ONE OF THEM KARINA COOPER'S HERE TODAY. AND SHE ACTUALLY NOT ONLY WAS THE STATE CHAMPION, BUT SET THE MEET RECORD WITH THE JUMP OF 13FT, 2 INCHES IN THE POLE VAULT. AND THAT'S THIS FOR A STATE MEET RECORD, WHICH IS PRETTY TREMENDOUS [APPLAUSE].

SO GIVE IT UP FOR KARINA COOPER. AND THEN IF YOU WANT TO COME ON UP HERE I THINK THEY HAVE SOMETHING FOR YOU.

WE HAD TWO OTHER STUDENTS AS WELL; CHASE MCGEE AND CO HEN BUTLER, WHO ALSO WON STATE TITLES AS WELL AT THAT MEET.

SO IT WAS A PRETTY AWESOME MEET FOR FOR CAMAS.

MY NAME IS VICTOR TRAN, A HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATE FROM CAMAS HIGH SCHOOL [APPLAUSE].

SO THIS IS OUR SALT, IT STANDS FOR A STUDENT ATHLETE LEADERSHIP TEAM.

SO WHAT IS A SALT TEAM? BASICALLY, IT'S OUR STUDENT ATHLETES AT CAMAS HIGH SCHOOL.

OUR COACHES PICKED OUT A COUPLE OF OUR ATHLETES TO BASICALLY TALK ABOUT OUR OUR MOTTO.

BASICALLY, WHAT WE WANTED TO DO IS CHANGE IT A LITTLE BIT, REFRESH IT.

WE HAD THIS ACRONYM HEART WAY BEFORE I WAS IN HIGH SCHOOL, AND WE JUST WANTED TO REFRESH IT AND BRING IT BACK TO LIFE.

WHY IS THIS WORK IMPORTANT? WHILE OUR ATHLETES ARE LEADERS IN OUR COMMUNITY, YOU KNOW WE ARE KIND OF JUST THE INSPIRATION TO THE YOUTH I WOULD LIKE TO SAY. YOU KNOW, KARINA COOPER, OUR STATE CHAMPION.

I MEAN, A LOT OF GIRLS ARE GOING TO LOOK UP TO HER.

SO THAT'S VERY IMPORTANT. AND WE JUST WANT TO HAVE A VOICE IN OUR PROGRAMS AND BASICALLY JUST CREATE YOU KNOW, ROLE MODELS TO HELP OUR ATHLETES TO DO THE CAMAS WAY.

WHY IS THIS WORK IMPORTANT? WELL, WITH OUR SCHOOL DISTRICT HAVING OUR PROFILE GRADUATE WE WANTED TO, LIKE, FIND A WAY TO CONNECT WITH THIS BECAUSE WE KNOW, YOU KNOW, AFTER HIGH SCHOOL, OUR GOAL IS TO GRADUATE, AND YOU WANT TO BE A DIFFERENT PERSON FROM WALKING IN TO FRESHMAN TO WALKING ACROSS THE STAGE AS A SENIOR.

SO FOR THE FIRST ONE; BEING AN EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATOR WE WANT TO PROFESSIONALLY COMMUNICATE WITH OUR PEERS AND COACHES. SO BY TALKING TO A COACH LIKE COACH MATHIESON, YOU KNOW, I GOT TO COME IN A WAY WHERE,

A LOT OF THE TIMES OUR COACH SAY THIS LIKE, YOU KNOW, YOU WORK DAY IN AND DAY OUT FOR FOOTBALL, IT'S GOING TO LOOK DIFFERENT THAN BOWLERS, RIGHT? LIKE, OUR SCHEDULES ARE DIFFERENT, BUT WE DO WHAT'S BEST FOR OURSELVES.

AND AT THE END OF THE DAY, TO GET WHAT YOU WANT, YOU GOT TO WORK FOR IT.

AND THEN NUMBER FIVE; CRITICAL THINKER. SPORTS ARE THE BIGGEST MIND GAMES, YOU KNOW, BEING MATHIESON AGAIN, HE'S HIS OFFENSE IS YOU KNOW, HE'S GOT A LOT OF CRITICAL THINKING LIKE A LOT OF PLANNING GOES INTO IT.

AND WITH LIKE WITH SCHOOL TOO, I KNOW FOR ANATOMY I HAD TO STUDY A LOT.

