>> GOOD AFTERNOON, EVERYONE,

[1. School Board Workshop - 4:30 PM]

AND WELCOME TO OUR MAY 13 WORKSHOP.

IT'S A LITTLE AFTER 04:30, BUT WE ARE READY TO GET STARTED.

DR. ANSLON, I'LL TURN OVER TO YOU FOR INTRODUCTIONS.

>> THANK YOU, COREY. IT'S GREAT TO SEE EVERYONE.

HAPPY POST-MOTHER'S DAY TO ALL THE MOMS AND EVERYONE OUT THERE.

HOPE YOU HAD A GOOD ONE.

WE HAVE A PRETTY FULL AGENDA THIS EVENING.

WE WANT TO START OFF WITH AN UPDATE FROM UNITED STATES TENNIS ASSOCIATION WHO WE'VE BEEN WORKING ON A PARTNERSHIP FOR QUITE SOME TIME, BUT WE'RE EXCITED TO HEAR FROM THEM AND HEAR SOME OF YOUR QUESTIONS AND REALLY GET THE BALL MORE PUBLICLY ROLLING, SO TO SPEAK, TONIGHT.

EXCITED ABOUT THAT. THEN WE'LL ROLL INTO CONTINUOUS GROWTH.

OUR PRINCIPALS WILL BE HERE.

THEY'RE ALREADY WAITING, AND THEN WE'LL END THE EVENING WITH SOME LOGISTICS FOR MAY.

WITHOUT FURTHER ADO, LOVE TO INVITE OUR GUESTS TO CHIME IN FROM USTA. WELCOME.

>> THANK YOU, JOHN. THANK YOU FOR HAVING US HERE.

WE REALLY APPRECIATE THE OPPORTUNITY, AND WE'RE REALLY EXCITED ABOUT THE PARTNERSHIP COMING UP.

I WANT TO INTRODUCE OUR TEAM. THIS IS CHINA KIRK.

SHE'S OUR CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER.

THIS IS PATRICK REEVES, WHO'S OUR GENERAL MANAGER OF INFRASTRUCTURE AND DELIVERY.

MY NAME IS MATTHEW WARREN.

I'M THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR AND CEO OF USTA, PACIFIC NORTHWEST.

JASON, IF YOU GO TO SLIDES FOR ME.

TWO. YES. PERFECT. I JUST WANT TO INTRODUCE OURSELVES A LITTLE BIT, WHAT WE'RE ABOUT, AND WHAT THIS PARTNERSHIP ENTAILS, AND THEN I THINK JASON WILL SPEAK A LITTLE BIT AND WE'LL OPEN UP FOR QUESTIONS.

AS I MENTIONED, WE'RE THE UNITED STATES TENNIS ASSOCIATION, PACIFIC NORTHWEST SECTION.

WE'RE A 501C3, NOT-FOR-PROFIT ORGANIZATION, BUT THE MISSION, AS YOU CAN SEE IS TO PROMOTE AND DEVELOP THE GROWTH OF TENNIS.

NEXT SLIDE, PLEASE, JASON.

WE ARE THE GOVERNING BODY OF THE SPORT OF TENNIS, AND WE ARE PART OF THE TEAM THAT DELIVERS OR FULFILLS AGAINST THE US OPEN.

AS YOU SEE HERE, EACH YEAR OUR CORPORATE NATIONAL OFFICE RUNS THAT AND WE SUPPORT THAT AS WELL.

BUT WHAT WE FOCUS ON IS TRYING TO GROW THE GAME, AND REALLY WHAT WE'LL FOCUS ON IS ACCESSIBILITY, PROVIDING PEOPLE THE OPPORTUNITY TO PLAY TENNIS.

BECAUSE TENNIS, BELIEVE IT OR NOT, IN A RECENT MAYO CLINIC, THE STUDY SHOWED THAT IF YOU PLAY TENNIS, YOU ADD ABOUT 9.7 YEARS TO YOUR LONGEVITY, AND WAS THE HIGHEST RANKED SPORT OF ALL OF THEM ACROSS THE 10-YEAR STUDY WITH THE MAYO CLINIC.

THIS IS NOT JUST ABOUT TENNIS AND ALL, THIS IS ABOUT HEALTH AND WELLNESS AND LONG TERM HEALTH.

WE OVERSEE THE STATES OF OREGON, WASHINGTON, ALASKA, AND THE NORTHERN TIP OF IDAHO.

AS I MENTIONED BEFORE WE FOCUS ON ACCESSIBILITY.

WE DO SO THROUGH THESE PROGRAMS AND STUFF, WE SERVE ABOUT 1.3 MILLION TENNIS PLAYERS IN THOSE FOUR STATES I PREVIOUSLY MENTIONED.

WE DO SO THROUGH PORNOCOPA, IF YOU WILL, OF PROGRAMS AND OPPORTUNITIES, BOTH COMPETITIVE AS WELL AS RECREATIONAL.

YOU MIGHT BE FAMILIAR WITH THE ADULT LEAGUE PROGRAM WHERE YOU CAN ADVANCE AND PLAY IN NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS.

WE ALSO HAVE A JUNIOR TERM IN STRUCTURE IN WHICH PLAYERS CAN PARTICIPATE NATIONWIDE AND ADVANCE AS WELL.

BUT WE ALSO FOCUS ON AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAMS, AND JUST TRYING TO GET RACKETS AND KIDS HANDS BOTH IN PARKS AND SCHOOLS, LIKE I SAID.

WE ALSO OPERATE INDOOR TENNIS FACILITIES AND TRY TO HELP BUILD INDOOR TENNIS COURTS AS WELL.

NEXT SLIDE, PLEASE, JASON.

THE REASON THAT WE DO THIS, AND ONE OF THE THINGS THAT WE'RE MOST EXCITED ABOUT, IS THROUGH OUR EFFORTS, AS YOU CAN SEE HERE, IF YOU SQUINT REALLY LOW THERE, YOU CAN SEE THAT WE HAVE 1.3 MILLION TENNIS PLAYERS AND WE ARE GROWING ABOUT 15%.

I'M ROUNDING 14.9.

WE LEAD THE NATION IN OUR GROWTH RATE.

THE NATIONAL AVERAGE IS ABOUT 6.2%.

WE'RE REALLY PROUD OF THAT, AND IT SHOWS THAT WE ARE MAKING AN IMPACT WITH OUR MISSION.

NEXT SLIDE, PLEASE, JASON.

HOWEVER, OUR BIGGEST CHALLENGE, TO BE HONEST WITH YOU, IS THE LACK OF ACCESSIBILITY, SPECIFICALLY FOR A YEAR ROUND ACCESS TO PLAY OPPORTUNITIES.

IN THOSE FOUR STATES I MENTIONED BEFORE, WE HAVE 585 INDOOR COURT FOR A POPULATION BASE OF OVER 12 MILLION PEOPLE.

THAT COMES OUT TO ABOUT ONE QUARTER TO EVERY 21,000 PEOPLE, WHEREAS THE NATIONAL AVERAGE IS ONE QUARTER TO EVERY 10,000 PEOPLE WHO ARE MORE THAN DOUBLE THE NATIONAL AVERAGE.

IN FACT, I WILL SHARE WITH YOU THAT, AS I MENTIONED BEFORE, WE HAVE 1.3 MILLION TENNIS PLAYERS.

WE HAVE A THIRD-PARTY WHO DOES RESEARCH FOR US THAT SUGGESTS THERE'S ANOTHER 1.2 MILLION PEOPLE WHO WANT TO PLAY TENNIS BUT CAN'T BECAUSE THEY DON'T HAVE A PLACE TO PLAY YEAR ROUND.

THAT'S OUR OPPORTUNITY.

JASON, NEXT SLIDE, PLEASE.

HOW DOES THIS APPLY HERE? I TALKED ABOUT THE MACRO IN TERMS OF THE ENTIRE SECTION.

WELL, WHICH IF YOU LOOK JUST HERE AT CLARK COUNTY, THERE ARE A TOTAL OF 20 INDOOR COURTS AND OVER 500,000 PEOPLE.

THAT WOULD SUGGEST THAT WE NEED ANOTHER 30 COURTS JUST TO MATCH THAT.

THOSE 20 COURTS THAT YOU CURRENTLY HAVE, ONLY NINE OF THEM ARE TRULY OPEN TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC., THE REST OF THEM ARE PRIVATE.

THAT'S THE OPPORTUNITY THAT WE FACE HERE AND WHY WE'RE HERE TODAY.

I'LL TURN THINGS OVER TO MY COLLEAGUE, CHINA,

[00:05:01]

HERE WE GO AND GO INTO A LITTLE BIT ABOUT OUR COMMUNITY HUB MODEL.

>> THANK YOU, MATTHEW. GOOD EVENING, EVERYONE.

MY NAME IS CHINA. ALL RIGHT.

LET'S GO AHEAD AND JUMP INTO A COUPLE OF THINGS HERE.

A LITTLE CLOSER. GAYLE, HOW'S THAT? I CAN EVEN HEAR MYSELF NOW.

ALL RIGHT, EVERYBODY.

WHAT WE'RE GOING TO TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT IS, WHAT THE PARTNERSHIP WILL ACTUALLY LOOK LIKE VERSUS WHAT THE TENNIS COURTS LOOK LIKE THEMSELVES.

A LITTLE BIT INTO THE MEAT OF HOW WE CAN PARTNER TOGETHER AND THEN PASS THAT OVER TO PAT REEVES.

ALL RIGHT. NEXT SLIDE FOR ME.

EVERYTHING THAT WE DO AS A NONPROFIT ORGANIZATION, WE'RE REALLY FOCUSED ON A COMMUNITY HUB MODEL.

JASON, NEXT SLIDE HERE.

IF YOU LOOK AT, REALLY, THE ETHOS OR THE PHILOSOPHY IN WHICH WE APPROACH PARTNERSHIP, IT'S NOT ONLY TO BRING CAMAS HIGH SCHOOL INTO THE CENTER OF THIS COMMUNITY HUB MODEL, BUT IT'S REALLY TO SERVE THE ENTIRE COMMUNITY.

AS MATTHEW ALREADY SHARED WITH US, TENNIS IS A LIFETIME SPORT.

IT REALLY CAN BENEFIT EVERYONE EVEN OUTSIDE OF THIS HIGH SCHOOL.

IF YOU LOOK AT NW TENNIS CENTERS, AND THIS IS VERY SIMILAR TO WHAT WE'VE DONE AT VANCOUVER TENNIS CENTER OR OTHER TENNIS FACILITIES, YOU REALLY PUT CAMAS HIGH SCHOOL, THE INFRASTRUCTURE, IN THE CENTER.

THREE THINGS HAPPEN WITH THAT.

THE FIRST IS THAT CAMAS HIGH SCHOOL GETS AN INDUSTRY BEST TENNIS EXPERIENCE HERE, WHICH MEANS THAT YOUR BOYS, THE GIRLS TEAMS, THE ADULTS, THE TEACHERS, EVERYONE AT THIS SCHOOL HAS ACCESS TO THAT FACILITY.

BUT IN ADDITION TO THAT, WE GO OUTSIDE TO OTHER ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS, PUBLIC PARKS, ORGANIZATIONS, AND WE CREATE A FEEDER PROGRAM.

WE CAN GET INTO THAT A LITTLE BIT LATER, BUT WE DO THIS THROUGH SOMETHING CALLED REC TENNIS.

THAT'S WHERE WE'LL ACTUALLY GO IN AND WE'LL CREATE INTRODUCTORY PROGRAMS. WE'LL CREATE JOBS, WE'LL WRITE EQUIPMENT, SCHOLARSHIPS, AND HOW TO FEED OUR SYSTEM HERE INTO THE SCHOOL.

THEN LASTLY, THROUGH THIS PARTNERSHIP AND COMMUNITY HUB MODEL, IT'S SOMETHING THAT IS A NATIONAL GOVERNING BODY, WE CAN BRING TO THE TABLE THAT A PRIVATE CLUB OR ANOTHER ENTITY WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO.

THAT'S OUR SHARED SERVICES.

