>> GOOD EVENING, EVERYONE.

[1. REGULAR MEETING CALL TO ORDER - 5:30 PM]

IT IS 05:30.

WELCOME TO OUR MARCH 25 BOARD MEETING.

WE ARE GOING TO START OUT WITH THE PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE.

IF EVERYONE IN THE ROOM WOULD PLEASE RISE IF THEY'RE ABLE, AND TRACY MALONE WILL LEAD US.

>> [INAUDIBLE] .

>> THANKS, TRACY.

NEXT IS CONNIE HENNESSY WITH THE LAND ACKNOWLEDGMENT.

>> I ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THE GEOGRAPHICAL REGION OF CAMAS IS LOCATED ON THE ANCESTRAL AND TERRITORIAL LANDS OF THE CHINOOK AND [INAUDIBLE] PEOPLE, AND THAT THE CHINOOK ARE STILL FIGHTING TO BE FEDERALLY RECOGNIZED TRIBE ON THEIR OWN LAND.

>> THANK YOU, CONNIE. MOVING ALONG TO START OUT ONE OF THE MORE POSITIVE BOARD MEETINGS I'M LOOKING AT ON THE AGENDA.

WE ARE CELEBRATING MUSIC IN OUR SCHOOLS MONTH, DURING THE MONTH OF MARCH.

TO START THINGS OUT, WE HAVE A PERFORMANCE TONIGHT FROM OUR DOROTHY FOX UKULELE PERFORMERS, AND THEIR WONDERFUL MUSIC EDUCATOR, MR. DUSTIN HUNLEY.

LET'S WELCOME THEM AND SIT BACK, RELAX AND ENJOY.

>> THANK YOU FOR HAVING US.

WE'RE THE DOROTHY FOX FOX PACK AND WE'VE BEEN RUNNING THIS SHOW.

I THINK I'VE BEEN DOING IT FOR 11 YEARS NOW.

GRANT, CAN YOU MOVE TO THE SIDE? THERE'S A PICTURE OF ME DRESS AS A PIRATE, PLAYING ON UKULELE FROM SO LONG AGO.

I'M CONSTANTLY REMINDED THAT IT'S HERE.

THE UKULELES HAS BEEN A REAL FUN THING.

WE GOT A BIG GRANT FROM THE CEF TO START THIS WHOLE THING OFF, AND WE'VE BEEN ROLLING EVER SINCE.

WE HAVE TWO PIECES WE'RE GOING TO SHARE.

THE FIRST ONE, THIS IS MY STUDENT TEACHER, MS [INAUDIBLE].

SHE'S BEEN HELPING US OUT.

SHE TAUGHT US THIS COOL BEATLE SONG THAT SOME OF YOU WILL KNOW.

WE'RE GOING TO HAVE TWO SOLOISTS FOR THIS.

ELIZABETH AND LEVA, YOU CAN COME UP HERE AND WAIT BY THE MICROPHONE.

HERE WE GO WITH OCTOPUS'S GARDEN.

[00:06:30]

THANK YOU MUCH.

AND WE'RE GOING TO DO ONE MORE FOR US, FOR YOU ALL TONIGHT.

THIS IS A PIECE BY RAFI AND IT WAS PART OF OUR CONCERT LAST TIME THAT WAS ALL THEMED AROUND FOOD.

THIS IS AN INCREDIBLE FOOD THAT APPARENTLY YOU CAN COMMUNICATE USING IT AS WELL, RIGHT?

>> YEAH.

[00:11:27]

>> THANK YOU.

>> GOOD LUCK GETTING BANANA PHONE OUT OF YOUR HEAD, EVERYONE.

THANK YOU SO MUCH.

PHONE WITH APPEAL, YES.

WHAT A GREAT WAY TO CELEBRATE MUSIC IN OUR SCHOOLS MONTH.

THANK YOU TO ALL OF THE DOROTHY FOX FAMILIES WHO CAME OUT HERE FOR THIS, TO MR. HUNLEY, EVERYBODY.

HAPPY MUSIC IN OUR SCHOOLS MONTH.

AND NOW WE HAVE A FEW MORE SEATS IN THE AUDIENCE.

IF ANYBODY ELSE WANTS TO COME IN, COME ON IN.

THERE'S SEATS IN THE FRONT ROW, OF COURSE, YES.

WE'RE REALLY NICE PEOPLE.

LET'S MOVE ON TO OUR MILL TOWN PRIDE AWARDS HERE.

[2. MILL TOWN PRIDE AWARD(S)]

WE HAVE A COUPLE OF MILL TOWN PRIDE AWARDS TO GIVE AWAY.

FIRST, I'M GOING TO INVITE MR. SCOTT BRISTOL FROM LIBERTY MIDDLE SCHOOL TO COME ON UP.

YOU CAN GO TO THE PODIUM. I GUESS WE ALL KNOW WHY WE'RE HERE, SO MR. VOLKE, YOU CAN COME ON UP TOO.

WE'LL SPOIL THE SURPRISE HERE.

>> GOES WITH MR. VOLKE'S AWARD, BUT I WAS GOING TO SIMPLIFY IT A LITTLE BIT.

WE'RE SO LUCKY TO HAVE DAVID ON OUR STAFF FOR WHAT HE DOES FOR OUR KIDS.

THERE'S A LOT OF OFFICIAL STUFF HERE, BUT WHAT HE DOES CONTINUOUSLY, TIRELESSLY, THE SPACE HE CREATES AND HELPS THE STUDENTS CREATE IS AMAZING AND FUN TO SEE AND TO SEE ALL THE THINGS THEY DO.

THERE YOU GO. HERE'S THE PRESS RELEASE.

I WILL SPARE A LOT OF THE LETTERS IN IT. I'M GOING TO TRY AND DO THAT.

DAVID VOLKE AT LIBERTY MIDDLE SCHOOL IN CAMAS, WASHINGTON HAS BEEN NAMED THE REGIONAL MIDDLE-LEVEL ACTIVITY ADVISOR OF THE YEAR FOR THE SOUTHWEST REGION.

THE AWARD IS SPONSORED BY THE ASSOCIATION OF WASHINGTON STUDENT LEADERS, A DIVISION OF THE WASHINGTON SCHOOL PRINCIPALS EDUCATION FOUNDATION, WHICH IS SPONSORED BY THE ASSOCIATION OF WASHINGTON SCHOOL PRINCIPALS.

DAVID'S SUCCESS SPEAKS NOT ONLY TO HIS COMMITMENT AND TALENT, BUT ALSO, TO THE SUPPORT FROM HIS PEERS AT THE STATE LEVEL.

AWSL DIRECTOR, JAMES LEHMAN STATES DAVID IS THE TYPE OF EDUCATOR AND ADVISOR WHO BRILLIANTLY LEADS HEART FIRST, HE'S A CHAMPION FOR EVERY STUDENT WORKING TIRELESSLY TO CREATE BELONGING AND CONNECTION FOR STUDENTS AND ADULTS.

HIS WORK IN SCHOOL COMMUNITY, OUR MIDDLE-LEVEL PROGRAMS, AND THE WASHINGTON ACTIVITY COORDINATION ASSOCIATION ILLUSTRATES HIS UNWAVERING PASSION AND COMMITMENT TO THIS WORK.

HE IS AN EXTRAORDINARY LEADER, EDUCATOR, AND PERSON. IT KEEPS GOING.

DAVID STATES, MY GOAL EACH YEAR IS TO HELP STUDENTS SEE THE POTENTIAL WITHIN THEMSELVES, AND I TRULY BELIEVE THAT, SORRY, I PUT IN MINE A LITTLE BIT, TO BE A LEADER IN THEIR OWN WAY.

LEADERSHIP DOES NOT LOOK THE SAME IN ALL SITUATIONS.

THE STUDENTS NEED TO LEARN THAT THE LOUDEST AND MOST DECISIVE PERSON IS NOT ALWAYS THE BEST LEADER IN A GIVEN SCENARIO.

WE DISCUSS HOW SERVANT LEADERSHIP IS NOT

[00:15:01]

THE OUTDATED LEADERSHIP PRINCIPLE OF DO IT OR ELSE, BUT IS MORE HOW CAN I MEET YOUR LEGITIMATE NEEDS? WE SEEK TO CREATE SCHOOL COMMUNITY AS ONE THAT STUDENTS WANT TO BE PART OF BY REACHING THE NEEDS OF A VARIETY OF GROUPS WHEN WE PLAN EVENTS AND ACTIVITIES.

CONGRATULATIONS TO LIBERTY MIDDLE SCHOOL, THAT'S US, AS THE HOME OF THE SOUTHWEST REGIONS MIDDLE-LEVEL ADVISOR OF THE YEAR, DAVID VOLKE.

>> I THINK LAST TIME SOMETHING LIKE THIS HAPPENED I ALSO DID NOT PREPARE A SPEECH, SO YOU THINK I WOULD HAVE LEARNED FROM MY EXPERIENCE.

ONE OF THE THINGS THAT I TRULY AND HONESTLY BELIEVE IN IS THAT NOTHING THAT I EVER ACHIEVED WOULD BE ACHIEVABLE WITHOUT MY STUDENTS.

SO I INVITED STUDENTS TO JOIN ME HERE.

I ACTUALLY HAVE SOME PAST STUDENTS WHO DIDN'T KNOW THEY WERE HERE FOR THIS, BUT THEY'RE ACTUALLY HERE.

I HAVE MY FORMER VICE PRESIDENT IS HERE WHO'S NOW THE PRESIDENT OF CAMAS HIGH SCHOOL FOR THEIR ASP PROGRAM.

WHAT A COOL EXPERIENCE THAT I GET TO SHARE.

AT THIS TIME, I WOULD LOVE IT IF MY STUDENTS COULD COME UP AND JOIN ME AND SHARE THIS AWARD WITH ME, PLEASE BECAUSE YOU ARE THE REASON I DO THIS.

>> ARE WE SUPPOSED TO COME UP HERE TOO?

>> COME ON UP HERE, YEAH.

>> IS THIS A COINCIDENCE?

>> YEAH, LOOK AT THAT.

>> HOW ABOUT ONE MORE HAND FOR MR. VOLKE.

MOVING ALONG, OUR SECOND MILL TOWN PRIDE AWARD TONIGHT IS BEING BESTOWED UPON AN ENTIRE GROUP HERE.

WE ARE AMONG CHAMPIONS IN HERE, THE CAMAS HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS BASKETBALL STATE CHAMPIONS.

GOING TO INVITE THEM UP ALONG WITH STEPHEN BARNOWSKY [PHONETIC] AND HEAD COACH, SCOTT THOMPSON, TO SAY A COUPLE OF THINGS.

>> WELL, OUR GIRLS WERE INSPIRED BY THE DOROTHY FOX CREW, THE UKULELE CREW, AND THEY'VE ASKED TO START WITH A SONG, SO I'M GOING TO LET THEM TAKE IT FROM HERE.

NO. ONE OF THE GIRLS CAME UP TO ME A FEW DAYS AGO AND SHOWED ME A PICTURE, AND IT WAS A SCREENSHOT OF A GAME VERSUS UNION, OBVIOUSLY OUR RIVAL FROM THREE YEARS AGO.

IT WAS INTERESTING TO SEE.

SHE SAID, HEY, LOOK AT THE CROWD IN THIS GAME.

I WAS PANNING THROUGH THE CROWD IN THE PICTURE, THERE'S SIX STUDENTS AT THE GAME, AND I THINK MOSTLY JUST PARENTS, MAYBE SOME FAMILY.

IT WAS A VERY SMALL CROWD.

FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO HAVE BEEN TO GAMES RECENTLY, WE FAST FORWARD TO THIS YEAR ESPECIALLY, EVERY GAME WE PLAYED WAS ABSOLUTELY PACKED.

OUR UNION GAME THIS YEAR WAS ONE OF THE MOST SPECIAL MOMENTS I'VE EVER HAD AS A COACH.

SO MANY PEOPLE SHOWED UP TO THAT GAME THAT THERE WAS NO SEATS LEFT.

THEY STARTED PILING IN THAT GAME, AND THEY ENDED UP ON THE CATWALK ABOVE THE GYM IN STANDING ROOM ONLY.

THE EXPERIENCES THAT WE'VE HAD THIS YEAR WE'RE VERY UNIQUE.

I THINK REALLY JUST YOU HAVE TO CHECK A LOT OF BOXES TO MAKE THAT HAPPEN.

I WANT TO START WITH SOME THANK YOUS.

OUR COMMUNITY SUPPORTED US SO WELL THIS YEAR.

IT WAS REALLY FUN TO BE A PART OF GETTING

[00:20:02]

THOSE BIG CROWDS AND ALL THE COMMUNITY SUPPORT THAT WE HAD, OUR SCHOOL DISTRICT, OUR SCHOOL BOARD.

THANK YOU TO EVERYBODY WHO SUPPORTED US ALONG THE WAY.

AT THE TOP, STEPHEN BARNOWSKY, OUR ATHLETIC, JUST A PHENOMENAL ATHLETIC DIRECTOR.

WE THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR GIVING US ALL THE EXPERIENCES THAT WE HAD THIS YEAR.

PRINCIPAL KELLY ROCK AND OUR SUPERINTENDENT, DR. ANZALONE.

I DON'T KNOW HOW YOU GUYS PULLED OFF THE ROUTER BUSES OF STUDENTS.

WE TRAVELED A TON THIS YEAR.

WE DID SO MUCH FUN STUFF.

WE HAD SO MANY GREAT EXPERIENCES.

WE HAVE SO MANY GREAT MEMORIES FROM THE SEASON, AND WE JUST THANK YOU ALL FOR BEING SUCH A MASSIVE PART OF THAT AND SUPPORTING US.

THIS GROUP OF GIRLS RIGHT HERE, IT'S A REALLY SPECIAL SITUATION.

WE HAVE SOME THAT ARE MISSING TODAY.

WE HAVE SOME MULTI SPORT GIRLS THAT ARE PLAYING SPRING SPORTS RIGHT NOW.

WE HAVE ONE ON A COLLEGE TRIP.

THEY ALL WANTED TO BE HERE, BUT THIS IS ALL WE COULD COME UP WITH TODAY JUST BECAUSE THEY'RE A SPORTY GROUP AND THEY'VE GOT OTHER THINGS GOING ON RIGHT NOW THAT THEY COULDN'T MISS.

THE UNIQUE THING ABOUT THIS GROUP IS EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM WENT TO SKY RIDGE AND LIBERTY MIDDLE SCHOOL FOR THREE YEARS.

THEY REALLY ARE HOME GROWN.

THE CONNECTIONS IN THIS GROUP STARTED IN THE YOUNG AGES OF ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, EVEN ANY SPORT TOO, SOFTBALL, VOLLEYBALL, SOCCER.

THEY GREW UP TOGETHER IN THE SPORTS ARENA.

I REMEMBER, MAYBE IT'S AN URBAN LEGEND, I'M NOT SURE, BUT THERE'S A STORY FLOATING AROUND THAT ADDISON HARRIS'S FIRST CAREER BASKET WAS AT CAMAS COMMUNITY ED IN THE SECOND GRADE.

IT WAS FOLLOWED WITH MAYBE A FANTASTIC CARTWHEEL.

HAPPY TO REPORT THE CART WHEEL STOPPED, BUT THE BUCKETS DID NOT.

I THINK IT WAS JUST A REALLY COOL, REALLY SPECIAL EXPERIENCE BEING ON A TEAM THAT CONNECTED AT SUCH AN EARLY AGE AND GREW UP TOGETHER.

THIS WAS MORE THAN JUST A TEAM, IT WAS A FAMILY.

THOSE BONDS THAT THEY MADE AND THE LOVE THEY HAD FOR EACH OTHER, THEY DREW ON THAT.

I WOULD SAY MORE THAN ANYTHING, ADVERSITY AND HOW WE RESPONDED TO ADVERSITY WAS OUR DEFINING CHARACTERISTIC.

WHEN WE PLAY GAMES, BASKETBALL IS AN IMPERFECT GAME.

YOU'RE GOING TO MAKE MISTAKES, YOU'RE GOING TO MISS SHOTS.

IN THOSE MOMENTS WHEN WE MISSED SHOTS, IN THOSE MOMENTS WHEN WE MADE MISTAKES, THIS TEAM JUST KEPT BECOMING CLOSER.

THEY KEPT SUPPORTING EACH OTHER AND THEY KEPT CARING ABOUT EACH OTHER, AND BECAUSE OF THAT, WHEN THINGS GOT HARD, WE GOT BETTER.

LOOK NO FURTHER THAN THE STATE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME.

A QUICK RUNDOWN OF THAT GAME IS GONZAGA PREP IN THE STATE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME STARTED SIX TO NOTHING ON US, AND WHAT DID THEY END UP DOING? WE WERE GETTING READY TO CALL A TIME OUT.

SOME OF THE COACHES WERE BEHIND ME GOING TIMEOUT, COACH, TIMEOUT.

WE'RE LIKE MAYBE ONE MORE BASKET.

WELL, IF I WAITED ONE MORE BASKET, I WOULD HAVE HAD TO WAIT SIX FULL MINUTES FOR THAT TIME OUT BECAUSE NOT ONLY DID WE STOP THEM FROM SCORING, WE SCORED THE NEXT 20 POINTS.

THAT'S A PRETTY RARE THING IN BASKETBALL TO GO ON A 20-0 RUN.

THEY DID IT IN THE STATE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME IN THE FIRST QUARTER.

WHEN TIMES WERE TOUGH, WHEN TIMES WERE AT THEIR VERY HARDEST, THESE GIRLS WERE AT THEIR VERY BEST.

I REALLY DON'T THINK WE NEEDED FIRST TO CALL THIS SEASON A WIN FOR THIS SEASON TO BE SUCCESSFUL.

WHAT MADE THIS SEASON A WIN WAS JUST BEING ABLE TO BE TOGETHER SIX DAYS A WEEK FOR THREE-AND-A-HALF MONTHS.

THAT'S HOW SPECIAL THIS GROUP WAS.

FOR ME PERSONALLY, THE WIN WAS BEING ABLE TO COACH THEM.

THAT BEING SAID, WE DID WIN, VERY BIG, VERY MAJOR.

IN THE STATE TOURNAMENT, THERE WAS FOUR GAMES.

OUR AVERAGE MARGIN OF VICTORY WAS 22.5 POINTS.

WE WON EVERY GAME BY OVER DOUBLE DIGITS.

IF YOU KNOW OUR STORY, YOU KNOW THAT WE LOST IN THE STATE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME LAST YEAR, COMPLETELY GOT OUR HEARTS RIPPED OUT.

AGAIN, WHEN TIMES GOT TOUGH, WE GOT BETTER, AND WE CAME BACK WITH A VENGEANCE AND MADE SURE THAT WE HANDLED OUR BUSINESS THIS YEAR.

IT'S ABSOLUTELY MY PLEASURE TO GIVE YOU YOUR 2024 STATE CHAMPIONS, YOUR GIRLS.

LET'S GIVE THEM A ROUND OF APPLAUSE.

[00:26:22]

>> THERE'S NOTHING ELSE TO BE SAID. HE SAID AT ALL, IT'S GREAT.

CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR GIRLS AND TO CAMAS HIGH SCHOOL.

LET'S MOVE ON TO OUR STUDENT COMMITTEE REPORTS.

[3. STUDENT/COMMITTEE REPORTS]

WE HAVE OUR FIRST STUDENT REPORT FROM REPRESENTATIVES FROM LIBERTY MIDDLE SCHOOL.

IF YOU WANT TO COME UP, LET'S TAKE MARS BROWN AND ASH BRAZIER.

RIGHT UP HERE TO THIS MICROPHONE IS FINE.

>> GOOD EVENING.

THANK YOU FOR GIVING US THE TIME TO PRESENT IN FRONT OF YOU TONIGHT.

>> THE THINGS WE HAVE DONE AND ARE WORKING ON ARE AS FOLLOWS.

>> LIBERTY'S WINTER SOCIAL WAS ON FEBRUARY 9 AND HAD AROUND 300 STUDENTS SHOW UP TO THE EVENT.

OUR CONCESSION STAND MADE $800 IN TOTAL AT THE EVENT.

DURING LUNCH ON FEBRUARY 12 THROUGH 14TH, WE MADE ROUGHLY $700 IN THREE DAYS SELLING SCHOOL APPROPRIATE SNACKS AND STICKERS.

THAT MONEY WILL BE USED TO HELP FUND OUR END OF YEAR PAW PARTY.

>> OUR KNOWLEDGEABLE TEAM HAD A REALLY SUCCESSFUL SEASON SWEEPING EVERY SINGLE MATCH FOR THE FIRST TIME IN DISTRICT HISTORY.

IN THE DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIPS A MONTH AGO, OUR VARSITY TEAM TOOK FIRST PLACE FOR THE SECOND YEAR IN A ROW, BRINGING HOME THE TROPHY, AND OUR JV TEAMS TOOK THIRD IN A REALLY CLOSE MATCH.

>> FROM FLYING RUBBER BAND PLAYS FOR SEVERAL MINUTES, TO SHOOTING PING PONG BALLS INTO A BUCKET OR STUDYING THE HUMAN BODY SYSTEMS, LIBERTY SCIENCE OLYMPIA TEAMS DEEMED GREAT OVER THE PAST FEW TOURNAMENTS, BRINGING HOME 100 PLUS MEDALS FROM SEVERAL TOURNAMENTS.

THERE'S NO PLACE THE TEAMS WON'T GO TO COMPETE GOING UP TO SEATTLE AND DOWN TO SACRAMENTO.

AT OUR REGIONALS, OUR TEAMS TOOK SECOND PLACE AND NOW WE HAVE TWO TEAMS AND 30 KIDS WHO ARE QUALIFIED TO COMPETE AT CENTRAL WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY FOR STATE. GO LIONS.

>> THE SEVENTH GRADE B BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM HAD AN UP AND DOWN SEASON, FINISHING 3-7 OVERALL.

THE SEVENTH GRADE A BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM HAD AN UNDEFEATED SEASON, THIS YEAR GOING 10-0.

THE EIGHTH B BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM ENDED THEIR SEASON 8-2, AND THE EIGHTH GRADE A BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM ENDED THEIR SEASON WITH THE WINNING RECORD OF 7-3, WHICH WAS A BIG DEAL AS THAT SAME TEAM HAD GONE 0-10 THE PREVIOUS YEAR.

>> THE SIXTH GRADE SOCCER TEAM ENDED THEIR SEASON WITH SIX WINS AND ONE LOSS.

TEAM BLACK FOR THE GIRLS SOCCER TEAM WAS MADE UP OF PLAYERS FROM ALL GRADES.

BUT WITH THEIR DIFFERENCES, THEY GREW TOGETHER AS A TEAM AND LEARNED TO WORK TOGETHER.

COACH WALTZ TALKED ABOUT THE EIGHTH GRADE GIRLS SOCCER TEAM SEASON, SAYING THAT HE FELT THE TEAM WAS WINNING AS A WHOLE AND NOT JUST ONE INDIVIDUAL.

NO ONE PERSON HAD TO CARRY THE TEAM AS THE SCORES ASSISTANT SAVES WERE ALL SPREAD OUT BY THE TEAM.

THE SEVENTH GRADE GIRLS SOCCER TEAM WON FIVE TEAMS AND LOST ONE GAME, EARNING HIS SECOND PLACE FINISH THIS SEASON.

>> THIS SPRING MUSICAL WILL BE CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG.

THERE WILL BE THREE SHOWS.

THERE'S THE OPENING SHOW ON APRIL 26, AT SEVEN O'CLOCK AND TWO MORE SHOWS ON APRIL 27, AT THREE O'CLOCK AND SEVEN O'CLOCK.

SO FAR, REHEARSALS ARE GOING VERY WELL.

SAVE THE DATE TO COME SEE THE FLYING CAR AT GARBER THEATER AND SUPPORT THE CAST.

LIBERTY HOPES THAT ALL THE BOARD MEMBERS AND DISTRICT STAFF ARE ABLE TO COME AND SEE THIS PRODUCTION.

>> THE WRESTLING TEAM FINISHED THE REGULAR SEASON LAST WEEK WITH A RECORD OF 6-1, MAKING AT FIVE SEASONS IN A ROW WITH NO MORE THAN ONE LOSS.

THEY ALSO PLACED FOUR STATE DISTRICTS THIS PAST WEEK, NARROWLY MISSING SECOND PLACE TEAM BY 10 POINTS.

[00:30:01]

SHOUT OUT OUT TO HARMONY KEEVES WHO AVENGED A LOSS EARLIER IN THE SEASON AND WENT A PERFECT 3-0 SATURDAY TO BE THE FIRST GIRL FROM LIBERTY TO WIN AN ALL GIRLS TIE.

