE GOING TO SPEND SOME TIME ON THAT.
YOU KNOW, WE CAN FIGURE IT OUT.
YEAH, SOME WAY TO SUSS THAT OUT.
I KNOW THAT WAS REALLY OPTIMISTIC HAVING 16 PEOPLE.
NO, BUT ALSO THAT'S WHAT WE WANT.
WE DO WANT TO TRY AND GET OUR ATTENTION.
NO, I'M THINKING OF DIFFERENT WAYS THAT I LIKE POLL MY CLASSROOM AND STUFF LIKE THAT.
LIKE THE TOPIC WE WANT TO TALK ABOUT.
THE WORD IS BIGGER ON THE SCREEN, YOU KNOW, THAT KIND OF STUFF.
LETTER H, OUR POLICY REVIEW PROCESS.
[H. Policy Review Process]
GAIL, DO YOU WANT TO OR GAIL OR JOHN, DO YOU WANT TO LEAD THROUGH THIS ONE? I'M A LITTLE NOT QUITE SURE.SO WE DID REMEMBER. TALK BRIEFLY AT THE PLANNING SESSION THAT WE COULD BRING THE POLICY REVIEW TO A WORKSHOP WHEN WE HAVE THE NEXT BATCH COME UP AND EVERYBODY COULD LOOK THROUGH IT AT THE SAME TIME VERSUS GOING TO A POLICY REVIEW COMMITTEE.
SHE WAS LIKE, RIGHT, RIGHT, RIGHT. YEAH.
WHAT IS IT? IS IT ABOUT QUARTERLY THAT WE DO THOSE? AND HOW LONG IS YOUR GUYS POLICY MEETING USUALLY? NOT MORE THAN AN HOUR EVER.
SO IT WOULD ADD AN HOUR POTENTIALLY.
IT WOULD ADD AN HOUR, POTENTIALLY.
AN HOUR TO A WORKSHOP. AND IF WE DID PRE WORK BEFORE WHICH I DON'T THAT'S YEAH.
[01:20:06]
SO I WOULDN'T MIND DOING THAT.YEAH. AND THEN WALKING THROUGH AND UNDERSTAND YOU KNOW A LOT OF THE UPDATES ARE JUST WSSDA HAS UPDATED AND HERE'S WHAT THEY RECOMMEND AND IT'S KIND OF LIKE YEP THAT LOOKS GOOD . THEY'VE DONE ALL THE RESEARCH AND OTHERS ARE LIKE DO WE WANT TO INCLUDE THAT? IS THIS CLEAR ENOUGH? YOU KNOW, AND WALKING THROUGH THAT ALTOGETHER, I ENJOYED THE PROCESS.
I MISS IT NOT BEING ON THAT COMMITTEE.
AND THEN IT'LL GO TO FIRST AND THEN AT LEAST THEN TO WHEN, IT'S GOING TO FIRST READING.
AND WE JUST KIND OF SAY, YEP, AND WE APPROVE IT.
AT LEAST WE'VE GOT THE LEGWORK BEHIND TO SHOW FOR IT TOO, BECAUSE.
OKAY. I'LL DO A BEFORE WE DO THE FIRST BATCH.
I WILL TRY TO DO A TUTORIAL WHEN I SEND THEM OUT TO YOU AHEAD OF TIME IN THE WORKSHOP AGENDA TO GIVE YOU THOSE OF YOU WHO HAVEN'T DONE IT BEFORE. WHY IT'S LAID OUT THE WAY IT IS AND WHERE TO FIND INFORMATION.
AWESOME. COLORS MEAN SOMETHING.
YEAH. WELL, AND ALSO THEN, WSSDA.
WHAT IS THAT POLICY AND LEGAL NEWS AND LEGAL NEWS.
SO WE CHANGED OUR POLICIES TO THIS.
AND SO THAT'S ALWAYS A NERDY, INTERESTING READ.
WELL, THIS IS GOOD. THIS WORKSHOP WAS GOOD.
YEAH. THANK YOU. THANKS FOR ALL THE.
GOT MORE THINGS TO ADD TO OUR PROGRESS MONITORING.
WE'RE GOING TO CLOSE. WELL, THE BOARD.
SO YEAH, I'M GETTING THE TERMINOLOGY DOWN.
THANKS COREY. YEAH. SO, WE ARE GOING TO RECESS THE WORKSHOP INTO A CLOSED SESSION FOR NEGOTIATIONS.
[2. RECESS OF WORKSHOP]
IT SAYS ABOUT ABOUT 45 MINUTES.6:40. I'LL COME OUT TO EITHER ADJOURN OR EXTEND OUR TIME.
SO UNTIL THEN, WE ARE IN RECESS.
I WILL GO AHEAD AND ADJOURN OUR WORKSHOP FOR TODAY.
THANK YOU.