WHEN YOU THINK ABOUT FUNDRAISING, MARKETING, THE PR, THE COMMUNICATION, THE ONBOARDING, THE ACCOUNTING, THE ONLINE INFRASTRUCTURE, ALL THOSE DIGITAL PIECES, THOSE ARE THOSE SHARED SERVICES AND VALUE ADD, WHICH YOU CAN TALK A LITTLE BIT LATER TO.

CAN YOU GUYS HEAR ME OKAY? I FEEL LIKE I'M GOING IN AND OUT ON THIS.

ALL RIGHT. JASON, NEXT SLIDE THEN.

AS NATIONAL GOVERNING BODY, WE ALSO HAVE ACCESS, OF COURSE, MATTHEW SAID, TO US OPEN AND SPECIAL EVENTS.

ONE OF THE THINGS THAT WE'VE BEEN ABLE TO DO AT A VANCOUVER TENNIS CENTER, IS BRING IN THESE SPECIAL EVENTS, WHETHER IT'S DAVIS CUP OR ANY OF THESE OTHER COMMUNITY PIECES, WE'VE DONE COIN TOSSES, WE'VE BROUGHT PEOPLE TO THE OPENING DAY CEREMONIES.

IT'S JUST A LITTLE BIT OF THAT WE'LL BE ABLE TO ALSO BRING HERE TO CAMAS. ALL RIGHT.

NEXT SLIDE. THEN FINALLY, OF COURSE, DEI.

WE SPOKE A LITTLE BIT, EVER SO BRIEFLY ABOUT REC TENNIS AND CREATING JOBS AND CREATING AN ECOSYSTEM AROUND CAMAS HIGH SCHOOL.

BUT THIS IS JUST A QUICK SNAPSHOT OF THE TRENDS THAT USTA PNW ITSELF HAS BEEN ABLE TO BUCK FROM LANGUAGES TO GENDER.

WHEN WE REALLY TALK ABOUT A DEI STANDPOINT AND WE TALK ABOUT THAT EQUITABLE ACCESS IN THAT COMMUNITY HUB MODEL, WE TRULY LEAD BY EXAMPLE. ALL RIGHT.

LET'S HEAD INTO OUR PARTNERSHIP IN HERE, JASON. TWO SLIDES HERE.

THE FIRST IS REALLY THE CONCEPT OF US COMING TOGETHER.

WHERE DO OUR MISSIONS ALIGN IN THIS PARTNERSHIP? THE SECOND SLIDE WILL BE MORE OF THAT NITTY GRITTY THAT WE CAN GET INTO.

OF COURSE, AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL, THE CONCEPT IS TWO MISSIONS ALIGNED, CAMAS HIGH SCHOOL AND USTA PNW.

WE WANT TO TAKE YOUR EXISTING EIGHT OUTDOOR TENNIS COURTS AND BUBBLE THOSE.

WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT THERE IS A YEAR ROUND PLAY.

IN ORDER TO DO THAT, WE BOTH NEED TO COME TO THE TABLE WITH JOINT CAPITAL INVESTMENT, WHICH WE ARE ABSOLUTELY GOING TO DO AT A TWO-TO-ONE RATIO, WHICH WE CAN ALSO GET INTO.

NOW, THIS INDOOR FACILITY IS GOING TO BE OPEN NOT ONLY TO THE CAMAS HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS FIRST AND FOREMOST, BECAUSE WE NEED TO MAKE SURE YOU HAVE YEAR ROUND PLAY, BUT ALSO OPEN TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC.

THAT'S GOING TO HAVE PEOPLE FEEDING INTO THIS NOT ONLY THE TENNIS FACILITY, BUT INDIVIDUALS IN THE COMMUNITY REALLY THINKING OF THE CAMAS HIGH SCHOOL AS AN ECO CENTER AND SOMETHING THAT THEY'RE INVESTED IN, WHETHER THEY HAVE KIDS OR FAMILIES HERE OR NOT.

IF THEY'RE PLAYING HERE AND THEY'RE ENGAGED HERE, IT'S SOMETHING THAT THEY WANT TO BE INVOLVED IN.

REALLY, AT THE END OF THE DAY, IF IT HAS TO DO WITH TENNIS, USTA PACIFIC NORTHWEST WILL TAKE OVER THE MANAGEMENT AND OPERATIONS.

THAT'S ALL OF THE DAY-TO-DAY PIECES THAT MAKE SURE THAT FROM ON COURT TO OFF COURT, NOT ONLY IS THAT STRUCTURE WORKING HERE, BUT THE ENTIRE COMMUNITY HUB MODEL AROUND THAT IS ALSO WORKING.

ALL RIGHT. NEXT SLIDE PLEASE.

THE PARTNERSHIP, IF WE WERE TO DIVIDE THIS UP REALLY INTO TWO PILLARS HERE,

[00:10:02]

I WOULD SAY THAT IF USTA PNW AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL.

IF IT'S TENNIS-SPECIFIC, WE'RE GOING TO TAKE OWNERSHIP IN THAT.

NOT ONLY IN THE CAPITAL INVESTMENT THAT WE'LL PUT FORWARD, NOT ONLY IN THE START UP COST OF THE ONGOING, BUT THAT TENNIS EXPERIENCE.

ON THE FLIP SIDE OF THAT, IF IT HAS TO DO SOMETHING WITH THE STRUCTURE WITH THE BRICK AND MORTAR OF THIS HIGH SCHOOL, THAT WOULD BE UNDER THE GUIDANCE, OF COURSE, OF CAMAS HIGH SCHOOL.

IF YOU LOOK DOWN THE LEFT HERE AT THE CATEGORIES, WHEN WE TALK ABOUT THIS TWO-TO-ONE INVESTMENT RATIO, WHETHER IT'S BUBBLING THE COURTS, THE TENNIS COURTS, THE INVESTMENT OF GETTING THE TENNIS STRUCTURE UP, YOU CAN SEE THAT ALMOST ALL OF THAT IS HANDLED BY USTA PNW.

PAT CAN GO INTO, IN JUST A MOMENT HERE, WHAT THAT LOOKS LIKE.

WHEN YOU GET INTO THE PARKING, THE ACCESS, THE BATHROOMS, THE LOBBY, THOSE TYPES OF PIECES, THAT'S REALLY WHAT JASON CAN GO OVER HERE TODAY WITH THOSE BLUEPRINTS.

BUT AT THE END OF THE DAY, IF IT HAS TO DO WITH THAT TENNIS EXPERIENCE, WE WILL ABSOLUTELY TAKE OWNERSHIP OF CREATING THAT EXPERIENCE AND MAINTAINING THE QUALITY OF THAT.

ALL RIGHT. I THINK THAT MIGHT HAVE BEEN THE LAST SLIDE IN THE PARTNERSHIP.

TIMELINE. ONE OF THE PIECES HERE IS WE RECENTLY, AND THANK YOU TO KELLY, JOHN, AND JASON, HAD OUR RECENT BOARD MEETING.

OUR USTA PNW BOARD OF DIRECTORS VOTED UNANIMOUSLY TO NOT ONLY SUPPORT AND FUND THIS, BUT TO GET THE TIMELINE TO WHAT YOU ALL NEED IN ORDER TO MAKE THIS MOVE FORWARD.

EVERYTHING FROM OUR SIDE IS READY TO GO.

WE'VE HAD A GREAT WORKING RELATIONSHIP WITH JOHN, JASON, AND KELLY ANYTIME WE'VE INTERACTED WITH ANY OF YOU TWO, IT'S BEEN ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL. THANK YOU.

ONE OF THE THINGS THAT WE'LL GET INTO AFTER THIS, OF COURSE, IS WHAT DOES THAT PARTNERSHIP LOOK LIKE? HOW DO WE COMMUNICATE THIS OUT TO THE COMMUNITY? HOW DO WE MARKET FOR THIS? HOW CAN WE JOINTLY FUNDRAISE FOR THIS AND SOME OTHER PIECES LIKE CONDITIONAL USE PERMIT.

BUT REALLY WHEN IT COMES TO US BEING ABLE TO GET STARTED, USTA PNW IS ABSOLUTELY ON BOARD.

I THINK THAT WAS THE LAST ONE THEN.

>> YES.

>> HOW'S THAT? THAT'S GOOD? MY NAME IS PADRE, SO I OVERSEE OUR FACILITIES IN RACK TENNIS.

I CAN'T TELL EVERYBODY IN THIS ROOM HOW EXCITED I AM ABOUT THIS PROJECT.

SINCE THE FIRST A KELLY AND I MET AND TALKED ABOUT IT TILL TODAY.

IT IS SUCH AN EXCITING OPPORTUNITY, I THINK FOR EVERYONE THAT PLAYS TENNIS OUT IN CAMAS.

LET'S TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT EQUITABLE ACCESS.

ONE OF THE THINGS THAT WE DO AT VANCOUVER TENNIS CENTER IS WE HOST THE FOUR PUBLIC HIGH SCHOOLS DURING INCLEMENT WEATHER.

EACH HIGH SCHOOL GETS A COURT FOR ABOUT AN HOUR AND A HALF OR TWO HOURS.

ONE THING THAT WE HAVE SEEN, SO THE BOYS SEASON IS MID-AUGUST TO ABOUT THE END OF OCTOBER.

DURING THAT TIME, WE ALMOST NEVER SEE THE BOYS.

THE WEATHER IS GREAT. THEY'RE PRACTICING ON THEIR OUTDOOR COURTS.

THEN THE GIRLS SEASON STARTS IN MARCH.

AS WE ALL KNOW WHAT MARCH LOOKS LIKE IN THE NORTHWEST.

WE SEE THE GIRLS ALL THE TIME, ALL THE WAY THROUGH GENERALLY ABOUT NOW.

MOST OF THEIR SEASON, WHEN YOU LOOK AT A CAMAS HIGH SCHOOL IS PRACTICING IN A GYM WITH 100 GIRLS PLAYING WITH FOAM BALLS AND NOT REALLY GETTING THE SAME EXPERIENCE THAT THE BOYS GET.

THAT'S OBVIOUSLY ONE THING THAT I'M REALLY EXCITED ABOUT IS THE GIRLS TEAM HAVING THE SAME OPPORTUNITY AS THE BOYS TEAM.

THIS IS A DRAWING THAT CAMAS SCHOOL DISTRICT PROVIDED FOR US, AND NOW I GET TO TALK ABOUT THE FUN STUFF.

I GET TO TALK ABOUT THE COURTS, THE DOME, AND EVERYTHING TENNIS RELATED.

THE FIRST THING THAT WE WILL DO IS WE WILL RESURFACE THE COURTS WITH US OPEN BLUE AND GREEN.

THEY'LL HAVE THE SAME LOOK AND PERFORMANCE THAT YOU SEE ON TV.

THE SURFACE THAT WE USE IS CALLED NOVA PLAY.

AGAIN, IT'S THE SAME SURFACE THAT THEY PLAY ON AT THE US OPEN, ALSO AT VANCOUVER TENNIS CENTER AND AT GILBERT TENNIS CENTER.

AGAIN, FOR THOSE OF YOU THAT DON'T SIT UP LATE AT NIGHT RESEARCHING WHAT THE BEST TENNIS SURFACES ARE, THAT'S WHAT I DO.

[INAUDIBLE] WITH MY WIFE, ASKING ME WHAT AM I RESEARCHING TENNIS SURFACES FOR.

WHY NOVA PLAY? ESSENTIALLY HOW THE TENNIS COURT SURFACES ARE PUT TOGETHER, THEY'RE ACRYLIC PAINT AND SAND.

THE MORE SAND YOU PUT IN THERE, THE SLOWER THE SURFACE AND THE GRITTIER THE SURFACE.

WHAT NOVA PLAY DOES IS THEY TAKE THAT SAND AND THEY ROUND IT, SO IT'S ROUND SAND AS OPPOSED TO ANGULAR SAND,

[00:15:02]

WHICH MAKES FOR A TRUER BOUNCE.

IT'S LESS WEAR AND TEAR ON YOUR SHOES, ON THE TENNIS BALLS.

BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY, IT'S LESS WEAR AND TEAR ON YOUR BODY.

IT'S A GREAT SURFACE.

IT LASTS LONGER.

THE COLOR HOLDS FOREVER.

IT'S THE BEST SURFACE IN THE MARKET, AND IT'S WHAT WE'RE GOING TO PUT IN ALL OF OUR FACILITIES, INCLUDING CAMAS.

