[1. Board Workshop - 4:30 PM]
[00:00:02]
WELCOME TO OUR DECEMBER 11TH WORKSHOP.
IT'S WE'RE GETTING STARTED HERE A LITTLE BIT LATE BECAUSE WE WERE OVER VIEWING OUR THE MAGNET PROGRAMS SYMPOSIUM BUT WE ARE READY TO GO NOW, AND I BELIEVE THE FIRST ITEM ON OUR AGENDA FOR THIS WORKSHOP IS OUR STRATEGIC PLAN UPDATE AND LISA GRESETH.
IT'S EVER SO HARD TO LEAVE THE MAGNET SYMPOSIUM EACH YEAR WHEN THIS HAPPENS, BECAUSE THERE IS SO MUCH PHENOMENAL LEARNING GOING ON, AND OF COURSE. MUCH OF THAT IS WHAT CONNECTS BACK TO THE STRATEGIC PLANS THAT WE CREATE TOGETHER.
SO IT'S FITTING THAT WE'RE ALSO TALKING ABOUT THE STRATEGIC PLAN NOW.
IT'S AN UPDATE TODAY, AND WE HAVE AN ACTIVITY PLANNED SO THAT WE CAN ALSO GET SOME INPUT FROM YOU ON THE PART OF THE STRATEGIC PLAN THAT WE'RE WORKING ON RIGHT NOW, AS WELL AS WHAT THE NEXT STEPS ARE THAT LEAD TOWARD YOUR REVIEW AND ADOPTION OF THE STRATEGIC PLAN.
SO WHAT HAVE WE BEEN DOING SINCE THE LAST TIME WE MET? SO IN THE SEPTEMBER TO NOVEMBER WINDOW, WE'VE CONTINUED TO WORK ON ONE OF THE STRATEGIC PLAN GOAL AREAS, WHICH IS AROUND BUILDING MULTI-TIERED SYSTEM OF SUPPORTS, AND SO THAT WORK CONTINUES DAILY AND IN ALL SCHOOLS, AS THAT IS A LARGE UNDERTAKING WITH MANY PARTS AND PIECES AND LOTS OF LEARNING FOR ADULTS ALONG THE WAY TO PROVIDING LEARNING SUPPORTS FOR STUDENTS IN ADDITION, WE HAD A BOARD WORKSHOP ON OCTOBER 9TH THAT FOCUSED ON THE ELEMENTARY CONTINUOUS GROWTH, AND THAT WHILE WE KNOW THE CONTENT FOCUS FOR ELEMENTARY IS LITERACY THE WORK WE'RE DOING IS SYSTEMS WORK, WHICH CONNECTS BACK TO THAT MULTI-TIERED SYSTEM.
SO THE LEARNING THAT TEACHERS ARE ENGAGING IN WITHIN THE LAST TWO YEARS AND CONTINUING THIS YEAR AND NEXT YEAR IS ON THE SCIENCE OF READING, OR HOW DO WE INSTRUCT STUDENTS AND SUPPORT THEM IN LEARNING TO READ WITH A GOAL THAT ALL STUDENTS WILL LEARN TO READ BY THE END OF THIRD GRADE? IN ADDITION, WE JOINED THE CITIZENS ADVISORY COMMITTEE ON NOVEMBER 6TH AND INTRODUCED THE STRATEGIC PLAN GOAL AREAS TO THEM, FOCUSING ON MULTI-TIERED SYSTEMS, AND THEN WE HAD A PROTOCOL THAT ENGAGED THAT GROUP IN THINKING ABOUT FAMILY ENGAGEMENT.
SO WHAT IS GLOWS AND GROWS AGAIN? SO WHAT'S WORKING WELL THAT WE NEED TO CONTINUE? WHAT ARE SOME THINGS THAT WE COULD BE DOING BETTER AND WHAT ARE THEIR HOPES, AND SO WE HAVE THAT AS AN INPUT ALSO BECAUSE AS YOU KNOW, FAMILY AND COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS ARE SUCH A A CORE OF WHAT ALLOWS US TO PROVIDE AND SERVE THE STUDENTS AS WE DO, AND THEN ALSO, WE'VE BEEN WORKING HARD ON THE CREATION OF A DRAFT OF GUIDING STATEMENTS, WHICH I'LL SHOW TO YOU IN JUST A MINUTE.
SO ONE OF THE CHALLENGES THAT WE'VE HAD IN THIS ROUND IS WE'VE TALKED ABOUT BEFORE IS THAT THERE WAS A LOT OF WORK THAT HAPPENED PRIOR TO CREATE THE NEXT STRATEGIC PLAN, WHICH THE YEAR WOULD HAVE BEEN 2020 TO 2025 AND SO WE'RE STILL THERE, RIGHT? WE'RE STILL WITHIN THAT WINDOW.
SO A LOT OF THE CHALLENGES OF THIS HAS BEEN REVISITING WHAT WAS ALREADY ESTABLISHED AND THEN SAYING, THROUGH THE LENS OF WHAT WE'VE EXPERIENCED IN THE LAST YEARS ACROSS THE WORLD, WITHIN OUR COMMUNITIES, WITHIN WHAT'S BEING LEARNED IN NEUROSCIENCE AND TEACHING AND LEARNING, WHAT CHANGES ABOUT WHAT WAS ALREADY PUT ON PAPER, AND SO ONE OF THE THINGS THAT CAME UP WAS THE NEED TO REVISIT THE MISSION AND VISION STATEMENTS, AND SO TODAY, WHAT WE HAVE FOR YOU IS A DRAFT OF THE MISSION AND VISION STATEMENT THIS THESE DRAFTS WERE FORMED IN FROM INPUT FROM OUR COMMUNITY, BEGINNING WITH THE THOUGHT EXCHANGE.
THAT WAS DECEMBER 2022 AND CONTINUING THROUGH FOCUS GROUPS AND THEN INTO THIS FALL, WHERE WE USED A 'FIVE WHY' PROTOCOL, WHICH JUST HAS US GO DEEPER AND DEEPER INTO WHY DO WE DO WHAT WE DO? WHY DO WE DO THAT? SO TRY TO GET AT THE CORE OR THE ESSENCE OF WHAT IS THE BUSINESS OF OUR BUSINESS, AND WHAT IS THE VISION THAT WE SEE THAT WE WOULD ALL BE PROUD TO SERVE IN A SYSTEM THAT COULD ACHIEVE THIS? SO IN JUST A MOMENT, YOU'RE GOING TO GET AN 11 BY 17 SHEET OF PAPER ON THE LEFT HAND SIDE.
IT'S GOING TO HAVE THE DRAFT MISSION, VISION, VALUES AND GUIDING PRINCIPLES AND STUDENT OUTCOMES.
ON THIS, IT WILL SHOW YOU WHAT'S NEW AND WHAT WAS PART OF THE ORIGINAL WORK.
SO FOR EXAMPLE ALL EXCEPT ONE OF THE VALUES COME FROM THE 2025 DRAFT STRATEGIC PLAN, BUT WHAT WE NOTICED WAS IT'S ONE THING TO SAY A VALUE SUCH AS SAFE AND HEALTHY SCHOOL ENVIRONMENTS, BUT WHAT DOES THAT MEAN IN TERMS OF WHAT WE DO?
[00:05:04]
SO THE GUIDING PRINCIPLES ACCOMPANY EACH OF THE VALUES IS A WAY TO BE ABLE TO EXPLAIN THIS VALUE MEANS THIS.OKAY. SO YOU'LL GET THAT YOU'RE GOING TO HAVE TEN MINUTES OF COMPLETE HARDEST THING IN THE WORLD.
EXCUSE ME. JUST SILENTLY REVIEW THESE AND YOU'LL HAVE PROMPTS ON THE RIGHT SIDE.
TO WRITE DOWN WHAT YOUR THOUGHTS ARE ABOUT THIS.
[00:15:59]
KAY FOR THE NEXT PART OF THIS, IF YOU WILL GATHER YOUR SHOULDER, PARTNER, AND TALK ABOUT WHAT YOU FOUND AND SAW, AND WE[00:16:09]
DO THIS ALWAYS AS A WAY TO AS YOU WERE READING, WE KNOW THAT AS WE'RE READING, WE START TO THINK ABOUT SOME THINGS AND IT HELPS TO BE ABLE TO TALK THEM THROUGH ALSO AS A WAY OF CLARIFYING FOR YOURSELF AND THEN OUR NEXT STEP WILL BE FOR EACH PERSON TO SHARE OUT JUST ONE THING OKAY.EXCUSE ME. GATHER WITH YOUR PARTNER.
[CHUCKLING] WE CAN DO THAT TOO, COREY.
[00:22:13]
WE'LL WIND DOWN THE DISCUSSION WITH YOUR PARTNER, AND BRING IT BACK TO THE WHOLE GROUP.SO RIGHT SO AGAIN YOU'RE GOING TO SHARE JUST ONE THING.
WE KNOW YOU HAVE MANY THOUGHTS.
THAT'S WHY I'LL COLLECT THESE ALSO WHEN WE'RE DONE SO THAT WE CAN GATHER ALL OF THOSE THOUGHTS, BUT WHAT'S THE ONE THING THAT YOU WOULD LIKE TO SHARE TONIGHT? AND WHO WOULD LIKE TO START US OFF? WHATEVER IS MOST COMPELLING FOR YOU RIGHT NOW, SO IT COULD FIT IN ANY OF THOSE CATEGORIES.
[INAUDIBLE]. GO FOR THE TALK ABOUT THE FUTURE READY BECAUSE WE WERE THINKING THAT TOO.
IT'S LIKE MAYBE TIME TO CHANGE THAT ONE.
WE KIND OF, BUT I WROTE FUTURE READY IS WHAT I WROTE BECAUSE I'M TRYING TO THINK LIKE, HOW ARE WE PREPARING OUR STUDENTS FOR THE FUTURE? AND SO I WROTE THAT DOWN AS MAYBE NOT THAT MOTTO SPECIFICALLY, BUT SOMEHOW INCORPORATING THAT INTO THERE AND ONE OTHER THING, THOUGH, LET ME JUST SAY ONE THING REAL QUICK IS SOME I HAD MY WSSDA NOTES HERE, BUT ONE OF THEM WAS WHEN WE SAT ON THAT STRATEGIC PLAN, THEY HAD A NORTH STAR.
DO YOU REMEMBER THAT? AND IT WAS LIKE THEY HAD.
RIGHT I DON'T KNOW, BUT THAT BUT THEY HAD A THEY DID A GREAT JOB WITH THEIR STRATEGIC PLAN, AND THEY KEPT TALKING ABOUT THIS NORTH STAR, AND EVERYONE KNEW WHAT IT WAS BECAUSE IT WAS SIMPLE. I DON'T REMEMBER WHAT IT WAS, BUT YEAH, EVERYBODY ELSE DID.
I BROUGHT UP, I WROTE DOWN THE FUTURE READY AS WELL, JUST IN THAT WE'RE THE WHAT WE HAVE HERE IS VERY STUDENT FOCUSED, WHICH IS GREAT, AND THEY INFORM WHAT WE DO, BUT WE ALSO NEED TO MAKE SURE THAT WE ARE GUIDED BY WHAT THEY NEED TO KNOW OUT IN THE WORLD, RIGHT? DO WE HAVE THE RIGHT PATHWAYS IN PLACE? ARE WE CONNECTING THEM WITH REAL WORLD SKILLS THAT THEY WILL NEED IN THE MARKET AND I KNOW THAT CHANGES ALL THE TIME AND WE'RE PREPARING OUR THIRD GRADERS FOR WORLD.
IS THAT IT? REALLY? WE ARE PREPARING THEM TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THE FUTURE, RIGHT, BY DOING ALL OF THESE THINGS, AND THE PROGRAMS THAT WE DEVELOP ARE NOT JUST GUIDED BY STUDENT STRENGTHS, NEEDS AND PASSIONS, BUT THE WORLD AROUND US AND WHAT THE WORLD IS GOING TO REQUIRE OF THESE KIDS, WHAT THEY NEED TO KNOW, NOT JUST BECAUSE THE KIDS, THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT THEY DON'T KNOW.
[00:25:03]
I DON'T EVEN KNOW IF I STILL KNOW WHAT MY PASSIONS ARE BUT IN HIGH SCHOOL AND ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, I CERTAINLY DIDN'T, AND SO WE'RE MAKING ASSUMPTIONS THAT WE KNOW, OH, THE KIDS KNOW WHAT THEIR PASSIONS ARE. SO WE'LL HELP YOU DEVELOP THOSE.DO EVERYTHING WE CAN TO MAKE SURE THAT THEY ARE READY FOR EVERYTHING THAT THEY WANT TO DO.
I KNOW, AND YOU'RE PROBABLY NOT GOING TO GET THAT FROM WHAT I WROTE DOWN HERE, BECAUSE IT'S NOT.
THAT'S WHY I'M TAKING NOTES UP HERE.
OKAY. SO I HAVE CAPTURED THAT.
YES. THANK YOU, AND CONNIE, TO KIND OF CONNECT THAT TO SOMETHING COREY SAID WE TALKED A LITTLE BIT ABOUT SEEING AND SERVING, THAT MOTTO AND COREY SAID WHAT DOES THAT REALLY MEAN? AND SO I THINK THAT PIGGYBACKS TO WHAT YOU'RE SAYING AS FAR AS THIS STRATEGIC PLAN NEEDS TO REALLY DIG INTO WHAT DOES THAT MEAN TO DO THAT? YOU KNOW, A LOT OF TIMES PEOPLE WILL TELL US, WELL YOU MAY HAVE MISSED MY STUDENT.
