>> GOOD EVENING, EVERYONE.

WELCOME TO OUR OCTOBER 23RD BOARD MEETING.

IT IS 5:30, SO WE'LL GO AHEAD AND GET STARTED HERE.

IF YOU WOULD PLEASE RISE IF YOU'RE ABLE AND JOIN ME IN THE PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE, TRACY MALONE IS LEADING US [BACKGROUND].

NEXT IS OUR LAND ACKNOWLEDGMENT, AND THAT'LL BE READ BY CONNIE HENNESSY.

>> THANK YOU, COREY. I ACKNOWLEDGED THAT

[A. Secondary Continuous Growth]

THE GEOGRAPHICAL REGION OF THE CAMAS SCHOOL IS LOCATED ON THE ANCESTRAL AND TERRITORIAL LANDS OF THE CHINOOK AND CATALYSTS PEOPLE.

THAT THE CHINOOK ARE STILL FIGHTING TO BE A FEDERALLY RECOGNIZED TRIBE ON THEIR OWN LANDS.

>> THANKS, CONNIE. NEXT ITEM OF BUSINESS IS 2A OUR MILL TOWN PRIOR TO AWARD AND DR. ANGELA, I'LL TURN IT OVER TO YOU.

>> AWESOME. THANK YOU, EVERYONE AND THANKS FOR BEING HERE.

IT'S SO GOOD TO SEE SO MANY STUDENTS IN THE CROWD TONIGHT.

THIS IS WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT.

THANK YOU FOR BEING HERE.

I'M STARTING OFF TONIGHT WITH A MILL TOWN PRIOR TO AWARD, I WANT TO WELCOME UP DIRECTOR BURKE, WHO IS GOING TO PRESENT OUR WORK TONIGHT.

>> PLEASE JOIN ME. LESLIE IS AN UNSUNG HERO IN OUR DISTRICT AND I THINK THE TIME HAS COME TO SING.

I'VE HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO BE IN THE HELEN KELLER CAFETERIA MULTIPLE TIMES OVER THE LAST COUPLE OF WEEKS.

I'VE BEEN IN THERE FOR BREAKFAST AND I'VE BEEN THERE FOR LUNCH RIGHT ALONGSIDE MY FRIEND.

IN TWO DAYS, SHALL BE CELEBRATING HER SEVENTH ANNIVERSARY IN OUR SCHOOL DISTRICT.

OUR DISTRICT IS SO MUCH RICHER FOR HAVING HER IN IT AND HERE'S WHY.

I'VE KNOWN HER FOR A FEW YEARS NOW I MET HER WHEN YOU WORKED AT WOODBURN.

HERE'S THE THING ABOUT LESLIE IS THAT SHE IS A WARM DEMANDER OF THE STUDENTS.

SHE IS THERE FOR THEM IN THE MORNING.

SHE CALLS THEM ALL BY THEIR NAME.

SO MANY TIMES I'VE SEEN HER GO AND CHECK WITH US STUDENTS SITTING ALL BY THEMSELVES AT LUNCH JUST TO MAKE SURE THEY'RE OKAY.

SHE'S KIND, GENEROUS, THOUGHTFUL.

I'VE SEEN HER SPEAKING SPANISH TO STUDENTS AND HAVE THEM RESPOND TO HER AND SMILE FOR THE FIRST TIME IN MY PRESENCE.

I'M SURE THEY SMILE AT YOU ALL THE TIME.

IN OUR DISTRICT, WE WANT EVERYONE TO FEEL LIKE THEY BELONG.

LESLIE IS SOMETIMES THE FIRST-PERSON, THE FIRST STAFF MEMBER COULD SEE IN THE MORNING.

THIS IS REALLY IMPORTANT TO US AND I'M SO PROUD TO HAVE YOU ON OUR TEAM.

I WANTED TO OFFER YOU A MILL TOWN PRIDE AWARD BECAUSE THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT WE HOPE FOR FROM OLIVER. [APPLAUSE]

>> I FEEL VERY HONORED TO RECEIVE THIS AWARD, AND ALSO I AM GRATEFUL TO HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO HELP AND SERVE OUR STUDENTS ON A DAILY BASIS. THANK YOU. [APPLAUSE]

>> YOU'RE JUST RECORDING. [APPLAUSE]

>> THANK YOU LESLIE, AND CONGRATULATIONS. MOVING ON.

WE'RE GOING TO HEAR FROM QUITE A FEW STUDENTS NOW THIS IS GREAT.

I LOVE SEEING ALL THESE REPORTS.

WE'RE GOING TO START WITH OUR ODYSSEY MIDDLE SCHOOL REPORT AND HELEN.

>> HELLO, MY NAME IS HELEN CRANE AND I AM

[00:05:03]

THE STUDENT ADMINISTRATIVE AID TO MISS ROOKIE ASSOCIATE PRINCIPAL AT ODYSSEY MIDDLE SCHOOL.

WE WOULD LIKE TO SHARE WITH THE BOARD OR EXPERIENCES FROM ODYSSEYS FIRST EVER SCHOOL-WIDE PROJECT? YES. DR. N'S LOAN, THERE IS A MAGAZINE FOR THAT.

WE COME BEARING GIFTS.

WE LEARNED WITH EACH OTHER AND FROM EACH OTHER AND WE REPRESENT TO YOU PROJECT GRIFFIN.

PROJECT GRIFFIN IS A MAGAZINE ABOUT LIFE IN CAMAS FROM FOOD AND ENTERTAINMENT AND OTHER THINGS.

WE'RE ABLE TO DO PROJECT GRIFFIN BECAUSE ODYSSEY MIDDLE SCHOOL IS A PROJECT-BASED LEARNING CAMPUS AND IS VERY EXPERIENCED WITH WORKING IN GROUPS.

TWO HUNDRED AND EIGHTY STUDENTS TOOK PART IN PROJECT GRIFFIN AND MANAGED TO MAKE THIS MAGAZINE IN JUST TWO WEEKS.

WE WERE ABLE TO DO THIS BECAUSE APP ODYSSEY MIDDLE SCHOOL, WE WORK IN GROUPS VERY OFTEN AND WE ARE VERY EXPERIENCED IN THAT, THEREFORE WE ARE ABLE TO COMPLETE THIS IN JUST TWO WEEKS.

>> HELLO, I'M HERE, KAREN YANNI, AND I'M HERE TO TALK TO YOU GUYS ABOUT MY EXPERIENCE WITH PROJECT GRIFFIN AS A SIXTH GRADER AND WORKING WITH THE KIDS FROM ALL THE OTHER GRADES.

TO START OFF, OBVIOUSLY, THIS WAS A SCHOOL-WIDE PROJECT.

FOR MOST GROUPS THERE WERE ABOUT AN EVEN MIX OF SIXTH, SEVENTH, AND EIGHTH GRADERS.

OBVIOUSLY, MOST OF THE PEOPLE DIDN'T KNOW EACH OTHER.

BUT WE WERE STILL ABLE TO COLLABORATE WITH EACH OTHER ON WHAT MIGHT BE PROBABLY ONE OF THE GREATEST THINGS OBVIOUSLY HAS EVER PRODUCED AS OBVIOUSLY IT'S NATURAL MAGAZINE, WE GOT IT PUBLISHED AND EVERYTHING.

BUT WORKING ACROSS GRADES WAS OBVIOUSLY DIFFICULT AT FIRST AS NO ONE REALLY KNEW EACH OTHER AND WE DIDN'T KNOW HOW PEOPLE'S SKILLS WOULD COME INTO PLAY.

BUT IN JUST TWO WEEKS WE WERE ABLE TO CREATE THAT.

>> I'M LEILA RICCI AND I'LL BE TALKING ABOUT HOW IT WAS LIKE TO INTERVIEW SOME OF OUR COMMUNITY MEMBERS AND HOW IT WAS LIKE TO LEARN FROM THEM.

SOME PEOPLE DID THEIR INTERVIEWS OVER PHONE, ZOOM OR EVEN IN-PERSON AND WE HAD TO COME UP WITH QUESTIONS TO ASK BEFOREHAND SO WE KNEW WHAT WE WERE GOING TO TALK ABOUT.

PEOPLE WHO GOT INTERVIEWED, FOR EXAMPLE, INCLUDE THE MAYOR OR THE CITY COUNCIL, ART STUDIO OWNERS, AND OTHER MEMBERS FROM OUR COMMUNITY.

AS A STUDENT, IT CAN BE VERY NERVE-WRACKING TO TALK TO SOMEONE IN AUTHORITY, BUT IT REALLY HELPED US WITH OUR PUBLIC SPEAKING SKILLS AND IT IS GOING TO MAKE US FEEL MORE COMFORTABLE IN THE FUTURE.

IT PUT US OUT OF OUR COMFORT ZONES TO SAY THE LEAST.

BUT IT WAS OVERALL A REALLY GREAT EXPERIENCE WHEN WE GOT TO LEARN FROM ALL OF THESE PEOPLE THAT HAD FASCINATING PROFESSIONS.

>> HI, I'M EDEN SMITH.

I'M HERE TO TALK TO YOU ABOUT WHAT IT WAS LIKE WORKING WITH NEW AND DIFFERENT PEOPLE.

IT WAS INTERESTING TO MEET A DIFFERENT PART OF OUR ODYSSEY COMMUNITY AND LEARN MORE ABOUT THEM.

EVEN THOUGH THERE ARE PEOPLE FROM DIFFERENT GRADES, PEOPLE FROM OLDER GRADES DIDN'T OVERSHADOW THE YOUNGER STUDENTS.

NOW WE FEEL MORE FREE TO SAY HI TO THEM.

HOW WE LEARNED TO COLLABORATE.

WE LEARNED TO COLLABORATE BY BECOMING MORE FAMILIAR AND COMFORTABLE WITH EACH OTHER.

THIS HELPED MOVE ALONG THE PROJECT MORE EFFICIENTLY WITH MINIMAL HANDLING.

>> HI, I'M ALLIE AND I'M AN EIGHTH GRADE STUDENT.

WHAT IT WAS LIKE WORKING WITH DIFFERENT TEACHERS, IT WAS WORKING WITH DIFFERENT TEACHING STYLES SO IT WAS COOL TO WORK WITH DIFFERENT TEACHERS THAT DIDN'T WORK THE SAME AS YOUR NORMAL TEACHERS.

IT WAS DIFFERENT BECAUSE IT WAS NORMAL BECAUSE WE DIDN'T WORK WITH THE SAME GRADE WITH OUR TEACHERS, SO IT WAS COOL TO WORK WITH A LOT DIFFERENT TEACHERS AND IT WAS COOL WORKING FOR THEM AND FIGURING OUT THE DIFFERENT TEACHERS THAT YOU DIDN'T KNOW YET.

>> HEY, EVERYONE. I'M MAYA, SEVENTH GRADE STUDENT AND I'M HERE TO TELL YOU ABOUT A SKILL THAT I ACQUIRED DURING PROJECT TIME.

I LEARNED HOW TO RESEARCH AND USE THAT RESEARCH TO APPLY TO MY ARTWORK.

FOR MORE EXPLANATION, MY JOB IN THE PROJECT WAS TO CREATE POETRY THAT ENCAPTURES SOME OF THE CULTURE IN THE COLLEGE TRIBE.

THIS WAS A VERY USEFUL SKILL TO ACQUIRE AS IT ALTERED THE WAY THAT I TOOK IN INFORMATION AND APPLIED IT TO REGULAR THINGS IN MY LIFE.

LIKE SAY A WORD PROBLEM IN MATH, I REALLY GOT TO BETTER UNDERSTAND THE INFORMATION

[00:10:02]

AND I WOULD KNOW HOW TO APPLY IT AND THEN HUMANITIES, I REALLY ENJOYED AFTER ACQUIRING THAT SKILL.

IT HELPED ME JUST TO TAKE IN INFORMATION AND APPLY IT MORE EFFECTIVELY.

>> HI. I'M SD. I'M AN EIGHTH GRADE STUDENT AT ODYSSEY AND I'M GOING TO BE TALKING TO YOU ABOUT WHAT IT WAS LIKE BEING AN EDITOR AND HAVING A LEADERSHIP ROLE AND WHAT I LEARNED.

I LEARNED A LOT, ESPECIALLY ABOUT OUR SCHOOL AND OUR COMMUNITY OUT OF SCHOOL, AND HOW TO BE A LEADER AND ALSO LISTENED TO PEOPLE.

I LEARNED ABOUT HOW OUR SCHOOL IS A COMMUNITY ENOUGH THAT WE CAN STILL PUT GROUPS TOGETHER WITH DIFFERENT GRADES AND STILL CREATE A GREAT PRODUCT THAT CAN SHOWCASE OUR SCHOOL AND COMMUNITY.

ALSO FOR EVERY STUDENT TO CONTRIBUTE IN A WAY TO CREATE A SCHOOL MAGAZINE THAT HELPS TO SPREAD AWARENESS ABOUT DOWNTOWN CAMAS AND EDUCATE PEOPLE ON WHAT WE DO HERE AT ODYSSEY, THAT'S WHAT I CALL A GREAT PROJECT RIGHT THERE.

ALSO BEING AN EDITOR IT WAS VERY HECTIC BUT ALSO VERY HELPFUL.

I LEARNED A LOT ABOUT HELPING PEOPLE BUT NOT DOING IT FOR THEM.

IT'S EASY TO TAKE OVER, BUT INSTEAD IT TAUGHT ME TO WAIT AND LISTEN TO SEE WHAT PEOPLE HAVE TO SAY AND MAYBE I'LL LEARN SOMETHING AND HELP STEER THEM IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION.

I THINK PROJECT GRIFFIN HAS TAUGHT US A LOT AS EDITORS, TEACHERS, AND STUDENTS, AND I THINK IT WAS A GREAT SUCCESS.

>> HI, I'M KALIA SALLY, AN EIGHTH GRADER, AND I'M GOING TO TALK TO YOU ABOUT WHAT I LIKED THE MOST ABOUT PROJECT GRIFFIN.

I REALLY ENJOYED HOW TO WORK IN GROUPS THAT I DIDN'T EVEN KNOW MOST OF THE PEOPLE IN THERE AND WE REALLY LEARNED EACH OTHER'S NAMES AND WHAT WE LIKED AND HOW WE CAN COLLABORATE BETTER WITH EACH OTHER.

I REALLY ENJOYED WORKING WITH OLDER PEOPLE AND YOUNGER PEOPLE TO TEACH THEM ALSO WHAT THEY DIDN'T KNOW AND HAVING THE EIGHTH GRADERS TEACH US WHAT WE DIDN'T KNOW AS WELL.

AND TO REALLY SINCE ALL OF OUR SCHEDULES DIDN'T MATCH UP TO MANAGE OUR TIME, TO MEET PEOPLE IN DIFFERENT LOCATIONS, IN DIFFERENT AREAS.

>> MY NAME IS ROBERT MOORE. I'M THE ADULT GRIFFIN REPRESENTING TODAY.

WHEN I FIRST CAME TO ODYSSEY, I WAS LIKE, I WOULD LOVE TO DO A MULTI-GRADE LEVEL ALL SCHOOL PROJECT.

WHEN COVID HAPPENED, THAT PUT THINGS ON THE BACK BURNER, BUT WE DID GET IT OFF FOR THE FIRST TIME THIS PAST YEAR AND I THINK MY FRIENDS WHO HAVE REALLY DONE A ELEGANT JOB SPEAKING TO THAT.

BUT I JUST WANTED TO TELL YOU A LITTLE BIT ON THE PROCESS DETAILS ON THE BOARD.

ONE OF THE THINGS WE DO AND WE COLLABORATE IS WE MAKE SURE WE GO THROUGH OUR GROUP AGREEMENTS, WHICH IS ON THE TOP LEFT, SO WE START EACH OF OUR COLLABORATION SESSIONS WITH THAT.

THEN WE BRAINSTORM TOPICS OF INTERESTS THAT WHAT WOULD CAMAS BE ABOUT? YOU CAN SEE FROM SPORTS, THE PARKS AND TRAILS TO ARCHITECTURE, TO NOTABLE PEOPLE, TO NATIVE HISTORY.

THEN WE HAVE SOME EDITOR ASSIGNMENTS IN WHICH OUR STUDENT LEADERS AND OUR EDITORS WHO ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR TEAMS TO OVERSEE AND TO SORT OF PUT TOGETHER THEY'RE CONTENT INTO ONE PROJECT.

OUR CONTENT FORMATS IN GROUPS OF ABOUT 4-6 STUDENTS, THERE WAS ALREADY THE BODY COPY, THE MAIN PART OF THE EACH STUDENT HAD A TWO-PAGE SPREAD, IF YOU WILL.

PART OF THAT WAS WHETHER IT'S AN ARTICLE OR A REVIEW OR AN INTERVIEW OR AN EXPOSE OR AN OPINION PIECE AND THEN THERE'S THE COPY PART, THINGS LIKE PHOTOGRAPHS OR POETRY OR AN ADVICE COLUMN AND HOW TO'S AND THEN THE SIDEBAR IS BECAUSE EVERY MAGAZINE NEEDS A LITTLE BIT OF LEVITY AS WELL TO IT.

I THINK WHAT SPEAKS TO THE SUCCESS OF THIS PROGRAM IS IN THAT BOTTOM RIGHT-HAND, A STUDENT REFLECTION RESULTS IS YOU CAN SEE, ONE BEING THE LOWEST, FOUR BEING THE HIGHEST OF I CREATED SOMETHING THAT MADE ME PROUD AND I THINK THAT'S A TESTAMENT TO THE WORK WE DID THERE AS WELL.

I THINK IT ALSO SPEAKS TO THE UNIQUENESS OF ODYSSEY THAT WE HAD THE ABILITY AS A STAFF TO BE VERY FLEXIBLE WITH OUR SCHEDULE ACROSS GRADE LEVELS, AND ALSO THE WILLINGNESS TO BE CREATIVE AND WORK OUTSIDE THE BOUNDARIES OF OUR CONTENT AREAS AS WELL TO PRODUCE SOMETHING LIKE THIS.

WE VALUE THE SUPPORT OF THE BOARD IN PROJECT-BASED LEARNING AND CERTAINLY INVITE YOU TO COME VISIT US AND LEARN ABOUT OTHER WAYS THAT YOU CAN ALSO SUPPORT PROJECT-BASED LEARNING.

THE END FOR THE COMMUNITY OUT HERE WE DO HAVE EXTRA COPIES, A FEW EXTRA COPIES IF ANYONE WANTS ONE.

MY HELPERS WILL DO SO AFTER OUR PRESENTATION, BUT I WANT TO TURN IT BACK OVER TO HAYLEY FOR CLOSE.

>> IF YOU ASK YOURSELF, IF THERE'S A PLACE IN CAMAS, WERE STUDENTS CREATE PRODUCTS, LEARN WITH AND FROM EACH OTHER, AND INTERACT WITH THEIR COMMUNITY? YES, THERE'S A SCHOOL FOR THAT. THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME.

>> [APPLAUSE] HANG ON JUST A SECOND, FOLKS, BECAUSE I CAN FEEL THE EXCITEMENT ON THE BOARD RIGHT NOW AND I KNOW THAT WE HAVE A LOT OF QUESTIONS AND COMMENTS AND THEY'RE ALL GOOD.

I HAVE MINE, BUT I'LL TURN IT OVER TO YOU GUYS FIRST BECAUSE THIS IS FANTASTIC.

>> I'LL START FIRST. AMAZING. GREAT JOB.

I CAN'T WAIT TO GO DIVE INTO THIS.

WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO WITH THIS? ARE YOU GOING TO GIVE COPIES TO THE PEOPLE THAT YOU INTERVIEWED AND SHARE IN THE COMMUNITY, WHERE WILL WE SEE THIS? I LIKE THAT THIS SAYS ISSUE 1.

I HOPE THAT MEANS THERE'S MORE COMING.

[00:15:04]

>> [BACKGROUND].

>> AWESOME.

>> I JUST ECHO THAT. THIS IS AMAZING AND THIS IS WHAT PROJECT-BASED LEARNING IS ABOUT.

I LOVE SEEING A PRODUCT LIKE THIS COME FROM OUR PROJECT-BASED LEARNING SCHOOLS.

SO THANK YOU FOR THAT.

I BELIEVE WE HAVE SOME SITE VISITS COMING UP TO SCHOOLS PRETTY SOON, SO I LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING YOU ALL THERE.

>> YEAH WE'LL BE THERE ON THE 7TH.

>> YES. JUST A COUPLE OF OTHER THINGS.

I'M JUST PROUD OF YOU GUYS ALL FOR BEING HERE TONIGHT AND COMMEND YOU FOR THE PUBLIC SPEAKING BECAUSE I KNOW THAT'S A DIFFICULT SKILL FOR A LOT OF PEOPLE AND YOU GUYS NAILED IT.

I'M PROUD OF YOU GUYS FOR BEING HERE AND BEING CONFIDENT IN YOUR PUBLIC SPEAKING.

IT'S UNCOMFORTABLE SOMETIMES, BUT YOU GUYS DID FABULOUS.

SO THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

>> VERY IMPRESSIVE. LOVE THAT YOU GUYS ALL GOT UP AND SPOKE.

AS ADULTS HAVE A HARD TIME DOING THAT SOMETIMES SO IT WAS GREAT TO SEE THAT AND INCREDIBLE WORK TO PUT IT TOGETHER IN VERY SHORT TIME.

ASIDE FROM THE THINGS HAVE ALREADY BEEN MENTIONED, I LOVED HOW YOU ALL COVERED THINGS THAT I THINK ARE

[C. Levy Rate Discussion]

SO IMPORTANT IN OUR SOCIETY THAT SOMEHOW WE OFTEN MISS, WHICH IS WORKING TOGETHER, LEADING BUT BY LISTENING.

YOU GUYS ARE ALL THREE DIFFERENT GRADES AND YET YOU WORKED TOGETHER, YOU COLLABORATED.

THERE'S A LOT TO BE SAID ABOUT WHAT YOU GUYS HAVE ACCOMPLISHED THAT US ADULTS DEFINITELY NEED TO WORK ON AS WELL.

>> I JUST WANT TO SHARE THIS FAR AND WIDE.

IT'S AMAZING JUST LEAVING THROUGH IT AND SEEING INTERVIEWS WITH LUTZ HARDWARE AND THE MAYOR AND HIKING TRAILS, RECOMMENDATIONS FOR THINGS TO DO IN AND AROUND COUNTY.

IT'S AMAZING. THIS SHOULD BE LIKE DOWNTOWN AT THE DCA, THE DOWNTOWN CAMAS ASSOCIATION OFFICE, OR CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.

SERIOUSLY, THIS IS REALLY COOL.

WE'RE CONTINUALLY AMAZED EVERY TIME WE GO TO ODYSSEY AND DISCOVERING THE WHOLE PBL CAMPUS.

I THINK ADDING ON TO WHAT YOU SAID, I'M ALWAYS AMAZED WHEN I GO AND WE CAN'T WAIT TO BE THERE IN A COUPLE OF WEEKS.

YOU ALL ARE SO GOOD AT TALKING ABOUT WHAT YOU'RE WORKING ON, HOW EVERYTHING IS CONNECTED, AND JUST THE WAY YOU ARTICULATE YOURSELVES, EVEN JUST IN PASSING WHEN WE'RE THERE.

YOU DO PHENOMENAL WORK.

I HOPE YOU ALL KNOW YOU'RE A PART OF SOMETHING REALLY SPECIAL AND WE WANT TO KEEP THIS GOING, WANT TO KEEP IT GROWING.

FANTASTIC WORK. THIS IS SO COOL.

YES, PLEASE I GO BACK.

>> I KNOW PROJECT-BASED LEARNING IS FAIRLY NEW IN OUR COMMUNITY.

THERE'S MEMBERS OF OUR COMMUNITY WHO ARE MAYBE, YEAH, I DON'T KNOW IF THIS IS THE RIGHT THING FOR MY STUDENTS.

I NEVER DID IT. IT'S UNFAMILIAR.

BUT YOU GUYS HAVE TAKEN A RISK AND THE FACT THAT THINGS THAT I WROTE DOWN LEADING BUT NOT TAKING OVER, LISTENING WITH PATIENCE, LEARNING FROM TEACHING AND LEARNING IN DIFFERENT GRADE LEVELS.

THESE ARE 21ST CENTURY SKILLS.

THESE ARE WHAT EMPLOYERS ARE LOOKING FOR IN YOU IN THE FUTURE.

THE FACT THAT YOU'RE DOING THIS AS MIDDLE SCHOOLERS, I CAN'T IMAGINE ANY BETTER ADVERTISEMENT FOR PROJECT-BASED LEARNING AND WHAT YOU GUYS HAVE LEARNED AND DEMONSTRATED.

I JUST CAN'T TELL YOU HOW PROUD I AM OF YOU GUYS.

I HOPE OUR BROADER COMMUNITY IS LISTENING AND IT'S JUST AS IMPRESSED AND AMAZED AND BOUGHT INTO PROJECT-BASED LEARNING SERIOUS WAY READY TO GO.

>> WHO NEEDS GOOGLE WHEN I'VE GOT THIS?

>> I KNOW.

>> IT'S LIKE ONE-STOP SHOP OF EVERYTHING CAMAS AND YOU REALLY DID A GREAT JOB OF ACTUALLY INTERVIEWING SOME KEY INDIVIDUALS AND PICKING UP ON SMALL THINGS THAT MAKE CAMAS GREAT.

>> RESTAURANT REVIEWS.

>> I'M JUST GOING TO SAY IT FOR OUR MEDIA OUT THERE THAT'S LISTENING, LOCAL MEDIA POSTS, REACH OUT.

THIS IS SUPER COOL. I WANT TO SPREAD THIS FAR AND WIDE. GREAT WORK.

>> WE'RE REALLY PROUD OF YOU.

>> YES. [APPLAUSE] FEEL FREE TO DISTRIBUTE LITERATURE.

YES [LAUGHTER] [BACKGROUND] WE ARE GOING TO KEEP MOVING THINGS ALONG HERE TO OUR NEXT STUDENT REPORT.

THANK YOU. WE'RE GOING TO MOVE ON TO OUR NEXT STUDENT REPORT.

THIS ONE IS FROM ELUM AND KARA FROM LIBERTY MIDDLE SCHOOL.