I HAD TO DO LIKE A LOT OF KAHOOTS FIND WAYS TO, YOU KNOW, REMEMBER THE STUFF.

AND WHEN THERE'S TEST TIME, YOU KNOW, FIND A WAY TO GET IT DONE.

SO WHAT DID WE DO? WE, YOU KNOW, HAD OUR MEETINGS EVERY WEDNESDAY EARLY RELEASES WE WORKED, YOU KNOW, TO REFRESH OUR MODEL. AND OBVIOUSLY WE WANT TO IMPROVE IT, YOU KNOW, TO HELP ENGAGE, LIKE, MORE WITH US IN OUR COMMUNITY AND OUR SCHOOL.

AND WE JUST WANTED TO BRING IT BACK TO LIFE, I GUESS, TO OUR TEAMS AND SCHOOL ATHLETICS.

SO WE DECIDED THAT OUR OLD ONE WAS HONOR, EXCELLENCE, ACCOUNTABILITY, RESPECT AND TRUST AND WE JUST NEED A LITTLE REFRESH. AND SO WITH OUR SESSIONS, WE TALKED IT OVER, WE WANTED TO MAKE A COUPLE CHANGES, AND WE WANTED TO MAKE THE CHANGE THAT WE KNEW WOULD HELP US AS STUDENTS AND AS A COMMUNITY.

SO WE HAD THE OUR THREE NEW ONES OUR HUMILITY, RESILIENCE AND TRADITION.

FOR THE FIRST ONE, YOU KNOW, YOU WANT TO BE HUMBLE.

YOU KNOW, WINNING GAMES WITH CLASS IS PROBABLY THE BEST THING YOU KNOW AN ATHLETE CAN DO.

AND WHAT RESILIENCE. IT'S A WAY TO, YOU KNOW, WHAT CAN WE DO WHEN WE WHEN WE FACE THESE CHALLENGES? HOW DO WE LOOK LIKE? HOW DO WE ACT? WHAT'S OUR, YOU KNOW, MINDSET? AND TRADITION I FEEL LIKE THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT ONE BECAUSE, YOU KNOW, WE TAKE A LOT OF PRIDE AND HONOR WITH WITH WEARING THE C ACROSS OUR CHEST AND WE WE PLAY FOR THOSE THAT PLAYED BEFORE US. WE PLAY FOR OUR FAMILIES, OUR LOVED ONES, OUR TEACHERS, OUR SCHOOL BOARD, OUR COACHES, LIKE TRADITION, HAS ALWAYS BEEN A KEY PART OF CAMAS.

AND PLANS FOR NEXT FOR WHAT'S NEXT IS WE WANT THIS CLUB TO OBVIOUSLY CONTINUE ON IN OUR COMMUNITY, IN OUR SCHOOL. AND SO, YOU KNOW, WE HAVE SALT TALKS IN OUR THEATER ROOM.

AND THIS SECOND WEEK OF THE SEASON, JUST BASICALLY RUNNING IT DOWN, YOU KNOW, HOW IT'S LOOKING FOR US.

WHO'S THE, YOU KNOW, SALT, YOU KNOW, LEADERS I GUESS.

AND BASICALLY COACHES WILL CHOOSE OR PLAYERS WILL CHOOSE THE NEXT ONCOMING ATHLETE.

AND THEN AND OBVIOUSLY OUR HEART SHIRT. WE WANT THIS SHIRT TO BE, I GUESS, LIKE A PRIZE, SOMETHING SPECIAL.

YOU KNOW, WE WANT IT TO, YOU KNOW, PASS ON TO THOSE WHO ARE SHOWING, YOU KNOW, THE HEART.

AND THEN OBVIOUSLY BRINGING IT AROUND THE SCHOOL.

WE WANT THIS TO BE A MESSAGE THAT IS HEARD, THAT IS SEEN, AND ULTIMATELY, THAT IS, YOU KNOW, WHAT IT'S DOING. I KNOW WITH THE YOUTH, LIKE, WE WANT THAT MOTTO, RIGHT, TO BE COMING IN WHEN THEY'RE COMING FRESHMAN.

WE WANT THIS MODEL TO BE, YOU KNOW, RIGHT THERE FOR THEM.

AND BASICALLY THE ULTIMATE GOAL IS JUST TO MAKE SURE OUR STUDENTS AND KIDS ARE HAVING THE BEST EXPERIENCE BY PLAYING SPORTS.