YOU MAY HAVE MISSED THE MARK HERE.
ARE YOU REALLY SEEING AND SERVING? SO WE'VE HAD SOME CONVERSATIONS ABOUT SHOULD WE SAY THAT WE'RE STRIVING TO, AND COREY COMMENTED, WELL, WE ALSO DON'T WANT TO SEND A MESSAGE THAT WE'RE BACKING OFF OR OR WE'RE ALWAYS ATTEMPTING, BUT WE'RE NOT QUITE THERE.
SO I LIKE WHAT YOU'RE SAYING TO CONNECT WITH WHAT COREY IS SAYING IS DIGGING DEEPER INTO THAT MODEL, MAYBE NOT CHANGING IT, BUT GOING DEEPER TO IT SO WE CAN ACTUALLY TELL PEOPLE THIS IS WHAT WE MEAN BY THAT.
IF IT'S SEEN IN SERVING, THIS IS WHAT WE MEAN BY IT.
YEAH, THAT'S KIND OF WHAT I THAT'S KIND OF WHAT I SAID TOO, THAT EVERYBODY KNOWS SEEING AND SERVING.
I FEEL LIKE EVERYBODY IN THE DISTRICT, WHETHER YOU'RE A STAFF MEMBER, A STUDENT, A COMMUNITY MEMBER, WHATEVER, THEY KNOW THAT, BUT DOES EVERYBODY THEY KNOW THE MODEL, BUT DO THEY REALLY UNDERSTAND WHAT THAT MEANS? SO WE ALMOST NEED LIKE A LITTLE KIND OF AN LIKE WHATEVER MOTTO WE SETTLE ON THERE KIND OF ALMOST NEEDS TO BE LIKE A LITTLE ELEVATOR PITCH THAT GOES ALONG WITH THIS.
LIKE, WHAT DOES THAT REALLY MEAN? WHICH IS WHY I LOVE THAT TAGLINE, FUTURE READY THAT THE DISTRICT SUMNER HAD, BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT THEY CALLED THEIR STRATEGIC PLAN WAS CALLED FUTURE READY, AND THEY THEY REFER TO IT AS THAT, AND LIKE, THAT'S THE NAME OF THIS PLAN, AND SO WHATEVER WE LAND ON IT SHOULD BE THE, THE NAME OF THIS, THAT'S THE NAME OF THE PLAN.
THAT'S WHAT THIS ALL ALIGNS UP TO, AND THAT'S OUR GOAL AS A DISTRICT.
SOMETHING THAT'S EASY, LIKE THAT'S QUICK.
THAT'S NOT LIKE A BIG LONG YOU HAVE TO IT'S JUST LIKE SOMETHING THAT'S LIKE CATCHY AND QUICK.
RIGHT, AND THAT'S WHY YEAH THAT'S GREAT FEEDBACK.
THANK YOU, AND SEE AND SERVE I LIKE LIKE BOTH OF THEM COULD BE LIKE THE QUICK, BUT WHAT I FEEL LIKE IS IS MISSING LIKE I AGREE WITH YOU LIKE SEE AND SERVE EVERYBODY KNOWS IT, AND I WAS TELLING CONNIE LIKE I FEEL LIKE IT'S A WINK AND A HEAD NOD LIKE SEE AND SERVE LIKE YOU, AND I GET IT.
LIKE IT DOESN'T NEED A FULL DEFINITION.
IT'S AN UNDERSTANDING, RIGHT, BUT I DON'T SEE THOSE WORDS ANYWHERE, IF WE WERE TO CONTINUE TO KEEP THAT AS A QUICK TAGLINE, OR IF WE DID FUTURE READY, LIKE I WOULD WANT THOSE WORDS WEAVED IN SOMEWHERE.
I WAS TELLING CONNIE, I KIND OF GOT CAUGHT UP ON THE DRAFT MISSION, HAD THE TERM INCLUSIVE ENVIRONMENT, AND WHEN I WENT TO THE VALUES AND GUIDING PRINCIPLES, WHICH TO ME, LIKE I WANTED IT TO DEFINE SOME OF THOSE BIG WORDS OR STATEMENTS OR I WANTED IT TO EXPLAIN IT TO ME, AND I COULDN'T FIND INCLUSIVE ENVIRONMENT ANYWHERE.
I SAW SAFE AND HEALTHY SCHOOL ENVIRONMENT, AND THEN I SAW THE WORD INCLUSIVE LEARNING IN THAT ONE.
SO I FEEL LIKE THERE'S SOME THINGS THAT JUST NEED LIKE SIMILARITIES, SOME SYMMETRY, LIKE TIES IN FOR, LIKE THOSE BRAIN CONNECTORS, LIKE INCLUSIVE ENVIRONMENT, AND THEN I CAN GO HERE AND I UNDERSTAND BECAUSE IT COULD BE TO CREATE A SAFE, HEALTHY AND INCLUSIVE ENVIRONMENT, AND THAT MAKES SENSE BECAUSE WE BUILD A POSITIVE, SAFE, WELCOMING, INCLUSIVE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT.
THANKS, ERIKA. THE ONLY OTHER THING I WAS GOING TO ADD TO THAT I HAD ONE OTHER LITTLE THING THAT WAS JUST I'D LIKE TO SEE SOMETHING IN THE TEACHERS AND TEACHING AND STAFF, TEACHERS AND STAFF, JUST ABOUT GROWING LEADERS AT EVERY LEVEL AND, AND REALLY FOCUSING ON THAT KIND OF RETENTION AND BUILDING THROUGH THAT WAY WE ALSO HAD A CONVERSATION ABOUT DOES DOES BUDGET OR ALLOCATION OF RESOURCES PLAY INTO ANY OF THIS? IS IT IMPLIED OR DOES THAT NEED TO BE CALLED OUT SOMEWHERE? I DON'T KNOW, I JUST THINK THAT'S MORE OF A CONVERSATION TO HAVE.
YEAH, AND TO THAT POINT IN CABINET TODAY, WE DISCUSSED THE LEAD LEADS ON ON SOME OF THIS WORK.
[00:30:08]
ALLOCATION TO GET THE JOB DONE.DOES THAT SOUND ABOUT RIGHT? THAT'S EXACTLY RIGHT, AND WE HAVE A LAST SLIDE THAT I'LL END WITH.
YEAH THERE'RE MORE GUIDELINES.
WORDS WE USE OR THAT ARE OUT THERE TAGLINES, BUT WE NEED TO DELIVER ON THAT, AND OF COURSE, THAT'S ALWAYS GOING TO BE HARDER BECAUSE EVERYONE HAS DIFFERENT NEEDS AND EVERYONE YOU KNOW ARE SEEN DIFFERENTLY AND SERVED DIFFERENTLY SO THAT WAS MY I MEAN, I GUESS IF WE COULD CHANGE IT, I WOULD, BUT IF WE'RE KEEPING IT, WE'RE KEEPING IT, BUT I WOULD WANT TO HAVE MORE THINGS BACK UP THAT STATEMENT.
MORE EXAMPLES, MORE WAYS THAT SOMEBODY COULD SAY, OH YES, I WAS SEEN AND SERVED THAT DAY OR HOWEVER.
OKAY AND THEN THERE WAS SOMETHING THAT WAS SAID ONE OF THE THINGS I FEEL LIKE SOMETIMES THAT'S MISSING IN ALL OF THESE THINGS, NOT JUST THIS THING, BUT LIKE TEACHING KIDS.
IT'S ALWAYS CENTERED ON THE KIDS, BUT I ALSO FEEL LIKE AS ADULTS, WE ALSO NEED TO BE SOMEHOW EXAMPLES FOR THESE KIDS BECAUSE THEY CAN ALSO LEARN FROM US LIKE WE ARE RIGHT HERE. UM TEACHERS ARE IN THE CLASSROOM.
THEY ARE AN EXAMPLE OF UM, POSITIVE FEEDBACK AND CARE, KINDNESS.
ALL OF THOSE THINGS COULD ALSO BE EXAMPLES THAT THE TEACHERS AND EVERYONE YOU KNOW, IN THE SCHOOL DISTRICT OR SCHOOLS THEMSELVES CAN BE EXAMPLES OF BUT THAT DOESN'T REALLY WE DON'T INCLUDE THEM ON STATEMENTS IN HERE.
LIKE YOU'RE SAYING A RESPONSIBILITY.
YES. VERSUS WE'RE LETTING THEIR PASSIONS GUIDE.
LIKE, WE KIND OF TALK ABOUT THAT, BUT IF IT'S TRULY A GUIDING PRINCIPLE OF OURS, OF, LIKE, WE WANT TO GROW AND CONTINUE TO FILL OUR PIPELINE OF OF PEOPLE WHO HAVE BEEN TRAINED HERE, THAT'S IMPORTANT TO EVOLVE.
I MEAN, WHEN WE TALK ABOUT FUTURE READY, I MEAN, WE ALSO NEED TO BE EVOLVING WITH THE KIDS.
SO FIRST TONIGHT WE HAD THE BOARD ACTIVITY.
TODAY WE DID THE SAME WITH CABINET, AND THEN BY MID-FEBRUARY WE WILL HAVE THE SAME PROTOCOL WITH THE CITIZENS ADVISORY COMMITTEE, OUR SCHOOL AND DISTRICT LEADERS THROUGH OUR LEADERSHIP LAB STRUCTURE EMPLOYEE ADVISORY AND STUDENT ADVISORY, SO THAT ONCE AGAIN HAVING GATHERED INPUT FROM ALL THAT, NOW THIS GOES BACK OUT TO REPRESENTATIVES FROM EACH OF OUR STAKEHOLDERS IN ORDER TO BE ABLE TO GIVE THAT LAST FEEDBACK, THEN THERE WILL BE A SMALL COMMITTEE THAT TAKES ALL OF THE FEEDBACK TO DETERMINE WHAT CHANGES AND WHAT DOESN'T CHANGE, BECAUSE FOR EVERYTHING THAT ONE PERSON WANTS CHANGED, ANOTHER PERSON WANTS IT TO STAY THE SAME.
SO WE'LL BALANCE LIKE WHAT DO WE SEE ACROSS THE ACROSS ALL OF THE INPUT THAT WE GET.
THEN BY MARCH 1ST WE'LL HAVE COMPLETED A REVISION OF THE DOCUMENT YOU SEE IN FRONT OF YOU AS WELL AS HAVING, AND DOCTOR ANZALONE ALLUDED TO THIS AS WELL. GOAL AREA LEADS IDENTIFIED WITH THE INITIAL GOALS FINALIZED AND MEASURES DRAFTED AND FOR BOARD REVIEW ON MARCH 11TH AND MARCH 25TH. SO THEN THE HOPE WOULD BE THAT'S THE POINT AT WHICH IT WOULD BE ADOPTED AND THAT WE WILL GO FORWARD.
NOW, THAT SAID ONE OF THE THINGS THAT WE'VE TALKED ABOUT EARLIER AS WELL IS TYPICALLY STRATEGIC PLANS HAVE BEEN LIKE IN FIVE YEAR INCREMENTS, AND WHAT WE WANT TO DO INSTEAD WITH THIS ONE IS TO CREATE ONE THAT CONTINUES TO GROW, SO THAT WHILE WE WILL ALWAYS GATHER INPUT IN SIGNIFICANT PLACES WE WILL ALWAYS LOOK AT MEASURES. WE WILL ALWAYS DETERMINE WHAT NEEDS TO CHANGE NEXT, THAT WE CAN KEEP MOVING FLUIDLY AS WE HAVE A PLAN THAT WILL ADAPT TO THE CHANGES ALONG THE WAY, BUT THERE WILL STILL BE LIKE BENCHMARKS ALONG THE WAY THEN.
[00:35:01]
WHAT WHAT ABOUT THAT PROFILE OF A GRAD THAT WE'RE USING TO GUIDE THOSE COMPETENCIES THAT HELP A STUDENT BE READY FOR THE FUTURE, WHATEVER THE FUTURE IS AND ALSO THE ROLE OF PROFESSIONAL LEARNING PARTNERSHIPS AND SO ON, AND SO THOSE ARE THERE FOR YOUR CONTINUED GUIDANCE AS WELL AS AS WE GO THROUGH THIS PROCESS.SO THERE'S LOTS OF PIECES OF IT TOGETHER, AND NOW IT'S JUST THAT FINAL PUSH FOR HOW DOES IT ALL COME TOGETHER INTO A SINGLE PLAN THAT'S COMPELLING, THAT HAS THAT NORTH STAR IDENTIFIED THAT WHEN WE WAKE UP IN THE MORNING, WE SAY YES AGAIN.
ALL RIGHT. ANY OTHER COMMENTS OR QUESTIONS ON STRATEGIC PLAN? [INAUDIBLE] REALLY IS YEAH, THAT'S REALLY A GREAT A GREAT ONE.