>> HI, MY NAME IS ELUM.

>> MY NAME IS KARA.

>> LET'S GET STARTED. ON SEPTEMBER 29TH, LIBERTY ASB WENT TO AWSO FOR LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE AT THE HALO MIDDLE SCHOOL.

[00:20:03]

LIBERTY WAS ONE OF THE DOZEN MIDDLE SCHOOLS FROM THE AREA TO COME TOGETHER AND LEARN SKILLS FROM EACH OTHER.

THIS IS AN OPPORTUNITY FOR STUDENTS TO PRACTICE THEIR LEADERSHIP SKILLS AND SHARE IDEAS WITH OTHER MIDDLE SCHOOLS ON THINGS THAT THEY HAVE DONE AT THEIR SCHOOL THAT HAVE IMPACTED THEIR SCHOOL AND CLIMATE AND CULTURE.

THIS IS LIBERTY, SEVENTH OR EIGHTH TIME ATTENDING THIS EVENT IN THE PAST TENURE.

>> IN COMING SPIRIT WEEK, OCTOBER 2ND THROUGH 6TH, LIBERTY PARTICIPATED UP WITH CHS TO PARTICIPATE IN THEIR HOMECOMING SPIRIT WEEK DURING THE FIRST WEEK OF OCTOBER.

ONE WAY TO HELP STUDENTS PARTICIPATE IN THIS ACTIVITY WAS TO TRY TO GIVE THEM AN EASIER ALTERNATIVE TO THE SPIRIT DAY THEME.

AS AN EXAMPLE, DURING HOMECOMING SPIRIT WEEK, WE HAD A PAJAMA DAY ON MONDAY.

THE ALTERNATIVE WAS THAT A STUDENT COULD WEAR GRAY.

EACH DAY HAD AN ALTERNATIVE LIKE THIS.

THAT WAS CAMAS SCHOOL COLORS.

THE STUDENT COULD PARTICIPATE IN THIS WAY SO THAT THERE WAS MORE.

>> LIBERTY'S BLACK THEME WAS ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL EVENT.

WELL, OVER 100 THAT COMPETING IN OUR DISTRICT BLACK EVENT ON TUESDAY, OCTOBER 10TH.

WE HAD PEERS FIRST PLACE FINISHES AND SCHOOL RECORDS THIS YEAR.

BOYS CROSS-COUNTRY HAPPENED AT THE SAME TIME, A STRIKE AND THE TEAM CONTINUED TO IMPROVE THROUGHOUT THE SEASON.

>> IT'S OCTOBER. LIBERTY IS HAVING A FUNDRAISER TO BRING DONATIONS OF NEW SOCKS, NEW UNDERWEAR, NEW DIAPERS AND GENTLY USED COATS, PANTS, SHIRTS, HATS, GLOVES AND SCARVES TO BE DONATED TO THOSE IN NEED IN OUR AREA.

WE CURRENTLY HAVE OVER 700 ITEMS DONATED AND ARE SEEKING TO GET OVER 1,000 ITEMS DONATED BY THE END OF THE FUNDRAISER, OCTOBER 31ST.

>> WITH OUR NEW SCHEDULE, LIBERTY ASB, HAS DECIDED THAT EACH ONLY RELEASE WILL BE A SPIRIT DAY EACH MONTH.

IT GIVES US STUDENTS A FUN WAY TO CONNECT WITH OTHERS AND FEEL THAT THEY'RE PART OF THE SCHOOL COMMUNITY, ON A DAY WHERE WE ARE ONLY TOGETHER FOR A SHORTER AMOUNT OF TIME.

LAST WEEK ON WEDNESDAY, WE HAD DRESSED LIKE A TEACHER DAY OR WEAR JEANS.

MANY OF THE STAFF USE THIS AS AN OPPORTUNITY TO DESELECT STUDENTS, WHICH THE STAFF FOUND EXTREMELY FUNNY.

>> PLAY SOCCER AND GIRLS VOLLEYBALL SEASONS HAVE STARTED, AND WE HAVE HAD A TREMENDOUS TURNOUT IN TERMS OF THE NUMBER OF STUDENTS LOOKING TO PARTICIPATE.

>> THIS FRIDAY, OCTOBER 27TH, ASB IS HOSTING A HARVEST BEST AT LIBERTY FROM 5:30-7:30 PM, THE 70S FOR ALL AGES OF STUDENTS AND FAMILIES.

WE WILL HAVE GAMES TO PLAY WITH PRIZES, SPOOKY HALLWAY, AND THE FIRST HOCUS POCUS, PLAYING IN OUR COMMENTS WITH CONCESSIONS ON FOR SALE.

THIS IS OUR FIRST TIME ATTENDING THIS EVENT WITH THESE ACTIVITIES, SO WE'RE EXCITED TO SEE IT.

>> NEXT WEEK WE HAVE ANOTHER SPIRIT WEEK.

MONDAY BEING YOUR GRADE, YOUR COLOR.

EACH GRADE HAS TWO COLORS TO WEAR.

TUESDAY IS COSTUME SPIRIT DAY, WHERE WE ASK THAT COSTUMES MUST BE CULTURALLY APPROPRIATE, STILL MEETING OUR SCHOOL'S DRESS CODE.

WEDNESDAY IS WACKY HAIR OR WACKY SOCKS DAY.

THURSDAY SPIRIT DAY IS INSPIRED BY CAMAS HIGH SCHOOL HAVING DONE THIS IN THE PAST, IT'S CALLED ADAM SANDLER VERSUS TAYLOR SWIFT.

ON THIS DAY YOU DRESS LIKE ONE OF THESE FAMOUS CELEBRITIES.

FINALLY, IF FRIDAY IS SPORTS DAY OR WEAR LIBERTY COLORS.

>> DURING THE SPIRIT WEEK, STUDENTS WILL WORK DURING LUNCHES TO COMPLETE OUR POWER OF YOU.

STUDENTS CREATE A TEAM AN ORDERED LEAVES FOR EVERY STUDENT AND STAFF MEMBER IN OUR BUILDING.

OUR HOPE IS FOR STUDENTS TO SIGN THEIR NAME ON A LEAF AND HELP US COMPLETE OUR SCHOOL.

WE WANT STUDENTS AND STAFF TO KNOW THAT WE ARE A PART OF THIS COMMUNITY AND WE'RE ALL GROWING BETTER TOGETHER.

EACH PERSON HAS THE POWER TO MAKE THEIR SCHOOL AND COMMUNITY A BETTER PLACE.

THE FINAL PRODUCT WILL BE DISPLAYED IN THE COMMENTS OR IN THE MAIN LOBBY OFFERS.

>> NOVEMBER KICKS OFF OUR STAFF, THE BEST FUNDRAISER AND THE CFSP.

WE SEEK TO COLLECT NON-PERISHABLE FOOD ITEMS AS A DISTRICT TO HELP OUT FAMILIES IN NEED.

IN THE PAST, WE HAVE DONATED OVER 1,000 FOOD ITEMS AT LIBERTY.

THIS YEAR WE HOPE TO SET A NEW RECORD AT THIS GREAT CAUSE.

IF ANY OF YOU WOULD LIKE TO DONATE, PLEASE CONSIDER DONATING TO LIBERTY.

>> OUR VETERANS DAY ASSEMBLY WILL BE HELD ON WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 8TH THIS YEAR.

LIBERTY'S ASB IS HAVING STUDENTS COLOR GUARD ARE DISPLAYED DURING THE ASSEMBLY AS LARGER OF VETERANS TO HONOR FROM OUR COMMUNITY AND OUR BANDS AND FIRES PERFORMING.

BEFORE THE ASSEMBLY, WE HAVE INVITED VETERANS TO COME IN FOR SOME COFFEE, EAT AND TREATS BEFORE ATTENDING THE ASSEMBLY AS OUR VIP.

>> MONDAY, NOVEMBER 31ST, IT'S WORLD KINDNESS DAY TO CELEBRATE ASB STUDENTS DESIGNED A DOOR DECORATING CONTEST FOR CLASSES TO REPRESENT ONE OF THE ESSENTIAL CHARACTERISTICS OR THEIR CLASSROOM.

STUDENTS IN THOSE CLASSES WILL DECORATE THE DOORS AND HANG THEM UP.

ADMIN AND THE OFFICE STAFF WILL BE THE JUDGES,

[00:25:01]

AND WE'LL SELECT THE WINNERS, ONE FROM EACH GRADE LEVEL, AND THEN REVEAL THOSE ORDER OF THE THREE WINNERS.

THE WINNING CLASSES WILL HAVE AN OPTION AS WHAT THEIR PRIZE WILL BE, INCLUDING A POPCORN PARTY, A DOUGHNUT PARTY, VIP SEATING AT THE NEW NEXT ASSEMBLY, OR THREE-PRIME TICKETS.

>> FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 17TH WILL BE LIBERTY'S FIRST DANCE AND SOCIAL OF THE YEAR.

YOU'RE CALLING IT FALLS SOCIAL AND THEMES TO DRESS UP IN FALL COLORS.

WE WILL HAVE SPORTS ACTIVITIES AT THE MAIN GYM AND ART STATION, DANCING AND DJ IN OUR BACK GYM AS WELL AS CONCESSIONS FOR SALE.

THIS SOCIAL WILL BE FROM 3:45-5:45 PM.

>> LIBERTY ASB IS LOOKING TO CONTINUE OUR TRADITION OF HAVING WINTER WISHES FROM ASB.

STUDENTS FILL OUT FORMS DURING LUNCHES AND CAN REQUEST SIMPLE ITEMS SUCH AS CANDY OR SNACKS, TOYS, BOOKS, SPIRIT WEAR, OR EVEN CLASS ACTIVITIES OR TEACHER REQUESTS.

IN THE PAST, STUDENTS HAVE WISHED FOR A CLASSROOM MOVIE DURING LUNCH, BUYING A TEACHER IN THE BASS, PLAYING GAMES WITH STAFF MEMBERS AND MORE.

ASP THEN ASKS TEACHERS AND ASB FAMILIES TO HELP PURCHASE ANY SUPPLIES THAT STUDENTS HAVE ASKED FOR.

ASP GATHERS ALL THE ITEMS, WRAPS THEM, AND DELIVERS THEM TO THE STUDENTS DURING ONE WEEK.

ASP KNOWS THAT NOT ALL STUDENTS CELEBRATE THE HOLIDAYS IN DECEMBER, AND THAT NOT ALL STUDENTS RECEIVE GIFTS DURING THIS TIME.

THIS IS OUR WAY TO SHOW STUDENTS THAT WE CARE ABOUT THEM IN OUR SCHOOL.

THANK YOU [APPLAUSE]

>> THANK YOU, BUT I LOVE WHEN YOU COME AND DO THE PRESENTATIONS.

ONE THING THAT REALLY STANDS OUT TO ME WHEN YOU'RE DOING THESE IS HOW INCLUSIVE YOU ARE WITH THE ACTIVITIES THAT YOUR ASB PUTS TOGETHER.

I THINK THAT'S FANTASTIC.

THE ALTERNATIVES AND IT'S EXACTLY WHAT WE WANT. THANK YOU FOR THAT.

>> ESPECIALLY GOING TO COMPLIMENT YOU ON INSTEAD OF DANCES, IT'S A SOCIAL BECAUSE NOT EVERYBODY WANTS TO GO AND DANCE, BUT THEY WANT TO GET TOGETHER AND BE SOCIAL.

AGAIN, WITH THAT INCLUSIVITY WAY TO GO AND I LOVE YOUR REPORTS, YOU GUYS DO A REALLY THOROUGH JOB. I APPRECIATE IT.

>> I ALSO LOVE YOUR REPORTS AND GREAT JOB ON YOUR PUBLIC SPEAKING TO BOTH OF YOU AS WELL.

YOU GUYS HAVE A LOT OF SPIRIT WEEKS AND I HOPEFULLY YOU'RE GETTING A LOT OF PARTICIPATION.

I LOVE THAT YOU TAGGED ON WITH CAMAS HIGH SCHOOL AND THE HOMECOMING WEEK.

I KNOW WHAT OUR FOOTBALL GAME THIS PAST HOMECOMING, WE HAVE REPRESENTATION FROM ALL THE SCHOOLS AT THE HALFTIME EVENT, WHICH WAS FABULOUS, SO GREAT JOB.

>> GREAT JOB. JUST A QUICK QUESTION.

THINGS LIKE THE LIBERTY CODE DRIVE INSIGHT, IS THAT ADVERTISED SOMEWHERE OR DO I HAVE TO GO TO LIBERTY WEBSITE TO FIND THAT?

>> YEAH. OCTOBER IS JUST TO LIBERTY THING SO YOU'D HAVE TO GO TO OUR WEBSITE.

>> I SEE.

>> IT'S GOING ON RIGHT NOW. OCTOBER.

>> WE CAN DROPLETS. BUT ANYBODY CAN PARTICIPATE AND JUST DROP DONATIONS OFF AT LIBERTY?

>> SURE.

>> THANK YOU. PLUG FOR OCTOBER.

>> THANK YOU BOTH VERY MUCH [APPLAUSE] OUR NEXT STUDENT REPORT IS SIMONE FROM DISCOVERY HIGH SCHOOL [APPLAUSE]

>> HELLO. MY NAME IS SIMONE COLLIN.

I'M A SENIOR AT DISCOVERY HIGH SCHOOL.

I'M ALSO THE ASB PRESIDENT.

I'M GOING TO GIVE A QUICK ASB OVERVIEW AND THEN WE'RE GONNA GET INTO OUR CLUB ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR THIS YEAR.

WE HAVE A FALL DANCE AND SOCIAL BOTH COMING UP NOVEMBER 4TH.

IT'S OUR HARVEST TOP.

IT'S VERY FALL-THEMED.

WE TRY VERY HARD NOT TO MAKE IT HALLOWEEN OR THANKSGIVING, JUST A GENERAL FALL ATMOSPHERE.

WE ALSO HAVE A SPIRIT WEEK, NEXT WEEK SPEAKING OF SPIRIT WEEKS.

AGAIN, VERY NON-DENOMINATIONAL.

NEXT, AFTER OUR FALL DANCE IS GOING TO BE OUR WINTER DANCE, WHICH IS MOSTLY PLANNED BY OUR SOPHOMORES.

WE HAVE A COUPLE OF FUNDRAISERS COMING UP IN DECEMBER THAT NEED MORE FLESHING OUT, SO I WON'T GET INTO THEM RIGHT NOW.

AT DISCOVERY, WE HAVE SEVERAL CLUBS THAT OUR ASB APPROVED, WHICH JUST MEANS THEY GET FUNDING FROM OUR ASB.

THAT'S OUR GSA YEARBOOK DISCO SALES, WHICH HAS OUR STUDENTS' STORE.

THEN WE HAVE TWO NEW CLUBS ARE ART CLUB AND THEN THE MATH CLUB.

I'M GOING TO PASS IT OFF TO THEM UNLESS YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT WHAT I JUST TALKED ABOUT.

>> GOOD EVENING. MY NAME IS JACK WALSH.

I AM THE FOUNDER OF THE MATH CLUB AND I'M A JUNIOR AT DISCOVERY HIGH SCHOOL.

AS A STUDENT AT DISCOVERY, MY ABILITIES AS A LEARNER HAVE GROWN TREMENDOUSLY AND I FEEL VERY PRIVILEGED TO ATTEND SUCH A UNIQUE SCHOOL.

[00:30:02]

IN MY MATH CLASS, STUDENTS WORK COLLABORATIVELY AND LEARN TOGETHER SO MUCH DIFFERENTLY FROM EVERYONE ELSE.

AND THEY COME INTO THE CLASSROOM WITH A FEELING OF ENTHUSIASM THAT YOU WOULD NEVER SEE IN ANY OTHER HIGH SCHOOL.

HOWEVER, I SOMETIMES FEEL LIKE THE TALENTS OF MY SCHOOL ARE OFTEN OVERSHADOWED BY ITS SMALL STUDENT POPULATION.

MY INCREDIBLE MATH TEACHER, MR. LANKA, UNFORTUNATELY CANNOT ATTEND TONIGHT, FEELS THE SAME WAY.

MR. LANKA HAS BEEN A HUGE ADVOCATE FOR SHOWING EVERYONE IN OUR COMMUNITY HOW SKILLED DISCOVERY STUDENTS ARE AS LEARNERS AND AS MATH-ORIENTED THINKERS.

IN THE SPRING OF LAST YEAR, MR. LANKA FOUND THE OPPORTUNITY TO TAKE A GROUP OF STUDENTS TO A LOCAL MATH COMPETITION AGAINST OTHER HIGH SCHOOLS IN THE AREA AT WSU VANCOUVER.

11 STUDENTS ATTENDED, AND WITHOUT EVEN HAVING AN ORGANIZED MATH CLUB OR TEAM, OUR SCHOOLS STILL TOOK SECOND PLACE IN ONE OF THE EVENTS.

A STRONG SHOWING, IN MY OPINION, AS OUR SCHOOL WAS WOEFULLY UNPREPARED COMPARED TO THE OTHER HIGH-SCHOOL SUCH AS SKYVIEW AND HOPKINSON, WHO HAD THEIR OWN MATH CLUBS DEDICATED TO PRACTICING FOR THESE KINDS OF COMPETITIONS.

ARE THERE THIS YEAR, MR. LANKA WASN'T GET INVITED TO THIS COMPETITION, BUT THINGS WENT A BIT DIFFERENT, 28 STUDENTS, INCLUDING MYSELF, TOOK THE TIME TO MISS SOME SCHOOL AND GO TO THE COMPETITION.

WE DID THE MATH OBVIOUSLY, THAT IS NEARLY 15% OF OUR SCHOOL, THAT'S 300 CHS STUDENTS SKIPPING SOME SCHOOL TO GO TO A COMPETITION.

WE BROUGHT HOME A FEW MORE AWARDS THIS YEAR, INCLUDING FIRST-PLACE FOR ONE OF OUR TEAMS. LOGAN ROBINSON, WHO WAS SENDING OUT MY SIDE, WON FIRST PLACE IN THE ENTIRE STATE OF WASHINGTON [APPLAUSE].

OUR PERFORMANCE AT THOSE TWO MEETS AS GIVEN OUR SCHOOL A LOT OF PRIDE, BUT WE KNOW WE CAN DO MUCH BETTER.

WHEN I WAS A SOPHOMORE LAST YEAR, MR. LOGO CONSTANTLY MENTIONED THE IDEA OF FORMING AN ACTUAL MATH CLUB THAT DISCOVERY, I FELL IN LOVE WITH THIS, AND I'VE SPENT THE LAST FEW MONTHS WORKING TOWARDS MAKING THIS HAPPEN.

ALLOW ME TO SHARE WITH YOU WHAT WE DO HERE AT DISCOVERY DURING MATH CLUB.

CLUB MEETINGS WOULD OCCUR FOR 1 HOUR AFTER SCHOOL, TWO TIMES A MONTH.

DURING THESE MEETINGS, CLUB MEMBERS WOULD WORK TOGETHER TO SOLVE COMPLEX PROBLEMS THAT REQUIRE A LOT OF DEEP THINKING.

AN EXAMPLE OF THIS IS THE 3D TIC TAC TOE PROBLEM, ESSENTIALLY, YOU HAVE A GAME OF TIC-TAC-TOE THAT'S BEING PLAYED VERTICALLY AND HORIZONTALLY.

THE GOAL OF THIS PUZZLE IS TO SOLVE FOR THE TOTAL AMOUNT OF WINNING POSSIBILITIES FOR EITHER SIDE.

THIS CHALLENGE IS A STRUGGLE FOR EVEN THE GREATEST MATHEMATICIANS, IT TAKES A LOT OF WORK EVEN MR. ALONZO, WHEN WE WORKED ON THIS, STRUGGLED A BIT.

BEATINGS WOULD ALSO BE UTILIZED TO HELP OUR SCHOOL PRACTICE AND PREPARE FOR MORE LOCAL MATH COMPETITIONS THAN WE'VE EVER BEEN TO BEFORE.

IN FACT, WE'VE ALREADY SIGNED UP AND CONFIRMED OUR SCHOOL FOR MATH CONTESTS AT SKYVIEW, LET'S JUST TWO DAYS AWAY.

I HOPE I'VE YOU CONVINCED OF HOW DEDICATED OUR STUDENTS ARE TO BECOMING BETTER MATHEMATICIANS WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED BY ALL OF US IF YOU WOULD CONSIDER OUR CLUB. THANK YOU.

[APPLAUSE]

>> IT'S ME AGAIN. I MENTIONED THAT WE HAVE AT ART CLUBS STARTING UP, WHICH WE DO.

NO REPRESENTATIVES FROM THEM ARE HERE, BUT THEY SHOULD HOPEFULLY BE AT THE NEXT BOARD MEETING TO GET APPROVAL FROM WHAT I KNOW THEIR GOAL IS TO WORK ON CREATIVE EXPRESSION AS A STUDENT BODY, WHICH IS ONE OF THE THINGS THAT WE REALLY FOCUSED ON ART DISCOVERY IS UNIQUENESS AND MAKING SURE EVERYONE HAS SPACE TO EXPRESS THEMSELVES FOR EXACTLY WHO THEY ARE AND WHO THEY WANT TO BE.

OUR TEACHER IS ALSO WONDERFUL.

MS. MOORE, SHE IS NOT NEW THIS YEAR, SHE WAS A LONG-TERM SUB LAST YEAR, BUT NOW SHE'S OUR OFFICIAL ART TEACHER, SHE'S FANTASTIC.

WE'RE HOPING TO EXPAND THAT PROGRAM AND AGAIN, THEY SHOULD BE HERE NEXT TIME.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR TIME.

[APPLAUSE].

>> QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS FROM THE BOARD.

>> I WILL SAY THANK YOU FOR THAT, THAT'S FANTASTIC.

I HAD NO IDEA WE WERE AMONG THE FIRST PLACE FINISHER.

CONGRATULATIONS, THAT'S FANTASTIC. I WILL SAY.

WE ACTUALLY, THE MATH CLUB AND THE ART CLUB ARE ACTUALLY PART OF OUR CONSENT AGENDA TONIGHT, AND SO WE DO HAVE PAPERWORK FOR THAT AND BARRING ANY I DON'T WANT TO GET AHEAD OF THE BOARD, BUT BARRING ANY DELIBERATIONS WILL HAVE, I THINK YOU'RE GOOD THERE.

THANK YOU, I REALLY APPRECIATE IT.

>> EXCUSE ME, COREY.

>> YEAH.

>> DO YOU BELIEVE WE HAVE STUDENTS ABOUT WITH THE MATH CLUB AND ART CLUB WHO WANT TO SPEAK?

>> THEY JUST DID. THAT'S OKAY. THAT'S ALL RIGHT.

SO THAT MOVES US DOWN TO ITEM D, WHICH IS A REPORT FROM LORELEI AND JESSE FROM CAMAS HIGH SCHOOL.

>> HI, I'M MARLYN MCCARTHY AND I'M CAMAS HIGH SCHOOL ASB PRESIDENT.

>> HI, I'M JESSE CHASE AND I'M CAMAS HIGH SCHOOL ASB VICE PRESIDENT.

TO START OFF THE YEAR STRONG WITH HOMECOMING, WE HAD A CASINO THEME.

WE SOLD OVER 1,300 TICKETS,

[00:35:02]

AND WE HAD EACH HIGH-SCHOOL REPRESENTED AND SO THERE ARE MULTIPLE PEOPLE FROM DISCOVERY AND HAZE THAT ALSO ATTENDED, WHICH IS REALLY AWESOME.

THEN WITH THAT, WE HAD OUR SPIRIT WEEK, WHICH ALL HAD DIFFERENT OPTIONS SO THAT EVERYONE COULD BE INCLUDED AND IT HAD A REALLY GOOD TURNOUT.

THEN FINALLY, RIGHT BEFORE HOMECOMING FOOTBALL GAME, WE HAD 11 OUT OF 13 SCHOOLS REPRESENTED AT THE HALFTIME SHOW AND WE ALSO HAD OUR ROYALTY RUNNING THROUGH WITH TRUCKS, WHICH IS REALLY COOL.

>> ACTUALLY, JUST ON FRIDAY NIGHT, WE HAD A MOVIE NIGHT FOR OUR SCHOOL, IT WAS EXPENSIVE.

SORRY. THE SIXTH SENSE WAS THE MOVIE AND IT WAS LIKE A SCARY MOVIE THAT WE, I'M DEAD RIGHT AFTER THE FOOTBALL GAME BECAUSE THERE'S A FOOTBALL GAME OVER AT MCKINSEY STATE INVERSE UNION.

WE WENT AND HAD A MOVIE NIGHT AFTER IT, AND THEN WE GOT A LOT OF PARTICIPATION, ENDED UP TURNING OUT REALLY GREAT, WE SAW A LOT OF CONCESSIONS AND I THINK ENDED UP RUNNING OUT OF MOST OF THEM BECAUSE A LOT OF PEOPLE END UP GOING, I REALLY END UP BEING A FUN EVENT FOR OUR SCHOOL.

>> LEADERSHIP ALSO DOES DOOR GREETINGS EVERY MORNING AT EACH OF THE THREE MAIN AGENCIES IS THAT PEOPLE GO THROUGH AND IT HAS REALLY POSITIVE FEEDBACK FROM THE STUDENTS THAT WALK IN SEEING A FAMILIAR FACE EVERY MORNING AND IT ALSO JUST BRIGHTENS THE MOOD WHEN IT'S TOO EARLY TO BE AWAKE.

>> MOVING ON TO OUR SPORTS, ALL LOVE OUR SPORTS EXCEPT FOR SOFTBALL, SUPER SOFT BALL, MOVING ON TO THE NEXT LEVEL AND THEY'RE GOING TO GO PLAY AT DISTRICTS.

OUR GIRLS SOCCER TEAM AND OUR GIRLS VOLLEYBALL TEAM ARE BOTH UNDEFEATED THIS SEASON, SO WE'RE REALLY EXCITED TO SUPPORT THEM COMING UP POST-SEASON.

WE'RE PLANNING ON DOING ROUTER BUSES TO SUPPORT THEM OFF GOING ONTO DISTRICTS AND THEN HOPEFULLY STATE AND WE HAVE A LOT OF FUN THING LIKE SEND-OFF PLAN FOR ALL OF OUR SPORTS TEAMS.