I MEAN, BECAUSE, YOU KNOW, WITH ATHLETES, ATHLETES, WE CAN ALWAYS IMPROVE, IN STUDENTS WE CAN ALWAYS IMPROVE.

SO BY HAVING, YOU KNOW, THOSE WE BECAUSE IT'S GOING TO LOOK DIFFERENT FROM FOOTBALL AND TRACK LIKE OUR OUR LIVES ARE DIFFERENT, OUR TEAMS ARE DIFFERENT, OUR SCHEDULES ARE DIFFERENT. I KNOW WHAT SWIMMING THEY WAKE UP BY 5 A.M.

TO GO TO PRACTICE AND TRACK. WE HAVE PRACTICE AFTER SCHOOL.

SO, YOU KNOW, YOU SEE THE DIFFERENT THINGS, THEIR PERSPECTIVES AND WHAT THEY DEAL WITH.

AND SO AND ULTIMATELY RIGHT. LIKE WE WANT THE BEST EXPERIENCE FOR OUR STUDENTS.

AND SOME, LIKE A GYMNAST MIGHT LIKE THEY'RE ALWAYS OFF CAMAS, RIGHT? THEY'RE IN A CLUB AND STUFF AND THEN BASKETBALL PROGRAM AND A WRESTLING PROGRAM, THEY'RE LIKE ON THE CAMAS ALL THE TIME.

AND SWIMMING HAPPENS BEFORE ANY OF US EVER GET UP.

AND SO TO TO FIND A WAY TO UNIFY THE ATHLETES, RIGHT.

THE EXPERIENCE WILL BE DIFFERENT FOR SOFTBALL OR FROM A BOWLER TO A TENNIS PLAYER.

BUT WHAT IS THAT? I ALWAYS THINK ABOUT COLLEGE AND IF YOU WATCH COLLEGE SPORTS, THEY HAVE THESE MANNEQUINS WITH ALL THE COOL UNIFORMS ON AND YOU'RE LIKE, IT'S KIND OF LIKE A HOLLOW DEAL, RIGHT? LIKE, THERE'S NO SOUL IN THAT.

AND YOU GO, WHAT CAN WE DO TO UNIFY THE STUDENT ATHLETES AND TO HAVE A COMMON THEME AND A COMMON MESSAGE? SO EVEN THOUGH YOU'RE A BOWLER AND EVEN THOUGH YOU'RE A WRESTLER, LIKE, DO YOU STILL LEAVE BOWLING AND WRESTLING WITH SOME COMMON TRAITS FROM THAT STANDPOINT. AND THEN IF IF YOU'RE A MULTI-SPORT ATHLETE, WHICH WE WOULD LOVE TO HAVE, LIKE VIC WAS INVOLVED IN FOOTBALL AND THEN INVOLVED IN TRACK

AND FIELD. WILL HE GET THE SAME MESSAGE MAYBE IN A DIFFERENT WAY FROM THOSE COACHES AND PROGRAMS? BUT YET WHEN THEY LEAVE HIGH SCHOOL, AS VIC SAID, WE WANT TO BE BETTER WHEN WE LEAVE THAN WHEN WE ENTERED.

AND SO CAN WE BE INTENTIONAL ABOUT THAT. AND I THINK AS, AS COACHES SPECIFICALLY FOR ME, LIKE WE ALL HAVE OUR CULTURE WITHIN OUR PROGRAM, WE DO DIFFERENT THINGS, BUT WE REALLY NEED TO BE INTENTIONAL ABOUT IT.

AND SO WHAT WE DID WAS WE REACHED OUT TO ALL OUR COACHES AND SAID, HEY SEND US ONE, TWO, THREE KIDS, ANY GRADE LEVEL THAT WOULD BE INTERESTED IN EDUCATING US ON WHAT THEIR EXPERIENCE WAS.

AND SO THIS YEAR, WITH PEOPLE LIKE VIC AND KARINA, YOU WERE INVOLVED TOO AS WELL, RIGHT? KARINA WAS INVOLVED. AND WE HAD A HEAVY DOSE OF SENIORS, BUT IT WAS REALLY MR. BARANOWSKI AND I TAKING INFORMATION FROM THEM, LIKE, JUST, DO YOU GUYS KNOW WHAT HEART IS? LIKE IT'S BEEN AROUND AND IT'S COOL THAT IT'S ON A WALL OR ON A T SHIRT, BUT DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT IT MEANS? LIKE, I HADN'T APPLIED IT VERY WELL EVEN WITHIN MY PROGRAM.