THANK YOU, LISA. OKAY, SO THE LAST THE LAST TWO ITEMS HERE WE CAN KIND OF GET THROUGH PRETTY QUICKLY, AND THEN WE'LL ADJOURN UNTIL OUR, OUR REGULAR MEETING AT 5:30 JUST WANTED TO CHECK ONE MORE TIME AND SEE IF THERE WAS ANYTHING THAT WE NEEDED TO DEBRIEF ON ABOUT THE WAS THE CONFERENCE. WE DIDN'T REALLY AT THE LAST MEETING, BUT I WASN'T SURE IF THAT NEEDS TO BE.
CAN I JUST, SORRY, THROW SOMETHING OUT? KIND OF WITH THE STRATEGIC PLAN, BUT WHAT WE HAD TALKED ABOUT WAS THAT ONCE WE GET THE STRATEGIC PLAN DONE, WE TALKED ABOUT WHEN WE HAVE WORKSHOPS LIKE THIS THAT WE DO SITE VISITS THE NEXT DAY OR THAT SAME WEEK TO SEE ACTUALLY WHAT WE WERE LEARNING, AND SO THAT WAS A GREAT WSSDA TIP THAT I THINK WE ALSO GOT THAT I WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT WE'RE YEAH, THINKING ABOUT AS WE MOVE FORWARD.
THAT WAS YEAH, THAT WAS GREAT.
THERE WAS A COUPLE OTHER THINGS LIKE EACH OF US TAKE WHAT CHAMPIONS OF A CERTAIN GOAL.
SO EACH BOARD MEMBER KIND OF HAS A GOAL THAT WE'RE CHAMPIONS OF, AND THERE WAS JUST A LOT OF GREAT STUFF IN THAT SESSION, AND SO I'M EXCITED FOR THE STRATEGIC PLAN TO BE DONE AND US TO BE ABLE TO BE CHAMPIONS OF THAT AND SEE THAT IN THE CLASSROOMS WHEN WE DO OUR SITE VISITS.
ANY OTHER THOUGHTS ON WSSDA OR ANYTHING WE WANTED TO SHARE? I THINK WE'RE MOVING FORWARD A LITTLE BIT WITH THE SOME OF THE NOT CHANGES, BUT SOME OF THE MAYBE WAYS TO MORE AUTHENTICALLY GET STUDENT VOICE OUT OF OUR STUDENT ADVISORY COMMITTEE SO THAT PROCESS IS IS MOVING A LITTLE BIT KIND OF GAUGING THE STUDENT LEVEL OF INTEREST AS WELL.
OKAY. ANYTHING ELSE ON WSSDA? NO, I'M GOING TO TURN DAY ON THE HILL ON THE LEGISLATIVE CONFERENCE OVER TO ONE OF YOU, BECAUSE I'M NOT QUITE SURE WE'RE READY TO SPEAK ON THAT.
YEAH, I'LL PASS IT OFF TO GAIL, BUT WE DO HAVE A LEGISLATIVE CONFERENCE THAT'S THERE'S A LIVE VERSION AND A HYBRID OPTION BUT I'LL PASS IT OFF TO GAIL, BECAUSE WE'VE BEEN WORKING WITH DEREK ON SOME STRATEGIES AND SOME THOUGHTS ABOUT CONTINUING TO MAKE OUR, OUR VOICE HEARD AND SO GAIL, WOULD YOU LIKE TO GIVE US A LITTLE INPUT AND UPDATE? YES. SO WHAT I NEED TO KNOW IS IF ANY OF YOU WANT TO ATTEND THE LEGISLATIVE CONFERENCE ON SUNDAY, JANUARY 28TH, IN PERSON OR VIRTUALLY SO THAT I CAN GET YOU REGISTERED RIGHT AWAY, AND SECONDLY THERE IS ALREADY I'VE GOTTEN SCHEDULED WITH PAUL HARRIS'S OFFICE AT 1:00 PM ON MONDAY MEET AND GREET, AND THEY'RE TRYING TO PULL IN LINDA WILSON AND KEVIN WATERS TO THE SAME TIME, AND THEY'RE GIVING YOU TEN, 20 MINUTES INSTEAD OF TEN.
SO THE THOUGHT WAS, YEAH, THE THOUGHT WAS IF YOU IF WE DECIDED TO DO LIKE THE HYBRID OPTION ON SUNDAY AND THEN MAYBE WE CAN DRIVE UP OR A FEW OF US CAN ON MONDAY MORNING TAKE THE TIME WITH PAUL AND HOPEFULLY OTHERS AND THEN JUST KIND OF TURN AROUND AND COME BACK.
I'D BE OPEN TO DOING THAT WITH YOU.
IF YOU GUYS ALL GO UP MONDAY, I MIGHT BE ABLE TO RIDE WITH YOU MONDAY.
GAIL, IS IT SOMETHING THAT ALL OF US CAN GO TO, OR DO WE NEED TO HAVE TWO MEMBERS, JUST TWO BOARD MEMBERS FOR OPMA STUFF? YOU CAN HAVE AS MANY AS YOU CAN HAVE AS MANY.
YOU MEAN DAY ON THE HILL? YEAH. YES. OKAY, OKAY.
YES. SO IF YOU GUYS ARE ALL GOING MONDAY, I WOULD JUST.
I COULD. I'M SURE I COULD MAKE IT.
WHAT TIME DO WE LEAVE? WHAT IS DEREK DOING? IS HE GOING OUT BOTH DAYS? THE THOUGHT WAS TO INVITE DEREK.
[00:40:01]
I WANTED TO KIND OF GET YOUR THOUGHTS FIRST, AND IF YOU WANTED TO GO, I'D LOVE TO BRING DEREK.YEAH, I THINK DEREK HAS A GREAT RELATIONSHIP WITH ALL OF THEM TOO.
SO IT'S KIND OF HELPFUL TO BE AROUND HIM AND US WHEN [INAUDIBLE].
THERE'S A GOOD CHANCE THAT DEREK'S ALREADY GOING AND HAS SOME OTHER APPOINTMENTS SET.
SO I JUST HAVE TO CONNECT WITH HIM.
SO IS THIS KIND OF OUR OWN DAY ON THE HILL, OR IS THIS TYING IN WITH THE WSSDA/WASA ONE TOO? IT IS WSSDA/WASA.
IT IS SO OKAY, BUT ARE WE GOING TO.
SO WE'RE GOING TO BE MEETING WITH MORE THAN JUST OUR OWN REPRESENTATIVES THEN.
RIGHT. BECAUSE DON'T THEY MEET WITH OTHERS AS WELL.
YOU MAKE APPOINTMENTS OKAY WITH WHO YOU WANT TO MEET WITH.
IT'S LIKE WE'RE VISITING EVERYBODY ON THE EDUCATION COMMITTEES OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT.
YEA IF YOU WANT ME TO REACH OUT TO OTHERS, I CAN.
MAYBE WE GET AN APPOINTMENT WITH MONICA TOO, OR SOMETHING LIKE.
THAT'D BE GREAT. YEAH OR JUST HOWEVER THEY HOWEVER DOES.
SORRY, I'M OBVIOUSLY A LITTLE FRIED RIGHT NOW DOESN'T WITH THE DAY ON THE HILL THROUGH WSSDA AND WASA, DON'T THEY SCHEDULE A LOT OF THAT STUFF FOR US AS WELL? DON'T THEY HAVE THEY DON'T HAVE ANYTHING? I THOUGHT THEY DID IN THE PAST. OKAY.
SORRY. WELL MAYBE JUST SCHEDULED THAT SUNDAY.
YEAH FOR LESSONS AND THEN IT'S YOU GO ON YOUR OWN AND GO MEET, BUT I'M WONDERING IF YOU COULD CONNECT WITH LIKE, EVERGREEN OR VANCOUVER IF ANY OF THEM ARE, ARE MEETING AND IF THEY UM I WANT TO I'M NOT IT'S NOT ON THE TOP OF MY HEAD WHO'S ON THE EDUCATIONAL COMMITTEE THAT WE WOULD WANT TO TRY AND MEET WITH OR WAYS AND MEANS I THINK WE WANT TO JUST REVIEW THAT AND THEN TRY TO MAKE SOME MORE APPOINTMENTS AND THAT'S GREAT.
WHAT ARE YOU THINKING OF DOING WITH EVERGREEN AND VANCOUVER? GO IN, GO TOGETHER AND BE ABLE TO UTILIZE IF THEY HAVE ANY APPOINTMENTS BUT I BUT I THINK IF WE ONLY HAVE 10 OR 20 MINUTES, I DON'T THINK ANYBODY'S GOING TO WANT TO SHARE THEIR TIME I ACTUALLY THINK ALL OF US LIKE, IF WE'RE ABLE, THE MORE WE AS A GROUP ARE IN FRONT OF THEM.
KIND OF LIKE WHEN THEY CAME HERE FOR THAT SESSION, IT'S LIKE, OH, THAT'S THE CAMAS SCHOOL BOARD WITH THE SUPERINTENDENT AND DEREK, I THINK THERE'S VALUE IN WHOEVER OF US CAN GO AGAIN, BECAUSE THEN IT'S JUST THAT CONSISTENCY.
WE'RE BEING IN FRONT OF THEM. THIS IS CAMAS AND EVERGREEN IS PROBABLY DOING THE SAME AS VANCOUVER.
I JUST WANT TO MAKE SURE WE GET MORE THAN JUST THEM.
RIGHT BECAUSE ONLY PAUL IS ON THE EDUCATION COMMITTEE.
SO I WANT TO MAKE SURE WE I WILL WORK ON THE OTHERS THAT ARE ON THE.
I THINK IT'D BE GOOD TO LOOK AT HOUSE AND SENATE, HOUSE AND SENATE MEMBERSHIP ON THOSE COMMITTEES AND SEE IF WE CAN GET IN WITH SOME OTHER PEOPLE LIKE MONICA OR WITH, UM SENATOR WELLMAN, WHO'S THE CHAIR OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT.
YES THAT DEREK TALKS ABOUT ALL THE TIME.
OH, YEAH. I'LL CHECK WITH HIM.
YEAH, I THINK THAT'D BE GREAT.
RIGHT NOW I NEED TO KNOW WHO WANTS TO ATTEND IN PERSON ON SUNDAY.
YOU WANT TO RAISE YOUR HANDS? THUMBS UP.
IT WOULD PROBABLY SAVE HOTEL ROOMS AND SAVE MONEY.
SO I'D BE FINE WITH DOING THE HYBRID OPTION THIS TIME, IF THAT'S ON SUNDAY FOR ALL OF YOU.
I'LL BE TRAVELING, BUT I SHOULD BE ABLE TO MAKE THE, THE IN-PERSON DAY ON THE HILL RIDE OR WHATEVER.
WOULD YOU BE ABLE TO ATTEND THE DAY ON THE HILL? OKAY, AND CONNIE YOU'RE A YES FOR A DAY ON THE HILL? YES. ERIKA.
THAT'S WHAT I NEEDED FOR THAT AGENDA.
THANK YOU. ALL RIGHT, WELL, THAT PUTS US TO 5:16 I WILL GO AHEAD AND ADJOURN THE WORKSHOP, AND WE WILL RECONVENE FOR THE REGULAR MEETING AT 5:30. WE ARE ADJOURNED.
THANK YOU GOOD EVENING, EVERYONE.
[3. REGULAR MEETING CALL TO ORDER - 5:30 PM]

ALL RIGHT LET'S KICK THINGS OFF WITH SOME CELEBRATIONS HERE.
[4. MILL TOWN PRIDE AWARD(S)]
SOME MILLTOWN PRIDE AWARDS.FIRST OUR AWSP PRINCIPAL OF THE YEAR, DOROTHY FOX ELEMENTARY PRINCIPAL DOCTOR CATHY SORK.
[00:45:06]
AND LISA GRESETH IS GOING TO BE INTRODUCING OUR GUEST OF HONOR.17 YEARS, FIVE MONTHS, 20 DAYS AGO.
BILLBOARD SAYS THE MOST POPULAR SONG WAS DO I MAKE YOU PROUD BY TAYLOR HICKS.
DID ANYBODY KNOW TAYLOR HICKS? I'M LIKE, OKAY, ALL RIGHT.
IT SEEMS SO PERFECTLY FITTING THAT TODAY WE HONOR ANOTHER EVENT FROM THAT SAME DATE, JULY 1ST, 2006, WHICH WAS THE DAY THAT CAMAS SCHOOL DISTRICT HIRED DOCTOR CATHY SORK AS PRINCIPAL AT DOROTHY FOX ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, AND TODAY WE GET TO CELEBRATE DOCTOR SALK WITH RECOGNITION OF THE WASHINGTON STATE ELEMENTARY PRINCIPAL OF THE YEAR AWARD GIVEN BY THE ASSOCIATION OF WASHINGTON STATE PRINCIPALS, AFFECTIONATELY, AFFECTIONATELY KNOWN AS AWSP.
[INAUDIBLE]. ARE YOU CHECKING ME? YEAH. CHECKING ME.
AS THE ELEMENTARY PRINCIPAL OF THE YEAR, DOCTOR SORK WILL BE RECOGNIZED BY THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF ELEMENTARY SCHOOL PRINCIPALS NAESP, WITH WINNERS FROM OTHER STATES AS ONE OF NAESP'S NATIONAL DISTINGUISHED PRINCIPALS.
SO THE SONG, DO I MAKE YOU PROUD? AN ANSWER TO THE QUESTION YES, YOU MAKE US PROUD.
