SO IT'S REALLY COOL TO GET TO SEE THOSE PROJECTS GET STARTED UP. FOR 7TH GRADERS, THEY HAVE THE NATIVE PLANT SALE, WHICH WAS A HUGE TURNOUT. FOR THEIR PROFIT, THEY MADE $1,878, DONATING $1,100 TO FRIENDS OF CLARK COUNTY, WHICH IS A FOUNDATION THAT HELPED BEAUTIFY. THE CLARK COUNTY AREA ALL OVER. ANOTHER ONE FOR SEVENTH GRADERS WAS HAVING A LOT OF SEVENTH GRADERS IN THE MARY POPPINS MUSICAL BECAUSE THIS YEAR WE HOSTED, WHICH IS A FIRST TIME FOR US, AND IT WAS AMAZING TO HAVE HAVING YOU FOUR OF THE LEADS WERE FROM ODYSSEY, AND THERE WERE SO MANY SEVENTH GRADERS THAT DID SO, SO WELL ON THAT. AND THEN FOR EIGHTH GRADE, WE'RE CURRENTLY DOING THE LEVEL UP PROJECT, WHICH IS HELPING US BUILD SOME FUNDAMENTALS FOR HIGH SCHOOL, AND THOSE ARE CENTERED AROUND TIME MANAGEMENT, MATERIAL MANAGEMENT, SELF-MANAGEMENT, RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT, AND STUDY MANAGEMENT, HAVING US BUILD UP. OUR RECOMMENDATION INCLUDED TWO MAJOR THINGS. THE FIRST ONE IS THE FUND BALANCE SUFFICIENCY. IDEALLY, WE WANT TO SEE 60 DAYS OF OPERATING EXPENDITURES AT YEAR END. WHAT THE FUND BALANCE SUFFICIENCY IS, IS IT TAKES YOUR ENDING RESERVE BALANCE OR THE TOTAL BALANCE AT YEAR END AND THEN COMPARES THAT TO YOUR EXPENDITURES. SO YOU CAN SEE HERE FROM 2021 THROUGH 2025, IT'S BEEN DECREASING AND THEN ENDING AT 21 DAYS OF OPERATING EXPENDITURES. SO THE CONCERN WITH THIS IS THAT THERE RUNS A RISK THAT THE DISTRICT ISN'T ABLE TO SUSTAIN OPERATIONS OR MEET OBLIGATIONS WHEN THERE ISN'T THAT CUSHION AT YEAR END. IDEALLY WE LIKE THIS TO TO BE ZERO OR GREATER THAN ONE PERSON OR GREATER THAN ZERO PERCENT A POSITIVE MEANING THAT YOUR REVENUES ARE EXCEEDING THE EXPENDITURES FOR THE YEAR HOWEVER YOU CAN SEE HERE THAT OVER THE YEARS THERE'S BEEN A GREATER GAP WHERE THE EXPENDITURES ARE EXCEEDING THE REVENUES FOR THE DISTRICT AND ESSENTIALLY WHAT THAT MEANS IS THAT YOUR REVENUES ARE NOT GOING TO BE ABLE TO COVER YOUR OPERATING EXPENDITURES. THERE'S A STUDENT AT GRASS VALLEY WHO'S GOING TO BE REALLY UPSET IF YOU DON'T DO THAT. AND I GOT A LOT, I COULD ALWAYS TELL THE SECONDARY COMMENTS, BECAUSE I GOT A LOT OF COMMENTS ABOUT THE VIBES IN THE LIBRARY. WE GIVE OFF COZY VIBES, WELCOMING VIBES, CHILL VIBES. THERE'S A LOT OF VIBES HAPPENING IN OUR SCHOOL LIBRARIES. WE KIND OF KNOW WHAT'S HAPPENING IN ALL OF THE SUBJECTS BECAUSE OUR COLLECTIONS ARE SUPPOSED TO BE SUPPORTING ALL OF THE SUBJECTS. THAT MAKES US A REALLY VALUABLE RESOURCE WHEN YOU'RE LOOKING AT THINGS LIKE PROFILE OF A GRADUATE. SO I THINK YOU SHOULD ASK US TO DO THINGS LIKE THAT MORE OFTEN. BUT IT DOES ALSO REQUIRE ADMINISTRATIVE TIME AT EVERY LEVEL. AND WHEN I TALK ABOUT LIBRARY ADMINISTRATIVE TIME, I DON'T MEAN TIME TO CHECK IN BOOKS OR SHELVE BOOKS OR EVEN CHOOSE BOOKS. I MEAN TIME TO WORK ON THINGS LIKE THIS OR MORE BIG PICTURE THINGS THAT CAN ACTUALLY AFFECT CHANGE AND REALLY IMPACT STUDENT LEARNING. I ALSO THINK WE HAVE ROOM TO IMPROVE IN PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT. WE HAVE NEW AASL