SO IT WAS LIKE, OKAY, HOW DO WE REBRAND IT AND MAKE IT IMPORTANT FOR KIDS? BUT THEN THE KIDS CAN EDUCATE THE COACHES ON IT, AND THEN WE CAN GO BACK TO OUR PROGRAMS WITH WHAT THE KIDS ARE GETTING OUT OF IT.

RIGHT. AND SO WHEN I LOOK AT THOSE WORDS AND GO, HUMILITY AND RESILIENCE, WELL, THEN I CAN TAKE IT BACK AS A COACH TO MY PROGRAM WITH MY OWN STYLE. BUT I CAN TALK TO THOSE THINGS AND I CAN EMPOWER KIDS ON THOSE THINGS.

AND SO WHAT WE WANT TO BE ABLE TO DO THEN, IS HAVE IT ROLL OVER EACH YEAR AND THEN MEET MONTHLY.

AND IT REALLY IS SOMETHING THAT SHOULD BE KID DRIVEN AND NOT, YOU KNOW, IT WAS MR. BARANOWSKI THAT SAID, HEY, WE NEED TO DO THIS, BUT IT SHOULDN'T BE US DRIVEN.

IT SHOULD BE KID DRIVEN WITH PEOPLE LIKE VIC. AND THEY DID AN UNBELIEVABLE JOB OF SETTING THE DECK FOR NEXT YEAR'S GROUP TO THEN COME IN AND GO, OKAY, THIS IS HOW WE WANT TO UNIFY THINGS. IT SHOULDN'T JUST BE A SLOGAN, BUT SHOULD WE HAVE SOME BRANDING ON THE WALLS SO PEOPLE LIKE, HEY, WHAT'S THAT? AND YOU GO, YEAH, SHOULD WE CELEBRATE? AND GOD BLESS THE STATE CHAMPIONS. AND NOW WE'RE CELEBRATING THOSE THINGS RATHER THAN JUST THE STUFF THAT'S ALWAYS CELEBRATED ON THE FRONT OF THE PAPER ON THE PAPER.

I GOT TO A PART OF THIS WAS A ROLE AS A PARENT TOO, BUT I GOT TO CHAPERON THE LIBERTY MIDDLE SCHOOL BAND AT THE JUNIOR ROSE PARADE.

I GOT TO SAY THAT I CARRIED THE BANNER PRETTY WELL.

BUT AND THEY, THEY GOT A THEY GOT A GOLD MEDAL RECOGNITION OUT OF THAT.

SO CONGRATULATIONS TO THE LIBERTY MIDDLE SCHOOL MARCHING BAND FOR THAT.

RIGHT. SO AND THEN WE JOHN AND MATTHEW AND I MET TO KIND OF BRAINSTORM A LITTLE BIT ABOUT AN ARTS ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEETING. WE WANT TO KIND OF KIND OF RUMINATE ON THAT A LITTLE BIT MORE OVER THE SUMMER, BUT MIGHT ADD IT TO OUR AUGUST PLANNING SESSION.

AND THEN I KNOW I WON'T TALK TOO MUCH ABOUT IT, BECAUSE I THINK JOHN HAD SOMETHING IN HIS REPORT ABOUT IT.

BUT JOHN AND I GOT WERE INVITED TO AN EDUCATION ROUNDTABLE WITH SENATOR CORTEZ AND ACTUALLY SENATE EDUCATION CHAIR SENATOR WELLMAN SHOWED UP TO THE MEETING, ZOOMED INTO THE MEETING AS WELL.

AND WE GOT TO HEAR A LITTLE BIT MORE KIND OF IN PERSON ABOUT THE SESSION RECAP.

WE GOT TO ASK A LOT OF QUESTIONS AND KIND OF TALK ABOUT THINGS THAT ARE IMPACTING CLARK COUNTY AND, AND MORE SPECIFICALLY CAMAS. SO IT WAS A GREAT IT WAS A GREAT DIALOG TO HAVE.

WE TALKED ABOUT PROJECTS. THE CAPSTONE PROJECTS FOR HAYES WERE ALREADY DONE, I THINK, BY THE PRIOR MEETING BUT STILL IN MY MIND.

I DID DO ONE ROUND. YOU DID A ROUND OF THE SENIOR AWARDS AT CHS.