>> WE'VE ALSO APPROVED A COUPLE OF CLUBS THIS YEAR, WE HAVE THE HAM RADIO CLUB THAT OUR ASB IS APPROVED, AND THEN ALSO THE TRAIL STEWARDS CLUB, WHICH GOES AROUND CAMAS, INTENDING TO CLEAN UP TRAILS AND SO THAT HAS BEEN APPROVED BY OUR ASB.

THEN WE ALSO ARE LOOKING INTO QUITE A FEW OTHER CLUBS THAT ARE POTENTIALLY GOING TO BE LIKE WANTING TO.

>> CAMAS HIGH SCHOOL IS A PRETTY BIG DECA, I BELIEVE THEY HAVE OVER 300 STUDENTS THIS YEAR PARTICIPATING AND SO THEY DID AN ALL HANDS ON DECK, WHICH IS TO RAISE MONEY AND DOWNTOWN CAMAS AND IT ENDS UP BEING A HUGE, GREAT TURNOUT.

THEY HAD A LOT OF VENDORS DOWN THERE AND IT WAS JUST A SUPER FUN EVENT.

IN TOTAL, THEY RAISED OVER $12,000 AND THEIR DOG MAYOR ARCHIE, RAISED AT $2,675 ALONE, END UP BEING A REALLY GREAT FUNDRAISER FOR DECA.

>> WE'VE HEARD THAT WE SWITCHED FOOD SYSTEMS AND VENDORS AND SO WE WANTED TO GIVE A QUICK FOOD REVIEW FOR YOU GUYS.

WE'VE NOTICED THAT A LOT OF PEOPLE HAVE MUCH MORE POSITIVE REVIEWS ON THE FOOD AND THEN WE'VE ALSO HEARD FROM ALL OF THE KITCHEN STAFF AND THAT TYPE OF THING THAT THERE'S A LOT MORE PREP AND SO THERE'S A LOT MORE TIME THAT THEY'RE PUTTING INTO IT.

BUT I BELIEVE THAT THE STUDENTS CAN TELL QUITE A BIT AND SO I'D SAY IT'S A BIG POSITIVE FOR OVERALL.

>> JUST AT THE END OF SEPTEMBER, WE HAD A CLUB FAIR WHERE ALL THE DIFFERENT CLUBS COULD GO OUT DURING THE LUNCHES AND THEN WE HAVE TWO LUNCHES, SO DURING THE TWO LAUNCHES AND THEY WERE INSIDE OF OUR MAIN COMMONS.

THEY DECIDE TO TABLE, THEY'RE ADVERTISING FOR THEIR CLUB AND STUFF AND IT ENDED UP BEING A HUGE SUPPORT FOR EACH OF THE CLUBS.

I NOTICED LIKE BEING IN A FEW CLUBS THAT I'M GOING TO THESE CLUBS AND THERE ARE SO MANY MORE PEOPLE INVOLVED IN THESE CLUBS, SO IT'S COOL TO SEE MORE INVOLVEMENT.

>> I BELIEVE LAST WEDNESDAY, JUST RECENTLY HAD A FINANCIAL AID NIGHT AND SO SPREADING MORE INFORMATION TO ALL OF THE JUNIORS AND SENIORS AND ANYONE LOOKING TO GO TO ANY TYPE OF COLLEGE TO LOOK INTO WHAT FINANCIAL AID THEY CAN GET AND ALL THOSE TYPES OF BIG DECISIONS THAT THEY'RE MAKING TO HELP SPREAD MORE INFORMATION THAT THEY MIGHT NOT HAVE HAD BEFORE.

>> UPCOMING WE HAVE A FEW EVENTS, WE HAVE RED CROSS BLOOD DRIVE, WHICH IS DURING THE SCHOOL DAY, AND THAT GETS A LOT OF PARTICIPATION.

WE HAVE THE UNSOLVED, UNSHELTERED DRIVE, WHICH IS RUN BY NHS KEY CLUB, RED CROSS AND INTERACT CLUB AND THAT'S WHERE THEY BRING IN ALL OF THESE SUPPLIES NEEDED FOR LIKE TOOTHPASTE AND TALKS AND CLOTHES AND ALL THAT STUFF.

I BELIEVE IT'S ALSO IN COMPETITION WITH UNION, SO THAT'S A FUN LITTLE THING BETWEEN THE TWO SCHOOLS AND THEN WE ALSO HAVE A PLAY, MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM, WHICH IS COMING UP, AND THEN WINTER SPORTS OBVIOUSLY BEGINNING SO.

>> THEN UPCOMING WE HAVE STUFFED THE BUS STARTING WHICH CHS LEADERSHIP IS COORDINATING AND IT'S A REALLY BIG FUN DRIVE FOR ALL THE FOODS THAT WE CAN GIVE TO DIFFERENT COMMUNITIES AROUND US SO THAT IT CAN BE SPREAD TO PEOPLE IN NEED IN OUR VICINITY AND EVERY SCHOOLS INVOLVED.

IT'S AWESOME, ESPECIALLY WHEN WE ALL GET TO GO NEAR THE END, CLOSER TO WINTER BREAK WHERE WE ALL GET TO GO COLLECT FOOD FROM THOSE DIFFERENT SCHOOLS AND SEE BIG CAMAS UNITY AROUND HELPING THOSE AROUND US.

>> AND THE LAST THING WE HAVE IS OUR VETERANS DAY ASSEMBLY, WHICH WE'RE PLANNING WE'RE HAVING ON NOVEMBER 9TH AND WE'RE REALLY EXCITED TO HAVE A BUNCH OF TEACHERS REPRESENTED.

INSTEAD OF HAVING LIKE BRINGING IN A SPEAKER, ALL OF OUR TEACHERS ARE ACTUALLY GOING TO SPEAK AND HAVE A LITTLE BLURB,

[00:40:02]

WHICH WE THINK WILL BE VERY POWERFUL.

BUT JUST FOR THE STUDENTS HAVING THEIR OWN TEACHER, LIKE SAY SOME THINGS THAT WE'RE REALLY EXCITED ABOUT THAT.

THEN WE ALSO ARE BRINGING IN A COLOR GUARD THAT WE GOT, SO WE'RE REALLY EXCITED ABOUT THAT.

THAT'S IT. [LAUGHTER].

>> THANK YOU. GO AHEAD.

>> A REALLY DUMB QUESTION.

I'VE BEEN AROUND AWHILE AND STUFF THE BUS AND DO YOU GUYS LITERALLY PUT CANNED FOODS ON A BUS AND STUFF IT OR IS IT JUST YEAH, I DIDN'T KNOW, I KNOW PROBABLY STARTED THAT WAY BUT I DIDN'T KNOW.

>> YOU ALL. YEAH. YEAH. IT'S SUPER LIGHT AND IT USUALLY SPILLS INTO THE BUSES.

>> YES. YOU STUFF THE BUS SOUNDS A LOT BETTER THAN STUFF THAT YOU CALL.

>> IT'S A BIG WORKOUT DAY.

>> WHAT DATE DOES THAT HAPPEN ACTUALLY?

>> DECEMBER 1ST, I THINK. IT RUNS ON ALL THE ELEMENTARY [OVERLAPPING]

>> SCHOOL. THEN WE GO AROUND.

>> YOU STOP THE BUS?

>> YEAH, WE'RE BACK. HE LITERALLY STOP THE BUS.

THE SCHOOL IS WE COLLECT ALL THE FOOD, THE BAND THAT THE FIRE.

THE CHARGES ARE ALSO THINKING ABOUT BRINGING IT TO A COUPLE OF DIFFERENT PLACES, INCLUDING THE JACKAL AND ROB CENTER FOR FAMILIES.

FAMILIES RIGHT HERE, MAKE IT A BIT MORE ACCESSIBLE AND THEN I BELIEVE THERE'S ALSO DONATIONS THAT CAN BE MADE FROM DIFFERENT BUSINESSES GOING DOWN.

>> AWESOME. THAT'S A GREAT COMMUNITY SERVICE.

>> YEAH. WE DONATE A LOT OF MONEY AS WELL.

>> AWESOME. THANK YOU. OH, SORRY.

FABULOUS REPORT. VERY COMPREHENSIVE.

YOU GUYS HAVE A LOT GOING ON TOO.

I LOVE THE DOOR GRADERS.

THAT'S A GREAT WAY TO SEE THE STUDENTS AS THEY COME IN IN THE MORNING, SO THANK YOU GUYS FOR DOING THAT.

ALSO THE FOOD REVIEW, I LOVE HEARING THAT THE FOOD THAT WE'VE BEEN HEARING A LOT OF THAT, SO I'M VERY HAPPY TO HEAR THAT YOU GUYS ARE HAPPY WITH THE FLOOD AT CAMAS HIGH SCHOOL.

THE CLUBS, THE HAM RADIO CLUB.

I SAW THAT IN THE CONSENT AGENDA TONIGHT AND I THOUGHT, OH, THAT'S AN INTERESTING CLUB THAT I LOVE, THAT THERE'S THE IDEA THAT PEOPLE JUST START CLUBS AND BRING KIDS TOGETHER, SO I LOVE THAT AND ALSO DISCOVERY.

THEY TALKED ABOUT SOME OF THEIR CLUBS NIGHT TOO.

I LOVE WHEN STUDENTS ARE HERE TALKING ABOUT THE CLUBS AND WHAT THEY MEAN TO THEM BECAUSE I LOVE HEARING WHAT'S GOING ON THERE.

DID YOU HAVE A DATE FOR THE BLOOD DRIVE?

>> IT'S THIS THURSDAY.

>> CAN ANYONE GO TO THAT?

>> I BELIEVE AS LONG AS YOU'RE INVOLVED IN THE SCHOOL DISTRICT.

>> GOT IT. THURSDAY. THANK YOU.

>> SORRY. WHAT SINCE WE'RE TALKING DATES AGAIN, YOU HAVE THE DATES AGAIN ARE THE WEEKENDS FOR THE PLAY.

>> THAT IS NOVEMBER, I BELIEVE, 10TH AND 11TH.

>> TENTH AND 11TH.

>> THE KNIFE WELL, BUT YOU'LL HAVE.

>> NINTH, 10TH.

>> WEEKEND, AND THEN I THINK IT WAS THE WEEKEND AFTER.

>> THE WEEKEND AFTER THE WEEKEND.

THANK YOU. ANYTHING ELSE?

>> THANK YOU.

>> WHAT A GREAT REPORT. A FANTASTIC, I LOVE IT.

>> I GUESS, WHICH IS THE COMPETITION WHEN UNION.

>> THAT'S THE UNSHELTERED DRIVE AND SO THEY COLLECT A BUNCH OF HYGIENE NEEDS FOR VETERANS AND NEED, AND SO WE'RE ALSO GOING TO BRING THAT UP AT OUR VETERANS DAY ASSEMBLY AND RECOGNIZE ALL THE DONATIONS MADE.

BUT IT ALL GOES TO VETERANS NEED THAT.

IT'S A COMPETITION AGAINST UNION, BUT IT'S REALLY MORE TO BRING IN MORE AT THAT ARE ABLE TO DONATE.

THEN IT'S [INAUDIBLE] YEAH.

IT ALSO GIVES YOU VOLUNTEER HOURS.

FOR EACH ITEMS DONATED TOWARDS WHATEVER CLUB YOUR HANDS, THAT'S [INAUDIBLE].

>> FINE. THANK YOU.

>> GREAT. THANK YOU SO MUCH.

[APPLAUSE] FOR OUR FINAL STUDENT REPORT, WE HAVE REPRESENTATIVES FROM OUR STUDENT ADVISORY COMMITTEES, SO JUSTIN AND SIMONE, COME ON UP.

SIMONE ARE RETURNING CHAMPION HERE.

[LAUGHTER]

>> HELLO. MY NAME IS JUSTIN.

I'M A NINTH GRADER AT CHS.

>> LIKE YOU ALREADY HEARD, I'M STILL SMELLED.

MY NAME HASN'T CHANGED YET AND I'M A SENIOR AT DISCOVERY HIGH SCHOOL.

>> SO FAR, STUDENT ADVISORY COMMITTEE HAS HAD TWO MEETINGS AND HONESTLY, I THINK THEY'VE GONE REALLY WELL.

WE'VE HAD 25 OF 34 OF OUR STUDENTS ATTENDING RIGHT NOW.

WE HAVE EVERY SECONDARY SCHOOL EXCEPT CCA, LIKE RIGHT NOW REPRESENTED.

WE HAVE STUDENTS ON OUR ADVISORY COMMITTEE THAT INTENSE ECA.

THEY'RE JUST NOT ATTENDING THE MEETINGS YET.

BUT THIS YEAR WE'RE GOING TO CONTINUE OUR WINDOW ZOOM YOUR PROJECTS, STUDENT EXPERIENCES, AND UNITY.

>> YES. LIKE JUSTIN SAID, WE'VE BEGUN WORK ON OUR WINDOWS AND MIRRORS PROJECT WITH THE EXPECTATION OF DELIVERING OUR LESSON TO ALL 25 FIFTH GRADE CLASSROOMS IN

[00:45:03]

OUR ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS WILL BE MEETING WITH THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL ADMINISTRATORS AT OUR NEXT SAC MEETING, WHICH IS NOVEMBER 6, TO DELIVER OUR LESSON TO THEM TO ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS AND START THE SCHEDULING PROCESS.

WHEN DOES IT MIRRORS IS A LESSON FOR FIFTH GRADERS ALL ABOUT THE LABELS WE CARRY OURSELVES AND THE LABELS WE GIVE OTHERS.

IT HOPEFULLY HELPS PREVENT BULLYING JUDGMENTS OF OTHERS AND THEN JUDGMENTS OF OURSELVES, AND IT PUSHES THE MESSAGE THAT EVERYONE IS LOVED AND DESERVES RESPECT, WHICH IS INCREDIBLY IMPORTANT FOR CHILDREN AND ADULTS. THAT'S IT.

>> SORRY. WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO WHEN YOU'RE DOING THE FIFTH GRADE PRESENTATIONS? LIKE DO YOU KNOW LIKE DO YOU HAVE A TARGET, LIKE MONTH? I MEAN, IT SOUNDS LIKE WE.

>> YEAH. WE'RE HOPING BEFORE MAY, BUT WE WANT TO TALK TO PRINCIPALS AND SEE WHAT WORKS FOR THEM AS WELL.

>> IF YOU COULD LET US KNOW, THAT WOULD BE GREAT.

I WOULD LOVE TO SIT ON THAT OR IF YOU VIDEOTAPE ANY OF THEM TO SHARE WITH US.

I THINK I WOULD LOVE TO SEE THAT, BUT GREAT, GREAT JOB.

I ALSO THINK WE'RE GOING TO HAVE SOME BOARD REPRESENTATION ON YOUR STUDENT ADVISORY COMMITTEE IS WHAT WE'VE TALKED ABOUT, SO I THINK I THINK IT'S CONNIE AND I.

BECAUSE I THINK THEY'RE RIGHT BEFORE CITIZENS ADVISORY COMMITTEE, SO WE'RE EXCITED TO START COMING TO SOME OF YOURS THAT WORKS OUT, BUT I THINK THEY'RE RIGHT BEFORE CITIZENS ADVISORY AND I THINK THEY'RE BOTH ON THAT, SO WE'RE EXCITED TO PARTICIPATE IN YOUR COMMITTEE AT THAT IN THAT WAY.

>> THERE'LL BE SOME OTHERS THAT GET A GET A SHOT AT IT TOO.

WE'RE ALL FIGHTING TO GET ON STUDENT ADVISORY COMMITTEE.

THEY JUST GOT FIRST DIBS BECAUSE THEY'RE ALREADY HERE FOR A MEETING, BUT YEAH, WE'RE WE'RE GOING ROTATE THROUGH.

YEAH. ANYTHING ELSE? THANK YOU SO MUCH. APPRECIATE IT.

[APPLAUSE] WOW, WHAT A GREAT NIGHT OF STUDENT REPORTS.

I FEEL GOOD. I FEEL ENERGIZED.

THAT MOVES US DOWN TO ITEM 4 ON THE AGENDA, WHICH IS BOARD COMMUNICATION.

JUST A CHANCE FOR US TO SHARE SOME THOUGHTS AND STUFF WITH EACH OTHER.

I DID WANT TO MENTION DURING BOARD COMMUNICATION RIGHT NOW THAT I'M ERICA COX IS ABSENT TONIGHT.

SHE IS UNDER THE WEATHER, SO I'M HOPING SHE'S BACK AMONG US SOON.

I ALSO JUST WANTED TO GIVE A COUPLE OF PLUGS FOR A COUPLE OF EVENTS THAT WE HAVE COMING UP.

AS YOU GUYS KNOW, WE DO OUR COMMUNITY COFFEE TALKS A FEW TIMES A YEAR, WHICH IS A GREAT OPPORTUNITY FOR COMMUNITY AND STAFF TO COME AND ACTUALLY GET A CHANCE TO HAVE A CONVERSATION WITH US AS OPPOSED TO COMING TO SHARING PUBLIC COMMENT AND THEN HAVING US MOVE ON TO THE NEXT ONE.

SO WE DO THESE A FEW TIMES A YEAR.

OUR FIRST ONE IS COMING UP THIS SATURDAY.

WE HAVE ONE FOR COMMUNITY MEMBERS, FROM 9:00 -11:00 HERE AT THE DISTRICT OFFICE, AND THEN ONE FOR STAFF MEMBERS FROM 1:00 UNTIL 3:00, SO WE WOULD LOVE TO SEE ANYBODY THERE WHO WANTS TO SIT DOWN WITH A CUP OF COFFEE AND JUST HAVE SOME INFORMAL TALK ABOUT HOW THINGS ARE GOING.

AGAIN, THAT'S THIS SATURDAY, THE 28TH, 9:00 TO 11:00 FOR COMMUNITY AND 1:00 TO 3:00 FOR STAFF.

I ALSO WANTED TO GIVE A SHOUT OUT.

I'VE BEEN ATTENDING THE NEW CAMAS MUSIC BOOSTERS, CLUB MEETINGS.

THEY'VE BEEN GETTING ORGANIZED.

THEY'VE ORGANIZED REALLY FAST OVER THE LAST COUPLE OF MONTHS, THE END OF LAST YEAR AND NOW THEY'VE REALLY HIT THE GROUND RUNNING.

THEY HAD A GENERAL MEETING A COUPLE OF A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO THAT I WAS ABLE TO ATTEND.

THEY HAVE THEIR INAUGURAL EVENT COMING UP ON NOVEMBER 3RD, FRIDAY AT 7:00 PM AT GARVER.

THAT IS THEIR TEACHER TALENT SHOWCASE, WHICH IS GOING TO BE A GREAT SHOW.

IT'S EXACTLY WHAT IT SOUNDS LIKE.

IT'S TEACHERS FROM OUR, FROM OUR DISTRICT THAT ARE PUTTING ON A SHOW.

WE'VE GOT SOME PRETTY TALENTED MUSIC EDUCATORS.

COUPLE OF THEM ARE IN THE ROOM RIGHT NOW I SEE, SO I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE THAT.

IT'S FREE ADMISSION AND THEN JUST DONATIONS THERE, SO I HOPE SEVERAL OF US CAN ATTEND AND ALSO A LOT OF THE COMMUNITY MEMBERS AS WELL.

LIKE I SAID, THE MUSIC BOOSTERS HAVE ORGANIZED REALLY FAST AND THERE'S A BIG GROUP OF REALLY PASSIONATE PEOPLE THERE TO SUPPORT ALL OF OUR MUSIC PROGRAMS, K12, WHICH IS FANTASTIC WORK.

HOPE YOU CAN ATTEND THAT. SEND IT DOWN TO YOU GUYS IF THERE'S ANYTHING YOU WANT TO SHARE.

>> JUST A COUPLE OF RELATED THINGS.

I'M BACK ON THE NOMINATING COMMITTEE, SO I'LL BE HELPING OUT WITH THAT.

ALSO THE THE APP FOR THE WISER CONFERENCES OUT, SO IF YOU HAVEN'T DOWNLOADED THE APP, IT HAS ALL THE BREAKOUT SESSIONS IN THERE.

THEN YOU CAN START PLUGGING IN AND SETTING YOUR SCHEDULE FOR THAT COMING UP.

WE'VE BEEN BUSY DOING A LOT OF THINGS AND I KNOW A LOT OF THEM ARE IN DR. ANGELA AND REPORTS, SO I WON'T STEAL YOUR THUNDER ON ALL OF THOSE, BUT WE JUST HAD OUR CITY SCHOOLS MEETING.

CONNIE AND I HOVER ON THAT ONE AND I JUST WANTED TO GIVE A PLUG BECAUSE THERE'S NOT MANY CITIES THAT HAVE THEIR RELATIONSHIP, THE CITY SCHOOLS RELATIONSHIP THAT WE HAVE, AND SO IT'S GREAT TO GET TOGETHER WITH THE LEADERS FROM THE CITY AND THE LEADERS FROM THE SCHOOL DISTRICT AND JUST TALK ABOUT WHAT'S GOING ON BECAUSE WE HAVE SUCH SHARED VALUES AND INTERESTS AND WHAT WE'RE DOING AND SO JUST MAKING SURE WE'RE PARTNERING TOGETHER AND WORKING TOGETHER IN A GOOD WAY SO

[00:50:01]

THAT CITY SCHOOLS RELATIONSHIP WE HAVE IS INVALUABLE.

SO JUST A LITTLE PLUG FOR THAT.

>> YOU HAVE TO GO BACK.

>> I HAD A QUICK GO BACK, SORRY.

THE CAPITAL FACILITIES MEETING IS TOMORROW AT FIVE AND I DON'T THINK CONNIE CAN GO, SO IF YOU WANT TO GO TO THAT COREY.

>> IT'S TOMORROW AT FIVE.

>> IT'S HERE. JASON'S LEADING THAT AND SOME GOOD WORK WILL HAPPEN THERE SO I CAN HAVE BOARDROOM,.

>> I CAN ATTEND THAT, GAYLE, IF YOU DON'T MIND SENDING ME A CALENDAR INVITE FOR THAT JUST TO MAKE SURE I CAN BE THERE.

TOMORROW AT FIVE. OKAY. THANKS.

>> I ATTENDED I THINK ALL THREE OF US ATTENDED WAS IT JUST LAST MONDAY OUR LEGISLATIVE ADVISORY COMMITTEE WHERE IT'S IT'S COMMUNITY MEMBERS WHO HAVE COME TOGETHER LIKE HOW CAN WE HELP ADVOCATE FOR LEGISLATION? AS YOU KNOW, OUR LAST BARGAINING WITH THE FUNDING WE GET FROM OUR DISTRICT, IT ALL STARTS AT THE STATE LEVEL AND WE'RE NOT GETTING ENOUGH OR WE'RE MAKING CUTS AND HAVING TO MAKE REALLY TOUGH DECISIONS THAT AREN'T IN THE BEST INTERESTS OF OUR STUDENTS.

WE NEED TO HELP LEGISLATING, ADVOCATING TO OUR LEGISLATORS.

THERE'S A GROUP OF PEOPLE CAME TOGETHER, SOME OF WHOM ARE IN THIS ROOM RIGHT NOW AND WE HAD SOME DISCUSSIONS AND YOU'LL PROBABLY COVER THIS A LITTLE BIT IN YOUR REPORT AS WELL.

BUT IT JUST WAS A GREAT START TO BROADEN OUR INFLUENCE AND HELP, AND HELP EDUCATE MORE OF OUR COMMUNITY MEMBERS ON WHAT SOME OF THE STRUGGLES ARE AND WHAT WE CAN DO ABOUT IT, HOW WE CAN HELP ENGAGE.

THAT WAS REALLY AWESOME.

ONE OF THE THINGS ABOUT THE CITY SCHOOLS COMMITTEE MEETING THAT YOU AND I TALKED ABOUT BRIEFLY THAT TRACEY BROUGHT UP IS ONE OF THE MEMBERS THERE, MR. DON CHENEY, HE SAID HE WAS INVOLVED IN THE VERY BEGINNING WHERE IT WAS A CONVERSATION WHEN HE WAS A POLICE CHIEF BETWEEN THE SUPERINTENDENT MILT DENNISON, WHO THIS BOARDROOM IS NAMED AFTER, AND HAS GROWN TO THIS COMMITTEE THAT WE HAVE THE MAYOR, WE HAVE COUNCIL MEMBERS, WE HAVE OUR FORMER BOARD MEMBER WHO IS NOW THE CITY ADMINISTRATOR, DOUG QUINN, AND JUST TALKING ABOUT THE DIFFERENT THINGS THAT IMPACT OUR COMMUNITY, EITHER WHAT EDUCATION IS DOING AND HOW IT WILL IMPACT THE CITY, OR WHAT THE CITY IS DOING AND HOW IT WILL IMPACT THE SCHOOLS IS JUST LIKE YOU SAID, A REALLY UNIQUE EXPERIENCE.

I THOUGHT THAT WAS JUST LIKE A REALLY COOL PIECE OF HISTORY THAT YOU SHARED AT THE END.

OTHER THAN THAT, I THINK THAT'S ALL I HAVE.

>> I GOT TO DO SOME FUN THINGS ASIDE FROM THE COMMITTEE MEETINGS.

IT WAS A OCTOBERFEST AT SKYBRIDGE.

IT WAS REALLY NICE TO GO BACK TO THE SCHOOL MY KIDS WENT TO, BUT ALSO TO SEE ALL FAMILIAR FACES.

SEE PERFORMANCES.

I WAS A PERFORMANCE BY THE BAND.

THE JAZZ BAND, IT WAS GREAT.

LOTS OF PEOPLE THAT ATTENDED LOTS OF FAMILIAR FACES TO CATCH UP WITH.

THEN I ALSO GOT TO GO TO THE FAMILY LEARNING NIGHT AT DOROTHY FOX.

THAT WAS PRETTY IMPRESSIVE.

I DON'T OFTEN GET A CHANCE TO GO TO DOROTHY FOX, BUT IT WAS SET UP IN A WAY FOR THE KIDS TO RUN THE ENTIRE THING.

THEY WERE BASICALLY DRAGGING THEIR PARENTS AROUND FROM CLASSROOM TO CLASSROOM, EXCITED TO SHOW THE PARENTS WHAT THEY'VE DONE.