>> GIRLS BASKETBALL EIGHTH GRADE A BASKETBALL SEASON HAS BEEN GOING GREAT SO FAR.

GIRLS ARE WORKING HARD AND HAVING FUN.

THEIR RECORD IS 4-2.

>> OUR SEVENTH AND EIGHTH GRADE CHOIRS WERE RECENTLY SELECTED BY RE PRIZE CHOIR, AN ADDITION CHOIR DIRECTED BY JANET RITA AND APRIL DUVICK FOR COLLABORATION.

COLLEGE LEVEL DIRECTORS CAME TO WORK WITH EACH CHOIR AND THEN PRESENTED A CONCERT TOGETHER ON MARCH 20 IN THE GARVER THEATER.

THESE DIRECTORS PRAISED OUR CHOIRS QUALITY AND EXPRESSIVENESS.

TUESDAY, MARCH 26, THEY WILL BOTH REPRESENT CAMAS AT THE LCRMEA CHOIR FESTIVAL.

LATER THIS SPRING, THE SEVENTH GRADE CHOIR WILL BE AUDITIONING TO PERFORM AT AMERICA'S CHORAL DIRECTORS ASSOCIATION CONFERENCE.

>> LIBERTY'S JAZZ BAND PLAYED AT THE CLARK COLLEGE JAZZ FEST IN JANUARY.

ALL LIBERTY BANDS PLAYED AT THE GARVER THEATER ON MARCH 5TH, AND SOME BANDS PLAYED AT A BAND FESTIVAL MARCH 13TH AND 14TH.

>> BRANDY REED IS STARTING AN INTRAMURAL CHEER LEADING SQUAD AT LIBERTY FOR ALL THOSE INTERESTED IN GETTING CHEER, PRACTICES BEGIN SOON.

>> GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY, EIGHTH GRADE FOOTBALL, AND LIBERTY ROBOTICS CLUB WILL BEGIN AFTER SPRING BREAK.

>> ALSO, THIS UPCOMING WEDNESDAY, THE 27TH, IS A FAMILY MOVIE NIGHT.

THERE WILL BE LOTS OF FUN ACTIVITIES AND CONCESSIONS.

EVERYONE IS WELCOME AND IT WILL BE HELD IN LIBERTY COMMONS.

>> WE ALSO HAVE ANYTHING BUT A BACKPACK DAY ON 29TH OF MARCH.

IT'S A FUN SPIRIT DAY WHERE ANYBODY AT LIBERTY CAN BRING ANYTHING BUT A BACKPACK.

THIS IS A FESTIVE WAY TO PARTICIPATE ON SPIRIT DAYS AND BRING PRIDE TO OUR SCHOOL.

>> FINALLY, LIBERTY WILL BE RUNNING A FUND RAISER IN APRIL WITH THE WORLD'S FINEST CHOCOLATE TO HELP SUPPORT THE SCHOOL'S ASP PROGRAM AND ALL THE CLUBS, SPORTS, AND STUDENTS THAT HELP BENEFITS FROM THOSE FUNDS. THANK YOU.

>> THANK YOU.

[APPLAUSE] WE EXPECT A REPORT BACK ON THE BEST OTHER THAN A BACKPACK.

THOSE ARE ALWAYS FUN TO SEE.

APRIL 26TH AND 27TH FOR CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG.

GOOD. GREAT. YEAH, 7:00 PM AND 3:00 PM. THANK YOU.

I KNEW THAT. OUR NEXT STUDENT REPORT, WE HAVE REPRESENTATIVES FROM OUR STUDENT ADVISORY COMMITTEE.

SIMONE AND WAVERLY, COME ON UP.

THEY'VE BEEN BUSY.

>> WE HELD OUR SECOND ANNUAL STUDENT LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE HOSTED BY SEC ON FRIDAY.

THESE ARE SOME OF THE HIGHLIGHTS; 55 STUDENTS WERE ATTENDING.

THERE WERE COMMUNITY BUILDING GAMES, SMALL GROUPS DISCUSSIONS ABOUT HOW WE CAN EMBRACE DIVERSITY IN OUR SCHOOLS AND WHAT IS GETTING IN THE WAY OF THAT.

ALSO, HOW CAN WE FIX THAT.

WHOLE GROUP INCLUSIVITY, BRAINSTORMS, AND SHARING WITH OTHERS.

BIKINO, MCKENZIE, AND JEFF AND MICA SNELL, OPENING AND CLOSING ACTIVITIES TO BUILD COMMUNITY ACROSS ALL MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOLS AN INITIAL FEEDBACK WAS POSITIVE AND HELPFUL.

>> NEXT UP FOR SAC, WE ARE HAVING SOME STUDENT DISCUSSIONS ABOUT ISSUES OR PRACTICES IN OUR SCHOOLS AND WHAT WE CAN DO TO FIX THEM.

WE WOULD ALSO LOVE SOME DISTRICT AND BOARD INPUT ON THINGS THAT YOU THINK WE SHOULD BE FOCUSING ON.

I'M SURE YOU CAN EMAIL THEM TO MS. SIDLE AS IF SHE NEEDED MORE EMAILS.

WE ARE ALSO LOOKING AT OUR UPCOMING APPLICATION PROCESS FOR NEXT YEAR FOR SAC AND BRAINSTORMING OUR FOCUS AREA FOR SAC FOR NEXT YEAR.

DO YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS?

>> I JUST WANTED TO COMMENT ON YOUR SHIRT.

I HADN'T SEEN THOSE YET.

DID YOU GUYS COME UP WITH THAT YOURSELF? THE DESIGN? [LAUGHTER]

>> QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS FOR HIM?

>> JUST I THINK YOU'RE GOING TO TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THE CONFERENCE.

YOU GUYS, I LOVE THAT TRADITION OF THE CONFERENCE.

KEEP IT GOING. KEEP IT GOING.

WE'LL FIGURE OUT HOW WE'RE GOING TO TALK ABOUT WHAT STUDENT ADVISORY COMMITTEE LOOKS LIKE GOING WITH BOARD INPUT ON THAT.

WE'RE EXCITED TO HEAR YOUR IDEAS AS WELL.

[00:35:01]

THANK YOU.

>> THANK YOU.

>> THAT IS OUR FINAL STUDENT REPORT.

WE'LL MOVE ON TO BOARD COMMUNICATION AND JUST CHECK IN WITH ALL

[4. BOARD COMMUNICATION]

OF YOU ABOUT ANYTHING YOU'D LIKE TO SHARE OR ANYTHING THAT YOU'VE BEEN UP TO THE LAST MONTH.

>> LET ME KICK IT OFF BY TALKING ABOUT OUR ATTENDANCE AT THE WAZDA REGIONAL MEETING THAT WE HAD JUST LAST WEEK.

WHERE WE GET TOGETHER WITH DISTRICT AREA SIX OTHER WASHINGTON STATE SCHOOL BOARD MEMBERS IN OUR DISTRICT, WHICH IS A HUGE DISTRICT THAT REACHES OUT TO THE COAST AND DOWN THE GORGE.

WE ALL GET TOGETHER AND REALLY MUCH APPRECIATED THAT TIME TO LEARN FROM ONE ANOTHER AND GO THROUGH SOME COMMUNICATION EXERCISES TOGETHER.

IT WAS HOSTED BY BATTLEGROUND HIGH SCHOOL AND DINNER WAS SERVED BY BATTLEGROUND STUDENTS, THEIR FOOD SERVICES CULINARY PROGRAM.

IT WAS SO YUMMY, I WOULD MAKE RESERVATIONS THERE ANYTIME.

APPRECIATED TALKING THROUGH SCENARIOS WITH YOU ALL.

PRIOR TO THAT, BOMINI AND I ATTENDED THE LEGISLATIVE MEETING WITH THE LEGISLATIVE ADVOCACY COMMITTEE.

I THINK I'VE SHARED THIS IN TWO BY ONE, BUT NOT WITH ALL OF YOU.

I KNOW YOU'VE ALL BEEN TO THOSE MEETINGS.

BUT THERE IS SUCH A PASSION AND SUCH AN ENERGY FROM OUR COMMUNITY IN THAT COMMITTEE THAT THEY WANT TO KNOW HOW TO HELP, HOW TO SERVE, HOW TO REPRESENT, HOW TO SPEAK THE LANGUAGE.

THEY WANT TO DIVE INTO THE FUNDING MODEL AND UNDERSTANDING WHERE THE HOLES ARE FOR OUR DISTRICT.

I JUST GREATLY APPRECIATE THAT GROUP AND THEIR ENTHUSIASM AND I HOPE THAT WE CAN GIVE THEM AND SERVE THEM ALL THE INFORMATION THAT THEY CAN GO ON TO BE ADVOCATES AND CONTINUE TO BE A VOICE FOR OUR COMMUNITY.

I GREATLY APPRECIATE THEM, AND SO I THINK THE NEXT ONE'S COMING UP IN APRIL.

I THINK THE SECOND WEEK OF APRIL AFTER SPRING BREAK. APRIL 15TH.

THERE WE GO. I THINK THAT WAS IT FOR THE LAST MONTH.

>> JUST ECHO A LITTLE BIT ON THE LEGISLATIVE ADEQUACY COMMITTEE.

THE PASSION, THE WANT TO BE A PART OF IT.

I FEEL LIKE WE'RE IN GREAT HANDS WITH THOSE MEMBERS.

SO MUCH WORK THAT GOES INTO THAT, AND I'M HAPPY THAT THEY'RE WILLING AND EXCITED TO DO THE WORK.

WE ALSO DID A VISIT TO CAMAS HIGH SCHOOL AND WOODBURN AND LACAMAS AND LEARNED A LOT.

SO MUCH WORK THAT'S GOING ON AT WOODBURN WITH READING PHONICS.

IT'S SO IMPRESSIVE.

I JUST WANT TO KNOW HOW THOSE TEACHERS GET ALL THE STUDENTS TO BE ABLE TO CLAP AND STATE THE SOUNDS, AND IT'S FLAWLESS.

I WOULD LOVE TO SEE HOW IT'S DONE SOME DAY CAMAS HIGH SCHOOL, STANDING IN THE MIDDLE OF THAT CROWD FREAKED ME OUT A LITTLE BIT AS THEY ALL EXITED.

BUT GREAT WORK THAT'S BEING DONE AT ALL THOSE SCHOOLS AND I WAS GLAD THAT I COULD MAKE THIS ONE.

>> I DON'T KNOW WHY I'M SITTING DOWN SO LOW HERE IN MY CHAIR, BUT I GOT MICROPHONE DOWN.

I WAS ONLY ABLE TO MAKE THE CAMAS HIGH SCHOOL VISIT THIS WEEK, WHICH WAS AWESOME.

IT'S ALWAYS GREAT BEING IN THE HIGH SCHOOL.

SO MANY MORE ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS.

IT SEEMS LIKE WE SPEND MORE TIME IN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL.

IT'S ALWAYS FUN TO GO BACK AT THE HIGH SCHOOL LEVEL.

IT WAS FUN WATCHING DR. ANZALONE TRY TO WORK OUT SOME MATH PROBLEMS WITH SOME OF THE STUDENTS FACTORING POLYNOMIALS OR WHATEVER, AND HE'S LIKE THE SIX, JUST TUCK ON AT THE END.

THAT'S WHAT I DO. JUST TACK IT ON AT THE END.

YEAH, WE'RE LIKE, PLEASE DON'T USE THAT STRATEGY ON THE SAT EXAM.

IT WAS PRETTY FUN.

TRACY AND I HAVE BEEN INVOLVED IN THE CAPITOL FACILITIES PLANNING COMMITTEE THAT'S REALLY RAMPING UP LOOKING AT DIFFERENT FACILITIES.

WE HAD A STEERING COMMITTEE MEETING LAST WEEK AND A REGULAR MEETING LAST WEEK.

TRACY AND I SPENT FOUR EVENINGS LAST WEEK TOGETHER IN DIFFERENT COMMITTEES.

IT WAS GREAT. THE DISTRICT SIX IS ALWAYS NICE.

WE GOT TO SIT WITH SOME OF OUR NEIGHBORING

[00:40:02]

DISTRICTS AND DISCUSS COMMON THEMES AND WHAT'S GOING ON AND COMMISERATE AND HAVE SYMPATHY FOR WHAT THEY'RE GOING THROUGH WITH BUDGET CUTS AND STUFF THIS YEAR.

THAT WAS A GOOD EXPERIENCE.

BUT JUST SEEMS LIKE STAN EXCEPTIONALLY BUSY WITH DISTRICT WORK.

>> YEAH, LIKE CONNIE SAID, I SAW HER FOR THE FIVE NIGHTS LAST WEEK AT MEETINGS OR WHATNOT.

I DID ATTEND ALL THREE SITE VISITS CONNIE AND I DID.

WE STARTED AT LACAMAS LAKE AND IT WAS SUCH A BEAUTIFUL DAY THAT CAMPUS IS AMAZING.

WE SPENT SOME TIME THERE AND IT WAS GREAT BECAUSE WE DID LACAMAS LAKE AND THEN WOODBURN.

YOU GOT TO SEE THE CONNECTION OF THAT THEY'RE TEACHING THE SAME THING AND WHAT THE KIDS ARE LEARNING.

WE ACTUALLY HAD STUDENTS TOURING US AROUND WHICH WAS IT'S ALWAYS FUN TO TALK TO THE KIDS AND THE THINGS THAT THEY TELL US, THAT WAS A FUN DAY FOR US.

THEN CAMAS HIGH SCHOOL WE DID AS WELL.

ALSO THE REGIONAL SIX MEETING. WE DID THAT.

YES, CAPITAL FACILITIES.

WE HAVE A LOT GOING ON WITH A LOT OF PROJECTS AND THINGS HAPPENING AROUND THE DISTRICT.

ALSO, CONNIE, I JUST FINISHED UP CITY SCHOOLS BEFORE THIS TOO, WHICH IS OUR GREAT PARTNERSHIP WE HAVE WITH CITY LEADERSHIP, AND WE MEET BEFORE THIS MEETING AND JUST LEARN ABOUT WHAT'S GOING ON AT THE CITY.

WE TALK ABOUT WHAT'S GOING ON IN THE DISTRICT BECAUSE WE HAVE A LOT OF OVERLAPPING THINGS AND OBVIOUSLY OVERLAPPING COMMUNITY MEMBERS, THAT'S ALWAYS A GREAT COMMITTEE TO BE ON AS WELL.

JUST LOTS BUSY TIME.

>> YEAH, I'LL JUST ECHO ABOUT THE SITE VISITS.

WHAT I LOVE ABOUT GOING, ESPECIALLY WHEN WE GO TO TWO ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS AND SEE THE EXACT SAME THING, JUST THAT CONSISTENCY, THE FIDELITY TO THE PROCESS OF THE LETTERS TRAINING AND ALL OF THAT, AND WHAT THEY'RE DOING AS SECOND GRADERS AND FIRST GRADERS, I WAS HAVING A HARD TIME KEEPING UP, I'M NOT GOING TO LIE.

IT WAS VERY IMPRESSIVE AND KUDOS TO OUR ELEMENTARY PRINCIPALS AND TO OUR ELEMENTARY LEADERSHIP FOR THAT CONSISTENCY ACROSS.

WE HEARD A LOT ABOUT BELONGING, LOTS OF STUDENT VOICE.

I LOVE HAVING THE STUDENT LEADERS THAT BRING US AROUND.

YEAH, OF COURSE, YOU WERE SAYING THE VIEW FROM LACAMAS LAKE ELEMENTARY ON A NICE DAY FOR LUNCH AND THEY WERE ALL LIKE OUTSIDE EATING FOR THE FIRST TIME.

YEAH, WE HAVE SOME PRETTY AWESOME FACILITIES.

I ALSO JUST WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT I HIGHLIGHT AS WELL APRIL 20TH IS THE CAMAS MUSIC BOOSTER GALA EVENT.

IT'S THEIR FIRST ATTEMPT AT A FUNDRAISER TO GET THAT GROUP GOING.

PLANTING THE SEED, I BELIEVE IS THE THEME THERE.IT'S ACTUALLY AT THE CAMAS COMMUNITY CENTER.

THERE ARE TICKETS, YOU HAVE TO BUY TICKETS IN ADVANCE FOR IT.

APRIL 20TH, AND IT'S ON THEIR WEBSITE, ON ALL OF THEIR SOCIAL MEDIA CAMAS MUSIC BOOSTER CLUB.

THEY'RE DOING SOME GREAT THINGS AND REALLY JUST IN THEIR FIRST YEAR, SOME FANTASTIC STUFF.

I JUST WANTED TO MAKE SURE I GET A PLUG FOR THAT.

ANYTHING ELSE FOR BOARD COMMUNICATION YOU NEED TO COVER? OKAY, GREAT.

WELL, THAT'LL MOVE US ALONG TO ITEM 5, PUBLIC COMMENTS.

WE DID NOT HAVE ANYONE SIGN UP TO GIVE PUBLIC COMMENT TODAY AND WE HAD ONE WRITTEN PUBLIC COMMENT THAT HAS BEEN ENTERED INTO THE RECORD.

WE'LL GO AHEAD AND MOVE ON TO ITEM 6.

THERE WERE NO ITEMS ADDED TO THE AGENDA.

ITEM 7, OUR CONSENT AGENDA.

[7. CONSENT AGENDA]

I'M JUST LOOKING FOR A MOTION IN A SECOND TO APPROVE THE CONSENT AGENDA.

>> I MOVED TO APPROVE THE CONSENT AGENDA AS PRESENTED.

>> I SECOND.

>> IT WAS MOVED BY CONNIE. SECONDED BY BOMINI.

ANY DISCUSSION? ALL THOSE IN FAVOR.

>> AYE.

>> OPPOSED. MOTION CARRIES.

THAT MOVES US DOWN TO ITEM 8A.

[8. EXCELLENCE IN ACADEMIC, SOCIAL AND LIFELONG LEARNING]

WE HAVE PROPOSED REVISIONS TO THE CAMAS HIGH SCHOOL ASB CONSTITUTION.

IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS, I KNOW WE HAVE REPRESENTATIVES FROM CAMAS HIGH SCHOOL ARE HERE.

OTHERWISE, JUST A MOTION IN A SECOND TO APPROVE THOSE.

>> JUST A QUICK QUESTION. WAS THIS JUST UPDATING CERTAIN THINGS OR WAS THERE A NEED TO UPDATE IT OR WAS IT UPDATED BECAUSE, DID SOMETHING MOVE YOU TO OR WERE YOU ADDRESSING SOMETHING IN PARTICULAR?

>> THE MICROPHONE THOUGH, JUST FOR THE PEOPLE AT HOME.

>> THANK YOU.

>> THE LAST TIME IT WAS UPDATED WAS IN 2010, SO 14 YEARS AGO.

>> GOT YOU.

>> I'VE BEEN IN ASP FOR THREE YEARS, AND EVERY YEAR WE TALK ABOUT, WE NEED TO UPDATE THE CONSTITUTION.

WE JUST HAVE NEVER GOTTEN TO IT.

A MAIN PART OF IT WAS ADDING SOCIAL MEDIA.

BACK IN 2010 THERE WAS NO PART OF SOCIAL MEDIA IN THERE AND RIGHT NOW WE HAVE BIG SOCIAL MEDIA PRESENCE IN HOW WE CONDUCT THINGS IN ASP, SO A LOT OF IT WAS JUST ADDING IN SOCIAL MEDIA AND CHANGING

[00:45:01]

THE RULES, AND CHANGING THAT.

THAT'S ALL IT WAS, IF I'M BEING BE HONEST.

THANK YOU.

>> THAT'S GREAT. IT LOOKED LIKE MAYBE SOME RULES, I'M SURE HAVE BEEN ALTERED AND UPDATED, THAT KIND OF THING.

CAN YOU TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THE PROCESS AND STUDENTS WHO WERE INVOLVED, JUST THE EXEC LEVEL OR ALL THE REPRESENTATIVES AS WELL?

>> THE CONVERSATION STARTED IN OUR EXEC MEETINGS, WHICH IS LIKE FIVE ASB OFFICERS AND THEN FOUR CLASS PRESIDENTS.

THEN WE JUST STARTED TALKING THERE AND JUST TALKING ABOUT SMALL ADJUSTMENTS, AND THEN WE BROUGHT IT TO OUR LEADERSHIP CLASS, WHICH I THINK IT'S 39 KIDS ALL IN LEADERSHIP.

THEN WE WENT THROUGH PAGE BY PAGE AND TALKED ABOUT DIFFERENT CHANGES THAT WE WANTED TO MAKE.

THEN WE WENT BACK TO THE EXEC MEETING AND SPENT LIKE TWO HOURS GOING THROUGH THE ENTIRE CONSTITUTION AND MAKING THE ACTUAL EDITS.

WE APPROVED IT IN THE LEADERSHIP CLASS AND NOW WE'RE APPROVING IT HERE.

>> THANK YOU.

>> THERE IS ONE CHANGE ON THERE THAT I ACTUALLY HAD HEARD ABOUT, IT'S TALKING ABOUT HOW YOU HAVE TO BE ON CAMPUS FOR FIVE PERIODS TO BE IN A LEADERSHIP LEVEL, AND NOW THERE IS SOMETHING HERE THAT SAYS IN SPECIFIC SITUATIONS THERE CAN BE AN EXCEPTION TO THE RULE.

IN CASE YOU ATTENDED CASCADIA TECH OR SOMETHING AND YOU WEREN'T ABLE TO HOLD AN OFFICE, IT LOOKS LIKE THEY COULD MAKE AN EXCEPTION ON CERTAIN CASES, WHICH I ACTUALLY HEARD ABOUT IT.

I WAS GLAD TO SEE THAT IN THERE.

>> ANY OTHER QUESTIONS? THANK YOU FOR STEPPING INTO THE HOT SEAT THERE.

OTHERWISE, LOOK FOR A MOTION AND A SECOND.

>> I'LL MOVE TO APPROVE THE REVISIONS TO THE CAMAS HIGH SCHOOL ASSOCIATED STUDENT BODY CONSTITUTION AS SUBMITTED.

>> I'LL SECOND THAT.

>> IT WAS MOVED BY ERICA, SECONDED BY TRACY.

ANY FURTHER DISCUSSION? ALL THOSE IN FAVOR.

OPPOSED? MOTION CARRIES.

THANK YOU. NEXT WE HAVE ADOPTION OF THE MIDDLE SCHOOL ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS CURRICULUM.

DR. ANZALONE, DO YOU HAVE A LITTLE INTRODUCTION ON THIS?

>> SURE. JUST GOING BACK TO ERICA'S POINT ABOUT A PROCESS, FIRST OF ALL, THAT WAS AN AWESOME SHORT PRESENTATION AND TALKING ABOUT GETTING PEOPLE AT THE TABLE COLLABORATIVELY.

STEPHEN, THANK YOU FOR YOUR LEADERSHIP ON THAT.

BUT WITH THIS AS WELL, OUR CURRICULUM MATERIALS COMMITTEE WORKS TIRELESSLY TO MAKE SURE THAT THEY'RE STAYING UP ON THINGS, MODERNIZING OUR CURRICULUM, AND FINDING WHAT'S BEST FOR KIDS.

THERE'S SO MANY GREAT VOICES AT THE TABLE, AND IT'S NOT ALWAYS AN EASY PROCESS, THERE'S ADVERSARIAL CONVERSATIONS AND COMING TO A CONSENSUS IS NOT ALWAYS EASY.

WITH THAT SAID, I KNOW YOU MENTIONED EARLIER COREY, UNFORTUNATELY LISA COULDN'T BE HERE TONIGHT.

I KNOW SHE'S REALLY SAD THAT SHE'S MISSING THIS, BUT WE HAVE JOY GARDENER HERE WHO'S JUST INSTRUMENTAL IN THIS WORK, AND WE'RE REALLY HAPPY TO PASS THE MICROPHONE TO HER TO GO OVER THIS, AND TAKE ANY QUESTIONS YOU MIGHT HAVE. JOY.

>> THANK YOU, GABBY. THANK YOU.

I SERVE AS THE INSTRUCTIONAL EQUITY COACH FOR THE MIDDLE SCHOOL LEVEL HERE IN CAMAS, AND FOR THE PAST TWO YEARS, PART OF THAT ROLE HAS BEEN SUPPORTING THE ELA CURRICULUM SELECTION AND PILOT AND EVALUATION AS A PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT FACILITATOR AND ONGOING COACH IN THE BUILDINGS FOR MY ELA COLLEAGUES.

WE HAVE USED THE BOARD POLICY AND PROCEDURE 2020 TO GUIDE OUR PROCESS IN SELECTING AND PILOTING AND APPROVING MIDDLE SCHOOL ELA CURRICULUM FOR RECOMMENDATION TONIGHT.