NEXT SLIDE. WE'RE GOING TO TALK ABOUT THE DOME NOW.

OUR DOME WILL BE FULLY INSULATED.

WE'LL BE UP YEAR ROUND.

SORRY ABOUT THAT, JASON. THANK YOU.

WE'LL HAVE A SKYLIGHT IN OUR DOME, WHICH WILL BRING A LOT MORE LIGHT TRANSMISSION INTO THE DOME.

WE WILL HAVE BEST IN CLASS US OPEN LIGHTING.

WE'LL HAVE 10 LIGHTS IN DIRECT LIGHTS PER COURT, WHICH MEANS NO SHADOWS.

WHEN YOU LOOK UP, YOU'RE NOT GOING TO LOSE THE TENNIS BALL IN THE LIGHT.

A LOT OF FACILITIES WILL HAVE DIRECT LIGHTING, WHICH WOULD BE GREAT.

WE HAVE THE ABILITY TO TURN OFF COURTS 5, 6, 7, 8 OR JUST HAVE ONE OR TWO COURTS ON AT A TIME TO SAVE ON ELECTRICITY BILLS, WHICH I THINK IS GREAT.

WE'LL HAVE AN HVAC UNIT THAT HAS A BACKUP JUST IN CASE.

IT'LL HAVE A GENERATOR.

WE HAVE A REMOTE CONTROL THAT CONTROLS ALL OF THOSE FUNCTIONS WITHIN THE DOME.

A COUPLE OF OTHER REALLY COOL PRODUCTS THAT THESE DOMES COME WITH IS ONE IS A WIND SENSOR.

THERE'S ESSENTIALLY A BAROMETER AT THE TOP OF THE DOME AND IT MEASURES THE MILES PER HOUR ON THE DOME.

IF THE MILES PER HOUR HIT A CERTAIN AMOUNT, IT WILL OVER INFLATE THE DOME, SO THE DOME IS MORE STEADY.

ALSO, THERE'S A SNOW SENSOR, WHICH IS TIED INTO THE HVAC SYSTEM, WHICH SENSES AMOUNT OF MOISTURE IN THE AIR AND ALSO THE TEMPERATURE.

IF IT SENSES THAT IT MIGHT SNOW OR IT'S TOO COLD, IT WILL ALSO OVER INFLATE AND TURN THE HEAT UP.

IF IT DOES SNOW ON IT, IT WILL JUST HIT THE DOME AND MELT OFF TO THE SIDE.

THERE'S NEVER ANY CONCERN ABOUT THE DOME COMING DOWN BECAUSE OF TEMPERATURE OR BECAUSE OF WIND.

THAT'S REALLY A GREAT FUNCTION.

THEN THE CONCRETE FOUNDATION AROUND THE DOME IS SOMETHING THAT USTA PNW IS GOING TO TAKE CARE OF.

MAKE SURE WE POINTED THAT OUT. NOW NEXT SLIDE.

BUILDING OVERVIEW. IF YOU LOOK TO THE EAST OF EIGHT TENNIS COURTS. THANK YOU, JASON.

WE'LL BE A BUILDING THERE THAT WILL HOUSE OUR CHECK IN AREA, OUR BATHROOMS, STORAGE AREA, AS WELL AS A SMALL PRO SHOP.

THEN CAMAS SCHOOL DISTRICT WILL GET A NEW ACCESS POINT THERE AND A NEW EXIT POINT ALL THE WAY AROUND THE SIDE, AND THEN ADDITIONAL PARKING FOR THE DOME.

ALL THE WAY AROUND. LIKE I SAID EARLIER, THIS PROJECT IS NEAR AND DEAR TO MY HEART.

I HAVE THREE DAUGHTERS THAT PLAY HIGH SCHOOL TENNIS IN THE VANCOUVER AREA, AND I SEE WHAT THEY'VE GONE THROUGH.

WE HAD A SEASON TWO YEARS AGO WHERE THEY ONLY HAD 10 OUTDOOR PRACTICES AND MATCHES, SO THEY'RE TRYING TO FIT EVERYTHING IN ESSENTIALLY IN 10 DAYS.

TOUGH I LOVE WHAT THIS BRINGS TO THE CAMAS COMMUNITY AND THE CAMAS HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT ATHLETES.

>> WELL, HERE CONCLUDES OUR READING.

ALSO, TURN IT OVER TO BACK TO JOHN AND JASON, IF YOU WANTED TO PROVIDE SOME MORE DETAILS TO THE PARTNERSHIP AS WELL OR OPEN UP THEIR QUESTIONS, WHATEVER YOU'D LIKE.

>> I WOULD LIKE TO TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT WHAT THE VISION IS FOR OUR SIDE OF THIS PROJECT.

BEFORE I GET INTO SOME OF THOSE DETAILS, I SAY A COUPLE OF REMINDERS.

TENNIS IS A NO CUT SPORT.

IT'S VERY POPULAR.

I THINK THE NUMBER OF GIRLS THAT CAME OUT THIS YEAR, I WANT TO SAY WAS CLOSE TO 90, IS THAT RIGHT?

>> OVER 100.

>> OVER 100. EXCUSE ME. TRIPLE DIGITS.

THAT'S WONDERFUL, AND THIS FACILITY WOULD REALLY PROVIDE 100 PLUS OF OUR STUDENT ATHLETES THE SAME OPPORTUNITY AS THE BOYS IN THE FALL.

IT'S AN EQUITY ISSUE.

BUT THE FACT THAT IT'S A NO CUT SPORT IS VERY IMPORTANT TOO.

YOU WANT TO PLAY TENNIS, YOU'RE GOING TO GET THAT OPPORTUNITY TO PLAY TENNIS AND GET TO DO SO IN A DOME.

A COUPLE OF OTHER ASPECTS ABOUT THIS, THIS POTENTIAL INVESTMENT FOR THE SCHOOL DISTRICT IS THE CAPITAL IMPROVEMENTS THAT WE WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR.

[00:20:03]

BASICALLY, WE WOULD BE ADDING PARKING.

THIS IS A KEY THING.

WE ALREADY KNOW THAT THE PARKING AT CHS IS PRETTY PACKED ALREADY.

ANY SORT OF ADDITIONAL PARKING IMPACT THAT'S BEING ADDRESSED WITHIN THE SCOPE OF THIS.

WE'RE ALSO LOOKING AT THE TRAFFIC FLOW IMPACTS.

IF YOU ARE A PARENT, YOU ARE ABLE TO DRIVE IN HERE AND YOU'LL BE ABLE TO DROP OFF YOUR STUDENT ATHLETE IN THIS FRONT AREA AND THEN CONTINUE OUT AND AND NOT IMPACT THE OTHER PARKING AREAS.

THE FLOW SHOULD BE GOOD.

JUST AS A REMINDER, THIS IS OUR NEWEST ROAD THAT WE PUT IN, IT USES OUR EXIT ROAD.

THAT'S TO HELP THAT TRAFFIC FLOW GET PUSHED OUT AWAY FROM KIND OF THE FRONT EDGE ROAD, IF YOU WILL, FOR THE CAMPUS.

IT DOESN'T GO COUNTER TO WHAT WE'VE BEEN TRYING TO ACCOMPLISH, IT ACTUALLY FURTHER PROMOTES THAT.

THE BUILDING HERE IS ROUGHLY 20 BY 40.

IT'S PRETTY SIMPLE.

SMALL LOBBY, TWO BATHROOMS, AND THEN JUST ENOUGH AREA FOR VERY SIMPLE RETAIL.

IT'S NOT VERY EXTRAVAGANT.

IF YOU'VE BEEN TO THE VANCOUVER TENNIS CENTER, THIS IS A VERY SIMILAR ARRANGEMENT IS RUN AT VANCOUVER PUBLIC SCHOOLS.

IT'S ALSO IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE CITY OF VANCOUVER, AND YOU'D GET A GOOD FEEL. IT'S THE SAME THING.

USTA IS OPERATING A TENNIS CENTER THERE AND THEY DID THIS SEVERAL YEARS AGO.

THIS IS OBVIOUSLY UNIQUE TO OUR DISTRICT, BUT NOT TO THE AREA.

THIS IS FURTHERING THEIR MISSION AS USTA.

WE'RE SEEING AS A WONDERFUL OPPORTUNITY TO NOT JUST INVEST IN A NO CUT SPORT, BUT TO ALSO PROVIDE THOSE ENTRY OPPORTUNITIES FOR ELEMENTARY KIDS, WHICH IS A BIG PART OF THEIR FOCUS AND WE'RE SERVING THE GREATER COMMUNITY TOO.

THEY'RE GOING TO HAVE OPERATING HOURS, I THINK OF PROBABLY 9:00 AM-8:00 OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT.

>> [BACKGROUND]

>> I HAVE A QUESTION ABOUT THE PARKING.

THE PARKING IS ONLY FOR THE TENNIS USE, THOUGH.

YOU HAVE TO KEEP KIDS OUT OF THERE DURING THE DAY, RIGHT? PARKING HIGH SCHOOL KIDS, IT WOULD BE SOMEHOW BE BLOCKED OFF SO THE KIDS AREN'T TAKING THOSE SPOTS?

>> THAT'S CORRECT. [LAUGHTER]

>> WE'LL GET YOU A BRIGHT VEST.

WE'VE, FOR THE PAST PROBABLY 12 MONTHS, ROUGHLY A LITTLE BIT MORE THAN THAT, BEEN DOING A LOT OF DUE DILIGENCE, JUST TO SEE.

FIRST THIS STARTED AS A CONCEPT.

NOW, WE'VE DONE A LOT OF PRELIMINARY WORK TO SEE IF WE COULD ACCOMPLISH THIS.

SO FAR, I FEEL LIKE WE HAVE THE FUNDING IN THE CAPITAL PROJECTS FUND TO DO THIS, SO WE'RE NOT BURDENING THE GENERAL FUND.

THAT'S FIRST AND FOREMOST.

WE LOOKED AT ANY SORT OF LEGAL REQUIREMENTS, TITLE REPORT, WE'VE DONE PRELIMINARY WORK WITH THE CITY OF CAMAS JUST TO SEE, CONCEPTUALLY, WHAT WOULD WE HAVE TO DO.

WE UNDERSTAND THE LOGISTICS AND WE'VE STARTED THAT PROCESS WITH THEM ALREADY.

WE'VE GOT SURVEYORS READY TO GO AND LOCATE SOME LINES JUST SO WE KNOW WHAT SORT OF COSTS WE MIGHT EXPECT GOING IN TO CONNECT UP TO UTILITIES.

WHEN YOU HAVE BATHROOMS, YOU'VE GOT, OBVIOUSLY, WATER, SEWER, POWER.

WE'RE GOING TO HAVE LG GAS AS WELL, WHICH WE ALREADY HAVE AT THE FIELD HOUSE, SO WE CAN TAP IN ON THE BACK SIDE, WHICH SHOULD WORK NICELY, BECAUSE THAT'S WHERE I BELIEVE THE INFLATION UNITS WILL BE AT.

WE'VE DONE QUITE A BIT OF DUE DILIGENCE ALREADY, TRYING TO JUST SEE IF IT'S EVEN A VIABLE PARTNERSHIP,

[00:25:01]

AND IT DOES DEFINITELY LOOK AS THOUGH IT IS SO FAR.

IT'S A VERY POSITIVE, I THINK, OPPORTUNITY FOR US TO CONSIDER.

WE'RE WORKING THROUGH CERTAIN TERMS OF WHAT AN AGREEMENT MIGHT LOOK LIKE WITH OUR GOAL.

IF THE BOARD IS OBVIOUSLY OKAY WITH IT, WE'D LIKE TO PRESENT A DRAFT CONTRACT AND AN AGREEMENT IN THE NEXT BOARD MEETING FOR CONSIDERATION.

WHAT I WANTED TO USE TONIGHT IS, WHAT SORT OF QUESTIONS MAY WE ANSWER FOR YOU? WHAT SORT OF POTENTIAL CONCERNS MIGHT YOU HAVE? I WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT WE HAVE ENOUGH TIME FOR THAT, AND I KNOW THAT YOU'VE GOT OTHER FOLKS COMING FOR THIS EVENING.

>> I JUST WANT TO QUICKLY CLARIFY.