TEACHERS WERE ALL THERE AND WE'RE SO EXCITED TO SEE EVERYONE COME THROUGH AND THEN THE DODGEBALL IN THE GYMNASIUM.

THAT WAS FUN TO WATCH THE PARENTS AGAINST THE KIDS.

THE FOOD WAS DONATED OR RATHER WAS ALL DRIVEN BY THE PTA I BELIEVE.

THEY HAD PIZZA OUT FOR THE FAMILY AND EVERYONE, THAT CAME IN GOT PIZZA.

THE ONE THING THAT REALLY STUCK OUT WAS THIS GROUP THAT THEY HAVE GOING FOR PLANTING TREES IN CAMAS.

IT IS COMPLETELY RUN BY IT.

THERE WERE A BUNCH OF KIDS STANDING THEN I SAID, WHOSE IDEA WAS THAT AND THEY ALL POINTED AS ONE KID WHO STARTED IT.

BUT THEY WERE ALL VERY SUPPORTIVE AND THEY WERE COLLECTING MONEY TO PLANT TREES AND THEY'RE WORKING AT IT AT BIGGER VENUE THAN I'M SAYING, BUT THAT'S IT STARTED BY A STUDENT AND I THOUGHT THAT WAS VERY IMPRESSIVE.

MY VISITS HAVE BEEN FUN.

>> ANYTHING ELSE? I KNOW I ALSO MENTIONED DURING OUR REPORTS WE HAVE SOME SITE VISITS COMING UP.

ON OCTOBER 31ST, HALLOWEEN SITE VISITS, I FEEL LIKE WE SHOULD DRESS UP A LITTLE BIT, BUT BUT WE'RE GOING YOU'LL BE DRESSED UP. I FIGURED YOU WOULD BE.

WE'LL BE GOING I THINK THAT MORNING WILL BE AT GRASS VALLEY SKYBRIDGE AND HAZE ON THE MORNING OF HALLOWEEN, THE 31ST, AND THEN THE NEXT WEEK WILL BE ON NOVEMBER 7TH, WILL BE IN THE AFTERNOONS.

THERE'LL BE A GROUP OF US AT PRUNE HILL, ODYSSEY AND DISCOVERY.

GREAT TO GET THOSE SITE VISITS GO IN AGAIN AND BE ABLE TO HIT EACH OF THOSE, OH YES, GO AHEAD.

>> EVER GO BACK THERE. I JUST WANTED TO SAY THAT ALL THE WORK THAT WE'VE BEEN

[00:55:05]

DOING AND THE STAFF HAS BEEN DOING AND OUR CABINET HAS BEEN DOING OVER THE LAST YEARS.

WE'RE SEEING THE FRUIT OF THAT IN OUR KIDS WHO ARE HERE TODAY.

TO EVERY ONE OF THEM, IT'S NOT JUST ONE SCHOOL THAT'S PRODUCING THESE GREAT KIDS.

THAT WHAT KIDS ARE DOING AND WHAT I'M HEARING ABOUT WHAT'S GOING ON IN THE SCHOOLS AND THE EVENTS THAT ARE HAPPENING.

IT MAKES ME FEEL LIKE WE'RE WE'RE WE'RE GOING IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION.

WE'RE DOING THE RIGHT THINGS.

I HEARD A LOT OF INCLUSIVITY, A LOT OF SEEKING FOR EVERYBODY TO BELONG.

I JUST WANTED TO TAKE A SECOND TO JUST APPRECIATE WHERE WE ARE AND WHERE WE'VE COME TO WITH OUR KIDS.

BECAUSE IT DOESN'T JUST MAGICALLY HAPPEN.

IT'S A LOT OF HARD WORK THAT A LOT OF PEOPLE OVER MANY YEARS HAVE PUT IN TO GET US HERE.

I JUST WANTED TO APPRECIATE THAT FOR A SECOND.

>> NO, ABSOLUTELY. I WON'T WANT TO SAY ANYTHING ELSE. YOU SAID IT JUST RIGHT.

ANYTHING ELSE FOR BOARD COMMUNICATION? LET'S SEE. THAT MOVES US DOWN TO ITEM 5 ON THE AGENDA.

THAT'S THE APPOINTMENT OF SOME NEW CITIZENS ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEMBERS FOR A THREE-YEAR TERM.

I WASN'T SURE IF YOU HAD ANYTHING YOU WANTED TO SAY ABOUT THE APPLICATION PROCESS OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT?

>> SURE. THANK YOU FOR THE OPPORTUNITY.

THE CAC, WE ACTUALLY HAD OUR FIRST MEETING AND AS ALWAYS, WE INVITE PEOPLE WHO ARE INTERESTED SO THEY CAN EITHER CONTINUE ON JOINING OR RUN FOR THE HILLS.

WE HAD A REALLY GOOD CONVERSATION.

JUST A SUPERINTENDENT REPORT AND JUST SOME GOOD DIALOGUE BACK-AND-FORTH ABOUT THINGS.

ULTIMATELY, WE DID SELECT NEW MEMBERS AND IT'S A VERY ROBUST PROCESS.

WE USE THE TWO CHAIRS TO COME, GAYLE'S INVOLVED AND SOME MEMBERS OF THE TEAM.

WHAT WE'RE REALLY LOOKING FOR IS PEOPLE WHO ARE REPRESENTING ALL OF YOUR DISTRICTS.

ALSO A GOOD CROSS-SECTION OF OUR COMMUNITY TO MAKE SURE THAT EVERYONE IS REPRESENTED.

WE HAVE ALL GREAT CANDIDATES AND IT'S ALWAYS HARD TO ASK PEOPLE TO MAYBE TRY A DIFFERENT COMMITTEE.

BUT TRULY IT COMES DOWN TO TRYING TO MAKE SURE THAT IT'S BALANCED THROUGHOUT THE DISTRICT COREY.

THANK YOU TO GAYLE AND THE REST OF THE TEAM FOR HELPING WITH THAT AND WE'RE EXCITED TO GET TO OUR SECOND MEETING WHICH WILL HAVE OUR 13, I BELIEVE NEW MEMBERS.

DO YOU WANT ME TO SHARE THE NAMES OR ARE WE GOOD?

>> IF YOU WANT TO GO AHEAD AND SHARE THE NAMES, THAT WOULD BE GREAT.

I DON'T SEE 13. I SEE I SEE NINE ON OUR LIST.

>> I THOUGHT IT WAS 13.

I WAS TOLD 13, BUT THAT'S OKAY.

I'LL JUST BRING UP THOSE NAMES SO WE CAN RECOGNIZE THEM FOR THE RECORD.

KATIE ANDERSON, KELLY DOWLING, JOHN FEATHER, LAURYN HERGUSON, MATTHEW MCBRIDE, VICTORIA SUPERNOVA, SAU JOANNE SOY, CHRISTINA STOLLER AND KRISTIN YESHUMARA.

ALL WONDERFUL PEOPLE, THANK YOU.

>> IF THERE ARE ANY FURTHER DISCUSSION OR IF THERE ISN'T ANY FURTHER DISCUSSION, I ENTERTAIN A MOTION AND A SECOND TO ACCEPT THESE MEMBERS.

>> I'LL MOVE TO APPROVE THE APPOINTMENT OF THE NEW CITIZENS ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEMBERS FOR A THREE-YEAR TERM AS SUBMITTED

>> I'LL SECOND.

>> IT WAS MOVED BY TRACY, SECONDED BY BOMNEY.

ANY FURTHER DISCUSSION? ALL THOSE IN FAVOR.

>> AYE.

>> OPPOSED?

>> THERE WAS NO OPPOSE.

>> I THINK YOU WERE, JUST A LITTLE DELAYED. MOTION CARRIES.

THAT MOVES US DOWN TO ITEM SIX ON THE AGENDA.

PUBLIC COMMENTS SCALE THAT WE HAVE ANY PUBLIC COMMENTS? OKAY GREAT. WE'LL GO AHEAD AND KEEP GOING.

ITEM SEVEN, BOARD, YOU SAW THAT THERE WAS A HUMAN RESOURCES ADDENDUM THAT WAS ADDED TO THE CONSENT AGENDA.

OTHERWISE, IT'S WHAT WAS PRESENTED TO YOU LAST WEEK.

SO I WOULD ENTERTAIN A MOTION AND A SECOND TO APPROVE THE CONSENT AGENDA AS AMENDED.

>> I MOVE TO ACCEPT THE CONSENT AGENDA AS SUBMITTED WITH THE ADDENDUM.

>> I'LL SECOND THAT.

>> IT WAS MOVED BY CONNIE'S SECONDED BY TRACY.

ANY FURTHER DISCUSSION? ALL THOSE IN FAVOR?

>> AYE.

>> OPPOSED? ALL RIGHT MOTION CARRIES.

WE HAVE YOUR CLUBS, [NOISE] CONGRATULATIONS.

ITEM NINE ON THE AGENDA.

WE'RE NOW INTO THE BUSINESS PORTION OF OUR AGENDA, BY THE WAY, TOO.

IF ANYBODY, YOU'RE ALL WELCOME TO STAY, BUT WE'RE GOING TO MOVE ON TO SOME POLICY REVIEW HERE.

LET'S GO AHEAD AND TAKE A LOOK AT THESE.

ERICA AND I MET WITH JOHN AND GAIL TO GO OVER SOME OF THESE UPDATES TO POLICY.

THIS IS FIRST READING TONIGHT.

[01:00:01]

I WANT TO GO THROUGH THESE ONE.

YOU HAVE THEM IN FRONT OF YOU, BUT I WANT TO GO THROUGH THEM ONE AT A TIME FOR YOU, JUST IN CASE YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT THEM, SO WE'LL START WITH POLICY 20-30, WHICH IS THE TRANSITION TO KINDERGARTEN PROGRAM.

THIS IS A NEW POLICY SINCE THE TK PROGRAM IN OUR DISTRICT IS NEW.

I WASN'T SURE IF YOU HAD ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT THIS.

NOPE, GREAT. THE NEXT ONE, POLICY 22, 55 ALTERNATIVE LEARNING EXPERIENCE COURSES.

>> I JUST FOUND A TYPO IN HERE.

THIS IS THE RIVETING WORK OF A SCHOOL BOARD COMING THROUGH POLICY.

GAIL IT SAYS ALE PROGRAMS MAY INCLUDE COMMA, THE FOLLOWING TYPES.

WE DON'T NEED A COMMA THERE, AND THAT'S ALL I HAD.

[B. Legislative Priorities]

>> ANY OTHER THOUGHTS ON THAT?

>> COREY, REALLY QUICKLY IT JUST ON 20-30 I WANT TO DO IS RECOGNIZE THAT WE HAD WE MAY HAVE SOME EDITS AND REVISIONS TO THAT ONE, SO I MAY HAVE TO BRING THE COMMITTEE BACK AS WE REVIEW IT A LITTLE BIT MORE.

MS. WOLF, IS HERE TONIGHT, OUR AMAZING, TK TEACHER WANTED TO MAKE SURE THAT WE LOOK DEEPLY INTO SOME CHANGES THAT EITHER WE MAY HAVE MISSED OR JUST WANTED TO MAKE SURE WE GOT RIGHT FOR SECOND READING.

SORRY. I JUST WANTED TO MAKE SURE I ACKNOWLEDGE HER COMMITMENT TO THIS WORK AND THAT WE MAY HAVE TO MAKE SOME CHANGES TO THAT LINE.

>> THAT'S EXACTLY WHY WE DO FIRST AND SECOND READING. THANK YOU.

THE NEXT ONE, POLICY 24,11, WHICH IS THE HIGH-SCHOOL EQUIVALENCY CERTIFICATE.

THIS IS THIS IS ALL UPDATED LANGUAGE FROM MAZDA POLICY AND LEGAL NEWS.

I'M JUST GETTING US IN LINE WITH THE NEW GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS.

>> I DID HAVE AN UPDATE IN HERE AND I DIDN'T WRITE DOWN EXACTLY WHERE IT WAS, BUT WE REFERENCED OPEN DOORS, THE PROGRAM AND SO IT SHOULD BE CAPITALIZED, OPEN DOORS PROGRAM.

>> ARE THERE ANY OTHER QUESTIONS? POLICY 31, 22, EXCUSED AN UNEXCUSED ABSENCES.

GO AHEAD. THAT'S GREAT.

>> IN 1.1 ON PAGE TWO.

>> YEP.

>> WE HAVE A LIST, IT SAYS PHYSICAL HEALTH AND MENTAL HEALTH.

THE THINGS THAT THEY CAN BE CONSIDERED AS EXCUSED ABSENCES, AND WE LISTED AND TALKED, EXAMPLES OF SYMPTOMS FOR HEALTH CONDITIONS OR MEDICAL APPOINTMENTS INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO MEDICAL, IT'S TALKING ABOUT DIFFERENT APPOINTMENTS AND MEDICAL COUNSELING, MENTAL HEALTH WELLNESS, DENTAL OPTOMETRY, PREGNANCY, AND BEHAVIORAL HEALTH TREATMENT, AND I DIDN'T KNOW WHY PREGNANCY IS IN THERE BECAUSE THAT'S LIKE A HEALTH CONDITION THAT YOU WOULD GO TO A MEDICAL APPOINTMENT FOR OR SOMETHING.

IT'S ALL THE OTHERS ARE TYPES OF APPOINTMENTS AND THEN THERE'S A CONDITION IN THERE.

I DON'T KNOW WHY WE NEED TO SPELL THAT OUT.

FRUITFUL THOUGHT, AND THEN IN 3B, [OVERLAPPING] EXCUSED ABSENCES, AN EXCUSED ABSENCE WILL BE VERIFIED BY A PARENT/GUARDIAN OR AN ADULT EMANCIPATED OR APPROPRIATELY AGED STUDENT.

MY QUESTION IS, ISN'T APPROPRIATELY AGED STUDENT, A STUDENT WHO'S 18? IF THAT'S THE CASE, THEN ARE WE SAYING THAT STUDENTS WHO ARE 18 CAN EXCUSE THEIR OWN ABSENCES?

>> YOU WANT TO GET ON? THANK YOU.

>> IT WAS A QUESTION, WHEN I WAS IN HIGH SCHOOL, WE COULD DO WHEN YOU'VE TURNED 18 OR LIKE [NOISE], PLEASE EXCUSE MY ABSENCE, FIRST PERIOD, WHATEVER, BUT I KNOW THAT, THIS SCHOOL I WORK AT, STUDENTS ARE NOT ALLOWED TO DO THAT.

I WAS JUST WONDERING IF THAT'S WHAT THAT SAYS.

>> WE'LL TALK TO EACH OF OUR HIGH SCHOOL PRINCIPALS TO SEE IF IT'S MORE DISCRETIONARY BASED ON CASE-BY-CASE OR IF IT'S HARD.

>> I UNDERSTAND EMANCIPATED STUDENTS OR STUDENTS IN TRANSITION CAN EXCUSE THEMSELVES, BUT I DIDN'T KNOW.

>> GREAT QUESTION, COREY. THANK YOU.

>> THAT'S ALL I HAVE.

>> 3205. JUST UPDATES TO TERRIBLE TITLE SEXUAL HARASSMENT OF STUDENTS PROHIBITED?

[01:05:03]

YES, WE KNOW, 3205 JUST HAS SOME UPDATES.

THIS IS JUST CLEANING UP LANGUAGE, CHANGING KNOWS, THAT'S A SIMPLE ONE.

DO YOU HAVE A QUESTION? 34,21.

CHILD ABUSE AND NEGLECT. ANY QUESTIONS IN THERE?

>> WHAT OF LANGUAGE?

>> JUST YES, LANGUAGE CHANGES, AND G POLICY 5001, WHICH IS HIRING OF RETIRED SCHOOL EMPLOYEES.

THAT'S JUST AN UPDATE WITH THE NEW LAW THAT WENT THROUGH TO ALLOW US TO HELP OUT WITH GETTING SOME MORE SUBSTANTIVE.

>> IT WAS CONFUSING TALKING ABOUT TOURS PLAN ONE AND PLAN TWO IN-PERSON TOURS.

I HOPE THIS MAKES SENSE TO THE PEOPLE WHO ARE HIRING SUBS BECAUSE IT LOST ME A LITTLE BIT, BUT I IMAGINE HR KNOWS WHAT'S WHAT AND IT.

[OVERLAPPING] HAS TO MAKE SENSE OF IT.

>> THE CHANGES TO THE RETIREMENT PLANS THAT HAD HAPPENED IN THE LAST 20 YEARS OR SO IN A LOT OF THEM WOULDN'T APPLY TO THAT, IT'S THE OLD GOLDEN CERTIFICATE.

>> TOURS? THEN?

>> POLICY 50, 11, SEXUAL HARASSMENT OF DISTRICT STAFF PROHIBITED.

AGAIN, IT'S JUST ONE LANGUAGE CHANGE THERE [NOISE], 5406 LEAVE SHARING.

ACTUALLY, IT'S FREEING THIS UP A LITTLE BIT TO ALLOW FOR MORE EXAMPLES OR MORE SITUATIONS WHERE LEAVES SHOWING ME OKAY.

ANY QUESTIONS ON 5406? POLICY 5521 IS ACTUALLY WHERE THE PROPOSAL IS TO RETIRE THAT THAT POLICY BECAUSE WE DO NOT HAVE THIS TEACHER ASSISTANCE PROGRAM.

THE LAWS HAVE CHANGED AND IT'S NOT THAT ANYMORE.

SO THAT'S 5521 WILL GO AWAY.

AND LAST ONE 5610, IS JUST SOME LANGUAGE CHANGE AROUND SUBSTITUTE EMPLOYMENT.

AGAIN, THIS IS GOING BACK TO THOSE RETIRE REHIRE TYPE SITUATIONS THAT WE CAN GET TO TO HELP TO ALLEVIATE SOME OF OUR SHORTAGES OF SUBS.

ANY QUESTIONS ON THOSE? THAT'S THE SLATE OF POLICIES THAT WE HAVE THAT WE WORKED THROUGH AS THE COMMITTEE.

WE GOT YOUR QUESTIONS ON THOSE FIRST COUPLE THERE, SO WE'LL GET THOSE BEFORE SECOND READING.

THIS IS APPROVAL OF FIRST READING AND I'M LOOKING FOR A MOTION AND A SECOND TO APPROVE, WE CAN JUST DO A ONE BLANKET MOTION FOR THESE.

>> I WILL MAKE THE MOTION TO APPROVE THE POLICIES AS PRESENTED FOR FIRST READING ONLY KNOWING THAT THEY'LL COME BACK TO US FOR THE FINAL SECOND READING.

>> AND I WILL SECOND THAT.

>> SO MOVED BY TRACY, SECONDED BY DOMINI.

ANY FURTHER DISCUSSION? ALL THOSE IN FAVOR?

>> AYE.

>> MOTION CARRIES. THANK YOU.

WE ARE READY TO WE'RE GOING TO HAVE A LOT OF POLICY UPDATES COMING OUT AS SOON BECAUSE NOW THERE'S BEEN A LOT THAT THE PANDEMIC BACKLOGGED, AND SO WE'RE REALLY WORKING OUR WAY THROUGH THESE AS QUICKLY AS WE CAN.

PROBABLY BE A MONTHLY THING FOR A LITTLE BIT.

WOW, IT'S 6:40 AND WE'RE JUST NOW GETTING TO THE SUPERINTENDENT'S REPORT.

DR. ANGELA, AND I'LL GO AHEAD AND TURN IT OVER TO YOU.

>> IS THAT SAME TO HURRY UP?

>> NO. NO. I'M JUST SAYING THAT THE BEGINNING OF THE MEETING WAS A LOT. YOU'RE ARRESTED.

YOU CAN GO READY. MY VOCAL CORDS ARE READY TO ROLL, SO HEY, WELL, GOOD TO SEE EVERYBODY OUT THERE TONIGHT.

AS YOU ALL SAID, IT'S BEEN A BUSY MONTH? AS WE'VE BEEN GOING AROUND TO SPEAK WITH STAFF AND PATIOS, ARE REALLY THANKFUL OF HOW NICELY PEOPLE HAVE TRANSITIONED BACK AND GOTTEN RIGHT INTO THE WORK AND REALLY HAVEN'T HESITATED WITH OUR KIDS TO GET THEM BUSY AND ACTIVE AND PARTICIPATING IN THINGS.

SO YOU'LL SEE SOME OF THAT TONIGHT.

BUT AS ALWAYS, I TRIED TO START OUT WITH OUR ENROLLMENT UPDATE.

THIS IS FTE AND NOT OUR ACTUAL BODIES HEADCOUNT IN THE BUILDINGS, BECAUSE AS YOU KNOW, WE ALWAYS HAVE MORE STUDENTS THAN THIS THAT ARE DOING DIFFERENT PROGRAMS LIKE RUNNING STAR, CASCADIA ATTACK.

[01:10:01]

THIS IS THE ACTUAL FTE, THE AMOUNT OF STUDENTS THAT WERE FUNDED FOR.

RIGHT NOW WE'RE AT 6,831 STUDENTS FOR JUST OVER 4,000 STUDENTS IN OUR SECONDARY PROGRAMS, AND JUST UNDER 3,000 IN OUR ELEMENTARY PROGRAMS.

>> I HAVE ONE QUESTION.

THE NUMBERS NEXT TO THE -3 AND -9+6, IS THAT SINCE THE BEGINNING OF THE YEAR OR IS THAT COMPARED TO LAST YEAR?

>> THAT'S COMPARED TO LAST MONTH?

>> LAST MONTH.

>> MID SEPTEMBER OF 2023?

>> YES.

>> ALSO JUST APPRECIATE THAT YOU'RE THE NUMBERS HERE ARE FTE BECAUSE I KNOW IT SOUNDS WE'VE FLIPPED BACK BETWEEN ME AS AN FTE OR AT HEADCOUNT AND WE'RE FUNDED ON FTE.

SO I THINK BEING CONSISTENT WITH THE NUMBERS WE'RE SHARING HERE?

>> YES. IN CONSULTATION WITH OUR CFO, WE WANTED TO MAKE SURE THAT WE'RE ALIGNED TO HOW WE'RE FUNDED, ESPECIALLY NOW THAT WE'RE IN THE FUNDING MONTH OF OCTOBER SO THANKS.

>> THESE ARE BASED ON OCTOBER COUNT?

>> YES. AND THEN YOU CAN KIND OF GO THROUGH AND SEE OUR HIGH-SCHOOL CCA, I THINK DR. HALL LEFT, BUT CCA CONTINUES TO GROW.

FIVE STUDENTS IN HIGH SCHOOL, ONE IN MIDDLE SCHOOL AND ELEMENTARY.

SO KUDOS THERE.

ALSO, I ALWAYS WANT TO POINT OUT ARE OUR OTHER SELECT SCHOOLS, HAYES FREEDOM CONTINUES TO GROW.

SO YOU'LL SEE A PLUS FOUR THERE AT 158 STUDENTS.

SOMETIMES WHEN YOU SEE THOSE NEGATIVE NUMBERS, THAT DOESN'T NECESSARILY MEAN STUDENTS ARE WITHDRAWING FROM THE SCHOOL DISTRICT.

IT JUST MEANS THAT THEY'RE TRYING SOME OF OUR OTHER PROGRAMS. THEY MAY HAVE SHIFTED TO CAMAS HIGH SCHOOL OR SHIFTED TO DISCOVERY OR HAYES OR ANOTHER FORMULA IN THERE SOMEWHERE.

SO TYPICALLY OUR ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS, AS YOU KNOW, OVER THE YEARS, THEY STAY PRETTY STABLE.

SEE LACK OF MS. LAKE, WHICH HAS OUR MOST CAPACITY, ACTUALLY GREW BY FOUR STUDENTS.

MOST OF OUR ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS DON'T REALLY FLUCTUATE VERY MUCH.

MAYBE A STUDENT HERE, STUDENT THERE.

ANY OTHER QUESTIONS ON ENROLLMENT? HARMONY?

>> I WAS GOING TO ASK YOU, IS THERE A WAY TO TELL WHEN SOMEBODY GOES FROM CAMAS HIGH SCHOOL TO DISCOVERY, BUT YOU ANSWERED THAT ONE.

>> YEAH, WE CAN DEFINITELY ALWAYS GET YOU THAT INFORMATION.

IT'S JUST A LOT FOR THIS SLIDE, SO YEAH, JUST LET ME KNOW AND WE CAN GET THAT FOR YOU.

THIS IS A HUGE CELEBRATION AND THIS IS SOMETHING THAT TRADITIONALLY CAMAS DOES EXTREMELY WELL IN US AND OUR ASSESSMENTS, OUR STANDARDIZED ASSESSMENTS.

SO KUDOS TO ALL OF OUR EDUCATORS IN THE ROOM OUR PARENTS SPECIFICALLY WHO HELPS SUPPORT OUR KIDS.

I KNOW AS WELL AS YOU DO THIS AS A SNAPSHOT IN TIME.

THIS IS JUST ONE OF THE MANY ATTRIBUTES THAT OUR KIDS HAVE, BUT I WILL TELL YOU WE CONTINUE TO BLOSSOM IN THIS AREA.

THIS IS THIRD THROUGH 11TH GRADE ASSESSMENTS AND OUR S BACK, AND AS YOU CAN SEE, COMPARED TO WASHINGTON STATE, OUR SCORES CONTINUED TO RISE.

THERE WAS AN ARTICLE IN THE COLOMBIAN I THINK EITHER YESTERDAY OR THIS MORNING.

I CAN'T REMEMBER THAT REALLY TALKED ABOUT THE REGION AND HOW CAMAS IS CONTINUING TO GROW AND THRIVE IN THIS AREA, EVEN COMING OFF OF THE UNFINISHED LEARNING FROM COVID.

SO OUR NEIGHBORING DISTRICTS ARE STRUGGLING A LITTLE BIT IN THIS AREA AND CAMAS CONTINUES TO RISE ABOVE THAT.

YOU SEE THAT THERE'S A 23% DIFFERENCE BETWEEN AN ELA BETWEEN CAMAS AND THE REST OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON.

AND THEN YOU SEE, AS IT GOES FURTHER ON.

POINTING OUT SPECIFICALLY SCIENCE FROM LAST YEAR TO THIS YEAR, SCIENCE HAS GONE UP ANOTHER 3% IN OUR DISTRICT.