THIS IS ANOTHER GUIDING DOCUMENT THAT WE HAVE REFERENCED CONSISTENTLY THROUGHOUT THE LAST TWO YEARS OF RESEARCH SUMMARY FROM KATIE NOVAK'S WORK WITH UNIVERSAL DESIGN FOR LEARNING AND CURRICULUM.

THIS RESEARCH HAS BEEN REPLICATED AND REFLECTS WHAT WE BELIEVE CURRICULUM NEEDS TO FULFILL FOR OUR LEARNERS AND FOR OUR TEACHERS.

THAT THE MATERIALS THAT TEACHERS PUT IN FRONT OF STUDENTS MATTER, AND THOSE GOOD MATERIALS MAKE TEACHING AND LEARNING EASIER IN THE WAY THAT IT BUILDS MORE HUMAN CAPACITY FOR THE LEARNING, AND BEING INVOLVED IN THAT PRODUCTIVE STRUGGLE, AND NOT THE PRODUCTIVE STRUGGLE OF CREATING EVERYTHING AND ACCESSING IT, IT'S RIGHT BUILT IN THERE.

THE PROCESS.

THE LAST TWO YEARS IN TWO SLIDES.

HERE WE GO.

WHEN THIS STARTED TWO YEARS AGO IN IDENTIFYING OUR PURPOSE AT THE MIDDLE SCHOOL LEVEL OF WHAT IS OUR PURPOSE FOR THIS ELA CURRICULUM, AND IT STARTED WITH WANTING A COUPLE OF DIFFERENT THINGS.

MORE EQUITABLE LEARNING EXPERIENCES FOR OUR KIDS ACROSS THE THREE BUILDINGS, SOMETHING THAT BRINGS US TOGETHER BEYOND

[00:50:01]

THE COMMON CORE STATE STANDARDS TO ENHANCE OUR PROFESSIONAL LEARNING COMMUNITIES AND THE WORK WE DO WITH OUR KIDS.

PART OF THE PROCESS WAS BUILDING THE TEAM OF TEACHERS AND SPECIALISTS IN ADMIN.

WE HAD REPRESENTATIVES FROM SIXTH, SEVENTH, AND EIGHTH GRADE PLCS, SPECIALISTS AT EACH GRADE LEVEL, ALONG WITH ADMIN, AS A PART OF OUR CORE TEAM THAT LED THIS PROCESS.

WE COMMITTED TO REVIEW ROUNDS OF THE CURRICULUM AND PILOTING AND EVALUATING WITH RUBRICS, THE TOP TWO, TO BALANCE THE SUBJECTIVE AND OBJECTIVE WITH WHAT WE WERE IMPLEMENTING WITH OUR KIDS.

WE COMMITTED TO MAKING A RECOMMENDATION TO THE IMC, AND WITH THE IMC'S VOTE FOR RECOMMENDATION, BRINGS US TO TONIGHT, TO YOU.

THEN WITH YOUR APPROVAL, IMPLEMENTATION NEXT YEAR WITH ONGOING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND FUNDING FOR RESOURCES.

THEN GETTING A LITTLE BIT MORE IN DEPTH WITH OUR PROCESS.

THIS STARTED LIKE TWO YEARS AGO TO THE MONTH.

WE ENDED UP REVIEWING FOUR ELA CURRICULUMS THAT WERE RATED HIGHEST THROUGH ED REPORTS AND THROUGH TEACHER RECOMMENDATIONS.

WE LOOKED AT AMPLIFY, ELA, SPRINGBOARD, COMMONLIT, AND ACTIVELY LEARN.

THE CORE TEAM, WITH INFORMATION FROM THEIR ELA COLLEAGUES, CHOSE TO FIRST PILOT AMPLIFY.

THE DECISION WAS MADE TO NOT MOVE FORWARD WITH THAT CURRICULUM AND THEN TO PILOT COMMONLIT, AND OUT OF THAT CAME THE RECOMMENDATION FOR ADOPTION.

IT HAS GONE THROUGH THE IMC REVIEW AND RECOMMENDATION TO MOVE FORWARD TO TONIGHT.

MOST RECENTLY, THE CORE TEAM DEVELOPED THE SCOPE AND SEQUENCE AGREEMENTS FOR NEXT YEAR ACROSS THE MIDDLE SCHOOLS WITH EACH GRADE LEVEL AND IDENTIFYING RESOURCES FOR IMPLEMENTATION IN TERMS OF ONGOING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND THE OTHER MATERIALS IN ADDITION TO THE CURRICULUM.

THEN TO GROUND US ALL IN WHERE WE STARTED LITERALLY TWO YEARS AGO TO THE MONTH, WE MET AND STARTED FIRST WITH WHAT ARE OUR BELIEFS AND VALUES ABOUT WHAT MIDDLE SCHOOL CURRICULUM NEEDS TO PROVIDE FOR US AS THE EDUCATORS, WITH THESE KIDS AND FOR OUR KIDS.

ALL THE CORE TEAM TEACHERS WERE GIVEN POSTS AND JUST WROTE AN IDEA ON EACH AND THEN WE ALL TOOK THEM UP TO THE WHITEBOARD AND PATTERNS EMERGED.

WHAT EMERGED WERE OUR SIX CORE BELIEFS AND VALUES ABOUT WHAT.

CURRICULUM NEEDS TO PROVIDE FOR US IN TERMS OF INCLUSION, MEANING ALL THAT ALL ARE SUPPORTED TO ACCESS GRADE LEVEL CONTENT AND THAT LEARNING IS ALONGSIDE OUR PEERS.

WITH THAT COULD BE A SUBS STAR, BUT DEFINITELY A STAR, UNIVERSAL DESIGN FOR LEARNING AND CHOICE.

THAT MEANS WE HAVE MATERIALS AND RESOURCES SO ALL LEARNERS HAVE ACCESS TO THE LEARNING, ENGAGEMENT WITH THE MATERIALS AND WITH ONE ANOTHER, AND MULTIPLE WAYS TO EXPRESS WHAT THEY'VE LEARNED.

WITH THE STANDARDS AND SHIFTS THAT EMERGE, THERE'S THAT FOCUS PROGRESSION OF STUDENT UNDERSTANDING OF GRADE LEVEL STANDARDS FROM READING THROUGH WRITING, SPEAKING AND LISTENING CONVENTIONS VOCABULARY.

DIVERSE MATERIALS EMERGED AS ANOTHER BELIEF IN VALUE IN TERMS OF THE MATERIALS WE PUT IN FRONT OF STUDENTS MATTER.

HAVING STUDENTS EXPERIENCE WINDOWS AND MIRRORS IN THE FICTION AND LITERARY NON-FICTION THAT THEY READ ALONG WITH OTHER RELATED MEDIA.

MAKING SURE THAT MATERIALS WE'RE PROVIDING ARE NOT PERPETUATING STEREOTYPES.

TEACHER AGENCY IS ANOTHER BELIEF IN VALUE, IN THAT AS MUCH AS THE MATERIALS WE PUT IN FRONT OF STUDENTS MATTER, THE CHOICES WE MAKE AS PROFESSIONALS WITH THOSE MATERIALS TO VARY THE SCAFFOLDS OR THE EXPERIENCES FOR OUR STUDENTS, SUPPORT ALL OF THEM WHERE THEY ARE.

WHEN IT COMES TO RIGOR, WE HAD QUITE A CONVERSATION BECAUSE RIGOR FOR SOME CAN HAVE A NEGATIVE CONNOTATION AND NOT BE SOMETHING EQUATED WITH INCLUSIVITY BUT MORE EXCLUSIVITY.

WE WANTED TO MAKE SURE THAT RIGOR FOR US WAS HAVING HIGH STANDARDS AND APPROPRIATE SCAFFOLDS FOR ALL LEARNERS AND OUR BELIEF THAT ALL LEARNERS HAVE THE CAPABILITIES TO GROW.

THIS SERVED AS VERY GROUNDING.

IT BECAME ONE OF OUR RUBRICS FOR HOW WE LOOKED AT CURRICULUM AND WHAT IT BROUGHT FOR OUR KIDS, WHICH TIED IN VERY NICELY WITH COMMONLIT'S GUIDING PRINCIPLES THAT ARE HERE.

[00:55:04]

THEIR FOUNDATIONAL BELIEFS ABOUT TEACHING AND LEARNING.

THESE SERVE AS THE BASIS FOR DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF THE CURRICULUM TO SUPPORT STUDENTS GROWTH AND SUCCESS.

WITH EACH OF THESE, THERE'S A CONNECTION TO THE BELIEFS AND VALUES THAT WE FOUND AS EDUCATORS OF WHAT WE WANTED TO BRING TO OUR LEARNERS IN CAMPUS.

WITH STUDENTS ENGAGING WITH AND LEARNING RIGOROUS GRADE-LEVEL CONTENT, THAT TIES IN WITH OUR RIGOR, OUR VALUE OF INCLUSION, UNIVERSAL DESIGN FOR LEARNING, HAVING HIGH EXPECTATIONS AND THOSE APPROPRIATE SCAFFOLDS FOR EVERYONE.

THAT TEACHERS DRIVE STUDENT OUTCOMES.

THAT TEACHER AGENCY KNOWLEDGE OF THE STANDARDS AND THOSE PROFESSIONAL CHOICES WE MAKE WITH THE MATERIALS AND THE EXPERIENCES FOR OUR KIDS.

DEEP ENGAGEMENT, FOSTERING DEEP LEARNING, BUILDING IN THOSE DIVERSE MATERIALS, THE THEMATIC QUESTIONS THAT I'LL TALK ABOUT IN A MINUTE, AND THE UNIVERSAL DESIGN FOR LEARNING THAT EQUIPS STUDENTS TO CHOOSE THE SUPPORTS THEY NEED AT THE BOTTOM LINE.

I DON'T THINK THIS WAS A MISTAKE, THAT LEARNING IS FUNDAMENTALLY SOCIAL AND HOW IMPORTANT IT WAS FOR OUR TEACHERS TO BE INCLUSIVE, AND THAT WE HAVE ALL OUR KIDS LEARNING ALONGSIDE EACH OTHER.

WE GET TO THE SECONDARY CURRICULUM.

IN SUPPORT OF THE COMMON CORE STATE STANDARDS AND THE BELIEFS AND VALUES AROUND WHAT ELA PROVIDES FOR OUR STUDENTS, THIS WAS THE CURRICULUM THAT MEANT THAT THE MOST.

THE NEXT PIECES ARE JUST A BIT OF AN OVERVIEW OF HOW COMMONLIT ORGANIZES INFORMATION TO GET A LOOK AT THAT.

THERE'S THIS LOGICAL, COHERENT, SCOPE AND SEQUENCE THAT ENSURES THAT GRADE LEVELS BUILD ON PRIOR KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS ORGANIZED INTO SIX UNITS.

AS YOU CAN SEE HERE, EACH UNIT FOCUSING ON A THEMATIC QUESTION AND DESIGNED TO BE RELEVANT TO STUDENT EXPERIENCE.

FROM THE VERY BEGINNING, STUDENTS HAVE AN ACCESS POINT WITH THE INTENT OF ENGAGEMENT AS THEY GET INTO THE LEARNING.

WITH THAT, GOING RIGHT INTO THE STUDENT EXPERIENCE WITH THIS, AT THE VERY TOP, THOSE SIX BULLETS YOU SEE, EACH UNIT FOCUSES ON A THEMATIC DRIVING QUESTION AND TALKING ABOUT ENGAGEMENT AND ACCESS FROM THE VERY FIRST QUESTION.

THAT FIRST BULLET IS THE THEMATIC QUESTION FOR SEVENTH GRADE, UNIT 1.

HOW DO A COMMUNITY SHARED VALUES CREATE BOTH BELONGING AND REJECTION? GIVEN OUR LIVED EXPERIENCES, THE TEXTS THEY READ, THERE'S AN END.

HOW DO THE CHALLENGES OF ADOLESCENT CONTRIBUTE TO OUR GROWTH? DR. ANZALONE, YOU WANT TO START? WE'LL JUST GO DOWN THE TABLE.

WE HAVE ACCESS POINTS.

HOW DOES THE TIME AND PLACE IN WHICH WE LIVE SHAPE OUR STORY? THERE'S ACCESS POINTS CONSIDERED FROM THE VERY GET GO OF HOW TO ENGAGE KIDS.

THERE'S VERY OPEN ENDED, VERY AUTHENTIC OPPORTUNITIES THERE.

WHAT WE'RE SEEING OUR STUDENTS DOING IS READING A VARIETY OF TEXTS, ANNOTATING ONLINE, ANNOTATING ON PRINT, USING TEXT-SPECIFIC AND CONTENT-CROSSING VOCABULARY, HAVING CONVERSATIONS WITH ONE ANOTHER IN A VARIETY OF WAYS ABOUT WHAT THEY'RE READING AND HOW THOSE CONNECT TO EACH OTHER AND TO THEIR EXPERIENCES.

EVERY UNIT COMES WITH RELATED MEDIA IN THE FORM OF VIDEOS OR PODCASTS.

THOSE ARE BEING TIED IN AND KIDS ARE MAKING CONNECTIONS AND A VARIETY OF GRAPHIC ORGANIZERS ARE BEING USED THAT HELP ALL.

EVERY UNIT CULMINATES IN SOME KIND OF TASK, WHETHER IT'S SOMETHING WRITTEN OR A PRESENTATION.

AND THERE'S A VARIETY OF SCAFFOLDS TO SUPPORT THEM, AND THE UNITS CHUNK THOSE WRITING PIECES TO BUILD TO WHATEVER THAT FINAL PIECE IS.

THIS IS A ONE PAGER, SO TO SPEAK, OF WHAT TEACHERS CAN SEE IN TERMS OF A UNIT AT A GLANCE.

WHAT YOU SEE HERE IS THE TITLE OF EACH THOSE ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS AND THE KNOWLEDGE BUILDING THAT IS LEADING THE WORK, THE TEXT, BOTH LITERARY AND INFORMATIONAL, THAT STUDENTS WILL BE READING, THE FOCUS SKILLS WITHIN READING AND WRITING, AND SPEAKING AND LISTENING, WHAT THE CULMINATING TASK WILL BE AND WHAT STANDARDS ARE SPECIFICALLY TAUGHT, PRACTICED, GIVEN FEEDBACK ON AND ASSESSED WITHIN THE UNIT.

SOMETHING THAT BUBBLED UP IS VERY IMPORTANT TO THE TEACHERS HERE IN CAMAS WAS LEANING RIGHT INTO WHAT COMMONLIT PROVIDES IN INDEPENDENT READING BOOK CLUBS.

THESE ARE NOT LIKE BOOK CLUBS THAT I

[01:00:01]

EVER IMPLEMENTED IN THE CLASSROOM OR WAS EVER A PART OF.

JUST LIKE THEIR UNITS, THESE INDEPENDENT READING BOOK CLUBS ARE THEMATIC.

WHEN YOU'RE IN THAT FIRST UNIT OF HOW TO COMMUNITY VALUES ACCEPT AND REJECT YOU, THAT'S A LENS YOU PICK WHEN YOU PICK A BOOK.

WHEN YOU PICK THAT BOOK, YOU'RE THINKING ABOUT THAT CHARACTER AND WHERE THOSE COMMUNITY VALUES SHOW UP AND ACCEPT REJECT YOU.

WITH THAT, WHEN YOU'RE IN BOOK GROUPS DISCUSSING, IT'S VERY POSSIBLE THAT FIVE KIDS IN A GROUP HAVE FIVE DIFFERENT BOOKS.

WHAT THEY'RE SHARING IS THAT THEMATIC QUESTION AND HOW IT EMERGES IN THEIR CHARACTERS THAT THEY SHARE WITH ONE ANOTHER.

SOMETIMES STUDENTS ARE IN THE SAME BOOK, WHETHER THAT'S A TEACHER CHOICE OR STUDENT CHOICE TO SUPPORT WHERE THEY ARE AS LEARNERS, BUT THERE'S MORE THINKING ABOUT, I'VE GOT THIS DRIVING QUESTION TO ANSWER THROUGH THE BOOK, WHICH ALSO OPENS UP THE VARIETY OF BOOKS STUDENTS CAN READ.

BECAUSE IN OUR MIDDLE SCHOOL LIBRARIES THERE'S A TON OF DIFFERENT COMMUNITIES, FOR EXAMPLE, IN OUR BOOKS THAT STUDENTS CAN LEAN INTO AND READ THAT.

THROUGH THIS, THE INDEPENDENT READING BOOK CLUBS, TEACHERS CAN BE ASSESSING ON SPEAKING AND LISTENING SKILLS, USING TEXT EVIDENCE, WRITING TO DIFFERENT STANDARDS THAT ARE ASSESSED THROUGH THERE.

KIDS HAVE A LOT OF VOICE AND CHOICE IN WHAT THEY READ, WHO THEY READ WITH AS A GROUP.

COMMONLIT BUILDS IN HOW BOOK CLUBS CAN CREATE THEIR AGREEMENTS OR WHAT WE CALL NORMS OF HOW WE'RE GOING TO SHOW UP FOR EACH OTHER.

THEY PAST THE BOOK, THEY DECIDE WHAT THEMATIC QUESTION THEY WANT TO ADDRESS THE NEXT TIME THEY GET TOGETHER.

THERE'S A LOT OF PRACTICING STUDENT AGENCY AND OWNERSHIP IN THIS PROCESS.

AS WE CAME TO OUR DECISION POINT, THERE WAS MANY STRATEGIC FACTORS IN PLACE.

THERE WERE TWO DIFFERENT PILOT EXPERIENCES.

OUR CORE TEAM WAS PHENOMENAL AT GOING BACK TO THEIR BUILDINGS AND TALKING WITH THEIR OTHER ELA COLLEAGUES ABOUT WHAT THEY WERE EXPERIENCING WITH THE PILOT QUESTIONS THEY HAD.

WE LOOKED AT COMMONLIT THROUGH OUR VALUES AND BELIEFS AND WHERE THOSE SHOWED UP IN THE COMMONLIT CURRICULUM.

WE USED THE EQUIP RUBRIC TO ALSO HOLD SUBJECTIVITY IN CHECK WITH SOME OBJECTIVITY OF WHERE THE STRENGTHS ARE HERE.

THE TEAM DECIDED, ALL GRADE LEVEL LEADS AND SPECIALISTS AS REPRESENTATIVES OF THEIR ELA COLLEAGUES VOTED TO MOVE FORWARD WITH COMMONLIT.

WHAT YOU SEE HERE WHEN I TALK ABOUT USING OUR VALUES AND BELIEFS AS A RUBRIC TO CHECK OUR WORK WITH COMMONLIT.

HERE'S AN EXAMPLE OF THAT.

INCLUSION WAS ONE OF OUR BELIEFS AND VALUES.

WE DID THIS WITH EACH OF THOSE CORE VALUES AND BELIEFS.

WE NOTED WHAT DOES COMMONLIT BRING FOR INCLUSION THAT'S PROVIDED FOR US, THAT SUPPORTS US WITH OUR WORK WITH KIDS, AND WHERE DO WE BRING IN OUR TEACHER MOVES IN SUPPORT OF OUR KIDS.

AS YOU CAN SEE HERE, WE'VE GOT A GOOD BALANCE OF BOTH THE MATERIALS AND THE PROFESSIONALS THAT ARE WORKING WITH OUR KIDS IN TERMS OF WHAT COMMONLIT BRINGS, THAT VARIETY, VARIETY OF WAYS TO READ AND WRITE.

THOSE SYSTEMS BUILT RIGHT IN ALONGSIDE THEIR PEERS, DIFFERENT SCAFFOLDS, DIFFERENT ROUTINES.

THEN WHERE TEACHER MOVES COME IN.

IF I HAD TO SUM IT UP IN THAT FIRST LINE, IT'S WHERE DO I BRING IN REVIEW, WHERE DO I BRING IN EXTENSION FOR STUDENTS IN LOTS OF DIFFERENT WAYS, WHICH WOULD BE EXPECTED.

>> CAN I PAUSE RIGHT THERE FOR A QUICK SEC?

>> YES.

>> BECAUSE I JUST REALLY WANT TO UNDERSTAND THIS, THE OBSERVATIONS OF WHAT COMMONLIT BRINGS VERSUS TEACHER MOVES AND REALLY UNDERSTAND, ARE YOU ILLUSTRATING THAT THE PROMPTS, PER SE FROM THIS CURRICULUM PROVIDES THESE THINGS AND THE TEACHER MOVES ARE THE PROFESSIONAL INPUT FROM OUR EDUCATORS OF WHAT THEY KNOW AND WANT TO BRING TOGETHER IN AN ELA SITUATION.

IS THAT WHAT YOU'RE SAYING?

>> NO, THAT'S A GOOD CLARIFYING QUESTION.

THANK YOU.

THIS IS WHAT WE NOTICED IN THE PILOT.

IN TERMS OF CREATING AN INCLUSIVE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT FOR STUDENTS.

THOSE TOP BULLETS ARE WHAT WE NOTICED WERE BUILT IN TO WHAT COMMONLIT BRINGS FOR US.

WHAT WE NOTICED IN THE PILOT WHERE WE MADE MOVES THAT WERE OUTSIDE THE CURRICULUM WERE LIKE, WHERE TO REVIEW AND ADD EXTENSIONS BASED ON WHAT THE STUDENT DATA WAS SHOWING US,

[01:05:03]

SCAFFOLDING SKILLS ON DEMAND, MAKING THOSE PRINT COPIES SO STUDENTS CAN HAVE A HYBRID EXPERIENCE WHETHER IF THEY WANT ONLINE OR IN PAPER.

DOES THAT CLARIFY? THANK YOU FOR ASKING THAT.

THEN IN MY ROLE, I WAS ABLE TO GATHER FEEDBACK VOICES FROM TEACHERS ACROSS.

I WANTED TO GET A REPRESENTATION FROM OUR THREE DIFFERENT MIDDLE SCHOOLS AND THREE DIFFERENT LEVELS OF WHAT'S THEIR WHY OF COMMONLIT FOR THEMSELVES, AS EDUCATORS, FOR THEIR COLLEAGUES, FOR OUR KIDS, AND FOR OUR COMMUNITY HERE.

THIS FIRST VOICE IS FROM JEN IRELAND, WHO SERVES AS A SPECIALIST FOR SIXTH, SEVENTH, AND EIGHTH GRADE, ELA LIBERTY.

I BOLDED SOME OF THE PIECES THAT POPPED OUT TO ME AND CONNECTED TO OUR BELIEFS AND VALUES, GOING BACK TO OUR ORIGINAL PURPOSE.

WANTING THAT COMMON FOUNDATION AT EACH GRADE LEVEL TO FURTHER BRING MEANING TO WHEN WE GET TOGETHER AND DISCUSS OUR PRACTICE AND HOW THAT'S IMPACTING OUR KIDS, HAVING ACCESS TO DIVERSE CHARACTERS AND PEOPLE THAT WE'RE SEEING, AND HAVING MORE INCLUSIVE CLASSROOMS. I WAS ALSO ABLE TO TALK WITH SARAH HUNT, WHO IS SEVENTH GRADE AT ODYSSEY, AND SHE'S THE HUMANITIES TEACHER AT SEVENTH GRADE.

LOTS OF INTEGRATION REQUIRED ACROSS CONTENT THERE.

SOME OF HER LINES ECHO GENS, LOTS OF WINDOWS AND MIRRORS IN THE TEXT THAT THE STUDENTS ARE READING.

A COUPLE LINES IN HERE.

THEIR STUDENTS WRITTEN EXPRESSION OF TEXTS AND DISCUSSIONS HAVE SKYROCKETED SINCE THE BEGINNING OF THE YEAR.

COMMONLIT CURRICULUM FREES ME UP TO REVIEW STUDENT DATA AND OFFER FEEDBACK IN A WAY THAT I CAN'T WHEN I'M CONSTANTLY CREATING MY OWN CURRICULUM.

THAT LINE SUMMARIZES A BIG NEED THAT I HEARD FROM MORE EDUCATORS THAN JUST SARAH, AND THAT THIS BUILDS IN THOSE AREAS OF SUPPORT FOR OUR STUDENTS WHO ARE CONTINUING TO LEARN TOWARD THE STANDARDS AND THOSE WHO TEACH US EARLY ON THAT THEY ARE SOLIDLY AT THOSE FOUNDATIONAL LEVELS AND READY FOR SOME ADVANCED ANALYSIS OF THE STANDARDS.

THEN I WAS ALSO ABLE TO SPEAK WITH MELANIE WEAKLY AT SIXTH GRADE AT SKY RIDGE.

AGAIN, THERE'S A THEME HERE WHICH I THINK CLARIFIES THE UNIFIED PURPOSE OF WHAT WE WERE WORKING ON.

THERE'S RIGOR IN THERE WITH THE TASKS.