YOU SAID THIS WOULD COME OUT OF OUR CAPITAL BUDGET, WHICH IS MONEY THAT WE CAN USE FOR BUILDINGS.

THIS IS NOT GOING TO BE TAKING MONEY THAT WE COULD USE TO HIRE MORE TEACHERS OR AVOID FUTURE LAYOFFS OR TOUGH FINANCIAL TIMES.

>> YEAH, THIS IS FUNDING OUT OF THE CAPITAL PROJECTS FUND, SO THAT WE ACTUALLY HAVE FIVE DIFFERENT FUNDS THAT WE OPERATE.

WE HAVE THE GENERAL FUND, WHICH IS FOR OUR OPERATIONS, CAPITAL PROJECTS FUND, WHICH IS SEPARATE, JUST FOR CAPITAL INVESTMENTS, CAPITAL MAINTENANCE, DEBT SERVICE, JUST TO PAY OUR DEBT, OBVIOUSLY, TRANSPORTATION VEHICLE FUND, THAT'S WHAT WE USE TO PURCHASE OUR BUSES, AND THEN ASP.

EACH ONE OF THOSE FUNDS HAS A VERY DESIGNATED DEFINED STATUTORY PURPOSE, AND SO THIS ALIGNS WITH, OBVIOUSLY, CAPITAL, BECAUSE THIS WOULD BE A CAPITAL INVESTMENT.

THE OPERATIONAL SIDE, THE OPERATIONAL COSTS, USTA IS HANDLING INTO THE FUTURE.

THAT'S THE BENEFIT OF THIS AS WELL, IS THEY'RE OPERATING, THEY'RE TAKING ON THE HR, THE MARKETING, ALL OF THAT.

>> IT'S JUST WE HAVE TO BE REALLY CLEAR THAT AS OUR NEIGHBORS ARE CUTTING STAFF AND WE DID LAST YEAR AND MAYBE THIS NEXT YEAR, WHO KNOWS? MAKING SURE THAT IT'S REALLY CLEAR FOR OUR COMMUNITY, THAT THIS IS NOT IN ANY WAY GOING TO IMPACT WHAT WE NEED TO DO NEXT YEAR, BUT THIS IS ALL COMING OUT OF OUR CAPITAL BUDGET.

I JUST HAD A QUESTION, FOR COMMUNITY USE, IS THERE ARE A AS YOU USE IT FEE, OR DO YOU JOIN, OR HOW DOES THAT WORK?

>> YES, THERE IS A FEE.

WE HAVE AN ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP FEE, WHICH IS ABOUT $100 A YEAR, AND THEN IT'S A PAY TO PLAY MODEL.

WE ALSO OFFER NEED-BASED SCHOLARSHIPS.

FOR THOSE, PRICE IS NOT A BARRIER TO ENTRY.

WE WANT TO TRULY SERVE THE ENTIRE COMMUNITY.

>> SO YOU PAY $100 A YEAR, AND THEN YOU PAY EACH TIME YOU?

>> THAT'S CORRECT.

FOR PARTICIPATE IN A PROGRAM, OR PLAYING IN AN EVENT OR A TOURNAMENT, THOSE TYPE OF THINGS.

>> AWESOME.

>> PRICE POINTS.

>> WOULD THEN COMMUNITY ED BE ABLE TO HAVE TENNIS LESSONS OR WILL THERE BE LESSONS? I WANT TO LEARN HOW TO PLAY TENNIS.

I WANT NINE MORE YEARS ON MY LIFE.

>> AS ABOUT THAT AND SO WE'RE STILL LOOKING AT THE TERMS. BUT ALSO WHAT WE'RE EXCITED ABOUT IS WE'LL BE OFFERING THE PE TEACHERS CAN HAVE THEIR CLASSES AS WELL TO DO THAT IN THE FALL AND SPRING AT THE BUBBLE TENNIS CENTER.

THEN WE'RE ALSO EXCITED ABOUT THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL ACCESS BECAUSE WHAT WE'LL DO IS WE WILL PROVIDE EQUIPMENT AND TRAINING TO THE PE TEACHERS IN ALL THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS THAT THEY CAN PROVIDE THE IN SCHOOL PORTION OF TENNIS.

THEN IN THE AFTER SCHOOL SPACE, WE WOULD BE PROVIDING THAT.

AGAIN, WE PROVIDE NEED-BASED SCHOLARSHIPS AS WELL TO THAT PROGRAM THAT THE PRICE IS NOT A BARRIER TO ENTRY. YOU'RE WELCOME.

>> JASON, I HAD A QUESTION.

WITH OUR EXISTING TENNIS FACILITIES THAT WE HAVE, THE UNCOVERED COURTS, WE HAVE MAINTENANCE ON THOSE TYPES OF THINGS.

I KNOW WE HAD TALKED ABOUT IN THE FUTURE, EVEN IF WE DIDN'T DO THIS, THEY WOULD NEED TO BE RESURFACED SOMETIME SOON.

THE RESURFACING IS SOMETHING THAT'S COVERED BY USTA.

SO THAT'S A COST GOING INTO THE FUTURE THAT WE WOULDN'T END UP HAVING THEN, CORRECT?

>> YEAH, THAT'S CORRECT.

WE'VE MADE THAT ASSUMPTION THAT THAT'S AN INVESTMENT ON USTA STAMP FROM THEIR PERSPECTIVE.

>> IT'S NOT AN ASSUMPTION. IT'S A GUARANTEE.

>> YEAH, BUT I MEAN IN THE CALCULATION. YOU'RE RIGHT.

IF WE DON'T PURSUE THIS, WE CURRENTLY WE NEED TO RESURFACE THOSE SOON.

THERE'S AN EXISTING CRACK THAT IF YOU'VE BEEN THERE,

[00:30:04]

IT GOES ALONG THE CENTER THERE, AND THEN ALSO KIND OF SPIDERS OUT, AND SO WE'RE GOING TO NEED TO FIX THAT, AND THEY WOULD BE HANDLING THAT.

THAT'S AN AVOIDED COST THAT IS ON THEIR SIDE OF THE LEDGER.

>> NOT JUST ONE TIME, MIGHT I ADD AS WELL. IT'S OUR PLAN.

OBVIOUSLY, WE DO THIS WHEN THE BUBBLE IS BEING BUILT, BUT ALSO PROBABLY WE WANT TO RESURFACE COURTS EVERY 7-10 YEARS, AND THAT'S PART OF OUR PLAN AS WELL.

>> WE TALKED ABOUT THE COURT RESURFACING, BUT THEN IT BRINGS UP AN IDEA WHEN I SEE THIS PICTURE, WHAT ABOUT NET REPLACEMENT? IS THAT'S OKAY?

>> WE'RE GOING TO SHIFT COURTS OVER A LITTLE BIT MORE TO PROVIDE A LITTLE BIT MORE ROOM IN BETWEEN COURTS.

PLUS, WE'RE PUTTING NEW NETS IN.

WE'RE ALSO PUTTING NEW BACKDROPS BEHIND AND YOU'LL HAVE BRAND NEW LIGHTS.

>> THE REPLACEMENT NETS, DOES THAT COME TO CAMAS OR YOU ALWAYS DO THAT WHEN IT'S TIME FOR GOT YOU.

IN THE DEPARTMENT NO QUESTION IS A SILLY QUESTION BECAUSE I DON'T KNOW ABOUT THIS, BUT WHAT I HEAR IS THAT PICKLE BALL IS A REALLY BIG THING.

I'M CURIOUS IF WILL WE BE ASKED? WILL THAT BE A PART OF EVENING THINGS BECAUSE I UNDERSTAND THAT THEY USE TENNIS COURTS FOR A DIFFERENT SPORT CALLED PICKLEBALL, IS WHAT I UNDERSTAND.

>> WE'VE HEARD ABOUT PICKLEBALL.

>> YEAH.

>> WE WANT TO REMAIN FOCUSED ON THE TENNIS ASPECT.

I UNDERSTAND THAT THERE ARE OTHER FACILITIES AROUND THAT PROVIDE PICKLEBALL IN A PUBLIC SPACE AND WE BELIEVE THERE'S AMPLE OPPORTUNITY THERE, SO IT'D BE OUR FULL INTENTION TO KEEP THIS TENNIS SPECIFIC FOR THE TIME.

>> UNDERSTOOD. THANK YOU.

>> CAN I ADD TO THAT.

>> YEAH.

>> WE'RE ALSO LOOKING AT CARVING OUT CERTAIN HOURS WITH WHICH COMMUNITY ED COULD OFFER PROGRAMMING, AND THAT WOULD BE A TIME IN WHICH THEY COULD OFFER PICKLEBALL FOR PROGRAMMING, POTENTIALLY IN NON OPERATING HOURS OF USTA TENNIS CENTER.

THERE'S DEFINITELY A LOT OF IMPACTS.

THERE'S A LOT OF STAKEHOLDERS THAT WE HAVE TO THINK ABOUT.

WE ALSO HAVE A SOFTBALL FIELD NEXT DOOR AND WE HAVE BASEBALL AND WE HAVE A FIELD HOUSE AND THIS IS A VERY BUSY CAMPUS, AND SO WE HAVE TO BE COGNIZANT AND REALLY BE THINKING OF ALL STAKEHOLDERS HERE.

THAT'S AN IMPORTANT ONE, BUT WE ALSO WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT THIS DOESN'T IMPINGE UPON FIELD HOUSE OR SOFTBALL OR WHAT HAVE YOU, SO IT'S A VERY GOOD QUESTION, AND THERE IS A LARGE STAKEHOLDER GROUP TO CONSIDER.

>> THANK FOR CLARIFYING JASON I WAS SPEAKING ON THE US [INAUDIBLE] OPERATIONS, OBVIOUSLY, THE BILL TO PROMOTE MULTIPLE SERVICES.

>> I UNDERSTAND. YOU MENTIONED ALL AND IT'S BEEN A WHILE SINCE WE'VE BUILT A STRUCTURE AND SO WHEN YOU SAY THAT WE WILL BE BUILDING THE ENTRYWAY AND BATHROOMS, I'M SURE THAT IT'S BEING PUT INTO OUR THOUGHT PROCESS OF ALL GENDER INCLUSIVE BATHROOMS.

>> THEY WOULD JUST BE NONSPECIFIC BATHROOMS, BASICALLY TWO BATHROOMS.

>> ALL GENDER INCLUSIVE BATHROOMS. WONDERFUL. AWESOME. THANK YOU.

>> WITH PROBABLY ENOUGH ROOM TO POTENTIALLY CHANGE IN THOSE RESPECTIVELY.

>> CHANGING ROOMS.

>> GOT YOU.

>> JUST SO THEY COULD POTENTIALLY DRESS DOWN FOR TENNIS DURING THE WINTER AND THEN GET BUNDLED UP BEFORE THEY LEAVE.

>> GOT YOU.

>> CAN YOU PUT THE MAP BACK UP AT THE VERY BEGINNING? HOW CLOSE IS IT TO THE SOFTBALL FIELD? WHEN YOU SAID SOFTBALL, ARE THERE GOING TO BE FOUL BALLS RAINING DOWN ON THE ON TOP OF THE DOME OR IS IT IS IT FAR? THOSE IN THE NO DON'T PARK IN THAT LAST ROW WHEN THEY'RE WATCHING BECAUSE THE BALLS DO COME OUT THERE.

I'M JUST MAKING SURE BECAUSE THAT RIGHT BEHIND THAT TO THE RIGHT IS THE VARSITY SOFTBALL.

>> THAT'S CORRECT. IT'S OVER HERE.

>> TO MAKE SURE THAT YOU'VE BIG NET OR?

>> WE WERE TAKING THAT INTO CONSIDERATION AND HAVE TO OBVIOUSLY MAKE SURE THAT THERE'S PLENTY OF SPACING AND WON'T LET FOLKS PARK IN AREAS THAT WOULD BE SUBJECT TO FOUL BALL AREAS AND ACTUALLY, THIS IS A COUPLE OF DIFFERENT RENDITIONS.

THIS ONE ACTUALLY DOESN'T REALLY SHOW A SIGNIFICANT DROP OFF AREA.