ALSO THE DISCOVERY HIGH SCHOOL PROJECTS THAT WAS GREAT TO SEE.

IT'S ALWAYS GOOD TO RECOGNIZE ALL THE STUDENTS, THE MENTORS, THE STAFF THAT DID ALL THE ADVISING, THE VOLUNTEERS THAT CAME IN TO DO ALL THE JUDGING.

AND I WOULD PROBABLY SAY OUR BIGGEST COMPETITOR RIGHT NOW IS PROBABLY HOMESCHOOLING AND IT'S BEEN THAT WAY SINCE SINCE COVID.

AND IT REALLY HASN'T CHANGED AS QUICKLY AS WE HOPED.

HOME SCHOOL ENROLLMENT IN THE STATE OF WASHINGTON IS UP 42%.

I'M NOT QUITE SURE WHAT IT IS NATIONALLY, BUT MY GUESS IS THAT IT'S RATHER ON PAR.

OUR ENROLLMENT IN CAMAS WAS 1% DOWN. SO LIKE I SAID EARLIER, 71 STUDENTS.

WE ARE PURCHASING A $150,000 REPLACEMENT BUS FOR THE ONE THAT GOT HIT BY THE CAR.

OUR OSPI BUDGET TOOLS WERE RELEASED MAY 31ST, SO IT WAS A LITTLE LATER THAN WE'RE USED TO, PART OF THAT WAS THE EXTENDED SESSION. AND ALSO NEW GOVERNOR KIND OF TOOK HIS TIME WITH MAKING SURE THAT THE BUDGET WAS APPROVED.

I THINK HE TOOK EVERY DAY THAT HE HAD COMING TO HIM.

SO THAT WAS GOOD. AND THEN WE'RE HERE JUNE 23RD FOR OUR PRELIMINARY BUDGET PRESENTATION.

IT WILL BE POSTED BY JULY 10TH. AND THEN AS WE GET CLOSER TO AUGUST, WE'LL MAKE SURE THAT WE HAVE EVERYTHING POSTED TWO WEEKS PRIOR TO THE HEARING.

AND THEN AUGUST 25TH WILL BE THE HEARING FOR THE BUDGET FOR NEXT YEAR.

SO IN OTHER WORDS SALARY SALARY STAYS THE SAME EXCEPT FOR STEP GROWTH BECAUSE THOSE HAVE TO BE THERE.

SO THAT'S ALL OF THIS IS BASED ON BASICALLY NO INCREASE IN SALARIES AS WE MOVE INTO NEXT YEAR.

OBVIOUSLY OUTCOMES, OUTCOMES AND NEGOTIATIONS CAN CHANGE THAT.

IT DOES INCLUDE A 10% TARGET IN OUR CUTS SO THAT WAS IN THERE.

HI, MY NAME IS CAL JIRAS I'M GOING INTO SEVENTH GRADE AT LIBERTY MIDDLE SCHOOL, AND UP UNTIL LAST MONTH I WAS A MEMBER OF THE LIBERTY CROSS COUNTRY TEAM.

I BROUGHT SOME PEOPLE THAT ARE BEING AFFECTED BY THE SAME THING.

I AM, NOT HAVING CROSS COUNTRY. ONE OF MY FAVORITE PARTS OF MOVING TO MIDDLE SCHOOL WAS COMPETING IN CROSS COUNTRY, AND RECENTLY THAT WAS TAKEN AWAY FROM ME BY THIS BOARD.

I WANTED TO SPEAK TODAY TO HELP YOU UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU ARE TAKING AWAY FROM US.

I ENJOYED CROSS COUNTRY SO MUCH LAST YEAR AND LOVE COMPETING WITH OTHER KIDS, BUT FOR ME IT WASN'T JUST FUN I ALSO REALIZED THAT I HAVE NATURAL TALENT.

I HAD A MILE TIME OF 551 AND SET MULTIPLE RECORDS THIS SEASON.

I EVEN BROKE THE SCHOOL RECORD AT SKYRIDGE EVEN THOUGH I RUN FOR LIBERTY.

I ALSO HOLD THE RECORD FOR THE FASTEST TIME AS THE LIBERTY SIXTH GRADER IN THE 1.5 MILE RACE.

AT ONE POINT LAST SEASON, I WAS RANKED NUMBER ONE IN THE STATE OF WASHINGTON AT THE 2,500 METER RACE AND TOP 30 IN THE COUNTRY.