I SPEND LESS TIME PLANNING AND MORE TIME TEACHING AND RESPONDING TO SPECIFIC STUDENT NEEDS.

ALL STUDENTS ENTERING HIGH SCHOOL WILL HAVE A SIMILAR EQUITABLE LEARNING EXPERIENCE.

THEN AT OUR HEART, OUR KIDS.

I WAS ABLE TO FACILITATE A LITTLE BIT MORE THAN 20 DIFFERENT EMPATHY INTERVIEWS WITH SIXTH, SEVENTH, AND EIGHTH GRADERS ACROSS OUR DISTRICT WITH THE SIMPLE PROMPT OF WHAT SUPPORTS YOU IN YOUR ELA CLASS.

TIME TIME AGAIN, THAT'S WHY THERE'S THE BIG OLD HEART THERE.

IT'S THE TEACHERS.

IT'S THOSE TEACHER MOVES.

IT'S THE ENERGY THEY BRING INTO THE ROOM.

IT'S THEIR APPROACHABILITY.

THE RESOURCES THAT THEY PROVIDE AND THEIR KNOW HOW ON HOW TO GIVE KIDS DIFFERENT EXPERIENCES SO THEY CAN FIND THEIR OWN PATH OF WHAT SUPPORTS THEM AS LEARNERS AND THE KNOWLEDGE THEY BRING.

I WANTED TO HIGHLIGHT THAT.

THEN AS I WAS LOOKING AT SOME OF THE QUOTES THAT RESONATED, AS I WAS LOOKING AT THESE AND I WAS ALSO LOOKING AT LANGUAGE IN OUR EMERGING MISSION AND VISION STATEMENTS HERE IN CAMAS AND ONE LINE SPOKE TO ME AS LIKE, THIS IS THE REASON FOR THIS.

WE COMMIT TO AMPLIFYING STUDENT VOICE SO THAT OUR PRACTICES AND DECISION MAKING ARE INFORMED BY THEIR EXPERIENCES, BELIEFS, AND PERSPECTIVES.

IF THESE KIDS DON'T SAY THAT, I'M NOT REALLY SURE WHAT THEY'RE SAYING BECAUSE THEY DID NOT HOLD BACK WITH ME.

THEY WANT CHOICE.

THEY WANT CHOICE WHEN THEY PRESENT IN A SMALL GROUP, ONE ON ONE OR WHOLE CLASS.

THEY WANT CHOICE TO PRINT OR TYPE.

THEY WANT CHOICE OR NEED THE CHOICE TO HAVE THE ONLINE PIECE READ TO THEM BECAUSE THEY WANT ACCESS TO THAT GRADE LEVEL MATERIAL AND FOR WHATEVER REASON CAN'T ACCESS IT ON THEIR OWN YET.

THEY WANT TO READ ON PAPER SO THEY CAN ANNOTATE, BECAUSE THEY DON'T WANT TO SCROLL.

IT SPEAKS TO THAT, LEARNING IS FUNDAMENTALLY SOCIAL.

THEY WANT THOSE INTERACTIVE PIECES WITH ONE ANOTHER BEING INTERACTIVE, LEARNING FROM OTHERS, SHARING ACTIVITIES.

[01:10:02]

I WAS LOOKING AT PROFILES OF A GRADUATE AND THAT UPPER LEFT HAND QUOTE FROM A SIXTH GRADER MADE ME THINK OF THE FUTURE WELLNESS NAVIGATOR AND CRITICAL THINKER AND EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATOR.

WE NEED TO LEARN HOW TO MANAGE OURSELVES IN THE REAL WORLD AND I'M IN THE REAL WORLD RIGHT NOW, ALREADY A PRETTY EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATOR.

THEN THAT QUOTE JUST TO THE LEFT OF THE HEART, THINKING ABOUT WHEN I THINK OF THE HOPE AS A FORMER ELA TEACHER, THE CONNECTIONS THAT KIDS MAKE AND TAKE WITH THEM, THE LEARNING, LITERARY TECHNIQUES AND TEXT.

WHEN I'M READING A BOOK, I'M NOTICING THOSE AND I'M USING THEM IN MY OWN WRITING AS WELL.

IT WENT BEYOND THESE FOUR WALLS.

IT'S VERY IMPORTANT IN OUR PROCESS TO COLLECT THESE STUDENT VOICES.

AS WE CONSIDER THE IMPORTANCE OF THE MATERIALS WE PUT IN FRONT OF OUR KIDS AND THE PROFESSIONAL MOVES WE MAKE WITH THOSE THAT WE HEAR, THEIR EXPERIENCE AND WHERE THEY WANT TO BE MET IN THAT AS WELL.

AS I SHARED, OUR CORE TEAM CAME TOGETHER TO PROPOSE THE FIRST YEAR SCOPE AND SEQUENCE AGREEMENTS, AND WHAT HAS EMERGED IS WHAT IS IN FRONT OF YOU.

LIBERTY AND SKY RIDGE HAVE AGREED TO FOUR UNITS WITH TWO BOOK CLUBS FOR THE NEXT SCHOOL YEAR.

AN ODYSSEY, IT'S EXPECTED IT WILL LOOK DIFFERENT THERE WITH THE USE OF THIS, WITH THEIR REQUIRED INTEGRATION WITH OTHER CONTENT STANDARDS THAT THEY'LL WORK ON.

AT LEAST ONE UNIT, ONE BOOK CLUB, AND WITH COMMONLIT COMES A VERY EXTENSIVE LIBRARY WITH LOTS OF DIFFERENT RELATED MEDIA, FICTION AND NON-FICTION THAT TIE RIGHT IN TO THEIR INTEGRATED PROJECTS AS WELL.

NOW, THE FUNDING.

THIS IS THE RESOURCE AND IMPLEMENTATION COSTS.

>> [INAUDIBLE]

>> THANK YOU. THE OVERALL FEE FOR THE COMMONLIT SCHOOL CENTRAL PRO PLUS IS FOR EIGHT YEARS.

THEN THERE'S FUNDING BUDGETED OVER A THREE-YEAR PERIOD TO CONTINUE FUNDING OUR LIBRARIES, TO SUPPORT DIVERSITY IN BOOKS FOR THE BOOK CLUBS THAT GO WITH THOSE THEMATIC QUESTIONS.

WITH THE UNITS THAT WE'VE BEEN PILOTING, THERE'S A HYBRID APPROACH WITH OUR TEACHERS AND STUDENTS, SO THERE WILL NEED TO BE THOSE CONSUMABLES WITH THE READING AND THE WRITING PIECES, AND PLANNING IN FOR PROFESSIONAL LEARNING EVERY YEAR TO SUSTAIN THE SUPPORT FOR OUR TEACHERS ACROSS BUILDINGS AND WITHIN BUILDINGS AS WE GO.

THIS WILL BE FOR AN AVERAGE OF 20 TEACHERS SERVING OUR STUDENTS IN ELA.

THIS IS MORE OF AN IN DEPTH LOOK OF WHAT COMES WITH THE COMMONLIT SCHOOL ESSENTIALS PRO PLUS, AND THE EIGHT-YEAR CONTRACT.

WE'VE BEEN LOOKING AT THE PROFESSIONAL LEARNING ASSESSMENT AND DATA AND THE PREMIUM SUPPORT AS WE'VE BEEN MAPPING OUT PROJECTED PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT INTO NEXT YEAR AND BEYOND.

WE DO KNOW THAT WITH THE CURRICULUM, WITH THE EIGHT-YEAR LICENSE, IF THERE ARE REVISIONS WITHIN ANY YEAR, WE GET THOSE EITHER LIVE OR AT THE BEGINNING OF NEXT YEAR AT NO EXTRA COST.

IT'S NOT A YOU NEED TO PAY MORE NOW BECAUSE WE'RE IN VERSION 3.0.

WHATEVER REVISIONS HAPPEN IN AN EIGHT-YEAR PERIOD, WE HAVE THAT ONGOING ACCESS TO AND PD THAT COMES WITH IT SHOULD IT BE NECESSARY.

THE CONTACTS WITH COMMONLIT HAVE TAUGHT US SO FAR THAT THEY'RE VERY RESPONSIVE AND VERY TIMELY WITH THAT.

AS WE LOOK AT OUR PRELIMINARY DRAFT TO SUPPORT OUR TEACHERS INTO NEXT YEAR, WE'LL SEE HOW THAT WORKS.

NOTHING WE DO EXIST IN A VACUUM.

WE DID FIND OUT THAT COMMONLIT DOES PROVIDE WHAT THEY CALL A FOUNDATIONS JUMPSTART.

IT'S A TWO-DAY IN PERSON, WHICH WE DIDN'T THINK THERE WAS GOING TO BE ANY IN PERSON OFFERINGS THAT WE'RE HOPING FOR JUNE, AND WHEN I MET WITH OUR TWO CONTACTS LAST WEEK, I SAID, ABOUT PD, AND SHE SAID, "CAN I JUMP IN?" I SAID SURE. SHE SAID, WE KNOW WE HAVE EDUCATORS WHO WE CALL SUPER USERS WHO HAVE BEEN ACCESSING THE FREE VERSION FOR THE LAST TWO OR THREE YEARS.

[01:15:02]

WE KNOW WE HAVE PEOPLE WHO WILL BE LOGGING INTO COMMONLIT FOR THE FIRST TIME, AND WE PLAN FOR BOTH.

WHICH I REALLY APPRECIATED BEING CUT OFF AND TOLD BECAUSE THAT IS VERY TRUE REPRESENTATION OF OUR ELA TEACHERS.

NONE OF US LIKE TO HAVE OUR TIME WASTED.

I APPRECIATED HEARING THAT FROM THE GET GO, ESPECIALLY IF WE'RE LOOKING TO SUPPORT TWO DAYS OF IN PERSON TO GET US ALL MOVING FORWARD WITH THIS.

WE'RE PLANNING ON OFFERING AN OPTIONAL DAY IN AUGUST FOR TEACHERS FOR COLLABORATION, AND WHAT'S EMERGED AS THE TOP TWO OPTIONS FOR TEACHERS WANTING FIRST PD WOULD BE ENRICHMENT AND EXTENSION OPPORTUNITIES THROUGH AND HOW TO UTILIZE COMMONLIT WITH THAT FOR OUR STUDENTS WITH HIGHLY CAPABLE IDENTIFICATIONS AND SCAFFOLDING INSTRUCTION TO SUPPORT ALL LEARNERS IN SUPPORTING OUR UNIVERSAL DESIGN FOR LEARNING.

THOSE WOULD BE AVAILABLE ALONG WITH TIME FOR COLLABORATION.

THEN WE'VE MAPPED THEM OUT BASED ON THE SCOPE AND SEQUENCE OF WHEN UNITS ARE ENDING TO LOOK AT STUDENT DATA AT THAT POINT, WHEN THE UNITS ARE STARTING TO GIVE TEACHERS EXTRA TIME FIRST YEAR IN A NEW CURRICULUM, YOU GOT TO DO A LITTLE BIT MORE OF A LIFT.

PLANNING IN A MID YEAR REFLECTION WITH OUR CORE TEAM.

LISA AND I HAVE BEEN VERY LUCKY TO WORK WITH THE FACILITATORS IN BATTLEGROUND WHO JUST ADOPTED COMMONLIT AS WELL.

THEY'RE IN THEIR FIRST YEAR AND WE WERE ABLE TO ATTEND THEIR MID YEAR REVIEW WITH THEIR CORE TEAM AND WITH COMMONLIT OF WHAT ARE THE CHALLENGES, WHAT ARE THE SUCCESSES TO FURTHER SUPPORT THEM THROUGH THE END OF THIS YEAR.

WHICH WAS VERY HELPFUL TO HEAR AND HELP US LEARN FORWARD FROM WHAT THEY'VE LEARNED SO FAR.

THEN AT THE END OF NEXT YEAR, WE'LL COME BACK TOGETHER AND REFLECT ON WHAT WORKED WELL FOR US AND OUR LEARNERS WITH THIS YEAR'S SCOPE AND SEQUENCE AND MAKE ANY VARIATIONS WE NEED TO FOR THE FOLLOWING YEAR.

WE COME TO THE REQUEST THAT IN ALIGNMENT WITH BOARD POLICY AND PROCEDURE 2020, A MOTION TO ADOPT COMMONLIT 360 AS THE MIDDLE SCHOOL CORE ELA CURRICULUM.

>> THANK YOU, JOY.

ARE THERE ANY OTHER QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS?

>> QUICK QUESTION, AND YOU MAY HAVE SAID THIS BEFORE AT THE START, I'M SORRY IF I MISSED IT, BUT HOW MANY YEARS HAVE WE HAD THIS CURRENT CURRICULUM IN PLACE?

>> WELL, KIM, YOU WANT TO JUMP IN HERE?

>> GO AHEAD [INAUDIBLE]

>> I THINK IT'S BEEN OVER 20 YEARS SINCE WE'VE HAD.

>> TWENTY YEARS?

>> I THINK LISA SAID 2004 OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT.

>> MY QUESTION OF WHAT'S NOT WORKING WOULD BE A LONG LIST OF THINGS?

>> YEAH.

>> THANK YOU, JOY. IT'S GOOD TO SEE YOU.

GAIL, IF WE CAN GO BACK TO SLIDE 24 REALLY QUICK WHILE I ASK MY QUESTION.

MAYBE THIS IS A QUESTION FOR JASON, I'M NOT SURE.

I NOTICED THAT IT'S HEAVILY DISCOUNTED AFTER A YEAR 5, SO I'M CURIOUS ON WHY WE'RE SIGNING AN EIGHT-YEAR CONTRACT.

>> YOU WANT TO JUMP IN?

>> YEAH.

>> IN YEAR 5 AND THEREAFTER, WE'RE ABLE TO GET A DISCOUNTED PRICE.

MY UNDERSTANDING IS THERE'S A CERTAIN LIFE CYCLE TO CURRICULUM, AND THIS WOULD BE THE EXPECTED LIFE CYCLE, SO IT MATCHES WITH THAT.

THAT'S MY ASSUMPTION, BUT I WISH LISA WAS HERE TO BE HONEST.

>> YOU BELIEVE THAT A LIFE CYCLE OF CURRICULUM IS EIGHT YEARS, AND THAT'S WHY THE CONTRACT READS EIGHT YEARS? BECAUSE I THINK JOY BROUGHT UP A REALLY GOOD POINT OF WHEN THINGS ARE UPDATED, AND I'M THINKING, OH MY GOSH, EIGHT YEARS, OF COURSE, THERE BETTER BE UPDATES IN REALLY GOOD CURRICULUM.

SO WHEN I SEE A DISCOUNT ONCE YOU GET TO YEAR 5, I THINK GREAT.

WHY WOULD WE GO PAST YEAR 5? WHY WOULD WE NOT RENEW AT YEAR 5 FOR ANOTHER FIVE YEARS?

>> BECAUSE THEN THAT MIGHT LOCK US INTO 10 YEARS.

>> IF YOU WANTED THAT HEAVILY DISCOUNTED.

>> I THINK EIGHT YEARS IS A PRETTY REASONABLE LIFE CYCLE FOR A CURRICULUM.

IT'S BEEN 20 SINCE WE'VE ADOPTED THIS LAST TIME.

>> THAT WAS MY UNDERSTANDING, AND AGAIN, I APOLOGIZE, I WISH I HAD A BETTER ANSWER,

[01:20:02]

BUT I NOTED THAT TOO, BECAUSE I WAS LIKE, OH, EIGHT, WHY EIGHT? IT STARTED TO MAKE SENSE ONCE I STARTED UNDERSTANDING WHAT YOU MIGHT EXPECT FOR A LIFE CYCLE OF A CURRICULUM.

FIVE YEARS IS TOO SOON TO RE-EVALUATE IF YOU MADE THE RIGHT MOVE.

YOU'VE PUT A LOT OF TIME AND EFFORT INTO IT, EIGHT YEARS, THAT'S A GOOD TIME, I WOULD THINK, TO RE-EVALUATE AND GO, WE'RE GOING TO CONTINUE THIS OR DO WE NEED TO START THINKING ABOUT TRANSITIONING? YOU WOULD ASSUME THAT YOU WOULD WANT TO CONTINUE IT ON.

>> I'D SAY TOO SHORT OF A WINDOW, JUST LIKE YOU'RE SAYING, IF WE HAVE TO RE-EVALUATE AND KEEP CHANGING EVERY FIVE YEARS TO A DIFFERENT CURRICULUM AND GO THROUGH A TWO-YEAR PILOT ON ALL OF THIS AGAIN, I THINK YOU WANT A LITTLE MORE RUNWAY ON IT.

I ALSO WANT TO JUST SAY WHILE I HAVE MY MIC ON, THANK YOU FOR STEPPING IN AND PINCH-HITTING.

I KNOW YOU AND LISA WERE SUPPOSED TO DO A TAG TEAM KIND OF THING, AND SO I REALLY APPRECIATE YOU JUMPING IN AND SAVING THE DAY ON THIS JOY.

ANY OTHER QUESTION?

>> I'M NOTICING THAT YEAR 1 MIGHT BE THE HEAVY LIFT YEAR, UNLESS THE CONTRACT IS READING THAT WE GET TO SPREAD THIS OUT OVER SOME TIME.

YEAR 1'S THE HEAVY LIFT YEAR. GOOD TO KNOW.

>> ANY OTHER QUESTIONS, COMMENTS?

>> THIS ONE'S FOR JASON.

WE HAD THIS MONEY EARMARKED IN OUR FUND BALANCE BECAUSE WE KNEW THIS WAS COMING UP, CORRECT?

>> YEAH. THIS IS GENERAL FUND.

WE TALKED ABOUT THE NEED TO DO THIS LAST YEAR, SO WE HAD BUILT THIS IN TO OUR ORIGINAL BUDGET GOING INTO THIS YEAR.

>> ANY OTHER QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS? I ALSO WANT TO SAY TOO, I APPRECIATE THE CONSISTENCY ACROSS THE BUILDINGS.

I APPRECIATE THE FACT THAT THIS HAS BEEN A TWO-YEAR PROCESS.

WHAT I ACTUALLY REALLY LIKED IS THAT IT SOUNDS LIKE YOU PILOTED ONE CURRICULUM, DIDN'T LIKE IT, AND THEN WENT AND CHOSE A SECOND.

I LIKE THE FACT THAT IT'S NOT JUST A RUBBER STAMP.

THIS IS JUST WHAT EVERYBODY DOES.

YOU REALLY GOT IN THERE, PLAYED AROUND WITH IT, DECIDED THIS WASN'T WHAT WORKED FOR THE MAJORITY OF THE GROUP AND WENT BACK TO SQUARE 1.

I REALLY APPRECIATE THAT.

THAT GIVES ME A LOT OF CONFIDENCE IN THE CURRICULUM.

>> THAT WAS SOMETHING I WROTE DOWN TOO, IS THAT YOU PILOTED A PROGRAM AND YOU REALIZED IT WASN'T THE RIGHT ONE, AND SO BEING ABLE TO BE CONFIDENT AND SAY NO, THIS ISN'T RIGHT, LET'S MOVE ON TO SOMETHING ELSE.

ALSO THE FACT THAT YOU TALK TO YOUR NEIGHBORING DISTRICTS.

THE FACT THAT BATTLEGROUND HAD THAT AND YOU'RE ABLE TO LEARN FROM THEM A LITTLE BIT.

I LOVE WHEN WE'RE ABLE TO TALK TO OUR NEIGHBORS AND LEARN WHAT THEY'RE DOING IS REALLY HELPFUL, SO GREAT JOB, A LOT OF WORK.

>> GREAT.

>> WAS THIS PILOTED AT ALL OUR MIDDLE SCHOOLS? SO JUST THAT ONE?

>> AT ALL THREE.

>> I LOVE THE CONSISTENCY ACROSS THE BUILDINGS THAT WE'RE EVEN FIGURING OUT HOW TO USE IT IN OUR PBL SETTINGS. IT'S GREAT.

>> ENOUGH OF MY QUESTIONS.

I DO APPRECIATE ALL THE WORK OF TWO YEARS CULMINATED INTO A SLIDE DECK AND YOU BEING HERE AND PRESENTING AND REPRESENTING YOUR ELA PROFESSIONALS.

SO THANK YOU SO MUCH.

WE'RE EXCITED FOR YOU AND WE'RE EXCITED FOR STUDENTS.

THIS SOUNDS REALLY A GREAT CHOICE.

SO THANK YOU FOR ALL THE WORK THAT WENT INTO IT.

WITH THAT, I'D LIKE TO MOVE TO ADOPT THE MIDDLE SCHOOL ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS CURRICULUM AS PRESENTED.

>> I'LL SECOND THAT.

>> IT WAS MOVED BY ERICA, SECONDED BY TRACY.

ANY FURTHER DISCUSSION? ALL THOSE IN FAVOR?

>> AYE.

>> OPPOSED? MOTION CARRIES.

HAPPY DANCE FROM THE CROWD.

>> THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

>> JOY, THANK YOU ONCE AGAIN, REALLY APPRECIATE IT.

THANK YOU FOR JUMPING IN.

RELEASE THE HOUNDS.

THAT MOVES US DOWN TO SECTION 9 OF OUR AGENDA,

[9. POLICY REVIEW - First Reading]

AND WE HAVE A SLATE OF POLICIES UP FOR REVIEW FOR FIRST READING.

I'M GOING TO GO THROUGH THESE ONE AT A TIME AND JUST SEE IF PEOPLE HAVE QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS ON ANY OF THEM.

I KNOW YOU'VE BEEN PRESENTED WITH THEM BEFORE TO READ THROUGH, AND THEN WE CAN DECIDE WHETHER WE WANT TO APPROVE SOME, ALL, OR WHAT WE WANT TO DO.

AGAIN, IT'S JUST FOR FIRST READING, NOT FOR ADOPTION.

FIRST, POLICY 2255, THE ALE COURSES.

ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS ON THAT? I KNOW THAT WE WENT THROUGH ALL THESE AT OUR WORKSHOP AS WELL.

>> YEAH, IN DEPTH, SO I DON'T HAVE ANY MORE COMMENTS.

>> 2415, THE PERFORMANCE-BASED PATHWAY FOR HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION.

[01:25:01]

>> SUPER APPRECIATIVE OF THIS ONE.

>> AS A HIGH SCHOOL COUNSELOR WHO KNOWS THE WORK IT IS FOR OUR COUNSELORS TO MAKE SURE THAT ALL OF OUR STUDENTS IN HIGH SCHOOL HAVE A GRAD PATH, ONE OF THE NINE GRAD PATHWAYS, AND IT IS A BIG TASK.

THIS POLICY WOULD, AS FAR AS I UNDERSTAND IT, ALLOW FOR THE MOST PART OUR SENIOR PROJECTS TO MEET THIS GRADUATION PATHWAY, WHICH WOULD THEN ALMOST GUARANTEE NOBODY DOESN'T GRADUATE BECAUSE THEY DON'T HAVE A PATHWAY.

>> SO NO QUESTIONS. NO, THAT'S GOOD.

>> APPRECIATE IT.

>> 3116, STUDENTS IN FOSTER CARE.

3241, STUDENT INDISCIPLINE.

ANY QUESTIONS, COMMENTS THERE? 5254, NEW POLICY, STAFF EXPRESSION.

>> I WOULD LIKE TO PULL THIS FROM OUR LIST BECAUSE IT SOUNDS LIKE THERE'S ALREADY SOME COLLABORATION AND FURTHER WORK TO DO, AND IT DOESN'T SEEM LIKE IT'S IN A PLACE WHERE WE WANT TO MOVE FORWARD YET.

SO I WOULD RECOMMEND WE PULL IT OFF, DO A LITTLE MORE WORK OFFLINE, AND THEN BRING IT BACK.

>> CONNIE, IF I MAY.

THANK YOU, CONNIE. I THINK THAT'S A GOOD IDEA.

WE'RE WORKING WITH MEMBERS OF OUR COMMUNITY, CEA LEADERSHIP, JUST TO MAKE SURE THAT IF THE BOARD DOES ADOPT THIS, IT'S DONE THE RIGHT WAY, THAT ALL VOICES ARE AT THE TABLE.

WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT THIS IS RIGHT FOR OUR COMMUNITY.

IT WAS SOMETHING THAT WAS A RECOMMENDATION FROM [INAUDIBLE], BUT NOT NECESSARILY REQUIRED.

SO WE HAVE SOME DISCRETION HERE.

I APPRECIATE THE TIME FOR THE STAFF TO LOOK AT THIS AND COLLABORATE MORE WITH OUR BARGAINING GROUPS.

>> I JUST WOULD AGREE WITH CONNIE ON THIS ONE.