SO VERY PROUD AS AN EDUCATOR, A LEADER AND A LEARNER.
THE LAST LYRICS, AS THE SONG CLOSES, IS EVERYBODY NEEDS TO RISE UP.
EVERYBODY NEEDS TO BE LOVED, TO BE LOVED, AND IT'S SO, SO FITTING FOR OUR RECOGNITION TODAY.
CATHY HERSELF SAYS ONE OF THE BEST PARTS OF HER JOB IS SHE GETS TO HAVE RELATIONSHIPS WITH STUDENTS AND HELP THEM TO GROW, LAUGH, STRETCH AND MOVE TOWARD A BRIGHT FUTURE.
I KNOW WE HAVE SO MANY PEOPLE IN THE AUDIENCE TODAY CELEBRATING WITH US, AND THERE ARE SO MANY STORIES, SOME OF WHICH WE WILL NOT TELL TONIGHT, BUT WHEN I ASKED PEOPLE ABOUT WHAT DO THEY MOST CELEBRATE ABOUT CATHY? WHAT DO THEY RECOGNIZE? THESE ARE THE THINGS THAT CAME UP.
SHE'S CARING AND RELATIONSHIPS ARE AT THE CORE OF EVERYTHING SHE DOES.
SHE HAS AN UNWAVERING BELIEF IN THE STUDENTS, FAMILIES, AND STAFF MEMBERS SHE SERVES.
SHE LOVES EVERY OPPORTUNITY TO WORK DIRECTLY WITH STUDENTS, WHETHER COVERING CLASSES FOR TEACHERS WHILE THEY OBSERVE COLLEAGUES PRACTICE, OR IN HER LEADERSHIP OF THE STUDENT LEADERSHIP TEAM, AND THE PHRASE THAT WAS GIVEN WAS, PUT HER IN THAT ROOM WITH THOSE STUDENTS AND SHE JUST LIGHTS UP.
SO WHEN I SAY, WHAT IS SHE PASSIONATE ABOUT? THE ANSWER, IN A SIMPLE TERMS, IS EVERYTHING.
SHE'S PASSIONATE ABOUT EVERYTHING FROM PEOPLE TO LEARNING MATH AND LITERACY.
ONE OF MY PERSONAL FAVORITES IS DATA.
SHE REMINDS US ALL THAT THE WORK WE DO AS EDUCATORS AND LEADERS MATTERS.
SHE SAID IN HER WORDS, THE IMPACT YOU MAKE ON THE RIGHT DAY, IN THE RIGHT MOMENT, IT ADDS UP.
SO THANK YOU SO MUCH EVERYONE DESERVES A MOMENT LIKE THE YEAR THAT I'M THAT I'M HAVING WHERE THE PEOPLE HAVE NICE THOUGHTS ABOUT YOU ARE SHARING THEM I WANT TO JUST START BY DOING A SHOUT OUT TO THE PEOPLE THAT I LOVE AND WORK WITH WHO'VE MADE A SPECIAL EFFORT TO BE HERE TONIGHT I GET SO MUCH MORE THAN I GIVE EVERY DAY AND LOVE BEING AROUND KIDS.
[00:50:04]
THESE ARE MY KIDS. THESE ARE THE KIDS THAT I GET TO BE A PART OF THEIR LIVES, AND I'VE BEEN THERE LONG ENOUGH THAT I'VE BEEN AROUND WITH FAMILIES, AND I LOOK AROUND AND THINK OF THE KIDS WHO I'VE BEEN ABLE TO HAVE ALONG THEIR JOURNEY, AND IT IS JUST AN HONOR AND A PRIVILEGE OF WHAT I GET TO DO AND TO LOVE COMING TO WORK AND TO BE ABLE TO WORK HARD AND BE CREATIVE AND LEARN EVERY DAY.I'M JUST SO HONORED AT THIS, AND THANK YOU FOR YOUR KIND WORDS THANK YOU TO CAMAS FOR THEIR INCREDIBLE SUPPORT TO GIVE ME A JOB THAT I LOVE TO DO, AND THAT'S THE DEFINITION OF JOY, AND I GET TO FIND THAT EVERY DAY.
SO JUST THANK YOU TO ALL THOSE FRIENDS AND THAT I GET TO WORK WITH THAT HELP CHALLENGE ME AND ALLOW ME TO JUST GO FOR IT ALL THE TIME WITH NEW IDEAS, AND BUT TO BE ABLE TO CALL DOROTHY FOX HOME IS REALLY SOMETHING SPECIAL.
THANK YOU. [INAUDIBLE] CONGRATULATIONS ONCE AGAIN, DOCTOR SORK.
WE'LL KEEP IT GOING FOR YOU OUR NEXT MILLTOWN PRIDE AWARD IS FOR BILL SWACKER, AND I THINK WE HAVE MANDY BUSBY AND CLINT WILLIAMS HERE TO TALK ABOUT BILL.
ALL RIGHT, AND, DOCTOR, [INAUDIBLE].
BILL, ARE YOU HERE? IS BILL HERE? OKAY.
OKAY, SO I DIDN'T KNOW WE WERE GOING TO FOLLOW LISA AND CATHY.
THAT'S ALWAYS A TOUGH ACT TO FOLLOW, BUT WE'LL GIVE IT OUR BEST SHOT I'LL JUST START BY SAYING WE WERE AT A MEETING LAST TUESDAY, I THINK, AND MANDY WAS SAYING, YOU KNOW WHAT? I HAD THIS PROBLEM IN MY BUILDING, AND BILL SWACKER WAS THERE AT LIKE FIVE IN THE MORNING TO FIX IT AND I WENT, WELL, HE'S DONE THAT FOR ME, TOO, AT SKY RIDGE.
HE'S BEEN THERE IN THE MORNING.
HE JUST ALWAYS GETS THINGS DONE, AND DAN SAID HE DOES THE SAME THING AND ODYSSEY AND DISCOVERY.
SO WE THOUGHT, YOU KNOW WHAT? THIS IS WHAT WE NEED TO DO.
IT'S AMAZING. FROM LOCKS TO CEILING ROOFS TO LEAKS LIKE LEAKS.
I MEAN, BILL HAS BEEN AMAZING AND SO FAST.
I JUST WANT TO ALSO ECHO THAT I WAS SO IMPRESSED THE OTHER DAY WE HAD SOMETHING GOING WRONG WITH OUR FRONT DOOR, WHICH IS QUITE ESSENTIAL, AND I PUT IN THE WORK ORDER, AND SOMETIMES IT TAKES A MINUTE FOR THOSE THINGS TO HAPPEN.
YEAH, AND I WAS JUST SO IMPRESSED.
BEFORE I KNEW IT, THERE WAS BILL AND JUST BEEN SO IMPRESSED, AND ALSO HE'S JUST ABLE TO FIX THINGS THAT I'M NOT EVEN SURE HOW HE'S ABLE TO DO IT, AND AT ONE POINT WHEN WE WERE HERE IN THIS OFFICE, HE DID A CUSTOM WELDING PIECE FOR US.
[00:55:04]
I DIDN'T EVEN KNOW THAT WAS POSSIBLE.THANK HIM. COREY I CAN ACCEPT THIS ON HIS BEHALF, SO I'LL LET HIM KNOW.
ABSOLUTELY. BILL, WHEREVER YOU ARE OBVIOUSLY OUT DOING YEP DOING THE WORK.
SO BILL SWACKER, LET'S LET'S GIVE IT UP FOR BILL.
ALL RIGHT, MOVING ON TO ITEM FIVE ON THE AGENDA.
[5. STUDENT/COMMITTEE REPORTS]
WE HAVE A FEW STUDENT AND COMMITTEE REPORTS.WE'RE GOING TO START WITH OUR STUDENT REPS FROM DISCOVERY HIGH SCHOOL AND THEIR REPORT.
I'M OUR ASB PRESIDENT, AND THEN SHE IS OUR LOVELY ASB VICE PRESIDENT.
FOR STARTERS, WE ENDED OUR STUFF THE BUS DONATION EVENT WITH A TOTAL OF 1469 POINTS.
ON NOVEMBER 4TH WE ALSO HAD OUR FALL HARVEST HOP DANCE, AND WE HAD A PRETTY GOOD ATTENDANCE RATE OF 40% OF OUR STUDENTS, AND THEN, SPEAKING OF DANCES COMING UP, WE HAVE OUR WINTER DANCE.
THE DATE HASN'T BEEN ANNOUNCED YET, BUT I CAN TELL YOU THAT IT'S IN FEBRUARY AND IT'S OUR FORMAL DANCE FOR THE YEAR THAT'S NOT PROM, SO IT'S OPEN TO ALL OF OUR GRADE LEVELS WE'VE ALSO BEEN DOING A COUPLE OTHER THINGS TO KEEP OUR STUDENTS ENGAGED WITH THEIR PEERS.
WE JUST APPROVED FUND REQUESTS TO IMPROVE OUR PING PONG TABLES AND MAKE SOME CORNHOLE BOARDS SO THAT STUDENTS CAN INTERACT WITH THEIR FRIENDS DURING LUNCH AND LASTLY, WE RECENTLY APPROVED ANOTHER CLUB DISCOVERY'S GETTING OUR OWN GEN EARTH CLUB, AND THEY HOPE TO MAINTAIN OUR BEAUTIFUL CAMPUS AS WELL AS SOME OTHER FANTASTIC PROJECTS, AND I'M SURE THEY'LL BE HERE AT NEXT MEETING TO GET THAT APPROVED BY YOU GUYS.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR LISTENING.
DO YOU GUYS HAVE ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS FOR US? JUST CONGRATULATIONS.
GREAT NUMBERS ON THE STUFF THE BUS.
THAT'S EXCELLENT WORK. SO THANK YOU FOR THE GREAT REPORT.
APPRECIATE IT. ARE WE GOOD WITH THE NEXT? YEAH. OKAY. SO, LIBERTY NEXT.
OKAY. NEXT. WE HAVE OUR REPS FROM LIBERTY MIDDLE SCHOOL.
COME ON UP. EITHER MICROPHONE IS FINE.
MY NAME IS ISAAC SAKATA AND I AM A SEVENTH GRADER AT LIBERTY MIDDLE SCHOOL.
AS A SCHOOL, WE BROUGHT IN NEARLY 1000 ITEMS TO HELP CHILDREN AND FAMILIES IN NEED IN THE STUFF THE BUS FUNDRAISER THIS YEAR.
OUR TOP CLASSES WERE IN SEVENTH GRADE, MR. HUNTER'S CLASS, AND IN SIXTH GRADE, MRS. BASSETT'S CLASS, AND IN EIGHTH GRADE, MRS. THOMAS [INAUDIBLE] CLASS WE HAVE OUR UPCOMING WINTER SOCIAL, WHICH WILL BE IN LIKE DECEMBER, AND WE HAVE OUR UPCOMING SPRING SOCIAL.
I'M SORRY. MY REPORT JUST DIED AND.
[CHUCKLING]. [INAUDIBLE] I SUCK AT TECHNOLOGY.

MONDAY, DECEMBER 18TH IS BLUE AND WHITE SPIRIT DAY TO REPRESENT ICE AND SNOW.
WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 20TH IS COFFEE DAY, WEAR AN OUTFIT THAT MAKES YOU COMFORTABLE, AND OUR VOLLEYBALL TEAMS AT LIBERTY HAVE WORKED VERY HARD THIS SEASON, AND ALL OF THE COACHES ARE PROUD OF WHAT THEY'VE ACCOMPLISHED.
ALL FOUR TEAMS HAVE WINNING RECORDS HEADING INTO THE FINAL WEEK.
[01:00:05]
ALL SOCCER TEAMS HAVE A WINNING RECORD HEADING INTO THE LAST WEEK TOO.WAY TO GO LIONS! OUR SCIENCE OLYMPIAD TEAM HAS HAD AN AMAZING START TO THIS YEAR, AND OUR TEAM HAS PLACED 20TH OUT OF OVER 160 TEAMS ON NOVEMBER 14TH, AND WE BEAT THE NATIONAL CHAMPIONS ON THE DECEMBER 14TH AND FRIDAY, DECEMBER 15TH.
WE HAVE GIRLS SOCCER TRYOUTS FOR SIXTH, SEVENTH AND EIGHTH GRADE, AND WE HAVE BOYS BASKETBALL TRYOUTS WITH SEVENTH AND EIGHTH GRADE ON DECEMBER 14TH, FRIDAY, DECEMBER 15TH AND MONDAY, DECEMBER 18TH AND WE HAVE KNOWLEDGE BOWL PRACTICE BEGINNING AFTER WINTER BREAK.
GREAT JOB, ISAAC. VERY THOROUGH.
NEXT REPORT WE HAVE REPS HERE FROM CAMAS HIGH SCHOOL.
HELLO, I'M VIVIAN [INAUDIBLE].
I AM A SENIOR AT CAMAS HIGH SCHOOL AND I AM ASB SECRETARY.
HI, I'M CHARLOTTE GILLESPIE AND I AM THE JUNIOR CLASS PRESIDENT AT CAMAS OKAY.