THIS PAST SEASON HELPED ME SEE A FUTURE IN THIS SPORT, IN HIGH SCHOOL AND IN COLLEGE.

WITHOUT HAVING REGULAR COMPETITION I FEAR I MAY BE BEHIND OTHER RUNNERS WHEN I GET TO HIGH SCHOOL.

ONE OF THE UNIQUE THINGS ABOUT THE SPORT IS THAT IT SPANS GRADE LEVEL IT BUILDS COMMUNITY AND BONDS CLASSES TOGETHER.

I HAD EIGHTH GRADERS TO LOOK UP TO AND THEY PUSHED ME TO BE IN MY BEST IN EVERY WAY.

CROSS COUNTRY IS ONE OF THE FEW NO CUT SPORTS AT THIS SCHOOL.

IT OFFERS A CHANCE FOR EVERYONE TO GET INVOLVED, WHETHER IT'S FOR FUN OR FOR SERIOUS COMPETITION.

MY FRIEND CALVIN, WHO HAS ASTHMA, JOINED THE TEAM LAST YEAR JUST BECAUSE I ASKED HIM TO.

HIS FIRST RACE, HE THREW UP AND BY THE END OF THE SEASON HE WAS ONE OF THE BEST RUNNERS ON THE TEAM.

HE IMPROVED EACH RACE, WORKED HARD AND OVERCAME OBSTACLES.

I WAS AMAZED AT HOW MUCH MY FRIEND ACCOMPLISHED.

THIS IS JUST ONE EXAMPLE OF HOW CROSS COUNTRY CAN PUSH YOU AND BUILD YOUR CONFIDENCE.

I ABSOLUTELY SEE FUTURE SEE A FUTURE FOR ME RUNNING IN COLLEGE.

I WAS HEARTBROKEN WHEN I HEARD THAT BOYS CROSS COUNTRY WAS CUT.

NOW WE ARE LOOKING FOR EXPENSIVE CLUB ALTERNATIVES, SO THAT MY DREAMS OF RUNNING IN COLLEGE CAN STILL BE ACCOMPLISHED.

I ASKED YOU TODAY TO PLEASE RECONSIDER. MY LITTLE BROTHER WATCHED ME RUN THE SEASON AND WAS SO EXCITED IN TWO YEARS TO BE ON MY SAME TEAM AND COMPETE ALONGSIDE ME.

I KNOW THERE ARE A LOT OF DIFFICULT DECISIONS TO BE MADE WITH BUDGETS, BUT THERE IS NO FREE ALTERNATIVE TO RACE AT THE LEVEL THAT I NEED.

SOME OF THE LESSONS THAT I LEARNED FROM MY CROSS-COUNTRY SEASON WERE THAT NOT EVERYTHING IS GOING TO BE EASY, THAT YOU HAVE TO FIGHT TO GET WHAT YOU WANT. AND I WANT TO SHOW THAT I'M FIGHTING FOR CROSS-COUNTRY TO COME BACK. THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME [APPLAUSE].

I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO MY THIRD YEAR IN WORKING IN WORKING IN CAMAS WITH MY AMAZING STUDENTS AT WOODBURN.

I HAVE REALLY TREMENDOUSLY TALENTED, WONDERFUL STUDENTS WHO HAVE MADE AMAZING GROWTH THIS LAST, THESE LAST TWO YEARS, TWO YEARS. I WAS SO EXCITED TO SEND THEM ON TO A WONDERFUL CHORAL AND INSTRUMENTAL PROGRAM AT LIBERTY.

MY STUDENTS WERE DEVASTATED AT THE LOSS OF THEIR LIBERTY CHOIR TEACHER.

MANY STUDENTS WHO HAVE SAID THEY WERE SIGNING UP FOR CHOIR IN APRIL HAVE CHANGED THEIR MIND BY JUNE.

SOME OF MY MOST AMAZING SINGERS ARE NOT SIGNING UP FOR CHOIR.

A FEW DECIDED TO TAKE BAND INSTEAD, WHICH IS GREAT, BUT DAMAGE HAS BEEN DONE TO THE LIBERTY MUSIC PROGRAM, ESPECIALLY THE CHOIR PROGRAM. IT TAKES TIME TO BUILD A MUSIC PROGRAM.

IT TAKES MORE TIME TO BUILD A RELATIONSHIP WITH KIDS WHERE THEY FEEL COMFORTABLE AND CONFIDENT USING THEIR VOICE.