THIS IS WHY WE DO THIS PROCESS, AND WE HAVE OUR WORKSHOPS, AND WE GO THROUGH ALL THESE AT OUR WORKSHOPS, AND THEN WE BRING THEM HERE, AND THE FACT THAT WE'RE ALL DOING IT TOGETHER, I KNOW WE HAD A POLICY REVIEW COMMITTEE FOR A WHILE WHERE IT WAS TO REVIEW, BUT THE FACT THAT WE'RE ALL ON THEM TOGETHER, I THINK IS REALLY HELPFUL AND MAKE SURE THAT WE'RE DOING IT RIGHT WHEN WE'RE GOING THROUGH THESE.

I'D ALSO AGREE IF WE PULL THAT ONE OFF OF THESE FIRST READINGS.

>> IS THERE ANY OTHER QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS ABOUT THAT?

>> YES, WE WILL TALK ABOUT IT IN OUR NEXT WORKSHOP.

>> I'M GOING TO PULL ITEM 9E, I'M GOING TO PULL THAT OFF THE SLATE OF CONSIDERATION FOR FIRST READING HERE WITH CONSENT OF THE BOARD.

DOESN'T LOOK LIKE I HAVE ANYBODY OBJECTING.

WE'LL MOVE ON TO 5410, WHICH IS HOLIDAYS.

QUESTIONS ON THAT.

6020, SYSTEM OF FUNDS AND ALLOCATION.

6213, REIMBURSEMENT OF TRAVEL EXPENSES, AND 6959, THE ACCEPTANCE OF COMPLETED PROJECTS.

I WOULD ENTERTAIN A MOTION AND A SECOND TO APPROVE THE POLICIES AS SUBMITTED FOR FIRST READING, WITH THE EXCEPTION OF 5254.

>> MOVED.

>> SECOND.

>> OKAY. IT WAS MOVED BY CONNIE, SECONDED BY ERICA.

ANY FURTHER DISCUSSION? OKAY. ALL THOSE IN FAVOR?

>> AYE.

>> ALL RIGHT. MOTION CARRIES FOR FIRST READING.

WE'LL BRING THOSE BACK TO THE NEXT BOARD MEETING IN APRIL.

THAT MOVES US DOWN TO SECTION 10.

[10. POLICY REVIEW - Second Reading and Adoption]

THIS IS POLICY REVIEW FOR SECOND READING AND ADOPTION.

THESE WERE THE ONES WE APPROVED FOR FIRST READING LAST MONTH.

THERE HAVE NOT BEEN ANY CHANGES TO THESE SINCE, SO I'M NOT GOING TO GO THROUGH EACH OF THESE ONE AT A TIME.

I WOULD JUST LOOK FOR A MOTION AND A SECOND TO APPROVE THESE FOR SECOND READING AND ADOPTION.

>> I MOVE TO APPROVE POLICIES AS PRESENTED FOR SECOND READING AND ADOPTION.

>> I SECOND THAT.

>> IT'S MOVED BY ERICA, SECONDED BY BOMINI.

ANY FURTHER DISCUSSION? ALL THOSE IN FAVOR?

>> AYE.

>> MOTION CARRIES. GREAT. ALL RIGHT.

[11. REPORTS]

BOY, WE'VE BEEN WAITING FOR ALMOST AN HOUR-AND-A-HALF FOR THE SUPERINTENDENT'S REPORT.

LET'S HEAR IT, DR. ANZALONE.

>> ALL RIGHT. THAT'D BE GOOD.

>> ALL RIGHT.

WELL, GAIL PUTS THAT UP.

THANK YOU, GAIL. JUST A LOT OF CELEBRATIONS, AND THANK YOU FOR ALL THE THOUGHTFULNESS TONIGHT.

OBVIOUSLY, THE COMMON LIT PRESENTATION WAS REALLY MEANINGFUL AND I REALLY LIKE THAT YOU NOTICED THAT TIMELINE AND THE THOUGHTFULNESS THAT WENT BEHIND THAT.

THAT'S EXCITING.

I ALWAYS LIKE TO START OFF WITH OUR ENROLLMENT UPDATE.

[01:30:06]

THIS IS AS OF MARCH 15TH, SO JUST A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO.

OUR FTE COUNT WAS 6944.

THAT'S A DROP OFF OF ABOUT EIGHT STUDENTS FROM THE PREVIOUS MONTH.

PRETTY TYPICAL AROUND THIS TIME.

OBVIOUSLY, WE NEVER LIKE TO SEE ANY, BUT IT'S NOT ABNORMAL.

SECONDARY STUDENTS ARE JUST OVER 4,000, AND ELEMENTARY JUST UNDER 3,000, A LOSS OF SIX STUDENTS AT THE ELEMENTARY LEVEL.

A LITTLE BIT MORE AT THE ELEMENTARY LEVEL THAN THE SECONDARY.

AT OUR HIGH SCHOOL, WE'RE CONTINUING TO SEE GROWTH AT CCA.

OBVIOUSLY THAT HAS A COUPLE OF TENTACLES TO IT.

ONE IS THAT IT'S A GROWING PROGRAM AND WE'RE MARKETING THAT PROGRAM TO STUDENTS.

BUT ALSO YOU'RE ALWAYS GOING TO SEE THAT AROUND THIS TIME OF YEAR AS STUDENTS FROM CAMAS HIGH SCHOOL AND ARE LOOKING FOR OTHER OPPORTUNITIES FOR CREDIT RECOVERY AND THINGS LIKE THAT.

WE SAW MOST OF THOSE STUDENTS, AGAIN, THIS IS PRETTY TYPICAL, THAT THOSE STUDENTS ARE MOSTLY COMING FROM OUR COMPREHENSIVE HIGH SCHOOL AS WE'RE GETTING CLOSE TO THE END OF THE YEAR AND KIDS ARE IN A CREDIT CRUNCH AND THINGS LIKE THAT.

DISCOVERY STAYS PRETTY STABLE.

IT LOST THREE OVER THE MONTH, BUT WE'RE STILL CONTINUING TO SEE THAT GROWTH AT HAYES FREEDOM.

KUDOS TO THE TEAM THERE FOR BEING SUCH A GREAT OPTION FOR KIDS.

MIDDLE SCHOOL, RATHER STABLE THROUGHOUT.

A LITTLE BIT OF A DROP OFF AT THREE OF OUR FOUR MIDDLE PROGRAMS, BUT AGAIN, FOR THIS TIME OF YEAR THAT'S NOT ABNORMAL.

THEN ELEMENTARY, NO REAL ANOMALIES THERE.

WOODBURN, UNFORTUNATELY, STILL CONTINUES TO SEE A LITTLE DROP OFF.

AGAIN, SOME TRANSIENCY IN THAT AREA.

WHAT WE'RE CONTINUING TO HEAR IS FAMILIES THAT ARE FINDING JOBS ELSEWHERE, ESPECIALLY IN THIS TOUGH HOUSING MARKET.

AGAIN, THIS HAS BEEN ABOUT THE SAME TREND THAT WE'VE SEEN OVER THE COURSE OF THIS SCHOOL YEAR.

>> YEAH. THAT IS INTERESTING, THAT WOODBURN WE'VE SEEN THE LAST COUPLE OF MONTHS, A LITTLE BIT OF A DECLINE THERE.

>> YEAH. TALKING TO MR. PARMAN, IT SEEMS TO BE THE SAME STORY.

THERE'S NOT ISSUES AT THE SCHOOL.

THEIR FAMILIES ARE NOT SEEMING TO BE UNHAPPY.

IT'S JUST JOB OPPORTUNITIES, AND PRIMARILY OUT OF STATE JOB OPPORTUNITIES.

IT JUST HAPPENS TO BE THE MARKET RIGHT NOW.

WOODBURN JUST SEEMS TO GET HIT THE HARDEST IN THAT PARTICULAR NEIGHBORHOOD.

BUT I LOVE THE FACT THAT OUR PRINCIPALS ARE USING SIMILAR EXIT SURVEYS NOW, AND WE HAVE SOME CONSISTENCY THERE.

OUR PRINCIPALS ARE DIGGING INTO THOSE EXIT INTERVIEWS AND THAT DATA, AND HAVING CONVERSATIONS WITH FAMILIES, IF POSSIBLE, AS THEY'RE WITHDRAWING FROM OUR SCHOOLS.

WE'RE COLLECTING THAT DATA.

THE INTERESTING THING ABOUT THAT IS IT'S SUCH A CASE BY CASE DEAL, AND IT'S HARD TO REALLY PINPOINT WHY, WE'RE HAPPY TO HEAR THAT IT'S NOT DISSENSION ABOUT THE SCHOOL OR THE CAMAS SCHOOL DISTRICT, IT'S JUST MORE ABOUT FAMILY NEEDS.

>> I WANT TO SAY THANK YOU TO OUR PRINCIPALS TOO, FOR HAVING THOSE CONVERSATIONS THAT'S ABOUT RELATIONSHIPS.

WE HEARD THIS YEAR THAT THE LEGISLATURE WANTED TO MANDATE EXIT INTERVIEWS, AND THAT JUST SEEMS SO ODD TO US BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT WE DO.

IT'S A COMMON PRACTICE.

WE DON'T NEED A MANDATE ABOUT IT.

I JUST APPRECIATE THAT OUR PRINCIPALS ARE AWARE, OUR STAFF IS AWARE.

WE JUST CONTINUE THOSE CONVERSATIONS BECAUSE IT JUST MAKES US BETTER AND MORE AWARE IF THERE'S SOMETHING THAT DOESN'T HAVE TO DO WITH ECONOMICS AND FAMILIES OUTSIDE OF SCHOOL.

>> RIGHT. I THINK IT'S ALSO HOMAGE TO THE RELATIONSHIPS THAT OUR TEACHERS, OUR PARENTS, ALL OF OUR EDUCATORS HAVE WITH THEIR FAMILIES.

THEY SEEM TO KNOW A LOT OF THESE THINGS THAT ARE HAPPENING WELL BEFORE THEY ACTUALLY GO DOWN.

THE PRINCIPALS REALLY DO HAVE THOSE RELATIONSHIPS BUT THEY'RE COLLECTING THAT DATA.

IT'S A JOINT EFFORT.

AGAIN, WE'LL LEARN AS MUCH AS WE CAN FROM THIS DATA, BUT SO MUCH OF IT IS CASE BY CASE.

ANY OTHER QUESTIONS ABOUT ENROLLMENT? I WISH I HAD A LITTLE BIT BETTER NEWS, BUT IT'S APROPOS FOR THIS TIME OF YEAR.

OKAY. STARTING OFF WITH SOME CELEBRATIONS.

AS ALWAYS, OUR ROTARY CELEBRATED OUR SOPHOMORE OF THE MONTH.

THE STUDENT, ELLA INMAN, WAS CELEBRATED FROM CAMAS HIGH SCHOOL.

HER TEACHER WAS ABLE TO BE THERE TO RECOGNIZE HER, BRIGHT AND EARLY AT 07:00 AM.

I ALWAYS MENTION THAT BECAUSE I'M UP THERE TOO.

ONE DAY WE'RE GOING TO HAVE TO PASS A VOTE TO DELAY THAT A LITTLE BIT, BUT REALLY HAPPY FOR ELLA.

SHE WAS A LITTLE SHY UP THERE, BUT SHE DID A REALLY GREAT JOB.

RON IS SUCH A GOOD PRESIDENT TO HAVE BECAUSE HE WAS A FORMER PRINCIPAL, AND SO HE ALWAYS KNOWS HOW TO GET

[01:35:01]

THE CONVERSATION GOING WITH THE KIDS AND GET THEM OUT OF THEIR SHELL.

I ALSO WANT TO CELEBRATE THREE CAMAS HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS, RAFA, MAILE AND AARAV, WHO ARE FINALISTS AND SEMIFINALISTS FOR THE VERY HIGHLY COMPETITIVE NATIONAL MERIT SCHOLARSHIP.

THIS IS HUGE NEWS.

WE'RE EXCITED TO SAY THAT THE TRADITION OF MANDARIN IS CONTINUING, AND THIS SUMMER, RAFA AND MAILE WILL STUDY MANDARIN FOR SEVEN WEEKS IN TAIWAN, FOLLOWING AARON'S TRADITION FROM LAST YEAR.

REALLY AWESOME CELEBRATION FOR THESE STUDENTS.

THIS WAS MENTIONED EARLIER.

I WAS SO HAPPY THAT SIMONE WAS HERE BECAUSE THIS CONFERENCE REALLY KNOCKED MY SOCKS OFF IN A BIG WAY.

THERE WAS A GREAT COMBINATION OF FUN AND EXCITEMENT ALONG WITH REALLY DEEP THINKING AND CRITICAL CONVERSATIONS.

WHAT I LOVE ABOUT IT IS MS. [INAUDIBLE] WAS OBVIOUSLY ONE OF THE ADVISORS.

SHE COLLECTED A LOT OF THAT DATA AND IS NOT JUST BRINGING IT BACK TO US AS A CABINET, BUT TO OUR PRINCIPALS, AND HOPEFULLY AT ONE POINT, TO YOU AS A BOARD.

BECAUSE I THINK THAT ONE OF THE THINGS, AND KATIE, YOU SAID IT BEST ON FRIDAY TO THE STUDENTS WAS, THESE CONVERSATIONS ARE NOT GOING TO FALL ON DEAF EARS.

WE'RE TAKING THIS TO PEOPLE WHO ARE DECISION MAKERS AND WILL HELP.

A LOT OF IT HAD TO DO WITH BELONGING AND WELCOMING.

SOME THINGS THAT KIDS HAVE HAD TO DEAL WITH IN THE COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT, THAT WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT OTHERS HAVE BETTER EXPERIENCES.

FOR THE MOST PART, IT WAS EXTREMELY POSITIVE, GREAT EXPERIENCES.

BUT WE ALSO WANT TO MAKE SURE WE'RE RECOGNIZING THAT NOT EVERYBODY'S EXPERIENCE HAS BEEN PERFECT.

KATIE, THANK YOU FOR THAT, AND SHAWNA, CAN'T THANK HER ENOUGH FOR HER LEADERSHIP.

I WISH SHE WAS HERE TONIGHT.

I THINK SHE HAD TO TAKE A VACATION AFTER THIS, BUT WE'LL BE SEEING HER SOON.

I ALSO WANT TO POINT OUT MCKENZIE AND JEFF WHO BROUGHT MICA, AND REALLY SHARED MICA'S STORY.

I KNOW MOST OF YOU KNOW THE STORY, BUT IT WAS UNBELIEVABLE HEARING IT FROM THE BIG SISTER'S POINT OF VIEW.

ONE OF THE TAKEAWAYS FOR ME WAS HOW MUCH BETTER PEOPLE THEIR FAMILY HAS BECOME BECAUSE OF MICA.

I LOVE ONE THING JEFF SAID WAS THAT MICA HAS BEEN A GIFT TO THE FAMILY BECAUSE IT'S NOT JUST MADE THEM BETTER PEOPLE, BUT EVERYBODY WHO COMES IN CONTACT WITH MICA BECOMES BETTER PEOPLE BECAUSE IT'S HARD NOT TO EMBRACE HIM AND SMILE AND JUST BE YOUR BEST SELF.

REALLY GOOD KEYNOTE THERE.

MICA WAS AWESOME.

HE WAS EXCITED TO BE THERE, AND THEY ALSO SHARED THE BOOKS THAT ARE NOW IN ALL OF OUR ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS.

I LOVE THE POINT WHEN, I BELIEVE IT WAS [INAUDIBLE] STUDENT SAID, "HEY, ARE WE GOING TO GET THESE BOOKS IN OUR MIDDLE SCHOOLS? JEFF GRABBED ONE OF THE BOOKS AND SAID, YOU DO NOW." IT WAS LIKE, OKAY, BOOM.

WE MIGHT GET A BILL FOR THAT, I DON'T KNOW.

I PROBABLY WILL, BUT IT WAS AN AWESOME EVENT.

KATIE, AGAIN, THANK YOU FOR YOUR LEADERSHIP AND THESE KIDS WERE ABSOLUTELY AWESOME.

THIS IS THE LARGE GROUP RIGHT OUTSIDE OF ZACH AT THE END.

I COULDN'T HAVE ASKED FOR MORE COLLABORATION, MORE PROBLEM SOLVING, AND OF COURSE, FELLOWSHIP.

YOU COULD SEE THE KIDS WEARING THEIR SHIRTS.

I MIGHT HAVE TO GET YOU GUYS SHIRTS NOW. ERICA?

>> LOVE IT. WHEN WILL WE GET TO HEAR THAT FEEDBACK? I'M SO EXCITED TO READ IT AND DIGEST IT.

>> I'LL SPEAK JUST BECAUSE I TALKED TO KATIE EARLIER ABOUT THIS.

SHE WAS AT CABINET TODAY, AND SHE'S COMPILING THE POST ITS INTO NOTES AS WE SPEAK.

YOU'RE THINKING MAYBE BY NEXT MEETING, OR A WORKSHOP, OR I DON'T KNOW.

WE COULD PROBABLY DISCUSS THAT.

>> [INAUDIBLE]

>> YEAH.

>> YEAH, I THINK WE'D LIKE TO, EVENTUALLY, HERE IN THE SPRING, DO A WORKSHOP JUST ON SAC AND IN GENERAL TOO, AND SO THAT'D BE GOOD DATA TO LOOK AT.

>> NO, I APPRECIATE THAT. I KNOW THE KIDS ARE EXCITED TO TALK WITH YOU MORE, AND COREY, I THINK YOU MENTIONED IT EARLIER, IS TO TALK ABOUT THE FUTURE AND MORE OF WHAT THE BOARD WOULD LIKE TO SEE.

THEY'RE CHOMPING AT THE BIT TO TALK TO YOU.

THIS WAS EARLIER THIS MONTH. THIS IS AWESOME.

PREVIOUSLY CALLED FINE DINING WITH CHARTWELLS.

NOW THEIR PROGRAM IS CALLED AT YOUR SERVICE, AND THIS IS US DOING A TOAST.

I DON'T KNOW IF I WAS WRONG TO TEACH THEM HOW TO DO A TOAST, BUT THEY SEEM TO KNOW HOW TO DO IT.

THESE KIDS HAD SUCH AN AWESOME TIME.

IT'S SO NEAT EVERY YEAR TO SEE THE PARENTS ACTUALLY PROVIDING THE SERVICE TO THE STUDENTS AND JUST RUNNING AROUND TREATING THEM LIKE GOLD.

IT'S JUST A SUPER COOL EVENT WHERE THE KIDS GET TO HAVE A THREE COURSE MEAL AND DRESS UP A LITTLE BIT, AND THEY GO TO THE SYMPHONY IN PORTLAND AND THEN COME BACK.

I'M JUST REALLY LUCKY TO BE A SMALL PART OF THAT EVENT.

[01:40:03]

>> JUMP IN JUST REALLY QUICKLY.

IT'S FUNNY HOW TIMES HAVE CHANGED BECAUSE BACK IN THE DAY WE WOULD BE INVITED AND THE STUDENTS WOULD SERVE THEIR PARENTS AND BOARD MEMBERS AND THEY WOULD MAKE SURE THAT THE PLAY SETTING WAS.

DO YOU GUYS REMEMBER THIS AT ALL IN ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS? IT'S TOTALLY COME FULL CIRCLE THAT NOW THE KIDS ARE NOT WINED, BUT DINED AND TREATED.

>> YEAH. THE PARENTS ARE SERVING THEM.

>> YES. WINED AND DINED?

>> YEAH. SORRY.

>> I LOVE THAT. JUICED AND DINED.

MOVING ON. PI DAY WAS REAL.

I WILL TELL YOU OVER AT DISCOVERY.

WHAT I LOVED ABOUT THIS EVENT, AND I MAY HAVE MENTIONED IT TO YOU BEFORE, IS THE INTEGRATION OF ODYSSEY AND DISCOVERY TOGETHER.

I LOVE THE FACT THAT DR. DAN AND HIS TEAM ARE BRINGING THE MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS OVER USING THE FACILITY, GETTING MORE FAMILIES INVOLVED.

THIS WAS ACTUALLY PUT ON BY THE PTO AND THEY DID AN AWESOME JOB.

THEY RAISED $4,000 I GUESS WHEN THEY REALIZED THEY WERE GOING TO GET TO PUT A PIE IN THE SOUP'S FACE AS WELL AS THE PRINCIPAL.

THE MONEY JUST KEPT ROLLING IN. WELL, YEAH.

ORIGINALLY HE WAS SUPPOSED TO BE ABOUT TEN FEET BACK AND HE GOT PRETTY CLOSE.

MY MAIN THING WAS MY HAIR.

IT GOT IN MY HAIR, AND I DIDN'T LIKE THAT VERY MUCH.

BUT NOW DAN AND I WERE HAPPY TO DO IT.

THEN I HAD TO GET GO INTO A MEETING.

BUT THEN I FOUND OUT LATER THAT DAN GOT TO REPAY A LITTLE BIT AND HAD THE PTO MEMBER SITTING IN THE SEAT.

I'LL MAKE SURE NEXT YEAR I STAY A LITTLE LONGER.

YEAH. GREAT FUNDRAISER FOR DISCOVERY.

OVER $4,000 RAISED.

I ALSO HAD AN OPPORTUNITY TO GO TO CASCADIA TECH AS THE AREA SUPERINTENDENTS, AND I GET TO DO EVERY MONTH.

WE VISITED THE AVIATION PROGRAM AS WELL AS A COUPLE OTHERS, BUT THIS ONE STOOD OUT TO ME.

THESE KIDS ARE AWESOME.

THESE ARE BOTH STUDENTS FROM CAMAS HIGH SCHOOL AND HAYES IN CAMAS.

THEY WERE JUST SUPER COOL.

THEY LET ALL THE SUPERINTENDENTS TRY TO LAND THE PLANE.

I DID LAND THE PLANE, BUT I TOOK OUT A ROW OF LIGHTS, SO A COUPLE OF THE STOPS ENDED UP IN THE WATER.

I WAS HAPPY I LANDED ON THE GROUND, BUT THEY WERE LAUGHING AT ME THAT I DARKENED THE RUNWAY A BIT.

BUT AWESOME KIDS, GREAT PROGRAM.

ONE OF THE THINGS THAT STOOD OUT TO ME WAS THE FACT THAT THE STUDENT WHO GOES TO HAYES, COMPLIMENTED THE SCHEDULE AT HAYES AND HOW IT'S SO ACCOMMODATING SO HE CAN ACTUALLY FINISH HIS DAY AT CASCADIA AND GET OVER TO HAYES AND NOT MISS A BEAT.

IT'S SOMETHING THAT WE CAN LEARN FROM.

THIS WAS THE DOROTHY FOX WAX MUSEUM, SUPER COOL DAY.

THE KIDS ACTUALLY DRESSED UP.

THEY WROTE BIOGRAPHIES.

THEY DRESSED UP AS THEIR CHARACTER.

THERE WAS EVERYTHING FROM NEIL ARMSTRONG TO AMELIA EARHART TO JACKIE ROBINSON.

I THINK THE STUDENT NEXT TO HIM WAS JESSE JAMES.

I THOUGHT THAT WAS PRETTY NEAT TOO.

THEN AS YOU STEPPED ON THE LITTLE PLATE THAT ACTIVATED THE WAX FIGURE.

I WAS PLAYING AROUND AND STOMPING ON IT OVER AND OVER AND MAKING THEM START AND STOP A LOT.

THEY WERE LAUGHING AT THAT, BUT REALLY COOL EVENT.

THANK YOU DR. SHARK.

I THINK SHE WAS HERE EARLIER FOR PUTTING THIS ON AND GETTING THE KIDS TO LEARN, THESE ARE ONLY SECOND GRADERS AND THEY WERE KNOCKING IT OUT OF THE PARK WITH THEIR PRESENTATION SKILLS.

THEN THAT DAY, I LOVE GOING TO TTK AND VISITING MS WOLF'S CLASS.

THESE FOUR-YEAR-OLDS ARE JUST, THE DATA IS OUT OF THIS WORLD, WITH HOW THESE KIDS ARE PROGRESSING EARLY ON IN KINDERGARTEN.

CAN'T SAY ENOUGH ABOUT ALLYAH AND THE JOB THAT HER AND HER TEAM ARE DOING OVER AT GRASS VALLEY.

HOPING WE CAN EXPAND THIS PROGRAM DOWN THE ROAD.

BUT THESE STUDENTS JUST ABSOLUTELY MAKE ME MELT.

I DON'T KNOW HOW TEACHERS WORK WITH THIS AGE GROUP EVERY DAY AND NOT WANT TO JUST SQUEEZE THEIR CHEEKS. I LOVE IT.

I GOT TO READ HUNGRY CATERPILLAR, WHICH THEY KNEW ALREADY.

SO THEY WERE HELPING ME READ THROUGH IT.

AWESOME DAY.

KUDOS TO THAT PROGRAM, AND WHAT SEAN AND RYAN ARE LEADING THERE WITH ALLYAH.