WE'VE ALSO BEEN LOOKING AT POTENTIALLY CARVING OUT SOME OF THIS PARKING

[00:35:01]

SO THAT'S A WIDER SPOT FOR PARENTS TO PULL UP IN THE FRONT, SAFELY ALLOW THEIR STUDENT TO GET OUT AND GO INTO THE BUILDING BECAUSE WE ALL KNOW HOW THAT OPERATES AT OUR OTHER SCHOOL FACILITIES, IT CAN BE PRETTY FAST AND BUSY.

PARENTS ARE BUSY AND THEY WANT TO GET THEIR KIDDOS TO THEIR SPORT AND THEN MOVE ON TO THEIR NEXT THING. GOOD QUESTION.

>> ANY OTHER QUESTIONS FOR OUR GUESTS? I THINK THIS LOOKS LIKE A GREAT OPPORTUNITY.

THESE PARTNERSHIPS, I THINK ARE THE WAY OF THE FUTURE GOING FORWARD HERE FOR US, SO I'M EXCITED.

>> I WAS JUST GOING TO SAY THIS IS I DON'T KNOW, MAYBE ALMOST THE THIRD TIME I'VE HEARD BITS AND PIECES OF THIS.

I THINK IT'S SUPER EXCITING, ESPECIALLY AFTER LISTENING TO KELLY TALKING ABOUT AND HOW OFTEN GIRLS CAN'T, EVEN HAVING EIGHT COURTS AND 100 KIDS, HOW MUCH COURT TIME DO YOU GET? IT'S NOT VERY MUCH AND IF WE CAN INCREASE THAT WITH THE PARTNERSHIP FOR OUR STUDENTS AND COMMUNITY, I JUST THINK IT'S A WIN, WIN ALL AROUND. I'M REALLY EXCITED.

>> WE ARE TOO.

>> I WOULD JUST ECHO THAT CONNIE.

I KNOW WE SAT ON CAPITAL PROJECTS, SO WE'VE SEEN THESE PRESENTATIONS A LITTLE BIT BEFORE AND JUST UNDERSTANDING THE PROCESS AND LIKE YOU SAID, HEARING FROM KELLY AND HER STORY ABOUT HOW SHE PLAYED TENNIS AND JUST HEARING FROM THE GIRLS AND WHO ARE NOT ABLE TO PLAY OR CAN'T GET A RIDE HOME WHEN IT POURS DOWN RAIN AND PRACTICE IS CANCELED AND THEN THEY'RE STUCK AT SCHOOL FOR THREE HOURS OR WHAT HAVE YOU.

THERE'S A LOT OF BENEFITS TO THIS AND I'M REALLY EXCITED FOR IT.

>> THANK YOU SO MUCH.

>> THANK YOU.

>> WE'RE GOING TO PAUSE HERE FOR JUST A SECOND TO TRANSITION OVER TO OUR NEXT AGENDA ITEM, WHICH IS OUR CONTINUOUS GROWTH.

JUST ONE SECOND WHILE WE MOVE EVERYTHING AROUND.

[00:40:05]

I'M GOING TO BRING US BACK TO ORDER HERE. HOPEFULLY.

>> LUKE'S DOING A GREAT JOB.

>> I KNOW, I DON'T HAVE MY GAVEL RIGHT NOW SO I'LL KNOCK ON THE TABLE.

THERE WE GO. CONTINUOUS GROWTH, I'LL TURN IT OVER TO LISA GRETCHEN TO TELL US WHAT WE'RE DOING AND WHAT'S GOING ON.

>> THAT'S EXCELLENT. THANK YOU.

WE'RE SO GLAD TO BE HERE TONIGHT.

WE'RE SO GLAD YOU'RE HERE.

ORDINARILY, WE WOULD BE THERE, BUT THE CLICKER ISN'T WORKING, AND IT MAKES MORE SENSE TO STAND HERE THAN TO RELAY A MESSAGE TO SOMEONE ELSE TO ADVANCE A SCREEN.

AGAIN, THANK YOU FOR BEING HERE TONIGHT.

THIS IS ONE OF THE TIMES AS TIRED AS A SCHOOL YEAR CAN BE IN MAY, THAT IT RENEWS THAT EXCITEMENT ABOUT WHAT IT IS THAT WE ARE ABOUT AND THE WAYS IN WHICH WE SUPPORT OUR STUDENTS AND WHAT WE'RE LEARNING TOGETHER AS LEADERS.

TONIGHT IS OUR CONTINUOUS GROWTH BOARD WORKSHOP.

WE ALWAYS START WITH THIS REMINDER OF WHAT DO WE MEAN WHEN WE SAY CONTINUOUS GROWTH? BECAUSE AGAIN, IT'S A PHRASE THAT CAN MEAN MANY THINGS TO MANY PEOPLE.

WHAT IT MEANS TO US IS FIRST THAT WE ALWAYS KEEP THE FOCUS ON STUDENTS AND STUDENT LEARNING, THAT WE CONTINUE TO REFINE THE WAY WE LEARN AND WE WORK TOGETHER.

WE USE AN INQUIRY CYCLE AND PROGRESS MONITORING TO MAKE IMPORTANT ADJUSTMENTS.

THIS INCLUDES, AS I KNOW, THE BOARD ALWAYS WANTS TO HEAR ABOUT WHAT DATA ARE WE USING? THAT'S PART OF THE INQUIRY CYCLE IS WHAT DATA GUIDES US TO MAKE THE DECISIONS THAT WE DO AND ALSO WHAT DATA GUIDES US IN UNDERSTANDING WHETHER THE DECISIONS ARE MAKING A DIFFERENCE FOR OUR STUDENTS.

THEN FINALLY, TO ENGAGE IN ONGOING PROFESSIONAL LEARNING AND COLLABORATION.

THIS YEAR, WE HAVE THE ADDED FRAME OF OUR STRATEGIC PLAN WITH OUR DISTRICT MISSION AND VISION.

I THINK THAT AS YOU LISTEN TONIGHT AND YOU HEAR WHAT EACH OF OUR BUILDINGS IS CONNECTING WITH, YOU WILL SEE HOW THAT ALSO ALIGN SO PERFECTLY WITH OUR MISSION, WHICH NAMES IN THE MISSION, CONTINUOUS GROWTH AS WE WORK TO ADVANCE EQUITABLE OPPORTUNITIES AND OUTCOMES FOR EACH OF OUR STUDENTS.

AS WELL AS OUR VISION AND THAT IDEA OF A LEARNER WHO LOVES TO BE HERE WITH US TO LEARN, WHO SEES THAT WHEN WE ARE TOGETHER THAT WE'RE WORKING TOWARDS THE THINGS THAT WILL BRING INTEREST, ENGAGE, OFFER MULTIPLE AND MANY OPPORTUNITIES TO SUCCEED.

THIS IS OUR THEORY OF ACTION, WHICH AGAIN IS PART OF OUR STRATEGIC PLAN.

WHEN WE CREATE A CULTURE OF SAFETY AND BELONGING, PROVIDE HIGH QUALITY INSTRUCTION, AND BUILD PATHWAYS THAT RESPOND TO THE CHANGING NEEDS AND INTERESTS OF OUR STUDENTS, FAMILIES, AND COMMUNITY, WE WILL HELP EACH STUDENT LEARN AND GROW AND PREPARE THEM FOR A FUTURE OF ENDLESS POSSIBILITIES.

WHEN WE THINK ABOUT A THEORY OF ACTION, IT'S REALLY A CHAIN THAT SAYS, IF WE DO THIS, THEN THIS WILL HAPPEN.

NOTICE THE THREE HIGHLIGHTED PARTS OF THE THEORY OF ACTION, SO A CULTURE OF SAFETY AND BELONGING, WHICH IS REALLY WHAT PROVIDES THE GROUNDWORK FOR STUDENTS TO BE ENGAGED AND CONTINUE TO DEVELOP THAT SENSE OF WELL BEING.

THE HIGH QUALITY INSTRUCTION FOCUSES AGAIN ON THAT ENGAGEMENT AND RELEVANT LEARNING EXPERIENCES FOR EACH AND ALL OF OUR STUDENTS.

THEN FINALLY, PATHWAYS THAT ARE GEARED TOWARDS PERSONALIZING EACH STUDENT'S EXPERIENCE WITHIN A SYSTEM SO THAT WE HAVE THOSE EQUITABLE, INCLUSIVE LEARNING ENVIRONMENTS WHERE EACH OF OUR STUDENTS GROWS AND THRIVES.

THIS IS A PARTIAL GRAPHIC THAT YOU HAVE SEEN BEFORE FROM WHAT WE'RE REFERRING TO AS THE AT A GLANCE.

IT TAKES THOSE THREE PIECES OF OUR THEORY OF ACTION, A CULTURE OF SAFETY AND BELONGING, HIGH QUALITY INSTRUCTION AND RESPONSIVE PATHWAYS, WHICH ARE LISTED AND DEFINED ACROSS THE TOP.

IT LOOKS AT THEM BY WHAT ARE OUR STUDENT FACING PRACTICES, OUR LEADERSHIP PRACTICES, AND OUR ORGANIZATIONAL PRACTICES.

TONIGHT WE ARE FOCUSING ON LEADERSHIP AND ORGANIZATIONAL PRACTICES.

YOU SEE TOWARDS THE BOTTOM UNDER LEADERSHIP PRACTICES, THERE'S ONE STATEMENT THAT'S HIGHLIGHTED THERE, WHICH SPEAKS TO BUILDING, CREATING A MULTI TIERED SYSTEM OF SUPPORTS THAT WILL SUPPORT EVERY STUDENT, IN TERMS OF OUR ORGANIZATIONAL PRACTICES, YOU SEE IT THERE AS WELL.

OUR INTENTION AND THEREFORE, OUR WILL AND OUR ACTION ARE ORIENTED TOWARDS USING THE STRATEGIC PLAN AS A MAP THAT THEN SHOWS THE WAY THAT WE'RE GOING BASED ON THOSE PRIORITIES THAT WERE IDENTIFIED ACROSS OUR COMMUNITIES.

THEN FINALLY, I HAD BEEN LISTENING TO A BOOK LATELY CALLED ATOMIC HABITS BY JAMES CLEAR.

[00:45:07]

THIS QUOTE REALLY STOOD OUT FOR ME BECAUSE IT ENCAPSULATES WHAT WE HOPE THAT YOU WILL SEE TODAY AND HEAR AS OUR LEADERS TALK MORE ABOUT WHAT WE'RE DOING.

IT SAYS, "GOALS ARE ABOUT THE RESULTS YOU WANT TO ACHIEVE.

SYSTEMS ARE ABOUT THE PROCESSES THAT LEAD TO THOSE RESULTS.

YOU DO NOT RISE TO THE LEVEL OF YOUR GOALS.

YOU FALL TO THE LEVEL OF YOUR SYSTEMS." IT WAS ONE OF THOSE THAT I HAD TO AUDIO BOOKS.

YOU HAVE TO STOP THEM AND THEN TRY TO FIGURE OUT WHERE IT WAS SO THAT YOU CAN WRITE IT DOWN AGAIN.

BUT THIS IS SO TRUE WHEN IT COMES TO A MULTI TIERED SYSTEM OF SUPPORT.

WE HAVE GOALS.

WE HAVE NUMERICAL, MEASURABLE GOALS.

BUT ULTIMATELY, WHAT OUR WORK IS ABOUT IS ENSURING THAT OUR SYSTEMS ARE STRONG, THAT OUR SYSTEMS ENCOMPASS EVERY PART OF THE ACTIONS THAT WE TAKE TO SUPPORT OUR STUDENTS SO THAT THOSE SYSTEMS ARE RESILIENT AND WE WILL THEN MEET OUR OUTCOMES.

WE INTEND TO RISE TO THE LEVEL OF OUR SYSTEMS AND RISE TO THE LEVEL OF OUTCOMES FOR STUDENTS.

THEN I'M GOING TO TURN IT OVER TO KATIE, WHO WILL WALK US THROUGH WHAT THE PROTOCOL WILL BE TONIGHT.

>> GOOD JOB, LISA.

ARE YOU READY, HOW THIS IS GOING TO GO? EACH OF OUR PRINCIPALS HAS PREPARED TO TALK FOR JUST A FEW MINUTES ABOUT WHAT MTSS LOOKS LIKE IN ACTION IN THEIR SETTING AND SO WHAT YOU WILL HEAR FROM THEM TONIGHT IS AN EXAMPLE OR STORY OF THE WORK TOWARDS BUILDING A SYSTEM OF SUPPORTS THIS YEAR.