YOU HAVE TO HAVE A VERY SAFE AND WELCOMING ENVIRONMENT WITH SOMEONE WHO CAN DEMONSTRATE VOCAL TECHNIQUE AT A HIGH LEVEL,

TO REALLY INSPIRE THEM TO TAKE THOSE RISKS WITH THEIR VERY PERSONAL VOICE.

CHOIR TEACHES STUDENTS TO BE PART TO BE PROUD OF THEIR VOICE.

SINGING AND MAKING A SOUND THEY ARE PROUD OF.

GIVES THEM THE CONFIDENCE TO SHOW UP AS THEY ARE IN OTHER LEARNING SPACES AND IN LIFE.

IN DRAMA, WHO WILL TEACH THE MUSICAL FOR LIBERTY? THIS WOULD BE A GREAT QUESTION FOR OUR ADMINISTRATIVE POINT PERSON.

I WAS INFORMED DURING THE LAST WEEK OF SCHOOL THAT WE DO NOT HAVE ANY ONE ADMINISTRATIVE PERSON TO GO TO REGARDING THE ARTS K-12.

VERTICAL SUPPORT IS ESSENTIAL FOR SUPPORTING THIS KIND OF ARTICULATION THROUGHOUT OUR ARTS PROGRAMS. I ALSO WORK HARD TO PREPARE MY STUDENTS WITH A FOUNDATION IN JAZZ.

THE JAZZ GROUPS ARE MUSIC'S A TEAM, NOT B TEAM NOT C TEAM, A TEAM.

THEY ARE THE GROUPS THAT GET KIDS MOST EXCITED AND MOTIVATED TO PRACTICE AND WORK HARD TO IMPROVE.

JAZZ GROUPS PROVIDE A GOAL TO WORK FOR AND ARE WHERE OUR MUSICAL LEADERS ARE BORN AND DEVELOPED.

I COORDINATED THE MUSIC IN OUR SCHOOL'S MONTH CELEBRATION CONCERT THAT WAS BY KIDS FOR KIDS THIS LAST MARCH, IT WAS THE JAZZ BAND THAT GOT THE KIDS REALLY MOVING IN THEIR SEATS.

EACH PIECE OF OUR PROGRAM ARE NOT JUST A CLASS IT IS PART OF THE FABRIC THAT GETS WOVEN TOGETHER TO CREATE REMARKABLE ARTS EXPERIENCES.

AFTER THE DAMAGE THAT HAS BEEN DONE THIS YEAR, WITH CUTS BEING EXACTED IN THE WAY THEY WERE, SOME REPAIR NEEDS TO HAPPEN THROUGH MORE CARE OF OUR ARTS DEPARTMENT.

WE NEED TO HAVE A VISION FOR THE FUTURE OF OUR ARTS PROGRAMS AND ADMINISTRATIVE AND ADMINISTRATION DEDICATED TO SUPPORTING OUR PROGRAMS TO BE MORE EFFECTIVE AT DOING MORE WITH LESS. I AM CONCERNED THAT MORE CUTS WILL HAPPEN WHILE WE ARE TRYING TO REBUILD, BECAUSE OF LOW NUMBERS CAUSED BY MOVEMENTS RESULTING FROM THE CUTS.

IT IS VITAL THAT WE SUPPORT AND NURTURE THE PROGRAMS WE HAVE THROUGH THIS TIME.

A 20% CUT IN MIDDLE SCHOOL MUSIC IS UNACCEPTABLE AND A CORRECTION NEEDS TO BE MADE.

THIS SHOULD INCLUDE A BRINGING BACK OF THE JAZZ PROGRAM.

I HOPE TO SEE MORE CARE AND STEWARDSHIP OF OUR ARTS PROGRAM IN THE FUTURE.

OUR ELEMENTARY STUDENTS DESERVE TO HAVE THEIR FULL 60 MINUTES OF MUSIC PER WEEK.

I HOPE FULFILLING THE PROMISE THAT WAS MADE TO BRING THOSE BENEFITS BACK WILL BE ON THE LIST AS WE CREATE OUR VISION FOR THRIVING ARTS PROGRAMS IN CAMAS.

ALSO, I DON'T KNOW WHICH APPROACH WILL BE THE BEST TO MAKE IT HAPPEN, BUT I DO HOPE WE DO FIND A WAY TO BRING THOSE JAZZ PROGRAMS BACK.