THEN, OF COURSE, I KNOW SOME OF YOU MENTIONED THE BOARD SITE VISITS.

JUST A COUPLE SHOTS FROM THAT DAY.

YOU SEE COREY. NOW, YOU SAID, I STRUGGLED WITH THE MATH.

I THOUGHT COREY WAS STRUGGLING A LITTLE BIT WITH THE LETTERS TRAINING THERE.

NO, I'M JUST KIDDING. YOU DID A GREAT JOB.

THIS WAS A LACAMAS ON THE LEFT, CAMAS HIGH SCHOOL IN THE MIDDLE.

I THINK THAT WAS ALSO LACAMAS ON THE FAR RIGHT.

I FORGOT TO GET A SHOT AT WOODBURN, SO I'LL PROBABLY HEAR FROM MR. PARMAN ABOUT THAT.

BUT YOU SEE OUR BOARD MEMBERS, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR BEING THERE.

THREE DIFFERENT SCHOOLS. BOOM, BOOM, BOOM.

IT WAS A GREAT MORNING AFTERNOON.

THAT WAS US IN THE CULINARY PROGRAM THERE THAT WAS MENTIONED EARLIER.

JUST WANTED TO HIGHLIGHT THAT GREAT DAY.

WHAT A NICE WAY TO SPEND SOME TIME TOGETHER.

[01:45:02]

MOVING ON TO THE LITTLE MORE SERIOUS BUSINESS, THE LEGISLATIVE WRAP UP.

JASON'S GOING TO HIT THIS A LITTLE BIT MORE IN HIS BUDGET REPORT, BUT I JUST WANTED TO GIVE A COUPLE QUICK HIGHLIGHTS.

AS YOU KNOW, WITH A SHORT SESSION, IT'S NOT GOING TO BE AN OVERWHELMING AMOUNT OF FUNDING.

WE WEREN'T EXPECTING THAT.

BUT I WILL SAY WE'RE SEEING SOME MOVEMENT IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION.

I THINK, ERICA, TO YOUR EARLIER POINT, OUR COMMUNITY IN CAMAS I THINK IS REALLY LEADING THE WAY.

SOME MIGHT SAY WE'RE SMALL AND MIGHTY BECAUSE WITH OUR LEGISLATIVE ADVOCACY COMMITTEE, BUT ALSO THE RELATIONSHIPS THAT WE'RE CONTINUING TO BUILD WITH OUR LEGISLATORS.

I REALLY THINK WE'RE MAKING SOME PROGRESS.

I KNOW WE'RE MAKING PROGRESS.

OUR VOICES ARE BEING HEARD.

WE'RE NOT GOING TO STOP.

WE AS A SUPERINTENDENT GROUP, BUT ALSO AS A COMMUNITY, WE FEEL THAT NEXT SESSION STARTED YESTERDAY, THAT 2025 IS ALREADY HERE, AND WE NEED TO CONTINUE TO PUT OUR FOOT ON THE GAS PEDAL.

WE SAW ABOUT 71 $72,000,000 TOWARDS THE PROTOTYPICAL MODEL.

SO THAT'S STATEWIDE.

WE'LL SEE A LITTLE BIT OF THAT HERE IN CAMAS, BUT IT'S NOTHING COMPARED TO WHAT WE NEED TO REALLY ADEQUATELY FUND EDUCATION.

WE KNOW THAT SPECIAL EDUCATION CONTINUES TO BE ON THE FOREFRONT.

THANKFULLY, AGAIN, JUST A LITTLE BIT OF MOVEMENT IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION.

WE'RE HOPING ON A MUCH MORE COMMITMENT FROM OUR LEGISLATORS NEXT SESSION.

THIS WAS REALLY GOOD NEWS.

MSOC FUNDING HAD SOME MOVEMENT ABOUT $23 A STUDENT.

AGAIN, IT'S A DROP IN THE BUCKET TO WHAT WE REALLY NEED SO THAT WE AREN'T SO LEVY DEPENDENT.

I THINK THIS SESSION WAS AGAIN, PLANTING THE SEED FOR NEXT SESSION.

I STEAL THAT FROM MY COLLEAGUE DEREK, WHO SAID, THIS IS JUST REALLY PLANTING THE SEEDS.

BY THE TIME WE GET TO 2025, OUR VOICES ARE GOING TO BE AMPLIFIED.

WE ALSO SAW SOME ADDITIONS IN COMMUNITY ELIGIBILITY PROVISIONS AND TRANSPORTATION.

BUT KEEP IN MIND THOSE ARE AUTOMATICS, THOSE ARE ALREADY BUILT INTO LEGISLATION.

I KNOW THAT LOOKS LIKE MORE FUNDING WAS ADDED, EDUCATION, WHEN REALLY THOSE WERE JUST CARRYOVERS.

IT'S REALLY THOSE TOP THREE AREAS THAT WERE REALLY PRIORITIES GOING INTO THE SESSION AND IT'S OBVIOUS THAT OUR LEGISLATORS ARE LISTENING TO US.

LET'S KEEP OUR FOOT ON THE GAS.

LIKE I SAID, I LOVE THE FACT THAT THE BOARD IS SUPPORTING THIS LEGISLATIVE ADVOCACY THAT WE'RE DOING TO ERICA'S POINT.

THE PARENTS ARE PASSIONATE.

THE STAFF IS PASSIONATE AND WE'RE REALLY MOBILIZING IN A BIG WAY.

SO REALLY PROUD OF THIS COMMUNITY.

WE'RE GOING TO KEEP PUSHING.

I SHOULD PROBABLY ASK QUESTIONS ON THAT.

LIKE I SAID, JASON WILL HIT THIS A LITTLE BIT MORE IN HIS BUDGET REPORT.

I DO WANT TO POINT OUT THIS SLIDE THAT I FROM DAN STEELE, WHO'S ONE OF OUR LIAISONS WITH LEGISLATION.

THIS IS PRETTY TELLING THAT AS THE YEARS HAVE GONE ON, WE'VE SEEN A DROP OFF IN HOW MUCH OF THE STATE'S BUDGET ACTUALLY IS ALLOCATED TOWARDS EDUCATION.

THAT'S A LITTLE SCARY TO THINK ABOUT.

AS YOU KNOW, OUR STATE CONSTITUTION STATES THAT WE NEED TO BE THE PARAMOUNT DUTY.

BUT YET 43% IS NOT NECESSARILY PARAMOUNT DUTY IN MANY OF OUR OPINIONS.

THIS IS SOMETHING THAT I THINK OUR LEGISLATIVE TEAM WANTS TO POINT OUT TO OUR LEGISLATORS.

HOW DO WE WORK TOGETHER TO GARNISH MORE SUPPORT AND RISE UP THE PRIORITY LIST? WE ARE NOT DISCOUNTING THE FACT THAT OPIOID EPIDEMIC AND HOMELESSNESS AND PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION AND ALL THESE ISSUES ARE ISSUES.

BUT WE ALSO FEEL MANY OF US IN EDUCATION, THAT WE CAN HELP WITH SOME OF THESE PROBLEMS AT OUR LEVEL, IF WE WERE ADEQUATELY FUNDED.

WE CAN POTENTIALLY PROTECT KIDS FROM GETTING INTO THESE REALMS THAT WE WANT TO AVOID.

AGAIN, WE'D LOVE TO SEE THAT NUMBER INCREASE AND GET BACK UP TO THAT 50, 51, 52% THAT IT ONCE WAS.

QUESTIONS, COMMENTS THERE? A LITTLE BIT MORE OF WHAT WE'RE DOING AS A LEGISLATIVE ADVOCACY COMMITTEE.

SOME NEXT STEPS.

AS ERICA SAID, WE'RE MEETING AGAIN ON APRIL 15TH.

I LOVE IT BECAUSE I WAS THINKING THAT THE COMMITTEE WANTED TO WRAP IT UP FOR THE YEAR AND THEY'RE LIKE, NO, WE JUST WANT TO RAMP IT UP AND I'M LIKE, LET'S DO IT.

APRIL 15TH, WE'LL BE BACK TOGETHER.

I BELIEVE OUR PRIORITY IS GOING TO BE THAT LIST.

WORKING ON COLLABORATIVE WAYS TO GET UP THE LIST.

A LOT OF THAT'S GOING TO BE JUST CONTINUING TO BUILD THOSE RELATIONSHIPS WITH OUR LEGISLATORS.

THE MORE THAT WE'RE IN THEIR EAR AND PROVIDE EXAMPLES, THE MORE WE'RE GOING TO SEE THE MOVEMENT IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION.

AGAIN, KUDOS TO DEREK AND OTHERS WHO HAVE THOSE BUILT RELATIONSHIPS.

THOSE THINGS TAKE TIME, THOSE RELATIONSHIPS TAKE TIME, THEY DON'T HAPPEN OVERNIGHT.

[01:50:03]

AGAIN, I APPRECIATE THE LEGISLATIVE COMMITTEE THAT WANTS TO KEEP THEIR FOOT ON THIS.

WE ARE ALSO ORGANIZING AS A REGION.

I'M REALLY HAPPY THAT OUR SUPERINTENDENTS HAVE COMMITTED TO ALSO ORGANIZING.

THE NUMBER THAT WE HAVE IN MIND IS OVER $1 BILLION.

THAT IS THE REQUEST FROM THE STATE.

AGAIN, THAT'S REALLY THE ONLY WAY THAT WE'RE GOING TO SEE IN A COMMUNITY OUR SIZE, WE'RE GOING TO SEE BIG CHANGE IS BIG NUMBERS.

THESE LITTLE NUMBERS ARE WONDERFUL, BUT THEY'RE NOT GOING TO TURN THE DIAL.

AGAIN, I DO BELIEVE THAT OUR VOICES ARE BEING HEARD, AND THANK YOU TO THE BOARD AND SOME OF OUR LEGISLATIVE GROUP WHO WENT UP TO OLYMPIA, WE NEED TO KEEP THAT GOING AND PAYING ATTENTION TO OUR CANDIDACIES.

THERE'S A LOT OF RESIGNATIONS THAT ARE HAPPENING THIS UPCOMING SESSION.

THERE'S SOME MOVEMENT AND THERE'S ALSO SOME PEOPLE THAT ARE LOOKING FOR OTHER OFFICES.

WE NEED TO KEEP STAYING ATTENTION TO THAT.

WE'RE REALLY LUCKY THAT AGAIN, I'LL MENTION DEREK AND HE'S RE-UPPED HIS TIME WITH THE LEGISLATIVE COMMITTEE, SO IT'S REALLY NICE TO HAVE SOME BOOTS ON THE GROUND WITH THAT WORK.

THEN ENGAGE, ENGAGE, ENGAGE.

THIS REALLY CAN'T JUST BE A SUPERINTENDENT, OR A PRINCIPAL OR A TEACHER THING.

THAT I THINK HAS TO BE ALL OF US AS A COMMUNITY KEEPING OUR INTEREST IN THIS WORK.

I KNOW NOT EVERYBODY LOVES THIS WORK, BUT IT'S VITAL.

LASTLY, I JUST WANTED TO END WITH THIS.

AS A SUPERINTENDENT, I DON'T THINK A LOT OF PEOPLE ARE FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO CONSTANTLY HAVE THE PRIOR SUPERINTENDENTS RIGHT AT MY BACK AND CALL, WHETHER IT'S A CALL, A TEXT, A VISIT, A COFFEE, WHATEVER, AND TO HAVE MILT, JEFF, AND MIKE RIGHT THERE, STILL WORKING, DOING THE BUSINESS IS REALLY NEAT FOR ME, AND I'M LEARNING SO MUCH FROM THEM AND ABLE TO HAVE MY FINGERTIPS RIGHT THERE WITH THEM.

I JUST WANTED TO RECOGNIZE THEM.

THIS IS US AT OUR LAST SUPERINTENDENT MEETING, AND THEY'RE REALLY HAPPY.

MIKE FORCED US TO TAKE THE PICTURE THERE, BUT I WAS HAPPY TO DO IT.

WITH THAT SAID, THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONTINUED GUIDANCE AND SUPPORT.

I THINK WE'RE MOVING IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION.

>> COOL. ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS FOR JOHN?

>> I DID LOVE TO SEE THAT PICTURE.

I THINK WE HAVE A PRETTY SPECIAL AND UNIQUE GROUP OF PAST PREDECESSORS OF YOURS, JOHN.

THAT PICTURE IS REALLY SPECIAL.

WE'RE GOING TO NEED THAT ENLARGED AND FRAMED, AND PUT ON ITS DESK.

BUT GOOD TO SEE THEM, AND SEE YOU LEARNING FROM THEM.

IT'S AWESOME. THANK YOU.

>> IT'S AWESOME.

LET'S MOVE ON TO OUR MONTHLY BUDGET REPORT, AND JASEN MCEATHRON.

>> GOOD EVENING.

A TOUGH EVENING TO FOLLOW UKULELES AND STATE CHAMPIONS, AND WHAT HAVE YOU.

BUT MAYBE WE'LL HAVE THE NEXT CAITLIN CLARK, WHOSE TEAM IS PROBABLY GOING TO PULL IT OFF TONIGHT AGAINST WEST VIRGINIA, LOOKS LIKE.

I WANT TO TALK, AS JOHN MENTIONED, A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THE LEGISLATIVE SESSION.

I'LL GIVE YOU A BUDGET STATUS REPORT.

SOME ENCOURAGING NEWS, AND I WANT TO START WITH THAT, BECAUSE THE GLASS IS HALF FULL ON THIS SESSION AND THERE ARE SOME THINGS TO NOTE.

ELWAY DOES A POLL OF VOTER ISSUES PRIOR TO EVERY SESSION.

IT USUALLY HAPPENS EVERY FALL.

THIS IS THE 2024 LEGISLATIVE SESSION, ENDED MARCH 7TH.

GOING IN, IN THE 2023 ELWAY POLL, EDUCATION WAS AT THE BOTTOM.

THIS YEAR, IT'S MADE ITS WAY UP IN THESE OPENING MONTHS OF 2024.

HOPEFULLY, THAT'S A SIGN OF THE VOICES BEING HEARD AND IT BECOMING A HIGHER PRIORITY GOING INTO THAT NEXT SESSION.

I WOULD SAY THE SEED HAS BEEN PLANTED, IF YOU WILL.

LOOKING AT THIS YEAR, AND I'M JUST GOING TO QUICKLY RUN DOWN, THERE WERE FIVE PRIMARY AREAS WHERE WE TALKED ABOUT, IF YOU WILL, THE INVESTMENT IN K-12.

THERE'S WHAT THEY CALL MAINTENANCE LEVEL SPENDING, WHICH BASICALLY THEY'RE GOING TO SPEND THAT ANYWAYS ON K-12, AND THEN THERE'S POLICY LEVEL.

THEY CATEGORIZED, THIS WAS INTERESTING, FIVE DIFFERENT THINGS THAT THEY CONSIDERED POLICY LEVEL, WHICH NOT REALLY.

[01:55:05]

THE FIRST ONE, TRANSPORTATION, WE WERE GOING TO GET THAT MONEY ANYWAY.

THAT'S NOT NEW MONEY.

THEY WERE JUST MEETING THE OBLIGATION OF THE TRANSPORTATION FUNDING FORMULA.

THAT REALLY WAS NOT NEW MONEY.

WHAT WAS CALLED PARAEDUCATOR STAFFING ALLOCATION, I'M THINKING WE'LL GET ABOUT 100,000 OUT OF THAT.

KEEP IN MIND THAT'S NOT JUST PARAEDUCATORS, THIS INCLUDES OFFICE SUPPORT AS WELL.

THEN THE COMMUNITY ELIGIBILITY, WE'RE NOT GOING TO SEE ANY DOLLARS OUT OF THAT.

WE DON'T QUALIFY FOR THAT PARTICULAR PROGRAM.

THE MSOC ADJUSTMENT, I'M THINKING ABOUT 145,000.

THAT COMMON LIT CURRICULUM THAT LISA AND JOY JUST PRESENTED ON, WE JUST PAID FOR THAT.

IN EFFECT, NICE JOB ON THEIR PART TARGETING THAT.

THEN THE LAST PIECE OF SPECIAL EDUCATION, UNFORTUNATELY, WHILE IT IS AN INVESTMENT IN SPED, WE'RE NOT GOING TO SEE A DIME OF THAT.

THE CHANGES TO THE FORMULA JUST DON'T BENEFIT CAMAS SCHOOL DISTRICT.

>> SORRY, THAT'S BASICALLY BECAUSE WE TYPICALLY FALL UNDER THAT CAP, RIGHT?

>> YEAH. THEY ADJUSTED THE CAP THAT WE WERE ALREADY BELOW.

THEY JUST INCREASED THE CAP.

LOOKING BACK, I WOULD SAY IF I HAD TO SUMMARIZE, WE'RE ABOUT A QUARTER MILLION DOLLARS IN ADDITIONAL ENHANCED FUNDING FOR CAMAS SCHOOL DISTRICT.

NOT A LOT FROM AN ANNUALIZED PERSPECTIVE.

WE'LL SAY THEY DID FRONT LOAD SOME OF THESE CHANGES.

WE'LL SEE, AGAIN, SOME MONEY AT THE END OF OUR FISCAL YEAR.

I'M EXPECTING ABOUT A QUARTER MILLION DOLLARS.

NOT GOING TO CHANGE DRAMATICALLY OUR DEFICIT FOR THE END OF THE YEAR, BUT IT'LL HELP FOR SURE.

DEFINITELY APPRECIATIVE OF THAT.

THE OTHER THING I NOTED AT THE VERY BOTTOM, WE HAD GONE INTO SESSION AND EARLY BUDGET PROJECTIONS, WE WERE THINKING IPD WAS GOING TO BE 3.9%.

IT ENDED UP SETTLING ON 3.7.

A LITTLE BIT LOWER THAN WHAT THOSE INITIAL PROJECTIONS WERE GOING IN TO THE SESSION, AND COMING OUT AT 3.7, A LITTLE LOWER.

WE'RE GOING TO TAKE ALL THESE, PUT IT INTO, IF YOU WILL, THE BUDGET GRINDER, AS WE GET THESE DIFFERENT TOOLS FROM OSPI, AND THEY'LL BE RELEASING THOSE HERE REAL SOON.

I HAVE A MEETING WITH THEM LATER THIS WEEK AND I'M EXPECTING THEM TO START TO LAY OUT WHEN WE AS SCHOOL DISTRICTS CAN EXPECT SOME OF THESE REVENUE MODELS AND WHAT HAVE YOU TO COME OUT FROM THEM.

THEN WE'LL REALLY BE ABLE TO HONE IN ON HOW DID WE DO THIS SESSION.

THE MSOC IS A PRETTY SIMPLE CALCULATION.

THE PARA ONE IS A LITTLE BIT MORE NUANCED.

PROBABLY A LITTLE SOFTER ON THAT NUMBER.

ANY QUESTIONS ON THAT? WE DIDN'T REALLY TALK MUCH ABOUT THIS DURING THE SESSION, BECAUSE FRANKLY, WE WEREN'T REALLY GOING TO BENEFIT FROM THIS.

BUT I'D BE REMISS IF I DIDN'T MENTION THIS.

THIS IS PART OF THE REASON WHY I SAY THE GLASS IS A LITTLE BIT HALF FULL.

THE STATE OF WASHINGTON DID SOME REALLY GOOD THINGS THIS SESSION WHEN IT COMES TO THE CONSTRUCTION OR CAPITAL FUNDING FOR SCHOOL DISTRICTS, AND PARTICULARLY SMALL DISTRICTS.

THEY PUT SOME MONEY IN.

NOW YOU'LL SEE THIS TOP LINE CONSTRUCTION ASSISTANCE PROGRAM, SOME OF THAT MATCH MONEY THAT WE GOT IN OUR LAST BOND.

THEY DIDN'T TAKE MONEY AWAY.

THIS JUST REPRESENTS THERE'S FEWER BONDS BEING PASSED RIGHT NOW ACROSS THE STATE.

THEY'RE BASICALLY ARE FUNDING THAT DOWN.

BUT THOSE SECOND LINES OF THE SMALL DISTRICT MODERNIZATION AND SCAP ENHANCEMENT IS SO HUGE FOR SO MANY SMALL DISTRICTS ACROSS THE STATE THAT STRUGGLE TO HAVE QUALITY FACILITIES.

IT'S ONE OF THE BIGGEST INEQUITIES IN THIS STATE.

IT'S NOT TALKED A LOT ABOUT, UNLESS YOU'RE IN WAHKIAKUM, WHO THEY REALLY BEAT THIS DRUM.

KUDOS TO THE LEGISLATURE FOR RESPONDING TO THAT.

THOSE DISTRICTS REALLY DID NEED TO SEE THAT.

DOWN THE ROAD WHEN WE DO GO OUT FOR OUR NEXT BOND, I HOPE THIS CONTINUED ENHANCEMENT IN STATE MATCH IS THERE.

BUT THEY'RE MAKING PROGRESS IN THAT DIRECTION.

THEN WITH THE CAPITAL, THEY ALWAYS HAVE A LOT OF VERY SPECIFIC PROGRAMS OR PROJECTS AND WHAT HAVE YOU, AND THAT'S WHAT THAT LAUNDRY LIST IS THERE.

[02:00:02]

I THINK IT WAS IT WAS GOOD PROGRESS.

LOOKING AHEAD TO NEXT YEAR, THIS IS A WASA LEGISLATIVE PLATFORM.

THEY HAVE OTHER PRIORITIES, BUT THESE ARE THE THREE MAJOR BUDGET PRIORITIES.

SPECIAL EDUCATION, PUPIL TRANSPORTATION, MSOC.

THREE VERY COMMON THEMES THAT WE'VE TALKED ABOUT, AND HOPEFULLY, WE'LL CONTINUE TO MAKE SOME INROADS IN THOSE AREAS.

I THINK THE SEEDS BEEN PLANTED IN ALL THREE OF THOSE FOR SURE.

ESPECIALLY TRANSPORTATION, THE SEEDS BEEN IN THE GROUND A WHILE. QUESTIONS? ONE OF THE BUDGET STATUS REPORT.

THE THEME TO TAKE AWAY IS SAFETY NET.

WHAT HAPPENED SINCE OUR LAST BUDGET STATUS REPORT IS THIS IS THE TIME OF YEAR THAT WE FILE FOR SPECIAL ED SAFETY NET.

BASICALLY, THE STATE PROVIDES, IF YOU WILL, A SAFETY NET FUNDING MECHANISM FOR REALLY HIGHER COST PROGRAMMING.

IT'S A VERY EXTENSIVE PROCESS, IT IS HIGHLY SCRUTINIZED.

WE WERE UNDER UTILIZING THIS FOR MANY YEARS AND ALAN FLECK WAS BROUGHT IN, OUR DIRECTOR OF SPECIAL EDUCATION, AND HE BASICALLY SINGLE HANDEDLY BROUGHT US UP TO CURRENT STANDARDS AND HAS REALLY FOCUSED ON, LET'S TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THIS PROGRAM AND MAXIMIZE IT.

HE'S TRULY RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS TRANSITION.

WHEN I FIRST CAME HERE, I THINK WE GOT MAYBE HALF A MILLION MAYBE OR 200,000 IN SAFETY NET.

FAST FORWARD, A NUMBER OF YEARS NOW, WE'RE LOOKING AT LIKE $2.3 MILLION IN SAFETY NET.

I WILL SAY THAT THAT IS ABOUT DOUBLE WHAT WE BUDGETED.

THAT WAS PRETTY SHOCKING.

WE JUST HAVE SOME EXPENSES THAT HAVE COME IN DURING THE LATTER HALF OF THIS YEAR, WE JUST DIDN'T ANTICIPATE.

KEEP IN MIND THIS IS TRULY ALL STUDENT NEED DRIVEN.

IT JUST DEPENDS ON THE TYPES OF NEEDS THAT NEED TO BE SERVED FOR THE STUDENTS THAT WE'RE SERVING FROM ONE YEAR TO THE NEXT.

WE HAVE SOME KIDDOS THAT REQUIRE SOME EXTENSIVE SERVICES.

WE'RE HAPPY TO PROVIDE THOSE, AND WE'RE HAPPY THAT THERE'S A SAFETY NET TO FALL BACK ON BECAUSE OTHERWISE THIS WOULD ONLY HIT ONE SIDE OF THE LEDGER, JUST THE EXPENDITURES, BUT IN THIS CASE, IT'S HITTING BOTH SIDES.

THEY FINISHED THE AWARDING PROCESS IN JULY, SO IT'S A VERY LENGTHY PROCESS.

THEY GO THROUGH TO AUDIT THIS.

ALAN IS A PRO DOES A WONDERFUL JOB MANAGING THAT, BUT IT'S THE SINGLE MOST SCRUTINIZED THING IN THE ENTIRE K-12 SYSTEM, IN MY OPINION.