YOU'LL NOTICE THAT WHEN WE TALK ABOUT MTSS, THERE'S SO MANY DIFFERENT LAYERS OF THIS FROM HOW THINGS ARE ORGANIZED.

HOW DO WE GET THE RIGHT PEOPLE IN THE ROOM AT THE SAME TIME? MEASURING STUDENT PROGRESS FOR BEHAVIOR, SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING, ACADEMICS.

THERE'S TONS OF LAYERS TO THIS, AND SO YOU'RE GOING TO HEAR THINGS THAT ARE VERY DIFFERENT FROM OUR LEADERS TONIGHT, WHICH IS AWESOME BECAUSE IT'LL GIVE YOU A REALLY BIG SCOPE OF WHAT THIS LOOKS LIKE AND HOW IT IMPACTS OUR STUDENTS.

THEN THE OTHER QUESTIONS, THOSE FOLLOW UP QUESTIONS ARE WHAT HAS BEEN LEARNED? WHAT IMPACT IS IT HAVING OR WILL IT HAVE? THEN WHAT'S NEXT? THEY ONLY HAVE A FEW MINUTES.

I'LL TALK ABOUT THE PROTOCOL IN JUST A SECOND.

THEY ONLY HAVE A FEW MINUTES TO GET THROUGH A LOT AND SO WE TRIED TO HONE IN ON A SPECIFIC EXAMPLE OR STORY, SO JUST KNOW THAT IT'S GOING TO FEEL LIKE YOU'RE GOING TO WANT TO HEAR A LOT MORE, I THINK.

IF YOU LOOK AROUND THE ROOM, THERE ARE GROUPS ALREADY NUMBERED OR LABELED ON THE WALLS, AND THEY GO IN COUNTER CLOCKWISE ORDER, WHICH IS BACKWARDS TO ME, RIGHT? YEAH, THEY'RE GOING THIS WAY.

YOU'LL SEE THAT COREY YOU'LL START IN 1.

YOU'LL EACH BE AT A TABLE HERE, AND WE HAVE THREE-ISH SCHOOLS AT EACH PLACE.

GROUP 1 IS ODYSSEY, DISCOVERY, HAYES, AND CAMAS CONNECT ACADEMY.

GROUP 2 WILL BE CAMAS HIGH SCHOOL, LIBERTY, AND SKYRIDGE.

GROUP 3 IS FOX, GRASS VALLEY, AND PRUNE HILL, AND GROUP 4 IS BALLER, LACAMAS LAKE, AND WOODBURN.

DISTRICT LEADERS, WHO'S ASSIGNED TO GROUP 1? RAISE YOUR HAND. WHO'S WITH ODYSSEY, DISCOVERY? THERE THEY ARE.

GROUP 2, CAMAS HIGH SCHOOL? THAT'S SHERRI AND MARILYN.

GROUP 3? DOUG AND JEN.

THEN I'M GROUP 4 WITH THAT GUY.

PERFECT. YOU'LL GET TO YOUR GROUP IN JUST A SECOND.

HERE'S WHAT YOU'RE GOING TO DO.

THIS IS WHERE YOU'RE GOING TO HAVE TO PAY CLOSE ATTENTION.

EACH PRINCIPAL OR LEADER IS GOING TO HAVE SIX MINUTES TO SHARE, AND THAT INCLUDES TIME FOR QUESTIONS, SO THAT'S NOT VERY LONG.

BOARD MEMBERS, YOU'LL SEE THAT THERE ARE GRAPHIC ORGANIZERS AT EACH OF THE TABLES, THAT'S A SPOT FOR YOU WHILE SOMEONE IS SHARING FOR YOU TO WRITE DOWN ANY QUESTIONS YOU MIGHT HAVE, AND THEN YOU MAY ONLY GET TO ONE OR TWO QUESTIONS PER PERSON, SO JUST BE AWARE OF TIME.

ONE OF THE PEOPLE WHO RAISED THEIR HAND JUST A SECOND AGO IS GOING TO BE A TIME KEEPER AND GIVE A SIGNAL AT FOUR MINUTES.

WE'LL JUST HAVE OUR TIMER GOING ON OUR PHONES SO WE CAN SEE HOW LONG WE HAVE.

THEN AT SIX MINUTES, THAT PERSON IN THE GROUP HAS TO TRANSITION THE GROUP TO THE NEXT SPEAKER, SO TRY TO BE COGNIZANT OF THAT.

LIKE I SAID, THERE'S TWO PEOPLE AT EACH GROUP, SO A FACILITATOR WILL HELP FACILITATE THE PROCESS,

[00:50:01]

AND THEN AT ABOUT 19 MINUTES, SO WE'RE GOING TO TRY TO GET ALL THE THREE OR FOUR PRINCIPALS AT ONE TABLE TO BE DONE IN THAT 19ISH MINUTES.

WE HAVE A MINUTE TO TRANSITION TO THE NEXT TABLE AND DO IT ALL OVER AGAIN.

THEY'RE GOING TO DO THE SAME THING FOUR TIMES.

I HEAR A LOT OF RUMBLING OVER THERE.

WHAT WILL COME AFTER IS A DEBRIEF, SO DOUG'S GOING TO HOST A DEBRIEF, AND THESE QUESTIONS ARE ALSO ON THE BACK OF THE SHEET THAT'S AT THE TABLES.

SO YOU'LL HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY TO LOOK AT THE REFLECTION QUESTIONS.

BUT IT'S GOOD SOMETIMES TO FRAME YOUR THINKING AHEAD OF TIME.

BOARD MEMBERS, AS YOU'RE LISTENING, WHAT DID YOU HEAR OR SEE THAT DEEPENS OR EXTENDS YOUR OWN UNDERSTANDING OF MTSS? WHAT ARE YOU EXCITED ABOUT? WHAT DO YOU HAVE QUESTIONS ABOUT? THEN WHAT DO YOU WANT OUR SCHOOL AND DISTRICT LEADERS TO KNOW AS WE CONTINUE THIS WORK TOGETHER? SO JUST SOME OF THE IDEAS THAT ARE COMING TO YOU AS YOU'RE HEARING FROM OUR PRINCIPALS.

SO THAT'S ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE PAPER THAT'S AT THE TABLES. SO IT'S TWO-SIDED.

ARE THERE QUESTIONS BEFORE WE MOVE TO OUR TABLES? YEAH. THERE'S A LITTLE WORKSHEETS AND PENS AT EACH TABLE READY FOR YOU.

YEAH.

>> [BACKGROUND] .

>> THANK YOU. THAT MAKES SENSE? ARE WE GOOD? QUESTIONS FROM THE CROWD.

LET'S HEAD TO OUR TABLES.

>> YOU GUYS ARE DONE?

>> YEAH.

>> GOOD.

>> WITH THAT, OUR FACILITATORS HAVE INDICATED THAT EACH GROUP IS DONE.

WE'RE GOING TO HAVE BOARD MEMBERS COME BACK TO THEIR SEATS AT THE U SHAPED TABLE.

THAT FIVE OR SIX MINUTES IS A CONDENSED VERSION OF AN INCREDIBLE AMOUNT OF WORK OVER THE LAST TWO YEARS, I WOULD SAY.

OUR PRINCIPALS HAVE REALLY TAKEN THIS ON AND GROWN JUST THIS YEAR ALONE A TON, AND HOPEFULLY YOU WERE ABLE TO SEE HOW THAT'S IMPACTING OUR STUDENTS AS WELL.

I GOT TO LISTEN TO THE ELEMENTARIES OVER HERE AND I'M JUST IMPRESSED BY THE DATA, THE ENERGY, THE SUPPORT THAT THEY GIVE TO THEIR STAFF AND THEIR STUDENTS.

SO HOPEFULLY YOU FELT THAT TOO AS YOU GOT TO TOUR AROUND.

WITH THAT, WE ARE GOING TO HAVE A DEBRIEF WITH YOU ALL.

DOUG?

>> THANK YOU. BOARD MEMBERS, ON THE BACK OF YOUR PAPER THAT YOU WERE TAKING NOTES ON ARE THESE QUESTIONS.

I'M GOING TO GIVE YOU A LITTLE BIT OF TIME TWO OR THREE MINUTES.

YOU ALREADY HAVE SOME OF THIS DOWN, BUT I'M GOING TO GIVE YOU TWO TO THREE MINUTES BECAUSE THAT WAS A LOT OF INFORMATION, AND THESE ARE KIND OF BIG QUESTIONS THAT I WANT TO GIVE YOU A LITTLE BIT OF TIME TO KIND OF THINK ABOUT.

SO TAKE A COUPLE OF MINUTES, AND THEN WE'LL COME BACK, AND WE'VE GOT MOST OF OUR PRINCIPALS ARE STILL HERE IN CASE YOU HAVE SPECIFIC QUESTIONS FROM THIS.

[00:55:39]

GO AHEAD AND BE WRAPPING UP YOUR LAST THOUGHTS.

BEFORE WE GET STARTED WITH THIS FIRST QUESTION, I WANT TO MAKE SURE AND POINT OUT THE FOLKS THAT ARE IN THIS ROOM TONIGHT AND THAT YOU GOT TO HEAR FROM TONIGHT, I WAS AT ONE TABLE BUT I WOULD IMAGINE THAT AT MOST TABLES, YOU HEARD THEM TALKING ABOUT THEIR STAFF.

WHAT THEIR TEACHERS ARE DOING AND WHAT THEIR PARENTS ARE DOING, WHAT THEIR KIDS ARE DOING.

THEY OFTEN DO NOT TALK ABOUT THEMSELVES. THAT'S JUST THEIR NATURE.

I WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT WE HONOR WHO THEY ARE AND WHAT THEY'VE DONE IN THIS WORK, AND WE WOULD NOT BE ANYWHERE NEAR WHERE WE ARE RIGHT NOW WITHOUT OUR BUILDING LEADERS.

THANK YOU GUYS FOR COMING.

[APPLAUSE] WITH THE FIRST QUESTION, WHAT DID YOU HEAR OR SEE THAT DEEPENS OR EXTENDS YOUR OWN UNDERSTANDING OF MTSS? THIS IS JUST OPEN TO THE BOARD MEMBERS.

GO AHEAD AND LET US KNOW WHAT YOUR THOUGHTS ARE, AND WE'LL GO FROM THERE.

>> I HEARD NEEDS OR OBSERVATIONS THAT CROSSED ELEMENTARY INTO SECONDARY.

I'M GOING OFF OF WHAT DEEPENS OR EXTENDS.

BUT WHAT I HEARD AND SAW WAS THAT THERE WERE THESE CROSS TOPICS THAT WERE NOT JUST ELEMENTARY SPECIFIC, THAT WERE NOT JUST MIDDLE SCHOOL SPECIFIC, BUT THERE WAS A TIE IN, SOMETHING OF RELEVANCE THAT COULD BE LEARNED OR SHARED ACROSS SECONDARY TO ELEMENTARY.

I'M CURIOUS HOW THAT GETS PASSED DOWN.

ONE GROUP TALKED ABOUT INFORMATION BEING HELD AT A LEVEL WITH A PERSON SPECIFIC VERSUS A PROCESS AND HOW YOU HAVE TO MAKE THE PROCESS SO THAT WHEN THAT PERSON LEAVES, SAME THING WITH THE CROSS FUNCTIONALITY AND THAT'S WHERE I'M WONDERING HOW THOSE CAN GET SHARED SO PEOPLE CAN LEARN IF I'M A FOURTH GRADE TEACHER, BUT I'M AT THIS SCHOOL AND WE'RE TALKING ABOUT THIS TOPIC SPECIFICALLY.

BUT I DID NOT KNOW THAT THEY WERE DOING THAT AT SKY RIDGE MIDDLE SCHOOL.

HOW DO WE GET OUR HANDS ON THEIR LESSONS LEARNED AND WHAT THEY'RE DOING AND HOW CAN THAT CROSS OVER AND CROSS POLLINATE A BIT?

>> I'LL JUST JUMP IN. I LOVED ALL THE HANDOUTS.

THIS WAS MY LAST GROUP I WAS JUST IN, BUT I LOVED THIS ONE.