THEY ARE A VITAL PIECE OF OUR MUSICAL FABRIC AND ARE FOUNDATIONAL TO THE STRENGTH OF OUR PROGRAMS OVERALL.

SORRY. AS WE ALL KNOW, THE UPCOMING BUDGET CUTS THREATEN TO REMOVE JAZZ PROGRAMS ON THE MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL LEVEL.

THIS INCLUDES JAZZ BAND AND SKY SINGERS AT SKYRIDGE .

I SURVEYED 61 STUDENTS ON THEIR EXPERIENCES WITH THE JAZZ PROGRAMS AND THEIR THOUGHTS ON THEM GETTING REMOVED.

OF THOSE 61, 30 WERE NOT INVOLVED IN THE JAZZ PROGRAMS AND 31 WERE IN EITHER SKY SINGERS OR JAZZ BAND.

JAZZ THE STUDENTS IN JAZZ PROGRAMS STATED THAT THEY FOUND COMMUNITY THROUGH HAVING MUSIC.

ESPECIALLY SKY SINGERS, HAD A LOT TO SAY ABOUT THE FAMILY THEY FOUND THROUGH MUSIC AND PERFORMING WITH THEIR PEERS.

ONE RESPONSE I GOT FROM A HIGH SCHOOLER WHO WENT TO WHO WAS IN SKY SINGERS DURING MIDDLE SCHOOL, SAID THAT SHE STRUGGLED WITH HER MENTAL HEALTH BEFORE COMING TO SKYRIDGE , AND SKY SINGERS HELPED HER CRAWL OUT OF THAT HOLE AND OVERCOME HER MENTAL HEALTH STRUGGLES. I DON'T KNOW HOW MANY OF US ARE MOURNING PEOPLE I DON'T THINK MANY OF US ARE.

BUT MANY STUDENTS IN THE JAZZ PROGRAMS LOOKED FORWARD TO THEIR ZERO PERIOD REHEARSALS.

THE RESPONDERS, WHO WERE NOT IN JAZZ PROGRAMS ACKNOWLEDGED THAT JAZZ PROGRAMS ARE HIGHER LEVEL LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES FOR STUDENTS WHO ARE INTERESTED IN THAT, AND THEY THEY ALSO ENJOY THEIR PERFORMANCES. ONE RESPONDER SAID IN ONE RESPONDER SAID THAT WITHOUT THE JAZZ PROGRAMS, THERE WOULD BE A HOLE IN THE CONCERTS WHERE THEY ONCE WERE.

SEVERAL RESPONDERS WERE ALSO INTERESTED IN JOINING THE JAZZ PROGRAMS IN THE UPCOMING SCHOOL YEAR BEFORE IT WAS ANNOUNCED THAT THEY WOULD BE CUT.

A RESPONSE THAT REALLY CAUGHT MY EYE WAS ONE OF A STUDENT WHO WAS PRACTICING ON A NEW INSTRUMENT FOR SEVEN MONTHS TO TRY TO GET INTO JAZZ BAND.

A LOT OF THE RESPONDERS HAD FRIENDS OR FAMILY WHO WERE IN THESE JAZZ PROGRAMS, AND THEY WOULD BE DEVASTATED TO SEE THEIR FRIENDS AND FAMILY SO DEVASTATED TO LOSE THEIR MUSIC. I CANNOT STRESS ENOUGH HOW IMPORTANT MUSIC IS FOR THE CAMAS COMMUNITY.

WE KNOW THAT YOU'RE TRYING TO MANAGE THE DISTRICT'S BUDGET WITH THE UPCOMING SHORTFALLS, AND WE UNDERSTAND THAT.

BUT IF JAZZ BAND AND SKY SINGERS ARE TAKEN AWAY, ALL THE PEOPLE WHO FOUND COMMUNITY THROUGH JAZZ, THE PEOPLE WHO WANTED TO LEARN NEW THINGS, EVERYONE FIGHTING FOR SOMETHING SO IMPORTANT, IT WOULD BE IT WOULD BE FOR NOTHING.

THE DAMAGE WOULD BE IMMEASURABLE. BEFORE YOU CUT THESE PROGRAMS, THERE HAS TO BE ANOTHER WAY TO MANAGE THE BUDGET AND REVIVE SOMETHING THAT IS SO IMPORTANT TO SO MANY OF US.