IT IS SO INCREDIBLY DETAIL ORIENTED AND HE'S WONDERFUL WITH IT.

BECAUSE BASICALLY THE WATER LINE IS RAISING FOR THE EXPENDITURES AND REVENUES, THE DEFICIT REALLY HASN'T MOVED.

WE'RE STILL LOOKING AT ABOUT A $2.8 MILLION DEFICIT, EXPECT NO MAJOR CHANGE THERE.

IN THE MONTH OF FEBRUARY, THERE'S REALLY NOT MUCH TO REPORT IN SOME OF THE OTHER FUNDS.

WE'LL START TO SEE PROPERTY TAXES COME IN, OBVIOUSLY, IN THIS MONTH OF MARCH, AND THEN REAL HEAVY IN APRIL.

WE NEED TO PAY ATTENTION TO SOMETHING, WHILE OUR REVENUES AND EXPENDITURES INCREASED EQUALLY WITH SAFETY NET, WE'VE EATEN INTO THAT ADDED BUDGET CAPACITY THAT WE BUILT IN.

GOING INTO THIS YEAR, WHEN I PROVIDE THESE REPORTS, WE STRIP OUT ANY ADDED CAPACITY AND YOU'RE JUST GETTING THE RAW REAL NUMBERS OF WHAT WE BUDGETED AND WHAT WE'RE EXPECTING FOR EXPENDITURES.

WHAT WE'RE SEEING IS FOR THE FIRST TIME THIS YEAR, OUR EXPENDITURES ARE AHEAD OF OUR BUDGET, WE'RE GOING TO END UP HIGHER THAN OUR BUDGET.

WHAT THAT MEANS IS OF OUR ROUGHLY $2.5 MILLION CAPACITY, WE'VE USED ABOUT HALF OF THAT.

WE'RE ABOUT HALFWAY THROUGH THE YEAR.

THAT LEAVES US WITH ABOUT A 1% MARGIN AND SIX MONTHS TO GO.

THIS IS WHERE I LIKE TO BE IN AUGUST.

FRANKLY, I GET A YEAR END CLOSE AND WE CAN HAVE $1 MILLION IN FLUCTUATIONS AND STUFF.

[02:05:04]

I'M OKAY RIGHT NOW, BUT WE MAY NEED TO PIVOT AND CONSIDER A BUDGET EXTENSION SOMETIME THIS YEAR.

I WAS HOPING TO AVOID IT, TO BE HONEST.

WE KNEW THAT IT WAS GOING TO BE CLOSE AND WE'RE STILL OKAY.

IT'S OKAY TO SWEAT FOR A FEW MONTHS, IF YOU WILL, BUT IF WE GET TOO CLOSE TO THE END OF THE YEAR, I MAY HAVE TO REQUEST A BUDGET EXTENSION.

THAT IS A PROCESS THAT WE FILE WITH OSPI, THERE'S A RESOLUTION DOWN THE LINE.

>> WHEN YOU'RE SAYING YOU'RE HOPING TO AVOID IT, THAT'S WHY IT'S AN EXTENSIVE PROCESS?

>> WELL, YEAH, YOU COULD SAY, WE'RE 99% ACCURATE.

OR YOU GET TO THE END OF THE YEAR AND THEN SHOOT, WE COULD JUST BE OVER IT.

AND WHY ADD THAT STRESS WHEN YOU'RE TRYING TO PASS A FINAL BUDGET AND DURING THE SUMMER, IT'D BE MUCH BETTER TO PROBABLY DO IT IN THE SPRING IF WE WERE GOING TO.

I JUST WANT TO HIGHLIGHT THIS.

WE'RE CLOSE.

WE'VE BEEN THIS CLOSE ONCE BEFORE.

>> THAT BUDGET EXTENSION, WE WOULD BE RAISING OUR EXPENDITURE CAP THEN.

>> WE WOULD BE. FRANKLY, I HAVE NO REASON TO BELIEVE RIGHT NOW THAT WE WOULD GO OVER THE BUDGET AS IT STANDS.

WE ARE PROJECTING OVERALL TO STAY WITHIN THAT, IT'S JUST WE'RE DOWN TO 1% AND THAT'S PRETTY TIGHT.

ANY QUESTIONS ON THAT? I WON'T BELABOR IT.

WE TALK A LOT ABOUT SAFETY NET IN THESE OTHER SLIDES.

I DON'T TALK MUCH ABOUT THIS SLIDE ALWAYS, BUT WHEN I START TALKING ABOUT SPECIAL ED AND ITS GROWTH, YOU MAY NOT KNOW THIS, BUT RIGHT HERE [INAUDIBLE] IT'S A NUANCE, AND I JUST I WANTED TO TIE THOSE PIECES TOGETHER BECAUSE WE DON'T ALWAYS TALK ABOUT THESE GRAPHS AND SO I'D LIKE TO LOOP THAT BACK FOR YOU FOLKS.

ANY QUESTIONS?

>> ANYTHING FOR JASON? NO?

>> THANK YOU.

>> JASON, THANK YOU.

ITEM 12 A. UPDATE ON OUR STRATEGIC PLAN.

[12. OPEN AND EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION]

I KNOW THAT LISA WAS GOING TO BE THE LEAD PERSON ON THIS AGAIN, BUT JOHN'S GOING TO GO AHEAD AND PINCH IN ON THIS ONE.

>> HAPPY TO SUB IN.

I CAN'T REPLACE LISA BY ANY MEANS, BUT I'LL DO MY BEST.

I WANTED TO JUST TO BE CLEAR WITH THE BOARD THAT THIS IS NOT FOR AN ADOPTION AT THIS POINT.

REALLY, TONIGHT IS AN UPDATE AND HOPING TO HAVE A LITTLE BIT OF DISCUSSION ON WHERE WE ARE WITH THE PLAN.

I COULDN'T BE MORE EXCITED ABOUT THIS, AND LOOKING TO HAVE A ROADMAP FOR OUR FUTURE IS EXTREMELY EXCITING AND MOTIVATING.

BUT AGAIN, TONIGHT I JUST AM HOPING FOR YOUR SUPPORT IN MOVING THE WORK FORWARD SO WE CAN DO MORE COLLABORATION WITH OUR TEAM AND OUR STAKEHOLDERS AND TO ULTIMATELY HAVE A FINAL PRODUCT FOR YOU REALLY SOON.

I'LL TAKE YOU THROUGH, AND I MIGHT WANT TO GRAB THE CLICKER, ONE SECOND.

THROUGHOUT THE PROCESS, AND THIS IS A MULTI-YEAR PROCESS.

AS YOU KNOW, THE WORK REALLY STARTED BACK IN ABOUT 2020 UNDER SUPERINTENDENT SNELL, AND THEN THERE WAS SOME PAUSE IN THAT WORK WITH COVID, AND IT WAS EXCITING TO GET BACK TO THE WORK WHEN I CAME IN AND WE HAD OUR FOOT IN THE DOOR WITH THE WORK.

AND ONE OF THE THINGS THAT WAS REALLY IMPORTANT TO US WAS TO GET STUDENT INPUT, AND WE REACHED OUT TO AS MANY STUDENTS AS WE COULD.

THIS LITTLE ACRONYM HERE, SO WE'RE TEACHING OUR STUDENTS WELL, WITH ACRONYMS. THIS ONE REALLY STOOD OUT TO US AS SOMETHING WE HELD ONTO AS WE DID THIS WORK IS CREATE THE PROPER ENVIRONMENT,

[02:10:03]

ACKNOWLEDGE NEED FOR GROWTH, MAKE THE CHANGES, ADDRESS ADDITIONAL LEARNING AND SUCCESS IN ALL ASPECTS.

WE REALLY THOUGHT THIS WAS VERY THOUGHTFUL OF OUR STUDENTS.

SOME OF THIS, AND MOST OF THIS YOU'VE SEEN IN THE WORKSHOP, BUT THERE'S A COUPLE OF UPDATES HERE I WANT TO RUN BY YOU AND REALLY MAKE SURE THAT A LARGER AUDIENCE SEES THIS SO WE CAN ALL REALLY BE ON THE SAME PAGE.

LAST TIME WE MET DURING THE WORKSHOP, A LOT OF THESE CATEGORIES WERE GRAYED OUT BECAUSE WE WEREN'T QUITE THERE YET.

I'M HAPPY TO SHARE WITH YOU THAT SINCE WE LAST MET JUST TWO WEEKS AGO, WE'VE BEEN ABLE TO BOLD ALL OF THESE PIECES.

WITHIN YOUR PACKET THERE'S THE SUPERINTENDENT'S MESSAGE, MORE ABOUT WHO WE ARE, OUR VISION, MISSION AND VALUES, WHICH I'LL GO OVER.

ONE OF THE THINGS THAT WILL ANCHOR OUR WORK, AND I'M GLAD JOY IS STILL HERE AND SHE HIT ON THE PROFILE OF A GRADUATE AND I THINK THAT'S REALLY GOING TO BE OUR NORTHSTAR AS WE MOVE FORWARD.

THE OVERVIEW, PROBABLY THE MOST IMPORTANT DOCUMENT IN THIS WHOLE PACKET IS THE, AT A GLANCE, WHICH I'LL TALK ABOUT IN JUST A FEW.

EVENTUALLY, SOME MEASURES, OUR OPERATIONAL INFRASTRUCTURE, AND THEN A GLOSSARY.

THIS WILL ALL BE PART OF WHAT I WOULD CONSIDER OUR FINAL PACKAGE THAT WE'D LIKE TO HOPEFULLY GET YOUR ADOPTION ON IN THE WEEKS AHEAD SO WE CAN GET THIS COPIED AND PUBLICIZED TO ALL OUR COMMUNITY.

LOOKING AT OUR COMMITMENT, JUST TO REVIEW THIS, ONE OF THE THINGS THAT REALLY STANDS OUT TO ME HERE, AND I HOPE IT DOES FOR YOU TO WITHIN OUR COMMITMENT IS HOW STUDENT CENTERED THIS COMMITMENT IS.

ONE OF THE THINGS THAT STOOD OUT IN OUR WORK IS SEEING AND SERVING IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT TO THIS COMMUNITY, BUT THE PIECE THAT SEEMED TO COME UP MISSING IS WHAT HAPPENS IN THE MIDDLE OF THAT.

VALUING OUR STUDENTS, VALUING OUR COMMUNITY REALLY IS CRITICAL.

IN BETWEEN SEEING AND SERVING, VALUE WAS ADDED, SO OUR COMMITMENT TO THIS COMMUNITY IS WE WILL SEE VALUE AND SERVE EACH STUDENT, HELPING THEM TO LEARN AND GROW EACH DAY, AND PREPARING THEM FOR A FUTURE OF ENDLESS POSSIBILITIES.

WITHIN THAT, THE IDEA OF A FAMILY PARTNERSHIP STANDS OUT, RECOGNIZING THE IMPORTANCE OF OUR STRONG PARTNERSHIPS WITH OUR FAMILIES IN SUPPORTING THE EDUCATIONAL JOURNEY OF OUR KIDS.

ALSO WITHIN THIS IS WHAT I'VE BEEN MENTIONING OVER AND OVER, AND GOING BACK TO JOY'S PRESENTATION, IS THAT COLLEGIAL COLLABORATION, WHICH IS A HUGE PART OF WHAT OUR STRATEGIC PLAN WILL ULTIMATELY BE.

EVERY MEMBER OF OUR SCHOOL DISTRICT COMMUNITY, INCLUDING OUR EDUCATORS, OUR ADMINISTRATORS, OUR SUPPORT STAFF, AND VOLUNTEERS, WILL PLAY A VITAL ROLE IN THIS COMMITMENT.

THE SHARED RESPONSIBILITY, AGAIN, I TALKED ABOUT THE LEGISLATIVE ADVOCACY COMMITTEE AND SO MANY OF OUR OTHER GROUPS THAT SHARE THE RESPONSIBILITY THAT EXTENDS BEYOND THE WALLS OF OUR CLASSROOMS, AND WORKING WITH OUR LOCAL BUSINESSES, OUR CIVIC ORGANIZATIONS AND OTHER STAKEHOLDERS TO ADDRESS THE NEEDS AND ADAPTATIONS OF OUR KIDS.

OF COURSE, THE REAL WORK IS EQUITY AND INCLUSION AND WHAT WE'RE ALL ABOUT, AND WE'RE COMMITTED TO FOSTERING A CULTURE OF EQUITY, DIVERSITY, INCLUSION, WHERE EVERY MEMBER OF OUR SCHOOL DISTRICT FEELS VALUED, RESPECTED, SUPPORTED, AND OF COURSE, A SENSE OF BELONGING.

QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS ABOUT THE COMMITMENT? WHAT EVOLVED FROM THE WORK IS REALLY LOOKING DEEPLY AT WHAT OUR MISSION AND VISION WILL BE.

WE'RE STANDING TRUE ON THE FACT THAT WE WANT TO CREATE AN INCLUSIVE ENVIRONMENT WHERE EACH STUDENT EXPERIENCES BELONGING, HIGH QUALITY INSTRUCTION THAT AFFIRMS THEM, AND DEEPER LEARNING.

EACH STUDENT'S VOICE, STRENGTHS, AND NEEDS GUIDE US TO DEVELOP PROGRAMS AND PATHWAYS THAT SUPPORT CONTINUOUS GROWTH AND ADVANCE EQUITABLE OPPORTUNITIES AND OUTCOMES.

HOW ARE WE GOING TO GET THERE? WELL, WE BELIEVE THAT OUR STUDENTS LOVE TO DISCOVER, LEARN, AND GROW IN THE CAMAS SCHOOL DISTRICT.

EACH STUDENT EXPLORES THEIR INTEREST, TAKES ON CHALLENGES, AND THRIVES AS A MEMBER OF OUR COMMUNITY.

AGAIN, THE MISSION AND VISION EVOLVED FROM SEVERAL YEARS, AND MORE INTENSELY THE LAST FEW MONTHS OF THE WORK WITH OUR STAKEHOLDERS.

THIS WAS NOT SOMETHING THAT THE SUPERINTENDENT PUT TOGETHER OR A CABINET MEMBER, THIS WAS SOMETHING THAT EVOLVED FROM THE WORK AND FROM ALL OF OUR KIDS AND OUR STAKEHOLDERS.

I'M VERY PROUD OF THAT.

ULTIMATELY, THESE ARE OUR GUIDING PRINCIPLES AND VALUES.

MY HOPE IS THAT THESE VALUES WILL RISE TO THE SURFACE WHEN OUR BOARD, WHEN MYSELF, OUR CABINET, OUR TEACHERS, OUR LEADERS ARE MAKING DECISIONS.

WHETHER THAT COMES IN THE FORM OF BUDGET DECISIONS, CURRICULUM DECISIONS, ETC.

[02:15:04]

THESE ARE WHAT ARE GOING TO BE REALLY THE ANCHOR VALUES, AND THEY HAVE BEEN.

BUT IT'S WONDERFUL TO START TO SEE THIS IN PRINT.

I THINK FIRST AND FOREMOST, AND THIS CAME RIGHT FROM OUR BUILDING LEADERS IS AMPLIFIED STUDENT VOICE.

AGAIN, YOU SAW THIS AT OUR STUDENT ADVISORY CONFERENCE, YOU HEARD THAT FROM JOY EARLIER TODAY, THAT IS FIRST AND FOREMOST, WE WANT TO SET THE STANDARD FOR STUDENT VOICE IN OUR REGION.

OF COURSE, YOU CAN'T LEARN UNLESS YOU HAVE A SAFE AND HEALTHY SCHOOL ENVIRONMENT, EXCELLENCE IN ACADEMIC, SOCIAL AND LIFELONG LEARNING, CULTURAL UNDERSTANDING, EQUITY, OUR PARTNERSHIPS, EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION, AND A RESPONSIBLE USE OF OUR RESOURCES, WHICH JASON JUST WENT OVER.

YOU'LL BE ABLE TO SEE THAT IN THE LINK THERE IN THE DOCUMENT, THE MISSION, VISION, AND GUIDING PRINCIPLES.

EACH OF THOSE IS EXPLAINED AND DEFINED A LITTLE BIT MORE CLOSELY.

AGAIN, REALLY OUR NORTHSTAR IS WHAT IS THE ULTIMATE GRADUATE? WHAT DOES A CHEMIST STUDENT LOOK LIKE AFTER THEY LEAVE OUR DISTRICT? BUT THIS ISN'T JUST ABOUT HIGH SCHOOL, THIS IS ABOUT PRE-K ALL THE WAY THROUGH, AND PROVIDING OUR STUDENTS AN OPPORTUNITY TO BECOME AS CLOSELY CONNECTED TO THIS PROFILE AS POSSIBLE.

THE PROFILE OF A GRADUATE WILL ULTIMATELY BECOME A VISUAL FOR ALL OF US, NO MATTER WHERE YOU GO, WHAT OFFICE, WHAT CLASSROOM, WHAT BUILDING YOU GO TO, WE'LL SEE THIS, WHICH IS DEFINING THE LEARNING AND EXPERIENCES IN OUR SCHOOLS.

OUR COMMITMENT TO CREATING EXPERIENCES FOR EVERY STUDENT TO SUCCEED, AND AN INTEGRAL PART OF THE WAY PEOPLE PERCEIVE, TALK AND EXPERIENCE CAMAS SCHOOLS.

AGAIN, GOING BACK TO WHAT JOYCE SAID EARLIER, EACH STAKEHOLDER, EACH PERSON IN OUR DISTRICT WILL HOPEFULLY MODEL THIS BEHAVIOR SO THAT ULTIMATELY OUR STUDENTS ARE EMPOWERED WITH THESE FIVE VALUES.

BECOMING A WELLNESS NAVIGATOR, LEARNING HOW TO TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF AND OTHERS.

A SELF EMPOWERED LEARNER.

STUDENTS WHO CAN THINK CRITICALLY AND ARE LEADERS IN THEIR COMMUNITY, EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATORS.

THERE'S NO MORE IMPORTANT THING, IN MY OPINION, THAN BEING ABLE TO EFFECTIVELY HAVE TWO WAY COMMUNICATION AS A COMMUNITY MEMBER AND AS A STUDENT.

ALSO, I THINK TRACY, YOU POINTED THIS OUT DURING THE WORKSHOP, ESPECIALLY AS A BUSINESS OWNER, HOW IMPORTANT IT IS TO BE ENGAGED IN YOUR COMMUNITY.

PUTTING THOSE VALUES TOGETHER TO ULTIMATELY BECOME A TOP NOTCH GRADUATE COMING OUT OF CAMAS.

THE THREE GOALS THAT REALLY EVOLVE FROM THIS WORK ARE SIMPLY THE CULTURE OF SAFETY AND BELONGING, WHICH THEN HOPEFULLY WILL LEAD TO HIGH QUALITY INSTRUCTION, WHICH THEN WILL LEAD TO RESPONSIVE PATHWAYS.

I FEEL LIKE THESE GOALS REALLY ARE INTERWOVEN, BUT ALSO BUILD UPON ONE ANOTHER.

YOU CAN READ THOSE DESCRIPTIONS.

WE'VE GONE OVER THIS BEFORE.

I JUST WANT TO KIND OF REITERATE FOR THE PUBLIC AS WELL AS YOU THAT THOSE WILL HOPEFULLY BE PART OF THE FABRIC INTO OUR COMMUNITY WHERE NOT JUST OUR STAKEHOLDERS BUT OUR STUDENTS, OUR FAMILIES, OUR BUSINESS LEADERS, OUR PARTNERS WILL KNOW THESE THREE AND HOPEFULLY BE ABLE TO RECITE THOSE TO ONE ANOTHER AS WE MOVE FORWARD.

THEN OF COURSE, THE THEORY OF ACTION.

THIS IS WHERE WE CREATE A CULTURE OF SAFETY AND BELONGING, PROVIDE HIGH QUALITY INSTRUCTION, BUILD PATHWAYS THAT RESPOND TO THE CHANGING NEEDS AND INTERESTS OF OUR STUDENTS.

IF WE CAN DO THIS, THEN WE CAN REACH OUR GOALS.

ONE OF THE THINGS I'D LIKE TO POINT OUT IS THIS DOCUMENT WHICH WE LIKE TO CALL AT A GLANCE.

THIS IS SOMETHING THAT I BELIEVE THE BOARD TRULY SUPPORTED IN OUR WORKSHOP, AND WHAT I LIKE TONIGHT IS FOR YOUR BLESSING TO MOVE FORWARD WITH THIS WORK.

THIS IS THE MEAT AND POTATOES OF OUR PLAN.

IF YOU TAKE A LOOK AT THE BOLDED ITEMS, THESE ARE ITEMS, THESE ARE INITIATIVES, THESE ARE BELIEFS, THESE ARE STANDARDS THAT WE'D LIKE TO MOVE FORWARD WITH.

SOME OF THESE HAVE BEEN AROUND A WHILE IN OUR DISTRICT, SOME OF THEM ARE RATHER NEW.

BUT IF YOU LOOK, THESE SHOULDN'T BE FOREIGN CONCEPTS.

WELL, I WILL POINT OUT THOUGH IS THAT WE'RE LISTENING TO OUR COMMUNITY, WE'RE LISTENING TO OUR TEACHERS.

I SPECIFICALLY WANT TO POINT OUT STANDARDS BASED INSTRUCTION SO WE KNOW AND WE'VE HEARD LOUD AND CLEAR, ALL OF YOU HAVE HEARD LOUD AND CLEAR THAT

[02:20:03]

WE NEED TO TAKE A DEEPER LOOK AT STANDARDS BASED INSTRUCTION.

WE DO NOT WANT TO THROW THE BABY OUT WITH THE BATHWATER, BUT WHAT WE WANT TO DO IS MAKE SURE THAT WE ALL HAVE A COMMON UNDERSTANDING OF WHAT THAT WORK IS AND WHY IT'S GOOD FOR KIDS.

WE HAVEN'T NECESSARILY TALKED TO A LOT OF PEOPLE THAT ARE AGAINST OUR ANTI STANDARDS OR STANDARDS-BASED INSTRUCTION.

IT'S THE REPORTING MECHANISMS, THE ASSESSMENT MECHANISMS, THE GUARD RAILS THAT HAVEN'T NECESSARILY BEEN AS WELL DEFINED SINCE THIS ROLLED OUT A FEW YEARS BACK.

I'M POINTING THIS OUT BECAUSE I THINK THE SUPPORT THAT I'M ASKING FOR IS YOUR GREEN LIGHT, TO SAY, JOHN AND TEAM, WE APPRECIATE THIS WORK, WE VALUE THIS WORK, BUT WE'D LIKE TO SEE MORE WORK DONE BEFORE THIS STRATEGIC PLAN IS FULLY ADOPTED.

WHAT WE'D LIKE TO DO IS CREATE AN ACTION PLAN OR BASICALLY A THROUGH LINE, WHICH LEADS ME TO THIS NEXT SLIDE.

THE STRATEGIC PLAN WILL PROVIDE A FOCUS AND DRIVE THE ALIGNMENT OF THESE ITEMS THAT YOU PREVIOUSLY SAW.

THE STRATEGIC PLAN INITIATIVE WORK TEAM ACTION PLANS ARE ALREADY BEING DEVELOPED AND WHAT WE'RE ASKING FOR IS OUR COMMUNITY, OUR STAKEHOLDERS, ALL OF OUR EMPLOYEES TO FIND A ROLE IN THIS PROCESS, WHICH WILL MEAN THE CENTRAL OFFICE DEVELOPS THESE ACTION PLANS.

THEN OUR DEPARTMENTS, WHETHER OUR FACILITIES DEPARTMENT, OUR BUSINESS DEPARTMENT, OUR TECHNOLOGY DEPARTMENT, ALL HAS A FINGERPRINT ON THIS WORK.

THEN IT GOES TO THE SCHOOL LEVEL WHERE WE'VE ALREADY HAD FOR SEVERAL YEARS, OUR POP TO IS WHERE OUR SCHOOL, OUR SCHOOL PRINCIPALS AND OUR BUILDING LEADERS HAVE THEIR THEORIES OF ACTION AND THEIR PROBLEM OF PRACTICE.

BUT I THINK THE MOST IMPORTANT PIECE IS GOING ONE STEP FURTHER, WHERE OUR TEACHERS, OUR EDUCATORS WILL HOPEFULLY LOCK ON TO ONE OR MORE OF THESE INITIATIVES AND WORK TOGETHER TO GET EACH INITIATIVE TO A BETTER PLACE.

I HIGHLIGHTED STANDARDS BASED INSTRUCTION BECAUSE THAT'S WHERE WE'RE HEARING SOME OF THE PUSHBACK, AND IT'S COMPLETELY JUSTIFIED.