SO AGAIN, THIS IS ALL KUDOS TO NOT JUST OUR TEACHERS, BUT OUR PARENTS AND ALL OF OUR STAFF THAT WORK WITH OUR KIDS EVERY DAY.

BUT JUST AS IMPORTANTLY, OUR FAMILIES WHO SUPPORT THEM.

QUESTIONS ON ASSESSMENT? I NEVER WANT TO SPEND TOO MUCH TIME ON THIS BECAUSE I REALLY THINK THAT LEARNING IS SO MUCH DEEPER THAN THIS, BUT THIS IS STILL IMPORTANT INFORMATION.

CONTINUING THE HEALING ON THE NEXT STEPS FROM OUR WORK STOPPAGE AT THE BEGINNING OF THE YEAR.

AS YOU KNOW, I'VE MADE STOPS AT MULTIPLE SCHOOLS.

WE CONTINUE TO DO THAT.

WELL, I THINK WE'RE GOING ALL THE WAY ALMOST TILL THANKSGIVING BEFORE WE CAN GET TO ALL THE SCHOOLS.

OF COURSE, ALL OF THE PTOS, THAT EXPRESS AN INVITE AND THOSE ARE GOING VERY, VERY WELL.

SOME TOUGH QUESTIONS WHICH IS NORMAL AND SOME VERY TRANSPARENT TRUTHFUL ANSWERS, OF COURSE.

BUT WE ARE EXCITED ABOUT WEDNESDAY, THE 25TH COMING UP ARE AFTER-ACTION REVIEW WITH OUR CEA BARGAINING TEAM, AND SO ONE OF THE OUTCOMES OF THAT IS TO REALLY LOOK AT SOME AREAS THAT WE COULD HAVE DONE BETTER IS NOTHING WRONG WITH LOOKING AT THAT.

AND AREAS THAT WE DID WELL, AND OF COURSE, CELEBRATING THIS TEACHER CONTRACT THAT I THINK IS VERY GOOD.

BUT JUST AS IMPORTANTLY, AND THIS IS OUR WAY TO REALLY UNITE, NOT JUST AROUND THE NEXT NEGOTIATIONS WHICH IS COMING UP IN TWO SHORT YEARS.

BUT I THINK JUST AS IMPORTANTLY TO UNITE AROUND

[01:15:03]

THE LEGISLATIVE SESSION AS YOU MENTIONED CONNIE AND ALSO THE LEVEE COMING UP IN FEBRUARY.

SO TWO VERY IMPORTANT EVENTS THAT OUR COMMUNITY WILL GO THROUGH TOGETHER, BUT I THINK MAKING SURE THAT WE ARE UNITED WITH CEA SPECIFICALLY AFTER A DIFFICULT AND CHALLENGING NEGOTIATION IS VERY IMPORTANT.

THAT'LL BE THE 25TH.

MICHAEL, I BELIEVE 9:30 IN THE MORNING. IS THAT THE AFTERNOON? PERFECT. QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS ON THAT? JUST A COUPLE OTHER THINGS I WANTED TO MENTION AS FAR AS NEXT STEPS, WE CONTINUE TO PUT OUT THE FIVE GOOD THINGS TO ALL OF OUR STAFF ON FRIDAYS.

AS OUR STAFF SENDS US THINGS AND I ATTEND EVENTS, WE TRIED TO CELEBRATE THOSE THINGS.

CSD NEWSROOM, I THOUGHT DOREEN DID A WONDERFUL JOB PUTTING A GREAT NEWSLETTER OUT EARLIER THIS MONTH.

WE CONTINUE TO BE ON THE PLATFORM.

I DON'T KNOW WHETHER IT'S TWITTER OR X TODAY, BUT WE'LL JUST SAY TWITTER, AND THEN OF COURSE, PARENTS WERE UTILIZING THAT TO ADVERTISE EVENTS.

THE CE PARTNERSHIP I CAN'T STRESS ENOUGH THAT WE'RE CONTINUING TO BUILD AND REBUILD THAT TRUST, THE COMMITTEE WORK THAT THEY'RE DOING.

I SEE EITHER MICHAEL OR MARCY OR MEGAN OR ERIC OR ONE OF OUR BARGAINING MEMBERS ARE AT ALMOST EVERY COMMITTEE WE HAVE.

SO THANK YOU FOR YOUR LEADERSHIP AND YOUR PARTICIPATION THAT BEING AT THE TABLE WITH THE DISTRICT IS VERY IMPORTANT, NOT JUST AT THE BARGAINING TABLE, BUT ALL OF THE WORK WE DO.

WE'LL CONTINUE TO TALK ABOUT OUR SHARED VALUES THAT'S GROUNDED IN MTSS AND THE EQUITY WORK THAT WE CONTINUE TO PROMOTE.

CONNIE, YOU'VE MENTIONED SOMETHING EARLIER ABOUT THE DIVIDENDS THAT THE WORK BEFORE ME AND OTHERS HAVE DONE.

I WILL TELL YOU THAT OUR MIDDLE SCHOOL TEACHERS, MANY OF THEM HAVE REACHED OUT TO SAY THAT THEY ARE CLEARLY SEEING THE EQUITY WORK COMING INTO THEIR SCHOOLS.

THAT THE DEVOTION OF THAT WORK AT OUR ELEMENTARY LEVEL, THAT IS NOW BLEEDING INTO THE MIDDLE SCHOOL LEVEL.

WE STILL HAVE A LOT OF WORK TO DO, BUT OUR KIDS ARE SHOWING IT AND IT'S STARTING TO MOVE UP INTO OUR MIDDLE SCHOOL AND HIGH SCHOOL.

I REALLY LIKED THAT YOU SAID THAT.

CONTINUING A JOINT MESSAGING WITH COMMUNICATION, THAT'S ONE OF THE OTHER OUTCOMES I'D LIKE TO SEE AFTER WEDNESDAY IS FINDING A WAY FOR CEA AND THE DISTRICT AS A WHOLE TO REALLY DO SOME JOINT MESSAGING TOGETHER FOR OUR COMMUNITY.

I HOPE YOU'LL SEE MORE OF THAT OR SOME OF THAT, AND THEN KEEPING IN MIND DIGNITY AND MAKING SURE WE'RE LISTENING, SHOWING EMPATHY TO ONE ANOTHER, OPENNESS AND PATIENTS WHICH ISN'T ALWAYS THERE PRESENT DURING NEGOTIATIONS AND WE NEED TO MAKE SURE WE'RE THINKING ABOUT THAT.

SO THOUGHTS ON THAT SLIDE.

ONE OF THE THINGS THAT IS HELPING INFORM NOT JUST MY CABINET AND ME, BUT ALSO YOU IS OUR BUDGET COMMITTEE.

WE HAD OUR FIRST MEETING ON OCTOBER 18TH.

WE HAD A COUPLE OF NEW MEMBERS.

THOSE OF YOU WHO ARE THERE, I THINK BOMNEY AND CONNIE AND TRACY WERE THERE. THANK YOU.

ERIC. THE BUDGET COMMITTEE WAS VOMITING FOR SURE, AND YOU, TRACY.

I THINK THAT WAS AN IMPORTANT MEETING TO REALLY START TO OPEN THE CONVERSATION ON THE LEVY RATE AND ALSO THE LEGISLATIVE SESSION, HOW SO MUCH OF THAT WORK IS COMING TOGETHER.

SO THANK YOU, JASON IN YOUR LEADERSHIP.

WE REALLY DID HASH OUT A LOT OF THINGS AND I THINK SOME MEMBERS, NOT ME, STAYED A LOT LATER THAN THAT.

I FEEL BAD NOW AFTER THEY TOLD ME THEY HAD CONVERSATIONS FOR UP TO AN HOUR AFTERWARDS.

SO THANK YOU FOR THAT WORK.

NEXT MEETING WILL BE NOVEMBER 15TH, AND THEN WE HAVE THOSE SUBSEQUENT MEETING DAYS IN JANUARY THROUGHOUT THE REST OF THE YEAR.

ALSO, OUR LEGISLATIVE ADVOCACY COMMITTEE, AS CONNIE MENTIONED, IT WAS OUR INAUGURAL ONE ON OCTOBER 16TH.

SO A LOT OF COMMITTEE WORK.

WE HAD REPRESENTATION FROM THE BOARD, MYSELF.

WE HAD SOME GREAT COMMUNITY MEMBERS AND SOME STAFF MEMBERS THERE AS WELL AS COMMUNITY MEMBERS AND PARENTS.

WE TALKED ABOUT NARROWING DOWN OUR PRIORITIES TO WORK WITH OUR LEGISLATORS IN JANUARY.

WHAT I'M REALLY EXCITED ABOUT IS NOVEMBER 20TH WHERE WE'RE ACTUALLY HOSTING A RECEPTION FOR OUR LEGISLATORS.

AND WE'VE RECEIVED RSVP'S FROM TWO OF THE THREE, SO THAT'S GOOD.

AND I'M HOPING AGAIN, THAT UNITED VOICE, TO YOUR POINT, CONNIE, ABOUT MAKING SURE THAT WE ARE COLLECTIVELY SHARING THOSE IDEAS AND THOSE NEEDS WITH OUR LEGISLATORS IN JANUARY AND BEYOND IS HUGE.

SO I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO THAT RECEPTION AND MEETING WITH OUR LEGISLATORS NOVEMBER 20TH HERE AT ZAC.

AND OUR EMPLOYEE ADVISORY COMMITTEE MET FIRST ONE OF THE YEAR, THIS STARTED LAST YEAR.

AND CONTINUING THIS YEAR, WE HAD A LOT OF REALLY POSITIVE FEEDBACK.

BELIEVE IT OR NOT, ON CHARTWELLS, THE FOOD SERVICE COMPANY THAT WERE WITH NOW.

BUT WE ALSO TALKED A LOT ABOUT STAFFING SHORTAGES.

THERE'S STILL A LOT OF SUBSTITUTE SHORTAGES GOING ON,

[01:20:05]

NOT JUST WITHIN FOOD SERVICE, BUT IN OUR SCHOOLS AS WELL.

SO OUR HR DEPARTMENT IS COMMITTED TO CONTINUALLY POSTING SUBSTITUTE POSITIONS.

ALSO IN THE LAST NEGOTIATION SESSION, I SEE MICHAEL HERE, WE PUT SOME EFFORT INTO RAISING THE SALARY FOR OUR SUBSTITUTES.

SO THANK YOU FOR THAT WORK.

I'M HOPING THAT THAT WILL HELP.

BUT THIS IS A PROBLEM NATIONWIDE RIGHT NOW AND JUST GETTING PEOPLE TO TAKE ON THIS WORK.

BUT I KNOW THAT THE SUBSTITUTES WE HAVE ARE VERY VALUED AND REALLY CHERISHED BY OUR PRINCIPLES, SO HOPING TO HANG ON TO THEM.

SEL COUNSELING CAME UP, AND REALLY THAT'S WORK AROUND OUR PROTOTYPICAL FUNDING MODEL, WHICH IS GOING TO BE DEFINITELY A TOPIC OF DISCUSSION WITH OUR LEGISLATORS.

REALLY LOOKING AT NOT JUST FUNDING MORE COUNSELING, BUT SPECIFIC SEL WORK DRUG AND ALCOHOL COUNSELOR, THIS CAME UP LOUD AND CLEAR AT THIS ADVISORY COUNCIL, THEIR COMMITTEE THAT THAT WORKS STILL NEEDS A LOT OF ATTENTION.

AND SO I'M HOPING TO BRING SOME OF THAT UP WITH OUR LEGISLATORS.

I DO WANT IT TO COMMENT AND THANK THOSE OF OUR STAFF WHO ARE WORKING AT OUR CURAE CENTER, WHICH IS OUR CARRYING CENTER THAT JUST STARTED IN PARTNERSHIP WITH ESD 112, WE HAVE THREE CHILDREN IN THAT PROGRAM NOW WHO ARE REALLY RETOOLING AND LEARNING SOME NEW SKILLS SO THAT THEY CAN BECOME RE-ENGAGED INTO OUR COMPREHENSIVE SCHOOLS, AND THAT'S RIGHT OVER HERE IN OUR ZAC BUILDING.

THEN THE CONTINUED WORK OF OUR MTSS AND INTEGRATING THAT WORK INTO EVERYTHING WE DO.

THE EMPLOYEES TALKED ABOUT CONSISTENT GRADING PRACTICES AND WE DEFINITELY HAVE SOME NEED THERE.

THIS IS SOMETHING THAT AS YOU ROLL OUT NEW PRACTICES LIKE STANDARDS-BASED GRADING, THERE'S GOING TO BE A LOT OF INS AND OUTS, UPS AND DOWNS AND LEARNING THAT HAS TO GO ON.

WE WERE STARTING TO HEAR THAT IT'S TAKING ON BETTER IN SECONDARY SCHOOLS.

BUT THERE STILL NEEDS TO BE SOME ONGOING LEARNING, AND SO THE SBG COMMITTEE IS STILL WORKING TO MAKE SURE THERE'S MORE CONSISTENCY THROUGHOUT OUR SCHOOLS.

WHAT I HEARD FROM EMPLOYEES IS THAT THINGS COULD VARY, NOT JUST SCHOOL TO SCHOOL, BUT SOMETIMES CLASSROOM TO CLASSROOM STILL.

SO THAT'S AN AREA OF OPPORTUNITY FOR US. BIG TIME.

AND I KNOW THAT'S COMMON THROUGHOUT OUR STATE AND OUR NATION AS STANDARD-BASED GRADING IS GETTING MORE PREVALENT.

IT'S A BIG LEARNING CURVE FROM HOW ALL OF US LEARNED GROWING UP.

THEN OF COURSE, OUR NEXT MEETING FOR EMPLOYEE ADVISORY AS FEBRUARY 13TH, SO THAT COMMITTEE HAS ACTUALLY QUADRUPLED IN SIZE FROM LAST YEAR, SO LOTS OF PEOPLE WITH A LOT OF VOICE.

STUDENT ADVISORY COMMITTEE YOU HEARD FROM SIMONE AND EARLIER, AND WE ARE JUST ROCKING AND ROLLING.

I SEE KATIE SEIDEL IN THE BACK THERE, ONE OF OUR CODE ADVISORS, SHAUNA ROSS, AMAZING WORK.

I'M JUST THRILLED THAT I GET TO GO TO THOSE MEETINGS AND BE AROUND THESE AMAZING KIDS.

AS THE STUDENTS SAID EARLIER, WINDOWS AND MIRRORS WILL BE THE FIRST PROJECT.

AND AS SIMONE ELOQUENTLY SAID, IT MUCH BETTER THAN I DID, OUR PRINCIPLES WILL HAVE A LOT OF INPUT AND NOT JUST WHEN THIS WILL HAPPEN, BUT HOW IT'S GOING TO LOOK WITH OUR FIFTH GRADERS, RIGHT SIMONE? THEN LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE, WE'LL TALK MORE ABOUT THAT AS THE YEAR GOES ON, THAT WILL MOST LIKELY BE IN THE SPRING, AS WELL AS STUDENT VOICE.

THAT'S AN ONGOING PROJECT.

STUDENT VOICE AND GETTING MORE STUDENTS VOICES HEARD.

I DO WANT TO THANK THE BOARD FOR REACHING OUT AND SAYING, HEY, WE WANT TO BE A PART OF THIS TOO, SO WE'LL SEE MORE BOARD MEMBERS AT THE MEETINGS.

DON'T BE NERVOUS, THEY'RE GREAT.

THEN OF COURSE, THE STUDENTS WANT TO ENGAGE IN A WORKSHOP WITH YOU COMING UP PROBABLY IN THE SPRING AS WELL, SO THAT'S GOOD STUFF.

COUPLE OF PICTURES THERE.

YOU SEE MS. CIDAL AND SHAUNA WORKING WITH OUR LEADERSHIP TEAM.

THEN THE LOWER PICTURE IS THE BIGGER GROUP.

WE MEET WITH THE LEADERSHIP KIDS FIRST AND THEN THE LARGER GROUP, ACTUALLY RIGHT HERE IN G. AND THIS IS THEM COMING TOGETHER, SO GOOD STUFF THERE.

>> I JUST WANTED TO PAUSE REALLY QUICK JUST TO COMMEND YOU FOR THE WORK THAT YOU'VE DONE HERE.

WE'VE CHALLENGED YOU A LOT IN THE LAST COUPLE OF MONTHS ABOUT ENGAGING THE COMMUNITY.

AND AS I LOOK THROUGH ALL OF THE STUDENT ADVISORY COMMITTEE, THE EMPLOYEE ADVISORY COMMITTEE, LEGISLATIVE ADVISORY COMMITTEE.

A LOT OF THESE NEW WAYS AND THERE'S SO MANY WAYS NOW, I'M EXCITED TO SEE THAT THERE'S SO MANY WAYS FOR COMMUNITY MEMBERS OF ALL STRIPES TO BE GETTING INVOLVED, AND THE WORK THAT'S GOING IN THERE.

I KNOW YOU DON'T WANT TO DO A MEETING JUST FOR THE SAKE OF ANOTHER MEETING AND TO SEE THEM

[D. WSSDA Annual Conference Planning]

MEANINGFUL WORK THAT'S GOING ON IN THERE THAT WHEN WE GET TO ATTEND THESE AND WE GET THE REPORTS BACK.

I JUST THANK YOU FOR THAT BECAUSE I KNOW THAT'S EXTRA TIME.

>> I JUST WANTED TO ECHO ON THAT.

WE HAVE A LOT OF COMMITTEES AND A LOT OF COMMITTEE WORK RIGHT NOW.

[01:25:01]

AND WE HAVE A LOT OF GREAT CITIZENS THAT ARE PUTTING UP TIME TO BE INVOLVED IN THOSE, AND SOME DOING DOUBLE DUTY, BECAUSE I SAW SOME OF THE SAME AT THE BUDGET COMMITTEE AND ADVOCACY COMMITTEE AND THOSE GO HAND IN HAND.

BUT IT'S A LOT OF TIME THAT WE PUT INTO THAT.

AND I'M REALLY EXCITED FOR THAT LEGISLATIVE COMMITTEE BECAUSE THE LEGISLATORS LIKE TO HEAR FROM US, BUT THEY LIKE TO HEAR FROM OUR PARENTS AND THEY LIKE TO HEAR FROM OUR STUDENTS BECAUSE THAT'S THE STORY THEY WANT TO HEAR.

AND SO GETTING THE COMMUNITY INVOLVED IN BEING INVOLVED IN THAT COMMITTEE IS FABULOUS.

SO IF ANYONE ELSE, IT'S A GREAT COMMUNITY BEYOND THEY ALL ARE BUT OUR CITIZENS BEING INVOLVED IN THAT, WE CAN DO IT WITHOUT THEM AND THE COMMITTEES AND WHAT THEY BRING BACK TO THE BOARD.

>> THANKS FOR THE KINDS WORDS AND INSPIRATION TO GET THESE DONE.

IT IS A LOT OF TIME.

IT'S PART OF THE JOB, BUT IT'S REALLY FUN TOO, BECAUSE THIS IS A VERY SAVVY, VERY EDUCATED COMMUNITY AND THEY PROVIDE A LOT OF GOOD INPUT.

I REALLY THINK THAT THIS IS ALL AN INVESTMENT FOR THE FUTURE.

AND LEARNING FROM THINGS THAT MISTAKES, LEARNING AND GROWING AND COMING TOGETHER, LOOKING AT ROOT CAUSES IS IMPORTANT AND THAT'S WHAT'S HAPPENING AT THIS WORK.

SO IT'S WORTH IT.

I MAY HAVE TO GET MY KIDS TO COME TO THESE COMMITTEES SO THEY SEE ME MORE OFTEN, BUT THAT'S OKAY. THAT'S ANOTHER STORY.

>> JUST TO COMMENT FOR OUR STUDENT ADVISORY COMMITTEE.

WHEN WE GO TO OUR [INAUDIBLE] CONFERENCE, OUR SCHOOL BOARD CONFERENCE EVERY NOVEMBER, ALL OF THE TALK IS WHO ARE YOUR SCHOOL BOARD WRAPS? DO YOU HAVE SCHOOL BOARD WRAPS? AND WE'VE DECIDED TO GO A DIFFERENT WAY IN OUR COMMUNITY RATHER THAN HAVING ONE OR TWO KIDS THAT REPRESENT THE WHOLE DISTRICT, WE HAVE A COMMITTEE OF YOU AND I WANT TO REALLY LISTEN HARD FOR WHAT VALUE ARE THOSE KIDS BRINGING AND MAKE SURE THAT WE ARE HAVING A DIALOGUE WITH THE STUDENT ADVISORY COMMITTEE TO MAKE SURE THAT WE'RE HEARING YOUR VOICES.

WE THINK WE HAVE A BETTER SYSTEM THAN JUST THE TWO KIDS ON A SCHOOL BOARD GIVING INPUT.

BUT I WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT WE'RE UTILIZING THAT AND THAT YOU GUYS FEEL LIKE, I LOVE THAT YOU'RE DOING PROJECTS THAT ARE REACHING OUT TO YOUR FELLOW STUDENTS.

BUT WHENEVER THERE'S CONCERNS OR WHATEVER TO FEED BACK UP TO US, HOPEFULLY WITH US ATTENDING YOUR MEETINGS WILL GET FURTHER INTO THAT BECAUSE I REALLY FEEL THE VALUE IN INVOLVING WAY MORE KIDS THAN TWO KIDS COME INTO A BOARD MEETING ONCE A MONTH.

>> I THINK HAVING YOU GUYS COME TO A WORKSHOP IS GOING TO BE REALLY VALUABLE TOO, SO WE'VE NEVER DONE THAT BEFORE.

SO I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO THAT.

>> THANK YOU FOR BEING OPEN TO THAT.

I THINK TRACY MENTIONED EARLIER, MAYBE IT WAS [INAUDIBLE].

WE HAD A GREAT TIME WITH THE BOYS SOCCER TEAM.

THAT'S SOME PICTURES FROM THE CONCESSION STAND.

JUST AWESOME WORK.

I WAS WORRIED WHEN THEY PUT ME ON THE CASH REGISTER, BUT I THINK MY DRAWER CAME OUT BALANCED.

I HAD JASON DOUBLE-CHECK IT.

AND WE JUST HAD A TON OF FUN WITH THESE STUDENTS AND THIS MEETING THE COMMUNITY DURING THE GAME.

AND IT WAS A GAME THAT WAS ACTUALLY SUPPOSED TO BE A LITTLE CLOSER AND CAMAS TOOK CARE OF BUSINESS, SO THAT MADE IT EVEN MORE FUN.

SO THANK YOU, [INAUDIBLE] AND TRACY FOR JOINING ME ON THAT.

>> COMMENT ON THAT. JUST TO ECHO EVERYTHING THAT YOU JUST SAID ABOUT BEING IN THE COMMUNITY AND COMMUNITY BEING A PART OF THE DISTRICT AND WORKING TOGETHER.

THE BOYS WAS JUST LIKE, WHAT? THAT'S THE SUPERINTENDENT.

NO WAY. LIKE THEY JUST DIDN'T THINK WE WOULD BE THERE AND THEN HEARING COMMENTS LIKE A BOARD MEMBER, THAT'S OKAY.

SO IT'S REALLY NICE TO BE OUT IN THE COMMUNITY AND TO BE INVOLVED IN THOSE EVENTS.

>> ABSOLUTELY. THERE'S A LOT OF FUN.

>> AT OUR CITY SCHOOLS MEETING, I INVITED THE MAYOR AND THE [LAUGHTER] POLICE CHIEF AND FIRE CHIEF TO WORK CONCESSIONS SOMETIMES, SO WHO KNOWS WHO WILL SHOW UP.

>> THEN AND THEN JASON REMINDED ME THAT HE WORKED THE GRILL BACK AT THE BEGINNING OF THE YEAR, SO WE MIGHT HAVE TO HAVE YOU BACK.

[LAUGHTER] LET'S SEE, GOING TO GET THROUGH THIS HERE.

LAST COUPLE SLIDES.

BOMNEY MENTIONED THE SIDE-BY-SIDE THEME, ESPECIALLY AT DOROTHY FOX.

THESE ARE SOME PICTURES FROM BOTH LACOMIS AND DOROTHY FOX.

THE ONE ON THE LEFT IS THEIR FALL LEARNING NIGHT. AMAZING STUFF.

YOU CAN SEE AGAIN, THE PARENTS AND THE STUDENTS WORKING SIDE-BY-SIDE LEARNING ABOUT THE LITERACY FOCUS IN THE CLASSROOM.

THE MIDDLE PICTURE, BOMNEY MENTIONED DODGEBALL.

I CALL THIS THE BILLY MADISON MOMENT OR SOME OF THE DADS.

I THINK TOOK A LITTLE BIT OF PRIVILEGE THERE WITH A DODGEBALL.

THEN THE PICTURE ON THE FAR RIGHT, THIS WAS IN THE MUSIC CLASSROOM WHERE YOU SEE THE PARENTS AND THE STUDENTS SIDE-BY-SIDE AND WORKING TOGETHER.

THE STUDENTS KNOCKED IT OUT OF THE PARK.

PARENTS, THEY DID OKAY.

THEN I WANTED TO REITERATE THE CAMAS BOOSTERS OR HAVING THE TEACHER TALENT SHOWCASE IN CASE YOU MISSED IT.

FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 3RD, 7 O'CLOCK, FREE OF CHARGE AT THE GARVER THEATER.

I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO THAT.

I DO WANT TO GIVE A SHOUT OUT TO MAYOR HOGAN AND MR. MAZZINI, AS WELL AS OUR FORMER STUDENTS, SAM, WHO IS A HAZE STUDENT.

MAYOR HOGAN ANNOUNCED THAT OCTOBER 30TH,

[01:30:01]

WHICH IS COMING UP ON MONDAY, I BELIEVE, IS NOW GOING TO BE CAMAS BAND DAY FOREVER AND EVER AND EVER.

THERE WAS A PROCLAMATION THERE.

THAT WAS A STUDENT INSPIRED DAY.

THE MAYOR TOOK THE, I WAS GOING TO SAY THE BALL, BUT I'LL SAY THE TUBA AND RAN WITH IT.

THAT'S EVER IN OUR CITY POLICY.

WITH THAT SAID, THANK YOU FOR ALL THE SUPPORT.