JUST HOW IT HELPS ME UNDERSTAND MTSS MORE AND DEEPEN MY KNOWLEDGE OF IT AND JUST SHOWING THAT ALL THESE SUPPORTS ARE HAPPENING.

THIS SPECIFIC STUDENT IS GETTING ALL OF THESE DIFFERENT SUPPORTS, JUST HAVING THIS HERE IN FRONT OF ME AND SEEING IT AND UNDERSTANDING THAT IT IS HAPPENING IN THE CLASSROOMS AT ALL THESE DIFFERENT LEVELS.

I ENJOYED THAT PART. THANK YOU.

>> I ALSO ENJOYED ALL THE HANDOUTS.

IT MADE IT MUCH EASIER TO UNDERSTAND.

BUT LET ME JUST SUGGEST ONE THING IF WE DO THIS AGAIN IS THAT I PREFER TO HAVE TIME TO DEBRIEF AFTER EACH ONE OF THESE TABLES JUST BECAUSE I'M TRYING TO FIGURE OUT, I REMEMBER WHAT I HEARD AND IT JUST WASN'T ENOUGH TIME FOR ME TO WRITE THINGS DOWN.

JUST THE THOUGHT. JUST BECAUSE IT'S ME.

WHEN IT COMES TO LEARNING, I FEEL LIKE I'M

[01:00:01]

CONTINUOUSLY LEARNING FROM ALL OF YOU AS TO WHAT'S HAPPENING.

EVERY TIME I'VE HEARD THIS, I'VE LEARNED SOMETHING NEW OR I FEEL IT'S GETTING SOLIDIFIED.

I'M GETTING IT MORE AND MORE AS TO WHAT'S HAPPENING.

I LEARNED THE THEMES FOR COLLABORATION, CONTINUOUS LEARNING AND GROWTH, TEAMWORK.

LIKE YOU SAID, IT DOESN'T HAPPEN WITHOUT GREAT LEADERSHIP.

WHAT I CAME OUT WITH IS THAT THIS IS HARD WORK AND EVERYONE IN THIS ROOM IS, TO ME, FEELS LIKE SO COMMITTED TO COMPLETE FROM FOUNDATION TO FOLLOW THROUGH TO THEY'RE GOING TO SIT BACK ONE DAY AND WATCH IT ALL JUST BLOOM.

IT MADE ME HAPPY AND MADE MY HEART HAPPY TO KNOW THAT IT'S HAPPENING RIGHT HERE AND IT'S A LOT OF WORK.

>> [INAUDIBLE].

>> I WOULD ADD TO THAT, I FEEL LIKE YOU'RE ALREADY SEEING IT BLOOM.

>> THAT'S WHAT'S SO EXCITING TO ME.

I HAD WRITTEN DOWN THE SYNERGY THAT YOU'RE SEEING, THE SYSTEM CREATION, THE ABILITY TO QUICKLY IMPLEMENT STRATEGIES AND SEE THE RESULTS.

WE SEEM VERY NIMBLE IN BEING ABLE TO ADDRESS THE NEEDS OF OUR KIDS AND I DON'T KNOW THAT WE'VE HAD A SYSTEM THAT ENABLED THAT NIMBLENESS.

INDIVIDUAL TEACHERS WOULD AS THEY DO IN CLASSES, BUT I FEEL LIKE OUR SYSTEM IS BUILDING THAT IN.

I FEEL LIKE THE GOALS ARE VERY CLEAR, AND THEN THERE'S DATA TO SUPPORT THE GROWTH AND WHERE WE ARE IN THAT.

IT'S NOT ALWAYS SUNSHINE AND ROSES.

THERE ARE TIMES THAT IT'S UP AND DOWN AND WE LEARN AND WELL, THAT WASN'T QUITE RIGHT, BUT IT SEEMS LIKE THERE'S AS WE WANT THIS FALLING DOWN AS PART OF THE PROCESS, YOU GET BACK UP AND THEN YOU GO A DIFFERENT DIRECTION.

I'M REALLY LOOKING FORWARD TO NEXT YEAR'S ANALOGIES.

[LAUGHTER] I LOVED THOSE. LOVE THEM.

>> BOARD.

>> YEAH. WEIGHING BOARDING AND TRIPPING ON A SIDEWALK.

>> PROBABLY YOU MISSED [INAUDIBLE]. [LAUGHTER]

>> I'LL CATCH UP. I REALLY LIKED THAT THERE'S SOME HONEST CONVERSATIONS AND SOME REDIRECTION AND SOME THINGS THAT WE TRIED THIS AND THAT REALLY WASN'T EXACTLY IT.

WE'RE GOING TO GO THIS OTHER DIRECTION.

AGAIN, I THINK IT'S REALLY HARD WORK.

GOD, IF WE COULD HAVE THIS ON EVERY KID.

ESPECIALLY AS THEY GET OLDER.

I WORK AT A HIGH SCHOOL AND LIKE, IF I COULD HAVE THIS ON A KID, COULD YOU IMAGINE THESE MANY PROGRESS MONITORING AND ONE-ON-ONES AND EVERYTHING.

NOT FUN I LIVE IN A DREAM WORLD BUT THIS IS AMAZING, THE LEVEL OF INFORMATION THAT WE HAVE ABOUT OUR KIDS, THE WAY TEACHERS ARE MEETING KIDS.

ONE, THEY KNOW WHERE EACH KID IS AND THEN MEETING THEM THERE AND HELPING THEM GROW.

I JUST THINK IT'S AMAZING.

I'M SUPER EXCITED AFTER TALKING WITH YOU GUYS.

WE JUST GET TO POP IN TWICE A YEAR, SAY, OH, THIS IS GREAT.

WE KNOW THAT IT TAKES BLOOD, SWEAT AND TEARS TO GET TO THIS POINT AND APPRECIATE EVERY DROP OF BLOOD AND SWEAT DROP AND TEAR.

YOU GUYS ARE DOING AN AMAZING JOB, AND THAT'S WHY WE'RE WHERE WE ARE AS A DISTRICT, A LOT OF HARD WORK AHEAD. THAT'S ALL I GOT.

>> I'LL JUST QUICKLY ADD TO THAT.

I LIKE HEARING ABOUT ESPECIALLY A COUPLE OF DIFFERENT TABLES USING THE TFI DOCUMENTS AND THAT THOSE ARE A HELPFUL PROTOCOL FOR SEEING WHAT WE'VE ALREADY GOT.

I JUST APPRECIATE AS AN EDUCATOR TOO THAT WHEN WE'RE DOING THIS, IT'S NOT JUST STARTING COMPLETELY OVER.

THIS IS SOME NEW INITIATIVE THAT NOW OKAY EVERYTHING WE'VE BEEN DOING FOR TEN YEARS, FORGET THAT.

LET'S REALLY LOOK AT WHAT WE'RE ALREADY DOING WELL AND ACKNOWLEDGE THESE THINGS ARE GOING WELL, AND WE CAN BRING THESE NEW THINGS IN BY POPPING IN WITH OUR NEIGHBOR OR TWEAKING THIS LITTLE THING THAT WE'RE ALREADY DOING TO MAKE IT EVEN BETTER.

I APPRECIATE THAT ABOUT MTSS, THAT IT'S NOT JUST LIKE RIGHT NOW HERE'S SOMETHING NOW FOR SOMETHING COMPLETELY DIFFERENT.

LIKE THE MONTY PYTHON THING.

THAT'S JUST SOMETHING THAT MAKES ME EXCITED ABOUT THIS.

IT FEELS LIKE IT'S BUILDING ON WHAT WE'RE ALREADY DOING WELL, HELPING TO IDENTIFY WHERE WE CAN DO BETTER.

>> WITH TONIGHT, WHAT ARE SOME QUESTIONS YOU HAVE, AND THEN I'M GOING TO COMBINE IT WITH THE LAST ONE.

LIKE, WHAT DO YOU WANT OUR BUILDING AND OUR DISTRICT LEADERS TO KNOW

[01:05:01]

AS WE CONTINUE TO WORK IN THIS WORK AND WORK TOGETHER? I THINK I SAID THIS AT A COUPLE OF THE GROUPS THAT I WAS AT, BUT I REALLY APPRECIATE THE CONSISTENCY BETWEEN BUILDINGS THAT I SEE AND BETWEEN LEADERS SO THAT STUDENTS WE KNOW THEY'RE ALL GETTING ACCESS TO THE SAME SUPPORTS AND SYSTEMS SO THAT A STUDENT AT WOODBURN HAS THE SAME CHANCES OF SUCCESS, I GUESS, AS A STUDENT AT GRASSVILLE.

I'M JUST USING TWO SCHOOLS, FOR EXAMPLE.

BUT I HOPE THAT WE KEEP GETTING OPPORTUNITIES NOT ONLY FOR OUR GRADE LEVELS AND SUBJECT LEVELS TO LEARN FROM EACH OTHER, BUT ALSO FOR BUILDINGS TO KEEP COLLABORATING WITH EACH OTHER A LOT LIKE I HEAR, EVEN JUST SITTING IN SOME OF THESE GROUPS THAT IT'S GREAT TO HEAR THAT SOME OF OUR LEADERS ARE LEARNING THINGS TONIGHT, THINGS THAT THEY DIDN'T KNOW WERE HAPPENING AT OTHER BUILDINGS OR GETTING A CHANCE TO EVEN ASK SOME QUESTIONS WHEN THE TIMEKEEPERS WOULD ALLOW IT.

[LAUGHTER] I JUST HOPE THAT WE KEEP LOOKING FOR THOSE OPPORTUNITIES TO KEEP BUILDING THAT CONSISTENCY.

I KEEP SAYING, WHEN WE DO OUR SITE VISITS, IT'S SO COOL TO SEE THE SAME THINGS GOING ON, WHETHER WE'RE AT A THIRD GRADE CLASSROOM IN THIS BUILDING OR THAT.

THAT CONSISTENCY TO ME IS SOMETHING THAT'S IMPORTANT TO ME AS A BOARD MEMBER.

I WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT YOUR CHANCES OF SUCCESS ARE NOT PRE-DETERMINED BASED ON WHAT ATTENDANCE BOUNDARY YOU HAPPEN TO LIVE IN.

>> I WOULD JUST SORRY, THE CONSISTENCY THAT YOU SAID, COREY AND SITTING OVER AT THAT TABLE, WE'VE DONE THIS A NUMBER OF TIMES AND SEEN THE SAME THINGS OVER AGAIN AND SEEN THE TOOLS THAT YOU GUYS SHOWED US OVER THERE, AND THEN WE SEE THEM IN THE CLASSROOM AND THEN WE SEE THEM AGAIN.

IT'S NOT JUST LIKE A ONE YEAR AND NOW WE'RE NOT USING THOSE TOOLS ANYMORE.

WE'VE SEEN THEM OVER AGAIN AND THEY'RE WORKING.

ANOTHER THING I MENTIONED THAT I THINK I SAID TO EVERYBODY IS I THINK EVERYBODY MENTIONED THE WEDNESDAYS AND HOW MUCH THEY LOVE THE WEDNESDAYS AND THE TIME THEY GET FOR THE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT ON THE WEDNESDAYS.

I KNOW IN THE BEGINNING, THERE'S A LITTLE BIT OF, FRICTION OF WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO WITH THAT OR IS EVERY CHANGE IS HARD FOR PEOPLE, BUT IT SOUNDS LIKE THEY'RE SUCCESSFUL.

I'M HAPPY THAT YOU GUYS ARE UTILIZING THOSE AND THEY'RE WORKING OUT.

ALSO JUST WANT YOU GUYS TO KNOW THAT THIS IS HARD WORK AND WE SEE THE HARD WORK.

WE JUST SIT IN HERE FOR AN HOUR OR HOWEVER LONG IT IS TONIGHT AND YOU GUYS ARE DOING THIS ALL THE TIME.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE HARD WORK THAT YOU GUYS ARE ALL DOING.

THE DATA THAT YOU SHOW US SUPPORTS THAT.

WE LOVE SEEING DATA AND DIGGING INTO THAT AND IT'S SUPPORTING ALL THE WORK THAT YOU GUYS ARE DOING FOR ALL OF OUR STUDENTS. THANK YOU.

>> THE DATA IS SUPER EXCITING.