SO CAMAS KIND OF TOOK IT OVER, WHICH WAS REALLY EXCITING SO FIRST WE KIND OF HAD A CAROLING NIGHT AROUND THE DOROTHY FOX AREA WHERE WE WENT AND CAROLED TO A BUNCH OF HOUSES AND ASKED FOR DONATIONS, AND WE RECEIVED A LOT OF CANS, AND PEOPLE WERE REALLY HAPPY TO DONATE.
SO THAT WAS HELPFUL, AND THEN WE SET UP TABLES AT SAFEWAY IN DOWNTOWN CAMAS AND CAMAS HIGH SCHOOL, LIKE, SET UP THE TABLES FOR THE FULL DAY ON LIKE THE 18TH, 19TH AND 22ND OF NOVEMBER TO COLLECT FOOD AND ODYSSEY AND DISCOVERY RAN THE TABLES THE 28TH SKYRIDGE THE 29TH AND LIBERTY THE 30TH.
SO THAT WAS HELPFUL TO COLLECT MORE FOOD WE HAD A FIRST PERIOD CLASS COMPETITION, AND THE CLASS THAT WON CAME WITH US TO PICK UP ALL THE FOOD FROM ALL THE SCHOOLS ON DECEMBER 1ST, WHICH WAS REALLY COOL.
SO WE DROPPED WHEN WE PICKED UP ALL THE FOOD FROM THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS.
AT MIDDLE SCHOOLS, WE DROPPED THE FOOD TO THE CHILDREN'S HOME SOCIETY AND THE FIRE STATION, AND THE PROCEEDS WENT TO THE [INAUDIBLE] FOOD PROGRAM THERE SO THAT WAS REALLY COOL, AND IT WAS REALLY COOL TO DROP IT ALL OFF, AND ALL THE MIDDLE SCHOOLS AND ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS, LIKE, BROUGHT THEIR KIDS OUT AND HAD THEM COME DROP THEIR FOOD, WHICH WAS REALLY COOL.
SO THIS COMING FRIDAY, WE HAVE A MOVIE NIGHT, WE'RE WATCHING ELF AND IT'S A SCHOOL WIDE EVENT, AND THERE WILL BE FREE CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES AND YOU CAN GET IN FREE WITH YOUR STUDENT ID OUR DRAMA DEPARTMENT PUT ON A MIDSUMMER'S NIGHT DREAM, WHICH WAS REALLY, REALLY COOL, AND A LOT OF OUR SPORTS WENT TO STATE THIS YEAR.
SO VOLLEYBALL GOT SIX AND FOOTBALL GOT INTO THE ROUND OF 16.
GIRLS SWIM HAD A FOURTH PLACE FINISHER AND CROSS COUNTRY.
BOTH TEAMS COMPETED AT STATE AND AT GIRLS SOCCER.
THEY ALSO GOT INTO THE ROUND OF 16 FOR WINTER SPORTS.
ADDISON HARRIS GOT 1000 POINTS AND THAT IS THE FIRST TIME A PAPERMAKER HAS EVER DONE THAT, AND KIRA THOMPSON WAS THE MVP OF THE DC TOURNAMENT, AND ALSO WRESTLING HAD A VARSITY TOURNAMENT AND THEY HAD 6 OR 7 CHAMPS, AND WE ALSO HOPE CAMAS HOSTED A MIDDLE SCHOOL VOLLEYBALL TEAM FOR A PAPER CUP AS FAR AS OUR CLUBS GO THERE WAS A SCIENCE OLYMPIAD CONFERENCE RECENTLY THAT WENT REALLY WELL, AND WE'VE ALSO APPROVED A LOT OF NEW CLUBS RECENTLY THE PICKLEBALL CLUB, THE SPEECH AND DEBATE CLUB WHO HAD THEIR FIRST TOURNAMENT LAST SATURDAY? THE JAPANESE CULTURE CLUB WAS RENEWED AS THEY HAD THAT LIKE A FEW YEARS AGO BEFORE COVID, AND THEN WE ADDED THE CYBERSECURITY CLUB AND A CLUB TITLED SWAG, WHICH IS SUPPORTING WOMEN AROUND THE GLOBE.
LET'S SEE, THERE WAS A BAND CONCERT ON THURSDAY AND A CHORAL PROGRAM.
THERE'S A CONCERT TONIGHT AND THEN AS FAR AS MUSIC GOES, THERE WAS LIKE A TEACHER SHOWCASE PERFORMED AT CARVER THEATER, I'M PRETTY SURE, A FEW WEEKS AGO SO THAT WAS PRETTY COOL WE ALSO HAD A VETERANS DAY ASSEMBLY A FEW WEEKS AGO, AND WE HAD VETERANS WHO WORKED AT OUR SCHOOL SIT ON A PANEL AND ASK ANSWER QUESTIONS ABOUT
[01:05:04]
WHAT VETERANS DAY MEANS TO THEM, WHICH HAD A REALLY GREAT, LIKE, IMPACT ON THE STUDENTS.WE FELT LIKE WE ALSO PASSED OUT [INAUDIBLE] AT THE BEGINNING OF THE SCHOOL DAY AND HAD PEOPLE, LIKE, WEAR THEM, AND WE READ A POEM AT THE ASSEMBLY TO RECOGNIZE THE VETERANS AND TO END OUR REPORT NEXT WEEK WE HAVE A WINTER SPIRIT WEEK, AND ACTUALLY IT'S THIS WEEK.
SO WE TODAY WE DRESSED UP IN PJS AND BLANKETS.
TOMORROW IS HOLIDAY COLORS, WEDNESDAY IS WINTER GEAR AND THURSDAYS IS HOLIDAY.
HOLIDAY'S IN JULY AND FRIDAY IS UGLY SWEATER DAY, AND THANK YOU FOR LISTENING TO OUR REPORT.
ARE THERE ANY QUESTIONS? DO WE HAVE? DO WE HAVE TOTALS FOR STUFF THE BUS YET? I THINK FOR THE POINTS THERE WAS 17,000 POINTS COLLECTED FOR CAMAS, BUT YEAH.
ANYTHING ELSE FOR THEM? ALL RIGHT.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH. APPRECIATE IT.
SO EARLIER THIS AFTERNOON, WE ACTUALLY STARTED OUR WORKSHOP A LITTLE BIT LATE BECAUSE WE WERE OVER CHECKING OUT THE THE MAGNET PROGRAMS SYMPOSIUM OVER IN THE OVER IN THE ZACH GYM.
WE HAVE A COUPLE OF WE HAVE A COUPLE OF SAMPLE PRESENTATIONS NOW THAT WE ARE GOING TO DO OVER HERE, I'M NOT SURE IF WE HAVE ANY INTRODUCTIONS FOR THAT OR IF WE JUST WANT TO CALL UP THE STUDENTS OR YOU'RE GOING TO.
YES. SO MY NAME IS BRIANNA ABRAHAM.
I WANT TO TAKE YOU BACK THREE YEARS, 2020 RIGHT, THIS CLASS OF SENIORS STARTED THEIR HIGH SCHOOL PROGRAM AT HOME REMOTE LEARNING.
IT WAS NOT IDEAL, AND IT WAS REALLY, REALLY DIFFICULT, AND THEY DIDN'T GET TO COME ON CAMPUS AT CAMAS HIGH SCHOOL UNTIL FEBRUARY 2021, AND THEN ON CAMPUS, THEY GOT TO SIT FOR THREE HOURS IN THE LIBRARY WITH ME, BECAUSE WE HAD TO WORRY ABOUT HAVING THE RIGHT NUMBER OF STUDENTS IN OUR CAFETERIA FOR EATING LUNCH.
SO WE HAD A REALLY, REALLY LONG STUDY HALL, AND SO I GOT TO KNOW THEM REALLY WELL.
WE PLAYED A LOT OF GAMES, WE DID A LOT OF TALKING, AND I HAVE TO SAY THAT STARTING FRESHMAN YEAR HIGH SCHOOL, WITH THAT KIND OF START AND COMING TO WHERE THEY HAVE COME THREE AND A HALF YEARS LATER IS REALLY A TESTAMENT OF WHAT THEY ARE, WHO THEY ARE AS PEOPLE AND AS STUDENTS, AND THEY'RE REALLY INCREDIBLE.
SO I WANT TO SAY I HAVE IT'S BEEN SUCH A JOY WORKING WITH YOU GUYS, AND YOU GET TO SEE SOME OF JUST A GLIMPSE OF THEIR EXPERIENCE OVER THE LAST THREE YEARS, AND AS ALWAYS, WE COULD NOT DO WHAT WE DO WITHOUT YOU.
WE ARE SO APPRECIATIVE OF THE SUPPORT OF THE WHOLE DISTRICT AND OF COURSE, THE SCHOOL BOARD AND I WANT YOU TO KNOW THAT THE STUDENTS APPRECIATE IT AND THEY'RE AMAZING, AND THAT'S BECAUSE OF THE SUPPORT WE GET.
SO I REALLY APPRECIATE THAT, AND WE'RE GOING TO START WITH SHIVAN.
RIGHT. SO SHIVAN FRIEDMAN IS GOING TO COME UP AND LET YOU KNOW WHAT HE DID.
SO MY NAME IS SHIVAN FRIEDMAN.
SO FOR MY INTERNSHIP, I WENT TO SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA AND I WORKED AT VENTURA COUNTY VASCULAR CENTER.
SO STARTING AT CAMAS, I MADE MY WAY DOWN TO SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA.
SO AT VENTURA COUNTY VASCULAR CENTER, WE WORKED ON THE VASCULAR HEALTH, SO ARTERIES AND VEINS, AND I TOOK A SPECIAL FOCUS TO A DISEASE CALLED PERIPHERAL ARTERY DISEASE, WHICH IS THE CLOTTING AROUND YOUR BODY.
SO HERE'S THE VASCULAR SYSTEM.
RIGHT, AND THEN HERE ARE SOME PERIPHERAL CLOTS THESE LITTLE WHITE DOTS.
SO TAKING A CLOSER LOOK AT THESE CLOTS IS WHAT I WAS DOING FOR MY INTERNSHIP.
PRETTY MUCH WHEN THESE CLOTS GROW PATIENTS RUN A HIGH RISK OF AMPUTATIONS, HEART ATTACKS, STROKES AND PULMONARY EMBOLISMS, WHICH OCCUR WHEN A CLOT REACHES THE LUNGS AND IT PREVENTS OXYGENATION OF BLOOD AND OFFICIATES.
SO TO PREVENT THIS VASCULAR SURGEONS, WHAT THEY DO IS THEY INSERT A BALLOON INTO THE VEINS AND THE ARTERIES WHERE THESE CRITICAL PLAQUE BUILDUPS ARE, AND THEY BLOW UP THE BLOW UP THE BALLOON IN ORDER TO PUSH THIS PLAQUE TO THE SIDE, OPENING UP THE VESSEL SO MORE OXYGEN CAN FLOW.
SO TAKING THIS INTO ACCOUNT, I LOOKED INTO DRUG COATED BALLOONS.
IT'S THE SAME EXACT PROCESS OF AS THESE BALLOONS.
[01:10:01]
HOWEVER, THEY'RE COATED WITH A CANCER TREATMENT DRUG, WHICH PREVENTS THESE THE CELLS FROM RE-GROWING.THEY HAD AN ENDURING EFFECT ON THE VASCULAR HEALTH OF THESE PATIENTS.
SO SEEN HERE IS A PICTURE DURING ONE OF THE OPERATIONS AND I FEEL LIKE THIS PICTURE RIGHT HERE REALLY ENCAPSULATES MY INTERNSHIP, BUT MORE SO ENCAPSULATES MY EXPERIENCE THAT I'VE HAD IN MAGNET.
THE ENTIRE INTERNSHIP WAS VERY INTERACTIVE.
I FELT AS THOUGH AS A MEDICAL STUDENT MY MENTOR, DOCTOR GUO, I'D BE ASKED QUESTIONS DURING THE OPERATIONS AND I WAS ALMOST A PART, ALMOST LIKE A NURSE DURING THESE OPERATIONS, AND TO AN EXTENT, IT'S LIKE MAGNET THE WAY THIS INTERACTIVE AND IT BUILDS ON EACH OTHER, AND I MEAN STARTING MY MAGNET, STARTING MAGNET FRESHMAN YEAR, ESPECIALLY WITH COVID, AS MISS [INAUDIBLE] SAID, IT WAS DIFFERENT, AND TRUTHFULLY EIGHTH GRADE WHEN WE TOOK OUR TEST TO GET INTO MAGNET, I REALLY RESENTED THE IDEA OF DOING MAGNET.
[CHUCKLING] SO THAT'S WHY I'M HERE, AND I HONESTLY THINK THAT DOING MAGNET WAS THE BEST DECISION I HONESTLY MADE IN MY ENTIRE HIGH SCHOOL CAREER, AND IF I WERE TO DO IT AGAIN, I WOULDN'T CHANGE ANYTHING ABOUT IT.
I MEAN, MAGNET, ESPECIALLY WITH COVID I BUILT SUCH A TIGHT KNIT COMMUNITY WITH ALL MY FRIENDS, AND WE WERE CONSTANTLY PUSHING EACH OTHER TO BE BETTER, DO BETTER, BUT IT WAS ALWAYS FUN AND INVITING.
SEEN ON THE LEFT IS, I BELIEVE, MY FIRST DAY OF HYBRID LEARNING FRESHMAN YEAR.