A LOT OF WORK, BUT IT'S GOOD STUFF AND APPRECIATE.

I'LL PASS THE MIC BACK TO YOU.

>> THANK YOU. ANYTHING ELSE FOR DR. INSUN. THANK YOU.

NEXT UP 10B ON THE AGENDA IS OUR MONTHLY BUDGET REPORT AND JASON MICKEY.

>> GOOD EVENING. LET'S SEE.

I SKIPPED AHEAD. THIS EVENING, I WANT TO COVER A FEW DIFFERENT THINGS.

THIS WEEK ACTUALLY IS THE STATUTORY DEADLINE FOR SUBMITTING THE ANNUAL REPORT FOR THE PREVIOUS YEAR.

RIGHT IN THE THROES OF BASICALLY ALL OUR YEAR-END CLOSING RIGHT NOW.

ALSO DOING A BUDGET STATUS FOR THIS CURRENT FISCAL YEAR OR SO.

THIS FOR THIS REPORT WILL SPAN BOTH YEARS.

THEN I WANT TO TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THE UPCOMING REPLACEMENT LEVEES AND THE EXPECTED TIMELINE THERE.

START OFF WITH THE 22, 23 FISCAL YEAR-END.

THIS OF COURSE, I ALWAYS HAVE TO SAY IT'S UNAUDITED.

WE DON T GET AUDITED UNTIL AFTER THE FIRST YEAR.

IT'LL GET OFFICIALLY CLOSE.

BUT THIS, WHAT YOU'RE GONNA SEE TONIGHT HAS GOT TO BE REALLY CLOSE TO THE FINAL.

WE ENDED THE YEAR WITH A PLANNED USE OF FUND BALANCE.

THAT'S THE $3.2 MILLION DEFICIT THAT WE HAD PLANNED TO INVEST.

THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN A LITTLE BIT MORE TO BE HONEST, BUT THERE WAS A FEW THINGS THAT HAPPENED ON THE REVENUE SIDE THAT WERE UNEXPECTED DURING THE COURSE OF THE YEAR.

IT CLOSE THAT GAP.

FROM BUDGET OF AROUND FIVE.

WE HAD SOME STRONG FIELD RENTALS.

THE MIRRORS PROGRAM JUST CONTINUES TO FLOURISH.

I THINK SHE'S GOT TO BE EXCEEDING PRE-COVID LEVELS.

FRANKLY. I THINK PEOPLE WERE ALMOST HAD THAT PINNED END UP DEMAND AND WANT TO GET THEIR KIDS INTO DIFFERENT ACTIVITIES.

IT'S BEEN REALLY NICE TO SEE.

ALSO, THERE ARE SOME DISPARATE ENROLLMENT CAME IN A LITTLE HIGHER THAN WHAT WE HAD EXPECTED LAST YEAR, ABOUT 12%.

THAT BUMPED UP THAT FUNDING SOURCE AS WELL.

THEN WE ALSO HAD, AS WE'VE TALKED ABOUT MULTIPLE TIMES, SOME COVID RELIEF FUNDS THAT CAME IN 22, 23.

BASICALLY WHERE WE HAD PLANNED TO BE AS FAR AS OUR BEGINNING FUND BALANCE GOING INTO THIS YEAR IS RIGHT WHERE WE ENDED.

I THINK WE'RE WITHIN PROBABLY $100,000 OF THE APPROVED BUDGET SO WE'RE VERY CLOSE AT THE END OF THE DAY.

>> A JASON, JUST ONE QUESTION FOR YOU.

WHEN WE WERE TALKING ABOUT SPED ENROLLMENT BEING 12.1% HIGHER.

THAT MEANS WE GET INCREASED FUNDING FOR THAT.

BUT WE DIDN'T GET ALL OF THOSE COSTS COVERED THAN NECESSARILY TO WELL, HOW DO WE DO WITH SAFETY NET?

>> WE DID GOOD WITH SAFETY NET.

BUT THEY'RE STILL PROBABLY ONE OF THE HIGHEST YEARS THAT I CAN RECALL, RIGHT AROUND 1.6 MILLION.

I WANT TO SAY WHEN I FIRST CAME TO THE DISTRICT EIGHT YEARS AGO, I THINK WE WERE MAYBE 2, 300000 AND SAFETY NET.

KUDOS TO ALAN FLETCHER AND HIS TEAM.

THAT WAS ONE OF THE MAJOR INITIATIVES THAT HE HAD.

KEEP IN MIND, AS I MENTIONED, THAT ONETIME RELIEF FUNDING IS BUILT INTO THIS ABOUT 1.5 MILLION.

IT WAS SPRINKLED ACROSS DIFFERENT GRANT FUNDS.

WHAT HAVE YOU THAT WE RECEIVED IN 22, 23 THAT WE WON'T BE RECEIVING 23, 24.

THIS IS ALL INCORPORATED INTO OUR BUDGET THAT WAS APPROVED, BUT IT'S ALWAYS WANTED TO REMIND FOLKS THAT WE'RE GETTING ON THE TAIL END OF THAT.

WE COULD PLAN FOR THE SR FUNDS.

BUT WHAT TENDED TO HAPPEN WAS THAT THE STATE WAS SPRINKLING OUT SOME GRANTS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR OR SOME SOME ADDITIONAL FUNDING DURING THE SESSION THAT WE COULDN'T REALLY PLANNED FOR.

WE'RE GLAD THAT WE GOT THAT HELP CLOSE THAT DEFICIT GAP THAT WE WERE GOING TO EXPERIENCE LAST YEAR.

THEN JUST LOOKING AHEAD AGAIN, I KNOW YOU'VE GOT A PLANNED USE OF FUND BALANCE,

[01:35:03]

BUT I'D BE REMISS IF I DIDN'T SAY FROM MY POSITION THAT WE CAN'T BE IN A DEFICIT IN PERPETUITY.

GOT TO KEEP OUR EYE ON THE BALL AND WE CAN USE THAT FUND BALANCE, BUT THAT'S JUST A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME AND WE NEED TO LIVE, IF YOU WILL, WITH AN ARMY.

LOOKING AT THE OTHER FUNDS AND HOW THEY ENDED CAPITAL PROJECTS, THIS IS ACTUALLY ONE OF THE REPLACEMENT LEVEES THAT WE'LL BE TALKING ABOUT HERE SOON.

FOR THE TECHNOLOGY AND CAPITAL MAINTENANCE ACTIVITY HAPPENS IN CAPITAL PROJECTS.

OUR TECHNOLOGY INVESTMENTS ARE THE THINGS THAT YOU WOULD EXPECT FROM BOOKS FOR STUDENTS, COMPUTERS FOR STAFF, ALL THE SECURITY CAMERAS AND ASSOCIATED HARDWARE.

ALL OF THAT IS REALLY FUNDED THROUGH THAT TECHNOLOGY LEVY, THE CAPITAL MAINTENANCE. THE VOTERS APPROVED THAT.

WE TOLD THE VOTERS THAT WE WOULD PUT A NEW ROOF ON PRUNED HILL BACK.

WE WOULD REPLACE SOME FIRE PROTECTION SYSTEMS AT EARTHY FOX AND SHERMAN'S HERE AND HE'S PROBABLY.

FIVE DIFFERENT SCHOOLS, THERE'S QUITE A FEW SO CHECK THAT OFF.

THE OTHER THING THAT WE HAD, THERE WERE TWO OTHER THINGS THAT WE WANTED TO ACCOMPLISH IN THE SCOPE OF THAT LEVY AND THAT WAS A PHASE ONE ROOF REPLACEMENT AT CAMAS HIGH, WHICH WILL BE ON THE DOCKET FOR THIS COMING CONSTRUCTION SEASON, THIS COMING SUMMER, AND THEN THE SKYBRIDGE BOILER ROOM.

OVERALL PRETTY HAPPY.

IT'S LOOKING LIKE WE'RE ABLE TO DELIVER ON ALL OF THOSE THINGS THAT WE SAID THAT WE WOULD SHOW WAS A LITTLE WORRIED WITH INFLATION AND THE COST OF EVERYTHING.

BUT SHERMAN DOES, HE'S PRETTY AMAZING.

PARTY TRACH COLLAR AS WELL. PRETTY GOOD.

THEN THE TRANSPORTATION VEHICLE FUND, THIS IS WHERE WE ORDER OUR BUSES THROUGH AND SO WE RECEIVE FUNDING FROM THE STATE DEDICATED FOR THESE PURCHASES.

WE JUST FULFILLED HER ORDER FROM AUGUST 2021.

YOU'LL SEE TONIGHT, I THINK ON THE AGENDA AS A PURCHASE AND IT'S A LARGE LARGE ORDER, 11 BUSES.

THAT'S BASICALLY TWO YEARS WORTH OF BUS ORDERS.

WE JUST COULDN'T REALLY BRING OURSELVES TO ORDER MORE BUSES WHEN WE HAD A TWO-YEAR BACK-ORDER ON SIX.

WE NEEDED TO SEE A LITTLE BIT MORE STABILITY IN THAT SUPPLY CHAIN.

WE'RE STILL WORRIED ABOUT THE COST OF THESE VEHICLES HAS GONE UP 50, 60% IN SOME CASES.

IT'S GOING TO BECOME MUCH MORE DIFFICULT INTO THE FUTURE.

IF THE IF THE STATE DOESN'T CHANGE SOME OF THAT FUNDING AROUND FOR OUR FLEET.

ANYWAYS, BUT WE'RE HAPPY TO GET ANOTHER ORDER GOING BECAUSE WHEN THESE BUSES FALL OFF OF DEPRECIATION, WE DON'T RECEIVE THAT FUNDING FOR THEM ANYMORE.

WE'VE CARRIED SOME BUSES LONGER THAN WHAT WE REALLY SHOULD, BUT HAD NO CHOICE BECAUSE THEY WEREN'T. ORDERS WERE NOT.

THEN DEBT SERVICE, REALLY NORMAL ACTIVITY.

WE PAID OUR DEBT OBLIGATIONS.

CHECK ASB, ACTIVE AGAIN POST-COVID WAS REALLY THE FIRST FULL YEAR WHERE WE FLOURISHED ALL THE PROGRAMS AND WHAT HAVE YOU.

THESE GRAPHS ARE PRETTY STANDARD WHAT I HAVE PROVIDED IN THE PAST, BUT THIS IS JUST FOR THE WHOLE YEAR.

THERE IS NO PROJECTED IS REALLY ACTUAL, IF YOU WILL.

AS I MENTIONED, THAT THERE WAS THAT PLANNED GAP PLANNED USE OF FUND BALANCE TO FILL THAT GAP, EXCUSE ME.

I'M GOING TO GO ONTO THE NEXT YEAR, SEPTEMBER.

ARE THERE ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT LAST YEAR? I'LL GIVE SOME MORE INFORMATION AFTER WE GET THINGS FULLY FINALIZED, BUT THIS IS FRESH OFF THE PRESS WHO WANTED TO GET IT INTO THIS MEETING.

WE'LL TALK A LITTLE BIT MORE ABOUT SOME TRENDS DURING THE COURSE OF THE YEAR.

LOOKING AT 23-24, IT'S EARLY OBVIOUSLY SEPTEMBER IS CALENDAR NUMBER 1/12, FOR FISCAL YEAR.

I LIKE TO FIRST TALK ABOUT ENROLLMENT AND THIS IS THE TIME OF YEAR WHEN WE'RE REALLY HONING IN ON IT.

ALTHOUGH THIS IS A SEPTEMBER REPORT, I'M INCLUDING THE MOST CURRENT NUMBERS OF OCTOBER COUNT SINCE IT'S AVAILABLE.

OVERALL, WHEN YOU LOOK AT OUR BASIC ED AND ALE,

[01:40:02]

WHICH IS ALE IS OUR ALTERNATIVE LEARNING, WHICH IS OUR CAMPUS CONNECT ACADEMY.

COMBINED WERE ABOUT 48 FTE BELOW FORECAST.

WE'RE NOT WHERE WE HAD HOPED WE WOULD BE.

LOOKING AT YOU START TO COMPARE.

WHERE DID THAT COMPARE WITH WHERE WE ENDED LAST YEAR IT'S ABOUT EARLY ONE KIDS, I THINK.

LESSON WHERE WE ENDED.

WE'RE LAGGING A LITTLE BIT HERE.

IF I HAD TO HONE IN ON ONE PARTICULAR AREA, WAS LIKE I'D MENTIONED BEFORE, IS THAT KINDERGARTEN CLASS AND WE'RE RIGHT AROUND 400 AND WE WERE REALLY HOPING, ANTICIPATING CLOSER TO 435, WHICH IS MORE TRADITIONAL KINDERGARTEN.

>> ALMOST ALL OF OUR ENROLLMENT DEFICIT FOR LACK OF BETTER TERM, IS IN KINDERGARTEN THEN?

>> WELL, I LIKE TO SAY THAT'S THE ONE THAT STANDS OUT IF YOU WILL.

>> WHICH I THINK JUST SPEAKS TO THE COST OF LIVING YOUNG FAMILIES COMING IN.

>> YEAH AND IT'S THIS THING THAT WE MAY NEED TO PIVOT A LITTLE BIT.

WE'VE ALL KNOWN THAT BIRTH RATES PER DAY.

IT ACTUALLY, BIRTH RATES BECAME EVEN MUCH LOWER THROUGH THE COVID PANDEMIC AND SO THAT'S TELLING US THAT WE MAY NEED TO MAYBE TONE OR FUTURE FORECASTS DOWN A LITTLE BIT.

GIVEN THIS PARTICULAR TREND, WE'LL SEE HOW THINGS PAN OUT THIS YEAR.

KEEP IN MIND LAST YEAR, OUR ENROLLMENT GREW ALMOST 1% FROM OCTOBER.

WILL THAT TREND CONTINUE BECAUSE THAT WAS NOT I WOULD SAY CUSTOMARY FOR US.

THAT WAS A LITTLE BIT UNIQUE.

>> I ALSO THINK SOME ON THAT KINDERGARTEN NOTE, I KNOW MARY'S PROGRAMS, HER PRESCHOOL PROGRAMS ARE FULL AND SO WE TALK ABOUT PRESCHOOL AND GETTING KIDS INTO OUR SYSTEM AT THE PRE-K LEVEL.

WHETHER THAT HELPS ONCE THEY'RE IN THERE TO GET THEM TO THE KINDERGARTEN, I KNOW WE TALK ABOUT MARY'S PROGRAMS AND HOW DO WE GET MORE PRESCHOOL AVAILABILITY BECAUSE JUST WAITLIST FOR A LOT OF THOSE, AND SO COULD THAT HELP US WITH OUR ENROLLMENT, ALSO IF WE WERE ABLE TO EXPAND OUR PRE-K ALSO?

>> JUST REALLY QUICKLY, JASON, ON THAT NOTE, WE'RE ABSOLUTELY LOOKING AT WAYS TO EXPAND AND PROVIDE MORE CAPACITY.

THERE'LL BE SOME TALKS IN THE NEXT FEW MONTHS AND HOW WE CAN DO THAT, BUT WE ALSO KNOW THAT CHEMISTS SCHOOL DISTRICT ISN'T THE ONLY GAME IN TOWN FOR OUR FAMILIES.

WE'RE ALWAYS COMPETING AGAINST MORE AND MORE CHARTER OPPORTUNITIES AND PRIVATE OPPORTUNITIES.

IT'S REALLY IMPORTANT WE CONTINUE TO MARKET OUR PROGRAMS, CELEBRATE OUR SUCCESSES, AND LET PEOPLE KNOW THAT THIS IS THE BEST PLACE OR THEIR KIDS TO BE, BUT I THINK COREY'S POINT IS REALLY MOST ACCURATE WHERE WE JUST MET WITH CITY SCHOOLS TODAY, AND THEY SAID THAT THERE'S JUST NOT ENOUGH BUILDING OF HOMES THAT ARE AFFORDABLE FOR OUR YOUNG FAMILY, SO THE CITY KNOWS ABOUT IT.

THERE ARE CLEAR ON IT.

THE STATE KNOWS WE'RE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER, BUT WE'RE JUST GOING TO KEEP MARKETING AND SHARING OUR SUCCESSES AND HOPEFULLY THOSE FAMILIES WILL BE ABLE TO GET HERE.

>> YOU KNOW THAT THIS WAS PERFECT ON THE BACKSIDE OF THEIR MAGAZINE HERE.

>> THAT WAS PRETTY NIFTY, WASN'T AT THAT PUBLICATION.

I WAS LIKE, I DIDN'T KEEP MY EYES OFF, BUT SO MOVING ON FROM ENROLLMENT, WHEN YOU JUST LOOK AT THE ACTUAL FUND ACTIVITY FOR THE MONTH OF SEPTEMBER, THERE'S REALLY NOT A GREAT DEAL TO REPORT.

ULTIMATELY, IT'S THE FIRST MONTH OF THE YEAR.

IT DOESN'T REFLECT THE NEWEST CONTRACT COSTS THAT WE JUST AGREED TO.

IT'S REALLY WHEN WE'RE PROJECTING, WE'RE PRETTY MUCH JUST ON BUDGET AND IT'S EVEN STILL I THINK, TOO EARLY TO EVEN HAVE IT TOO MUCH, JUST EVEN AROUND THAT ENROLLMENT FIGURE, WE HAVE TO GET A LITTLE DEEPER INTO THE YEAR.

SEE HOW THINGS MATURE.

KEEP IN MIND THE FIRST FEW MONTHS OF THE YEAR, WE ACTUALLY RECEIVE OUR STATE APPORTIONMENT BASED UPON BUDGETED ENROLLMENT AND THEN THERE'S A TRUE UP IN THE LATTER PART OF THE YEAR.

THERE IS THAT BUFFERING THAT THE STATE OFFERS SCHOOL DISTRICTS, SO IF YOU'RE PROJECTING THE SLIDE THOUGH.

ANY QUESTIONS?

>> NO, I JUST WANT TO EMPHASIZE THAT YOU SAID THIS DOES NOT REFLECT OUR MOST RECENT CONTRACT THAT WE SIGNED WITH ALL OF OUR BARGAINING UNITS.

IT'S NOT IN HERE YET.

THAT'S CORRECT. THE TIMING, YOU THINK OF WE WERE WRAPPING THOSE UP IN

[01:45:03]

SEPTEMBER AND THEN FORMALIZING AND RATIFYING THOSE.

I THINK THE VERY FIRST I WANT TO SAY THE SECOND MEETING IN SEPTEMBER, IT WAS THE FIRST OPPORTUNITY WELL, PAYROLL HIT RUN BASICALLY.

IT'S GOING TO BE PROBABLY INTO DECEMBER BEFORE WE HAVE A COUPLE OF GOOD, SOLID MONTHS.

LET'S SEE WHAT TRUE DOLLAR IMPACT THESE CONTRACTS WE'LL HAVE WE FELT GOOD ABOUT OUR ESTIMATIONS OBVIOUSLY DURING THE COURSE OF THE SUMMER, BUT YOU NEVER REALLY KNOW UNTIL YOU GET THEM INTO PRACTICE.

REPLACEMENT LEVIES.

FIRST WANTED TO TALK ABOUT THAT THERE'S WEEK ACTUALLY LEVY TAXES FOR THREE DIFFERENT PURPOSES AND THERE'S ACTUALLY A FOURTH PURPOSE THAT A SCHOOL DISTRICT COULD TAX FOR, BUT AMAZON HAS CHOSEN NOT TO, AND THAT'S ACTUALLY FOR TRANSPORTATION FOR BUSES.

MANY MOONS AGO, I THINK WE HAD ONE, BUT THAT WAS WELL BEFORE ANY OF US, I THINK FOR US.

REALLY WE JUST HAVE THE THREE AND THE TWO THAT I'VE HIGHLIGHTED HERE AND IN OPERATIONS, THE EP&O OR EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS AND OPERATIONS LEVY THAT GOES TO OUR GENERAL FUND.

AND THAT'S OUR BASICALLY OUR LARGEST ONE THAT WE TEND TO TALK ABOUT QUITE A BIT.

IT'S RIGHT AT ABOUT 18 MILLION ROUGHLY A YEAR AND THAT ACCOUNTS FOR ABOUT SOMEWHERE BETWEEN 15-17 PERCENT OF OUR OVERALL REVENUE BUDGET DEPENDS UPON THE YEAR.

IT'S SUBSTANTIAL AND IT'S ONE THAT WE TALKED ABOUT A GREAT DEAL.

OUR CURRENT RATE RIGHT NOW THAT YOU WOULD SEE ON YOUR TAX BILL AS A RESIDENT WOULD BE $1.90 FOR THAT LEVY.

WE ALSO CHARGE, OR WE LEVY FOR TECHNOLOGY AND CAPITAL.

THIS IS MUCH SMALLER.

THAT RATE IS $0.41 PER THOUSAND CURRENTLY.

BUT AGAIN, WE STRETCH THOSE DOLLARS TO QUITE A BIT.

THAT'S REALLY FUN SO MUCH OF WHAT SHERMAN IS ABLE TO RIDE FOR OUR STUDENTS AND STAFF AND AND THE CAPITAL MAINTENANCE.

THE THIRD IS THE BOND LEVY OR THE DEBT SERVICE.

WE RUN THIS BOND.

ONCE WE ISSUE THE BONDS, WE ARE REPAY THOSE OVER 15 YEARS TYPICALLY.

THAT CURRENT RATE IS ABOUT $1.26, I BELIEVE, AND GENERALLY STAYS PRETTY LEVEL OVER THE COURSE OF THE YEAR.

WHEN WE'RE TALKING REPLACEMENT LEVY, IT'S THESE TWO THE EP&O OPERATIONS AND THEN THE TECH CAPITAL.

THE REPLACEMENT LEVEES CYCLE I WE ARE TARGETING FEBRUARY 13TH, SPECIAL ELECTION 2024 TO PUT THESE BEFORE THE VOTERS.

I'M WORKING BACKWARDS FROM THAT TARGET.

THE FIRST DEADLINE IS MIDDLE OF DECEMBER.

WE HAVE TO HAVE APPROVED RESOLUTIONS SUBMITTED TO THE COUNTY.

WE ALSO HAVE TO DO AN APPOINTMENT OF A FOR AND AGAINST COMMITTEE MEMBERS, WHICH THIS WOULD BE THE SECOND LEVY CYCLE THAT I THINK WE'VE DONE THAT IT'S A RELATIVELY NEW LEGAL REQUIREMENT.

WE ADVERTISE THAT WE'RE DOING THIS AND INTERESTED APPLICANTS OR TO CONTACT DETAIL.

THEN WE CONSIDER THEM AT THE NOVEMBER 27TH BOARD MEETING, WHICH AT THAT TIME WERE EXPECTING THE BOARD TO APPROVE THE FINAL LEVY RESOLUTIONS IN TIME TO MEET THAT DECEMBER 15TH DEADLINE.

KEEP IN MIND, THERE'S A FEW DIFFERENT THINGS THAT WE HAVE TO DO IN THOSE RESOLUTION IS NOT JUST THE AMOUNT.

WE HAVE TO ESTIMATE THE RATE.

WE HAVE TO DECIDE ON THE NUMBER OF YEARS.

WE HAVE RAN THREE AND FOUR-YEAR LEVIES.

HISTORICALLY, THERE IS A BOARD'S CHOICE.

UPON THE CYCLE, YOU CAN MAKE THE DECISION ONE WAY OR THE OTHER.

I THINK THE CAPITAL HONESTLY COULD GO OUT, I BELIEVE SIX YEARS IS THE LONGEST TERM.

EP&O AND NOSE FOR THAT.

WE TYPICALLY KEEP THEM TOGETHER.

WE DON'T TYPICALLY PUT THEM OFF.

HERE'S A PUBLIC NOTICE OF SOLICITING FOR AND AGAINST MEMBERS.

[01:50:04]

THAT'LL RUN IN THE LOCAL PAPER FOR A COUPLE OF WEEKS AND JUST PRIOR TO THAT WILL ALSO BE DOING THE BOARD WORKSHOP, DISCUSS LEVY SCENARIOS AND START TO DIG IN TO THAT NEXT LEVEL OF DETAIL.

THIS IS THE TIMELINE FOR THIS PROCESS THAT WE DO EVERY FEW YEARS.

IT'S GOOD.

IT'S AN EXCITING PROCESS I THINK, TO REVISIT YOUR FUNDING AND YOU GET A CHANCE TO TALK ABOUT WHAT WE USE THESE LEVY DOLLARS FOR, AND START TO LOOK AT IT AND I WILL TELL YOU IT IS INGRAINED WITHIN THE FABRIC OF THE ORGANIZATION.

HARDLY GO INTO ANY PARTICULAR DEPARTMENT TO CLUB.

ATHLETIC EVENT. OUR LEVY IS SO CRITICAL BECAUSE IT PAYS FOR SO MANY OF THOSE THINGS.

A COUPLE OF THINGS I WANTED TO TOUCH ON THAT I GET COMMON QUESTIONS ON.

I WAS LIKE, WELL, I'M JUST GOING TO PROVIDE THIS INFORMATION UPFRONT THERE'S ALWAYS BOTH WAYS OUT.

LOOKING AT LEVY COMPARABLES, AND I'M PUTTING ALL THE THREE DIFFERENT TYPES OF LEVIES ALL INTO ONE OVERALL RATE.

THE BLUE IS EP&O AND ORANGE IS TECHNOLOGY, AND THEN THE GRAY IS BOND.

YOU CAN SEE SECOND FROM THE BOTTOM HERE, CAMAS WERE SECOND HIGHEST IN CLARK COUNTY RIGHT NOW.

THAT'S TRADITIONALLY WHERE WE'VE BEEN, WE'VE BEEN AT THAT ONE OR TWO LEVEL.

TYPICALLY, WHEN YOU LOOK AT THE OTHER DISTRICTS IN THE COUNTY, OUR RATES RIGHT NOW, AS I MENTIONED BEFORE, $0.41 FOR THE TECH CAPITAL, $1.26 FOR THE BOND, AND $1.90 FOR THE MAINTENANCE OR EP&O OPERATIONS.

RECENT ELECTIONS.

I THINK THIS IS SOMETHING THAT'S REALLY IMPORTANT TO LOOK.

IT'S A SIGNAL OF VOTER SENTIMENT.

I WILL SAY THIS TIMES HAVE CERTAINLY CHANGED.