I DON'T WANT TO SINGLE OUT THE WINS THAT WE HEARD TONIGHT BECAUSE I KNOW THAT THERE'S WINS THAT WEREN'T SHARED WITH US TONIGHT, BUT LIKE THOSE OF YOU THAT SHARED WITH US CERTAIN TEACHERS THAT GOT DATA BACK AND HOW EXCITING THAT MUST FEEL AND HOW REJUVENATING TOWARDS THE END OF THE YEAR WHEN YOU'RE PROBABLY SEEING THAT MOOD OF BUT WHEN YOU SEE THAT WIN AND THAT JUSTIFICATION THAT THIS HARD WORK IS WORKING, IT'S SUCH A GREAT THING.

I THINK WHAT I HAVE REALLY APPRECIATED ABOUT THIS YEAR IN PARTICULAR IS ABOUT LETTERS AND HEARING FROM IT LAST YEAR AND THIS YEAR AND EVERYBODY WORKING ON THE SAME THING.

I THINK WE AS A BOARD ARE ABLE TO FOLLOW THE PROGRESS MORE AND EASIER, WAS THAT YOUR IDEA TOO? BUT ISN'T THAT GREAT, THOUGH, THAT WE'RE SEEING THAT AND IT'S MORE, SOMETIMES WE CAN FLEET IN AND FLEET OUT OF PRACTICES, AND WE HEAR SO MUCH THROUGHOUT THE YEAR TO BE ABLE TO BUILD ON OUR KNOWLEDGE OF WHAT EVERYBODY IS HEARING AND LEARNING AND SEEING AND THE ADAPTING PART, I THINK IS REALLY EXCITING.

I THINK MY KEY TAKEAWAY IF I CAN POP INTO THE WHAT DO WE WANT LEADERS AND STAFF TO KNOW? WHAT I HEARD IS THAT CULMINATED DATA IS VITAL.

WE GOT TO FIGURE OUT A WAY FOR THAT DATA OF ALL THOSE DIFFERENT THINGS TO BE EASIER TO CULMINATE AND TO FOLLOW THAT STUDENT FROM ELEMENTARY TO MIDDLE TO HIGH.

THERE'S GOT TO BE A WAY BECAUSE THAT TELLS A BIGGER STORY.

[01:10:03]

IF WE GET A KID WHO COMES IN, THEIR 10TH GRADE YEAR, BOOM, THEY TAKE THREE DIFFERENT TESTS, I CAN'T REMEMBER WE DON'T KNOW THIS.

WE HAVEN'T FOLLOWED THIS KID SINCE KINDERGARTEN.

WE GOT THEM AS 10TH GRADERS AND WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT WE GRADUATE THIS 10TH GRADER.

THOSE THREE TESTS PULLED TOGETHER, HOW DO WE DO THAT? HOW DO WE GET A QUICK SNAPSHOT OF THE STUDENT? HOW DO WE HELP THEM EFFECTIVELY, EFFICIENTLY AND CONTINUE TO SUPPORT THEM UNTIL THAT DAY THAT THEY GRADUATE? I THINK THAT IS WHAT'S STICKING WITH ME THE MOST AND THAT OTHER ONE OF KNOWLEDGE SHARING.

KNOWLEDGE TRANSFERRING, PROCESSES AND KNOWLEDGE TRANSFERRING, AND THAT'S AN OPEN ENDED, THAT'S GOING TO BE A DOT QUESTION MARK.

>> WOULDN'T IT BE AWESOME IF CUMULATIVE WOULD BE THAT SYSTEM THAT WE'RE TALKING ABOUT? EVERYTHING ALL IN ONE PLACE ABOUT A KID WIN GREAT.

>> YOU JUST SAID TAKE THAT ELEMENTARY STUDENT.

WHAT IF YOU HAD IT FOR HIGH SCHOOL?

>> WHAT A SYSTEM THAT DID ALL OF THAT? ALSO, I WAS GOING TO PIGGYBACK TO COREY WHAT YOU SAID, WE GO INTO YOUR SCHOOLS MAYBE ONCE OR TWICE A YEAR AND MEET WITH YOU TWICE A YEAR.

IF WE HAVE AT MOST FOUR TOUCH POINTS, AND WE CAN FEEL THE ENTHUSIASM AND SEE THE GROWTH AND FEEL THE PROCESSES, I CAN'T IMAGINE WHAT IT'S LIKE FOR YOUR KIDS TO EXPERIENCE THAT ALL DAY.

ALSO, TWO QUESTIONS.

I THINK OF THESE KIDS WHO ARE DOING THE LETTERS, LEARNING AND LEARNING THAT WAY AND WHEN THEY GET TO MIDDLE SCHOOL AND THEY GET TO HIGH SCHOOL, WHAT DO WE NEED TO PREPARE OR DO DIFFERENTLY TO ALIGN SOME OF THOSE STRATEGIES.

IT SEEMS SO AMAZING IN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL AND PART OF IT IS THE KIDS CHANGE.

BUT THEN WHEN YOU GO TO MIDDLE SCHOOL, ARE THERE SOME THINGS THAT CAN BRIDGE THAT FOR OUR KIDS THAT THEN THEY CAN TAKE INTO HIGH SCHOOL THAT AREN'T LIKE SAND TRAYS AND SOME OF THE VERY THE MANIPULATIVES THAT WE USE.

BUT WHAT ARE SOME OF THOSE CORE LEARNING OR VOCABULARY OR SOMETHING THAT CAN FOLLOW A KID ALL THE WAY THROUGH.

THEN ALSO, MY QUESTION WOULD BE, WHAT DO YOU NEED? THIS IS A LOT OF WORK.

WHAT DO YOU NEED? WHAT DOES YOUR STAFF NEED? WHAT CAN WE DO TO HELP YOU FURTHER AND CONTINUE THIS WORK? IT'S LIKE YOU'RE ON A MARATHON AND WE NEED MORE WATER STATIONS OR SOMETHING.

LET US KNOW WHAT YOU NEED TO CONTINUE THIS GROWTH.

NOW THAT'S ALL I HAVE TO DO.

>> A COMPUTER PROGRAM THAT CULMINATES ALL THE DATA? I THINK THEY'VE SAID EVERYTHING I WOULD'VE WANTED TO SAY AS WELL.

BUT ALSO, SERIOUSLY, WHAT COREY SAID ABOUT GIVING EVERYONE THE SAME OPPORTUNITY AT ALL THESE SCHOOLS THAT ONE ISN'T WISHING TO BE AT ONE PLACE AND NOT THE OTHER.

THAT'S VERY IMPORTANT.

I LIKE SOMETHING THAT WAS MENTIONED EARLIER, CULTURE OF COMMUNICATION AND CONNECTION.

I THINK THERE SHOULD BE THAT.

I HOPE THAT CONTINUES ACROSS, ELEMENTARY MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL.

IT'S A LOT OF GREAT WORK THAT'S GOING ON, AND THAT WAS IT.

SOMETHING SIMILAR TO MY CHART OR SOMETHING WHERE YOU CAN LOOK UP AND KNOW THIS KID'S HISTORY, KNOW THE SERVICES THAT HAVE BEEN PROVIDED, KNOW WHERE THEY'RE AT, AND I WISH THAT SYSTEM EXISTED BECAUSE IT'S VERY HARD.

I ALWAYS WANT THE COUNSELORS OR TEACHERS TO COMMUNICATE FROM ELEMENTARY INTO MIDDLE SCHOOL, THIS IS WHAT YOU'RE GETTING.

THIS IS THE PERSON THAT YOU'RE GETTING.

THIS IS THE PERSON THAT'S HAD ALL THESE SERVICES, AND THERE SHOULD JUST BE A SYSTEM FOR THAT.

WE'RE TOO TECHNOLOGICALLY ADVANCED TO NOT HAVE THAT.

NOT CAMPUS, BUT IN GENERAL, WE ARE ADVANCED, BUT YET WE DON'T HAVE THAT.

I THINK SOMETIMES IT'S BECAUSE IT'S HUMAN CENTERED AND SOMETIMES IT DOESN'T EXIST WHEN IT COMES TO HUMANS.

>> I JUST ALSO WANT TO SAY TOO, JUST IN TERMS OF WHAT DO YOU WANT DISTRICT LEADERS TO KNOW AND SCHOOL LEADERS TO KNOW.

I DON'T THINK THERE WAS ANYBODY THAT I LISTENED TO TONIGHT WHERE I WAS LIKE, WELL, THAT'S WAY OFF.

WHAT ARE YOU DOING THAT FOR? I DO FEEL LIKE EVERYBODY KNOWS THEY KNOW THEIR BUILDINGS, THEY KNOW THEIR CULTURE,

[01:15:01]

THEY KNOW THEIR STRENGTHS AND THEIR PLACES WHERE THEY NEED TO FOCUS ON AND I FEEL LIKE WHAT I HEARD TONIGHT WAS ESPECIALLY IN THE AREAS OF GROWTH, THINGS THAT WE HAVE IN THE MOST BANG FOR THE BUCK.

SOMETHING THAT IS GOING TO FILL IN WHATEVER METAPHOR, LIFT ALL BOATS OR WHATEVER.

BUT I DIDN'T FEEL LIKE ANYBODY WAS OFF BASE FOR WHAT IT'S WORTH.

ON THAT, WE WILL END OUR EVENING.

WE'VE GOT IT ALL WRAPPED UP.

THANK YOU. THANKS TO THE BOARD FOR SPENDING THE TIME AND THANKS FOR OUR BUILDING LEADS.

THANKS FOR ALL OF YOU FOR STAYING SO LATE TOO.

WE APPRECIATE THAT. YEAH.

>> [APPLAUSE] HANDS IN, EVERYONE.

HANDS IN. OH, SERIOUSLY.

I THINK THE LAST THING THAT WE JUST HAVE IS JUST CHECKING OUR CALENDARS BEFORE WE GO.

JUST SOME LOGISTICS WITH GAIL, AND THEN WE'LL BE ON OUR WAY.

>> ANYTHING UP THERE THAT YOU'RE NOT FAMILIAR WITH OR YOUR PLANS HAVE CHANGED IN THE NEXT FEW WEEKS.

THIS WEEK IS A BUSY, BUSY WEEK.

>> DID WE FIGURE OUT TOMORROW?

>> GREAT.

>> TOMORROW, WELL, FIRST, I'M JUST LOOKING AT THE STAKEHOLDER MEETING THAT WE NEED ONE MORE PERSON.

I'M HAPPY TO GO IF YOU NEED ME TO GO BECAUSE I'M GOING TO BE HERE FOR THE NEXT ONE ANYWAYS, BUT IF SOMEBODY ELSE WANTED TO JUMP IN ON THAT, I CAN.

THE TBD ONE, 5:00-6:30.

>> 5:30-6:30.

>> 5:30-6:30.

THEN THE 7:00-8:00. I DON'T MIND.

I'M ALREADY GOING TO BE HERE.

CORRECT. YOU AND I ARE ON THE ONE ON THE 14TH FROM 7:00-8:00, AND THEN THERE'S AN OPEN ONE WITH TRACEY AT 5:30-6:30.

>> SO COREY IS GOING TO THE TUESDAY ONE AT 5:30.

>> SURE.

>> ARE GOOD WITH THAT, CONNIE.

>> YEAH.

>> THANK YOU VERY MUCH. ANYTHING ELSE THAT LOOKS LIKE WE NEED TO UPDATE?

>> WHO'S ALL DOING SITE VISITS TOMORROW? TRACEY AND I. ERICA, YOU TOO? OKAY.

>> YEAH.

>> COOL.

>> MEET HERE AT ZAC TO START.

>> START. WE'RE NOT GOING TO HLC FIRST. IS THAT ON THERE?

>> YOU'RE RIGHT. I'M SORRY. HLC FIRST.

>> SO MEET AT HLC AT 11:00?

>> YES.

>> OKAY.

>> I'M COMING. I DID JUST GET A MEETING SCHEDULED FROM NOON, 12:00-12:30, THAT I HAVE TO, WHICH IS OUR WALKING TIME, OUR DRIVING TIME.

THAT'S MY ONLY THING, BUT I'LL BE THERE.

>> SO TRACEY, COREY, AND ERICA.

>> YEAH.

>> THANK YOU.