STANDARDS. THOSE STANDARDS ARE EXPENSIVE. I PURCHASED MY OWN COPY. THAT'S AN AREA WHERE WE COULD USE SOME SUPPORT. I'VE NEVER BEEN IN A ROOM WITH ALL OF OUR SECONDARY LIBRARIANS AT ONCE. IT WOULD BE NICE IF THERE WAS TIME FOR THAT. AND I JUST WANT TO HIGHLIGHT THAT THERE'S REALLY NOT LIBRARIAN-SPECIFIC PD THAT HAPPENS IN CAMAS, WHICH THERE'S A GOOD REASON FOR THAT. THERE'S NOT THAT MANY OF US. BUT THAT MEANS WHEN I WANT PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT, I HAVE TO GO SOMEWHERE ELSE, WHICH MEANS THAT ONLY HAVING ONE DAY AS A PD DAY REALLY IMPACTS ME. AND I'VE BEEN ABLE TO FIND GRANTS AND THINGS TO OFFSET SOME OF THAT. AND CLINT'S BEEN VERY GENEROUS TO OFFSET SOME OF THAT. IT DOES IMPACT US IN A WAY THAT IT DOESN'T ALWAYS IMPACT CLASSROOM TEACHERS. OUR ELEMENTARY LIBRARIANS REALLY DO FEEL THE DECREASE IN HOURS. THEY'RE TEACHING ALL DAY, AND IN ONE HOUR, THAT'S OFTEN NOT ENOUGH TIME TO [01:30:01] GET ALL THE BOOKS CHECKED IN, MUCH LESS SHELVED. THERE'S ALSO NO TIME TO TRAIN OUR PARAPROFESSIONALS, WHICH WOULD BE REALLY NICE. AND WE DON'T CURRENTLY HAVE EQUITABLE ACCESS TO PROGRAMS ACROSS ALL OF OUR SCHOOLS. WE ALWAYS WANT EQUITABLE, SUSTAINABLE FUNDING FOR MATERIALS, SUPPLIES, AND PROGRAMMING. WE ARE IMPACTED BY INFLATION, AND I JUST WANT TO RECOGNIZE HOW MUCH TIME AND ENERGY GOES INTO FUNDRAISING, BECAUSE OUR RESULTS ARE ASTOUNDING, BUT THAT'S BECAUSE LIBRARIANS ARE DOING A LOT OF WORK. AND I HAVE SOME IDEAS FOR POLICIES THAT COULD PROBABLY BE BETTER. IT'S REALLY DISCORDANT WITH WHAT YOU NORMALLY DO. BUT IT'S ONLY BECAUSE THAT TEACHER HAD PREVIOUSLY LOOKED AT AND GRADED HER WORK AND FOUND THAT AI MADE A MISTAKE. WHEN CONCERNS BEGAN ARISING WITHIN THE FIRST FEW WEEKS OF SCHOOL, OUR ATTEMPTS TO PROACTIVELY COLLABORATE WERE MET WITH MORE DISMISSAL THAN MEANINGFUL PROBLEM SOLVING, INCLUDING FROM DISTRICT-LEVEL STAFF. OVER THE COURSE OF THIS YEAR, WE REPEATEDLY WARNED THE DISTRICT THAT OUR CHILD NEEDED MORE DIRECT SUPPORT IN ORDER TO REMAIN SAFE AND ACCESS HIS EDUCATION. INSTEAD OF RESPONDING PROACTIVELY, THE DISTRICT CONTINUED TO RELY ON REMOVAL, DOCUMENTATION OF ESCALATING BEHAVIORS, AND RESISTANCE TO INCREASING SUPPORT. THAT FAILURE TO RESPOND APPROPRIATELY LED TO PREVENTABLE ESCALATION. OUR CHILD CAME HOME WITH INJURIES CONNECTED TO SCHOOL INTERVENTION, INCLUDING INJURIES THAT WERE NOT FULLY DOCUMENTED OR EXPLAINED. ONCE WE WERE IDENTIFYING BRUISES IN DIFFERENT STAGES OF HEALING, THIS STOPPED BEING A ROUTINE SPECIAL EDUCATION CONCERN AND BECAME A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. IT ALSO FORCED US INTO THE DEVASTATING POSITION OF FILING A POLICE REPORT AND TRYING TO EXPLAIN BODILY SAFETY AND PERSONAL BOUNDARIES TO OUR NEURODIVERGENT CHILD. IN THE CONTEXT OF THE ADULTS WHO ARE SUPPOSED TO BE PROTECTING HIM. OUR CHILD HAS NOT FELT SAFE ENOUGH TO RETURN, AND MULTIPLE MENTAL HEALTH PROVIDERS HAVE ADVISED THAT HE NOT RETURN TO THE SAME ENVIRONMENT AND THAT WE ENSURE HIS SAFETY BEFORE ACCEPTING ANYTHING DIFFERENT.