YOU LOOK BACK OVER MANY YEARS WE WERE SEEING APPROVAL RATES IN THE 60% RANGE.

WE HAVEN'T SEEN THAT OF LATE.

AS A MATTER OF FACT, I'D SAY IT'S A LITTLE LESS THAN 50% APPROVAL RATE OF OUR OPERATIONAL LEVIES FOR OTHER DISTRICTS.

GOING BACK THREE YEARS IN FEBRUARY, WAS FOR CAMAS PASSED BATTLE GROUND, THEY HAD TO GO BACK OUT.

THEN THE FOLLOWING YEAR, IT WAS ABOUT A 50/50 SPLIT BETWEEN YES AND NO, AND THEN LAST YEAR YOU FAILED ONE, ONE PASSED.

THESE ARE THINGS THAT WE NEED TO PAY ATTENTION TO AS A DISTRICT COORDINATES ARE COMMUNITY LOOKING FOR FROM US IN OUR LEVIES.

>> SPECIFICALLY WHAT YOU'RE LOOKING AT THERE IS FEBRUARY ELECTIONS FOR THE EP&O LEVY?

>> CORRECT. YEAH. THERE'S LIKE BONDS OR OTHER LEVIES.

I DIDN'T FACTOR THOSE IN.

>> YEAH AND GRANTED, THE ONES THAT ARE NO WHERE A LOT OF THEM WERE RAN AGAIN IN APRIL AND ULTIMATELY PASSED, BUT WE DID SEE WOODLAND DID NOT THIS LAST YEAR.

WASN'T IT WOODLAND? THE FACT THAT WE'RE SEEING THAT IN OUR REGION IS CONCERNING.

>> THIS CYCLE, I THINK BATTLE GROUND IS CONSIDERING A CAPILLARY.

WOODLAND'S RUNNING AGAIN.

I THINK THERE'S A THIRD, BUT I'M NOT 100% SURE.

THAT ONE ESCAPES ME, BUT I'LL HAVE THAT FOR YOUR WORKSHOP.

ANY OTHER QUESTIONS OR THOUGHTS ON THAT?

>> YOU'RE NOT LOOKING FOR ANYTHING FROM US TONIGHT, THIS IS JUST SOME STUFF TO DIGEST BEFORE OUR NEXT WORKSHOP THEN?

>> IT'S SETTING THE STAGE BECAUSE THERE'S A LOT TO BITE OFF WHEN YOU START TALKING ABOUT LEVIES, AND SO SPLIT IT UP BETWEEN A COUPLE OF MEETINGS.

THAT'S ALL I HAVE THEN.

>> ANY QUESTIONS FOR JASON? THANK YOU. OUR THIRD AND FINAL REPORT IS OUR QUARTERLY EQUITY REPORT.

KATIE SEIDEL, THANKS FOR HANGING IN THERE.

>> HI. WORTH THE WAIT, ALWAYS.

I DO THIS QUARTERLY AND BETWEEN QUARTER-TO-QUARTER.

[01:55:07]

SOMETIMES THERE'S DATA TO SHARE AND SOMETIMES THERE'S NOT.

TONIGHT I'M GOING TO PRESENT OUR SYSTEMS AND WHAT THEY'RE LOOKING LIKE RIGHT NOW AS THEY SET A FOUNDATION FOR THE YEAR AND FUTURE WORK AND THE ABILITY TO GATHER SOME ACCURATE DATA.

YOU'LL SEE WHAT I MEAN HERE IN JUST A MINUTE.

THIS IS OUR COMMITMENT.

"WE BELIEVE THE ENTIRE COMMUNITY BENEFITS WHEN EVERY CHILD SUCCEEDS.

THEREFORE, WE HAVE A COLLECTIVE RESPONSIBILITY AND REQUIRE ACCOUNTABILITY TO ENSURE THAT CHILDREN OF EVERY RACE, NATIONAL ORIGIN, LANGUAGE, RELIGION, GENDER, SEXUAL ORIENTATION, GENDER IDENTITY OR EXPRESSION, SOCIOECONOMIC STATUS, SOCIAL-EMOTIONAL WELL-BEING, AND ABILITY TO REACH THEIR FULL POTENTIAL." THAT'S OUR SCHOOL BOARD STATEMENT.

THIS FALL, ALL OF OUR ADMINISTRATORS, OUR PRINCIPALS AND DISTRICT LEADERSHIP HAVE BEEN READING THIS BOOK.

THIS IS REALLY A REALLY POPULAR BOOK REGIONALLY AS WELL ACROSS OUR REGION WITH THE SCHOOL DISTRICTS AND SCHOOL LEADERS.

IT'S CALLED BELONGING THROUGH A CULTURE OF DIGNITY.

THIS QUOTE IS A GREAT ONE ABOUT INCLUSION AND IT SETS THE STAGE FOR EQUITY WORK IN OUR DISTRICT.

IT SAYS, "INCLUSION IS ABOUT THE DESIGN, THE PROCESS THROUGH WHICH WE INTENTIONALLY CREATE THE ENVIRONMENT.

INCLUSION IS ABOUT PARTNERING WITH THE PEOPLE WE ARE SERVING AND CHANGING THE CULTURE SO THAT THEY EXPERIENCE ACCESS AND UNCONDITIONAL BELONGING.

THAT'S A DIFFERENT PARADIGM THAN EXPECTING PEOPLE TO CHANGE THEMSELVES IN ORDER TO FIT IN." OUR JOB, MY JOB IS TO HELP LEAD OUR SYSTEM'S CHANGE FOR INCLUSION SO THAT ALL OF OUR STUDENTS CAN EXPERIENCE THAT BELONGING.

AT THE DISTRICT LEVEL, THIS FEELS LIKE A LAUNDRY LIST.

BUT I WAS CONSIDERING WHAT ARE THE THINGS THAT WE ARE WORKING ON THAT I'M HELPING TO LEAD OR LEADING ON MY OWN, OR WORKING WITH OUR SCHOOL PRINCIPALS TO LEAD THAT WILL PROMOTE EQUITABLE OUTCOMES FOR OUR STUDENTS.

I KEEP STUDENTS AT THE CENTER OF ALL THAT I DO.

AT THE CENTER IS OUR EQUITABLE OUTCOMES FOR KIDS.

YOU CAN SEE THERE'S A WHOLE SMATTERING THEIR STARTING WITH OUR STRATEGIC PLANNING THAT WE'RE WORKING ON RIGHT NOW AND KEEPING EQUITY AT THE FOREFRONT OF THAT AND MTSS.

THAT IS A PROCESS, ESTABLISHING AN MTSS AND OUR DISTRICT.

THEN IN EACH OF OUR SCHOOLS IS HUGE, BUT WE'LL ALSO SET US UP TO BE ABLE TO COLLECT DATA IN RESPONSIBLE WAYS, AND TO SEE THAT WHAT WE'RE DOING IS MAKING AN IMPACT ON STUDENTS THAT HASN'T BEEN SOMETHING SUPER STRONG IN OUR DISTRICT OR JUST AN EDUCATION IN GENERAL.

IT'S REALLY EXCITING TO SEE US WORKING TOWARDS IMPROVING OUR GOALS AND OUR SYSTEMS THAT SUPPORT STUDENTS AND HAVING SOME EVIDENCE TO BACK THAT UP.

I ALSO AM WORKING ON OUR STUDENTS BELONGING.

I WAS REALLY PROUD JUST NOW, DR. ANZALONE, WHEN YOU INCLUDED THE ELEMENTS OF DIGNITY THAT'S COMING OUT OF THAT BOOK AND THE WORK THAT WE'RE DOING HERE.

THE WHOLE POINT OF THAT IS NOT NECESSARILY CHANGE, BUT TO JUST BE THE PEOPLE THAT WE NEED TO BE IN ORDER TO SUPPORT OUR STUDENTS AND TO HONOR THEIR DIGNITY IN ALL THAT WE DO.

THAT DOESN'T MEAN IT HAPPENS IN EVERY INTERACTION OR EVERY SETTING OR ALL THE TIME, BUT THAT'S WHAT WE'RE WORKING TOWARDS.

THAT'S REALLY EXCITING, THAT'S PERMEATING ALL OF OUR AREAS.

I'LL TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT OUR DISTRICT EQUITY TEAM IN A FEW MINUTES, OUR STUDENT ADVISORY COUNCIL.

YOU NOTICE THAT OUR STUDENTS, THEIR GOAL IS TO EMPOWER OUR YOUNGER STUDENTS WITH KINDNESS AND CONSIDERATION ABOUT HOW THEY TREAT OTHERS, WHICH IS INCREDIBLE.

I KNOW, THANK YOU SIMONE FOR SAYING.

THAT THEY'RE PASSIONATE ABOUT IT, AND I LOVE BEING A PART OF THAT.

WE ALSO ARE WORKING TOWARDS OUR CURRICULUM AND INSTRUCTION.

OUR STANDARDS-BASED LEARNING, OUR SCIENCE OF READING, OUR STRUCTURED LITERACY, THOSE ARE ALL ELEMENTS THAT CONTRIBUTE TO EQUITABLE OUTCOMES FOR KIDS AND HELPING TO LEAD OUR STANDARDS-BASED TEAM AT THE DISTRICT LEVEL WITH DRE GARNER WHO'S HERE TO AND WHO ALSO HELPED ME PLAN FOR THE DISTRICT EQUITY WORK, WHICH WAS GREAT AND AT LEAST AGGRESSIVE, OF COURSE.

WE'RE EXCITED TO GET THAT GOING IN A COUPLE OF WEEKS.

I'M HELPING TO LEAD OUR WAS INCLUSIONARY PRACTICES PROJECTS SO WE CAN TALK ABOUT INCLUSION AND WE CAN BE THE PEOPLE THAT ARE INCLUSIVE,

[02:00:03]

BUT WE ALSO HAVE TO HAVE THAT SHOW UP IN OUR SYSTEMS AND HOW WE OPERATE.

THAT PROJECT HAS BEEN REALLY VALUABLE IN HELPING US CONSIDER WHAT THAT LOOKS LIKE AT ALL THE LEVELS OF OUR DISTRICT.

THE OTHER TWO THERE ARE TWO THINGS THAT HAPPEN HERE AT ZACK.

OUR LEADERSHIP LAB IS FORMERLY KNOWN AS AD COUNCIL.

I FACILITATE THAT WITH DOUG, AND MARYLYN, AND LISA.

WE WORK TOWARDS GROWING LEADERSHIP CAPACITY WITH ALL OF OUR LEADERS.

THEY'RE THE ONES WHO ALSO READ THE BELONGING THROUGH A CULTURE OF DIGNITY BOOK, WHICH IS AN EQUITY FOCUS.

IT TALKS ABOUT WHY OUR EQUITY INITIATIVES FAIL, HOW TO AVOID THAT CYCLE, AND IT FINALIZES WITH DIGNITY, WHICH IS AWESOME.

WE WRAP THAT BOOK STUDY UP IN OUR LEADERSHIP LAB COMING UP.

FINALLY, OUR TRANSFORMATIONAL PROFESSIONAL LEARNING.

THAT IS ESSENTIALLY COACHING, LIKE TEACHING OUR ADULTS HAD TO BE FACILITATORS OF PROFESSIONAL LEARNING IN DYNAMIC MEANINGFUL WAYS SO THAT AS THEY IMPACT OTHER STAFF, IT'LL ALSO IMPACT OUR STUDENTS.

THAT'S A FEW THINGS THAT ARE HAPPENING HERE.

I'LL GET THROUGH SOME OF THEM, BUT ARE THEIR INITIAL QUESTIONS? I DO HAVE ONE QUESTION, AND I FEEL A LITTLE GUILTY FOR ASKING IT BECAUSE YOU'RE OBVIOUSLY DOING A LOT UP HERE.

I HAD A QUESTION FROM A COMMUNITY MEMBER ABOUT THE COMMUNITY EQUITY FORUMS THAT WE USED TO DO PRE-PANDEMIC.

I JUST WAS CURIOUS IF THAT'S SOMETHING THAT'S ON THE RADAR FOR COMING BACK OR LIKE I SAID, I SEE THAT YOU ARE DOING A LOT RIGHT NOW.

>> IT IS.

THAT'S ONE OF THOSE THINGS THAT'S ALSO REALLY VISIBLE, SO IT'S IMPORTANT TO HAVE.

I HAD SCHEDULED IT ON THE CALENDAR FOR THE END OF THIS MONTH IN, OUR INITIAL PROBE FOR THAT, FOR PEOPLE WHO WANTED TO VOLUNTEER, WENT TO A GROUP OF PEOPLE WHO HAD EXPRESSED INTEREST IN VOLUNTEERING AT THE DISTRICT LEVEL.

SO FAR MY UNDERSTANDING IS WE DON'T HAVE A LOT OF FEEDBACK FROM THAT YET.

MY NEXT STEP WILL BE TO REACH OUT TO DOREEN AND HAVE A MASS MESSAGE GO OUT FOR PEOPLE WHO ARE INTERESTED IN JOINING AND WHAT THAT'LL LOOK LIKE FOR THE YEAR. THAT'S THE PLAN.

>> THANK YOU.

>> YEAH.

SO SPECIFICALLY, WE HAD AN EVENT ON AUGUST 23RD.

THIS WAS OUR MANDATORY IN-SERVICE DAY FOR ALL STAFF.

THAT'S SHARI GOMEZ CLARK ON THE LEFT, AND ME IN THE CENTER, AND LISA IS ON THE RIGHT.

WE'RE A PRETTY FUN TEAM, SO THE THREE OF US FACILITATED A HALF-DAY OF LEARNING AT GARVER THEATER SO WE FIT AS MANY STAFF MEMBERS AS WANTED TO SHOW UP AT GARVER THEATER, WHICH WAS AWESOME.

IT WAS THE FIRST TIME GARVER HAD HOSTED LIKE A MIRROR, KEPT SAYING A MEETING LIKE THAT.

WITH THAT MANY PEOPLE SO THAT WAS REALLY EXCITING TO HAVE EVERYBODY BE IN THE SAME SPACE AND SHARE THAT SPACE THE GOAL WAS TO INTRODUCE MTSS TO OUR SYSTEM IN A WAY THAT EVERYONE COULD ACCESS THAT INFORMATION.

JUST CONNECTING IT WITH STORIES, AND LEARNERS, AND A VARIETY OF ABILITIES, AND DIVERSITY, AND VOICES THAT'S WHAT THE POINT OF THE WHOLE STAFF FACILITATION OR PROFESSIONAL LEARNING WAS ABOUT.

THEN THE SECOND PART WAS WE DEVELOPED WITH A TEAM OF PEOPLE WE DEVELOPED FOR MODULES FOR SITE-BASED FACILITATION.

I THINK I HAD MENTIONED IN THE SPRING, THIS WAS THE HOPE IT HAPPENED, IT WAS GREAT THAT WE WERE ABLE TO DO IT BUT WE CREATED SOME INTERACTIVE LEARNING SO PRINCIPLES, WERE ABLE TO CHOOSE BETWEEN THREE OF THE MODULES TO FACILITATE IN THEIR OWN BUILDINGS OR THEIR OWN SCHOOLS IN THE AFTERNOON THAT DAY AND THE FOURTH OPTION WAS FOR PEOPLE WHO DON'T SERVE IN A SCHOOL SETTING.

PEOPLE WHO SERVE OUR DISTRICT, BUT MAYBE SERVE STUDENTS INDIRECTLY.

IT WAS FANTASTIC, THE AMOUNT OF COLLABORATORS THAT WE HAD ON THAT DAY TO MAKE THAT PROJECT HAPPEN.

THERE'S BEEN A LOT OF POSITIVE FEEDBACK, SO IT'S A HUGE CELEBRATION.

IT WENT REALLY WELL, AND NOW WE HAVE TO CONTINUE THAT WORK BECAUSE IT'S NOT OVER.

THERE WAS THAT I MENTIONED THE DISTRICT EQUITY TEAM AND OUR FIRST MEETING IS ACTUALLY THIS WEDNESDAY MORNING, AND WHAT THAT LOOKS LIKE IS ITS REPRESENTATION FROM EACH SCHOOL BUILDINGS, SO AN ADMINISTRATOR AND THEN THEY CHOSE ONE OR TWO PEOPLE OR ASKED FOR ONE OR TWO PEOPLE TO JOIN THEM OUR GOAL IS TO FOLLOW UP FROM THAT MODULE, THAT EQUITY FORMAT MODULE FOR THE MTSS CONTENT, AND CONNECTING A LITTLE BIT DEEPER HOW MTSS, AND EQUITY ARE CONNECTED AT THE SCHOOL LEVEL.

[02:05:02]

THEN THE NEXT PIECE FOR THAT IS TO START BUILDING SOME ACTION PLANS AND EQUITY AUDITS.

WE'LL START WITH AN EQUITY AUDIT AT THE SCHOOL LEVEL, IN THE CLASSROOM LEVEL.

WHAT DOES THAT MEAN? WHAT DOES THAT LOOK LIKE? THAT HELPS US TO GENERATE SOME GOAL AREAS TO WORK ON SO THAT EACH SCHOOL CAN DETERMINE WHAT GOAL THEY'D LIKE TO WORK ON THIS YEAR AND WHAT THOSE ACTION STEPS MIGHT BE TO START WITH.

I MENTIONED LAST YEAR WE WERE WORKING TOWARDS IMPROVING OUR GENDER INCLUSIVE SCHOOLS, THAT WORK IS ONGOING.

I WAS ABLE TO ADAPT AND MODIFY A GENDER SUPPORT PLAN THAT I SHARED WITH PRINCIPALS AND COUNSELORS IN THE SPRING, AND THAT WAS THEIR INITIAL VIEW OF THAT THING.

THEIR FIRST READ IT, IF YOU WILL.

BUT WHAT THAT MEANS IS THAT THE PEOPLE WHO ARE USING THAT DOCUMENT, OR THAT PLAN, OR SUPPORTING IT, NEED TO KNOW HOW BEST TO USE IT.

THERE'S LOTS OF QUESTIONS ABOUT HOW THESE CONVERSATIONS HAPPEN WITH STUDENTS WITH WHOM, WHEN, WHO NEEDS TO BE PRESENT, WHEN DO WE HAVE A GENDER SUPPORT PLAN? I INCLUDED SHARIF, WHO IS OUR MTSS COORDINATOR, AND WE INCLUDED COUNSELORS FROM ELEMENTARY SCHOOL AND HIGH SCHOOL LEVELS.

WE DIDN'T HAVE ANY MIDDLE SCHOOL THAT WERE AVAILABLE OR WILLING TO JOIN US.

WE'RE WORKING TOWARD DEVELOPING PROTOCOLS FOR WHAT THAT LOOKS LIKE AT THE ELEMENTARY LEVEL, AND THE SECONDARY LEVEL WITH STUDENTS.

WE'RE STILL SEEING AN INCREASED NEED IN THIS TYPE OF SUPPORT IN OUR SCHOOLS, AND IN EDUCATION FOR OUR STAFF.

THIS IS ONGOING.

THIS IS SOMETHING THAT EVENTUALLY IF YOU HAVE A SYSTEM THAT'S SUPPORTIVE OF ALL STUDENTS, YOU WOULDN'T NECESSARILY NEED GENDER SUPPORT PLANS, BUT WE'RE STILL SEEING THAT NEED, SO HERE WE ARE.

IN ADDITION TO THAT SYSTEMS WORK, I JUST WANTED TO RECOGNIZE THAT WE STILL ARE HAVING INSTANCES OF HARM IN OUR SCHOOLS.

THESE THINGS TAKE PLACE REGULARLY.

THIS IS ALSO THE WORLD THAT WE LIVE IN AND NOT SOMETHING THAT WE'RE GOING TO EVER COMPLETELY PREVENT.

I DO WORK QUITE OFTEN WITH OUR SCHOOLS RESPONDING TO SOME INCIDENTS OF HARM.

SO FAR THIS YEAR, I'VE SEEN ATHLETICS, CLASSROOMS AND STAFF RELATED TO EQUITY.

SOME THINGS THAT ARE COMING UP AT THE SCHOOL LEVEL ARE, THIS IS ONGOING, TOO IS THE HOW DO WE CELEBRATE DIFFERENT HOLIDAYS AND CULTURES AND WHAT DOES THAT LOOK LIKE TO BE CULTURALLY INCLUSIVE, REPRESENTATIVE OF OUR COMMUNITY, AND RESPECTFUL.

THAT'S SOMETHING THAT I'M WORKING ON REGULARLY, BUT THAT'S OFTEN THOSE THINGS THAT POP-UP AND REQUIRE A QUICK RESPONSE OF SOME KIND.

THAT'S STILL ONGOING IN OUR SCHOOLS, AND A LOT OF WORKING ONE-ON-ONE WITH OUR PRINCIPLES, WHICH IS AWESOME TO HAVE RELATIONSHIPS THAT PRINCIPLES ARE ABLE TO REACH OUT, ASK FOR SUPPORT.

WE CAN TALK ON THE PHONE, I CAN SHOW UP, WE CAN WALK THROUGH SOMETHING TOGETHER.

I CAN TAKE SOMETHING ON FOR THEM, AND SO THAT'S BEEN THAT'S BEEN GREAT, AND HAS DEFINITELY INCREASED THIS YEAR.

THOSE RELATIONSHIPS HAVE GOTTEN STRONGER.

THIS IS ANOTHER PIECE THAT AT THE SYSTEM LEVEL IS EXCITING.

I GUESS IF YOU'RE INTO THIS THING.

THIS IS CALLED AN EQUITY DECISION-MAKING TOOL, AND IT'S SOMETHING THAT WE'RE WORKING ON TO ADOPT AS FAR AS A PROCESS THAT PROVIDES A SET OF QUESTIONS TO GUIDE LEADERS IN OUR SCHOOL DISTRICT.

TO LEARN THINGS, AND ADDRESS HOW RACE, AND EQUITY IMPACT OUR CHOICES, AND INSTRUCTION, PROGRAMMING, STAFFING, FUNDING, AND POLICY.

THESE THINGS EXIST IN ORGANIZATIONS AND SCHOOLS, AND WE DON'T HAVE ONE THAT WE'VE ACTUALLY ADOPTED OR MADE USABLE FOR US.

THAT'S ONE OF THOSE THINGS THAT HAS TO BE TAUGHT AS WELL.

THE MAIN COMPONENTS ARE SECTIONS OF THAT ARE WHO ARE YOU, WHO IS THE GROUP THAT YOU'RE MEETING WITH? WHO'S IN THE ROOM? WHOSE VOICES ARE BEING REPRESENTED NOW? WHO IS AFFECTED BY A CHOICE OR A POLICY THAT YOU'RE MAKING? WHAT ARE THE IMPACTS MAY BE UNINTENDED IMPACTS.

YOU CAN POTENTIALLY PREDICT? HOW WILL WE COMMUNICATE EITHER THIS DECISION, OR THE CHANGES, OR THE IMPACTS THAT THIS DECISION WILL HAVE, AND THEN THERE'S A REFLECTION PIECE, AND AN ACCOUNTABILITY, AND NEXT STEPS PIECE.

IDEALLY, THIS IS SOMETHING THAT AS IT BECOMES PART OF OUR CULTURE, WE PAUSE AND ARE ABLE TO STOP AND THINK ABOUT HOW OUR DECISIONS MIGHT IMPACT SOMETHING DOWN THE LINE.

I READ SOMETHING AS I WAS RESEARCHING THESE TOOLS ABOUT, ARE YOU CONSIDERING SEVEN GENERATIONS FROM NOW? THE IMPACTS OF THIS DECISION, WHICH FEELS REALLY BIG.

YOU DON'T ALWAYS HAVE TO OBVIOUSLY CONSIDER THAT, BUT IT'S SOMETHING TO CONSIDER.

THIS IS A PROCESS THAT IDEALLY WE CAN BRING FORWARD NOT ONLY AT THE DISTRICT LEVEL,

[02:10:06]

BUT IN OUR SCHOOL BUILDINGS AS WELL.

HERE'S MY LAST ONE. NORMALLY, I SHARE SOME PANORAMA DATA AROUND OUR BELONGING AND OUR WINDOW.

THE SURVEY WINDOW CLOSES THIS WEDNESDAY, SO STUDENTS ARE STILL TAKING THAT SURVEY.

WE'RE STILL COLLECTING THAT DATA.

I'M REALLY EXCITED FOR IT. IT'S ON MY CALENDAR.

I'M READY TO DIVE IN AND SEE IT WHEN IT COMES OUT.

JUST TO SEE WHERE WE'RE AT THAT'LL HELP US DETERMINE SOME OF OUR NEXT STEPS AS WELL, SO I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO THAT AND TO SHARING IT WITH YOU NEXT TIME TOO, AND WHAT WERE WHAT OUR PLANS ARE AROUND THAT.

THAT IS WHAT I HAVE FOR YOU TONIGHT.

WHAT ARE YOUR QUESTIONS?

>> JUST TO COMMENT. OBVIOUSLY, THERE'S A LOT OF PLATES SPINNING UP IN THE AIR AROUND YOU.

ALL SUPER IMPORTANT AND I'M REALLY EXCITED TO SEE IT ALL COME TOGETHER.

LIKE YOU SAID, IT'S NOT GOING TO SOLVE ALL THE PROBLEMS TODAY, BUT IT'S OUR JOURNEY, SO I APPRECIATE THE WORK YOU'RE DOING.

JUST ECHO THAT, APPRECIATE THEIR WORK AND IT'S 7: 45, AND LOOK HOW EXCITED YOU STILL ARE TO BE HERE, AND PRESENT THIS INFORMATION TO US.

[LAUGHTER] I CAN TELL HOW MUCH YOU LOVE IT.

I APPRECIATE YOU BEING HERE AND THE REPORTS THAT YOU GAVE US.

>> DEFINITELY WELL WORTH THE WAIT. THANK YOU.

TO A LOT OF WORK THAT SEEMS LIKE IT'S GOING BEHIND SCENES AND YOU DON'T HEAR OF IT. I APPRECIATE THE TIME.

>> I HAVE ONE PROCESS QUESTION REALLY QUICK.

WITH THE PANORAMA SURVEY, ARE YOU ABLE TO SEE WHAT TURNOUT OR PARTICIPATION IS LIKE RIGHT NOW? I'M JUST CURIOUS WHAT OUR ENGAGEMENT IS LIKE WITH THAT.