ULTIMATELY, IF WE'RE GIVEN THAT GREEN LIGHT TO DO THE WORK, WE'D LIKE TO GET MORE AND MORE AND MORE STAKEHOLDERS TO THE TABLE AS PART OF THIS THROUGH LINE SO THAT BY THE TIME WE COME BACK TO YOU FOR THE FINAL ADOPTION, THAT YOU'VE REALIZED THAT WE'VE IRONED OUT SOME OF THE ISSUES.

WE'VE TALKED TO AS MANY PEOPLE AS POSSIBLE AND WE GET ROLLING IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION.

I DO BELIEVE THAT THE WAY THAT THIS IS GOING TO ROLL OUT WILL HELP TO DO THAT.

WE JUST NEED AS MANY PEOPLE INVOLVED IN THIS AS POSSIBLE.

I THINK UP UNTIL THIS POINT, WE'VE DONE A GOOD JOB WITH THAT BUT NOW THE REAL WORK BEGINS.

IN ORDER TO COME UP WITH THE CORRECT MEASURABLE OBJECTIVES, THE RIGHT QUALITATIVE AND QUANTITATIVE GOALS, IT'S GOING TO TAKE ALL OF US TO DO THAT.

I'M REALLY EXCITED TO BRING THIS BACK TO YOU AS SOON AS WE FEEL LIKE WE'RE READY WITH ALL OF THE SUPPORT FROM THESE GROUPS THAT I'M MENTIONING.

I'VE ALREADY HIT ON THIS, BUT OUR NEXT STEPS WOULD BE TO COMPLETE THOSE DEPARTMENT GOALS, AS I'VE MENTIONED.

THEN START TO DRAFT THE VISUALS OF KEY PLAN COMPONENTS.

WE ARE ALREADY IN THE PROCESS OF IDENTIFYING CO-LEADS AND THESE WORK TEAMS FOR EACH INITIATIVE THAT I'VE SPOKE OF.

DRAFTING ACTION PLANS, INCLUDING WHERE WE'RE AT AS FAR AS PROGRESS MONITORING AND THE RESOURCES THAT WE'RE GOING TO NEED TO MAKE THIS HAPPEN.

EVENTUALLY WE'LL PUBLISH ON OUR WEBSITE, WE'LL HAVE KEY PRINT MATERIALS OUT TO THE COMMUNITY.

I HAVE A VISION OF SEEING THIS AT EVERY BUSINESS IN DOWNTOWN CAMAS.

REALLY, THE WHOLE COMMUNITY KNOWING WHAT OUR GOALS ARE AND ASKING HOW COULD I BE A PART OF REACHING THOSE GOALS? ULTIMATELY SHARE, COMMUNICATE, CELEBRATE AND REPEAT.

WITH THAT SAID, I WOULD REALLY NOT BE LOOKING FOR A MOTION, BUT JUST MORE OF SOME CONVERSATION AND THEN HOPEFULLY SOME SUPPORT IN MOVING FORWARD.

HOPEFULLY THAT WAS CLEAR AND I'M HAPPY TO ANSWER ANY THINGS.

>> CLEAR. WORDS ARE IMPORTANT AND I DO NOT WANT TO DISMISS, I FEEL LIKE SOME OF YOUR WORDS USED.

I DO NOT WANT TO DISMISS THE AMOUNT OF PEOPLE THAT ALREADY STAKEHOLDERS.

CAN I USE THE TERM UNPRECEDENTED AMOUNT OF STAKEHOLDERS THAT HAVE BEEN IN THIS? TO SAY MORE NEED TO BE IN IT, I'M CURIOUS ABOUT THAT BECAUSE LEADERSHIP HAS GONE TO EVERY LEVEL FOR INPUT ON THIS.

[02:25:08]

I'M JUST CURIOUS ABOUT THAT.

THEN WHEN I HEAR YOU SAY THAT THERE'S BEEN PUSHBACK ON CERTAIN PIECES, WHEN I VIEW THE AT A GLANCE, SLIDE 11.

THAT OTHER ONE, WHICH IS HUGE.

BUT WHEN I VIEW THAT, I DON'T READ TO DO THIS.

I DON'T READ VERBATIM, I READ A BROAD TERMINOLOGY.

PROBABLY MOST LIKELY TO BE INTERPRETED AND UTILIZED IN THE UNIQUE PLACES THAT WE HAVE, DIFFERENT SCHOOLS, DIFFERENT BUILDINGS, DIFFERENT CLASSROOMS, DIFFERENT STYLES OF TEACHING AND LEARNING.

THESE ARE YET TERMS THAT WE CAN SUPPORT, BUT THERE'S NO MANDATED.

I GUESS, MUST DO THIS VERBATIM, IF I'M UNDERSTANDING THE PUSHBACK.

I WANT TO GIVE CREDIT WHERE CREDIT, THERE'S A LOT OF FINGERPRINTS ON THIS.

>> NO. THANK YOU FOR RECOGNIZING THAT.

I THINK SOMETHING CONNIE SAID DURING OUR WORKSHOP, IT REALLY MADE ME PROUD OF SAYING, IN ALL THE YEARS YOU'VE BEEN ON THE BOARD, THIS IS PROBABLY THE MOST COLLABORATIVE OF A PLAN THAT'S COME UP.

YOU'RE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT.

EVERY SINGLE COMMITTEE, EVERY SINGLE GROUP THAT WE CAN GET TO, HAD THEIR HANDS IN BUILDING THIS, SO 100% ACCURATE.

I STILL THINK THERE'S EVEN MORE THAT WE CAN DO AND MORE VOICES TO BE HEARD FOR SURE.

ABSOLUTELY. AS FAR AS THE INITIATIVES GO, I BELIEVE YOU'RE RIGHT.

LIKE I SAID, I DON'T THINK ANY OF THIS SHOULD BE NEW TO OUR COMMUNITY, ESPECIALLY OUR EDUCATORS OR EVEN OUR STUDENTS.

BUT THERE'S AREAS THAT ARE GOING TO TAKE A LITTLE BIT MORE WORK TO CLARIFY AND TO PUSH FORWARD THAN OTHERS.

FOR EXAMPLE, MTSS, THAT'S SOMETHING THAT'S STILL NEW TO A LOT OF PEOPLE, AND I FEEL THAT THAT'S SOMETHING THAT ALL OF US NEED TO HAVE A HAND IN AND WORK TOWARDS AND ENSURING THAT OUR ALL OF OUR KIDS, ARE VALUED.

THAT'S WHY I THINK GOING BACK TO THAT MOTTO OF VALUING, WE ABSOLUTELY SEE AND SERVE.

BUT THIS WORK WILL TRULY VALUE THE VOICES AT THE TABLE.

THANKS FOR CLARIFYING THAT.

>> I WAS GOING TO JUMP IN AND SAY, AT WAZDA WE GOT TO HEAR A COUPLE SESSIONS FROM THE SUMNER BONNEY LAKE DISTRICT.

WE LOOKED ABOUT THEIR STRATEGIC PLAN AND IS THE GOLD STANDARD, IT'S AMAZING.

LOOKING THROUGH HERE AND THERE.

I WAS STRUGGLING WITH THE SAME THING, AND I THINK BECAUSE WHAT WE ARE CALLING GOALS, THEY NAMED PILLARS.

THESE ARE THE THINGS THAT HOLD UP OUR GOALS.

LIKE OUR CULTURE OF SAFETY AND BELONGING, HIGH QUALITY INSTRUCTION AND RESPONSIVE PATHWAYS ARE OUR PILLARS.

THEIR GOALS ARE THINGS MORE LIKE SUCCESS IN THE EARLY YEARS, ACADEMICALLY PREPARED CRITICAL THINKERS, NURTURED, ENGAGED, EMPOWERED STUDENTS.

THEN BELOW THOSE, THEY HAVE NUMBERS.

WHAT DOES SUCCESS IN THE EARLY YEARS LOOK LIKE? THIS MANY STUDENTS BY GRADE 3 WILL ACHIEVE BLANK.

THOSE ARE THOSE GOALS THAT WE DON'T HAVE YET.

THAT'S WHY I WAS LOOKING AT THE SAME THING, LIKE THESE ARE ALL GOOD THINGS BUT THESE AREN'T THE, WHAT DO WE MEASURE TO MAKE SURE WE'RE MAKING PROGRESS AND WE'RE SUCCESSFUL.

THEN NOT TO HOP ON BONNEY, GIVE EVERYTHING TO THEM, BUT THEN THEY HAVE EACH OF THESE SUCCESS IN EARLY YEARS.

THEN IT HAS ALL OF THEIR PILLARS AND WHAT THAT MEAN.

ALIGN KINDERGARTEN TO GRADE THREE, CURRICULUM ASSESSMENT, INSTRUCTION MATERIALS, AND TECHNOLOGY TO STATE STANDARDS.

THAT'S AN ACTIONABLE GOAL.

I THINK THAT WE'RE JUST NOT THERE YET, WE'RE NOT DONE YET.

LIKE YOU SAID, THERE'S A LOT MORE PEOPLE THAT NEED TO BE ENGAGED, A LOT MORE THAT NEEDS TO BE FLESHED OUT.

I THINK WE'RE GOING IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION, BUT IT'S JUST RECOGNIZING WHERE WE ARE AND OUR TERMINOLOGY.

>> FOR SURE. I THINK THAT, WHAT WE WANT TO BE CAREFUL OF IS THAT

[02:30:02]

THE CENTRAL OFFICE TEAM ISN'T DICTATING THOSE MEASURABLE OBJECTIVES, AND SO ULTIMATELY WE'RE EXCITED TO SEE THIS BE A GRASSROOTS EFFORT.

HERE'S YOUR ULTIMATE PILLAR.

BUT NOW HOW DO WE GET THOSE MEASURABLE OBJECTIVES? HAS TO COME FROM THE PEOPLE THAT ARE CLOSEST TO THE WORK.

I COULD EASILY SAY, WELL, THIS SHOULD BE OUR GRADUATION RATE, OR THIS SHOULD BE, OR THIS OR THAT, BUT IT'S NOT GOING TO BE AS MEANINGFUL THAN IF IT COMES FROM THE CLASSROOM, IT COMES FROM THE SITE.

THAT'S GOING TO BE THE NEXT A FEW WEEKS AND MONTHS OF WORK.

>> I THINK THAT AT THE TOP LEVEL, WE CAN SAY WE WOULD LIKE A GRADUATION RATE OF 95%.

THEN AS IT BUBBLES DOWN OF LIKE, WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO TO GET THERE? WHAT DO WE NEED TO CHANGE? OR MY GOD, THAT'S TOTALLY RIDICULOUS, WHAT ARE YOU THINKING? BUT I DO THINK THAT WE NEED TO HAVE SOME OVERARCHING GOALS.

JUST GO BACK TO THE EXAMPLE, SUCCESS IN THE EARLY YEARS.

WHAT DOES THAT MEAN? WHAT DOES THAT LOOK LIKE? I THINK THAT'S GOING TO BE A COLLABORATION OF, I'M NOT A SECOND GRADE TEACHER, I DON'T KNOW WHAT THAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE.

BUT WE KNOW IT'S IMPORTANT.

WE KNOW BY GRADE 3 THERE'S SOME REALLY CRITICAL MILESTONES.

LIKE PUTTING A STAKE IN THE GROUND SAYING, HEY, THESE ARE IMPORTANT THINGS, AND THEN WE CAN FIGURE OUT WHAT DO THOSE LOOK LIKE? WHAT EXACTLY ARE THOSE THINGS? HOW DO WE MEASURE THEM?

>> NO. THANKS FOR THAT GUIDANCE. APPRECIATE IT.

>> OTHER COMMENTS? I THINK A LOT OF THOSE MEASURES AND THOSE ARE THE THINGS THAT YOU'RE STILL GOING BACK WITH THE GROUP ON?

>> CORRECT.

>> OKAY.

>> IT CONFUSED ME WHEN THE ADD A GLANCE, I WAS CONFUSING OUR THEORY OF ACTION WITH GOALS OR THE CULTURE OF SAFETY AND BELONGING AND ALL THAT.

>> THE OVERARCHING AREAS IN WHATEVER COLOR THAT IS PURPLE, YOU'RE SAYING THAT THOSE ARE REALLY MORE PILLARS AND SO ONE OF THE THINGS THAT WHAT WE COULD DO IS AS THIS WORK PROGRESSES IS LOOK AT THE GOALS EVOLVING INTO THOSE KIND OF PILLARS, OR BECOMING THOSE.

>> IS EVENTUALLY WE'LL HAVE A GOAL AND THEN WE'LL FLUSH THIS OUT BELOW FOR EACH GOAL IN THESE THREE CATEGORIES.

>> GOT IT. RIGHT NOW, THEY ARE GOALS, BUT THEY MAY EVOLVE INTO OUR PILLARS.

>> EACH NEED TO SIT ON TOP OF THOSE PILLARS, OF THOSE THREE THINGS.

YEAH, ABSOLUTELY.

>> GOT IT.

>> OTHER COMMENTS, QUESTIONS? YEAH, I THINK THAT'S THE THING THAT WE'RE ALL EXCITED TO GET TO AND SEE NOW IS THOSE ACTIONABLE GOALS.

BECAUSE YOU SEE A LOT OF THESE THINGS AND IT'S LIKE HOW LONG IS THIS GOING TO TAKE? WHAT IS ALL OF A SUDDEN EVERYTHING IS GOING TO BE DIFFERENT NEXT YEAR? NO, NOT EVERYTHING IS GOING TO BE DIFFERENT NEXT YEAR.

WHAT'S THE PLAN FOR GETTING THAT? I THINK THAT IDENTIFYING THESE GOALS, THESE ARE THE THINGS THAT WE WANT TO DO, THESE ARE THE THINGS THAT WE WANT TO ASPIRE TO.

AGAIN, WE USE THIS DOCUMENT, IT'S CALLED STRATEGIC PLANNING.

THIS IS WHERE WE ALIGN RESOURCES, PRIORITIES, THOSE KINDS OF THINGS.

I'D LIKE TO EVENTUALLY SEE THIS ADOPTED AS BOARD POLICY AS WELL SO THAT IT HAS THE WEIGHT OF BOARD POLICY BEHIND IT.

THAT'S SOMETHING THAT OUR POLICY MANUAL CURRENTLY IS MISSING.

BUT WE'LL GET TO THAT DOWN THE LINE.

IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE THAT YOU NEED FROM US?

>> NO, JUST TO THAT POINT REAL QUICK REGARDING THAT.

I THINK THAT'S ONE OF THE REASONS WHY WE ARE AVOIDING AN EXPIRATION DATE ON THIS BECAUSE SOME OF THIS WORK IS GOING TO TAKE LONGER THAN OTHERS AND WE JUST WANT TO CONTINUE TO REEVALUATE THIS PLAN WITH OUR STAKEHOLDERS, WITH OUR ACTION COMMITTEES, AND WITH YOU, IT MAY NOT BE ANNUALLY, MAYBE IT'S BI-ANNUALLY, MAYBE EVERY TIME WE HAVE A WORKSHOP, WE TAKE A LOOK AT IT AND SEE WHERE WE'RE AT.

I THINK NATIONALLY THAT TENDS TO BE THE TREND NOW IS GOING AWAY FROM EXPIRATION DATES AND LOOKING AT A CONSTANT EVOLUTION OF THIS WORK, BECAUSE AS YOU SAID, SOME OF THIS IS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN YESTERDAY AND SOME OF IT WE'RE MUCH MORE FURTHER ALONG THAN OTHER AREAS.

AGAIN, THIS IS GOING TO BE A LIVING DOCUMENT.

THIS IS NOT SOMETHING THAT'S GOING TO BE SITTING ON A BOOKSHELF SOMEWHERE.

I DO LIKE THE IDEA OF IT BECOMING BOARD POLICY AND ULTIMATELY REALLY EVEN CHANGING THE WAY WE DO BUSINESS AND LOOKING AT OUR AGENDA AND MAKING SURE THAT, WHEN WE HAVE A CURRICULUM ADOPTION, THAT IT'S TIED, I LOVE THE WAY THAT JOY TIED IT ALREADY TO THE PLAN,

[02:35:01]

BUT EVENTUALLY IT WILL BE TIED TO A GOAL OR A PILLAR AS CONNIE SAID.

IT'S EXCITING WORK.

>> ANY OTHER QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS? DO YOU HAVE THE FEEDBACK THAT YOU NEED FROM US OR ANYTHING ELSE?

>> I DO. I JUST NEED A THUMBS UP AND WE'LL GET TO WORK.

I'D LIKE TO PUT A MESSAGE OUT TO OUR COMMUNITY SAYING THAT THE WORK IS MOVING FORWARD.

JUST BECAUSE WE DO WANT TO GET MORE HANDS-ON DECK AND GET MORE PEOPLE INVOLVED IN THESE ACTION COMMITTEES.

IF YOU'RE OKAY, I'D LIKE TO DO THAT.

>> YEAH.

>> THAT MOVES US DOWN TO THE LAST CATEGORY ON OUR AGENDA,

[13. QUALITY FACILITIES AND RESOURCES]

QUALITY FACILITIES AND RESOURCES.

WE HAVE A COUPLE OF ITEMS HERE FOR APPROVAL.

OUR FIRST ONE ITEM A IS AMERICAN RED CROSS LICENSE TRAINING PROVIDER AGREEMENT.

A CONTRACT RENEWAL WITH RED CROSS FOR CPR, ETC CLASSES.

>> THIS IS SUCH A VALUABLE ASSET THAT WE GIVE TO STUDENTS.

JUST WANT TO SPEAK ON BEHALF OF MY STUDENT WHO GOT THIS CERTIFICATE AND ACTUALLY GOT TO USE IT, UNFORTUNATELY, IN ACTION ON A COLLEGE CAMPUS VISIT.

I JUST WANT TO THANK THIS OPPORTUNITY FOR BEING IN OUR SCHOOLS AND I WOULD LIKE TO MOVE TO APPROVE A 36-MONTH CONTRACT RENEWAL WITH THE AMERICAN RED CROSS ALLOWING ARC INSTRUCTORS TO TEACH CPR, AED, AND FIRST AID CLASSES THROUGHOUT THE DISTRICT.

THE FUNDS FOR CLASSES NOT PAID BY ATTENDEES, IT WILL COME FROM THE GENERAL FUND.

>> SECOND.

>> MOVED BY ERICA. SECONDED BY CONNIE.

ANY FURTHER DISCUSSION? ALL THOSE IN FAVOR?

>> AYE.

>> MOTION CARRIES. NEXT ONE.

LETTER B IS GROUNDS DEPARTMENT MOWER TRADE-IN FOR MOWER PURCHASE OUT WITH THE OLD IN WITH THE NEW.

>> I MOVED TO APPROVE THE TRADE-IN OF 260-INCH HUSTLER BRAND MOWERS WITH A COMBINED TRADE-IN VALUE OF $5,250.

THE $5,250 WILL OFFSET THE PURCHASE OF TWO NEW HUSTLER Z PERKINS DIESEL 60-INCH MOWERS FOR A NET TOTAL OF $29,361.94.

THIS WILL BE FUNDED FROM THE GROUNDS DEPARTMENT BUDGET.

>> I WANTED TO DO ALL THE REALLY SEXY MOTIONS BUT I SECOND THAT.

[LAUGHTER]

>> IT WAS MOVED BY ERICA, SECONDED BY CONNIE.

ANY FURTHER DISCUSSION? ALL THOSE IN FAVOR?

>> AYE.

>> OPPOSED?

>> MOWERS. [LAUGHTER]

>> MOTION CARRIES.

>> WAIT, I GET THIS ONE.

>> LETTER C. THIS IS A RENEWAL LEASE FOR COPIERS MACHINES AT CAMAS HIGH SCHOOL.

[LAUGHTER]

>> I MOVED TO APPROVE A RENEWAL LEASE WITH PACIFIC OFFICE AUTOMATION TO REPLACE EXPIRING LEASED COPIERS LOCATED AT CHS.

THE TOTAL LEASE AMOUNT FOR THE LEASE MACHINES IS $429 PLUS TAX PER MONTH FOR 60 MONTHS.

THESE FUNDS WILL COME FROM THE GENERAL FUND AND ARE $28.80 LESS PER MONTH THAN THE PREVIOUS LEASE.

>> I SECOND.

>> MOVED BY CONNIE. SECONDED BY BOMINI.

ANY FURTHER DISCUSSION? ALL THOSE IN FAVOR?

>> AYE.

>> MOTION CARRIES. LETTER D. THIS IS A ROUTER REPLACEMENT PROJECT THAT'S COMING FROM THE TECH LEVY.

>> I DID ASK SHERMAN A QUESTION ON THIS BECAUSE IT SAYS WE'RE NOT DOING THE WORK UNTIL SPRING BREAK 2025, WHICH HE SAID IS CORRECT.

WE ARE MOVING, I BELIEVE, THE CARDON TURF, WHICH IS NEXT ON OUR AGENDA, AHEAD OF THESE ROUTERS.

WITH THAT, I'LL MOVE TO APPROVE THE CONTRACT WITH ADNETICS FOR REPLACEMENT ROUTERS OF $285,919.86 PLUS TAX.

THE FUNDS WILL COME FROM THE CAPITAL PROJECT TECHNOLOGY LEVY.

>> I SECOND IT.

>> MOVED BY TRACY. SECONDED BY ERICA.

FURTHER DISCUSSION. ALL THOSE IN FAVOR?

>> AYE.

>> MOTION CARRIES. LETTER E. WHAT TRACY WAS JUST ALLUDING TO HERE IS THE REPLACEMENT OF THE TURF AT CARD AND FIELD AT CAMAS HIGH SCHOOL.

THIS IS A PROMISED ITEM IN OUR CAPITAL LEVY.

WE'RE GETTING GOING ON A LITTLE EARLY.

>> I MOVED TO APPROVE A CONTRACT WITH COAST TO COAST TURF FOR THE TURF FIELD REPLACEMENT AT CARDON FIELD AT CAMAS HIGH SCHOOL.

COST IS $596,806 WITH AN ADDED 5% FOR A TOTAL COST OF $679,911.24.

THIS CONTRACT WILL BE PAID FROM THE CAPITAL LEVY FUNDS.

>> I HAVE A QUESTION. THIS IS THE REDFIELD, IS THIS CONFIRMED I SAY IT SAYS REDFIELD, NO CHARGE?

>> WE'VE HEARD ABOUT THAT IN OUR SCHOOLS.

>> IS THAT TRUE?

>> THIS IS CARDEN'S GOING TO BE AN INFERNO?

>> YES. IT LOOKS LIKE IT'S ON.

CAN YOU HEAR ME? YEAH, WE'RE REALLY EXCITED ABOUT, WE WANT TO HAVE REALLY COOL OPPORTUNITIES AND FACILITIES FOR OUR KIDS.

THIS IS AT NO COST TO DO THAT FOR, TO GIVE IT A LOOK.

WE HAVE KIDS WHO COME UP AND THEY'RE SHOPPING, WHICH DISTRICT TO GO TO? THE FIRST THING THEY TAKE A PICTURE IN FRONT OF IS THE FIELD HOUSE WITH THEY'RE TRYING TO SEE.

OTHER THINGS LIKE THAT THAT STAND OUT TO KIDS AND MAKE THEM EXCITED ABOUT COMING TO SCHOOL.

THIS IS ONE WAY OF DOING THAT, AT NO COST AND THEN BOOSTERS THREW IN TO PUT A BIG C ON IT AS WELL, SO THEY'RE PARTNERING FOR THAT PART OF THE COST OF THE PROJECT.

>> I SAW THAT IN THERE. I'D LOVE THAT THE BOOSTERS WERE HELPING WITH THAT TOO. THAT'S AWESOME.

>> I WOULD SECOND THE MOTION.

>> IT'S MOVED BY BOMINI, SECONDED BY CONNIE.

ANY FURTHER DISCUSSION? ALL THOSE IN FAVOR?

>> AYE.

>> SOUTHWEST WASHINGTON.

>> MOTION CARRIES. LAST ONE.

THIS IS AN APPROVAL REQUEST FOR A STUDENT PLACEMENT AT NEW FOCUS ACADEMY.

>> I MOVED TO APPROVE THE PLACEMENT OF ONE STUDENT AT NEW FOCUS ACADEMY DURING THE '23 -'24 SCHOOL YEAR FOR A TOTAL COST NOT TO EXCEED $147,690.

>> SECOND.

>> IT WAS MOVED BY TRACY SECONDED BY ERICA.

ANY FURTHER DISCUSSION? ALL THOSE IN FAVOR?

>> AYE.

>> MOTION CARRIES. THAT BRINGS US TO THE END OF OUR AGENDA.

WE DO NOT HAVE AN EXECUTIVE SESSION, SO I WILL ADJOURN US AT 8:11 PM.