SO EVERYBODY MASKED UP AND THEN ABOVE THAT, THAT'S MY SOPHOMORE RESEARCH GROUP.
MADDIE, WHO YOU WILL SEE MOMENTARILY WAS IN THAT, AND IT WAS A LOT OF FUN.
ALL YEAR, WE WERE WORKING ON PHYSICAL THERAPY AND IT WAS LOOKING INTO BALANCE, AND THEN EVERY YEAR, AS WE HAD EARLIER TODAY A SYMPOSIUM, AS YOU SEE IN THE BOTTOM WITH MY FRIEND JOSH, AND THEN ON THE FAR RIGHT IS ANOTHER RESEARCH PROJECT THAT I THOROUGHLY ENJOYED BECAUSE WE WERE LIGHTING STUFF ON FIRE, BUT WE WERE REALLY AT THE AT THE ROOT OF IT.
YES. SO I AM OPEN TO ANY QUESTIONS.
IS THIS A FIELD YOU WANT TO GO INTO? SO, TRUTHFULLY, GOING INTO MY INTERNSHIP, I WANTED TO DO SOMETHING WITH ENGINEERING, BUT AFTER COVID, A LOT OF ENGINEERING FIRMS, THEY ARE ALL ONLINE NOW.
SO IT MADE IT REALLY DIFFICULT.
ALL RIGHT. THAT'S GREAT SCHOOL EXPERIENCES, PREPARING FOR THE FUTURE.
THAT'S WHAT WE'RE ALL ABOUT, RIGHT? ALL RIGHT. FUTURE READY, THERE IT IS.
THAT WAS GREAT. THANK YOU. WE'VE GOT ONE MORE.
I'M MADDIE WILLIAMS. I AM A SENIOR ALSO IN THE MAGNET PROGRAM AT CHS, AND I'M SO EXCITED THAT I GET TO TALK TO YOU A LITTLE BIT ABOUT WHAT I DID THIS SUMMER WITH MY INTERNSHIP AND MY RESEARCH.
SO I ACTUALLY COMPLETED A FIVE WEEK INTERNSHIP AT THE PEACEHEALTH ANATOMIC PATHOLOGY LAB.
IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS, NEITHER DID I WHEN I STARTED.
[CHUCKLING] SO BASICALLY IT IS A LAB ABOVE THE E.R.
MY FIRST WEEK IN THE LAB WAS FASCINATING TO ME.
ONE THING THAT MAGNET HAS GIVEN ME IS A DEEP LOVE OF LEARNING IN GENERAL.
SO THAT FIRST WEEK WHERE I GOT TO LEARN ALL THE BEHIND THE SCENES PROCESSES LIKE THE CUTTING OF TISSUES, THE PRESERVING THEM, PREPARING THEM FOR PATHOLOGISTS TO READ WAS FASCINATING TO ME HOWEVER, THE FIRST THING THAT I ACTUALLY GOT REALLY GOOD AT AT THE HOSPITAL WAS SENDING EMAILS.
SO SHOCKINGLY, AS A STUDENT, WE DON'T SEND THAT MANY, AND PREPARING AN INTERNSHIP IN A HOSPITAL FOR A 17 YEAR OLD WAS MORE DIFFICULT THAN I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE SO A HUGE THANK YOU TO ABE AND MY PARENTS FOR COACHING ME ON THAT PART OF THE INTERNSHIP.
ONCE THE BALL GOT ROLLING, HOWEVER, IT GOT A LITTLE BIT BETTER.
I GOT TO SPEND A WEEK SHADOWING THE HEAD PATHOLOGIST.
HER NAME IS DOCTOR CAMILLA ALLEN.
[01:15:05]
WHOLE HOST OF OTHER ORGANS AND THEIR DISEASES, AND WHAT SHE LOOKS FOR IN THEM.ON MONDAY MORNING, THE LAB TECHS COME BACK IN AND PUT THEM ON A PRESERVATIVE CALLED FORMALIN, BUT THE SAMPLES THAT ARE TAKEN DURING THE WEEK ARE PUT ON THAT FORMALIN WITHIN 1 TO 2 HOURS OF BEING TAKEN FROM THE PATIENT.
SO WE WANTED TO LOOK AT THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN BETWEEN THE DECAY OF THOSE SAMPLES THAT ARE TAKEN AND WAIT THAT 48 HOUR PERIOD AND THOSE THAT ARE TAKEN ALMOST IMMEDIATELY TO DO THAT. I WORKED WITH ANOTHER PATHOLOGIST, DOCTOR SINGH.
WE TOOK 12 GALLBLADDER SAMPLES, ONE OF WHICH WAS PRESERVED WITHIN 23 MINUTES OF BEING REMOVED, WHICH IS A VERY QUICK TURNAROUND AND THE OTHERS, WHICH HAD TO WAIT AT LEAST 48 HOURS OVER EITHER A WEEKEND OR A HOLIDAY.
SO ON THE RIGHT, WHAT YOU SEE HERE IS A WELL PRESERVED GALLBLADDER SAMPLE, WHERE YOU CAN SEE ALL THE DIFFERENT LAYERS, AND THE PURPLE DOTS, WHICH ARE THE NUCLEI WHICH WE USE FOR DIAGNOSES. HOWEVER, ON THE LEFT YOU SEE ALMOST NONE OF THAT.
IN THAT CASE, ANOTHER SAMPLE WOULD HAVE TO BE TAKEN FROM THE PATIENT, WHICH OBVIOUSLY IS DETRIMENTAL TO PATIENT CARE AND WOULD BACK UP THE PROCESS AND CAUSE A LOT MORE STRESS AND EVERYTHING FOR THE PATIENT.
SO THE PATHOLOGIST AND I WERE BOTH SHOCKED TO SEE THIS DIFFERENCE IN A HOSPITAL POLICY THAT'S BEEN IMPLEMENTED AROUND THE NATION FOR SO LONG, AND WE AGREED THAT MORE RESEARCH DOES NEED TO BE DONE WITH MEASURING DIFFERENT ORGANS TO SEE IF IT PRODUCES THE SAME RESULT, AND IF IT DOES, THEN OBVIOUSLY HOSPITAL POLICY WOULD ALSO HAVE TO CHANGE SLIGHTLY TO GET THOSE LAB TECHS IN OVER THE WEEKEND.
SO WE DON'T HAVE THIS DELAY PERIOD AND THE DECAY SHOWN HERE.
SO I HAVE A LOT OF THANK YOU'S TO GIVE FOR THIS PRESENTATION AND FOR THIS PROJECT IN GENERAL.
THE FIRST ONE OBVIOUSLY BEING TO BOTH BE PATHOLOGISTS.
THEY WERE PHENOMENAL TEACHERS.
I ALSO HAVE TO THANK MR. GREEN AND ABE FOR THEIR CONSTANT GUIDANCE AND TEACHING THROUGHOUT ALL OF HIGH SCHOOL AND WITH THIS PROJECT HELPING ME SET IT UP, OF COURSE, MY PARENTS.
I HAVE A HUGE THANK YOU TO THEM AS WELL.
THIS WAS A PHENOMENAL EXPERIENCE FOR ME.
SLIGHTLY DIFFERENTLY FROM SHIVAN I'VE KNOWN THAT I'M INTERESTED IN THE MEDICAL FIELD FOR A LONG TIME, AND THIS OPPORTUNITY OF ACTUALLY GETTING TO BE IN A HOSPITAL AND SEEING THAT WORK SETTING AND A LITTLE BIT OF THE POWER DYNAMICS AND JUST EVERYTHING THAT GOES ON BEHIND THE SCENES WAS FASCINATING TO ME AND REALLY CEMENTED THAT.
IT'S A PATH THAT I WANT TO PURSUE.
THAT HAS GIVEN ME SOME OF MY BEST FRIENDS.
I HAVE MULTIPLE PICTURES FROM OUR ASHLAND TRIP, WHICH WE GOT TO TAKE WITH A BUNCH OF MAGNETOS AND EXPLORE ASHLAND WATCH SOME PLAYS, WHICH WAS SO FUN AND SUCH A GREAT BONDING EXPERIENCE FOR US. IN THE BOTTOM RIGHT.
WE HAVE MY FRIENDS AND I AT THE MAGNET FRESHMAN ORIENTATION, WHERE WE GET TO BRING THOSE FRESHMEN INTO OUR COMMUNITY AND MAKE THEM FEEL SEEN AND WELCOME, AND OF COURSE, IN THE MIDDLE, WE HAVE A PICTURE FROM THAT SOPHOMORE RESEARCH GROUP THAT SHIVAN TALKED ABOUT AT OUR FINAL SYMPOSIUM AND OUR AWARD CEREMONY.
SO MAGNET HAS GIVEN ME MULTIPLE OPPORTUNITIES, MY BEST FRIENDS AND SOME AMAZING MENTORS, AND SO I'D LIKE TO THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SUPPORTING THE MAGNET PROGRAM AND CONTINUING TO GIVE THESE OPPORTUNITIES AND FRIENDS TO STUDENTS, AND IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS FOR ME, I'D BE HAPPY TO ANSWER THEM.
THIS IS ALWAYS ONE OF MY. I'M JUST ALWAYS BLOWN AWAY.
LIKE I FEEL DUMB WHEN I SIT UP HERE.
THIS IS WHEN WE GET TO VISIT THE SYMPOSIUM EVERY YEAR IT'S ALWAYS A HIGHLIGHT FOR US.
COREY IT IS ONE OF OUR FAVORITE THINGS.
WE DO LOTS OF FUN THINGS, BUT THIS IS A GREAT NIGHT FOR US AND WISH WE COULD HAVE SPENT MORE TIME OVER THERE, BUT JUST LISTENING TO YOUR PRESENTATION AND SHIVAN AND EVERYONE ELSE OVER THERE IS JUST. I'M AMAZED AT WHAT YOU GUYS DO IN THE AND THE OPPORTUNITIES THAT YOU HAVE WITH THESE INTERNSHIPS AND JUST THE BOND THAT YOU GET, AND I LOVE THAT YOU CALLED THEM MAGNETOS. MAGNETOS.
SO SO GREAT JOB AND CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL OF YOU.
WHAT A GREAT START TO THE MEETING.
[6. OATH OF OFFICE]
[01:20:08]
THEIR FULL FOUR YEAR TERMS. WE HAVE CLARK COUNTY AUDITOR GREG KIMSEY HERE, WHO'S GOING TO SWEAR YOU IN.SO I BELIEVE YOU GUYS NEED TO JUST STAND RIGHT THERE.
WELL, AS YOU SAID THIS IS REALLY A FUN EVENING.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR HAVING ME OUT.
SO THANK YOU TO EACH OF YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE.
FOR THAT SORT OF ENERGY, THAT SORT OF STUFF MAKES THE JOB A LITTLE EASIER, DOESN'T IT? SO, UM.
NOT QUITE AS TALL AS THE OTHER GUY SO IF YOU'LL RAISE YOUR RIGHT HAND REPEAT AFTER ME, AND THEN AFTER I SAY I, THEN YOU'LL SAY I THEN STATE YOUR NAME, SO I DO SOLEMNLY SWEAR THAT I AM A CITIZEN OF THE UNITED STATES, AND OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON.
THAT I WILL SUPPORT THE CONSTITUTION, AND LAWS OF THE UNITED STATES, AND THE CONSTITUTION AND LAWS OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON, AND WILL TO THE BEST OF MY JUDGMENT SKILL AND ABILITY TRULY, FAITHFULLY, DILIGENTLY, AND IMPARTIALLY PERFORM THE DUTIES OF THE OFFICE OF CAMAS SCHOOL DISTRICT NUMBER 117 SCHOOL DIRECTOR DISTRICT.
THANK YOU. IN AND FOR CLARK COUNTY, WASHINGTON AS SUCH DUTIES ARE PRESCRIBED BY LAW.
WELL DONE. THANK YOU VERY MUCH.
THAT FEELS GOOD, I DON'T KNOW.
CONGRATULATIONS. CONGRATULATIONS YOU THREE.
THANKS AGAIN, GREG, FOR COMING OUT, I APPRECIATE IT.
THAT'S ALWAYS FUN TO GET HIM ALL THE WAY OUT HERE.
I MEAN, YEAH WE HAVE THE TECHNOLOGY NOW.
YEAH. OKAY THAT MOVES US ON TO ITEM SEVEN, BOARD COMMUNICATION.
[7. BOARD COMMUNICATION]
ANYTHING WE WANT TO SHARE WITH THE GROUP, OR LET US KNOW WHAT YOU'VE BEEN DOING FOR THE LAST COUPLE OF WEEKS.[INAUDIBLE] YOU'RE GOOD. OKAY.
ONLY TWO WEEKS SINCE OUR LAST BOARD MEETING. THE ONLY THING I'M GOING TO ADD IT'S A LITTLE SELFISH, BUT I AM IN MY DAY JOB, ONE OF THE THINGS THAT I'M DOING IS I RUN A COUNTYWIDE HONOR BAND, WHICH IS LIKE AN ALL STAR TEAM FOR BAND STUDENTS FOR MIDDLE SCHOOL AND HIGH SCHOOL, AND I WAS REALLY EXCITED TO SEE THAT WE HAD SEVERAL CAMAS STUDENTS THAT WERE ACCEPTED FOR THAT.
SO IT'S ABOUT A 70 PERSON MIDDLE SCHOOL HONOR BAND.