>> NO, HONESTLY, THE WINDOW WILL CLOSE ON THE 25TH AND THEN IT TAKES LIKE A DAY OR TWO.

LAST YEAR, IT TOOK A WEEK FOR THEM TO RELEASE EVEN THOUGH INITIAL RESULTS SO THERE WILL BE A SHORT WAITING PERIOD, BUT USUALLY IT'S A DAY OR TWO BEFORE WE GET JUST RAW DATA, SO WE CAN'T SEE WHAT THAT LOOKS LIKE RIGHT NOW.

OTHER THAN WE JUST KEEP ENCOURAGING, [OVERLAPPING] STAFF AND PRINCIPALS TO HAVE THEIR STUDENTS.

>> I KNOW HOW CRUCIAL THAT DATA IS TO WHAT WE DO WITH THE EQUITY WORK THANK YOU.

>> ONE QUICK QUESTION. THE EQUITY DECISION-MAKING TOOL, I IMAGINE THAT SOMETHING THAT WHEN IT'S OUT OF ITS DRAFT FORM OR WHATEVER, THE ROLLOUT TO US AS WELL.

I WOULD LOVE THAT.

>> SEEMS TO MAKE SENSE.

>> ANYTHING ELSE FOR KATIE? THANK YOU. APPRECIATE IT.

>> THANK YOU.

>> MOVES US DOWN TO ITEM 11A ON THE AGENDA UNDER OPEN AND EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION, WE HAVE A DRAFT CALENDAR FOR THE 2024/ 2025 SCHOOL YEAR.

NOT THIS SCHOOL YEAR, BUT NEXT SCHOOL YEAR.

IF WE WANT TO HAVE ANY DISCUSSION ON THESE. QUESTIONS?

>> THIS SEEMS REALLY EARLY TO BE TALKING ABOUT NEXT YEAR'S CALENDAR SO FAR.

I KNOW WE HAVE SOME POTENTIAL WORK TO DO IN OUR BALANCED CALENDAR AND LOTS OF DIFFERENT DECISIONS TO MAKE.

I AM FEELING LIKE MAYBE IT'S PREMATURE TO ADOPT A CALENDAR AT THIS POINT.

>> I WOULD ECHO THAT.

I DO FEEL LIKE IT'S A LITTLE EARLY.

THERE'S A FEW THINGS. EVEN HAVING THE LAST DAY OF SCHOOL IN THE 18TH AND THEN THE 19TH IS A HOLIDAY.

I KNOW IT'S HARD TO GET ALL THOSE THINGS EXACT.

ALSO, I KNOW I'M MAKING SURE THAT ALL THE GROUPS HAVE HAD A CHANCE TO WEIGH IN ON THIS.

WE ALSO COORDINATE SOME STUFF WITH OTHER DISTRICTS IN OUR AREA, AND I DON'T KNOW IF THOSE ARE OUT YET OR NOT AND JUST MAKING SURE THEY CAN'T ALWAYS ALL ALIGN.

BUT I KNOW THAT SOMETIMES WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT SPRING BREAKS AND CERTAIN THINGS LIKE THAT DO ALIGN.

I WASN'T SURE IF THAT HAD ALL HAPPENED YET.

>> THIS SEEMS TO BE BREAKING THAT UNSPOKEN AGREEMENT FOR SPRING BREAK IS THE FIRST FULL WEEK OF APRIL, WHICH WOULD BE ACTUALLY THE 7TH TO THE 11TH, THERE'S JUST A COUPLE OF DIFFERENT LITTLE DETAILS I THINK WE NEED TO NAIL DOWN.

>> THOSE ARE ALL GREAT QUESTIONS, SO I'LL PASS IT OFF TO GALE IN JUST A SECOND.

THERE WAS A COUPLE OF STRATEGIES TO GET IT OUT EARLY.

BY NO MEANS WE LOOKING FOR ADOPTION TONIGHT IF YOU'RE NOT COMFORTABLE WITH THAT.

JUST A COUPLE OF THINGS. ONE YES, COORDINATED WITH THE NEIGHBORING DISTRICTS ON SPRING BREAK, SO WE'RE ALL IN LINE THERE.

WHAT WAS THE OTHER ONE, TRACY, RIGHT BEFORE THE SPRING BREAK?

>> IT WAS JUST THE LAST DAY OF SCHOOL BEING ON THE ONE THE 18TH.

I KNOW WE HAVE THREE MAKEUP DAYS IN THERE, BUT SOMETIMES THOSE AREN'T ENOUGH AND SO WE'D BE WEDNESDAY AND THEN WE'D BE OFF THURSDAY, SO IT'S A HOLIDAY. THEN WE'D BE FRIDAY.

>> I WAS ALSO CURIOUS ON THAT TOO.

>> JUST A LITTLE. WE CAN ALWAYS HELP THAT SOMETIMES, BUT IT MAKES IT HARD TO SAY, WELL, NOW YOU GET THE DAY OFF AND THEN NOW YOU COME BACK ON A FRIDAY.

>> I WAS CURIOUS TOO BECAUSE THERE WAS NO MAKEUP DAY THAT WAS BUILT-IN IN MAY.

[02:15:01]

THE FIRST ONE BEING IN FEBRUARY WHERE IF PAST IS FUTURE OR WHATEVER, HOWEVER, THAT SAYING GOES, WE'VE HAD SNOW DAYS CLEAR INTO APRIL.

IT DOES WORRY ME A LITTLE BIT NOT HAVING A MAKEUP DAY BUILT-IN LATER.

>> WE CAN DEFINITELY GET TO THAT.

THE OTHER ONE, TRACY WAS THE GROUPS, ALL THE BARGAINING GROUPS.

IT'S BEEN VETTED BY ALL THE GROUPS.

BUT LET ME STICK TO GALE BECAUSE THERE WAS DEFINITELY SOME THOUGHT PROCESS BEHIND THE START AFTER LABOR DAY.

THEN OF COURSE, THE IMPACT OF THE BALANCED CALENDAR THAT WE ARE WORKING ON.

GALE, DO YOU WANT TO CHIME IN?

>> SURE. THE BIGGEST DRIVE FOR THIS CALENDAR AND COMING TO YOU RIGHT NOW AND THE WAY IT'S DESIGNED IS OUR MIGRATION FROM SKYWARD TO CUMULATIVE.

IN ORDER FOR THAT MIGRATION TO HAPPEN SMOOTHLY IS WE'VE BEEN ASKED TO START THE SCHOOL YEAR AFTER LABOR DAY, TO GIVE THE REGISTRAR'S THROUGHOUT THE DISTRICT TIME TO PULL IN EVERYBODY WHO COMES IN THAT LAST WEEK BEFORE LABOR DAY, GET THEM INTO THE SYSTEM BEFORE WE MOVE FORWARD.

ANOTHER BIG PIECE TO THAT IS THAT, I'M GOING TO READ THIS FROM THE REGISTRAR'S DIRECTLY, IS THAT ONCE THIS CALENDAR IS APPROVED, THEY CAN START BUILDING THE '24/ '25 CALENDAR INTO SKYWARD, WHICH WILL THEN GO INTO CUMULATIVE.

ONCE THAT'S DONE, COURSE MASTER SCHEDULES CAN START BEING BUILT.

THAT'S VERY LABOR-INTENSIVE FOR THE SECONDARY LEVELS.

ALSO THE AMOUNT OF WORK THAT WILL NEED TO BE DONE TO CLEAN UP AND ALIGN THE COURSE MASTERS PRIOR TO FORECASTING, WHICH IS DONE IN FEBRUARY.

THIS WOULD GIVE THEM SOME TIME TO GET IN THERE AND GET ALL OF THAT BACKGROUND WORK DONE.

TO BE HONEST WITH YOU, ANOTHER PIECE TO IT IS THAT I'VE ALREADY HAD THREE PARENT PHONE CALLS ASKING FOR THE SCHEDULE, AND I DO EVERY YEAR.

BECAUSE THERE ARE FAMILIES IN THE DISTRICT WHO HAVE TO SET THEIR VACATION SCHEDULE FOR 2024 BY DECEMBER 31ST.

IF THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT THE START OF THE SCHOOL YEAR IS OR WHAT THOSE WINTER BREAKS AND SO FORTH ARE GOING TO BE.

THEY CAN'T PLAN THAT THROUGH THEIR WORK.

>> CUMULATIVE ROLL OUT MAKES A WHOLE LOT OF SENSE TO ME BECAUSE IT WOULD BE REALLY RISKY TO ROLL THAT OUT STARTING EARLIER, LIKE STARTING IN AUGUST, WHICH IS WHAT WE NEED TO DO TO REALLY IMPLEMENT SOME OF THE BALANCED CALENDAR, IT SEEMS LIKE BECAUSE OF THE CUMULATIVE ROLL OUT, WE'RE NOT GONNA BE ABLE TO MAKE MUCH PROGRESS ON THE BALANCED CALENDAR THIS YEAR.

[OVERLAPPING]

>> I'M SORRY.

>> GO AHEAD.

>> I WAS JUST GOING TO ADD. WE BROUGHT THIS TO OUR PRINCIPALS AS WELL.

THEY ARE COLLECTIVELY VERY THANKFUL IF WE CAN DO AN AFTER LABOR DAY START.

THEN IF WE GO INTO A BALANCED CALENDAR, IT WILL BE HARD AND TO SHIFT BACK TO A PRE-LABOR DAY START THE FOLLOWING YEAR.

THE OTHER PIECES WITH US UTILIZING ALL OF THE INCLEMENT WEATHER DAYS TO COVER FROM THE WORK STOPPAGE.

WE'RE ANTICIPATING SNOW DAYS IN JUNE THIS YEAR, SO IT WOULD GIVE FAMILIES THAT EXTRA TIME IN THE SUMMER.

THERE'S A LOT OF REASONS WHY ON THIS LATER START.

IT DOESN'T MEAN THAT WE WOULD CONTINUE THAT INTO THE FUTURE.

BUT I KNOW THAT OUR SCHOOLS WILL BE ON AND REGISTRARS WILL BE VERY APPRECIATIVE OF THE EXTRA TIME.

AGAIN THOUGH, THOSE ARE ADULT CONCERNS.

WE WANT TO DO WHAT'S BEST FOR KIDS.

I UNDERSTAND IF WE CAN'T DO THAT OR RESOLVE THE APPETITE FROM THE BOARD.

BUT I THOUGHT THOSE WERE REALLY SPECIFIC THOUGHTS FROM OUR PRINCIPLES SPECIFICALLY. I DIDN'T MEAN TO INTERRUPT.

>> AS SOMEONE WHO USES SKYWARD EVERY DAY IN MY JOB, TO ROLL OUT A SYSTEM HADN'T HABIT, NOT THE TIME TO ADEQUATELY TRAIN AND PREPARE EVERYBODY FOR THAT.

IT'S A NIGHTMARE. THAT MAKES ALL THE SENSE TO ME.

>> AS I SAID IT CITY SCHOOLS AND SHERMAN'S HERE.

HIM AND HIS TEAM HAVE DONE A VERY METHODICAL JOB TO START THE TRAINING NOW, WE KNOW THAT OTHER SURROUNDING DISTRICTS HAVE STRUGGLED.

I REALLY DO BELIEVE WITH A SHIFT LIKE THIS FOR OUR DISTRICT AFTER WHAT, 33 YEARS IN ONE PROGRAM, WE COULD REALLY USE AS MUCH TIME TO GET THIS RIGHT, BECAUSE THE LAST THING WE NEED IS TO RUSH THE START DATE AND THEN HAVE CUMULATIVE NOT WORK WELL WILL NOT WORK OUTRIGHT.

I'VE SEEN THOSE THINGS INDIVIDUALLY AND IT IS A NIGHTMARE CONNIE.

>> JOHN, JUST SINCE WE'RE TALKING A LOT ABOUT SKYWARD AND CUMULATIVE AND ALL OF THIS, MAYBE A LITTLE BIT OF CONTEXT FOR FOLKS THAT ARE WATCHING ABOUT WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT.

WE KNOW THAT SKYWARD IS LIKE THE BRAINS OF THE OPERATION IN THE DISTRICTS.

[02:20:04]

>> IT'S OUR PLATFORM FOR STUDENTS, FOR STAFF, FOR EVERYTHING.

SKYWARD WAS BROUGHT TO THE STATE OF WASHINGTON IN THE LATE '80S AND ADOPTED BY CAMAS I BELIEVE IN 1990S.

WHEN YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT TECHNOLOGY BEING 33 YEARS OLD, THAT'S LIKE HUNDREDS OF YEARS IN TECH TERMS. IT WAS BOUND TO HAPPEN AT SOME POINT.

SKYWARD IS GOING OUT OF FUNCTION ESSENTIALLY THIS COMING SUMMER, BUT IT'S THE SAME COMPANY AND IT'S ROLLING INTO THE CUMULATIVE WHICH JUST LIKE OUR SURROUNDING DISTRICTS WILL BE MIGRATING, I REALLY SHOULD SAY CONVERTING TO AS A FULL-BLOWN CONVERSION.

WHAT WE'RE ANTICIPATING IS REALLY MOVING INTO THE 21ST CENTURY WHEN IT COMES TO SOME AUTOMATED OPTIONS FOR OUR FAMILIES.

IT'LL BE OUR GRADING PLATFORM, EVENTUALLY, OUR HR PAYROLL, MAYBE EVEN GETTING INTO FOOD SERVICE.

I COULD SEE THIS REALLY MIGRATING INTO A MILLION DIFFERENT THINGS THAT WE DO.

NOT NECESSARILY MAKING ALL OF OUR OTHER PLATFORMS OBSOLETE, BUT REALLY BECOMING MORE EFFICIENT.

THIS IS HUGE FOR OUR DISTRICT, HUGE FOR OUR FAMILIES.

WE WANT TO GET IT RIGHT.

AGAIN, WE WOULD APPRECIATE THE EXTRA WEEK OR SO, WHATEVER THIS WOULD GIVE US.

ALSO KEEP IN MIND, LABOR DAY DOES COME A LITTLE BIT EARLIER THIS YEAR, SO IT'S NOT LIKE WE'D BE STARTING AT THE EIGHTH OR THE NINTH, I THINK.

WHAT WAS THE START DATE ON THERE? THE THIRD. I'M SURE, MA'AM.

DID I GET THAT OKAY?

>> I JUST APPRECIATE ALL THOSE CLARIFICATIONS.

I DO REMEMBER TALKING ABOUT THAT CUMULATIVE SWITCHOVER THAT WE'RE DOING AND NEEDING THAT EXTRA TIME FOR THAT.

ALL OF THAT MAKES SENSE AS TO WHY THIS IS ON HERE EARLIER THAN NORMAL.

>> I WANTED TO COMMENT REALLY QUICKLY ON THE BALANCED CALENDAR BECAUSE I KNOW OUR CAC AND SO MANY PEOPLE THAT A LOT OF WORK ON THAT, WE ARE ABSOLUTELY NOT CANCELING THIS.

I WISH ERICA WAS HERE TO HEAR THIS.

I HOPE SHE'S LISTENING AND I'LL TALK TO HER ABOUT THIS MORE.

BUT OUR CONCERN AGAIN WITH GOING RIGHT INTO A POTENTIAL FULL WEEK OFF IN NOVEMBER AND THEN A POTENTIAL FULL WEEK OFF IN FEBRUARY, WHICH WE KNOW THAT WE WANT TO AT SOME POINT WE THINK WE WANT TO ADOPT THAT.

WE JUST THINK THAT IT WOULD BE PUSHING TOO CLOSE TO THOSE VACATIONS FOR OUR FAMILIES.

THEN TO PROVIDE CHILDCARE, TO PROVIDE ACTIVITIES AND ANY OTHER TUTORING THAT WE WANTED TO DO.

IT MIGHT JUST BE TOO COMPRESSED.

MOVING THAT POTENTIALLY TO THE '25/'26 SCHOOL YEAR COULD BE MORE BENEFICIAL AS WE GO BACK TO A MORE NORMAL CALENDAR.

>> TOTALLY MAKE SENSE.

>> CONTEXT IS EVERYTHING.

>> ARE THERE ANY OTHER QUESTIONS FROM THE BOARD? IF WE WANT TO TAKE ACTION ON IT AND APPROVE IT, WE CAN.

IF YOU FEEL LIKE YOU NEED MORE TIME AND WE NEED TO TABLE UNTIL THE NEXT MEETING.

WE COULD ENTERTAIN THAT MOTION AS WELL.

A COUPLE OF THINGS, GALE, I WAS JUST NOTICING ON THE CALENDAR.

JUST A COUPLE OF LITTLE TYPO THINGS.

FOR EXAMPLE, THE BOTTOM-RIGHT, THE GRADING DAY, IT SAYS JANUARY 2ND, BUT I'M GUESSING THAT'S A TYPO AND IT'S SUPPOSED TO SAY JANUARY 27TH.

>> YES, THANK YOU.

>> I JUST WASN'T SURE IF WE NEED THE DOCUMENT REALLY TIGHT WHEN WE APPROVE IT OR?

>> NO.

>> AS LONG AS WE'RE DOING START AND END DATES AND THE VACATIONS THERE.

>> I'LL MAKE A MOTION FOR APPROVAL WITH THAT CORRECTION.

>> I'LL SECOND THAT.

>> THE MOTION IS TO APPROVE THE CALENDAR WITH THE, OH, JUST WITH THAT EDIT OF THE 27TH.

GOT IT. OKAY. AND IT WAS MOVED BY CONNIE.

I'M SORRY, BOMNEY NEEDED YOU SECOND THAT.

IS THERE ANY FURTHER DISCUSSION? I JUST WANT TO SAY THANK YOU FOR THE DISCUSSION ON THIS BECAUSE IT WAS HELPFUL.

IT MAKES A LOT MORE SENSE NOW.

ALL THOSE IN FAVOR? OR OPPOSED? MOTION CARRIES. I HAVE 12 QUALITY FACILITIES AND RESOURCES ON THE AGENDA.

FIRST 12A, WE HAVE A REQUEST FOR FINAL ACCEPTANCE OF THE DOROTHY FOX FIRE ALARM PANEL REPLACEMENT AND UPGRADE PROJECT.

SO THIS IS JUST BOARD SAYING THAT IT'S COMPLETE SO THAT WE CAN RELEASE THE RETAINAGE AND DO THE FINAL PAPERWORK TO THE STATE OF WASHINGTON.

>> WHICH ONES YOU MISSED? IT SLIPPED AWAY.

I'LL MOVE TO APPROVE THE FINAL ACCEPTANCE OF THE DOROTHY FOX FIRE ALARM REPLACEMENT WITH GB MANCHESTER AS COMPLETE.

>> SECOND.

>> MOVED BY TRACY, SECONDED BY CONNIE.

ANY FURTHER DISCUSSION? ALL THOSE IN FAVOR?

>> AYE.

>> OPPOSED. MOTION CARRIES.

ITEM 12B IS A PHONE SERVICE CONTRACT CHANGE ORDER WITH THE ZOOM COMMUNICATIONS.

YOU HAVE THE INFORMATION IN FRONT OF YOU THERE.

SHERMAN'S HERE, IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS ON THAT.

>> SHERMAN EXPLAINED IT A LITTLE BIT IN THE CITY SCHOOLS COMMITTEE THAT IT'S LIKE ZOOM, WE KNOW ZOOM AND THEY MAKE PHONES NOW.

[02:25:01]

>> YEAH.

>> IT SOUNDS PRETTY COOL.

[NOISE] SO YOU WANT TO GIVE A LITTLE SYNOPSIS FOR THOSE WHO WEREN'T THERE?

>> THE PHONE SYSTEM WE HAVE IS NO LONGER SUPPORTED BY THE COMPANY, SO WE HAD TO PICK A DIFFERENT PHONE SYSTEM.

WE LOOKED AT PROBABLY THREE OR FOUR SYSTEMS, ZOOM BY FAR WAS ADVANCED FROM A DAY ANYTHING WE LOOKED AT, YOU COULD USE YOUR CELL PHONE, LIKE A TEACHER COULD USE THEIR CELL PHONE TO CALL A PARENT, BUT IT SHOWS THAT THEY'RE CALLING FROM INSIDE THE DISTRICT, SO IT KEEPS YOUR CELL PHONE PRIVATE.

YOU CAN CALL FROM A LAPTOP, MANY DIFFERENT THINGS.

WHETHER THIS CHANGES, WE HAVE DIDS IS DIRECT PHONE NUMBERS FOR THE DISTRICT AND WE HAVE 1,200 OF THEM.

SO IT'S CONVERTING THEM ALL OVER.

WE THOUGHT WE HAD 900, BUT WE PULLED THEM ALL THROUGH.

WE HAVE ABOUT 1,200.

WE'LL GO THROUGH ALL OF THOSE THIS YEAR AFTER WE HAND EVERYTHING OUT.

AND THEN IF WE HAVE EXCESS, WILL GET RID OF THOSE LINES, BUT THIS IS ALLOW US TO CONVERT ALL OF THE LINES OVER TO THE NEW SYSTEM.

>> DO WE PAY BY THE LINE?

>> YEAH. YOU CAN PAY FOR THEM LIKE THE OLD CAMERAS PHONE NUMBERS HAVE THOSE NUMBERS WE HAVE TO PAY.

>> SO THIS IS SOMETHING THAT WOULD BE CHANGING RIGHT AWAY THEN?

>> IT WILL BE CHANGING AND I THINK IT'S DECEMBER.

>> OKAY. THANK YOU.

ANY QUESTIONS ON THIS? COMMENTS? IT'S A PRETTY SMALL AMOUNT, SO 3,000 BUT SINCE IT'S A CHANGE TO A CONTRACT, WE'RE ALREADY IN, I DIDN'T ENTERTAIN A MOTION IN A SECOND.

>> SORRY. I MOVE TO APPROVE THE CHANGE ORDER FOR THE ZOOM PHONE SERVICES CONTRACT APPROVED ON JANUARY 23RD, 2023 FOR A TOTAL OF 317,306 PER YEAR.

THE GENERAL FUND WILL PAY FOR THIS CHANGE ORDER.

I WILL SECOND THAT.

>> OKAY. SO MOVED BY BOMNEY, SECONDED BY TRACY.

ANY FURTHER DISCUSSION? ALL THOSE IN FAVOR? MOTION CARRIES.

THAT MOVES US DOWN TO ITEM C, A NEW LEASE FOR CHROMEBOOKS.

AGAIN, SHERMAN'S HERE IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS ON THAT, BUT THIS IS A PROJECT OUT OF OUR TECH LEVY.

>> FUN FACT, WE'RE DOING THE SAME THING IN THE EVERGREEN SCHOOL DISTRICT RIGHT NOW AND I DIDN'T KNOW.

IT'S WEIRD THAT LIKE EVERYBODY IS REPLACING CHROMEBOOKS AT ONCE.

>> ALRIGHT. MOTION AND A SECOND.

>> I WILL MOVE TO APPROVE THE 42 MONTH LEASE FOR CHROMEBOOKS WITH INSIGHT AND INVESTMENT FOR CHROMEBOOKS THAT HAVE REACHED THE END OF THEIR LIFE CYCLE FOR A TOTAL OF $509,108.50, INCLUDING TAX AND THIS IS A GREAT USE OF OUR TECHNOLOGY LEVY MONEY. THANK YOU, CHAIRMAN.

>> I'LL SECOND THAT MOTION.

>> MOVED BY TRACY, SECONDED BY CONNIE.

ANY FURTHER DISCUSSION? ALL THOSE IN FAVOR?

>> AYE.

>> MOTION CARRIES. OUR LAST MOTION, JASON ALLUDED THIS TO THIS IN HIS BUDGET REPORT, IN FRONT OF YOU IS A SUBMISSION TO APPROVE THE PURCHASE OF 11 NEW BUSES.

DO WE HAVE AN IDEA OF WHAT THE TIMELINE IS ON THIS?

>> TWENTY YEARS.

>> ONE YEAR, 12 MONTHS. WE'LL HOLD THEM TO THAT.

THIS COMES OUT OF THAT SPECIFIC TRANSPORTATION VEHICLE FUND, WHICH IS THAT THIS IS WHAT IT'S USED FOR.

SO IF THERE ARE ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS OTHERWISE, MOTION AND A SECOND.

>> I'LL MOVE TO APPROVE THE PURCHASE OF 11 NEW BUSES FOR $2,265,547.14 FROM THE TRANSPORTATION VEHICLES FUND.

>> I SECOND THAT.

>> MOVED BY CONNIE, SECONDED BY BOMNEY.

ANY FURTHER DISCUSSION? ALL THOSE IN FAVOR?

>> AYE.

>> MOTION CARRIES. THAT BRINGS US TO ITEM 13 ON OUR AGENDA.

WE ARE GOING TO REASSESSED THE REGULAR MEETING TO GO INTO EXECUTIVE SESSION TO DISCUSS PROPERTY AND PERSONNEL.

WE'RE GOING TO BE IN THERE FOR ABOUT 30 MINUTES AND WE MAY TAKE ACTION.

I WILL EITHER COME BACK AT 8:30, LET'S SAY, TO EITHER TAKE ACTION OR ADJOURN THE MEETING.

SO UNTIL THEN, WE ARE IN REASSESS.

WE ARE RECONVENING AT 8:33.

DOES ANY BOARD MEMBER WANT TO MAKE A MOTION?

[02:30:01]

>> I DO. [NOISE] I MOVE THAT THE BOARD ACCEPT THE RECOMMENDATION OF THE SUPERINTENDENT TO TERMINATE THE EMPLOYMENT OF DEBORAH SMITH FOR THE REASONS PROVIDED BY THE SUPERINTENDENT AND THAT THE INTERIM HR DIRECTOR PROVIDE APPROPRIATE WRITTEN NOTICE TO DEBORAH SMITH OF THE BOARD'S ACTION.

>> I SECOND.

>> IT'S MOVED BY CONNIE, SECONDED BY BOMNEY.

ANY FURTHER DISCUSSION? ALL THOSE IN FAVOR?

>> AYE.

>> AYE.

>> OPPOSED? MOTION CARRIES.

THAT IS THE END OF OUR REGULAR MEETING.

WE WILL ADJOURN AT 8:34 PM. WE ARE ADJOURNED