THAT'S ALL THE, THE MIDDLE SCHOOLS IN CLARK COUNTY A COUPLE FROM COWLITZ.
DIDN'T GET ANY, DIDN'T GET ANY CAMAS HIGH SCHOOL OR DISCOVERY STUDENTS THIS TIME AROUND AT THE HIGH SCHOOL BAND, BUT WE HOPE THAT THEY'LL APPLY NEXT YEAR, BUT IT'S JUST A GREAT A GREAT OPPORTUNITY, GREAT RECOGNITION FOR THEM.
FEBRUARY 3RD, 6:00, HAWKINSON HIGH SCHOOL.
THEY'LL BE DOING A CONCERT WORKING WITH THE GUEST CONDUCTOR.
IT'S LIKE ONE TIME ONLY THING.
SO IT'S A REALLY COOL, REALLY COOL THING.
SO I HOPE YOU'LL JOIN US OUT THERE.
IT'S FREE. FREE IS A VERY GOOD PRICE, AS WE KNOW.
SO ALL RIGHT ANYTHING ELSE FOR BOARD COMMUNICATION? SORRY I KIND OF COMMANDEERED THAT.
[01:25:08]
CLOUD. SECURITY TECHNOLOGY? MY HEADQUARTERS ARE DOWN IN SAN JOSE, AND SO IF ANYBODY LIVES IN MY AREA I QUICKLY FOUND THEM OUT AND CREATED A SOCIAL OPPORTUNITY, AND I MOSTLY THERE'S ONLY UNDER A DOZEN THAT LIVE AROUND IN THIS AREA, AND THEY'RE MOSTLY ENGINEERS, AND I'M IN MARKETING COMMS, SO WE HAD A LOT TO TALK ABOUT.WE DIDN'T. IT'S A JOKE, BUT WE GOT TOGETHER AND HAD LUNCH AND IT JUST WHEN I TALK ABOUT MY PASSION FOR OUR COMMUNITY AND FOR OUR SCHOOLS, IT JUST GOT SOME OF THEM STARTING TO TALK AND, AND THINK ABOUT.
OH, WOW SO INTERNSHIPS AND IT MADE ME START THINKING ABOUT CTE, AND I GOT TO EXPLAIN WHAT THAT IS TO THESE ENGINEERS, AND I JUST THINK THAT THERE ARE OPPORTUNITIES AROUND US, AND THAT'S WHAT IT REMINDED ME OF, AND SO I'LL BE TALKING WITH DEREK ABOUT THE ENGINEERS THAT LIVE IN OUR AREA, AND HOPEFULLY THERE'S SOMETHING BECAUSE WE LIVE IN A REMOTE WORLD AND THAT'S I WORK IN THE ROOM ABOVE MY GARAGE RIGHT, AND SO DO SO MANY OTHER PEOPLE, BUT THERE'S OPPORTUNITIES FOR OUR STUDENTS WHEN PEOPLE START TO THINK ABOUT WHO THEY'RE IN CONTACT WITH AND WHO THEY WORK FOR THAT WAS JUST KIND OF AN AHA MOMENT.
AWESOME. ALL RIGHT. ANYBODY ELSE? ANYTHING TO SHARE? NO.
OKAY. WE'LL MOVE ON TO ITEM EIGHT ON THE AGENDA IS PUBLIC COMMENTS.
WE DID NOT HAVE ANYBODY SIGN UP FOR PUBLIC COMMENT, SO WE WILL
[9. ITEMS ADDED TO THE AGENDA]
MOVE ON FROM THAT.BEFORE WE DO OUR CONSENT AGENDA I DID HAVE ONE OTHER STUDENT REPORT OR STUDENT PRESENTATION THAT I WANTED TO SLIDE INTO IN YOUR CONSENT AGENDA, WE HAVE A CLUB REQUEST FOR THE MATH CLUB AT DISCOVERY HIGH SCHOOL, AND WE HAD SOMEBODY WHO WAS GOING TO SPEAK TO THAT.
AM I CORRECT ON THAT? ALL RIGHT. I'M SORRY I DIDN'T GET YOUR NAME.
SO COME ON UP TO EITHER OF THE MICROPHONES AND JUST TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT WHAT'S GOING ON.
YOU CAN PULL IT OFF IF YOU WANT.
SERAPHINA AND ELLIOT, AND WE'RE HERE TO TALK ABOUT TWO THINGS.
NUMBER ONE, WHY WE WANT THE MATH CLUB, AND NUMBER TWO, THE GROUPS ON WHY WE THINK THEY'RE IMPORTANT.
THE MAIN REASONS WHY WE WANT OUR MATH CLUB TO BE APPROVED IS BECAUSE WE CAN'T EXACTLY COMPETE IF WE ARE NOT UNDER A SCHOOL NAME, AND ALSO WE REALLY WANT TO BE ABLE TO ENHANCE THE INDIVIDUAL SKILLS OF PEOPLE IN MATHEMATICS, BECAUSE I DEFINITELY KNOW WITH HOW MUCH I STRUGGLED ON SOME OF THE ASSIGNMENTS THAT WE WERE HANDED OUT BY MATH COUNTS, THAT A LOT OF THINGS THAT ARE NOT COVERED BY ILLUSTRATIVE IS IN SOME OF THESE COURSES.
WITHOUT THE APPROVAL OF A SCHOOL, AND WE ARE ONLY ABLE TO COMPETE IN INDIVIDUAL COMPETITIONS AND WE ARE NOT ALLOWED TO BE IN ANY OF THE TEAM COMPETITIONS, WHICH IS NOT FUN FOR US AND ALSO COMPETING IN THE TEAM.
WE GET A LOT OF CHANCES TO COMPETE WITH OTHER TEAMS FROM OTHER SCHOOLS IN REGIONAL STATES OR NATIONAL AND THAT'S WHY WE NEED YOUR HELP TO BECOME AN OFFICIAL TEAM.
BECAUSE WE ARE AT ODYSSEY MIDDLE SCHOOL.
WE ARE A PROJECT BASED COMMUNITY.
SO WITH A GROUP WE CAN LEARN A LOT OF SKILLS LIKE TEAMWORK AND COLLABORATION, WHICH IS ANOTHER BIG REASON WHY WE WANTED TO GROUP, AND THAT IS THE MAIN REASONS WHY WE WANT OUR.
THANK YOU. SO PLEASE GIVE US YOUR SEAL OF APPROVAL.
WELL, THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR THAT.
NO, THAT'S GREAT, AND I'M ACTUALLY GLAD THAT THEY PRESENTED THAT BECAUSE THAT AS I WAS REVIEWING THIS, I'M GOING THERE'S A LITTLE, A LITTLE TYPO IN OUR AGENDA BECAUSE I INTRODUCED YOU AS THE DISCOVERY HIGH SCHOOL MATH CLUB AND AS I LOOK AT THE PAPERWORK AGAIN, IT'S ACTUALLY ODYSSEY MIDDLE SCHOOL.
SO WE WILL MAKE THAT CHANGE IN OUR CONSENT AGENDA.
SO THANK YOU FOR FOR POINTING THAT OUT.
WE LOVE I KNOW LAST TIME WE VISITED UP AT ODYSSEY AND DISCOVERY, WE STARTED SEEING A LOT MORE OF THE DIFFERENT CLUBS AND GROUPS THAT ARE STARTING TO SPROUT UP THERE WHERE I DON'T WANT TO GET AHEAD OF THE BOARD, BUT I'M EXCITED TO SEE THIS ONE.
THANK YOU. SO WITH THAT WE HAVE YEAH
[10. CONSENT AGENDA]
SO SINCE THE SINCE ODYSSEY THE MATH CLUB IS ACTUALLY PART OF OUR CONSENT AGENDA HERE I'LL JUST LOOK FOR A MOTION AND A SECOND TO APPROVE THE CONSENT AGENDA, AND IF THAT PASSES, THEN WE HAVE OUR MATH CLUB AT ODYSSEY.[01:30:02]
I'LL MAKE A MOTION TO APPROVE THE CONSENT AGENDA WITH THE CHANGE TO THE TO THE MATH CLUB TO BE ODYSSEY MIDDLE SCHOOL.OKAY. SO IT WAS MOVED BY ERIKA.
SECONDED BY CONNIE. ANY FURTHER DISCUSSION? ALL THOSE IN FAVOR? AYE. OPPOSED? MOTION CARRIES.
OFFICIAL! [CHUCKLING] THANK YOU.
ALL RIGHT. WE ALSO JUST TO GIVE EVERYBODY IN THE AUDIENCE A HEADS UP.
YOU ARE WELCOME TO STAY FOR THE REST OF OUR MEETING.
WE'RE GOING TO WE'RE MOVING ON TO KIND OF THE BUSINESS PORTION OF THE MEETING.
THERE ISN'T A WHOLE LOT MORE CELEBRATIONS GOING ON.
NOT THAT THE REST OF IT ISN'T EXCITING, BUT IF YOU DO WANT TO EXCUSE YOURSELVES, WE DO UNDERSTAND.
SO WE'LL GIVE US JUST A SECOND HERE TO GET SET UP FOR THE SUPERINTENDENT'S REPORT.
ALL RIGHT. I THINK WE'RE READY HERE FOR DOCTOR ANZALONE.
[11. REPORTS]
SUPERINTENDENT REPORT.GO AHEAD. WELL, WHAT A GREAT EVENING.
UH, A LOT OF WONDERFUL PRESENTATIONS.
I WAS HOPING ALL OF THESE PEOPLE WERE HERE FOR THE SUP' REPORT, BUT EVIDENTLY NOT.
THANK YOU. THOSE OF YOU WHO STUCK AROUND.
SO NO NEW ENROLLMENT UPDATES YOU SEE AT THE TOP.
THIS IS STILL NOVEMBER 15TH, BECAUSE WE TYPICALLY DON'T RUN OUR UPDATES UNTIL THE 15TH OF THE MONTH.
JUST A COUPLE THINGS I WANTED TO POINT OUT FROM THIS ONE, THOUGH LAST MONTH WE OR IN DECEMBER WE TALKED ABOUT CCA AND THE CONTINUOUS GROWTH AND NOTICED DOCTOR DAN LEFT, BUT I JUST WANTED TO BRING THE BOARD'S ATTENTION TO THAT BECAUSE THIS IS THE TIME OF YEAR AND I THINK, CONNIE, YOU KNOW THIS.
WELL THIS IS WHEN WE START TO SEE THOSE STUDENT NEEDS FROM OUR COMPREHENSIVE SCHOOLS AND EVEN DISCOVERY AND HAYES LOOKING FOR ONLINE OPTIONS FOR VARIOUS REASONS, WHETHER IT'S MENTAL HEALTH, IT COULD BE PHYSICAL ISSUES, IT COULD BE CREDIT RECOVERY, A SLEW OF THINGS.
SO WE'RE WORKING REALLY CLOSELY WITH OUR STAFFING TEAM TO POTENTIALLY LOOK AT ADDITIONAL FTE AT AT CCA FOR NEXT SEMESTER AND SO THOUGH WE HAVEN'T MADE A FINAL DECISION YET, I DO WANT TO LET THE BOARD KNOW THAT WE'RE ACTIVELY LOOKING AND KEEPING UP WITH THAT INCREASE OF NUMBERS BECAUSE REMEMBER, THERE ARE CLASS SIZE CAPS VIA AN MOU THAT WE HAVE WITH CCA.
SO EVEN AN ONLINE COURSE, WE HAVE TO WATCH THOSE, THOSE CLASS SIZE NUMBERS.
OTHER THAN THAT I THINK I POINTED OUT RATHER UM, CONSISTENT OVER AT ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS.
HELEN BALLARD, WITH THAT SLIGHT DROP OF SEVEN STUDENTS FROM OCTOBER TO NOVEMBER OF COURSE, THE CHS IS TYPICAL AROUND THIS TIME OF YEAR, THOSE 21 STUDENTS WITH A MAJORITY GOING OVER TO CCA.
SO THOUGHTS OR COMMENTS ABOUT ANY OF THAT ON ENROLLMENT, I WOULD JUST ASK AS AS KIDS ARE MOVING BETWEEN SCHOOLS, IS THERE A THRESHOLD AT WHICH WE WOULD MOVE STAFF TO AS THE POPULATION OF THE STUDENTS REALLOCATE TO DIFFERENT.
WHAT WE'RE TALKING ABOUT INTERNALLY IS PUTTING SOME GUIDELINES AS FAR AS IF STUDENTS DO TRANSFER.
IN THE PAST, WE'VE SEEN STUDENTS THEN KIND OF GET WHAT THEY NEED AND THEN TRANSFER BACK, AND WHAT HAPPENS THEN IS TO YOUR POINT IS, IF WE OVERLOAD ANOTHER SCHOOL WITH STAFFING, THEN WE'RE KIND OF HAVE THAT STAFFING WITHOUT THE NEED.
SO WE KIND OF WATCH THAT UNLESS IT'S AN ABSOLUTE NEED WITH THE FTE OBVIOUSLY THAT WOULD CHANGE THE STAFFING THERE, BUT WE JUST WANT TO BE CAUTIOUS NOT TO OVER STAFF OR TO PUT SOMETHING IN PLACE WHERE IF A STUDENT DOES GO TO CCA, THEY NEED TO STAY THROUGH A TRIMESTER OR A SEMESTER.
AS YOU KNOW WE'VE STARTED OUR LEVY ROAD SHOW.
I DO WANT TO THANK AGAIN MARK KLEIN AND PAT HENNESSEY FOR THEIR CO LEADERSHIP THERE WE HAVE A GREAT TEAM THAT'S PUTTING PUT TOGETHER SO FAR I BELIEVE WE'VE PRESENTED AT SKY RIDGE LIBERTY PRUNE HILL I HOPE I'M NOT MISSING ONE THERE.
[01:35:03]
WE HAVE WOODBURN BRIGHT AND EARLY IN THE MORNING AND AGAIN, THE TEAM HAS BEEN VERY HELPFUL.DOREEN HAS BEEN AT ALMOST EVERY ONE RACHEL BEST FROM COMMUNITY ED HAS BEEN A STRONG PART OF THAT WE'VE HAD GREAT CONVERSATIONS WITH MARCY AND HER TEAM ABOUT [INAUDIBLE] PARTNERSHIP, AS WELL AS SARAH AND BOB FROM THE OTHER BARGAINING UNIT.
SO I REALLY APPRECIATE THE COMMUNITY IMPACT ON THIS AND THEIR LEVEL OF ENGAGEMENT, AND AS WE HIT JANUARY, THAT'S WHEN YOU'LL NOTICE THINGS REALLY RAMPING UP AS FAR AS GETTING OUT TO THE COMMUNITY AND THE ACTUAL CAMPAIGN PIECE.
SO AGAIN JUST JUST ONE SLIDE I'LL ADD TO THIS IS JUST SO YOU KNOW, INFORMATIONALLY AGAIN, ELECTION DATE FEBRUARY 13TH, WHICH IS ALSO ANOTHER SPECIAL DATE, RIGHT AND THOSE WILL BE LISTED ON OUR BALLOTS AS PROPOSITION SIX AND PROPOSITION SEVEN.
SO THE BIG ONE, OF COURSE, SIX, AND THE SMALLER CAPITAL LEVY AS NUMBER SEVEN.
OKAY AS FAR AS IN AND AROUND CAMAS SCHOOL DISTRICT.
THIS ARE SOME SHOTS FROM OUR STUDENT ADVISORY COMMITTEE WORK OVER AT DOROTHY FOX.
THE BOTTOM RIGHT. YOU SEE KATIE SEIDEL, WHO GOES ALONG WITH US, AS WELL AS SHAUNA [INAUDIBLE], WHO IS A HUGE, HUGE HELP TO US AS WELL AGAIN, THE PRESENTATION SURROUNDS LABELING AND THE PITFALLS THAT STUDENTS CAN FALL INTO AND EVEN ADULTS, RIGHT? WHEN WE START LOOKING AT THE LABELING AND JUDGING, MAKING JUDGMENTS AND PREJUDICES TOWARDS OTHERS AND I WILL TELL YOU THE STUDENTS WANT TO KEEP THE CONVERSATION GOING.
WELL, AFTER THESE STUDENTS LEAVE THE SCHOOL BOTH BOTH DOCTOR SORK AND JULIE SWANN TOLD US THAT THE KIDS WANTED TO ALMOST CONTINUE THE LESSON, START TALKING ABOUT POSITIVE AFFIRMATIONS, AND IT REALLY LEAVES A GOOD IMAGE WITH THE KIDS AS THE KIDS LEAVE.
SO GREAT WORK HERE THESE ARE SOME MORE PICTURES FROM DOROTHY FOX.
UH, AND KIND OF SEE THE STUDENTS IN ACTION.
I TOLD CLINT, MADDIE IS A NATURAL TEACHER.
IT SPEAKS A THOUSAND WORDS WITH THAT CONFIDENCE AND THEN I LOVE THE ONE ON THE RIGHT WHERE OUR STUDENT FROM SAC KIND OF KNEELS DOWN TO THE KIDS LEVEL AND THEN YOU SEE SOPHIA SOPHIE IN THE BACK IN THE BACKGROUND THERE THESE PICTURES WERE FROM PRUNE HILL.
SO YOU SEE DOROTHY AT DOROTHY FOX.
THIS IS A SHOT FROM MY TOUR OVER AT CASCADIA TECH EVERY MONTH OR SO, OUR SUP' GROUP GOES OVER AND NOT ONLY DO WE DO SOME OF THE BUSINESS PART, BUT WE GET A TOUR, AND THIS WAS A TOUR OF THE 100 BUILDING, WHICH, BELIEVE IT OR NOT, HAS NOT CHANGED MUCH SINCE 1983 WHEN IT OPENED AND THEY ARE WORKING REALLY HARD WITH LEGISLATORS TO TRY TO GET SOME FUNDING FOR CASCADIA TECH, BUT OTHER TECH SCHOOLS AROUND WASHINGTON, BELIEVE IT OR NOT BUILDING 100 NEEDS $46 MILLION FACELIFT IN ORDER TO BRING IT UP TO SPEED, BUT I WILL TELL YOU, THEY MAKE INCREDIBLE WORK OUT OF THE SPACES THAT THEY HAVE.
THIS ROOM HERE WAS SIMPLY LIKE A HOME EC ROOM AT ONE POINT, AND AS THE PROGRAMS EVOLVE, THEY HAVE TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO MAKE IT WORK, AND YOU CAN SEE I LOVE THE STUDENT PATIENTS, AND WHEN THE CLASS WAS DISMISSED, I KIND OF MADE A JOKE THAT THEY ALL MADE IT.
THEY ALL SURVIVED. THEY GOT RIGHT UP OUT OF THEIR BEDS.
SO REALLY GOOD WORK HERE FROM THE KIDS.
TALK ABOUT HANDS ON LEARNING RAN INTO A LOT OF CAMAS KIDS THAT WERE TALKING TO ME ABOUT WHY THEY'VE CHOSEN ONE OF THE BIG KIND OF I WOULD SAY COMMON DENOMINATORS IS STUDENTS FROM HAYES BECAUSE OF THEIR SCHEDULE.
THEY'RE VERY ACCOMMODATING TO OUR STUDENTS IN CAMAS THE BLOCK SCHEDULE THAT THEY HAVE THE TRIMESTER SCHEDULE VERY CONDUCIVE TO GOING TO A CASCADIA TECH.
SO JUST SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT AS WE MOVE FORWARD WITH BELL SCHEDULES.
THIS WAS A PICTURE I BELIEVE I SENT OUT ON FIVE GOOD THINGS, BUT I WANTED TO JUST GIVE A SHOUT OUT.
[01:40:07]
SO REALLY COOL EVENT FOR OUR KIDS IN PBL AND ALSO CCA TO GET TOGETHER AND LEARN DIRECTLY FROM FROM AN ARTIST.SO ERIKA YOU TALK ABOUT THOSE KIND OF OPPORTUNITIES OUT THERE, REALLY APPRECIATE DOCTOR DAN AND MISS O'ROURKE OVER THERE TO BRING THE ARTIST IN TO CAMPUS REALLY WANTED TO EMPHASIZE THE WORK WITH LETTERS UNDER LISA AND JEN SCOTT'S LEADERSHIP.
YOU SEE JEN THERE WORKING WITH THIS COHORT MOVING TO THE NEXT LEVEL.
YOU SEE OUR TEACHERS THERE I WILL TELL YOU, AND YOU PROBABLY SAW THIS, I THINK WE TALKED ABOUT THE IMPACT THAT LETTERS AND THIS BRAIN RESEARCH IS HAVING ON THE DIRECT WORK IN OUR SCHOOLS.
YOU SAW IT IN YOUR DURING YOUR BOARD VISITS.
YOU'RE CONTINUING TO SEE THAT WORK JUST A DIRECT CORRELATION TO THIS PROJECT WITH LETTERS.
SO I JUST WANTED TO SHARE A COUPLE OF PICTURES FROM THIS LAST COHORT LESSON ON THE LEFT, THIS IS THE DOROTHY FOX PARADE THIS IS WHERE STUDENTS CREATED THEIR OWN FLOATS, SO TO SPEAK, AND THE WHOLE SCHOOL KIND OF WENT DOWN--COREY, I DON'T KNOW IF YOU REMEMBER HAVING THAT BACK IN YOUR FOX DAYS--BUT AWESOME WORK THERE.
GREAT LEADERSHIP, AS WE KNOW FROM DOROTHY FOX AND CATHY, AND THEN ON THE RIGHT WAS A BOOK, OUR BOOK BOWL, THE ANNUAL BOOK BOWL, WHERE STUDENTS FROM ALL AROUND ALL OF OUR SIX EXCEPT FOR CCA, BUT OUR SIX IN-PERSON ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS PARTICIPATED.
SEE THE KIDS THERE HAVING A GREAT TIME WITH BOOK TRIVIA.
I REMEMBER LAST YEAR HANNAH HOSTING OVER AT THE PUBLIC LIBRARY.
IS THAT WHAT DEREK SAID AT CABINET TODAY? DID ANYBODY PICK UP ON THAT? THAT WAS [INAUDIBLE]. NOT BOOK BOWL.
DO WE KNOW ANY RESULTS YET? OKAY. THANKS FOR CLARIFYING THAT, AND THAT'S IT.
I'LL HAVE MORE IN JANUARY, BUT HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO EVERYONE.
CAN'T WAIT FOR A LITTLE BREAK, WHICH WE ALL NEED.
ALL RIGHT. I THINK THAT BOOK BOWL, I'M LOOKING RIGHT NOW.
THE CHAMPIONSHIP. THE CHAMPIONSHIP UNTIL JANUARY.
ALL RIGHT. ANY OTHER QUESTIONS ABOUT THE SUPERINTENDENT'S REPORT? ALL RIGHT. OKAY WE JUST HAVE A COUPLE THINGS LEFT ON OUR BUSINESS AGENDA HERE.
[12. ANNUAL ORGANIZATIONAL ELECTIONS]
PRESIDENT FOR THE NEXT CALENDAR YEAR.VOTE ON THAT, AND THEN WE'LL DO NOMINATIONS FOR A VICE PRESIDENT, AND VOTE ON THAT.
I NOMINATE COREY MCENRY TO BE OUR PRESIDENT AGAIN BECAUSE YOU DO SUCH AN AWESOME JOB.
I WOULD SECOND THAT MOTION IF COREY WOULD ACCEPT IT.
OKAY NOBODY ELSE WANTS IT? OKAY, I WILL IF I CAN ADD REALLY QUICKLY AND OBVIOUSLY TRACEY.
I CAME IN WITH TRACEY AS AS BOARD PRESIDENT.
I DON'T KNOW HOW YOU DO IT, BUT I DO APPRECIATE YOUR LEADERSHIP, AND NOT THAT I DON'T APPRECIATE EVERYBODY ELSE'S, BUT I KNOW THERE'S AN EXTRA COMMITMENT AND JUST WORKING IN A DIFFERENT DISTRICT AND DOING THE JOB HERE, IT'S AWESOME.
SO I DON'T HAVE A VOTE, BUT I LIKE THE NOMINATION.
ALL RIGHT. I WAS KIND OF BUSY THIS LAST WEEK, SO I KIND OF DROPPED THE BALL ON TALKING TO ANY OF YOU ABOUT THIS, BUT IF YOU REALLY WANT ME TO CONTINUE, I WILL DO IT IF. OKAY.
ALL RIGHT. SO IT WAS MOVED BY WHO? CONNIE WAS AT YOU. OKAY.
OKAY. ANY OTHER DISCUSSION? ALL THOSE IN FAVOR? OKAY. OPPOSED? NO. I'M OKAY, I'M OKAY.
ALL RIGHT, AND THAT MOVES US DOWN TO VICE PRESIDENT.
I WOULD LIKE TO NOMINATE TRACEY MALONE FOR VICE PRESIDENT.
DISCUSSION ON THAT? OKAY, I WANT TO SAY A COUPLE THINGS THERE TOO.
OTHERWISE I'LL GET IN TROUBLE.
NO, I LOVE THAT BECAUSE TRACEY, WHEN I CAME ABOARD JUST SO WELCOMING, AND TO ME, NOT JUST ME, BUT MY WHOLE FAMILY, I REALLY APPRECIATED THAT YOU AND ERIKA COMING DOWN TO VISIT AND SINCE THAT POINT, I REALLY ENJOY YOUR BUSINESS SENSE AND WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TABLE.
[01:45:02]
SO ABSOLUTELY SUPPORT THAT NOMINATION AS WELL.I APPRECIATE YOUR HELP SERVING AS VICE PRESIDENT THE LAST COUPLE OF YEARS, SO I APPRECIATE THAT ALL RIGHT, SO WE HAVE A NOMINATION FOR TRACEY THAT WAS MOVED BY ERIKA, SECONDED BY CONNIE.
ALL RIGHT. ALL THOSE IN FAVOR? OPPOSED? ALL RIGHT.
OKAY, WELL, THAT TAKES US TO THE END OF OUR AGENDA.
WE DON'T HAVE ANY EXEC SESSION OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT.
SO IT'S 6:32 I WILL ADJOURN OUR MEETING.
OUR NEXT MEETING ISN'T UNTIL JANUARY 8TH.
SO, EVERYBODY, HAPPY HOLIDAYS, AND WE'LL SEE YOU NEXT YEAR.
